  • Amazon I am watching Roger v Milos it will be a fascinating clash as you know i am on the Fed Express for the title he was $8 at the start now into $3.8. Good luck to Andy he won’t need luck straight through no worry how ever we thought that with the Joker πŸ˜‰

    Hi RT, I’m watching too.
This is a tough one to call as last time they played Milos won, but he needs to take the first set or he’s toast.
And as I type he takes it, game on πŸ˜‰

    Hi all,
Just home from a Friday night at the ballet, too wired to sleep! A magnificent production of Romeo and Juliet, performed by the Houston Ballet as guests of the Australian Ballet. All the way from your State of Texas Slimnhealthy! Sad to see the news tonight of the other Texan city of Dallas, such madness and tragedy. I would hate one of my sons to be a police officer… So I am thinking about Dallas, Houston and Austin, Texas tonight.
We had a very early dinner before the show so I arrived home starving. Log on here and all I see is peanut butter – inspired a very nice supper of crackers with p/nut butter and a cuppa! Well, I am fasting tomorrow…..

I am happy your health hiccup has not interfered with your Cornwall trip Jo, hope its just what the doctor ordered. Easy to see in hindsight why you were cranky the night before spiking your temp, what a horrible way to wake up. I never stop fluids early to minimise nocturnal loo trips, I wake regardless. But luckily barely open my eyes and go straight back to sleep.

My Irish forebears forgive you RT, hilarious! Agree with Amazon, the hole diggers/fillers my favourite.
    Have a great weekend all.

    Hey all!

I had to ignore your posts if they had anything to do with tennis as im taping to watch later! Can u believe im having mu daughters bday party instead of a breakfast at W party? Not sure what i was thinking.

    Anyway!!!! Big news!

I dedicated my fast yesterday to my friend Jeannie. They had moved her up to the Hospice floor but i wasnt counting her out as we had talked about her having a “near death experience” come back.

Every time i was hungry yesterday i just imagined her filled with light snd healing. And she had lots of other people doing the same. My fast has never been easier.

Well, my friend texts me this morning: “jeannie is revived snd up and talking and asking for pain meds that wont kill her!”

    Unbelievable!

So no weightloss, but dedicating my healthy day of eating today to Jeannie! Join me if you feel inspired. β˜€οΈ

Slimn…FD today. I will dedicate all my seltzer bubbles to uplift Jeannie

    K Lo!
    I love that!

    Amazon,
I have a low protein high fibre diet as a vegetarian. I also eat lots of fruit daily so I doubt that was the reason for the stone, who knows? Could have been there for a long time and just decided to move on much like the gall stones.
Happy- I was given a quick dose of anti- inflamatories but refused anti- biotics. They insisted that I take a prescription which could be filled if I need it. Luckily I feel fine now. Shame about Fedora, let’s hope Andy makes it through. Berdych is fighting hard.
Just having some nice homemade veg soup.
Actually stay at my SIL’s tonight, early start to Cornwall in the morning.
We have everything but the kitchen sink in the car, so much for my light packing. Already realised that I have forgotten my binoculars, blast it! Staying in a wildlife area so I really need them. Got my wellies though, we are going to feed the animals on the farm of the cottage owners.
Really looking forward to a change of scene, just what I need.
    Happy fasting Guys

When did you become a vegetarian Jo? You are always talking about all the fish you eat.
Whatever the cause of your kidney stones it isn’t lack of fluids and there are numerous causes and as far as I know they aren’t always able to work out the reason. Let’s hope you don’t get any more.

    Have a lovely holiday πŸ™‚

    Amazon,

I’d probably describe myself as a vegetarian… except for eating meat and fish because I’m cooking for OH and me πŸ˜€

More of an aspiration than a reality….

A bit late to the party, but… I similarly can’t tolerate excess carbs anymore. I get bloating and gas and odd sensations down my leg (IBS?). Am I more intolerant or am I just more aware now there’s less of me?

Nama OMG can it be true Collingwood smokin the GWS and big Trav has 3 in the bag with a quarter to play….Whoop Whoop

20 touches 12 marks and 4 goals Nama its official trav is back !!!

