  • Day 8 UK NFD

Just got home from my visit to see my family. Wow, now I remember why I moved away. It was not a pleasant weekend and I am so glad to be home. I am also nursing a shoulder injury (due to preventing my naughty toddler from falling down the stairs!) so I am not a happy bunny at all today. ☹

@beedoo please don’t worry about Ripped in 30. I am behind on it and looks like I’m not going to be able to do it any time soon due to my shoulder. Let’s start it in November. Be kind to yourself hun 🙂

    Day 8 UK FD

    Third post

Someone actually made homemade sausage rolls for the office today. They smell incredible and I’m sure I can hear them calling me. If I could show control and just stop at one I would do it, but I know what I’m like and if I start I won’t be able to stop…and then I’ll feel bad about it…and that’s just not what my current state of mind needs. So I have been checking in on today’s posts and not only does it keep me on track, there’s always something here to make me smile! Going to take a break from work and reply to a few posts I think….

@michelinme your mention of cold weather meal planning reminds me of the good intentions I started off with a week ago. I am going to do some meal planning for when we get back from Ireland and put a couple of soups in the freezer, otherwise I will delve head first into cheese and crackers as soon as we get home!
You are right about “easy on/easy off”, I’d never have believed it before I started this WOE. Like you I embraced the carbs at the weekend and it was all the bad kinds! Today I am sporting a full moon face.
Also, thank you for your words. I remember your mantra about looking after the “future me” after you were so unwell in June. Sometimes we get so caught up looking after everyone else that self-care ends up at the bottom of the to-do list. I am putting it firmly at the very top of the list and underlining it too!

@happymargo (what a lovely name!) Never thought I would find a reason to love Mondays but it turns out there is one – a good Fast Day to make up for weekend indulgences and set the tone for the week ahead. I love it too!

@at Well done on 5 dry days! I was doing well and then had a few too many on Saturday night. Found it hard to say no to a particularly nice bottle of Malbec! I suspect this didn’t help my mood yesterday. 1.3kg down in week one is brilliant and further proof of the “easy on/easy off” nature of this WOE. Thanks so much for sharing details of how you are managing in maintenance. When you say “I still try to fast twice a week and probably eat slightly above my TDEE on the other days so that I don’t lose any more weight.” Does this mean you do 500 cals on your FDs? Thank you, this is so helpful!

@basyjames welcome back. Life can take over like that, mine has too recently. I hope you are well. This place helps X

@kaywesterman have picked up that you are heading to Europe. How exciting! Have the most wonderful time and see you in November (yikes, how are we almost in November!?).

@sarahbob Welcome home. Visiting family can have that effect! Not making light of it, my siblings definitely remind me of the reason I moved away and have stayed away. Sadly sometimes, less is more. I hope you are now enjoying your home comforts. Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury. I hope you are able to rest it (a tall ask with a toddler around, I know!) and that you’ll be back fighting fit again soon. I have missed exercising every day (another mood enhancer for me) and am hereby committing to our Ripped in 30 challenge for November. Its’s the first full month in ages when I have no nights away planned and no visitors so that will help also.

Right, I better get back to doing some actual work. Goodness, I feel so much better for being amongst you all today. Hometime in about an hour. Can’t wait to see my little boy. Mondays feel extra-long when I’ve just had four whole days with him!

    Good afternoon fellow fasters.
Just coming up to 24 hours since my last meal…..so will shortly have my little piece of cheese, some beetroot slices and finish off with a handful of nuts. I do leave it as long as possible because there’s always a danger of falling into the food-pit once I start!
First week was successful after so long off the wagon, and I am 1.2kg down. Hooray. Looking forward to eating tomorrow!

    Day 8 Michigan FD

Wow, it did not take long for me to fall off the wagon! I think my NFDs are significantly harder for me than FDs! I HATE calorie counting to stay within my TDEE. Hate it. I thought the whole idea behind this 5:2 WOL was that I wouldn’t have to calorie count anymore. Sad day. It seems that my “normal” day of eating that would hopefully be counted as a NFD, includes way more calories than I thought. (I am hoping for weight loss from 5:2 along with long term health benefits.)

Feeling down. Really just want to eat sugary carbs 24/7. Eating them makes me feel calm.

I’m thinking about adding Friday as a 3rd fast day so that I don’t have the long stretch of Thurs-Sun where I am tempted to buy large boxes of cookies because I can eat them over several days.

I hope you all are doing well today and had a great weekend. Thanks for being here for me to come back to.

