  • Dawg – do you get to curse and pillage like Long John Silver? then its not a bad deal πŸ˜‰

Morning team weigh-in day for most. Well I have to report that my extra efforts didn’t quite get me back into the 69’s. I’m 70.1 so in the vicinity but not bothered at all about it. I know that my trip is most likely going to have me back up a kilo or two anyway…but 5:2 will shift that pretty quick. Doggie I like your idea of cruise control (sounds way better than plateau) so that’s what I’m in too! Forgot to measure again (haven’t done for weeks) try and remember tomorrow.
CG how wonderful that your daughter is going to look after you for a while & no kids will be a bonus for you both – quality mum & daughter time. Luvit.
UT don’t worry remember 5:2 is not our LIFE just a part of it. We have to live our lives as well as doing 5:2 and YEAH you can with 5:2. It will forgive you so easily!
Lotus well done girl so good in this weather to lose 600gr, no matter how long it’s taken you. Atta girl.
SS welcome to our group. Aussie determination will get you there. Stick around & you’ll learn lots & be encouraged & motivated (& give some too!)
4sure great results so far, you’re doing very well. 5:2 is a great WOL (way of life).
Taco not a problem. How was your weigh-in?

Well onto 3 feeding days eh…the pleasures of 5:2. And it’s Friday so that MUST mean a glass of wine or 2 surely?! Going to have a cuppa with my psychotherapist friend this arvo so along with helpful advice that will cover the wine part! Her help has been invaluable. Enjoy your life, your friends, social events etc over the ‘break’ but try to do so in moderation, plan ahead to lower your cals – eg Yes, I’m going out tonight so I’ll have a HB egg for lunch, little things like that all help. Planned treating I call it but it’s portion controlled and it’s not everything that I’ve missed eating. Some today….some tomorrow…some Sunday LOL. Have a great weekend all. suejen XXX
HI to YY Gyps Sarah CM Milena & Missy & anyone I’ve missed.

Nearly afternoon . I am back in the 70’s at 70.5kgs . Have to admit have hit the chocolates again….. found the lollie jar at work this week ! Our lovely clients have been supply thank you gifts. You would think they would know better! OR should one say I should know better.!
Thank the stars I am not at work next week …..will find other ways of curbing the lust of/for chocolate.
    WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS!
Have a happy warm weekend team……….GO GAL XXXXX

    Thanks Suejen πŸ™‚

Sorry everyone, I have only scanned the posts. I just wanted to mention though, that another advantage of this diet, in case no-one else has thought of it, is that by losing weight very slowly, we are less likely to have saggy skin. I am optimistic that will be the case anyway. If we lose weight very quickly, especially if we are older, then saggy skin will be an issue.
It is now the weekend, and I will get more time to read, and will do so.
    Serena.

Yes Serena, you are very right πŸ™‚ fully agree … If only my stomach region wasn’t that wobbly with the lost fat tho πŸ™‚

Hi team. Lotus I may be doing a bit of cussing like LJS but no pillaging! I’ve recently changed from Margerine to butter and was interested to see the comparison in calories. From what I can find it seems as though butter may actually be lower in calories. The only trouble is it tastes so good that I’m often tempted to have more than I should. I made a very yummy Aussie meat pie for dinner last night. No I didn’t count the calories but it sure was tasty. I’ve nothing much planned for today so am going to look up some 5:2 recipes and do some cooking for the freezer. I think it was CG who gave me the tip of writing the calories count on the container.
    XX Doggie.

Hi Doggie, I have only ever eaten butter, as it is natural. I mentioned in another topic that a few years ago I began shallow frying in butter instead of using oil, and I had a sudden unexpected drop in cholesterol as well. People could not understand this, so I tell them it may be because we actually need a lot less if we use butter. Don’t really know the reasons, but I have been encouraged to eat less processed food.
I don’t count calories, just keep a rough idea in my head for the fasting days, that to me, is one of the great benefits of the 5:2 diet. I can’t overeat (well, I have a couple of times!) on the other days, as stomach has shrunk. And my body “tells me off”. πŸ™‚

    SJ, you are right!

