Hi Doggy , thank you for sharing your story, it is very valuable to me. I too have been on every single diet and always alone and always failing. My family are very supportive but I am the person with the excess weight to lose

Hi,
I have been reading this thread for the last half an hour, thought I would introduce myself as you seem like just the supportive people I am looking for.
I’m a solo mum to 3 lovely but extremely busy kids and I work full time. I do cheerleading for a hobby ( no I don’t shake pom poms just incase you ask… what I do is allstar cheerleading and we are a parents team so we aren’t highly skilled lol) but I am finding I am not happy with how I look and how I feel and I really want to look awesome in my cheer uniform this year 🙂 I’m actually a trained personal trainer but it wasn’t for me. and I have tried all the fads, diets etc and just want something sustainable.
I am starting the 5:2 diet very quietly (not telling anyone at the moment because I need to get it all right in my head first) so I am trying to find a lovely supportive group that I can chat to , whinge to when things get tough and generally share tips and tricks with as well 🙂
so fast day #1 today and I must say it has been easier than anticipated.
Finished dinner at 7.30 last night, got up at 7 this morning, had a green tea on the way to work as well as some water.
I was a bit nauseous about 9am but pushed through I, keeping busy at work. Then didn’t eat lunch til 1.30 which was a small tuna, cannellini bean salad with spinach tomato and cucumber. and a few grapes to satisfy my need for something sweet. total of about 190 cals.
I have kept myself going today with peppermint tea and water so its definitely something I can keep doing as long as my body behaves like this 🙂
Its almost 4 and I am going to go have a cup of tea with a little milk to get me through till dinner which wont be until after 7 tonight once I have picked up my littlest from dancing so I do have a small banana with me just in case I get hungry. That or it will be dessert with a tablespoon of natural Greek yoghurt (yum)
about 88 kg at the moment (scales died last night so I will weigh Wednesday and keep that as my weigh in day) and want to get down to 70-75kg , I’m 167cm so not short and have never been super slim but am a size 12 when about 75kg. currently pushing up to a size 18 and I have always said I will never let myself get past that.
its great to find such a supportive Aussie group 🙂
Hey SueJen
Your sweet treat sounds very very yummy and yes, you deserve that.
You are right CG, it looks like fasting will be out of the window when we meet.. Ha ha ha
Well going Taco, you are almost there, dinner time is just around the corner. I am sure that you have planned for dinner already. Some protein and Lots of salad will keep you full longer. Well Done at your first attempt!
Welcome MadamOfMayhem. You know a lot already. When I started 5:2 in October last year, I was at a similar weight as you, which was 84.5 kgs, however I am a shorty at 156 cm, so body fat wise, I had more to loose.
Good idea about keeping it low until you start to see changes and see how effective it is. Till date I have lost 14 kilos (well 2 kilos gained now during 5 weeks holiday) and people complement me about weight loss.
However, when I tell people about fasting and how healthy it is, they don’t agree with this WOL.
So, I try and don’t give it out to everyone as its a difficult concept for a lot of people to understand. I call this Ignorance.
Wish you luck with the fasting, we have done it and we can do it with our strong Determinations.
All the best!!!
Thanks Fatbuster & countrygal. 😀
being a solo mumma to 3 its hard to stick to anything that is too time consuming, so I think this will help as I usually am quite organised with meal planning anyway!
I am doing fasting days on Mon & Thurs so I will join you in the weigh in on Friday 🙂
Hi Taco 🙂 nice to have another newbie to share the experience with 🙂
Us aussies definitely are a supportive bunch 🙂
Afternoon to all AD’s and a BIG WELCOME TO OUR NEW COMERS!