    Day 8 – 2nd post

Just checking in before I go to my evening yoga class

@beedoo – I was with you on Saturday night with some 🍷🍷overindulgence………my FDs vary depending on how I feel and how much feasting I might have enjoyed but usually under 500cals – sometimes it is a WFD but not often and others it might end up nearer the 800cal mark. For me that is the beauty of this WOL it allows me to flex to fit in with any socialising or overindulgence. I try to fast for 36-40hrs in order to gain some of the health benefits.
@basyjames – lovely to have you back

Need to go pick up a yoga friend and drive to our class – stay strong fellow fasters 🙏

Hey @keeper: It certainly says in the book that you only count calories for two days and on five you eat “normally”. Just don’t stuff yourself, I suppose. I just DON’T count calories. Well, that’s me anyway. Rightly or wrongly.

Day 8 – Eastern WA USA – LFD

I agree that it’s good to have a fast day on Mondays after our feasting on the weekend for most folks. I find my LFDs have more hot drinks than cold as the weather has cooled down.

@daffodil2010 – glad you had a great family time! Hopefully your FD at work goes well.

@claire Suzanne – Yay for going down 1 lb. Wishing you well on the job hunt! 🙂

    @basyjames – welcome back!

@ciren2 – hooray for moving downward by 1.2 kg. You’re doing great and encourage the rest of us.

Glad we’re on this journey together!

    Day 8 USA (Illinois) NFD

Home from Silver Sneakers where we celebrated the 90 year birthday of one of our men. John is a recent widower and started attending I think mostly for the company. He’s a regular now, and quite spry! I was asked to lead the “Happy Birthday” singing, and there was cake for all of us afterwards. Saved the cake for dessert after my lunch of spinach stuffed salmon. Pretty healthy so far today! Supper will be out with several members of our Choral Society before tonight’s rehearsal.

MFP weekly summary had me with 2 days right about 800 calories and all the rest almost exactly at TDEE. That’s about what my weeks have been in maintenance. I don’t add any exercise to MFP or it will think I need to eat more!

    Onward and downward.

Day 8, Rocky Mountains, US, CD

Reached finally lowest maintenance weight this morning again.😊😊😊 Now have to work on keeping it there.

Have a good Monday everyone! ⚘⚘⚘

    Day 8, FD

Fasted to 770cal today and I feel full 😀 . I definitely like that as it makes me feel happy and its really effortless and sustainable to eat this way 😀

I’m still away and very restricted with time to post but I read this forum and keep up 🙂

To all who are struggling, don’t beat yourself up if you fell off the wagon, just get back on and carry on, you will be fine! That’s the beauty of this WOL, remember? 🙂

Have a great day everyone 🌼

    Day 8 UK FD

Feeling much better after a long busy day. Life is overwhelming but that’s just how it is right now. I spent the evening working on a sewing project which focuses my mind whilst allowing me to think. After telling my dear husband about how I was feeling this morning, he did nursery pick up, then bath and bedtime with toddler. I need to learn to ask for support and to share the load. I put so much pressure on myself to do more, be more. Whoever came up with the notion of having it all is welcome to it! I am doing the best I can and that IS enough. There’s such a warm feeling in allowing myself to think this way.

Now to get ready for bed. I’ve had a good FD. Came in just over 600 calories which I’m happy with. I had a veg soup at lunch and then a chicken and veg barley soup for supper. No snacking. Plenty of liquids. I think I’ve been overthinking maintenance. For me, keeping track with MFP works. I need to remember that. Just as with starting this WOE, we all find our own way of doing it so hopefully my way of doing maintenance will start falling into place.

    Day 8 UK 2nd post

have just eaten a raw mushroom, my first food du jour. Got stuck at laptop for a full 8hrs & couldn’t keep up with the emails & deadlines!! Just about caught up and have a list ready for tomorrow but not eaten anything or drunk enough, just glued!

Late night baked sweet potato on its way – salad too cold, and i’m staying away from toast! I was thinking about baked beans, but they are so carbalicious too. #shouldhavegoneshopping

Snuck in a couple of v short phone conversations with DD earlier. She’s back at work and disappointed to learn her new role won’t start til January. On the bright side she’s been appt’d to a permanent roles rather than the fixed term or maternity covers, so encouraging her to think long-term and not sweat the next 8 weeks.

