  • Good Morning Determinators.
Bali, aren’t you amazing….. You have done so so well. Missing one fast in 7 months is great effort. And as CG said, ithat a romantic dinner with live of your life is always worrh breaking the fast. However, you still did good at 1100 cals, congratulations.
Aaah, i need to throw out my big undies n get the new sexy n comfortable ones too 😉
I still wear size 14 undies sone days but thetmy are way too big now. Thanks for the shopping tips GG. Really helpful.
Off to another super busy day at work. This will help as I am also dasting today (lotus, fit….fast Buddies) LOL

Hello team. Interesting topic of undies. The men in our team also wear underpants ( I hope) so they too need to be comfortable. CG I go for the full brief too. I’m presently biding my time before I head off to Targets to get new ones. I too have been to a bra fitter and if things progress as they are will need to go back in. A few months to get remeasured.
Weigh day here and scales are the same but my waist & thighs are down by the odd centimetre. So I’m happy. I’d don’t know how you keep your stats but I keep a chart ( it’s a nurse habit ) I have the date, weight and measurements form the day I started. It great to look at and see how I’ve come down in every department in three months.
I don’t know about you team but I LOVE Friddays. Three days of no fasting only sensible eating – give or take a bit. I enjoy my wine so am not prepared to give that up. I’m defiantly able to go without but don’t want this WOL to become just another restrictive diet.
Fitto I think it was you that gave the link to the ABC website article. It makes of r interesting reading.
Happy Friday team and joy of joys our new pump is installed and we have water on tap.
    Cheers Doggy. XX

Yay for you Doggy, tap water finally ! I am sure your OH is celebrating too (no more trips with the pump lol)
On charts – I use the one on the tracker on this site. Do you do a hand-drawn one? Or an Excel sheet one?

Morning team, I use the tracker on this site too. No change for me this week either…up a few 100g but ignoring that…. 🙂 not going to change my frame of mind for the day. Beautiful Autumn day, still lots of sorting to do, so much, so big, wont hoard this time, just get rid of it, being christen hope someone else can get use of it…too good to toss so onto the op shop. SO MY FITBIT ARRIVED so hope there is driving instructions in the box. No idea about these things but quite computer illiterate so hope I have no probs. Another blinkin gadget to watch numbers on, don’t know if I need that pressure but don’t want to be the only kid ………… I’ll let you know how I go once I learn to drive it 🙁 …. 🙂 …… I’ll see?
Have a great day, you’ll never get this one back so live it…enjoy it…be grateful for the gift……and smile, it does make you feel good (and makes everyone else wonder what you’ve been up to 🙂 ) ….. CG xxxxxx

    CG
The instruction on my Garmin one was basically to download the app and sync the device to the iPad/iPhone. The Fitbit should be similar 🙂 Have fun with it, one more tool to play with in our toolbox for a healthier WOL.
Smiling at your last sentence, and as I was, I had a few people at nearby desks looking at me in askance, pro’lly wondering, what is she grinning about?? 🙂

Glad you liked it Lotus, it’s a very very old little plaque I have sitting in the lou! So many come out smiling, I know why!. .. 🙂 CG xxx

HI Team very late posting today. Another FD for me (never done a B2B before) as yesterday got shattered when old friends came for afternoon tea, & then they stayed for dinner & we bought thai takeaway. Great catch-up. Was so determined to lose this week that when the scales said nup this morning I decided I could do it! And it’s been ok I think because we’ve been so busy with last minute cleaning/ setting out etc for OH open studio tomorrow. So with all that cleaning I reckon I should be ok & will weigh-in tomorrow. One day I’ll get in sync with you all.
As to the undies discussion yep I too wear Cottontails but I have already bought some brightly coloured Bonds ones that I thought were bikini but they were boyleg, & they’re actually not a bad style (bit more supporting than bikini style I think). Just waiting for a few more cms off to wear them. Sick of white, beige and black!!
Hope you all had a great day & are looking forward to a more relaxed weekend with some non guilty pleasures…mmm can almost taste that wine already. suejen
PS I use the tracker on this site too but also have an excel chart that I’ve been keeping from before 5:2. I can add more detail into that one as I like.

