  • Hi ginette,

    Congratulations on your weight loss.

Will the last person on this thread please switch off the light.

    Where is everyone else ????????

    Audrey

    Hello ladies,
I have been on 5:2 since Aug 2013. In Dec I have done 6:1, but otherwise stick to 5:2. Seems I eat enough to require 5:2 for life. That’s okay by me. I like not having to “diet” to maintain. Too many off and on diets through my life. I really hate them…because after loss then I proceed to gain all back. 5:2 is very welcome.

This summer we had a five week holiday in which I not only did not do any 5:2 or 6:1. I came back having gained 6 lb. after 5 WKS. I simply ate without restrictions. BAD IDEA Now I have reduced down to 3 lb over what I weighed when I left. I have a hard time walking due to injury so now for tours and museums and shopping I use a travel scoot. That changes metabolism in 5 WKS. Had a good time, but it will be the last 5 week jaunt we will go on for various reasons.

I am encouraged about 5:2. You probably guessed I am an American. I don’t know the products in the UK that come up on blog. I am pretty pleased with raw veggies and a soft boiled egg or two on my fast day. My husband and I both do 5:2. He prefers a frozen meal of which there are a number under 200 calories. For lunch we eat yogurt. I prefer not cooking two days per week or I would try some of these recipes. This has been a good experience to know I can get weight reduction with 5:2 and get back to gym and PT without a lot of pain. I enjoy hearing your experiences with 5:2. Have only 3 here who are doing 5:2 beside husband and I. The book has not caught here I am sorry to say. My own success also has not convinced many 5:2 is a good idea for them. I think there are a lot of misconceptions here about “fasting.” Pea Jay

    Hi Audrey

Many thanks, it is nice to know that you are still online.

    Hi Pea Jay

Yes it’s lovely having days when the word diet doesn’t exist. I am on a very long journey and nearly half way there. I have lost 234lbs and still have about 240 to go. It may take another year or more but I shall keep on going.

We have so many recipes here in the UK geared towards 5:2. We are very lucky. I like doing a big pot of something and having in for two days that week with maybe another 3 portions in the freezer for later.

Yes it is sad that neither America or Canada have really realised that this way of life is good. There are big obesity problems in the UK similar to America. One of the problems here is fizzy drinks or sodas as you will know them.

There was an interesting program on TV here this week about sugar (Jamie Oliver’s sugar rush). I showed how badly that sugar is affecting children with many young children under 10 losing their teeth. Some were very good at brushing their teeth but lost them anyhow. Many children had diabetes, this is something that I had always thought came as we get older. Luckily even though I was very overweight the best thing I did was not to like fizzy dinks (sodas).

I do 4:3 at the moment as I have started finding it difficult to lose weight now. All was well for 6 months but over the summer I have slowed down more. I shall however not deviate from the path until I have lost some more weight. I hope to be able to continue until I am a healthy weight. Maybe a break over holiday periods with only 6:1, I would like to manage 5:2 if possible.

Join us here and we will be happy to keep you company until you are back maintaining.

    Ginette

    Hi Ginette

I think you keyboard is playing up, I know your weight loss is impressive but your figures make me jump!!!! Lol!

    Hello ladies

I am glad you are all still about was beginning to think you had all retired hehe

Welcome pea Jay we are a good group of ladies on here and if there is any help or advice you need just ask! 6lb gain in 5 weeks is not too bad if you have been on holiday. You have to be able to enjoy these times, this is why this way of life is so good because you can just start up again. You will find we don’t criticise on here we just support each other. I too managed to gain 5lb don’t despair easy on easy off is my mantra.

Have a great weekend everyone keep in touch together we are stronger!

    Audrey

    Hi all,

I’ve been quiet because I’ve been naughty!

Please can someone tell me what to do with all the brambles, apples and wild plums my son and I have picked that does not involve sugar or starches. I have made, jams, crumbles, pies, tarts, chutneys mmmmmm I love this time of year!

    Ginette,
Well done on the weight loss, great work.

