    Day 16 UK FD

Today is feeling positive and slightly energised despite the full-on weekend. Maybe bc the sun is shining and it feels warm out? lovely change after a week of heavy rain and dark skies.

I had an early start straight into webinar for a course I’m doing but thanks to Past Me everything was lined up and ready to rock 🙂 Today’s installment was a masterclass in spoken comms skills for senior leadership. It was supposed to be a seminar but only half the contingent could make it, which made it more fun tho hard to hide!

My laptop emitted a loud buzz throughout – thankfully only audible to me – but it’s now fixed! I’m so happy with the local computer repair place who fitted a new fan and thermal paste within 15 mins. And it turned out to be run by someone I knew as he used to drive me in his minicab! I’ll now be trekking down with my old laptops for repair, most of which can hopefully then be used by local charities.

I celebrated laptop repair with a quick shop for lunch: cottage cheese + crudites – red pepper, carrot, cucumber. I do like my picky bits of mix and match textures/flavours, and having an active lunch – choosing, dunking – makes me eat more slowly and feel satisfied. My FD are usually OMAD supper but I’m trying to shift my eating to earlier in the day, and have a board meeting 6-7.30. I’ve got another zoom at 3pm then hopefully time to start a small batch dahl – butternut squash and sweet potato, with spinach, peas and split red lentils – and catch up with emails while it cooks.

I remember from last time round finding it so helpful to name my food here – it encourages me to plan ahead and gives me a sense of accountability. And meanwhile enjoying watching the sparrows eat at the feeder just outside my study window.

    Sending strength to today’s fasters!

    Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 162.8

All I did for the last 4½ days was cook, eat, drink, clean, and repeat. I was sure every day that I’d be up five pounds. I’m purely gobsmacked that the efforts I was making to behave on some level were apparently successful, putting me up only two pounds over last Wednesday’s post-WFD weight. Plus, having three littles in the house meant I was–we all were–on the move rather constantly. I maintained my usual ZBC choice, ate lunch and a lovely dinner every day, but did very little snacking, so I’m sure that detail was helpful. Oh, and DD, DS27 and I made macarons on Friday; she’s become quite skilled at them, and DS27 and I were learning from her; they were a lovely, lovely treat, but I didn’t go nuts nibbling on them. So we’ll see what my two WFs this week do to the weight.

The visitation on Wednesday evening and the service on Thursday morning were lovely, with all sorts of friends and relatives present, and I got to hold baby Mae throughout the Thursday church service–my favorite memory, LOL. We had every member of the family there, from MIL’s four kids, the four spouses, their kids and their grandkids, and that added up to exactly 50 people. So before everyone headed home after the luncheon, we got a family photo; what a treasure!

We got home around 3pm on Thursday, and then the real fun began with all 9 of us: DS32, DD31, DS27, DSIL32, DGD4.95, DGD2.5, and baby Mae. My heart is filled to have had everyone here all day Thursday and Friday, and then again for church on Sunday (the boys went home to their own beds on Friday night because they had work on Saturday). And then they were all gone by 12:45 on Sunday, and I was only a tiny bit heartbroken, because I was ready for our usual quiet, LOL! Sadly, it was interrupted by a two hour meeting DH and I both had to attend, but we’re good friends with all of the people who also were at the meeting, so it was a pleasant time, and then we got to come home and be ALONE. 🤣😂😉🤷🏻‍♀️👍⭐

Today’s goal is to return the house to the perfectly tidy condition it was in before everyone showed up.

I’ve read all the posts, and was glad to read of the progress so many of you are making; I’ll be back to my usual responsive chatter tomorrow.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Morning All…
    Having a relaxing time…
Weekends can be a busy and stressful but it’s not been too bad. I suppose you forget the comings and goings of teenagers..

House all quiet two gone two to go…

Cole is working in a workout food health shop, he lifts weights so knows all about it. It’s not very busy so he can study and do homework as and when. Katie didn’t really know if it would work but his grades are exceptional, he worked 10 hours on Saturday. He likes his own space.

Quiet time now with Katie not sure what we are doing today as yet..