The countdown is really on…. 9 days until the “MEETING IN MELBOURNE” I am so excited to be finally meeting CG and FB! hopefully Andrew will also be able to join us. We will be celebrating birthdays, mine is the 19th April, FB on the 24th and 6MTHS OF BEING TOGETHER ON 5:2. Being able to talk and skype each other has been sooo rewarding for us ,as we have achieved so much with this extra special friendship that has developed. I would love it if we could all meet up. It is something that is not impossible…as we are about to see. YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
OK … now back to 5:2…. I have not lost my 2kgs from 2wks ago. Still holding at 75kgs.I think I am really doing a maintance thing as I may only fast for 24hrs instead of 36hrs. Still anything is possible with this WOL & WOE, so I am not unhappy , the clothes are telling me good thinhgs and that is the best. Have a snuggle night… its chilly on the mid north coast of NSW Australia….GO GALxxx
Woohoo day 1 fast almost done and I feel goods tonight’s dinner was 2 baked eggs with ham, spinach and tomato and a tbsp of Parmesan and a small banana (didn’t need it earlier) with a tbsp of Greek yoghurt. Then a 47cal hot choccy at bed time, brought it specially tonight on the way home so I can replace my nightly cold/hot milo on a fast day.
One thing I will say is I haven’t drunk so much water /herbal tea in a day and went to the loo LOTS!
Off to bed early tonight to get a good night sleep
Hi All,
Wow, you have been busy elves while I’ve been sleeping! Isn’t it great when new people join the thread; it breathes new life and enthusiasm into us all.
Taco – you are doing great and you will find your mind-set, taste buds and food habits changing as time goes on and this all helps with how you can succeed and maintain this WOL.
MoM – warm welcome to you too. As a solo mum of three, you are already incredible! You say you plan meals and are well organized – I’m sure you have to be; so that will be a great help in sticking to 5:2. As you might have seen on an earlier post the 4 Ps are really important – plan, prepare, patience and persevere…..we are all here rooting for you!
I agree that it is good to keep quiet about this WOE until others start noticing and asking you why you look so good. I have come across the sceptics and the negativity of others and it is disheartening. You don’t need that when you are just starting out and trying to get to grips with 5:2 yourself.
Raven – it’s spring here for me too and we have had some lovely bright sunny days lately with beautiful spring flowers popping their heads up everywhere. Not so nice today, but due to improve later in the week.
CG, GG and FB – so excited and thrilled for ye to be meeting up…and mad jealous too!! Can’t wait to hear all about it and best wishes for the birthdays; I’m sure ye will celebrate in true AD style!! 🙂
FD just started for me; had my porridge for breakfast and will have lean beef with lots of veg this evening for dinner. Lots of water and green tea during the day to keep me going.
All the best to my AD pals for the week ahead. <3 xxxx
Hi all, I am back from my weekend in New York with my son. Thanks to all the people who wrote encouraging messages to me, much appreciated.
A fast day today and I am so glad. I am also glad to be back in my own kitchen! I ordered healthy food one night, chicken breast and low carb vegetables which was perfect. However, while waiting, they brought a bowl of something that looked like rice crackers, which when tasted, seemed to be covered in sugar and so moreish. I asked, as I had never had anything like it and they made them on the premises. Later that evening, arrived home and went to the hotel bar. My husband and son had beers and I virtuously went for the coffee, made on water with a dash of milk. Along comes an enormous bowl of nuts, mainly honeyed cashews etc. What was I to do? It is so hard to get it right despite the best
of intentions.
Well, at least the weather is warming up, the last snow is almost gone and I hope to be more enthusiastic about going outside and walking around. At least I did over 15,000 steps on Saturday in NY.
But, enough about me! Welcome to all the newbies, Taco, Madame and others. I hope you do find us to be as helpful as you hope. It really does make a difference being able to share our journeys with others and support them in return. I know there are people who read but never comment but still probably benefit from this thread.
I am excited that I managed to bring home 5 packets of Corn Thins. Who would have thought that bringing home Corn Thins from New York could even be a thing! My son thinks I’m mad! On NFD’s I love to eat them as a bread replacement for lunch as a sandwich. They are lower GI than rice cakes, and I can’t get even thin rice cakes here anyway. They taste better and are more filling. I recommend them to anyone who hasn’t tried them! They are so easily available at home in any supermarket yet here, there are very few stockists in the state where I am living, and even in NY, I had to google special health food shops with names like Amish Market etc to find them.