@basyjames welcome back, we missed you
    @sarahbob welcome home
@shinything hope things are going ok with your mother? Mine is sounding pretty rough but I simply don’t know what to do with her; she won’t move, have anyone in or accept any help except carefully planned things from family. Significant conversations round the corner, if i can just get thru next weekend’s events and get some rest…
@beedoo amazing what a difference it makes when we simply say that things are hard…

time to eat and zzzzz. Gotta pace myself for the week….

    Day 8 Canada NFD

Sorry I have been MIA- tackled a huge landscaping project and it wiped me out!
The hard work was rewarded with beer and wine.
Resting up today and ready for a FD tomorrow!

    Day 9 – Japan – NFD

71 water fasts done in 2018. Next year I’m going set a less aggressive goal! (My goal is to do 90 water fasts in 2018)

    Day 8, Brighton UK, MFD

I must have gone over my calories today, (I didn’t count) but not my much. I decided to go dancing tonight so I partook of the class but not the freestyle, just being in the atmosphere really cheered me up. My foot did ok it is a little swollen but I so enjoyed the little I did as it lifted my spirits enormously, I wore a brace to help me.

Thank you lovely challengers for all the support, somewhere I lost sight of the HEALTH benefits of this WOL. The fact I no longer have diabetes, have lost 65lbs and am healing my foot. And that I had a bath So I am clean. That I passed 4 exams and survived an abusive marriage. That I am healthy (even if mad as a box of frogs), that I actually hosted a whole month and had that confidence even though incompetence on the spreadsheet thing terrified me.

And most of all I forgot that I am part of a challenge team of such lovely wonderful supportive and loving posters here who will hold on tight when I need it most.

Someone I haven’t seen for three months said she thought I might look a bit slimmer but that I was more like my old self (Pre abusive marriage). That was lovely to hear, and that’s thanks to the understanding and feedback from all of you.

And above all on the non fat bits of my body there is so little loose skin because of my WFD. I was expecting to be bag lady on the skin issue. We will see how moustache tummy is if I loose more, but I intend to do another WFD series. In many ways WFD is easier than MFD. And much cheaper than any other WOL.

So as it’s 3 am and I just got into bed and I will sleep. But I have some special love and hugs to offer to fellow strugglers, know it’s going to be ok and it’s perfectly good to say that you struggle. Struggling is the thing that gets you knowledge and understanding of your body. And don’t loose sight (like I did) of the most important thing of all, your health. If cheating diabetes, lowering blood fats, losing weight and loose skin together with being part of one of the most amazing communities I know isn’t success then there is nothing that is.

We are all winners in the HEALTH game.

    Thank you

    Mari

    Day 9: Gloucestershire UK: NFD
FD went ok-ish yesterday. A bit disappointed with myself for having a (LARGE) bowl of porridge last night….on top of my FD cals. Nevertherless I had gone 24 hours on 500 cals first, so…
@beedoo: Good that you have a supportive husband. Well done on the FD success.
Have to leave for work shortly, so catch up later.
    Bye.

    Day 9 – Melbourne AUS – NFD

Jumped on the scales this morning and have PUT ON 3KGS IN 4 DAYS ARRRRRRHHHH!!! Despite yesterday being a FD. Crossing fingers and toes its mostly in transit, but oh well. Peaks and troughs i guess.

Feeling very very zonked (bit run down and very hay fevery) but will try to drag myself to a pilates class, that might help perk me up.

@beedoo hugs to you, I know what it feels like when you’re feeling snowed under and that something has to give. It’s never easy asking for help, or admitting that you’re struggling to cope (believe me, im the last person to ask for help, but wow the support when i do does help, who knew?!). One day at a time.

@rainbowsmile, your continued positivity is just inspiring. Thank you!

    Day 9, Cornwall UK, NFD

I too like Mondays! Had a good fast yesterday after an indulgent weekend that included home-made Bosh chocolate brownies made mostly from sweet potato! Did them for a dinner party and ate too many. Aghh. Should have made fruit salad (boring!).

A new greenhouse is under construction as part of my growth plans and its nearly ready. I too am snowed under with small plants and i need to get the greenhouse finished before the cold sets in. Feels exciting. Wish we had 2 harvest seasons like some of you out there.

@anna6 – i like the sound of your bulgar wheat salad so will try that.

@rainbowsmile – so good to hear you overcome some big challanges. I too am joining the baggy skin club. It started on my arms, then inner thighs, now a little on my tummy. But with yoga etc the bingo-wings on my arms are slowly reducing which is a pleasant surprise!