34 degrees each day very hot for me, I sit under a pagoda in the garden under a big fan reading which is nice. Each day hoping for clouds 😂

Some lovely photos of Charlie he seems fine.. I am missing him.
I walk Maxi everyday going on a different route this morning having a nosey looking at some lovely big houses. It’s lovely here as there’s paths we share with bikes and joggers, off the roads and under trees, very much like Germany, they go for miles.

Well number three is up I shall go make a cuppa, then go out with Maxi.

  • Leukocytes on a urinalysis test

Hi. 16th September. NFD. I’ve been on the 5:2 diet for about 8 weeks and have lost 10lb. Brilliant! I was interested to see if fasting produced ketones in a urinalysis, it didn’t, but it did show positive to leukocytes. Is this to be expected? I’ve repeated it a few times and leukocytes are positive after a fast day but not after a couple of Non fast days. Hope someone has an idea why this is. Thanks

    Day 16 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 236 lbs. I’ve had lingering congestion and some breathing issues since my illness about a month and a half ago. Since it was a virus, I was waiting for things to clear up, but things have been slow. I have a busy week and a half ahead, but if things don’t start improving significantly during that time, I’ll make an appointment. I heard a lot of people who’ve fallen ill in recent weeks have this lingering crud for weeks on end.

I’m not in the mood for a FD either, hoping stubbornness will see me through. Omelette and greens for brunch and chicken with green leaf salad for dinner…..non negotiable!

@funshipfreddie thank you for the low carb info, a good and timely reminder of what I know……I eat too much fruit and need to do some swaps for vegetables.

    Day 16 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.2 kg

Another good fast day over with, & +12,000 steps clocked up. That’s the 4th time in a row I’ve weighed 70.2 after a FD. So I’m either doing something right or my scales are broken 🤔

@penz – I’m NEVER in the mood for a FD. But it’s got to be done. What’s that phrase? ‘Feel the fear & do it anyway’. Although ‘fear’ probably isn’t the right word. ‘Feel the hunger & do it anyway? Sometimes I just add hot water to a teaspoon of chicken stock powder for an instant cup of soup. The salt & flavour is more satisfying than tea or coffee, & it’s only about 6 cals. I deactivated the Fitbit notifications; that buzzing got old very quickly 😅

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Good Afternoon everyone

Monday FD today, it’s 1:20 pm and so far an easy FD. Not as busy at work but still busy enough to keep me occupied and distracted. Haven’t felt hungry at all today so far.

I thought you might be interested to hear this. So last week after my double dose of Miso soup I thought I should check how much sodium I had consumed for the day. It was close to 3000 mg which is WAY too much! The next day (Thursday morning) when I weighed myself I had not lost anything at all from the FD. I believe this was all to do with the excessive salt I had the day before. So, yes Cali I think salt plays a huge part in our weight loss, well what the scales say anyway. This is the interesting part – Thursday was a normal eating day and then on Friday morning I had lost 200g on the scale.

Suzy, you are right. We need to learn how to deal with those difficult FDs and listen to our bodies. I agree with LJ in that it’s better to continue with the FD and go a little bit over in calories than to give up. I feel like if I give up once then it makes it too easy to just give up next time I am finding it a bit hard. Like thin says, nothing will happen if we feel a bit hungry.
    We can do this 🙂

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Mine was really good. We went to Canberra and were there for the opening of the Floriade festival. The flowers were beautiful and the displays amazing. It’s something I have wanted to do for a long time now so it was good to finally get there!

Friday night, we went to a Lebanese restaurant for dinner. The food was really delicious and to top it off the service was excellent too. We had a banquet for two which of course means way too much food! Luckily they gave us some takeaway containers to pack all the uneaten food into which we then ate for breakfast the next morning. One bad thing, we already had the strongest garlic breath from dinner so having the same for breakfast just made that doubly bad!! Ha ha ha .

Well I better get back to work. Hope you are all having a lovely day. If you are on a FD with me, hope it’s going easy for you x

    Day 16, FD, Aus

I am so not in the mood for a FD. Despite the beautiful weather we’ve had lately, it got down to minus 6 at 6am. (Celcius.) And I always feel cold on a FD. So I think I will give myself permission to have some soup for lunch.