I love butter but over eat it so I don’t use it, nor margarine. A few years ago my doc told me to use the cholesterol lowering one although I was only slightly up,(I should have another test now!), but found it really hard to do! I didn’t want to eat more fat and overall calories.

I preferred then and still do now, to use olive oil on everything and fry with canola. On sandwiches I used to use avocado or hummus, sometimes pickles. I still do all that except that I rarely eat bread, because it bloats me, and stick to corn thins or similar. I am not at all opposed to fat, but it makes things taste so good that I have to be mindful. I was brought up not to eat fat on meat etc and to this day I cannot, and my children are the same. We never had cream or mayonnaise in the house when I was growing up. My father at 82, is incredibly healthy and his bloods always confirm this. The doc originally thought he must have been vegetarian. He has lived much longer than any of his relatives because he was mindful of his health from an early age. The only thing he doesn’t do is much exercise, although I think he may use a treadmill daily. If we were out anywhere with mayonnaise, he would say things like “That stuff will kill you!” I am very grateful to him for bringing us up with the right attitude to food.

My problem, and his, was that we ate too large a serving of anything we ate! My weight gain over the years was the gradual kind from 4 children and work followed by too much of the good life, cheese and wine etc. We all know about being too tired to exercise and trying to get dinner that people will actually all eat on the table after a day at work!

I have received lots of comments from people I haven’t seen for a while over the last week. I have had people ask me” Have you lost weight” Yes. “A lot?” Yes. And the most thoughtful one of all, 2 people have also said separately, “On purpose?”

A great reminder, especially for older people to be sensitive, as so many illnesses have the same effect!
I have yet to convert anybody much, but I have planted the seed!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

PS. I have no idea if this is right but I think the way to help avoid the saggy skin is to do a bit of weight training and increase muscle mass a little. Arms NOT tummy! I have yet to take my own advice….
    πŸ˜‰

Hi Serena & Up. Let’s face it butter tastes better by a country mile. Up I applaud you to be able to resist bread. I think it’s my downfall. I don’t eat as much of it in summer though. It’s such a comfort food. Yes I too eat large portions. I think it’s a habit that is hard to break. CG advocates the use of smaller plates which is a good idea. Serena I count calories on FD but not on NFD. I guess that’s why my TDEE is shot. Mind you I have to remind myself that I have lost 10 kilos in seven months so am happy with that. No one has yet told me I’m looking thinner but one lives in hope. Mind you I’m all bulked up with a fleecy top etc and that does not exactly make one look slimmer. As to them loose skin thing. I’m afraid that as we age our skin looses elasticity and everything goes south. Doing tummy tucks etc. may help.
Looks like we’re in for some rain. It’s always welcome as we are on tank water.
    XX Doggie

Up I wish I had some of your willpower. Afraid I even eat butter on corn thins!!!
Almost due to have bloods done again and if cholesterol is not up will continue to do so but will cut back otherwise. Big on non-stick pans so I only use a little of olive oil. Buy fairly inexpensive ($60) ones so I can chuck them when they are no longer non stick and also we were brought up to cut fat off meat. Still like some marbling (sp) in beef though, seems to be more tender. Still prefer most salads without mayo/dressing but some salads need a bit of balsamic and oil dressing. But only a little.
Doggie I only give brief thought to my TDEE. As you’ve already lost 10 kilos you must be doing fairly ok and I can’t totally give up bread, just try to not over do it. Must admit that I feel heavier on days that I’ve indulged and pulled my head in the next day. Probably why I’m stuck in the 57’s!!
Hope all the ADers are enjoying the weekend and CG especially on your ‘girls’ weekend with your daughter.
    YY xx

It is funny isn’t it. I don’t know that I have that much will power. It is just a habit now.

I don’t count calories on non fast days. Some times I must be way over my TDee but other days I would be under for sure.

