  • No. Everyone is welcome here. We often debate issues, have a wide range of backgrounds and respect each other’s opinions. Jumping in and attacking, trying to close down the conversation, was what elicited our responses.
As Wi said, we bend over backwards to help new or long term posters in their journey towards a better quality of life.
    Respect is the key. PVE

PVE, jumping in attacking as you put it was my last post as I take strong exception to what Apricot applied. I tried to avoid getting into an argument by asking that we don’t talk about politics at all. These are tetchy times and I genuinely believe we should not go near the subject on this forum. Obviously in a minority of one so I’ll get my coat!

    Everyone’s entitled to an opinion…

Hi ! There … I am a newbee….tried all kinds of diets nothing seems really sustainable and long lasting.
Need something which is practical and can actually work in the long run. Fully motivated to lost 20-25 kgs which I have put on in the last three years ( thanks to my new job where I am sitting and stressing !!)
Have started an amazing spin class thrice a week – absolutely fantabulous and morning yoga sessions…..looking forward to this 5/2 plan now for quick results …..have to get into my old dress by dec 31st 2016….HERE I GO ..

    [post removed]

I for one appreciate the chat in this forum . We have all become really good friends . I love to talk about everything . I couldn’t have got through he last few weeks without the support of all the lovely people on this thread .
I have had ice cream today . Jim hasn’t been eating much and I went shopping for some things that would tempt him . Oh dear some ice cream dropped into my basket lol . Not a problem really as I will burn it off with all the running about I am doing at the moment πŸ™‚

    Love you all

    Wee xxx

    Hi Wings
I’m in the middle of a tv grilling of our two political leaders (election here on Sat), so I’ll be brief, sorry.
Start with 5:2 101….read the book, set your goal, learn to fast 2 days a week. Then learn to manage your non fast days. Exercise will follow as sure as the sun rises every day. The lighter you getter, the better you feel, the more you move.
    Concentrate on fasting first.
All the best. Keep us paged.
    Cheers PVE

Hi Wings and welcome. I can’t add to Purples advice – she knows her stuff – apart from remember to drink lots of water. Sometimes when you think you are really hungry, a big drink will change all that. Have it plain or sparkly, chilled or not, lemon added, whatever. And if you get headaches, add some salt to your diet. And remember, fasting gets easier the longer you do it. You will get into that dress!

Purple I have been watching the pollies on the ABC tonight too, just turned on the iPad and got a surprise to read all the recent posts! I have always found Apricots posts to be very interesting and thoughtful. Pity Nothing was so sensitive. Maybe the very reason Jojo’s thread is so popular is because there is always something interesting being said. Imagine if we only talked about fasting, we would all drop away with boredom. And then there would be no experienced fasters left around to advise newbies!!

I had a successful fast today, undid the Polish food from Saturday night I think! Kept busy and out of the kitchen all day – so much easier. I have always ‘batch’ cooked and sometimes find it even more convenient now we are empty nesters. I had some low cal tasty soup and it was still easy to serve non-fasting husband with a lovely home made chicken, mushroom and leek pie, all from the depths of the freezer.

Hi Wiwi, great to hear from you. Likewise Wee – I hope you enjoyed the icecream!
    Cheers all x

    Good Morning,
Delicious black coffee to start the day here!
Wings you are very welcome to ride this journey together with us. As you realized, we talk about everything. Politics, recipes, ancestry, stock tips, jokes, sports, traveling, wine, exercising, gardening, fashion, books, tv shows, pains and aches … And I am glad.
I started being part of the group in January of 2015. There are tons of groups out there, I chose this one, I like this one and I am staying here .
Slim my husband told me another day that I was the one snoring lol – extra fermented grape juice.
Goal of the week it’s not do drink “juice”! Next week for 4th July πŸ’‹

    Happy day to you all.
    πŸ’–

    Hi Nama
Me too. Finished a fast with some homemade veg soup…prepared during the weekend and travelled with us on holidays. ☺
Thanks for reminding me, Health! Slimn, Mr P used to keep me awake for hours, every night, for years, snoring like a train. (He says I snored too, but it didn’t keep him awake πŸ˜‰). Since losing weight, both of us have virtually stopped snoring! A brilliant side benefit to fasting. ..a good night’s sleep for all!!! P 😊
    (G’day Wee and Wi 😊😊)

    Afternoon all,

Thanks to everyone who supported the freedom we have on this thread to talk about anything and everyone and occasionally disagree strongly with each other without animosity.