I’m yet to head outside for a walk with the dogs (they are snoozing in a patch of sunshine) but my Fitbit is buzzing me to move. So I better!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Morning all

I had a bad weekend, eating-wise. I didn’t go crazy on the calories, around 2500 per day, but I just made poor food choices and ate way too much bread and sugar. I’m going to try back-to-back fasts today and tomorrow to hopefully mitigate the effects.

I think it was probably the weather that prompted the carb binge, it was cold and wet all weekend, so I didn’t get out of the house all weekend, and I think I was just eating out of boredom.

I hope everyone else had a better weekend than I did.

    Day 15 UK NFD
    Day 14 NFD

Full on Saturday with early start out for community breakfast then trek across London for friends’ 25th wedding anniversary party. I enjoyed home-made oat bread at breakfast time then a scrumptious dark chocolate brownie and 3 glasses of champagne at the party! But the 2hour trek meant it was a long journey and short party – enough time to chat, eat, drink, listen to speeches but not dance.

Today is all about rest. I’ve found somewhere local to fix my laptop – the fan has been buzzing almost non-stop despite cleaning – and hoping to fit that in between zoom calls tomorrow. Fingers crossed because I’m very laptop dependent, especially at this time of year with meetings/conferences etc.

I weighed and measured yesterday…. the scales are down a little but I finally realised they’re unreliable – mechanical scales whose readings vary depending on which bit of the floor they’re on! So using them as a general indicator and measuring… Since I started on Day 2 I’ve lost 1″/2.5cm from my bust and .7″/1.8cm from my hips, but my carbatastic stomach is down by a whopping 2″/5cm! Still a long way to go to get to where I was last Sept but it’s heading in the right direction. Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.

After a LONG sleep and a lazy morning I’m off to break my fast with some light emmental cheese and an apple… avoiding the starchy carbs today to make tomorrow’s FD easier.

@funshipfreddie thanks for the update on @daffodil2010. Hope to see her back soon

    @metatauta welcome back

Wishng you all a sabbath rest

Good afternoon everyone just having a break from the sun, I looked at my door bell camera and it’s pouring down in Manchester.Roasting here. Been round the local market this morning then went for a picnic on the front.I am amazed how many mobility scooters there are here. Outside the market there must have been 100 of them all parked up.Everytime I go out 10 or 20 pass you on the pavement. Their are not cheap, something like €40 for 4 hours.

Hello, all! After a longer than planned visit, I am back from my visit to my daughter and grandchildren. All is well, and looking forward to at least one more trip before the winter. I have been researching the carnivore diet and find it to be very interesting for lots of reasons. Dr. Ken Berry has some great videos about it. Ive been either OMAD or eating 2 times a day only, but I always wind up having a few light beers at the end of a long day, which relaxes me. Need to find another habit to replace that! I’m sure I lost weight since I last posted, but will double check at the beginning of the work week.

Jean- lovely to be seeing the family, sounds interesting at the football game…have a good time!
Dave- sounds like you’re enjoying your holiday too! Nice to go out & about…good you can have a cuppa now! I wonder if the cat will stay with your son?
Nana- well done losing your pound! I’ve kept pages from writing down my food too…Not at all sad going to the same place, we go back to Sheringham lots, we love it there! I hope the painkillers help your knee 🤗
    Hemmy- hope you’re okay?
Been chilly here but sunny, had nice walks with Xena, cleaned my car inside & out yesterday, Xena makes such a mess in it! Did some cleaning today, & saw mum this afternoon, she’s put on every one of her storage heaters, it was sweltering! Good job she doesn’t need to watch the pennies…

I’m still experimenting @funshipfreddie I aim for <50g Mon – Thurs and relax a bit at the weekend , but as @flourbaby says the mixing might not be ideal but the scales are moving ( very slowly ) in the right direction so I’ll keep with it for now – I just use MFP but only recently discovered you can change the limits and macros

We may be a small group this month but the vibe seems good and I’m sure we’ll all have some success 💪Have a good Saturday everyone