Doggie, 10 kilos is fantastic and similar to me. You are definitely doing things right. We each have to find our own way within the basic framework. The beauty of 5/2 is that we can cater to our individual tastes! Sorry, that should have been “One of the beauties of 5/2”!

Good morning team! Interesting buttery discussion that is making me think of butter croissants at 5:30 in the morning. πŸ™‚ yummy
I think small doses of butter and other oils are good for skin, especially as we lose lots of weight – to maintain skin elasticity (and also for helping digestion-not sure how that is). I think one way is get pre-portioned butter (westar)? Also Dawg – people do notice but hesitate to sometimes comment ( as someone posted) on weight loss… Someone said to me hesitantly the other day that I “looked well” πŸ™‚

Good morning team, freezing cold winds today, good Sunday to snuggle up with a movie or book and sloth out and stay warm πŸ™‚ I have to come in on the butter debate, I adore it, very heavy handed with it and no guilt. It is a natural, no chemicals as in margarines or spreads and just tastes so so goood! Even with 5:2 we do try to do low cal but to me all dairy should be the “natural” unadulterated type. With most low cal foods we need “more” to be as satiated, where just a small Amount of natual is filling as in yoghurt etc. dash of milk in your coffee, I know this seems to get back to the LCHF issue but it is fact and chemical free (well mostly πŸ™‚ ) Most of us, well those of us in our 60 plusses πŸ™‚ have grown up on the “naturals” before all the new miricle fads came to light and conned us all. And as history has shown, it’s since the low cal “addictive” revolution stormed in, along came the obesity epidemic πŸ™ It may be a slower way to weight loss but certainly healthier in the long run for us all. Even the natural fats on meat, we do eat less, but cutting off the chop tail, or any lean meat, you need more to feel full. All food for thought. I really think going back, as I’ve said in the past, to the way we used to eat, meat and three veg or salad, natural butter or milk, seems to satisfy us better than a low cal dinner which leaves us looking for extras after dinner because we still feel like something πŸ™‚
My daughter, Leah, is going home to her fammily today, golly I’ll miss her, her help and companionship has been incredible, korma chicken with veg and rice last night was oh so yum, plenty of left overs for two more meals will be a blessing through the week for me too. πŸ™‚ My pain became intolerable through the night, so seeing my. Dr. Tomorrow to discuss pain control in the safest way to alleviate my fears of addictions.. I’m not going to be a misery to our thread so wont go on about it, but if I’m MIA every so often, that’s the reason.
I seem to be holding the 4 k over so if that’s all these meds give me I can tackle it when doing 5:2 with Aussie Determination so just holding my own at the moment. With the change in weather to come, more salads, exercise outside, I KNOW I will be back in charge of losing weight and feeling better. My clothes are still comfy so that’s a bonus πŸ™‚ and obviously my heeling is my priority. Have a lovely day with your family team, these are precious times, back to the grind tomorrow, so “live for the moments you can’t put into words” xxxxxxxx

Hi team. CG how great that you had a lovely time with your daughter. Our daughter and son live in Melbourne so don’t get to see them often enough. Having a loving family even if we do not live close to each other is a blessing. My sympathies with your ongoing pain. It’s not often understood by those who have never been afflicted. Should it become a major issue I can recommend the Melbourne Pain Management Clinic. I got great help from them.
Back to the butter and other natural foodstuffs. Yes I agree that the pyramid of advised food to eat had it all wrong. I’ve also started not cutting the fat off the meat before I cook it. That’s where all the flavour is. Once it’s cooked I don’t eat it though.
Cold and wet here too. Not great dieting weather.
FD again tomorrow. They do seem to come round quite often don’t they. I can’t say I enjoy them but do obey all the rules.
Enjoy the rest of the day team.
    XX Doggie

CG, that is awful that it is so bad. I hope you get relief soon!