NO SOURDOUGH BREAD TODAY! If I shout at myself hopefully my subcontious brain will get the message…will let you know.

Day 9, 5.23 pm, Tasmania, Australia FD
    Today’s pocket list-@CateAus

    Day 9 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD 2nd of B2B2B

Morning campers!! I had a good less than 800 cal FD yesterday. It would have been 500 only I just had to have a small bowl of muesli as a bedtime snack (left over from my brother in law…he will be back at the weekend so cannot throw it out…..yet). Still, I am down a pound, so onwards trying to shift that holiday weight.

The weekend was a serious snacking event, no proper meals per se, not much alcohol but loads of sweets, crisps, cakes, sausages, chocolates…..all this while streams of kids ran around the house and gardens and adults sat, talked, and ate. It was a good family weekend and lovely memories made….especially of Dad teaching the card game Snap to one of my nephews, and playing Connect 4 with the 5 year old niece.

Work is showing itself to be a lot more difficult than I thought but it’s just lack of experience and all I need is to get stuck in, it’s the only way to learn. I am being told I am doing very well after just 4 days so I am confident about this.

However, my size 10 skirt this morning feels a tad snug around the waist hence my last minute decision to complete a B2B2B this week. I am still a normal BMI weight range but a lot of pounds over my ultimate goal.

@debster251. “Keep her lit”.. Ha ha, my DH and his friends say that a lot. Tell your DH we got home not a bother and plan a few more trips in Ireland before the season is out ☺️

@beedoo look after yourself, life does get overwhelming and it’s good to stop and ask for help.

@rainbowsmile That’s the spirit. You were an exceptional host with such an upbeat spirit so I was sad to see things going wrong for you recently. I know you will be fine, you have tremendous strength and courage to get through all you have got through already.

@cornish-jane ooh your new greenhouse sounds exciting. The first thing I did when I got home from holidays was plant out all my biennials. I still gave trays of seedlings that need to be potted on, my winter spuds are growing at a tremendous rate, and my chillis are ready to harvest. Oops just realised I have onion sets I need to plant up soon for Spring harvest……..anyway, hope your new project is a success 🤗

I start back with yoga on Thursday. It’s been nearly 6 weeks and my body feels a bit stiff, especially my knees with the odd popping sound when I stretch. Need more flexibility in my joints.

    Have a great Tuesday everyone.

    Pocket List Day 9
    @cateaus
    @daffodil2010

    Day 9 Belfast NFD

I blew my FD yesterday with mindless nibbling. I must work on my willpower muscle. Now the autumn is here, I’ve started back to cooking soups for the freezer, spicy Butternut squash the first batch. Now autumn’s here, salad isn’t as appealing!
@sarahbob – hope your shoulder heals soon.
@basyjames – good to see you back
@kaywesterman – I missed your up-coming trip. Safe travels and enjoy your holiday.
@keeper – when I started is WOL I counted calories, and like you was shocked to see how much I was actually eating. Now though, I don’t count and try to make healthy choices. If you don’t buy those cookies, they won’t be there to taunt you!
@michelinme – I volunteer for the Red Cross in a project which offers support to people who find themselves needing a little help to go about their daily life. It is up to a 12 week service, during which time we signpost people to permanent services. For several of the people I’ve attended, who have been hesitant in accepting what are traditionally seen as support services, it has been a stepping stone for them to realise that they need help, and it takes a bit of pressure off the family. Don’t know if it happens in your area, but it’s been a very popular service.
@rainbowsmile – such an inspiring post. Thank you
@Gretta- hopefully ‘easy on, easy off’!

Fellow plankers – how’s it going? I must confess, my willpower is flagging a bit. Off now to do my daily torture!

Im going for coffee this morning with a dear friend to plan our weekend away. We (me and my girlfriends) are off on our annual trip to Donegal on Friday, and I’m so looking forward to the fun and love that a couple of days will bring.

“Weight loss is like driving: If you ever veer off the road, just make a U-Turn and head back in the right direction”

    Have a good day.

    Day 9, UK, ??

Good FD achieved yesterday and Run One of Week Four C25K went well. Now running for longer than walking.

@debster251 – planking every day – but only a minute so far.
    @beedoo & @rainbowsmile – glad to see you’re both feeling brighter.

Got a poorly oldie this morning, so need to get dressed and out.

    Have a good day..