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Morning everyone, have had a good week and managed to lose one of the two pounds gained.I would’ve probably lost two but I enjoyed a meal out Thursday evening with my old workmates.
Hedgehogs I have a book that I record my food in daily , wish I didn’t need to have to record daily but it seems I do.
Geraldine is a lot of fun to get out on now ,last Wednesday it was quite windy but with the pedal assist I just pedalled along as if it was a calm day – OH really struggled and not surprisingly has decided that he needs a new electric bike for himself and to be fair his current bike is over 10 years old. As he’s 76 and I’m 73 we really want to enjoy being able to cycle and enjoy it still.
Dave and Jean sounds like you’re both enjoying your holidays.
We’re off to Sheringham on Friday for a week we’ve been going and staying in the same accommodation twice a year for getting on for 10 years which some people might think is sad we really enjoy ourselves there. Plenty of nice walks which we both enjoy except my left knee which starts to give me a bit of grief after a couple of days but hopefully a one off prescription of strong painkillers given to me by our practice nurse at my doctors will help. I was having my yearly medication review with her and asked what I could take as paracetamol wasn’t very effective. We shall see.
Hope everyone else is keeping okay and that everyone enjoys their weekend.
    Nana xxx

Sounds good Jean enjoy. I feel a little sunburnt, must have missed a bit on my shoulder when I put the cream on. Put extra on today because it’s going to be hot again. We have entertainment on in the hotel every night so we have been going to see it. It’s been ok plus we don’t need to get taxi home 😁.We have a cat art our house, it’s been there almost a week and for some reason stays outside our house,my son rang the cat protection league and they said they would come round and scan out but wouldn’t take it away. They said don’t feed it but the poor things had nothing all week so my son bought it food and gave it a drink. It’s been cold at night in Manchester so he was going to bring it in last night, don’t know if he managed to do it. I’ll ask him later.

@flourbaby – I didn’t eat any fries, & I had only one slice of toast 😇 I’m aiming for 70 – 80 g net carbs per day. But some things are not negotiable. I WILL have my daily apple, one slice of toast with lunch, & a couple of squares of dark chocolate.

@missybear – Most fruit isn’t advisable on low carb, especially bananas & grapes. They’re loaded with sugar, & unfortunately your pancreas can’t tell the difference between ‘natural’ & refined sugar. One medium banana has about 24 g net carbs. They say berries are okay in small quantities. Oats are really high too. One cup of cooked oats = around 23 g net carbs. Here’s a really handy beginner’s guide for a low-carb diet:-
    https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb

@excelsior12309 – I never eat breakfast either. But I do eat ‘breakfast food’, usually around noon.

@michelinme – forgot to mention – @daffodil2010 disappeared mid-December for about 3 months, then posted a few times in March & April. She mentioned some big electrical fault at work had forced her to work from home, & she wasn’t enjoying it. I think she still reads posts though, & hopefully she’ll be back soon.

Night All just going to bed…

A good flight and settled in now. Just popping about locally.
We visited a small tourist I suppose village, a couple of coffee shops, a few eating bar type places. Quite a lot of quaint shops. I couldn’t really understand it as there’s no tourists here !
It was interesting in its own way.

Katie and I went to the High School football match, lovely to see it all, they had the Band, High Steppers and Cheerleaders, they know how to put on a show.. Highlands our team won too..so noisy and exciting.

I took my watch to be serviced, hoping it’s ready for collection tomorrow ..in the UK it was going to take 6 to 8 weeks. Katie found a lovely watchmaker. He told me there’s hardly any in the UK it would have been sent away. It took him 9 years to learn his trade.

A lazy family weekend, BBQ Saturday …

Hope everyone is well I can’t reply to all..

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Oops hit submit by mistake.

Cali we never leave our shoes just sitting outside, on the front and back verandah we have shoe cupboards, too much of a risk for creepy crawlies and slithery creatures,, including redback spiders which will be on the move now with the warmer weather.

Weight loss for the last 7 days is 0.4kg, must try to get an extended fast in next week.