I just made Thai Red Curry Cauliflower Soup for lunch.
    http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/40743/thai+red+curry+cauliflower+soup

I don’t know the calorie count but it was very filling. I substituted coconut flavoured carnation milk for the coconut cream and it was still thick. Cooked it for myself, husband and son and none of us felt we needed bread or anything with it. Having said that, I can hear my husband down in the kitchen right now…

HI Folks been MIA for a little while. My visit with my psychotherapist friend (with 3 wines – bit of a bonus eh?!) left me quite down yesterday, perhaps just realising how difficult/hurtful it’s going to be re-opening communication with my daughter & SIL. But I’ve sprang back today & feeling better.
CG no good about your pain but glad that you’re going to discuss with your Dr. Holding your weight with all your challenges is grand I reckon. Well done. Hold onto those precious memories with your daughter CG – very special.
Lovely day here so heading out to look over the beach & have our home-made chicken pies. First effort yesterday cooking WITH my OH to get them made in time, after we got home late from a walk. It was quite good having an off-sider Get this out, Mix that up, Chop up the carrots, Stir up some stock, Cut the pastry to fit. Boy I could do with one of those all the time. Halved the prep time I’m sure & they were delicious.
Have a good day all & will check back over the posts later today – butter discussion interesting! Will join in. suejen XXX

Good afternoon everyone πŸ™‚ I have been trying to catch up on the posts I have missed so much and I have just realised that my Friday weigh in post did not go through πŸ™

I lost 400grams of the 800 grams that I somehow gained- so my weight now is 86.45 kilos.

Sujen , Dawg and Lotus , congratulations on your weight loss.
CG – I hope you see the doctor or specialist soon and that the awful nerve pain goes away.
Milena – I’m sorry to hear about your fur baby πŸ™ you are in my thoughts, also Milena and Lotus , your bitchy MIL make me mad, age is no excuse.

    Newbies, welcome.

Happy fasting to those fasting and if you are not fasting tomorrow ; I wish you a happy healthy choice day xx

Hey Guys, just a quick question. I’m going in to give blood tomorrow, do you think it’s wise to fast if I’m doing that? I know that each blood donation is like 600 calories or something large like that. I’m thinking I should be ok so long as I drink lots. Has anyone else here done this before?

Sarah I can’t remember whether we have had this conversation about FD’s and giving blood but don’t think I’d do it on a FD. Some of the nurse ADers may be able to give better advice.

Yep, butter sure tastes better than man-made muck πŸ™‚

Taco 400 is a good loss. Always pleased with myself if I make it. Forgot to add my loss of 300 to my last post, still a yo-yo thing for me just can’t seem to break the 57.3 barrier. Think I need to vary exercise routine a bit as I don’t think I can cut back any more on FD’s. Like you Up, I sometimes go well under TDEE and over other days so think it all balances out as long as I listen to what my body is saying. Like the bloated mosquito, Pull out, Pull out!!!!! πŸ™‚
    YY xx

YumYum – 300 a gram loss is awesome, my loss was on my 800gram gain in one week. I am also stuck but I’m stuck at 86kg πŸ™‚ I am sure that eventually I will move away from the dreaded 86kg. I have thought of doing a third fast – just thought about it but it does not appeal πŸ™ I like feast days and the 2 days are doable for me.

Sara , perhaps you could call your doctor in the morning or otherwise ask the people at the blood bank

I don’t think you should give blood and fast. My daughter doesn’t. She has low something or other and is badly affected by giving blood but you are right that liquid is the main thing. I think you need to be able to eat something afterwards. Can you change your fast day?

Hello everyone, I have been MIA for quite a few months now so don’t faint all of you who know me and may have missed me! Too many posts to catch up on, so will start fresh from this page…..have struggled to maintain weight let alone lose over winter…..I’ve put on 2.5 kgs since April…..have still fasted twice weekly (but caved on a few) but have been really, really bad on non-FDs…..well truthfully bingeing a bit…..I really need to get a handle on it….had the same thing happen last winter….so….I’m going to check in here again and get accountable….I know I’ve still lost 18 kilos, but I feel so uncomfortable just gaining back 2 and a bit….