    Hi All!
Just love waking up to see all your posts every morning. It reminds me of the story of ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’, where the shoemaker used to come down every morning to see that the elves had been very busy during the night!! My routine is to make my breakfast and then settle down with a coffee to read what you all have been up to…great way to start the day! Can’t believe we’re on a new page already 🙂
Bali – I think you’re terrific, to have special meal with your OH and still come in at 1100 and first fast broken in 7 months…brilliant!
Doggy – it wasn’t me who gave the link, but it was interesting article. So glad you now have water, we sure take it for granted until it’s gone, don’t we? Well done on losing the cms too, it all counts. I use the tracker on this site and MFP, but also like to keep old-fashioned diary for all sorts of details and appointments that I can flick over and back to as often as necessary.
CG – as ever, you put a smile on everyone’s face! 🙂
Suejen – you’re right, keeping busy is great way to get through fast days (NFDs too) and you end up with cleaner house and halo shining too, what’s not to love about that?!
Enjoy the weekend everybody, wherever you are and whatever you’re up to! 😉

Doggie, it was me who gave the link. Glad you found it useful.

On the topic of undies I get something from target that is stretchy but are high cut in the leg so that while high briefs, they don’t look it!I need something firm. And they make your legs look longer!

Struggling over here in the U.S ladies. I am heavier than when I arrived. Fasting isn’t so easy. Eating out a lot too. Hard to order a salad in cold weather and you never know what you will end up with even when it sounds healthy. Off to New York today to visit my son, but will be in a hotel so on it goes.

I am not giving up, but 1 kilo over is not good and I don’t want it to be the thin end of the wedge. I want to lose weight, not even just stay the same and before I come home, I want to shop!
I am happy for those who are continuing to lose or maintain.

Sign outside a restaurant down town: “Calories are the tiny little critters that live in your closet and sew your clothes a little bit tighter each night.” LOL thank goodness our clothes are going the other way! Gnight all. Sj

Uptight! Don’t worry, sometimes weight does go up and it is difficult in a new place when you are travelling and eating out regularly. You have found a great WOL here, you can and will reduce when back on it. Stay in touch though in this thread, so you dont forget the goal 🙂 .
Will look up some weight loss tips for you from The States – see if you can apply them?
SJ- love the image that quote created 🙂
Something like Fit’s Elves and the Shoemaker. Calories are busy little critters aren’t they?
    Xx

Hey Up – it’s very difficult when you’re at the mercy of shops and restaurants abroad, especially when the U.S is known for huge portions and for loading food with salt and sugar. I can only suggest you try to cook from raw for yourself as much as possible, keep carbs to a minimum, eat veg that grow above the ground and limit your portion size when you’re out. Salads in cold weather are not appealing at all! Having said all that, we all know when you get back home, you will get right back on track and all will be well.
Lotus, Suejen – those calorie critters are certainly evil little elves!! 😉

    Morning All

A little 0.3kg to day but as the saying goes “What you eat today, walks and talks tomorrow” is very true. Too much over easter but a loss and I’m on my way to breaking into the 77’s.

Really appreciate the AD’s for subject matters that we probably all think about but dont talk about – undies (what makes you feel comfortable/good is all that matters) really hate to see any of us pulling the undies out of our backsides (not a good look!).

BlueDress – after being on thyroid medication for so many years forgot about the milk..did read it somewhere years ago but love my milk so I don’t think I could go without. Have noticed that if I have a hot chocolate with lite milk then I feel sluggish and tired.

What I learned this week is that the taste buds do change. A long craving of smith’s chips…chocolate then chips (big downfall). Well watching TV, little tired but that show I was watching got me in…crave smith chips…no…. crave smith chips….no….crave smith chips….ok. 2 small packets later …horrible taste, oily and bland. Not a favorite anymore. Maybe a pinch of salt will be all that is required in the future.

    Have a lovely week everyone.