    NTLBMF,

I’m not sure why you picked on Apricot as hers was the third comment regarding the incidents of racial abuse since the referendum result. I’ve read her post and her point seems to be that she doesn’t understand racism or how people can feel that way. She does not accuse anyone of anything.
Politics is part of our lives and the 75% of the UK electorate that voted have participated in making a decision that affects the future of everyone who lives in the UK along with British citizens overseas, the European community and many other countries. Of course we are going to discuss it and no-one new or not to this thread has the right to tell anyone what they can or cannot discuss.

I went out to buy a new handbag and came home with two! They were both 50% off in a sale. One of my bags broke when I was in Rome and cannot be repaired and another is falling apart with age so is being retired πŸ˜‰

One is navy blue leather and suede and will go perfectly with my blue suede shoes 😎 The other is black and will go with all of my many pairs of black shoes and sandals………

How lovely, I suppose one of them will be perfect for Wimbledon tomorrow Amazon!
Can’t wait for RT’s comments about ‘blue suede shoes’ – Elvis is bound to be mentioned, then Weemam will jump in, being such an Elvis fan!

Hello I have just joined this thread. I have a goal of 28 lb to lose and I am keen to try to lose 2lb a week. I am on day 1! I wanted to ask what you guys do when you have an occasion coming up that requires alcohol. Do you just time it so that it doesn’t fall on one of the fasting days? Also, if you go over on a fasting day, do you start again the next day? Lastly, late night hunger – has it ever affected your sleeping?

    Thank you. N

Is this to look good at Wimbledon, Amazon? πŸ˜‰ Hope you have a great time. P

We overlapped, Nama. Are you sick of Q&A too? (Aussie panel program) P

Yep, had enough of politics, Aussie, English or American!!

Yes Nama, the blue one will be taken to Wimbledon as I’ve decided to wear my blue shoes. I was going to wear a pair of mule style sandals but they aren’t ideal for walking up and down steps to get to and from our courtside seats.

    Hi N, Wings

    welcome both of you πŸ™‚

    N,

The good thing about 5:2 is that we can move ourfast days to suit our lifestyle so if you are going out and will be having alcohol then choose another day to fast. The other thing is if you get halfway through your fast day and realise it just isn’t going to worrk then you can give in gracefully and start aging tomorrow. That happens to me fairly often at the moment!
As for late night hunger, many keep a few caloried back for a small snack or a low calorie hot chocolate drink. I only eat at dinner time on FDs so I don’t go to bed hungry.

Hi Chutkifilm (interesting name). There are many who hang around here who love fermented grape juice. They either count in in their calorie allowance, or save it for non- fast days. Many a fast day has been derailed with alcohol or peanut butter! If a fast day fails, just get back on the horse whenever you choose. Try to pick a day that you think will suit you, its completely flexible but takes practice, trial and error to see what you prefer. Some like to fast on work days, others cant contemplate that. Hard to give you exact answers about some things as this is the very reason 5:2 works – we can fit it in to our individual lives. Just keep trying, it will get easier with practise. And keep asking on here!

    Purple

I had a bad time last week and felt very down and decided I deserved a treat and wanted to ensure it was non edible πŸ˜‡
I’ve been looking for a navy blue bag for ages but so many of them seem to have big/chunky gold coloured clasps and zips. I only wear silver or white gold so am not fond of that look and was delighted to find one without any metal embellishment and a silver coloured zip.

I’m fasting today so I’ve treated myself to some sashimi and sushi for my dinner.

Hello again all . I DID enjoy my ice cream :p :p ..

Amazon enters the court singing ” don’t you step on my blue suede shoes” πŸ™‚
    . I hope you have a fantastic time .
Bought Jim a nice piece of fish when I was out so we will both have that . Sun shining one minute here and pouring the next . Typical Scottish weather . We don’t really get suntanned here we just go rusty πŸ™‚
    .

    WEE xx

    Hi Wee,

Ha ha ha! I’m wearing blue and white in honour of Dunblane’s finest sportsman and my favourite player who will be on court at some stage tomorrow afternoon πŸ™‚ I’m talking about the younger one who is world no 2 singles player rather than the older one who is world no 1 doubles player πŸ˜‰

ERRMM πŸ™‚ . Did I tell you then when we were first married we lived in Dunblane? Only a few hundreds yards from the cathedral . so I know it well . Mind you that was many years ago ( Ross calls it the black and white days lol . enjoy every moment pal xxxxx

Ha ha ha – rusty Weemam, love it!! You need Bay to scrub you!
Amazon when I was 18 I had a blue suede coat with a fur trimmed collar and matching blue suede boots, over the knee!! Boy I thought I was hot!