CG, you have had your surgery by now? Wishing you a speedy recovery and I hope you can sort of the pain. xxxxxx

Thanks guys, yeah I can change my fast day to Tuesday, probably work better anyway as Im home with the kids Tuesdays so easier to fast. I think I knew it wouldn’t be a good idea – seeing as I do work in hematology too i should have known lol. Guess I just needed to hear it from a few other people, didn’t want to change days in case it looked like I was chickening out. Quite the opposite Im looking forward to my fast days now. I go to bed with a comfortable “skinny” tummy, my head feels clearer too.
Tacofox don’t stress about gaining on this diet, peoples body weight fluctuates regardless of their size or if they are dieting its normal. I’m sure the scales will trend downwards in the bigger scheme of things πŸ™‚

Foxy how great to hear from you again – my WA mate! I’ve missed you. Yep we’re all struggling at the moment with winter plateaus & over feeding of comfort foods and the like on feed days. It’s so much harder. But some of us are still losing and the rest of us maintaining – which is way better than gaining over winter. Still a win I’m sure.
You’ll lose that 2 kilos on no time once you get back in the swing of things. And that won’t take you long.
Welcome back & stick around…we’re very happy to have you back. suejen XXX

    Hi All!
Going to do a quick post now because it takes so long to get on here at all and I’m afraid everything will shut down if I try to go back and read the pages I missed.
CG – sorry to hear that you are still in so much pain, it’s just not fair! I’m glad you had your daughter with you for a while to give some much needed TLC and I hope the doctor can sort your pain issue.
Foxy – good to have you back!
SJ – hope your family difficulties improve soon and I’m glad to read you’re keeping positive.
Up, Taco, Lotus, Milena, GG – it’s lovely to read all your posts. Hope Gypsy still around too. Sorry I can’t get to know the newbies very well because my opportunities to check in are so hit and miss. I hope I’ll be able to go back and read all the news after I post this. I managed to lost the 1.5 kg I had put up the week before last but put it all back on last week….to much fab food and drink over here in France!!! I’ll have to be more disciplined this coming week because I’ll be here for another three weeks and I don’t want to go home a miserable blob!!
Take care everyone, and happy 5:2ing!!

Good morning team, bitterly cold weather so fasting is not easy BUT doable. Lots of hot drinks, warm foods, calculated leftovers, warm your hard boiled egg in a mug of hot water poured over it πŸ™‚ Try to stay away from shops which sell hot foods, the oils/fats they use smell amazing on cold days and beckons you to buy πŸ™ Tomorrow is not far away and you CAN have that toasted sandwich with your soup but NOT today. Hot fluids, soups, teas, hot chocolate are all savours and not always what the eyes/nose or even the brain wants, but they DO satisfy the tummy on cold days. YOU CAN DO THIS remember, it’s what you do today that rewards you further down the track. No ” buggar it’s ” today, let that AUSSIE DETERMINATION kick in and win for you πŸ™‚
Welcome back Foxy, I’m glad you have come “home” for the help, love and support here that we offer πŸ™‚ I hope all has settled with the few problems you had so you can now start thinking of YOU again πŸ™‚
Well, got a bit more sleep last night, so feel a tad more rested, looking forward to seeing my Dr today and well armed this time with a list of questions to put me in the picture of knowing what to expect. Very cross no info was given prior to the op…but than again…I would still have gone through with it as it was just so needed, for the first time in years, no back pain and I’m walking upright, no stooping at all, so going along the path of frustration with heeling and looking forward to an active pain free future. Oh to play in my garden this summer yoohoo πŸ™‚
Today IS the first day of the rest of your life team, be kind to yourself, set the boundries that you can stick too. Over expectations only set you up to fail. Our life time achievements are like the rungs of a ladder, let’s just get to one step at a time πŸ™‚ Positive vibes to you all xxxxxxxxx

    Welcome back Foxy!
    Hello again Fit!