Good morning team. Upt, I really feel for you, I know what it’s like just with temptations in the house Xmas/Easter but you’re living with temptation full time. It is difficult to order soup or salad when eating out with so much yummy stuff to try and the weather is so cold. The only meal, healthy, I can think of is stirfry’s or any of the Asian meals, but I guess that’s no always possible to. Other than when you’re at home and having very low cal fresh meals, especially if you know you’re eating out that night is all I can suggest. It’s also easy to offer suggestions when not sitting in that atmosphere taking in the sights and lovely smells. Hang in there, we ARE here for you, you are probably doing better than you think, so enjoy time with your son in New York, more temptation, but this is all the chance of a life time so enjoy it. Our 5:2 is always here and because your conscious of what you’re eating it is still helping.just not having the sweets with dinner helps, so instead of thinking of what you’re having, think of all the foods you are NOT having 🙂
Fit, I felt like the shoe maker this morning too, so many post to read with my coffee, it’s lovely.
SJ, wonderful quote….and oh so true!
Jen 0.3 is nothing to stress about, could be food still in transit? But we do zigzag, when we were carrying all that excess weight we probably did then too, but we didn’t check the scales as often or at all. It’s easy to be self critical but try not to be, the scales ARE controling, ignore them, most of us fluctuate 1-2k and it’s natural. That’s why it’s suggested we weigh in the same time each week, but that too can be a bit off 🙁
Well the week end is here, this is your time, no stress, take the shackles off and teach yourself to relax. I’m not counting cals, just healthy food choices and portion control Plus a few wines or a whiskey and zero, life goes on, our 5:2 is PART of our life NOT all of it. Don’t follow the path, make some tracks team… 🙂 CG xxxxx

Jen I forgot to say, yes the taste buds certainly alter, I had a slice of “light” cheese which I used to like, all I could taste was salt! ….CG xx

Morning all ADers. Gosh, miss a couple of days and a couple of pages to read! So good to hear how everyone of going. Even with chocolate eggs. Lotus I know I’m coming later to the ‘undies’ party but I’ve found the knickers at Target with lycra in work well, they have full brief and hipsters that just have that little bit of support and are in super colours too. Now that it is cooling down a bit of lycra is not too hot. Best bit, they are only $6 each. I wear the hipsters and they come up a hit higher as I am seriously challenged in the middle section, just another couple of inches between bust and waist would be nice 🙂 I buy size 16 for comfort and no bulges but their sizes are whacko so try them on.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Hello AD’s
Look Lotus, you started such a hot topic on undies. We all want to say n give our thoughts out on that…. Very interesting. We never think that such a small thing can have a big impact on us… Lol

Jenmic 0.3 is not a gain… Your body is just adjusting. I know the feeling, when we get on scales, we hope to see a loss. We all know if the loss is not there today, will be there tomorrow or day after as you are taking all the right steps…

Upt, really really really understand that you are scared to think about a gain. But you are on a holiday, you are much more in control already. So just enjoy the time as you are on HOLIDAYS!!!!
When I went on holidays, my plan was to fast atleast once a week. But that plan was out of the window as soon as I reached India. I ate n drank to my heart’s content for 5 weeks. (Not saying that it was tge right thing to do)
All that I did was, made a conscious effort to stop when I was satisfied with taste n ate very minimum or no fried food. Oil has heaps of cals, so I reckon avoiding fried food was a good idea. I gained 3 kilos in 5 weeks. I knew that this will happen as I ate way too much n had alcohol almost every day…

Could not fast yesterday as plans changed. And will fast tomorrow as hubby starts back on 5:2 tomorrow as well.

And yes, my weigh in day today. Lost 0.5 kilos, so, current weight is 72kgs.
Happy with small loss as I just fasted once this week.
2.5 kilos more to go before i get to my pre holidays weight…

    Ultimate goal: 63 kgs

Its going to be a Loooooong road…..(9 kilos to reach goal)