Next week is what I have always affectionately called ‘Cake Week’. My boys have their birthdays 2 days apart, so they always need a cake on their birthday which we celebrate as a family, then they will have a separate party/sleepover at the weekend with their friends, which needs another cake each. So 4 cakes, I usually love Cake Week, but I’m dreading it this year … so much temptation. Wish me luck!

    NEmum

    Hi Milena

Yes I worked out what I weigh now with a stone added on. My apologies. It should have read 63lbs lost and about 67lbs left to go. It is so much easier to speak in stones. I was trying to be helpful to Pea Jay to translate (miserably) into lbs. apologies for that.

Next time I will use google to translate weights for me.

    Ginette

    Nemum

Welcome back you have been missed. Enjoy your son’s birthdays these times are precious and soon gone! If you put a couple of pounds on don’t despair you will soon lose it again.

Ginette well done on weight loss you are my inspiration

    Have a good Sunday

    Audrey

    Hi Nemum

I see we were writing our posts at the same time. Yes I have just mentioned elsewhere that plums are 40 calories each so to add sugar to them would increase this. I would use mainly apples and be cautious with the plums, I always use stevia as a sweetener. I would have mine with yoghurt on top. This would cut the calories enormously from using cream and sugar.

I agree a lovely time of the year my Stepmum has a plum tree in her garden as well!!

When you are naughty is when you need to be on here. We can limit that, a bit of freedom is what this WOL is all about, just don’t get carried away with it and you will be fine.

    Ginette

    Hi Audrey

You are so kind. I just try to keep going. It is difficult at times when you don’t lose for two or three weeks, no result for all that effort can be disheartening. I ate about 8 plums the other week hence knowing how many calories they are!!

I don’t usually get a look in as my sone eats them all, I did this year. I shall look in to healthier trees to plant. We have apple as well. There used to be two plum trees in the garden a Victoria and a golden, the end of the garden was sold and with it went the plum tree. So we now only have a golden left.

    Ginette

Hi Ginette, I have the same problems kilos to lbs, I think you added on way more than a stone, you wrote 240 lbs still to lose, that’s 17 stone!

On the other hand 63 lbs lost is bloody amazing, goes to show it doesn’t matter how much we have to lose, even if the figure is absolutely daunting, once figures like 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 gone makes it seem achievable!!!!

    Hi Nemum

Must say I see life very differently – make your jams and chutneys, things that have been made for hundreds of years, made long before obesity was a problem. Ok, lots of sugar maybe, but unless you have a habit of eating jams and chutney by the jar, don’t give up on such wondrous things. You will know what you put in there, which means you can work out the calories, and you know the quality of the things you make.

    Lovely gifts too.

I’ve come to the conclusion that to get thin and stay thin I going to have to eat much much less in the future than in the past – unless I find out my weight gain was due to fall bladder problems – we can onlywish – BUT I can eat better food, and home made wins Hans down over anything in a packet from a shop!!

    Milena,

I am with you on this home made is always nicer than shop bought, I haven’t really stopped eating anything I like whilst doing 5 2 just eaten less. I still make cakes and biscuits just have smaller slice of cake or only 1 biscuit instead. If I had to deny myself food I liked I wouldn’t stuck to this wol.

I am struggling with a lot of hot flushes at the moment, I am wondering if I could also be retaining water as I used to do with periods? Any thoughts anyone? I know when I started with the change I only had hot flushes during that time of the month..

    Audrey.

    Hi Milena

Yes I just keep trying to get to the next half stone, I find these manageable chunks. The whole was far too daunting. I also would like to get to the next BMI category.

I do think a lot about the nutritional aspects of food but from the health perspective. I know that I am not getting enough fibre and that this would help with the constipation so I am trying to add it with the food itself but also with supplements. Also as it happens these will help lower cholesterol and help with weight loss.

    Hi Audrey

I used to like making cakes but them I used to eat them! Now I don’t make anything that is morish or that I would have problems keeping away from. Low sugar, low fat desserts replace these now

Don’t let me anywhere near homemade biscuits or homemade cake!!