LOL Nama I almost replied ” I am a scrubber myself” But thought again lol πŸ˜› . I quite enjoy housework too. Always have .
PS I bet you WERE hot in your blue suede πŸ™‚

    Wee xx

A lot goes on when I sleep! Suffice to say all has been said on the topic of supporting each other’s fasting and health journies by freely voicing our thoughts, joys n concerns…all of which can do and undo my health goals. And best way to change a subject is just to talk about what you are interested in…we are dogs chasing a frisbee! Lol

Welcome Newbies; Wings, Chutkifilm, NBFTL, anyone else I missed. I’d say just remember that fasting takes practice…think long term with trial and error and you cannot go wrong because you will find what works for you and ask us questions as you go for ideas etc. For me, it is essential that I have my protein shakes for fasting days or I go over the calories every time. It has taken me a looooong time to learn that but I finally did and I know have very good fasting days. Other people have found other truths that work for them. Non fasting days, I’ve learned to have a highly nutrition meal planned to break my fast, and then the rest of my day goes better. Good luck!

HB, you made my morning coffee sound much better! Amazon, love the non food treat. I forgot what day you will go? I wish I could send my sunshine Wee, its not right hoarding it all here. If it helps, I’d die for a green forest rather than Austin Dr Seuss trees. I plan to have a great fast today as will you!

    TOMORROW 😁😍😎🎾🎾🎾

    Amazon,
I will be checking out wimbledon coverage on TV to spot your slim self.

My fast day has dissolved as my long term friend from Spain turned up to drag me out to lunch. I made sure we went to a restaurant that serves good salad. Duck and Orange- yummy (yes I know I don’t usually eat meat, just had a urge)plus a G & T. Just soup tonight, if I feel the need. So it will be a fast tomorrow now.

Just had my new passport photo done but it is not acceptable because my hair blends into the white background which is not allowed, apparently there must be definition. So do I dye my hair ( blue, red, green or black?)or buy a piece of grey card to use as background and try again.

Newbies- All welcome here. Agree that fasting is a skill that develops with time, keep drinking and keep busy.

Only 11am n i am hungry!!! Prob lack of sleep? Do i eat a good breakfast n then fast? Call it a day? Suffer through all day hunger? Im usually not having to cope until 2-5pm. Dont like this, sleepy but must carry on with kids.

Hunger isn’t usually constant, it comes and goes so try a big glass of water followed by a hot drink and then find yourself something to do that needs concentration. You can do it and you’ll be so pleased with yourself tomorrow πŸ™‚

Ok, have the kettle on and while its heating, sitting down to a big water bottle. Ive got a very cat hairy house to clean so no problem keeping busy. Thnx for pep talk A!

Amazon- just watched Marcus Willis at Wimbledon-another GB star in the making. Laura has her work cut out though.

SlimHealthy- stay strong and good luck. I will try to do better tomorrow.

Fast day here for me and its nearly 7pm so Ive almost made it!!

Managed on just black tea, weak sugar free squash, herb teas and fizzy water, but I have had to dig in deep today to avoid giving in!

Hopefully the scales will reward me in the morning!

Weather was good here today so managed a few hours gardening…

    Hi Jo,

Unfortunately Marcus Willis isn’t a star in the making as before this match he was ranked 772 and has now risen to 416. He has done amazingly well as he got into pre qualifying because someone withdrew at the last minute and he got through it and then won three qualifying matches too. It is highly unlikely that he’ll go any further as his next opponent is going to be Roger Federer.
I’m really pleased that he got a lucky break as he has been struggling and took a coaching job as he was so broke. The prize money will mean he can afford to play for the rest of the year and the rise in rankings means he’ll get into higher tier tournaments where earnings and points are slightly better, but of course he’ll need to continue to play well.
It is a great “plucky Brit” story and the media will ensure he gets more than 15 minutes of fame πŸ™‚
He is such a nice guy he is now courtside cheering on Dan Evans.

Much better now! Got through crazy hunger with water coffee dish washing and an interesting health lecture on the computer! Im on track again. Sometimes, a monster just needs a cheerleader. πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜‡

    Hi everybody.

Slimn, when I quit smoking I was told that when I get the urge I should sip an ice cold glass of water and that would take the urge away. I thought of this recently when I was talking to someone on another thread so I thought I would try it again when I get the urge to eat something on a fast day. Unfortunately my fast day isn’t until tomorrow so I can’t try this out for you, but if you have some ice cold water in the fridge it may help your hunger pangs (unless I’m too late!).

We went to Morecambe again today because the weather forecast said it was going to be cloudy with sunny periods but it turned out to be cloudy with rainy periods, so we spent most of the day wrapped up in foul weather gear. We did a few extra miles which will have helped, but unfortunately we then found that because of the extra time taken to do those extra miles when we got to the fish & chip shop it was closed. Happynow, in answer to your earlier question and to give you another clue, if I stand on a chair on my porch steps I can see the top of England’s highest mountain over to the east.

