  • Hi everyone, hoping you all had a good day (FD or non-FD as the case may be). Well finally some good news from the specialist, the bone has healed well and now I’m off to physio to regain range of movement, pain relief and aqua therapy for movement and strength too and the two major items is NO more sling and YES to driving πŸ˜€ .

Agree Jojo lack of sleep and pain are NOT a good combo, very debilitating over time. I don’t care but tonight I’ll take more if needed but will hope I won’t need it as I don’t have to be up in the morning so if I can sleep through a bit longer I will, but if I wake through the night I can go back to sleep after taking more pain relief and not have to worry about getting up.

Amazon I may just join you in a FD tomorrow if not physically I’ll be with you mentally spurring you on to succeed πŸ˜€

I need to shift 6kg and can’t manage it on my own. I need ideas and support as my GP just told me to join Weightwatchers!! I am fit and was healthy but had a big operation last August 2014 and now feel like a blown up balloon!

    Welcome Miss Ty,
Firstly read Michael Moseleys book, it will help you understand the complete program.
Drink lots of water, 2 litres throughout the day and record calories on myfitnesspal application on phone or computer. Keep busy and walk everyday.
    Good luck!

Weight watchers may help you but they charge you for the privilege and promote sweet foodstuffs, especially their own makes. Sugar and carbs are best limited and avoided if you can whilst you attempt to lose weight.

Basically fresh food not processed and you will form healthy eating for good.

    First day today folks
Can tell already that reading about your experiences and tips is going to help
Will let you know along the way

    Hi AO,

Great news, but you still need to take it easy and not try to do too much too soon. I’m so pleased that the arm is healing well Smiley

Hi AO, what fabulous news – your break is healed!!! Hopefully your pain will improve now that the physio can get all those poor muscles moving again, hydrotherapy sounds great! So pleased for you, what an awful time you have had from one small trip.

Sorry to hear you are a bit flat Jojo. I highly recommend the complete fast for a day. As I said to Amazon, I am not sure if its just mind over matter, but I seem to be completely ‘reset’ after Mondays fast. Today was easy, I hardly felt like eating at all, no sugar or carb cravings at all. Met a friend for coffee and sat near a cabinet full of rich goodies that previously would have very hard to ignore and they did not even tempt me. I really hope it lasts!

We just watched a great doco on Governor Arthur Phillip, who sailed to and established Sydney with the first fleet. It highlighted his birthplace in England, lots of views of the Thames, (thought of Amazon), discussed his time with the Portugese Navy (thought of Wiwi when they showed Lisbon)and even showed where he died in Bath. (thought of Jojo & Smiffy’s adventures there last year)! So even though I was enjoying all the history, I was also thinking of more recent 5:2 ‘history’

    High Nama,
Good for you, it is not easy to resist the sugary food when right under your nose. I had a quiet, retrospective day on my own. Gave myself a good talking too and did some packing. I even sat in the garden for an hour then watched the tennis. Murray, my hero, but actually I love all the players. They were dealing with 40 degrees in Centre Court, unheard of in Wimbledon history I should think.

Amazon- great game this afternoon, was it not?

I think Smiffy and I went to York and Harrogate but I am keen to revisit Bath, nice place. I will be visiting Sydney though, can’t wait.

AO- great to hear your news, best arm forwards, please don’t trip over again.

Welcome Stormyweather, good handle. Please tell us more about your journey so far, is this your first attempt at fasting?

I had homemade chicken soup for lunch and fresh salmon salad for dinner. Drank lots of water and two or three cuppas. So not a bad non fast day. Decided the mimic fast was not for me, can’t eat bread again, it was my downfall before and I am still not in control of it sadly. I am going to try liquid fast tomorrow see if it kickstarts my weightloss again. Positive action- it’s the only way forward. Very busy here as the flat goes on the market this weekend so I need to get all knick knacks packed away and make some space, that should help with a quick rental agreement. I move out at the end of July and I need to get a boiler changed and paint all the walls and woodwork first. Yikes.

    Time to get cracking.