    Day 9 Norfolk (UK) FD

Yesterday was a bit stressful with the guys here putting up the scaffolding all round our place. We need a new roof as our current one leaks when it rains!
We are renovating an old bungalow and the roof felt is in very bad condition.
We were woken one morning by the sound of the rain coming through the lounge ceiling.
Thankfully we haven’t “done” the lounge yet. Would have been heartbreaking if it had come through the ceiling above the rooms we have renovated.

@strawberriesandcream I found the jump from Week 3 to Week 4 too much so I’m doing my own intervals til I can build up to Week 4!

    Day 9 Ireland NFD

Yesterday I just couldn’t stop thinking about food!!! My FD are full of tea and coffee but I don’t eat anything. However, yesterday after kids came home from school I gave in!! Just half a banana, a tablespoon of peanut butter and a fistful of branflakes so not too bad!
Looking forward to some food now but funny I’m not craving anything like I was yesterday!!

    Day 9 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Cooler autumn days = feeling cold on FDs, thank heavens for Marmite, made into a hot drink it saved the FD yesterday afternoon.

Keep on keeping on everyone, we’re worth it 😊

@yellowandblue Do you not eat anything at all on your Fast Days?

@missybear I think I will have to try your marmite tea idea! I’m alternating black coffee with black tea & lemon.

    Day 9, London, UK, FD,
    Day 8, London, UK, NFD

Didn’t manage to post or catch-up yesterday as I took my mum to the funeral of a friend she’s known 70+ years. Very sad, yet a beautiful expression of love from his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren & friends.

@happymargo, I’m going to dress for dinner and set the table, prop the mirror up in front of myself, use my best linen and imagine I’m in a fancy restaurant ……………………. Mindful, elegant, slow & refined eating, rather than mindless shovelling in front of the telly in my PJ’s!!!!

@debster251, I work in construction and we invented a temporary cover for manholes to be used during construction, when the permanent covers we walk or drive over every day can’t be fitted or could be damaged by construction vehicles ………………. I know, sexy as anything!!!!! …………………………….. I can see you all yawning from here!!!!!!

@rainbowsmile, I’m not promoting the methodology behind the ‘whoosh’ effect, but it was the only thing that launched this particular Tortwah off of the plateau. I don’t want to use a large carby meal as my weapon against stagnation, but it has worked in the past, just changing things up a bit, so maybe when I get desperate to move things along I’ll try it again, would it work for you????
    http://100down.org/the-whoosh-effect/

@heyheyceline, this might help, fish and chips are one of the healthiest fast food options out there, so not quite a junk food binge for you, but I know what you mean!!!
    http://fatburningman.com/4-simple-strategies-to-burn-fat-after-a-binge/

@claire-suzanne if that skimmed milk thing works, I will be forever in your debt!!!!!! Full fat Greek yoghurt can be a fantastic mayonnaise substitute, but double cream………………….. no chance!!!!!!

@ciren2, so good to have you back on the wagon!!!

@keeper, unfortunately, until you have mastered the art of self-control and being able to judge calories by eye, you may need to count those calories as though your life depended on it ……………………………… which in fact, it does!!!! Sad but true, I’m awful at judging portions (1 biscuit= 1 portion, ½ bagel = 1 portion, 20g cheese = 1 portion, 1 slice of bread = 1 portion!!!!) or guesstimating calories (1 biscuit (could) = 90cals, ½ bagel = 130 cals, 20g cheese = 84cals, 1 slice bread = 109cals!!!) The call of the sugary carb dragon can be strong, but you WILL get to the point where you make better choices, you WILL fall off the wagon and descend into sugary carb heaven (hell!!) but you WILL get back on the wagon and those incidents WILL become less frequent!!!

@basyjames, you’ve been missed, but we kept your seat on the wagon warm, welcome back!!!

@yellowandblue, well done on flexing that self-control muscle!!!! I usually have soup on a FD, but if I go off-plan whether a FD or NFD, all hell breaks loose, for me it would have been the whole banana and the entire jar of peanut butter!!!! I have an issue with PB!!!

    Onward & Downwards folks & remember ……………………………………….
………………………..“It doesn’t matter how slow you go, just as long as you don’t stop!!!”

    Hi @claire-suzanne.
Yes I normally don’t eat, just have lots of caffeine and water on a fast day, it is usually easier for me as I find if I eat anything I just want to continue!!!

Day 9 – NFD; Dublin, Ireland

    Hi everyone,

yesterday’s FD was derailed due to snacking on pistachios, but thankfully well below TDEE.