I was struggling a bit today with just liquid fasting, but CG, your post really helped me… So, with great Aussie Determination…onward ahoy! Will try to go for liquid fasting if not, aim for 500 calories.

Foxy, great to see you back! I was just thinking of you the other day when looking at the recipe thread.
As someone has already said, most of us are struggling at the moment, don’t feel bad, feel determined! I know how demoralising it is to put a bit back on but these things are only ever temporary. For most of us this is a long term thing and we know it works and it will for you.
Spring is almost around the corner, hang in there.

I have been hovering around the same weight for a few weeks now, I go up a little and down a little although it is mainly due to social stuff. I am so looking forward to the warm weather, everything is easier then. If I can maintain now, I will be happy and make inroads again later, I will be more than happy.

CG, fingers crossed that you get some good answers today!

    Taco, stress not. See above!

Fit, everyone told me to enjoy food when I was away so I should tell you that. I think you should do whatever suits you. For me, it was to enjoy myself as healthily as I could and to make wise choices when I could but at the same time not miss trying special things. I don’t like the feeling of letting myself down. The main thing though is that when you decide to eat something, don’t feel guilty about it! Own your choices and deal with the results when you are back home and on the straight and narrow. And relax, it is not do or die as I sometimes need to remind myself. A few weeks off is neither here nor there in the greater scheme of things.

I think everybody on here has had or are having their off times, whether it be trips, surgery, weather, crises etc.
It is all part of the journey folks and every single one of us is doing so well. We just have to look back at where we were when we started. πŸ™‚

Hi all, yes I’m here Fit, Just not terribly motivated, bored with the domestic focus on life ATM. but like CG sez, ‘the things we do today set us up for tomorrow’ (Ha!- sez I, sucking on lemonized tea – If life gives ya lemons, make lemonade! ) but living is definitely a mood thing. I’m dragging my tail today, so glad you are sounding less stressed.

CG, hope you get some let up on the pain, sounds like they fouled up your sciatic nerve complex to me. I’d be hightailing it back to the surgeon for answers. given that some residual pain can Be persistent and wear you down, it shouldn’t be still at the level of requiring ongoing morphine at this stage, nor is that a satisfactory treatment. (doesn’t do a thing to stop neuro spasm, just your brain’s perception of it) and anti-spasmodics are a specialist’s call. Your GP should at least be conferring with the Neuro bod, or referring you back to him asap. (how long til your post op surgical check up? I trust you do have one for 6 weeks post-op?).

Great to hear from you, foxy, I can relate to the same seesawing slump. I haven’t been losing for months, just up and down a few kilos )84 -86ish) so it looks like winter is just a maintenance exercise for me.

SaraMCK, definitely no fasting with blood donation, mate. Good on you for being a donor tho. glad you’ve joined us.

UP, Dawg, Sujen, Taco, yummy and Lotus, I hear you all and try to read up.I just don’t have much joy to contribute, so why spread the lead!) pardon the pun, but I’m such dead lead trudging, lately. trying to shake the cloud of impending doom. We head to the city tomorrow for the first leg of the next round. The Leprechaun’s MRI . and a gastroscopy a week later, then its a waiting game again while the cancer team have their meetings etc…. Oh the joy of being on this end of it instead of in their midst keeping them on track! (if only I didn’t bloody know the nitty’s of the system and triage of patient viability versus resources! At 73, with an Irish thirst, he’s on the edge of the dice! and such stress is not conducive to sitting primly on the wagon! If ya’ get my drift… I have not had a ‘fair suck of the sav..’ recently. Bah! and still not getting skinny as a reward! …. on the bright side, himself is looking quite healthy. (why don’t I feel the joy of success if all i8t takes is being a good little sober housy support person?) Yep definitely some witch in my ancestry….. (so u see if I’m absent for a bit, you’re not missing anything good. ) cheers! gyps ….. grump….. better go polish the effing halo… Again!