I am enjoying the tennis but not the drivel and nonsense uttered by some of the bozos that the BBC employ at this time of year. Andy won in difficult conditions against a tricky opponent, and he did it in straight sets. Can’t ask for more than that.
It is going to be hotter tomorrow so it’ll be 45Β°C on court.

The liquid fast is tough, and I’ve eaten a peach as I needed something sweet or I would have thrown in the towel. I’m happy with that and confident I can make it to bedtime without eating anything else. I keep telling myself that I’ll be thrilled when I step on the scales tomorrow. If I’m not it’ll be too late πŸ˜†
The smell of neighbourhood BBQs isn’t helping….

Hello, fast friends! So many posts to catch up on!

Mandolin mishaps, haha! I recommend the spiralizer…safer and makes such fun shapes!i have been known to cut myself often with a regular knife, but have not injured myself with the mandolin. Knock on wood!

School is out for summer as of last Thursday, woohoo! I have been going nonstop since, but all for fun. The party was a huge success! Brining together lots of people I love is the best! Everyone loved the food, and had a great time. The omnivores, carnivore, vegetarians, and vegans were all satisfied! My son really appreciated all the decor and special details I included. Clean up wasn’t too bad, the only casualty was a canopy that got rained on overnight and collapsed, but easily replaceable. I managed to eat almost nothing all night, so that’s good too!

The next morning we left on a little beach getaway to a lovely B&B on Cape Cod. Gorgeous place, and we are in an adorable suite called The Sail Loft, with real sails hanging that shield lsweet little alcoves. We have a private balcony where I am sitting in dappled sunlight through the trees right now. Just back form a few hours at the beach on a perfectly sunny day. Lunch at a new little roadside place where I had veggie tacos. Totally delicious with avocado, purple cabbage slaw, radishes and roasted red peppers. I am still amazed at how little food it takes to feel satisfied. We rode bikes almost 20 miles yesterday. Home tomorrow., and excited, like you Amazon, to get to the gym!

Amazon, your trip to Bruges sounds fabulous! You certainly seem to have taken full advantage of every moment there. Glad you finally got a waffle!

Jojo, I, too, feel as if I know you and yours. I have no doubt that we will meet one day, and I look forward to it! Hope you are feeling a bit more cheerful. I am in for the mental check in for July, beginning tomorrow.

Aussie Oma, hope your recovery continues and speeds up. You are a trooper.

Off to rinse the sand now, I see that I am behind about 20 posts again! Xoxo

Excellent advice Jojo. And good luck fasting today.
Fabulous news re your arm AO. You’ll be back on the tennis circuit soon πŸ˜‰
The party sounds great Ply and I can envisage you on the beach at Cape Cod. We particularly loved Sandwich in that part of the woods …although my son-i-l kept looking for the sandwich shop!
Aching muscles after painting 7 doors yesterday, but have to get up and do the second coats today πŸ™ I remember why I employ “a little man” to do it at home these days. All good exercise though. Cheers P

It’s almost 10pm and I’ve got through on tea, coffee, gallons of water, some salt and a peach. I am happy with that and am hoping the scales make me smile tomorrow morning. If they don’t, I know that the weight will start to shift in the next day or two.

Time for an early night πŸ˜›

Top work Amazon!!!!! Your halo is glistening πŸ™‚
Sleepp the sleep of the good! P

    Hi All,
Just back from an evening playing cards. Cheered me up a great deal. We had cherries, strawberries and red grapes for our snack. Better than pate, cheese and biscuits usually on offer. The fruit should counteract all the painkillers I have had today. Packing and playing bowls match tomorrow. I will be too busy to eat.

Well done Amazon on your liquid fast, look forward to the result.

Hey Ply, sounds like Bliss on the beach- enjoy, you deserve it.

PVE- we have a place local to here called Sandwich too, it’s very pretty on the river. It has a huge golf course there where the ‘Open’ is played. I go there for lunch occasionally.