That being said, I feel myself plateauing. I am so desperate to get below 70kg and stay there, just like I was this time in July. I know it can be done, but it just feels impossible right now.

Good luck to everyone fasting today!

Day 9- Colorado USA- MFD (800 cals)

@flourbaby – oh my! Bravely trying out the Mirror Method! ……. We look forward to the test results/ report.

I never got myself to do it (although the other tips in the article proved helpful.). I just couldn’t imagine so closely watching myself shovel dinner into my pie hole. Blech! Would surely cut my calories waaaaayy down! 😁
Unfortunately, DH & I are more apt to dig in to dinner “in front of the telly wearing PJs”

One thing I do well though is I serve up a very reasonable portion (on our smaller plates, so it fools the eye to look like more) with plenty of veggies…..and then NEVER go back for second servings! …..Ever.

@flourbaby – I use a Bamix stick blender but I have seen it done in a cafetiere too!

    Day 9 NC USA NFD

Holding steady at about 184lbs after my FD yesterday but I have learned the weight seems to come off only after the second FD so am not worried. Going to yearly company event so will have to eat whatever food they bring in for lunch. Hopefully it is not too derailing. Then I have dinner with my sister and my daughter. It is my daughters pick so we will probably end up at Golden Corral. Another challenge. Hope everyone else day goes well.

    Day 9……Florida…..CD

Not sure how, I got so far behind in posts and actually writing one. So darn disappointed in myself for the EFS weekend, I had. Although, I really wanted yesterday to be a FD, it only ended up being a CD.

Today’s actually going to be a crazy day. Stupid me set up a breakfast group for the office this morning at 9am, then I’ve got to hit the road and travel to the 6 other meetings I set up for myself.
I really got to get a handle on the appointments, I set for myself.

For this breakfast meeting, I’m going to try and resist and not eat. No matter what the Rep brings! Okay, I’m gonna try! I may just be totally lying right now! Let’s just hope she brings something disgusting like fast food! Or Sausages, I can’t eat them! Or almonds allergic to them, so there put too……

Then after breakfast, I’ll be out on the road….let’s just hope the hurricane in the gulf does not make people stupid crazy when driving. I swear when people hear evacuating they go nuts!

So, that’s what my life consists of right now……

A nurse friend asked me where she could find scrubs and I said probably hanging out on the passenger side of his best friends ride!

    Day 9 USA (Illinois) CD

Need to have a good CD today. Yes, those NFD’s are generally the real challenges!

@keeper – my hatred of counting calories led me to MyFitnessPal app that I sync to Facebook ID. That means it loads on my phone as well as iPad. Even the free version is extremely useful and user friendly. I have added a few of my own recipes too, but it tells me calories for virtually everything I might put in my mouth. There is a short learning curve (like don’t add your exercise or it will allow you to go way over TDEE) and most of us put the weight (for it to calculate TDEE) at your goal weight.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 9 North Canton FD

First back to back in a few weeks. @bert1802 sucks sometimes but life happens. All you can do is pick yourself off from where you left off and continue the journey. You have been here before and by the way that makes at least two of us. I logged into October for the first time yesterday! That’s the first time since I began the monthly challenges that I have fallen so far behind.

These challenges are so important, a study I was recently reading showed that our weight usually equals the average weight of our closest friends because our friendships influence what we deem acceptable; either for the better or for the worse. I will share the link when I can find it again.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes @flourbaby those temporary manhole covers really sound sexy as heck! Do you own the patent on those?

@rainbowsmile, I just LOVE your spirit. Thank you for sharing your struggle. Your comments are dead-on; it is so easy to focus on the weeds instead of the beautiful garden. Your words reminded me that despite the frustrations of day to day living, many of us in this WOL have come a long way from where we started … and the best is yet to come. In my case 35 pounds lighter, normal BMI, clear skin, and bloat-free. Somewhere along the way, I shed my sugar addiction, alcohol lost its attraction, bread and carbs are no longer my kryptonite.
You will get to your goal; struggles are part of the journey and what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger (a nod to my girl – Kelly Clarkson)

It’s a new day my friends, let’s make it count.

    Day 9 Norfolk (UK) FD

I seem to be getting bad heads on my Fast Days – do they get better?

    Day 9, Surrey (UK), FD

Had a senior moment last Friday. And Cruella was just being cruel as well. Weighed myself after Thursday’s FD and the scale said….150.0lb. WHAT?? I stepped on again, just to be sure. Again, 150.0lb.