Thank you all for your advice re Pilates & kettlebells. I think I’ll just do the Pilates for now and continue with the cycling, then when I’ve lost some weight and got fitter I can try the kettlebells too. They also do the kettlebells on a different day at another church hall but it’s twice as far to get to, so I’ll worry about that later.

SlimJim- our posts must have crossed. it wasn’t too late! That’s exactly what I did! About 24 oz of cold water. Then I had a coffee, but I was already getting better after the water.

I think maybe the Almond milk Bailey’s yesterday dehydrated me and interfered with sleep. It’s just so yummy…like a milkshake going down! Noted – I am no good at proper portions of Bailey’s which I realize is an alcohol milkshake! Good to know. I also did not do beans last night as my last meal – will not let that happen again.

I made a beautiful veggie soup for tomorrow with lots of kale n cabbage but I had a small cup taste test which I can allow. Can’t wait to break my fast with it tomorrow. My hubby will have it for his fast tonight as he is very tall, huge bones and muscular beyond reason for an IT geek who sits a lot (he claims its his sturdy Swiss peasant genes) so he gets waaaay more calories than I do on fasting days.

Haven’t turned Wimbledon on yet for fear I will do no work, but I’m taping. I’ll watch last 4 rounds live if I can.

Well, I’m sure many of you are ending your fast soon – dont want to sound too woo woo, but I think knowing you all are close to success helps. Perhaps my 11am hunger coinciding with 5pm London was the CCCC stricking again! Lol

    Not stricking, but striking!

Btw SlimJim, bravo for quitting smoking, nothing harder.

I use the iced water trick too, sometimes with a tbsp cider vinegar, sometimes fizzy water. I reckon it works.
Defo brilliant to kick smoking, well done both of you.

Welcome new fast trackers and I realise that the crew is growing now at such a rapid rate that my template may need to be reviewed to simply say Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰ a bit like the man behind the Golden Microphone Mr John Laws for our Aussie team a shout out to AO and Nicky who have been a smidgin quiet this past month I hope all is well and Emel great to see you in the pages previous Dear Amazon you absolute bloody star great effort to reverse the aging process and to have indeed found the fountain of youth it was so easy after all just start again tomorrow brilliant loved it πŸ˜‰
β€œThe other thing is if you get halfway through your fast day and realise it just isn’t going to worrk then you can give in gracefully and start aging tomorrow. That happens to me fairly often at the moment!” πŸ˜† I watched our Sam last night and while sitting on the big modular lounge basking in the warm glow of the slow combustion fire it was min 6 and max 12 here yesterday and watching Wimbledon on the telly in brilliant sunshine the players look crisp and fresh in white casting a shadow on the green green grass of home πŸ˜‰ I thought then I wonder where in the stadium you may be and how exciting of course I did not know the fashionista that resides deep within you had decided with the blue suede shoes you trendsetter πŸ˜‰ I have to admit mule style sandals whatever that looks like does not sound good to me πŸ˜† I don’t have much to add or pass on than what our fast caring sharing counsel has already put up newbies however that said you only need to ask and you will get the best free advice going around.

“I am willing to overcome. I am willing to go through short-term sacrifice in order to attain the long-term benefit of losing excess weight and optimizing my health.”
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS.
    Peace RT

RT, I missed that typo 😳

again, again, a gin, agin, aging πŸ˜†

I don’t know why they are called mules either but all the girls will understand. If you are that interested I’m sure Y-Fee will know πŸ™‚
The point is that I need shoes that are secure on my feet rather than flimsy sandals when I walk up or down the steps to my seat after partaking of Pimms/champagne pre lunch and fine wines with lunch πŸ˜‰ πŸΉπŸ•πŸ—πŸžπŸπŸ“πŸ‡πŸ°πŸ·

We don’t have our tickets yet so I’m not sure exactly where we are sitting but it’ll be somewhere in the lower tiers so I have to look my best for TV 😎
When the sun shines it is very hot, well it is for us, you’d probably be wearing a jacket and scarf…… There is rain forecast late afternoon and I’m hoping it bypasses Wimbledon or arrived several hours late.