Must get some sleep now. Night, night friends

I guess your Sandwich is the original Jojo…Earl of S and all that! I presume it has a sandwich shop. The US one doesn’t.
Feeling awful after a couple more doors painted. The oil based fumes are really getting to me. More whales passing, so a good excuse to stop and have a cuppa and apple. πŸ™‚ P

Purple, we lived in Sandwich for about 4 years, and my parents lived there for 15. It is a lovely town!

It is ideed Ply. Picturesque (pronounced picture skew πŸ™‚ )

    Hi Everyone,
I just love reading everyones comments. Great Job Amazon, making it through a fast day. I had the opposite kind of day,
PVE- I started staining my planter boxes today, I lasted 30 minutes with the fumes. It is right now 104 degrees out side. I am hoping to get in at least another 30 before dark.
Jo-jo, I am finding that I am most happiest when I am being social.
AO- I love to hear good news, I hope you get lots of sleep.
Ply- sounds like a lovely party and a nice time at the beach. How many days off before you have to go back to work. I have to return on Aug 10th.
Nama- Way to go. I do so much better when I do not have sugar. Yesterday I ended the day with a small glass of wine, I woke up so hungry. It was not worth it. I have been craving food all day. Tomorrow will be better. Nama I hope your cravings stay away.
Besides staining planter boxes, I accomplished a large amount of house work, including cleaning out 4 drawers and doing 2 loads of laundry.
    Good night

    Peace RT

    Hi everyone

A quick hello to let you know I’m still alive and kicking. Have been reading but no time to respond to everyone’s posts – you are all so chatty!

Insanely busy at work (and home), despite expecting to be cruising after my TAFE commitments ended – colleague has been off sick for nearly a fortnight and we other two have picked up the slack. Plus have acquired some new responsibilities (fun or I wouldn’t have agreed).

Jojo, will try to record feelings as you suggested. Interesting to see if there’s any correlation between that and unplanned eating.

Nama, you suggested RT and I were having a long lunch πŸ˜† Mrs RT doesn’t have anything to worry about as I suspect I’m old enough to be his mother.

My cold now only represented by a slight occasional cough so a good FD on Monday, followed by what turned out to be a very light (non FD) yesterday at <1000C and scales showed it this morning. Another light day today and am planning to avoid eating between meals until next Monday’s FD and see the result. As I have said before, my target TDEE is just under 1500C and my Fitbit shows I routinely burn at least 2,500C. Will let you know – it just needs the company of that gentleman Mr Will Power! (BTW, not sure if I said before but that was the name of one of my TAFE students – what were his parents thinking?)

RT, our posts crossed. Glad to hear the dreaded stocktake is over. Happy new FY to you too. I’m still in the throes of editing my bit of the annual report for our Board πŸ™

Happy hump day (Wednesday) everyone. n xxx

    Morning/evening all.
Forecast for London today is 33Β°C which is nothing to those of you who inhabit the SH or parts of America, but here it is bloody hot! It is already 21 and it is not 7:30am yet. I love the heat but there are so many who don’t know how to deal with it and end up ill as they spend too much time in it and/or don’t take on any extra fluids.
I’m off to the gym this morning and then meeting a friend for coffee and cake which will be what breaks my successful liquid fast plus peach πŸ˜‰ I feel fine this morning, not hungry and after two months of eating unwisely/comfort eating and the delights of Bruges, am only 3lbs from my lowest. I am very happy with that and feeling positive and motivated that I can lose those pounds quickly and get to a new low in the near future.
I might incorporate a liquid day next week if circumstances permit.

Have a good one everybody πŸ˜›

    Hi jojo,

I read your comments about the FMD, and I had the same reservations as I break fast late morning/lunchtime and don’t eat bread during the week.

I’d thought when I get round to trying it, probably later in the year, that I’d just push the breakfast back and make it a late brunch or combine it with the lunch, and probably omit the bread.

Alternatively, and to get round the problem of having a loaf in the house, you could buy one wholemeal roll and slice it (3 or 4, depending on size) to make up the bread component.

I can’t see that a few adjustments would compromise the diet, or I hope not at least!

    Amazon,

I love your honesty… ‘liquid fast plus peach’!

Enjoy the coffee and cake, well deserved after yesterday’s fast.