I was holding my breath for the last quarter RT! Incredible. They were 3rd on the ladder so a very nice surprise!
Just a warm up for next week!

    Morning/evening all,

RT, have you swapped your tennis seat for the Murray express yet πŸ˜‰

Happy are you saying that Jo isn’t a vegetarian but wants to be? I thought maybe I’d missed something while I was away and she had given up occasional meat and frequent fish eating. I’m sure Jo will clarify when she reads the thread πŸ™‚

I don’t eat meat or fish based protein every day and haven’t done for many years. I usually eat meat once or twice per week. I love it but I also enjoy the many other protein rich foods such as eggs, cheese, pulses and yes even tofu πŸ˜‰

Did you know that asparagus tops the list for vegetables containing the most protein, followed by the humble cauliflower?

Have a good one everybody 😜

Amazon I am not an Andy fan and so i for one very under whelmed by the men’s final this year on the upside what a cool name Milos is and he is a very cool young man so all power to him. On the local telly that bloody classic film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is on again yes I know again but let’s not forget
‘Everything will be alright in the end so if it is not alright it is not the end.’
    Peace RT πŸ˜‰

    Hi Amazon,

I was speaking for me, not Jo. I eat meat more frequently than I would choose naturally because I cook for OH and me, and he isn’t as keen on the non-flesh sources of protein….

In the absence of OH, I would eat mainly vegetarian, some vegan meals, meat occasionally and fish a couple of times a week. But I wouldn’t be a vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian….

Omg…we are watching a Aussie rock quiz show….a pop star from the 50s just performed…he’s 80! What on earth is his diet? He is like Peter Pan! He’s amazing. πŸ˜…πŸ˜… P

Happy, my head is so full of cold, I can’t think straight and I misunderstood your post

I had a craving for hummus yesterday so I made some and now that the flavours have developed overnight I think I might have used too much garlic.
That’ll help my cold AND keep vampires away πŸ˜‰

Another quote from the most exotic marigold hotel is: the only failure is the failure to try

So long as we are trying we are not failing πŸ˜ƒ

    Amazon,

You may or may not have misunderstood my post πŸ˜€

But I suspect it would be more accurate, eating fish regularly and meat rarely, to describe oneself as ‘mostly vegetarian’…?

I think I am mostly obsessed with food and eating…………
    and tennis πŸ™‚

    Amazon…add more lemon?

    Add more chickpeas πŸ˜€

I don’t have any of either left. I don’t ming it being garlicky I just need to avoid breathing over anyone but I guess my cold will keep them from getting too close πŸ˜‰

Well as a garlic lover myself, breathing garlic on people is a good way of finding out who’s a kindred spirit!

Hi AO good to see you up and about and do hope all is well for you.Yes the film is developing quite a cult following of us “grey nomads”
    RT

Amazon I hope for your sake that Andy wins the final! And you better lock the fridge and the cupboards just in case – either celebratory eating or comfort eating may ensue in all the excitement.
RT I assume you are doing a bit of celebratory eating ( and drinking? ) right now after your team did so well, charging towards the top of the ladder no less. Not sure I want my team to play yours next week now! I am surprised you label yourself as a “grey nomad” RT, you are too young!
Another freezing and damp Sunday here, but the fire is alight and I have lamb shanks falling apart in the slow cooker……

    Morning/evening all,

Overcast and humid this morning with rain imminent and sunshine this afternoon in time for the tennis πŸŽΎπŸŽΎπŸŽΎβ˜€β˜€β˜€

My head cold is much better this morning πŸ™‚

Have a good one everybody 😜

Very good weekend of footy Nama and we will continue to build momentum towards September for sure as for being a β€œgrey nomad” for me well it’s more a features thing I as I am follically challenged 😳 and Gandalf the grey slash white oh wise one number one clipped head and beard always however πŸ˜‰
    RT

    Hello,
Reading all posts guys! Just a little to occupied with my cousin.
We had rain but need more! Yesterday was supposed to be extremely hot but wasn’t that bad. I also invited a couple to join us for dinner and thank god I could hold myself with everything food and drinks. Lots of glasses to deal with in my kitchen.
Looks like I have to bring an umbrella to my trip to London.
    Be good there kids πŸ’‹