Time to go, 6am and the sun is up now so time to get some outside chores done. Have been back to track pants, jumpers and a beanie the last few mornings, warming up during the day but not enough to change into shorts and T-shirt unfortunately.

    Happy Saturday everyone

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Cinque I’m in regional SA so not sure about the coffee culture in Adelaide but the majority of coffee shops/cafes in my area of the state close around 2 or 3pm and most only open Monday to Friday. I don’t think it has much to do with a culture but rather the business having their opening times to suit the owner rather than suit customer need. Im becoming more and more appalled with the lack of customer service and poor staff attitude in my region over the last few years. Miss GDay and I always comment when we are in Adelaide about how friendly and helpful shop staff are, I guess they have competition so they have to provide exceptional service to get customers but sadly where I live there is little or no competition so the owners and staff just don’t care, some are just downright rude and unhelpful.

  • Water is my number #1 choice

I have just two pieces of invaluable advice that will (ONE) enhance your chances of shedding weight, and (TWO) make the process gentler on both your body and mind.

Let’s begin with the second tip, as it’s often overlooked by those just embarking on their dietary journey. The advice? Drink clean, unboiled, still water. But here’s the twist—you need to know precisely how much your body requires. This amount varies depending on factors such as weight, climate, activity levels, and more. Everyone parrots “drink more water,” but it can be counterproductive. Here’s the skinny:

Too much water? You risk overhydration, which could leave you feeling unwell and fatigued (and spending half your day getting acquainted with the loo).
Too little? You won’t reap the full benefits.
So, it’s crucial to get the exact figure. Fortunately, you can quickly calculate your ideal intake with a free online daily water calculator.

Now, onto the first tip, which was kindly mentioned by u/gaboin. You need to maintain a calorie deficit. Again, this isn’t brain surgery—it’s a simple equation. Find your target number and stick to it. The results will speak for themselves.

For this, a free online calorie deficit calculator is your best friend.

I hope this advice helps you along your journey! If you found this post useful, do give it an upvote—crafted it myself (with these very hands). I’m happy to answer any further questions.

    Cheers and all the best!

Annoyingly I forgot to weigh myself this morning despite it being my weekly weigh day! I’ll have to remember on Sunday as I’m out earlydoors tomorrow… and have a party in the evening.

yesterday’s FD became FD800 – i was HUNGRY! That’ll teach me to eat carbs the day before fasting! Today was supposed to be day off but been looong catching up with the most urgent emails, a couple of zooms and some project work. Big conference coming up which is all pre-recorded this year so all the work is in advance! it’s shifting the busy time to NOW but Future Me will be very happy indeed.

I’ve not yet eaten today but have drunk much more to drown the dragon. I’m about to enjoy a OMAD baked sweet potato with dahl, mushrooms and extra spinach followed by plum and pear compote with vegan custard.

Lovely to catch up with posts. Hang in there All, and enjoy the travels/weekend

I have trousers in the wardrobe that are currently taunting me, but hopefully by the end of the year, I hope fit me. I can wear the trousers that had tags on, that were my pre Australia goal. Hopefully the scales and the tape measure will bring positive news tomorrow morning.

    Day 13 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

I managed to keep myself busy yesterday so ended up having an excellent FD despite waking up hungry. I’m also eating low carb….. I think 🤔. I’m avoiding the obvious processed carbs like bread, pasta, etc but eating fruit and veg with abandon. I just wondered what my actual carbs intake is as I chopped up my brunch bowl of fruit….or perhaps I shouldn’t worry about it too much as it is natural sugar and nutritious. Anyway I’ve eaten it now and it was delicious, kiwi, black grapes, banana and passion fruit with a handful of mixed nuts, a couple of spoonfuls of organic jumbo rolled oats and golden linseeds topped with Greek yogurt 😋 I doubt I’ll need anything else before dinner tonight!

    Happy Friday everyone 🍷

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Just a quick Hi and happy weekend to you all .

I had a much better FD yesterday and feeling very positive about things again. Tuesday was a learning curve and a test of my will power. I am sure I will have more of those;)
But its learning how to deal with it that will be the next lesson.