Poor Gyps!! Go polish that halo dear. And after that, you can very much stand on the Moral High Ground and look at the rest of us un-sober folks down your nose πŸ˜‰ Think how superior you will feel πŸ™‚

Oh Gypsy, my heart goes out to you, often it’s worse for family than the patient as with you. It’s all so time consuming waiting for answers even a guide to a path you can follow. You post as often as possible, let it out girl, don’t you dare bottle it in, we are here for you and well expect tough days to follow, but you share that pain my friend!
Seeing my surgeon next Friday for follow up, but seeing my GP, just back from 3weeks in SriLanka (and he is a Pom so can understand him) the others I’ve seen was a conversation of constant “pardons” so will get clear answers today πŸ™‚ The pain is the best today it’s been from the beginning, I slept better last night, and they DO give 6 weeks for this to settle so the timing is pretty spot on (in week 5 now) Sure I still get the electric shocks and apparently can do for some time to come from months to years, from what I have read. One day at a time,,I’m impatient and expect to be getting into things, and lazing on the couch doesn’t come easy to my go get it nature πŸ™ but doing as I’m told, well best I can. πŸ™‚ This Dr had the exact op some time back so will be quite in tune with what I’m going through and what to expect. He did say in the beginning it took close to 12 months to be totally over it so …………
So team on with the fast, hot drinks, LaZuppa cup a soups (I add a hand full of baby spinach to mine for some body) chop it up finely first of course πŸ™‚ grab some hot chocolate to feel not so deprived, but count your cals team…..remember this is our life time path, not the quick fad, miracles do happen but with patience xxxxxxxx

G’day team. Gypsy good to see you back and commiserations re your OHs health issues. It’s not easy being on the “other side” when one is a health care worker. Hang in there mate and yeh go polish that halo. This AD must admit to not having been on the wagon. I do enjoy the old glass on vino on NFD. This is no doubt why my weight loss has plateaued. But as I’ve said before, I don’t want this way of life to become something resent and be tempted to ditch it.
So FD here too. It’s also B cold but we were able to get out and have a lovely long walk with Pepper the pooch. I’ve recently bought him a new red collar with matching lead and he looks very smart in it with his pitch black coat.
Well it’s HB eggs for lunch and then th old faithful BE fish plus steamed veg for dinner. I usually give OH the same but add a nice hot spud with butter for him. – I then look on in envy as he eats it! Will also do as CG suggests and go for the hot drinks.
CG I agree with Gypsy that your sciatic nerve is playing up. I hope you get some resolution to your pain.
Suejen is it you who is the librarian ? I ask because I’m looking for some new authors / books. I enjoy the Kate Morton type of books.
Up enjoy France. All that yummy French food.
    XX Doggy

Dawg – just wondering if you could roast some cauli for yourself (no butte, but maybe light spray of oil?) so you don’t get “spud envy” at dinner time πŸ™‚

Great post again from our research office ….Lotus, a good read xxxxx

Thanks CG, well at least it spurred me to stick to my herbal tea for lunch instead of a soup πŸ™‚

HI Fit lovely to hear from you. Please enjoy some French food and just decide to deal with it later. But I agree that you don’t want to feel like a miserable blob! But seriously 3 weeks won’t put that much weight on – not if you’re making good choices in between some yummy french food. Try to balance it out when you can by choosing a salad eg when you can.
Doggy I was a teacher so no, not a librarian just love books.Closest to Kate Morton’s would be Paullina Simons but you’ve probably read them. Jodi Picoult’s? Loved these: Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay; The Quiet Girl by Peter Hoeg (also wrote Smilla’s Feeling for Snow, both fabulous); The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski (my alltime favourite but can you read a sad animal ending?); Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathon Safran Foer. Thaty’ll do yer!