    HCB,
We’ve not had that much rain in London but us Brits love to dwell on the worst aspects of our climate. We can’t help it as it is in our DNA πŸ˜‰

I went out this morning to the local market and it was very warm with more of a fine mist than rain coming down. It is now dry, breezy, overcast and very warm. Most importantly it is getting brighter every minute πŸ™‚

    Hi Jojo
Just started this 5.2 diet. Tomorrow is my fasting day so will be on the 500 calories for the day. I dont really work out that much only once twice a week. I want to aim to lose 2 pounds per week. My weigh in day will be Sunday so wish me luck. I hope you do well this week too. Keep it up !!

Thanks RT…I need a cuppa….would you like to join us Nama? 🍡🍡
I’m being a complete masochist here today…researching recipes for a dinner party later in the week. πŸ˜•πŸ˜―
Well done to that fine Scottish tennis player πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
    P

Thanks P, put the kettle on! I am scraping old silicone off tiles preparing for second shower reno….. a long black coffee would be lovely thankyou! You are a masochist, but your fast today is essential if partying coming up!

Welcome Sayda! Good luck tomorrow, dont worry about exercise just yet – get the fasting sorted.

Hi Sayda and welcome (Jo will be asleep at this time, I hope)
    My advice:
Measure yourself all over so that you have your start level
Calculate your hoal ideal wright and learn to eat for that weight
Weigh first thing every morning, not just once a week. And record it.
500 cals is the maximum on fast days. Try for less.
Eat mindfully on the other 5 days.
Cut down white, starchy carbs every day.
Eat full fat dairy foods. They help you to feel satisfied.
    Increase your leafy veg level.
    Drink plenty on fast days.
Try to put off eating as long as possible each day. Eating anything stimulates appetite.
Post regularly. ..we are all here for support.
Lastly, enjoy your new life!!!! ☺☺PVE

Ps and as Nama said, exercise is for toning, not weight loss. Concentrate on learning to fast first.

Oooo…you make a good cuppa RT. Much appreciated by us 😊 P and sidekick πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

AAah Gee thanks guys my pleasure and of course I can not take all the credit i have been researching πŸ’‘ For the special occasion of RT Nama and two Ps in a pod πŸ˜‰ it’s all in the crema people

    Peace RT

    Hi Sayda,

Follow what PVE said and you’ll do fine. Without knowing your starting weight 2 pounds per week may be optimistic. Slow and steady wins the race. One pound per week is do-able. I only averaged 0.7 pounds per week, took a year but ended up losing 44 pounds and hit my self imposed goal weight.

Exercise is good for toning and it makes you feel good. Exercise releases dopamine. You don’t need chocolate and sugar to get a dopamine hit! Exercise will do it as well and its calorie free. It does help with weight loss but its a minor effect. Diet is the big one.

    Good luck

FD for two here, also. Nearly done, and the soup is simmering nicely, chokka with vegies and spices. πŸ™‚

Glorious clear day today, little wind, 2 degrees at the station at 7.30 this morning. Brrrrr!

Well done Andy, and Portugal! Who would have picked it?

When I turn OH’s loss into old language, there’s nearly a stone gone. Sounds much better than 5-6 kgs. He doesn’t know if he has taken his belt in, not much attention paid to such stuff πŸ™‚

Have a successful week, all, and welcome, Sayda. Masses of support and good humour here.

Well I think I may be fasting today after ‘re-feeding’ at the weekend…

The weather wasn’t brilliant and we both did a bit of boredom eating I’m afraid, probably not helped by spending Sunday in the kitchen!

The freezers are overflowing with fruit from last year and I’d said unless we make space I’m just going to have to let this year’s produce rot in the garden…cue flurry of activity! OH started some wine, and with 8ish kilos of fruit out I was able to find carrots (now soup and hummus) and damsons (from two years ago!) which are now turning gin purple πŸ™‚

The plus side of spending the day in the kitchen was watching (guilt free) Andy Murray’s excellent Wimbledon win!