    I do have my weaknesses………

    Ginette

    Morning ladies,

Mum did her best to derail me yesterday so I finished my day at around 1200 kcals. I did however do an hrs gardening till my back stopped me so I should have burned some off!

Fast day for me today,I am weighing in on Thursday morning I get home on Wednesday evening.

NeMum let us know what you ended up making. I saw a recipe online for plums preserved in some sort of alcohol perhaps an idea for xmas presents?

Milena hope everyone at your house is recuperating and you are not doing too much.

Ginette if you lived closer I would bring you a small piece of my fruit cake….

    Let’s have a great week ……

    Audrey

Hi yes I too am of a certain age, just been put on HRT as the lack of sleep and hot flushes have left me exhausted. Memory is all over the place and I used to be quite erudite, I now find I am in the middle of a sentence and cannot find the word. I cannot exercise my energy is quite low and I find just doing my chores and the dogs is enough at the moment. Motivation is missing! I used to box and do lots of martial arts… but am now a couch potato.
I am a fan of more or less paleo eating, lots of protein in the morning but switched to Paul Jaminetts Perfect diet and added in small amounts of evening carbs (not refined) a sweet potato or normal one and it made all the difference. I was doing 16 hours not eating and an 8 hour feed window daily and slept well and no morning sluggishness which was awful before. But visitors and the summer mean I have gained a stone and am trying this as a push to shift some.
Re menopause I have always had a tiny waist and super abs my weight always hit my thighs… legs like a second row. But now I have a huge (for me set of boobs) and it is going around my middle, the hormonal change definitely distributes fat differently. I am going to london later in the month to see If a specialist can help as my lovely GP only has an HRT approach and it seems that we have lost more hormones to be taken into account.

    Hi Audrey

Well done on getting through the day.

    Hi Ottoline

Nice to see you hear, this WOL seems to work for me. I know what you mean about the middle though.

Just shout if you need help.

    Ginette

Hello ladies Fairly new to forums but hoping for some encouragement / advice. I am 61 fairly active but not a gym bunny! I have an underactive thyroid and am on medication. Like so many people have tried every diet going but struggle to lose anything. I have been doing 5:2 for 6 weeks now and eating healthily and sensibly on non fast days. I haven’t lost any weight. Trying not to feel disheartened and determined to make this a way of life as I know I must be doing my body some good. A weight loss of even a pound every couple of weeks would be a great boost. Ideas please !

Hi ottoline and elizabethhelen welcome to the forum

Elizabeth I too have an underactive thyroid so can relate to your problems I have managed to lose 20 lbs since Jan this year was 25 but have had a very good summer and put some back on. I have discovered if I stick to 500 kcals on fast days and restrict myself to 1200 on non fast days I lose weight. I weigh everything and log it down on my fitness pal app.I chose 1200 kcals because when I lose my weight this is the number I will need to eat to maintain.

If I manage a work out on the wii fit and stick to my diet I can lose about 1. 5lb a week.

Hope this helps, give me a shout if I can be of further assistance. We are a happy group of ladies here! Once again welcome

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey,
Thanks for your advice. I will cut my calories on non fast days and like you keep a note. Recently started back to aquafit and Zumba so upping my exercise a little.off on holiday soon and while I won’t be following 5:2 ( it’s a long winter here in Scotland so making the most of the sun!) I will be walking more and hopefully swimming each day . Till then I’ll watch the calories more on fast days.
    Thanks again .

    Elizabethhelen

Enjoy your holiday. I am also on the forum fast busting brits come and have a look on there if you like. I know we have some Scottish lasses on there. ..

Give me a shout if you need any help. GOOD LUCK

    Audrey

    Hi ladies
I had a funny day yesterday. I went out for lunch with mum sister and daughter then went to meet my daughter’s new puppy.
For my lunch I had cheese and onion pie and chips it appears I can no longer tolerate the food I used to love because I was quite ill later.
I am due to weigh in when I get home from mums on Friday morning, and apart from yesterday have tried my best to be good food wise despite my mums best efforts to impede me! I usually hop on and off the scales all the time so not to be able to weigh myself at will is very strange but I think I have lost some.