It was the tastiest peach I’ve ever eaten………

Am I missing something in the FMD link? I didn’t see any specific foods mentioned just the proportion of fat, protein and carbs.

    Hi Amazon,

The Telegraph ran two articles, and one included a meal plan:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/wellbeing/diet/11686002/Why-weve-all-been-doing-the-Fast-Diet-wrong.html

I’m assuming this is what jojo referred to, it’s what I was referring to anyway! As you say the original study just referred to proportions.

Page 206 follow links to specific five day FMD Amazon. Afraid I can’t do bread anymore, no control so I won’t be doing it. I am best off without sugar fix in bread. I get my carbs from veg in salad and potato in soup. I can’t remember the last time I had a peach. I tend to buy fruit that is already ripe or no issue like apples and oranges. Given up on kiwi, peaches, plums and bananas either us ripe or going off before I get to eat them.

Great news is one pound down.

NickyF- The results ref my well being so far have shocked me. I have actually eaten more when happy than unhappy. Early days but this has shocked me. I has a miserable daytime yesterday yet stuck to my non fast day plan with no snacking(fruit last night was counted in plan and necessary to counter effect of painkiller on digestive system). Happy day Monday yet cheated on FMD as couldn’t resist bread.

I have decided to stick with my formulae of soup for lunch but I have cut the breadsticks( all 4) and salad and fish with either hot veg or salad for dinner. Still no alcohol or snacking any day. On fast days I am trying liquid only, if I weaken ?I will have salad only and no protein. I will continue to do 15,000 steps daily which includes one dog walk 5,000, one bowls match( (2 hours) 5,000 and rest of day 5,000. Next week, after packing completed I will include a daily swim for one hour. Feeling strong today after a drug induced sleep( only painkillers don’t panic).

RT- I was a stock controller at one point in my career but we operated a continuous stock count system. Daily count of certain number of lines, counting high value lines more frequently (some items weekly) than low value. Seemed to work quite well. Stores were never informed which lines would be counted on any one day. But of course this did involve employing a group of 8 stock checkers permanently. Most errors came down to input or binning errors and only investigated if outside tolerances. Luckily security in stores was excellent. I was working for British Gas in the Engineering Department.

Happynow- good Luck with FMD-I am sure you will beat the bread temptation.

Sandwich has many lovely ‘tea’ shops and sandwich bars plus an excellent secret garden, antiques fair, river trip area, willow trees, nature trails to the coast and nature reserve. Pretty special. Not sure about links to Earl-I will check it out on my next visit.

Sarah- I thought I had a lot of planter boxes- 20. What do you grow in yours? I like to grow fusia and busy lizzies( impatients)

We have low odour paint here, I much prefer it.

Finished my door painting and enjoying the full moon rising over the ocean as I sip a cheeky little white and partake of some smoothy Tassy blue cheese. THIS is what it is all about…work flat out and really enjoy the rest at the end of the day.
    As RT says Peace! P

SEVEN WEIGHT-LOSS MYTHS REVEALED will help you take the first step towards making yourself look good and feel great.

I hope you enjoy reading it and find it useful.