    Morning/evening all

As you can imagine I am very happy this morning as far as the tennis is concerned. Prior to Wimbledon Andy had reached the final of the last four tournaments he played and won two of them one of which was against Djokovic in Rome and the other against Raonic when he won a record fifth Queens title. I knew he had an excellent chance of winning as he is in such great form and he was the best player in the tournament from the first match to the last.
I had a bottle of champagne that had been sitting in the fridge for more than a year waiting for Andy to lift a slam trophy so it was opened yesterday.

This weekend has been an eating fest which is no surprise as I’m hungry all the time when I get a cold and my self control has once again taken a hike.
I was hoping it would be just a head cold but it is moving chestwards which is a bad sign and slightly worrying as it isn’t that long since the last one, so I’ll take a look at my vitamin and mineral intake and see if I’m missing anything.

I am fasting today, I’ve bought a chicken, lots of veggies and salad and have planned a week of FD and non FD meals. I’ll roast it, make some stock with the bones which can be used for soup, I’m thinking of Chinese style chicken and sweetcorn. I’m also going to make a huge bowl of calorie counted coleslaw with yoghurt, mustard and lemon dressing.
I’m going back to counting every calorie for the next week too as guesstimating isn’t working too well and I only have myself to blame.

Have a good one everybody 😜

yours truly, the Queen of self sabotage πŸ˜•

Ha ha your highness – we are all human, royal or not! I am always planning to calculate the calories in my coleslaw but never get around to it! Queen of procrastination here.. I have it low cal (naked) sometimes, and if not a fast day, I have a bit of dressing with extra fetta cheese. Couldn’t live without the stuff.
Sorry you have a cold Amazon, I had one a few weeks ago and they do make you feel lousy. Be kind to yourself and don’t overdo the exercise, you know your body needs rest to heal itself. Plus you are celebrating after all! Better to keep practising maintenance and take your time, you will get to goal eventually.

Happy your freezer sounds wonderful, lots of foraging in there! When you said ‘OH started some wine’ I thought you meant he opened a bottle to enjoy while you cooked, then I realised you meant started making some! What is going into that?

Wild weather in Melbourne at present, just walked to the letter box and nearly lost my hat in the wind. Very bracing for walking in – hat, gloves, scarf and two coats – I am fasting after all! Now for a hot bowl of soup.

    Hi Nama,

Exercise is not on the agenda today as my body is telling me no.
I’ve lots to keep me occupied as I can spend a couple of hours in the kitchen making coleslaw etc and if I get bored there is a huge pile of clean laundry that needs ironing :yuck:

It’s windy here too and overcast but warm enough to go out without a jacket. I walked to the newsagent to buy a paper as they’ve all got Andy on the front page.

It was a good weekend for British tennis players winning not just the mens singles but the mens wheelchair singles and doubles, Gordon Reid winning both πŸ™‚ with Alfie Hewett (also British) partnering him in the doubles, a British woman Jordanne Whiley winning the womens wheelchair doubles with her Japanese partner and Heather Watson winning mixed doubles with her Finnish partner in their first tournament together. It is the first time for decades that a British women has won anything at Wimbledon πŸ™‚

I am impressed with Happy’s use of freezer food especially turning berries into wine and damsons making gin taste even better! My granny and I used to pick sloes at the end of the summer and add them to gin which we would open at Christmas. Delicious stuff but more than a glass made carving the turkey rather difficult πŸ˜‰

I’ve got plums and blackcurrants that need to be used. I am planning on some unhealthy but delicious blackcurrant ice cream and plum chutney as there are more empty jars than full on the chutney shelf.

Time to start doing rather than chatting about it!

    Hi Nama,

This wine will be raspberry, with rhubarb next. I may have to make more redcurrant jelly, and the blackcurrants will be gifted to family for puddings I think.

Re: the damsons. I distinctly remember freezing them, as we’d picked loads and I sternly said we couldn’t turn them all into alcohol… Hmmm. How wrong I was!

Amazon, I’ve made spiced damson/ plum chutney previously. Very nice. But we’re bigger eaters of pickles/ chilli jam/ piccalilly these days.

I can see you setting up a little roadside stall, Happy: ☺
“Come and get your organic produce at Happy and Grumpy’s” P

Then Happy could retire from her real job cos she would make a fortune with her fresh, organic produce!(mo) (mo) πŸ™‚