Milena hope you and son are doing ok. Keep in touch.

Hope you are all ok keep on losing

    Audrey

    Hi Ottoline

Nice to see you here. Have you tried metatone tonic, this has been around for years and may make you feel better. This is from many chemists but Sainsbury’s have it on offer for £3 at the moment. It may be worth a go.

Here it is on Amazon, read the reviews they are great and I am going to get some for somebody.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Metatone-Restore-Vitality-Illness-Original/dp/B001E975WM/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1441789637&sr=1-1&keywords=metatone

    Hi Elizabeth

Look up your details on my fitness pal and then enter in goals, it will give you a sensible calorie amount. I never eat up to mine and I have cut out most processed food and cut down on carbs as I really find the stop loss. Also are you gassing what you are eating calorie wise or weighing and looking up. I found the weighing and looking on MFP helped me at first as we can really overestimate everything. Include all milk and any sugar in tea as well. Some foods have a surprising amount of calories in.

Hi Audrey, I hope you get a nice surprise from the scales when you get home x

Hi Nemum how are you doing, remember to keep in touch with the forum as we can celebrate good times with you and help you through bad.

    Have a good day all.

    Ginette

    Hi Ginette,

Thanks for the mentions, I am here or here abouts.
I am not on 5:2 at the moment, but I am being careful and often eating only 200 calories until the evening meal, which is making me feel like I am still in touch with 5:2. I am stressed at the moment, I had a 1 year job contract which ended in August, and have not been able to secure another job. NEdad’s pay does not cover us so I know we’ll have a big shortfall at the end of the month. I’m sure all will work out.

Also I looked in the mirror this morning and I’m sure I had a waist, actually a bit of a shapely waist, pleased with that. But I’m not weighing myself until I’ve been back on 5:2 for a couple of weeks.

Welcome to so many new ladies .. hello! This is a great forum.

    NEmum

NEMum glad you are still around you are being missed.

Hope you get sorted out soon with your job. Will include you in my prayers if you want…

Hope you are soon back with us in 5 2 world… hehe

    Your fast friend

    Audrey

    Hi Nemum

Not having a job is so difficult. I was made redundant last year and the stress of this and another big event in my life made my blood pressure sky high. This is proving difficult to get down, hence 5:2. It has come down from dangerously high to high so I suppose that is something.

I am not allowed to work at the moment and to rest and avoid stress. You do adapt to less money, you have to. I really hope that you find a job quickly as it is always better to work, it makes you feel better as well.

5:2 gave me a wonderful sense of control and helped me get through things. I hope that being on the forum helps you.

    Hi Audrey

    When are you back home?

    Ginette

    Hello ladies

I am home have weighed in and have lost 1.5lb.

Celebrations are in order I think…..first real loss for weeks.

Have a good weekend, fast or feast

    Audrey

Wandering through the various threads in this site and finding this one, thought it might be a good place to sit a while and enjoy the company. 🙂

I started 5/2 a week ago today, having gradually gained a lot of weight over the last 8 years – difficult menopause, 5 ops for various things in under 3 years, and the resulting inactivity caused problems and I am in the obese category with a BMI of 37.

My 5/2 intentions turned into 4/3, really because I felt fine on the fasting days after the first one (which was a bit of a shock to the system!). I weighed myself this morning and I have dropped 4.5 pounds. That’s astonishing, but also very heartening. I’m not sure why it happened though. Most people I’ve read on here say one pound – or less – per week is to be expected. I’m also not sure that it would be good to go on losing at that rate, nice though it would (will?) be to get back to being a svelte size 12.

I’ve enjoyed reading through some of this thread and can I say a special thanks to the person (sorry! can’t remember who it was now) who gave the link to the soup page. I’ll try some of those.
    Elfstone

    Elfstone

Congratulations on your weight loss. Isn’t it great when the scales start to go backwards!