    SEVEN WEIGHT-LOSS MYTHS REVEALED
MYTH: Low fat means low calorie.
β€˜Low fat’ or β€˜fat free’ doesn’t always mean low calorie or calorie free. Check the calorie content of these foods, especially cakes, biscuits, crisps, ice creams and ready meals. Extra sugars and thickeners are often added to boost flavour so calorie content may be the same as standard products.
MYTH: Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight.
Skipping meals is not a good technique. To lose weight and KEEP IT OFF you need to reduce the total number of calories you consume or increase the calories you burn through exercise. Skipping meals leads to tiredness and poor nutrition and is likely to cause snacking on high-fat, high-sugar foods which can result in weight gain.
    MYTH: Carbohydrates cause weight gain.
Carbohydrates do not cause weight gain unless they contribute to excess calorie intake. The same holds true for protein and fat. Studies show that people who maintain weight loss tend to eat diets
that are higher in carbohydrates and lower in fat in addition to watching their total calorie intake. They also eat the correct amount of carbohydrate, fat and protein each day for a balanced diet.
MYTH: You shouldn’t snack between meals.
Snacking isn’t the problem when trying to lose weight; it is the type of snack. A healthy snack between meals such as fruit, raw vegetables, rice cake or yoghurt will help to keep blood sugar levels steady and prevent the need for a sugar rush from sweet high-fat snacks.
MYTH: Margarine is healthier and lower in fat than butter.
Margarine and butter contain different types of fat. Margarine is usually lower in saturated fat than butter but is likely to contain hydrogenated or trans-fats which may be more harmful to health
than saturated fat. To lose weight and help keep your heart healthy reduce the amount of saturated and hydrogenated fat that you eat.
MYTH: Healthy food is more expensive.
You will probably pay more for a high-fat, high-salt ready-meal than you would if you bought the ingredients and made the meal yourself.
MYTH: Food eaten late at night is more fattening.
Studies have shown that it is not when you eat but the total amount you consume in a 24 hour period. People who skip meals throughout the day and then eat a lot in the evening are more likely to be overweight that those who eat regularly throughout the day. Eating regular balanced meals and snacks through the day helps to regulate the blood sugar level and prevent craving for high-sugar, high-fat snacks. Many late-night eaters consume more calories than they need by snacking on things like chocolate, nuts, biscuits and cheese. And while cooking an evening meal or waiting for a takeaway we tend to drink more alcohol.

Ah, Purple, Picture-skew…I learn so much on the is thread! Glad you are enjoying your well-deserved rest. I have wanted to stain the interior doors in my house since we moved in. Perhaps I can get to it this summer. I used to work in a tea shop in Sandwich, US called Beth’s Special Taes. I wonder if you got there? Guess what? My job was to make sandwiches!

Rat, glad you will get a bit of a breather after your hard work! Your salad sounds yum, too!

Great work reaching your goals, Wee! Nice for your lovely hubby to have a place to relax!

Nice to hear from you, Nicky! No rest for the weary, and my mom says!

Sarah, the B&B we are staying in has a fiirepit out back for guest use, and a basket with long sticks, marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers for s’mores every night! We haven’t had any, though! I go back to school officially on September 1 this year. Usually we are after Labor Day, but Labor Day is late this year and combined with the fear over multiple snow days again, the school board decided to change the calendar. I have a few days of curriculum and training work scheduled during July and August, and I am teaching a graduate course for teachers the first two weeks in August, so it won’t be a true summer “off,” but it never is!

We are headed home is morning after a lovely and relaxing few days. Seeing my older son (the younger is off this morning to a destination wedding in Cancun for the rest of the week) on Thursday for his birthday, and then a big family party for Independence Day. Glad we kissed and made up all you Brits!

Happy fasting, everyone! I will likely do a 300 calorie day today, dinner only. I have my trainer at the gym tonight.

My 2nd son’s birthday is July 4, Ply. When he was 6 he wanted to change his name to Sam!
No. We didn’t find the Sandwich sandwiches πŸ™‚
I’m fasting tomorrow as I drive home. P

    Hello all,

Well what a productive lot! Apart from Ply who is enjoying a well earned break, but after all your work for your son’s party Ply, you deserve a few days break! Your getaway at Cape Cod sounds really lovely.

Purple has certainly been busy, I think the cheese and wine was a fitting reward too! I cant believe you said ‘Picture-skew’ Purple – I thought that was my husbands expression!

Lovely to hear from you Wee, mixed news from Scotland…. lovely that Jim is feeling so much better, but sad to see your dear Dad decline. At least he is relaxed enough to sleep, surrounded by love. I hate to see an elderly person who is confused and restless, that is really sad. And congratulations on your amazing weight losses, truly something to celebrate.

I am finding the liquids only fasting much easier too. Second fast day this week just done and dusted and nothing but coffee and water all day. Your words of wisdom are so true RT, definitely far easier not to start eating at all, than to stop once started. Finger much better thanks but still standing out like a sore thumb! Changing sheets on bed today, no bandaid as I thought it was safe, but no, I still managed to knock it and get blood on the doona cover! I do have special talents!