Well onto another FD. Didn’t feel like the HB egg today so CG tried your trick of the milky coffee to start the day. HB egg for lunch & then tassie salmon with vegies for dinner. Will be simple meals this week trying to use up what’s in the fridge before our holiday. Ooh exciting news re our visit to the USA next year to meet our grandaughter. We registered with home exchange & someone from Mexico (good safe area!) asked us if we could exchange 11 days in December in our home for 2 weeks in theirs next year. So we have 2 weeks free accommodation with a car (& a maid & a gardener!) in a 2 story fabulous place in a gated community. They’re going to find our house a bit modest in comparison!! Never mind they’ve seen pics so must be OK with it. Now need to find some for San Fran for our month there. Coming together. suejen XXX

Another good article from the FastDay site re plateaus/not losing:
    https://www.fastday.com/fasting/why-am-i-not-loosing-weight-with-intermittent-fasting/?utm_source=FastDay+Emails&utm_campaign=14af4666a0-Weekly_Newsletter_10_23_11_14_11_22_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_103abfb096-14af4666a0-310025349

Finishes up with this tip: “If you think you might be drinking a little too much, consider cutting down your alcohol intake on some days, particularly the day before a fast.” Interesting. XX

Suejen how wonderful regarding the house, wouldn’t worry about the modesty, people travel for the area and comfortable accomodation, and who wants to be cleaning house when they can get out and about πŸ™‚ xxxxx
Fit, totally agree re food choices, you are in the midst of a wonderful experience so enjoy it for what it is, no restrictions, why spoil a holiday, 5:2 will look after you when you return πŸ™‚ xxxxxxx

Interesting read suejen, thank you for sharing xxxxx

really great article SJ! Also, well done on getting the great deal on your holiday home πŸ™‚

Sweet eh…only trick is they had planned 2-4 days in our area (rest in WA) but they’ve decided they like the sound of it so much it’s the whole 11 days they have – and we have to find somewhere to stay. Don’t want to back out as we want their place for 2 weeks! Can’t go away as I’ll still be working the buses. Will see if we can house-sit for someone on our online community noticeboard. Where there’s a will there’s a way eh! XX

Now I’m lost, thought you were swapping each others for the same time?

Sorry CG confusing I know. It’s called a non simultaneous exchange – you can do simultaneous or non ie later date. They asked first re Dec 2015 so we asked re next Mar/Apr 2016 as our exchange & they said yes. XX

Oy Suejen, I’m in the West. What am I, chopped liver?? πŸ™‚ But seriously, welcome back Foxy we need all the help and support we can get during the winter months.
Lotus good article, thanks. Will roast some cauli myself to have with our steak tonight while my OH has his potato – good idea. Guess I do mainly liquids until dinner myself, mostly so I can eat more normally at night and also am finding HB eggs give me heartburn lately. I’ve also been having an apple after my main meal on FD so it keeps everything moving along nicely πŸ™‚
Fit as CG said go for it and let 5:2 take care of you down the track. Also know from your posts that you make pretty good choices usually so won’t be too much of a blow-out.
Doggy Pepper sounds very dapper with his red collar and lead. Try some Judith Cutler books or even Elizabeth Peters (Amelia Peabody) ancient archaeology series for a good tongue in check read.
CG hope to hear you and your GP solve the nerve paid thingy soon. Awful for you.
Gyps, thinking about you heaps and don’t hesitate to dump when the need arises friend.
BTW Milena are either you or your OH divvies?
    YY xx

Not really liquid fast today but came to 350 calories all in…

Good evening πŸ™‚ I have been trying to catch up on posts – I’ve had one of those days today πŸ™ I’m at around 480 cals but I still have a few more hours of the day to go.

CG- I hope these doctors get you sorted asap , thank you for your inspirational post

Suejen, Up, YumYum, Dawg , Lotus and Sara- thank you for your advice and kind comments πŸ™‚ I am trying not to stress. Suejen, I have read the article you posted, perhaps I’m overdoing it on my non skinny days πŸ™

Gypsy – I’m praying for you and OH xxx