All these different realtionships we have with food only proves to me more that there isnt 1 solution that works for everyone. We can use the same “diet” but it will work differently and we must adapt to what works for us as individuals. People are not all the same and its important to listen to our bodies. For instance something I have noticed on a non FD is that when I eat something sugary after a FD , I actually feel a bit ill like my body is saying OVERLOAD !!!! Please stop!!! I’m still learning how to stop. I am so used to eating that whole chocolate bar that it is more out of habit that I eat it. I could just eat half ? But i dont . oh well its all still new and I will keep forming new habits.

Have a super weekend evryone !

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Hi Cali, I think you were posting at the same time as me earlier, so I didn’t see it then. Sorry

As to your question, the one solid meal per day is every day. Mostly I have it as dinner. What I am doing is not dissimilar to a Fast800 program where some people choose to use shakes as a meal replacement for some of their meals. I would rather make my own smoothies/shakes – they taste nicer and have fewer calories. I don’t count calories, but my estimate is that I’m consuming 5-600cals on FDs and 900-1200cals on NFDs. Hence the more rapid weight loss. This week I did 3 FDs, but I intend to reduce that to 2 for future weeks. I am being quite careful to limit added sugars and simple carbs – most of those come from the dairy products I’m using.

On a FD I am having an iced coffee, mocha or chocolate for lunch and a low cal dinner. Plus cups of tea as needed.

On NFDs I have a smoothie late morning. Then I have an iced coffee, mocha or chocolate in the afternoon. Dinner is whatever I feel like, but no snacking afterwards. I am finding that the afternoon drink does limit my appetite for dinner. I think it’s a combination of the psyllium and the volume of the drinks.

You probably have your own drink preferences, but I’ll explain what I’m doing.

For the iced coffee/mocha/chocolate I use a tall tumbler and a stick blender. I add a large handful of ice cubes, 1-2 tsp coffee and or dark cocoa, about a teaspoon of granulated stevia or monkfruit (natural low cal sweeteners), 1 tablespoon skim milk powder, 1-200ml unsweetened fortified almond milk (mine is 17 cals per 100ml and is fortified with calcium), 1-2 teaspoons unsweetened protein powder (I use plain soy or pea protein powder from the supermarket), 2-3 tsp fibre (mostly psyllium, but some oat or wheat bran too), a dash of vanilla and enough water to cover. Blend until smooth and then taste, adjust the flavours or sweetness if needed and dilute to taste. These drinks are around 100 calories. (I often use coffee substitutes instead of actual coffee – eg chicory, barley, dandelion root etc.)

For the smoothies, it’s the same as above, but leave out the coffee/cocoa. Instead I add 1-2 tablespoons of greek yoghurt (with live cultures) and about 1/4 cup of fresh/frozen/stewed fruit. Because I’m limiting sugar I am mostly using fresh strawberries and/or cooked rhubarb with only tiny amounts of anything else. The smoothies are 150-180 calories. (That’s why I don’t have one on a FD.) I usually end up with at least 600ml, so it’s quite filling.

    – my tablespoon measures are 20ml – your U.S. tblsps are 15ml, so you might need to adjust a bit.

I’m finding this pattern is working well for me as following it, means I can’t fill my afternoons or evenings with snacks. I was grazing far too much and even healthy foods have calories. The drinks are much more palatable as a meal replacement when the weather is warm. On one colder day I replaced the smoothie with cup of veggie soup as I couldn’t face something chilled.

Good luck. I hope you find a solution that suits you.

    Day 13-No. VA USA-FD 800
The weather here has been so lovely, cool and breezy, compared to our awful hot summer. Of course, there will be an end, but enjoying it a lot now.
@flourbaby, so glad for you in your new house; I agree with @penz, persistence in getting rid of the boxes is essential, or they become part of the furniture! Your panini breakfast sounds delicious, as does @funshipfreddie‘s. But I don’t usually eat breakfast except for coffee; I would have to hold off until noon.
@jaifaim, have a great trip. I haven’t been back to Long Island since graduating med. school in 1982!