Fancy it being so hot for Wimbledon – I feel sorry for the players on Centre Court when it gets that hot, but they seem to cope. I guess its because they are super fit. Whats that saying about Mad Dogs and Englishmen going out in the midday sun?!

Good to hear from you Nicky – glad your cold has improved. You do sound very busy! You know I was joking about the long lunch as all you South Aussies vanished at once! RT may not like the new nickname that Ply has given him…….

Darn it, thought I had fixed that autocorrect! RT, I am pretty sure you won’t be offended and are likely to respond with, “I’ve been called worse!”

    Afternoon all.

Great to hear everyone’s news. Well done Wee. Sorry your Dad is declining, I know it is tough for you. Cyber hugs to you.

I had a good morning at the gym then met my friend. I had iced coffee and a piece of strawberry gateau which was actually a very light sponge with lots of cream and fruit.
My workout went well and I had a lovely swim afterwards and didn’t want to get out of the pool. It is 33Β°C and humid here and we are apparently expecting rain tomorrow.

Happy thanks for posting the link, and thanks Jojo for the info. I managed to find what I was looking for. I might give the FMD a go at some point. I make my own bread without added sugar, the yeast doesn’t need it, and the eating plan looks doable.

I was less hungry after my workout today than usual and I’m sure it is an effect of my peach fast πŸ˜‰ Seriously, I found my liquid fast tough but it was mindset not hunger that made it hard. Now I’ve succeeded I know I can do it once a week. I agree with Nama in that I feel it has reset my system and I feel great today πŸ˜›

    Time for tennis.

I love it Amazon! You have patented a new fast – The Amazon Peach Fast! Enjoy the tennis, I am off to bed..

    Good evening all,
Fast day, fluid only a disaster.
I was only able to last until 1 pm, I felt faint and nauseous so I had a fresh prawn salad because I was playing a bowls match this afternoon.
Got to the club in time to see one of our youngest members collapse with a heart attack. He was rushed to hospital, no news heard since so it is very worrying. He is only early 50’s, total workaholic and diabetic. Horrible start to the afternoon.
However I played very well and our teams made him proud. Hope he recovers well.

I will give the fluid fast a try on another day when I am not so busy. Of course it didn’t help that it was the hottest day of the year 35 degrees plus here. And what was I doing in this heat, rubbing down 7 doors, frames, bannister and skirting boards. Then I walked the dogs in some shady woodland. It was during this walk I began to feel light headed. By the time I got home I was pale and felt very sick. I decided to eat and drink some more water. I had already drunk two litres of water by lunch time because it was hot work rubbing down paintwork, sweating buckets. Recovered quickly after eating thank goodness.

Ate dinner too, sweet chilli stir fry- rice, quorn, corn, onions, peppers adding pepper to season – delicious. Made some chicken soup for tomorrow.

Ply- I think I will be coming to USA next April/May so we will need to arrange a meet up. Is the weather ok that time of year? I will be starting my trip with San Fransisco as my son is moving there with his job in March. I will probably stay one month.

PVE- I agree, weighing daily can be depressing but it has at least stopped me gaining. It highlights the links between weight gain and previous days food eaten.

Amazon- I caught some tennis at the highlights, fantastic. Tomorrow looks even better- Murray, Fedora and Nadal – yes, yes, yes!

Nama- don’t you just hate changing bed sheets. Even using the new technique of rolling it’s still a chore. Love my new foam topper though, much softer mattress.
Glad you are doing ok on liquid fast, what liquids do you have?

Lisaswift- thanks for your input but we know what we are doing on this thread. Fasting teaches us control. This is something we haven’t learnt on other diets.

Weemam- you continue to inspire me, so disciplined. So sucessful, so positive. Love to hubby, sonny and Daddy.
Goodnight fellow Fasters, good morning Downunderers

    Morning all,

I couldnt wait to post today as I am so excited. The liquid only fasts have been a breakthrough for me! I lost another 1.2 from the second fast, and even with the inevitable bounce up in between, today I am exactly 20kg less than when I started fasting last September. Very, very happy. I plan to eat well on non fast days, but as Amazon says, appetite and cravings esp. are completely reset. Yesterday I had a ‘cooking for the freezer day’ and no more hunger pangs than usual. Serious ones when I was at the shops and passed a donut shop (dont even really like donuts, but the smell….), but they passed very quickly and I felt fine.