    What busy day here!
As the day went by and we had to finish painting the apartment to deliver to our next tenant around 1pm I was hungry so I went ahead and ate water.
Believe it or not by I am a fine handy woman! I don’t mind doing this kind of work … Better then cleaning the house over and over.
I broke my fast as usual with somethings uncomplicated. Whole lettuce, black bean burger and saurkraut. That was my single meal πŸ˜‚. The scale shows always better results on Thursday…. Too much going on every weekend.
Jo I will sometime watch your choir.
Amazon I will try to watch at least one match and thing of you.
Otherwise a big virtual hug and kiss for everyone there πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹
    Tomorrow is another day πŸ™πŸ»
    B

RT….I chuckled at that….aging tomorrow if all else fails!

Ive made it to the end of the day on full fast…woohoo! Im hoping to wake up slimmer than last week πŸ˜‰

For those of you still in the middle of your day, keep strong and enjoy what you are doing.

Lol. Well, after all that, 300 cal fast wasn’t meant to be. I succumbed to a bowl of beans while my children drug dinner out as long as possible talking about Greek mythology. Alas, I’ve fasted enough times now to have all my SIRT1 genes upregulated and there will be 600 cal fasts on days like this.

I think my summer house imprisonment with small talkative beings is getting to me a bit. I love them beyond love…but trying to get them to jump in the car and get somewhere before the heat goes to 100 is like trying to herd cats. Tomorrow I will be getting my meditation and walk in before my husband leaves for work and see if the rest of the week has more ease.

So excited for Amazon tomorrow! 🎾🎾🎾

Slimn, the thing is if you do eat something extra on a fast day, don’t then toss in the towel and open the flood gates.
As most of us eventually realise, it is MUCH easier to eat nothing. Very hard to stop yourself once the salivation starts, but an important skill to learn for long term maintenance. I am staggered how little food it takes to maintain my healthy weight (58kg), so have to practice restraint every day, every meal. Some days harder than others, but definitely easier when busy or limiting the opportunities to overeat. Serve out exact portions and pack everything away before eating. Never have “serve yourself more” meals! Leave others to keep eating while you start washingup. You can still talk. Move away from the dining table promptly at the end of a meal.
We are spending a few days in the sun in our holiday place, watching whales. I have very little food here, veg soup, homemade bread, so I can’t nibble.😐
Enjoy your kids without food. Cheers P

    Yes Purple, agree whole heartedly.

My youngest is 6 years old so still needs a little more involvement in dishing food or cutting etc than my fasting self can handle…I think as they get older it gets better.

Also if I put everything on the plate, they don’t eat their veggies, so I serve in courses to be sure all the good veggies go, then on to the rest…this puts me to the test as well.

This is why I chose this group because it is so active…its why I post so often…it’s so easy to forget that I need to do this now, for me and for them, not later, not when they go to high school but now… it’s very hard with children. They ask you, unconsciously of course, every minute, to Not care about yourself. It’s such a balancing act, caring for them and not forgetting I need to attend to my health.

But I am proud that I can now cave in to a bowl of beans and then be done with it…I then just consider it a higher cal fast day or I start the fast after the meal…I never just say oh well n pig out anymore. That’s a big victory for me. πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ’ƒ

Tomorrow will be an eat day but I will put extra focus on lots of veg, green soup, salad.

Don’t you love being able to chat any time of the day or night….always someone hanging around our cafΓ©!
My kids are grown up, but I mind my grandchildren every few days so I know your temptations. I sit and chat as they eat. Such a pleasure.
Well done on stopping quickly. 300cal is an aim, but can be bent, especially if you have gone at least 16 hours first. It’s that long fast overnight and in the morning that does the trick. I live with a “reformed” diabetic, so get daily feedback via his bloodsugar results. Very handy and I don’t have to prick MY fingers! ☺
    Cheers P

Wow you lovely people have been busy! Sitting at LA airport reading all the posts! Had a fabulous time at the movie festival and was really good with the food, but drank way too much! Pool parties every night until late also but I had a blast. My hubbie actually recorded me with little snores and played it to everyone were with the next day, so I know all about that! I have to say through I have never in my life seen so many overweight people in one place, I don’t think they have heard of 5:2 in Palm Springs!

Fasting tomorrow and I need to give my poor liver a rest!

    Enjoy Wimbledon Amazon.

SlimnHealthy I also have the same challenge when I have all my 3 step kids with us. We have them all for 3 weeks next month. Will see how the fasting goes then. How do you cope?

I like that visual Purple. Our all-time-zone cafe. Drop in anytime. β˜•οΈ

Purple how nice you’ve summarized our WOL for Slim H! Nothing like a good advice from the ones who were there once πŸ™
It’s an everyday exercise and a constant reminder that the big picture it’s to be healthy after all. I agree with you. Somedays easier, others harder … and there’s always another day and a “younger you”/RT.
Purple my goal is that number of yours or 125lbs.
Love to know that our cyber cafe it’s always open πŸ’‹