Your weight loss will, unfortunately slow down don’t worry. Make the most of the quick loss whilst it lasts.

Welcome to our corner of the forum, we are a friendly group of ladies here. Sometimes it’s quiet sometimes like a big coffee morning hehe

Keep in touch and shout out if you need any help/advice.

Elizabethhelen how are you doing? Keep in touch.

    Audrey

    Hi Elfstone

Nice to see you here. I would say that in the beginning it is normal to have a big loss, especially as you have done 4:3. As time goes on it slows down.

Yes I was then one the posted the soups, I am always posting links as I like to read about different foods and get recipes, so it is nice to share. Try Heck chicken Italia sausages. They are delicious and filling, also only 36 calories each. They are more line chipolatas than sausages, they just taste meaty to me as I was very unsure of chicle sausages at first. They sell them in Asda and Tescos. I am assuming that you are in UK but of course I could be completely wrong.

    How is everyone else doing?

    Ginette

Thanks audreyg and Ginette K 🙂

I realise that I can’t go on at this rate, but at the moment I feel I can comfortably maintain 4:3 and if I keep doing the HIIT ( to the best of my meagre ability) then I hope to lose the one pound per week that people here and the book talk about. Having said all that, I’m away from tomorrow visiting relatives and I will not have access to the exercise bike and nor will I have much control over what I eat. I may well be back in here a week on Monday with a glum face on. 🙁 Hey-ho; I now know I can make this work and that is such a good feeling 😀

Ginette, I haven’t heard of the Heck brand but next time I’m in a Tesco (the nearest is a ferry journey and 2.5 hours drive away!) I will certainly have a look for them. As I said above I’m grateful for the soup link which I have bookmarked. It’s getting close to soup time anyway and I love making them – heartwarming smells in the kitchen!

    Best wishes to all.
    Elfstone

    Morning all,

Yesterday I made a BIG PAN of stew,it didn’t have much meat but was full of vegetables pulses and beans. I made ten portions which came out at 130 kcal each! I made some dumplings and added 1 to each of my ready meals at 80 kcal each. Isn’t it funny how our diets are changing, previously I would have made it with lots more meat and would have had at least 3, if not 4 dumplings hehe.

Am now busy making cottage pie mix as my grandchildren are coming tomorrow and I need to be free to play when they arrive!

Have a great week elfstone cu back here next week.

    Audrey

    Welcome Elfstone,
Well done on the weight loss, you are right 4.5 is a lot to lose in a week, and nice as it would be to lose that much each week, you will slow down, but what a great start.

Ginette is our lady for posting excellent articles and recipe links to keep us all on the right track, I particularly like my soups for a fast day lunch.

    Ginette
Thanks for the support on the job front, there are 3 jobs just out this week, so I’m going to spend tomorrow doing application forms, so I’m hopeful.

At least I can take control of my eating!

    Happy fasting ladies

    NEmum

Hello…. I am plugging away on the lbs I gained on vacation in July. Now I have 3 to loose to get back where I was before vacation (Diminished from 6 when I returned) yea!. I realized that I also needed to get back to my exercises. For me that is at a gym I have now 2 WKS of gym work behind me.. The regularity of the work outs really changes my metabolism I believe. Walking is always touted as a good exercise if you can do it safely. I find the work out with things I can do and the stretches help my walking ability. I appreciate that, but don’t walk for exercise. I am wanting to remain ambulatory in my 70s decade which I have just entered. That is my challenge. I will face what I face when I reach 80.

I will say sweets are a problem for me on the 5 days I am not fasting. I try not to have much in the house. Still I am tempted when I am out and about in car doing errands. Keep water with me. That helps me be satisfied, BUT there are suggestions in my head that I have to combat that have nothing to do with hunger. I expect that might be a challenge for some of you too?

I agree it is getting to be time for homemade vegetable soups… Yum! Pea Jay

    Pea Jay

I have cravings in my head too, that have nothing to do with hunger. I struggle with that on fast and non fast days like it is my right to do so. I do try to remind myself that I have the right to be normal size aswell, and sometimes that works.