Jojo, I drank only water (fizzy mineral water with lots of lemon juice/slices) and several coffees with a little full cream milk. So calorie wize, probably 100 worth of milk. I think maybe the lack of solid food helps by not stimulating the gut. I think your water fast crashed because you were so active and it is so hot at the moment. Try again on a not so busy day (do you ever have any of those?!) I kept very busy yesterday (hence the hated bed changing) but didnt do any heavy stuff like you! Or Jojo maybe you should just stick to basic 5:2 and try to be patient?

RT your Thai lunch did sound yum. I have some steaks for dinner tonight, so will make a nice salad too. Good luck with the Dry July. I am sure it will be easier for you this year, with your newly discovered copious self control!

    Have a lovely day/evening all, Cheers x

Congratulations Nama. You must be thrilled…and look gorgeous. ..stauesque AND thin πŸ˜‰ P

Thank you Purple. Thrilled is an understatement. I had definitely ‘stalled’ and by rebooting I remember the thrill of when this WOL first worked for me. I think its important to eat well still on the days between fasts, I think it would be too easy to slip into ‘starvation mode’ if I didn’t. Still don’t feel hungry…. miraculous!

I do wish there were a few more men here to be honest and I am actually surprised there isn’t but as Ned Kelly said Such is Life
Great article PVE on behalf of me the man thanks I have put this simple strategy in place
While daily weight checks did help women, they had a much greater effect in men.
No idea why this would be but I will run with it at my lowest 68kg at my highest 71kg and mostly somewhere in between and if it
“forces you to be aware of the connection between your eating and your weight,”
    A good tip.
It is amazing that 12 months ago the very thought of having to fast from midnight to 8am for blood tests was a fate worse than death for me and I would be in the golden arches drive thru on the way home for sure 😳 and yet now we can all mostly roll off a 24 hour liquid fast with relative ease and minimum discomfort and break that fast with good healthy choices what a life changing and significant skill fasting is thanks be to DrM.
Nama Nama Nama wow wow wow what can I say that is sensational for you personally and also for the true believers and the lurkers here as well and you know who you are πŸ˜‰ to read these life changing exciting personal stories of permanent lasting weight loss this PB is looking on shaky ground now me thinks a six will be the first number for sure .

On a fast day refrain restrain divert and distract. Before you know it, you’ve retrained your brain and hunger’s off the menu.
    Peace RT

I have read all the posts
Today I did a liquid fast, it is 6:30pm here. I am going to make it:). I kept my self busy all day, now I just need to be distracted for a few more hours.
My brother and I rented a beach house for our families in Ventura, I cannot wait. We leave on Friday morning, I am going to go pack right now.
    Everyone is doing so awesome.

Wow, Nama, well done.. What a fantastic result. πŸ™„ πŸ™„ Ferocious winds today in Melbourne. Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    Enjoy your break Sarah πŸ™‚
RT, you are not alone. Mr P is the silent partner in this. He loves me to read your posts. Great jokes. (He CAN read, but I have to censor some posts first πŸ˜‰ )
I am following your motto right now. “On a fast day refrain, restrain, divert and distract.” Amazing how quickly the fast day disappears and how much gets done πŸ˜‰ P

Thanks RT and Bay for your enthusiasm! Wise words as usual RT, so true. Bay I pegged the sheets out in the wind as the sun was shining, but yes, immediately big black cloud and a dump of rain! Ah well, the sun is out again now and there is a big Kookaburra laughing in the back yard! The sheets will be extra clean!

Sarah I have never been to Ventura but my husband has and loved it. We have some amazing tongs for our open fire that he found there, so a constant reminder. I hope you have a lovely break with your families.

Don’t get blown away in that Melbourne wind skinny minnies!