One other tip, Taco. If I write a long post like this, I tend to copy it before I post so that I can paste again if it gets lost. I learned the hard way!
Best wishes to all. Keep up the good work, you know you can do it!
Hi Up,
Glad you enjoyed your trip to New York. I think you did a great job, making the best choices you could under the circumstances. Now that you are back in your own domain, you will be able to get back on track, no problem. Anyway, spending time with loved ones is more important and this wol is adaptable and meant to work for us; so that we can continue to enjoy life in a way that gives us the best of both worlds. Hope your weather keeps improving – it’s good for the body and the soul. Keep on keeping on! 🙂
Wow few days away and so many posts!! this thread moves at at fast clip!
Big welcome to newbies – may you succeed in all your goals.
Fast day yesterday and Thursday this week as too many functions etc this week. Weight loss will just have to wait this week. 🙂
( I normally do 4:3- fast Monday, Wednesday , and Friday)
Taco – I tend to write longer posts on word or word pad ( or notes on Apple devices) and then copy – paste here.
Thanks CG – time is not the problem, money is! Never mind, they are coming home for a visit later in the year and I’ll get lots of hugs and cuddles with the new arrival then! 🙂
Just coming to the end of my fast day…found it a bit hard at times, mostly because I was feeling very cold (this happened on my last FD too but never before). Tried extra cardie, hot drinks but didn’t really work. Luckily my sister dragged me out for a walk with my dog and I soon felt fine. Must be better prepared for the next one!
Good to hear from you Lotus; you’re right about the busy thread; lots of great posts to catch up on every day. “You snooze; you lose!”
Enjoy the rest of the week, everyone.
Good morning everyone 🙂 thank you for helping me survive my first fast and for the cut and paste tips too. Fit, congratulations on your new baby nephew 🙂 Countrygal, I will be doing lots of ‘light recipe’ research today and as you said, I will make healthy choices , I think I’ll have Vegemite toast / no butter and a glass of wine with my dinner- to chase the cold away. Also, thank you for your encouraging morning posts, they help so much. Lotus, thank you for the welcome and the tip on using notes. Up , your trip sounds like it was amazing and so was/is your determination, also thanks for the long post tip. Suejen, enjoy the lemon and passion fruit pudding, I’ve been thinking of it a lot 🙂
MoMayhem 🙂 we are so lucky , have the best support ever.
CG- I just got an email from the technical support team and I was told that there is a problem with using emoticons ‘they truncate the rest of the message’ , so I’m writing this on notes and I have edited all my smileys off the post. Have a lovely day everyone.
Hello all!
To do with eating out, I did read a (a bit weird but workable) tip on one calorie counting site – tell the service staff to pack half the portion before they serve it , or ask for a takeaway container and pack half before you eat it. This helps if you have a (childhood guilt-induced like me?) need to clean your plate 🙂
Having said that, I did pack half of my sandwich the other day, and ate it later – didn’t miss out not eating the entire sandwich as it wasn’t sitting on the plate calling out my name 🙂
Fit – you are a true-blood Aussie now!! Congrats on cute new addition to the family 🙂
Morning all another FD done and dusted. Scales didn’t alter for the first time ever but never mind on with our enjoyable NFD’s. Uptight gotta love that you’re so excited about packets of Corn thins in the US. Ha! But they will help you a lot. Lotus really like your attitude that weightloss will just have to wait this week tis true & you’re working around the social things best way you can. Fit congrats on confirming your honorary aussie status even more with a new grand-nephew, & how fabulous that you’ll see them this year.
Taco & Mayhem congrats on your first FD down. Gets easier & easier & you get into a rhythm. Yes I’m looking forward to that pudding. OH says it’s the best he’s ever had. You can find it here if you’d like a small portion like me (simple too): http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/640/coconut+and+passionfruit+self+saucing+pudding But I substituted Carnation coconut light evaporated milk, and of course hilo/skim milk. Helps the calories. As to light recipes I find a lot of mine at http://www.52recipes.co.uk/ and lots on this site too.