Just a brief one this morning, before I tackle the pile of ironing that I should have done last night, only NEdad persuaded me and the boys to go for a walk at 3pm yesterday afternoon … we got home at 8:30! Gotta love him!

    NEmum

Hi ladies… I’m new here too and been on the 5.2 1 week ago and lost 1kg so far,i’m a ‘certain age’ 50 and need to loose a good 10-12kg i’ve started cycling and also using a home gym, bike and treadmill, i find listening to up beat music helps the time pass quicker and makes it more enjoyable.
This is probably a big mistake but i’ve bought a dress i really like 2 sizes down
and have hung it in the conservatory where i do my exercise to help keep me motivated.
I find a cup of green tea 1st thing in the morning a good start, followed by 1 slice of toast with 2 scrambled eggs or sliced tomatoes sets me up until lunchtime, Lunch is a maxi scultress shake, then around 3pm i have a couple of pieces of fruit until my main meal which is usually a smaller portion than i’d normally eat without the extras like garlic breads, i’m also drinking a couple of litres of water but with lemon slices in.
I did mess up thinking greek yogurt was low calorie so i snacked on a 1kg tub in 2 days, so un did some of the hard work but taking more notice of the calories on foods,i guess every little helps you reach the goal in the end…

    Helloo Ladies,

Love the stories here. Really inspirational – they give me hope!

I have just started 5:2 and have a few days to go before I step up to the scales. When I measured myself, I had a shock attack. HOW did I allow me to get to this stage?? Having measured lumpy bumpy me, I look forward to having less to measure next week.

Question: Do you do the fast days back to back or spread them out?

I have about 30kg to lose (oh yes! I am in trouble!) – would a 4:3 be better to start and then go to 5:2… or stay 5:2 until I need to change it?

Lets keep on keeping on & don’t let the weekend be the weak end of the week!!

Welcome jigglypuff and stingray. It’s nice to see you here!

Jigglypuff when I started 5 2 in January I had a suit for my daughters wedding that was WAY TOO SMALL! When she married in June it fitted me perfectly, sometimes a visual motivation is a dam fine idea, it worked for me so perhaps for you too.

    Stingray

I personally spread my fast days out but others like to do them back to back (B2B). I would start off on 5 2 and see how your body accepts it you can always step up at a later date if your weight loss slows down. Ginette has lost a lot of weight so will be able to advise you better than me but she is tied up with family commitments at present.
This way of life (wol) is very much whatever you want or works for you there is no right or wrong way of doing 5 2 as long as you stick to 500 kcals on fast days and under your tdee on the others.

Good luck to you both, shout out if you need any more help/advice we are a friendly group of ladies

    Audrey

    Hi Jiggly and Sting

30 kilos sounds so much easier than 65 lbs – but you aren’t in any trouble that you can’t get out of, Sting – I think I had that as my target, now over halfway there, and hoping the final might even be 75 lbs! Wishful thinking – perhaps, but if we reach for the stars……

Just give yourself a decent and longterm timescale and then a lot of little targets, little bites, so to speak. 3 kilos at a time, for instance. A few of us have been around for many months and looking to be here for many months more.

Audrey, did you ask here? Yes, this month’s losses, I’m counting as 4 lbs so far, the fifth keeps swaying, all since my enforced loss, so really pleased.

Had a dig around the attic the other day and found some underwear, no recollection of even having some of it – I’m determined to get back into it all. For me, writing down targets – and rewards – seems to work best, and my advice is don’t take your eye off the ball! Have 2 fast days every week, don’t let one slide, and keep measuring. If you have a low TDEE, don’t guess, measure. And don’t beat yourself up if you don’t lose or if you have too many treats, just resolve to have an extra fast day to make up for any backsliding. The maths are you CANNOT lose more than a pound a week, probably a bit less, on average. Be happy for the 2 lbs or more, be happy for ANY loss, be happy if you stand still, and if you gain, tuck in your chin and make up for it, and get back to being happy!!!!

Hope you are all having a great day!!!