    Let’s rock n roll

Weigh-in day today also. Lost .4kg and hit 73.7. I was aiming for the 73’s so I’m totally happy with that. My B2B did the trick. And lost 3cm off bust & hip. So all good. Friend just called in & commented how good I was looking & was it 5:2 that was doing it – Yeah!
Fat my goal is 64 so I have a long road ahead too but steady as she goes will do it.
Uptight I know exactly how you feel. My son lives in the US & we go over every 2 years, and the food choices & serving sizes are atrocious. And you generally don’t get offered the healthy choices as we do here in restaurants/cafes – it’s all huge fry-ups, and chips/wedges/potato cubes on the side with everything…and everything comes with at least one side if not more! So I totally get you but I so agree with others who are chiming in that you must enjoy your holiday..and just start over when you get back. No good beating yourself up when the whole food industry in the USA is geared up to serving super-size meals/drinks/etc with loads of sugar & additives – like even the bread is sweet. Just make healthy choices when you can, if you know you’re going to eat out have a HB egg for brekky & lunch & you won’t do so much damage. Or eat 1/2 what they serve you & ask for a container – that’s pretty standard over there, even with simple things like sandwiches as they’re so darn huge. And enjoy your holiday & the food & just remind yourself that every healthy choice you get to make will limit the amount you gain. And that’s a plus for you. I always PLAN to eat well when I go on holidays but my plans simply fly out the door – but the food is some of my best memories too! No biggie!
Have a great day all and enjoy whatever knickers you’re in!!! (talk about out topics of conversation – luvit!). suejen

Hello everyone. Another weary Doggy here AGAIN. I was up at 5am with Pepper and then the dog across the road started to bark so I couldn’t get back to sleep. Then to puppy school. I feel like the mum with the naughtiest kid in the school. He gets so excited that it’s all quite exhausting.
Lotus no I don’t use a Excel spreadsheet, just a handmade one. I use the one on site here too. I just like to keep mine in the bathroom drawer to jot down the measurements and then transfer them. I’m no doubt making extra work for myself.
I love all the analogies re elves, calories etc. CG don’t be too hard on yourself. If you can use an iPad and use this site you are not computer illiterate. Good luck with the new gizmo. I don’t have one either. Have I told you that recently I taught my 60 + neighbour how to use her Samsung tablet. She was so unsure of herself but picked up really quickly. She’d never used a computer before.
It’s good to have a NDD today. Last night we had Thai Green curry and I’ve decided that we are having it again tonight. Luckily MOH is not a fussy eater.
    Enjoy your weekend all
    Doggy XX

Greetings, all. I’m not posting much, but I am here by your sides on our journey together. Good stories and results reporting in.

Interesting reaction to the chips, JenMic. I am finding chips a bit bland and stodgy nowadays, too, so resist having them in the house. Fortunately OH and son are not interested in them. As the others have said, there has to be zigs to get zags – as long as the trend is in the right direction. 🙂 . Now I have just read your recent post… All good!

Doggy, my post came out wrong, I meant I am computer literate, must stop using the spell check with my ipad……but worked out the firbit, just and expensive pedometer which I never had luck with…..I count some steps and they read a different number….go figure….anyway I’ve got it now. Just having TWO lovely grilled ( sandwhich maker) cheese onion and tomato sandwiches oh so simple and so so yum. Rarely eat bread these days and not much cheese either, but blown any worries about the count today….and enjoying every mouthful! 🙂

    Hi All!
Jenmic – you’re doing great; just keep on keeping on, you know it’s working! You will see the 77s very soon.
FB – you are the proof that Up needs for reassurance that all will be well when she comes back from the U.S. Well done you on half a kg down already – brilliant!
Suejen – fab loss for you too ( in the 73s, woohoo!) and great words of wisdom for Up. Everyone here is so supportive and encouraging, we can’t help but succeed.
Poor Doggy – so sorry that your little mate still not settling, hope he grows out of it soon, thank God for dog years – he should be old enough in no time! 😉
Going to try three FDs this week, or maybe semi FDs if that’s too hard because I have lots of lovely family celebrations coming up. One of my gorgeous nieces, who lives in Sydney, is coming home for a few weeks next Wed and her sister, who lives in France is coming home with her OH and two little girls to join in the fun. Also one my sisters is celebrating a big birthday and we are all renting a holiday house in the beautiful west of Ireland for a big ‘knees-up’. Can’t wait! 🙂 🙂

Fit what a fabulous time you have coming up. Don’t worry to much with 5:2 get out and make some wonderful memories with your family. The short time wont effect much, only a fast away and things back to normal, enjoy… 🙂 CG xxx