Ha, ha, ha. I will stay firmly grounded! Arent you supposed to be packing the car for the trip home?

    Morning/Evening all,
Onward and upward (or downwards as the case may be πŸ˜€ ) well total gained over the past 6 weeks while on all the pain med’s and inability to do anything at all is a grand total of 2kg (which happened in the first week from memory) which also includes PJ’s weight. Tomorrow I commence again, even with pain meds, as I need to get back on track and removing that 2kg before it makes itself at home on me, lol Smiley I know that exercise would help but am still quite restricted, but will know more after physio this arvo πŸ˜€

RT I often quote some of your sayings to OH who has a chuckle too, although he’s not experiencing this WOL but is supporting me to attain my goals.

Tomorrow will be my official “weigh day” as previously and will commencing being a loser from there πŸ˜€

Love reading about everyone, we’ll have to catch up Jojo when you’re here πŸ™‚ along with everyone else from SA (c’mon RT you too πŸ˜€ )

Would love to travel again, thinking seriously about downsizing eventually and maybe going to warmer climes as I really do dislike this cold weather we’re experiencing, brrrrrr!!!

I’d love to be having near to the temp’s you’re getting in London, although I wouldn’t like the humidity that goes along with it, which is why it seems hotter than here as we get a much drier heat which is, for me at least, much easier to take πŸ˜€

Must run as the people updating my solar system are almost finished and I need to get moving soon (the inverter died for the 3rd time and now the company are finally updating to a more robust system which meant they needed to make changes to something on the roof too). Already generating electricity even though it’s mainly overcast with only a little direct sunlight which the guys were surprised at the amount already generated and it’s only been in working mode for 30 mins.

Have happy days/nights one and all πŸ˜€ and chat again soon.

Wow, busy thread while I’ve been kipping!

    Nama,

Congratulations on the weight loss. You deserve it, you’ve certainly put the effort in this week. I think if weight loss stalls, you have to face the fact that, for whatever reason, what you’re doing isn’t working. You bit the bullet and made the change and the results speak for themselves.

You (and Amazon) have also inspired me this week with your liquid only (+/- peach πŸ™‚ ) fasts. I know a lot of people do 22 – 24 hours, but not many push through to 36. It really is all in the mind though isn’t it?

    AO,

Fantastic that you didn’t gain more weight, given what you’ve been through! It sounds like you’re reinvigorated after your unplanned break from 5:2, so that extra will be gone in a flash.

The success of the liquid only fasts this week reminds me that the importance of creating a significant calorie differential between fast and non-fast days has been mentioned previously as key to weight loss. Which makes me wonder jojo whether you have thought about mixing things up? Maybe go back to 5:2, as Nama suggests, but try liquid only fasts and perhaps add the saved calories to your non-fast days? It wouldn’t reduce (or increase) the total number of calories for the week, but it would certainly be more famine for your feast! And it would mean that you weren’t calorie restricting to such a degree on non-fast days. I think you’ve said you never eat more than 1200 calories, which must surely make you a CR(on)?! So it might start to move you towards a more normal TDEE and a healthier metabolism generally? Also with a few more calories to play with on non-fast days, sticking to fasting might be easier?

Anyway, just a thought. Feel free to ignore me! I think it’s perhaps the scientist in me that can’t resist picking at the problem of your stalled weight… Sorry! πŸ™‚

    Happy fasting all…

    Morning/evening all.

I think I coped with the liquid fast well because I don’t usually eat until dinner on fast days so am used to not having anything all day. The toughest time was late afternoon which is when I usually have my FD meal. It is going to be hot and humid again today and it is a FD. I’m going to try not to eat anything again, but I have some melon in the fridge on standby.
I have to go food shopping so am foing now nefore it gets too hot and before I am hungry.

Great work Nama, you’ve inspired me πŸ˜›
Good to hear from everyone else, we are a chatty group.

AO 2kg is a great result after what you’ve been through and it won’t take you long to lose it. I’m so pleased your recovery is going well, you must be relieved and happy πŸ™‚

    Have a great day/evening everyone.