Have a wonderful day all with our WOE and choose those foods you were hanging out for yesterday & enjoy them in wise proportions. suejen
Good Morning ADs
And a big congratulations Fit for the cute addition to the family. i am sure you are waiting for the cuddles.
Upt, love your idea of corn thins and love love love your determination. You are doing it right gal, so don’t worry about little nibbles here and there. I’d like to say, would you do all this and take extra care while on holidays if you were not conscious about your diet. You are taking the right steps, Congrats on that!!! Hope you enjoy the holidays to fullest!!!
Well Done Taco and MoM for the completion of first fast. We all can promise that it will start to get better with each fast. It will become second nature very soon. Just stick to it.
CG, why stay away from the spuds???? I love my Spuds…. yes in moderation though. Me thinks:- if we eat spuds in right way, they have lots of nutrition to offer and very filling too. I don’t fry up the spuds (I agree they taste best when fried 🙂 ) But I love my spud salads (no creamy dressings)
Fast day done and dusted yesterday, finished at 460 cals… Yayyyyyy!!!
Today, lunch is a big bowl full of spinach, beetroot and pumpkin salad, with some tasty cheese and low fat sour cream. All weighed and measured up at 280 cals. Its amazing how 280 cals can be so delicious and filling.
Dinner planned as well:- Spud salad (sweet potatoes) Yummmm…
If all goes by plan I think I will be able to finish within 1200 cals for the day. 4 P’s…. Aaahh!!! Thanks GG 🙂
Thanks for the congrats everyone! A new life brings such joy into the world. It’s lovely to see the next generation starting to grow and I’m sure they will all be close, like the previous ones, even though they will probably be more scattered across the globe.
I totally agree about the portion sizes, I can’t believe the amount of food I used to pile onto my plate! Now, I put out alot less, especially of carbs, and I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything. So for all our newbies – hang on in there, there are lots of good changes coming your way and not just in your weight.
Hello everyone and welcome MOM – I love the name it conjures up an house full of noisy kids. I can relate to that. I’ve just spent the past half an hour or so reading all your interesting posts. CG , GG & I think Fitto to meet in Melbourne. How exciting. We moved to Tassie some 13 years ago And I still miss Melbourne. The MCG, Tennis, theatres, restaurants etc. so enjoy your time together. Eat drink and be merry and back to the 5:2 later.
Taco and MOMS, may I suggest as you say you have a lot of weight to loose, that you break your goals down to smaller steps. ie. Aim to loose 10 kilos and once you’ve reached that goal, try for another ten. That way it will not look so insurmountable. Of course you can loose the weight and we will all be here with you every step of the way.
I had my own breakthrough with new pup Pepper today. He needed to out to wee at twoish( B cold it was ) but then went back to sleep till after six. I feel great for the good night’s sleep.
I too have just back from grocery shopping with a big load of vegies. Plus I must add a lovely leg of lamb that I’m going to roast tomorrow with all the trimmings. We all need our little treats don’t we?
Cheers all and enjoy your day Doggy.
In relation to serving up smaller portions etc and not eating leftovers and the like I do this. When I’ve cooked up a meal that serves 4 or 6 (only me and OH) when dishing up I get out containers and divide the meal up straight away – one serve for us both & the other 2 serves into a container & into the fridge/freezer. Then I don’t cheat by either coming back & sneaking a bit more, or deciding as I’m serving up that a bit more wouldn’t hurt. Also helps to keep the calories correct as listed. Works really well with things like sauces/stews/casseroles/slow cooked meals.
But had a funny incident other day. Cooked dinner but had to go out early. Explained to OH as this was a 6 person meal for a FD (so 1 serve me, 2 serves him) that when dishing up could he put 1 spoonful onto my plate, 2 onto his, & then 3 into the container for next time until it was all served up. OH only listened to part of this & I came back to this tiny little meal of 1 serving spoonful, no idea what he had & all the rest still in the pan. LOL gotta love em don’t you! He says But you said Just one spoonful for you. sj