Good morning or good day depending where in the world you happen to be. Re time differences. A few years ago hubby and I shouted ourselves a trip to Canada with Scenic Tours. We went via LA. When we arrived there it was still yesterday in Oz. No wonder the poor body goes into jet lag mode.
I’m feeling sorry for myself today as I have nasty spinal pain. I haven’t had it for ages for which I’m so very thankful. To compmensate, I cooked up a disgusting brekky of fried eggs, bacon, mushrooms on toast. It’s no doubt a whole weeks worth of calories. It was very yummy though. Tomorrow will be another FD so Ill be back on the 500 calorie job. I still have a few frozen rats as I call them – ratouillie. If I’m feeling energetic enough I’ll make Lotus’s veg and tofu soup. Yesterday I had a browse through the recipe section of other threads. I came across quite a few good ones which I copied and pasted.
CG yes my iPad also auto corrects. It annoys me as I’m usually a good speller. I just love it though and am going to treat myself with a new one with 125 G memory. I love addiobooks and with all the other stuff I have one it find I need more memory.
Cheers all and enjoy the last NFD before tomorrow.
    Doggy. XX

Good morning team, Doggy. , don’t beat yourself up, I somehow think it does us good to have a splurge. Yesterday, I had 2 sandwiches 4 slices of bread, last night chicken kiev and chips with gravy, woke hungry this morning, I mean really hungry so 2 more bread/toast with cheese vegemite and butter (and I never have breakfast) yet as much as I wasn’t going to weigh this weekend, I’m a k lighter than yesterday. Doesn’t seem right but maybe the body feels it being fed and doesn’t need to store as much? Who knows, but eating normally as first 5:2 plans were and will just fast Mon and Thurs…see what happens with no counting on NF days. 🙂 i also think you body lets you know what it yearns, as with your breaky Enjoy your day you had a yummy healthy breaky so be glad 🙂 I sat up very late last night with all the cricket stuff on, so maybe that’s why I’m so hungry today. Roast chicken tonight….don’t cha just luv this WOL…. 🙂 CG xxxxx

Afternoon Team where is everybody? All busy no doubt. Well sounds like we’re all busy eating yummy food. I too had a toasted sandwich for lunch which I love. I agree CG that your body lets you know what it yearns & sometimes you should just go with it. I bought a coffee yesterday & got tempted into buying the last muffin on the counter. MAN it was big. Despite the peach in it I’m sure the calories were worth a whole meal. Justified it to myself as I had a 1/2 for lunch & then a 1/2 for afternoon tea – surely that must have cut the cals in half, didn’t it??!! No wonder we put on weight when we eat stuff like that every day or even every 2nd day (like I used to when I was working full-time.
Weather here is patchy with rain but at least we have sporadic bits of sun peeking through today, so might tempt more people to come to our open studio.
Fit enjoy all that family…sounds like a lot of fun and plenty of eating so just enjoy it. Family times are so special.
Enjoy your feeding/feasting whichever you wish to call it before we fast tomorrow. sjXX
And note to self MUST take a big walk today too in between the showers.

Good afternoon , I hope it’s ok for me to join you. I have been reading your posts and have found your motivation and support for each other inspirational. I need to lose between 30 to 35 kilos – if not more, I will be weighing myself tomorrow afternoon. I am looking forward to getting rid of my belly and enjoying the health benefits associated with weight loss. I have hit rock bottom and I need to do something to get rid of this weight.

Hi Tacofox you are very welcome. You have certainly come to the right place for motivation and support. And to lose those pesky kilos that we all need to do. Hitting rock bottom is often the very thing we need to make us sit up and actually do something about our weight – and 5:2 is an extremely doable WOL. We will celebrate with you in your losses and support you when you have a whinge, or you’ve plateaued. Anything is welcome! We talk about everything, as you’ve probably seen, from undies to fitbits to recipes. Gogal has the best advice for you and that is the 4P’s that I’ve adopted: Plan, Prepare, Patience and Perseverance. So if you’re fasting tomorrow look ahead and plan what your 500 calories will be so you’re all set to go, and keep those fluids up all day. They really do help to fill you up. suejen