    Day 13, London, UK, NFD

Office breakfast today, swapping my usual salad for a panini today as we’ve changed to another café (and it’s 5 degrees outside!😲) and their salads are dismal!! Not exactly low carb @funshipfreddie & @brightonbelle, which is another of my aims, there are so many lovely satiating options with low carb and I really enjoy it, but sometimes convenience = carbs, and there’s nothing worse for the waistline than doing LC part time!……………………. did I mention my panini??!!

Bo-Bo is indeed microchipped, and the new house has a super cat flap that will be linked to his chip, thank goodness as he used to have me up & down like a yo-yo letting him in then out then in then …………..…. anxiety & FOMO I think, he liked to check on what you were doing in HIS house and that someone was still in the house to feed him on demand!!😻😻

@jaifaim, have a fabulous holiday, it will be an epic reunion!!🥳🥰🥳 I haven’t been to America in 40+ years!! I need to make time for a trip I think…………. Vegas is top of the list ♠♣♦♥ …………………….note to self ………‘Do NOT gamble your new house!!’

@michelinme, I couldn’t possibly reveal my ‘number’😳 but I’ve set myself a 1 year target to shift the excess timber!! Swerving the carbs is definitely the key as well as drowning the dragon, so 2-3L of water should do the trick!

@penz, I’m definitely a member of Club Tor-twah🐢 in many respects, so unpacking everything at once is making me anxious & twitchy just thinking about it!!😱 ‘Slow & steady’…………….Little by Little’…………….. ‘One day at a time’ are my mantras!!🥱……….. I should be unpacked by Xmas!🤣🤣😊

@funshipfreddie, your fries & toast sound exactly like my low carb panini……………….. contradictory!!🤣🤣

Ok, back to work, deadlines await!!

    Keep the faith folks.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

LJ, for your new eating approach, are you limiting yourself to one solid meal only on FD’s or NFD’s as well? That might be a good plan for me to try as well. My weight loss overall has been so slow and bounces up and down, sometimes for no apparent reason. Adding psyllium fiber sounds good too. Maybe I’ll try that, at least for a couple of the NFD’s.

Cinque, I used to drink a lot of tea and coffee. But lately I’ve switched to decaf coffee only. Most of the teas I like have caffeine. I’ve always had trouble sleeping but more so lately, so I’ve gotten used to decaf. There are actually some pretty good ones out there, especially in the dark roasts.

Gday it sounds like you have a lot of lizards there. I could see where your daughter might be startled by that one. We have a lot of small ones in our back garden, but not as many as we used to. We’ve had a few neighbors cats hang out in our yard and I think they go after them. We’ve also had a fox in the neighborhood that’s been in our yard several times lately. Really a beautiful animal but even though they say they aren’t interested in dogs and cats, we always go out with our dogs. They, of course bark like crazy when they see any other animals in the yard. We have snakes too, but rarely see them on our patio. One of the ones that is common in this area are rattlesnakes. They’re poisonous. I do check my Crocs after I’ve hosed them off and left them outside to dry.
Well, time to get some sleep. Have a good rest of your day everyone.

    Day 13 🐈‍⬛ – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.2 kg

Had a perfect FD, & clocked up 12,300 steps, so feeling extra-smug today. It was nice to see so many of us on the list 🎯

@michelinme – it wasn’t that hard to resist those doughnuts. If they’d been covered in chocolate it might’ve been another story 😅

@brightonbelle – I’m not finding low-carb too challenging. It’s only been about a month, but I feel great. I think I’m getting younger, like Benjamin Button. Do you use the Carb Manager app?

    @jaifaim – have a great holiday! 🇺🇸🗽

@davinac – wishing you two good FDs before your daughter’s wedding. If you head your posts like the rest of us & indicate whether you’re doing a FD we can add you to the pocket lists for extra RESOLVE 💪

Off to a new place for brunch. ‘Mike’s Kitchen’ is doing a breakfast special – 2 eggs, bacon, fries, toast, tomato + a cappuccino for R 57! That’s about US$3.20. Mike’s Kitchens have been going for over 50 years, & are all over SA, but I don’t think I’ve ever been to one. Better late than never

    Happy Fri-yay! 🍹

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Good morning all.