My target reached – after almost a year of this WOE. WOOOHOO!! But hang on….
In my jubilation, I picked up my camera to take a photo of my feet on the scales. This time they showed 150.6lb. My DH said, “Of course it’s gone up, you’ve got the camera on the scales with you!”

    DOH!!!!

So I stepped on a third time, this time without the camera. Somehow, somewhere between the bedroom and the bathroom, I’d plucked a few ounces from thin air, because this time the scales now showed….150.6lb. Cruella was clearly remembering the camera! That, my friends, was sheer cruelty!

But anyway, I did get to within 0.6lb of my target, and it’s testimony to the fact that this WOE really does work. Sometime soon I really will hit my 150lb target. Not tomorrow though, as this morning I was 2lb up after an extended weekend’s worth of EFS to burn through – DH and I enjoyed an indulgent weekend away! Hoping that ‘easy-on-easy off’ will work for me!

@yellowandblue: I’m with you on that one. I’m seriously considering a water-fast next time as, like you, if I start eating I may not stop…..!

I’ve been a bit thrown out because Thursday is my day off this week (FD??) but I can’t contemplate fasting when at home all day, which means either tomorrow or Friday instead. I can’t BELIEVE how the thought of drifting from the “rules” so early on disturbs me!? I have a different day off each week at Royal Mail, so, of course it will happen on Mondays and Thursdays regularly! I know…I know…
@flourbaby: Yes, it’s great to be back on that wagon….but hang on to me, or I may fall off.

    Day 9 UK FD

Back from my weekend away and having, so far, a successful FD. Planning to have soup tonight and further FD tomorrow. Still keeping to Sober October and feeling ok. Will catch up with all the posts tonight.

@claire-suzanne: Headaches are often caused by not drinking enough on FDs. Drink plenty of water. PLENTY!

Day 9 – Eastern WA USA – NFD

Planning on breaking my fast from yesterday at 1:00, making it a 42 hr one. Today will be an 18:6. I agree that the LFDs work quite well, because no beginning of eating solids. I don’t call mine WFDs because I do have a little real cream in my coffee (keeping carbs low), tea and sometimes bouillon or broth.

@michelinme – I know things can be tough with parents when it’s time for change due to health… would your mother be open to visiting, touring some places she might considering transitioning to? Maybe a family member can even accompany her. My parents, in Canada, visited several and went from tours and maybe a complimentary meal to even staying for a few days to try a couple out. They settled on a faith-based assisted living place that has several different levels of care depending on people’s needs.

@beeboo – that communication is so important. I’m glad you were able to reflect on your needs and to communicate with your hubby. He sounds like a keeper 🙂

@missybear – I agree, hot drinks are needed on FDs as the weather turns cooler in the northern hemisphere.

@fatfingers – oh my. Glad you can laugh about your Cruella episode. You’re right we’ll get there eventually.

@metatauta – hope you’re doing okay in your new job. We’re here for you if you need some support.

Glad we’re on this journey together!

    Day 9 – UK – CD

Weight this morning after yesterday’s 300cal FD was back to 53.7kg so 2kg down since beginning of the challenge and back to the lower end of my maintenance range – this WOL works!

A 7km walk to start the day this morning – overcast and windy but not cold and no rain – broke my fast afterwards with an late light brunch and a coffee with walking friends. Planning for today to be a CD after yesterday’s FD.

Followed by an afternoon of baking 2 gluten free cakes for tomorrow’s group I volunteer at (1) Gluten and Dairy free spiced carrot, raisin and orange cake and (2) Gluten and wheat-free coconut squares with raspberries.

@keeper – the biggest learning curve I had was to learn what a day on my plate at my target weight TDEE was – I .overestimated how many calories I was consuming hence gaining weight……So initially I used to count calories using MFP until I learnt how many calories was in the food I ate. This WOL also helped me to reduce the number of unhealthy foods I ate and improve my diet. I still have a slice of cake or a scone, some crisps and glasses of wine just not everyday and in the same quantities as before. I now eat mainly a Mediterranean style diet but with some lapses every now and then. Currently I’m aiming to stay alcohol free for 4 days a weeks during this October challenge as I strayed a bit in September …..
@redrockgirl302 – great job – you and I are on a similar path at the moment
@beedoo – sounds like you have a supportive husband – just remember to share how you are feeling with him and he sounds like one that will be there for you 💑
@rainbowsmile – well done on taking the time out to review all that is good in your life and how much you have achieved and you were a wonderful ray of sunshine as our August host 🤗
@daffodil2010 – good to hear the job is working out well – sounds like a very supportive and encouraging environment x
@claire-suzanne – totally agree – you need to drink a lot of water on FDs – I aim for at least 2L of water on top of numerous cups of tea/coffee – in cold weather I love hot water with lemon/lime slices

OH and I went to a high impact pilates (HIP) class together early this evening – we have signed up to a 6 week block…….