Thanks milena, I knew someone would come along with a bit more advice than I can give! HeheHe

Hope everyone is getting better at your house, glad you are back in the groove of 5 2. Not sure what you thought I had asked? I am weighing in on Thursday hoping for a 1 lb loss this week any extra would be accepted hehe

    Your fast friend

    Audrey

Well I have just finished reading the book and started day one today, I am nearly 70 so well away. From the. Menopause… however in the book it says you can eat anything at all in moderation on the no. Diet day but reading your comments this would appear not to be the case, can anyone shed any light on this??

    All ladies + Ginette K & NEmum
Thank you for letting me know your weight loss in lbs, Ginnette. I am quite impressed and encouraged as you must be! This eating plan as I call it is encouraging in itself because you have these days you can eat something otherwise forbidden on any diet. I guess what I like about that is the lack of guilt on those days. On a regular diet I could feel like failure was written on my forehead. NO MORE!!!!
I also know I can’t go crazy on the 5 days either. NEmum I like your answer for the “head desires” I have the right to a normal and healthy body!

    Hi jsc46

You can eat whatever type of food you want on the 5 non fast days but you need to stay below your TDEE. I actually work on 1200 kcals on my non fast days as I think this is the amount I will be able to eat once I reach my goal weight.

    Hope this helps,

Hi pea Jay, it is brilliant isn’t it to be able to reach for previously forbidden snacks and not feel guilty. Enjoy….

    Hi all

Have also been quiet lately. Been reading posts on my email but this thread has not been showing up. Anyway hope everyone is o.k.

Have been sticking to the two fast days but have also had a few sessions of binge eating on other days. I posted on another thread about a book that was recommended to me called “Eating Less – Goodbye to Overeating” by Gillian Riley. I have found it very helpful and would recommend it. I am reading it for a second time as I found its a lot of information to take in and I need time to think about what she is suggesting. Anyway some of you might like it.

I am with you Ginette I have never drunk fizzy drinks. Also I take my tea and coffee black with no sugar. I am going to pat myself on the back for that one. Ha, ha.

    Have a good afternoon everyone.

Oh yes. Just read an article (in the Daily Mail)about BMI and how your shape is what matters rather than the BMI figure. Apples (of which I am one) suffer the most as fat round the middle is the worst. It said that your waist measurement should be half your height and this was a better indication of health. It didn’t tell you how to get rid of the weight around your middle though. My legs are slim now but I still have a lot of fat round the tummy area despite swimming and walking more. Any ideas?

Thanks all for the great feedback.

My fast day went well. TBH my stomach was quite growly by lunchtime and I did have a headache (I have a tendency to get migraines a lot and I have been told by several doctors and a neurologist to eat little & often which has NOT helped matters… IT helped the migraines as I could eat all the time! eeeek), but as soon as I did eat – the sun came out and no more growly bear!

Part way through my supper I did feel like I had eaten a Christmas dinner!! All I had was cottage pie (with celeriac mash!!! First time I tried that… YUMMMMM) I was in the smug zone!

Today I have been quite nervous about the whole eating thing. I am becoming so aware of my “grazing” habit.

Goals – short term : Lose 5 lbs & Stop grazing!

    Have a lovely day!!

Have completed my liquid only day today.

I have spent the day steam cleaning the house and I have also cleaned the carpets with the vax! I am very tired and achey now but I haven’t eaten anything. I have just had a hot chocolate drink and am now getting ready for an early night.

Fran are you about? I am sure you should have had your tests done at the hospital by now I had if in my head it was early Sept please let us know how you are we miss you!

    Keep in touch ladies

    Hi All

I see you have been really busy here, well I am home tomorrow so I thought I had better catch up with everybody.

    Hi Elfstone

Sorry the sausages are so far away, Asda sell them as well if they are any nearer. Are you on one of the Scottish islands?

    Hi Nemum

Any luck on the job front? That was some walk, I am sure that you must have been really tired after that.