My new eating approach is definitely more successful, so far, than my previous eating. It’s not quite a full week and I’m down 1.4kg. Most of the losses were from the FDs, but I’m no longer regaining weight on the other days, they are stable or tiny losses. I’ll see how it goes over a longer time period. It’s quite low calorie across the whole week, although I haven’t worked out exact calorie counts. My memory for kilojoules, carbs, fibre etc is extensive so my guesses are usually pretty close to the mark.
I am keen to get my weight down as my left knee has deteriorated and the time frame for needing that second knee replacement has gotten closer. It’s not urgent, but it’s already stopped me doing the longer hikes I could do 6 months ago. Being lighter should buy me a bit more time, and will also make post-surgery rehab easier. My GP has said it’s best to delay as long as possible, but I have said that I won’t delay surgery if it’s limiting my ability to get enough exercise.

Neil, excellent news on the weight loss. Good luck with that lunch. Maybe take the edge off your hunger before you go to lunch – just as you have been doing with your evening meal. The silver lining here is that it’s one lunch for 5 birthdays – it could have been 5 lunches in a month! (I feel a sense of panic, just thinking about that challenge.)

GDSA, Yes we have to be quite careful when it comes to research results. I remember from my studies the saying “lies, damn lies and statistics.”

Suzy & Quacka, tough FDs just drag. I find a headache, lack of sleep or a cold snap are usually responsible for me. Sticking with the FD instead of postponing it and going just a few calories over sounds like a perfectly acceptable compromise to me. I admire your perseverance. I also find Thin’s approach of delaying first food for the day to be helpful.

Cinque, I have a dance playlist on the ipod – although I should probably call it the cleaning playlist as that’s when it’s mostly used. Although during some of the covid lockdowns when time outside was limited I did play it while doing laps of the hallway.

Quacka, you need to be careful with snakes on the road and car windows open. I grew up in a rural area and a neighbour ended up with a snake flipping in to the car through an open window. His tires had apparently run over the very tip of it’s tail which he thought caused it to flip.

Thin, I agree with your comments about an efficient metabolism. I’ve struggled with weight my entire life and I know from extensive monitoring that my TDEE is over 200 calories lower than it should be based on the formula. Clearly my body is very efficient at using calories – I’m sure some ancestor found that to be life preserving during famine. That genetic inheritance has not been so useful for me.

I will keep reassuring my pot of tea that I love it, even if everyone else thinks it’s second best.

Hello to Anzac, Cali and anyone else I’ve missed. Take care everyone.

After a chilly start to the day, the sun is out and it’s perfect walking weather.

    Day 13, NFD, Aus

    I completely missed yesterday!

Great to see you back @flourbaby. I’ve done lots of removals over my life and find the best approach is to unpack everything immediately, otherwise the temptation (well, my temptation anyway) is to have unpacked boxes lying around for months and months. Good luck with whatever strategy works for you.

    have a great weekend everyone!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Neil, congrats on your weight loss.
Suzy and Quacka, I have had a couple of FD’s in the last couple of weeks that were hard. But like thin said, the hunger does come and go in waves. Sometimes it’s just in the evening that I have a harder time. But I always get through it by remembering that I can eat the next day.

Not a lot of time to write now, but just wanted to check in. My weight has been bouncing around in the mid 66’s to the mid 65’s. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out exactly why. I think a lot of times it has to do with the amount of salt intake. Oh well I will try to get back and write some work tonight. Take care everyone. Hope you are all doing well.

  • If your clothes are looser but the scales are the same, read on

    Hi Guys
Doing ok on the Diabetes Prevention Plan. A combination of fasting until lunch time most days, and low carb meals has resulted in a welcome weight loss, 12 pounds since early July. I no longer have clothes in the wardrobe that are too tight. Trousers I haven’t worn in a very long time are actually a little big now. I never imagined I would ever fit into them again and on numerous occasions have almost put them in the charity bag. However I will wear them with smugness now!!
Hope things are going well for everyone, check in when you can.