Got back home to a healthy dinner of spelt pasta with crab sauce – such an easy dish yet so tasty 😋

We are now settling down to watch Great British Menu – Fish course finals tonight.

“if I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. and when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 9 NFD
I meant to stick to a strict mon/thurs schedule. But I didn’t fast yesterday and so I meant to today. And then I didn’t. And now I’m discouraged and beating myself up. Which is really unproductive because I can still have 5 days left in week!
The scale hasn’t moved but I saw the outlines of what I believe are muscles in my legs. Not sure. I didn’t know I had muscles but I think maybe I’ve lost some fat and replaced it with muscle?

    Still day 9 –

@at – would you mind sharing the coconut – raspberry squares?

@anna6 – I enjoyed making one of your salads the other day with strawberries, chicken, spinach, avocado & more. So yummy!

    Day 9, Gozo, Malta, cd

This morning I weighted one kilo less than yesterday though yesterday s fast day ended at around 900 calories. Today was a fd that turned into a cd of around 1,100 calories.

Rainbow smile you did wonderful. Good for you to go dancing. I’m so happy 😃 for you that your foot is on the mend. Take care.

Cornish-Jane if you want the recipe with exact quantities of bulgur wheat salad I can give it to you.

Today I made a chickpea and chicken salad with my pregnant daughter didn’t like and a new recipe using chicken bulgur wheat, cucumbers, spring onions, dried apricots, fresh mint and basil, olive oil, mango chutney, mild curry powder, sweet paprika and water. My pregnant daughter liked it and so did my son in law and husband. I should have used quinoa but although the expire date was in April 2019 there was butterflies in the qinuoa packets so I had to throw everything away. I then used bulgur wheat instead.

    Good evening/night everyone.

    Day 9 Minnesota, USA NFD

I think the shortening days and the colder, rainy weather are making it harder for me to fast. Maybe affecting others, also? I’ve been hungrier in the mornings which is unusual. Be back on later, I hope, to read posts and comment.

    Best of luck to everyone!

    Day 9 UK CD

Another day at the laptop has zippped past. Didn’t squish in yoga this AM, just finished and eaten another v late supper – at least i’m doing OMAD atm. No sense of progress on the project pile but Just enjoyed an epic sort of the folder, getting rid of a huge pile of paper so clearly it’s getting there! Out all day tomorrow at meetings, inc an important first one i’ve not prepared for..yet!

Have decided to forgo a pre-event haircut and just do a home colour instead – rather than as well as – running out of time. I was going to colour tonight but too late. If i have capacity on Thurs am I’m going to try to get along to my favourite shop for a bra fitting on my way to PM meetings. After losing 35lbs all my bras are now much too big or rediscovered v old ones. Had a really helpful chat with DD sorting out that as more of a priority to boost my confidence than a haircut – It’s foundational, she said! (Actually, I think i’d be ok without either – esp as not written my own talks for Saturday yet – but she’s v convincing!)

Decided clothes for this two day event where i’ve got a variety of public roles.Super casual and comfortable on Saturday wearing my favourite greens plus gold scarf, then a favourite just redyed green/brown dress that’s just been taken in for Sunday 🙂 The weather is forecast to be an amazing 22C on Saturday – almost unheard of for mid October in London.

Yesterday was definitely a OMAD FD of some sort – I didn’t weigh some stuff, think i prob went over 500 but plenty under 800 so that’ll do me. Today’s been a OMAD CD – supper of rice, peas, sausages, eggs, cheese. Strange food but instant. And one v v skinny piece of toast & honey as the bread made its way to the freezer.Resisted seconds, which is progress.

Sorry for long post! Glad to read yours, sorry not to be engaging much atm – roll on next week.
@rainbowsmile epic post, delighted to read it xx
@debster251 @annemarilyn thank you v much for your ideas. My mother’s at the stage where she needs regular help at home but complicated. If she lived in a level flat it would be much easier – hers has zillions of stairs which exhaust her, and is falling down around her but she won’t think of selling/moving. She’s rarely well and will v soon need some help to think through what next…

zzzz Go well, good people xx