Hi Pea Jay, you are well on the way to losing what you gained so that is good, have you thought about cooking popcorn, spraying with butter frylight and tossing with about half a teaspoon of stevia, it might be worth a try. In fact I am going to try these with a little toffee sauce as well. I hope I haven’t started myself off on a fancy!!

There are lots of sweets that you can make if you have a sweet tooth that don’t break the bank calorie wise, I like sugar free jelly and a yoghurt as dessert.

For boiled sweets aniseed balls aren’t high and they take a long time to such, don’t crush though!! Also the same with mint imperials. They also sell sugar free weathers at Sainsbury’s I think.

    Hi Jiggly

Welcome to the thread, Well done on your loss, a dress two sides smaller sounds good motivation, it worked for Audrey. I still have clothes 4 sizes smaller so I will just wear them on the way down.

    Hi Stingray

Welcome to the thread. You are in good company, a lot of us have a fair amount to lose, I would imagine I still have the most to go. I have lost nearly 4 and a half stone (one stone before 5:2). I also still have about another 5 to go. So a long old journey. My advice is to only think about the next half stone and that way it makes it more achievable. So maybe in your case the next 3 kilos. Just stick with it and plod away. You will probably lose more at first and then it will naturally slow up. I always hope to lose a minimum of 4lbs a month. So far I have only missed this target one and usually I have lost more than that. You need to be realistic and give yourself time to achieve it.

I wish you luck and shout if you need help.

    Hi Jsc

You can eat any food in moderation, if you wanted to on a fast day you could eat a Mars Bar, of course this wouldn’t give you much energy and there is nothing in it to nourish you.

You will find that after two or three weeks you start to change your eating habits and tend to eat more healthily. Most peopke have found that they want to lose a little quicker than a pound a week so they make sure that they eat generally nutritious lower calorie foods with some treats thrown in.

If you look on My Fitness pal it will caculate the amount of calories you need to eat up to considering you height, weight, age and how much you have to lose. It sets a calorie goal, for example mine is just over 1500 calories. If you down knead the app you can also calculate the calories that you are eating on fast days and also look up any foods that you don’t know. Some people use this daily, some people use this only on fast days, I use it on fast days and intermittently. I find it helps as I must have completely forgotten all about calories to put on so much weight. Granted over about 20 years. I now occasionally overeat and sometimes have too many treats but I do thee fast days to counterbalance.

I find that I put on weight when I eat more carbohydrates so I try to eat far less now.

    Hi Topsy

If you are on a smart phone and have sent mail to junk instead of trash it treats it as spam. The way to reverse this is to go into the jusi folder restore a message to inbox and then they will start coming through again. I have an iPhone and this happens there. Of course it is brilliant for getting repeat messages you really want to go directly into juk as well.

I have the same problem with they tummy area, one of the last to go I believe. My health trainer told me that exercise would shrink it. I presume targeted exercise. If you go to a gym maybe ask there.

I know mine has definetly gir smaller but if it wasn’t for my tummy I would be in clothes one size smaller.

I am going to join a gym soon, so I will ask there.

    Hi Stingray

Maybe try a bowl of soup to me hunger at bay, either make a quick vegetable soup or maybe weight watchers tomato, a whole can is only 76 calories.

Hi Audrey, do you think it is about time to get the Wii back out? When you have got over your days cleaning. I need to find the motivation again.

    Ginette.

Hi All… Thanks for the suggestions on popcorn and stevia, Ginette. I may try that. We eat popcorn, but I hadn’t thought about sweetening it like kettle corn (a sweetened popcorn). I will say if I lay off sugary sweet things for a while an apple or a ripe peach satisfies that sweet tooth. Right now we have ripe peaches! I can easily eat a whole peach on the 5 and a half peach on the 2. They need no additional sugar.

What I tend to do on the 2 on evening meal is eat two eggs soft boiled and a hot veggie and a cut up bell pepper. Then my husband and I share popcorn and an apple or a peach. He finds TV dinners his favorite. I am a bit concerned that he is getting too much sodium. I need to find some good homemade dishes to break up frozen meals.