Hi Tacofox, you must wonder where the hell we all are, very quiet today for some reason. You are more than welcome to join our team on this wonderful 5:2 journey, and it wont just be your belly that you will lose. The weight will come off all over. It doesn’t happen over night but quite quickly. The first few weeks you do part with a lot of fluid so expect quite a few toilet trips, and you’ll notice the numbers on the scales going down. The tough time starts with the fat. That’s a bit slower but close to a k a week, even slower some times but stick with it. With our help and AUSSIE DETERMINATION we will walk the journey with you. We have a great team, ask questions, one of the members will answer you, questions come the longer you are with 5:2. So good luck stick with it, the fasting days become easier with time, remember to keep the fluids up, hot tea and coffee help because you may feel a bit chilly on fast days…welcome aboard…CG :). Xxx

Taco, why are you weighing tomorrow arvo? Most of us fast Mon and Thursday. We don’t usually eat breakfast, just a tea or coffee and hold off til 11.00-1.00 and have a hard boiled egg or some soup. .(miso soup in packets at the Supermarket is very good)..even both, it’s very low cal……no bread…. If you get hungry mid arvo (I make a capuccino at home) another hard boiled egg if you wish, but a hot flavoured tea usually works, then veg and a small amount of protein for dinner…chicken breast, fish….even as a stir fry, you do learn as you go on, there is no outlay, so just use what you have in the fridge. Always keep check of your cals, most of us use MyFitnessPal which help calculate and keep track of what you eat, it’s free to download and easy to use. I hope this helps you start your journey with is… 🙂 CG xx

Sorry suejen, our posts crossed, I wonder if halving the muffin into two sittings halves the cals…mmmmmm doubt it 🙁 but so long as you enjoyed it, what’s it matter 🙂 CG xxx

    Hi Suejen and Countrygal,

Thank you for welcoming me and offering me you help and support. I am looking forward to starting my fast day. I have tried everything else and have failed every time. This time I feel confident that I will succeed. I am sick and tired of my weight, my knee hurts and so do my heels, my clothes are uncomfortable and I look awful! I am planning and doing all I need to do in order to succeed once and for all. I will make a vege broth and I will definitely have lots of warm tea to stay warm. Thank you for the advice, it’s good not to be aloe in this journey. Once again, thank you 🙂

    Hi Countrygal,

I was going to weigh myself as I don’t know how heavy I am – the last time I checked my weight was before Christmas and I was 90kg. I am sure I’ve put on more weight since

    Hi All!
Thanks for all the advice to enjoy my family time….and I certainly will; there are a few peach schnapps with my name on them i reckon! However, all things in moderation, I don’t want a repeat of last weekend, thank you very much!!!!! 😉
Taco – delighted to have new voice here and we will do everything we can to keep you on this path until you start to see the benefits for yourself. As we have all found, it is important not to think of this as a diet, but a way of life, which is very doable and sustainable. Two fast days of 500 cals per week and other days keep to your TDEE (the amount of calories you are allowed to eat based on you height, age, level of activity etc). Your TDEE can be calculated by clicking on HOW IT WORKS at the top of the screen. This WOL (way of life) is definitely a marathon, not a sprint and we all need the four Ps that suejen mentioned above. If you notice that I seem to be posting in the middle of the night, that’s because I live in Ireland, but these great people on this thread have conferred honorary Aussie status on me as I have relations in and near Sydney!!!
Best of luck to ye all for the week ahead.
P.S. Taco – weigh first thing in the morning, (in the nip, after you go to the loo), it’s your lightest time and will be a more consistent way to compare your weight each week.

Fit, all great advise for Taco, the only thing I’d like to add Taco is YOU ARE NOT ALONE, we all are here for you, we all came to 5:2 because we felt the way you do now….but that will not last long, your whole life style and way of eating will change, and you never feel restricted or as if you are on a diet. If possible start tomorrow with us, boil up a couple of eggs if the hungries hit but calculate them into you 500 cals. Water and teas do help as often it is thirst you are feeling, and try to plan NOW what you’ll have for dinner….good luck.. CG xxx

Thank you everyone, I am so looking forward till tomorrow. Your support and kind comments mean the world to me

Hello, Raven3’from Portland, Oregon here. I forgot monetarily that you are all entering autumn as we are fully into spring here. Very mild winter so Spring has spring in full force. Have weathered the first week of the 5:2 very well. The first FD was tough, but the second easier. Upped my walking, tried some HIT, but due to not reading the book thoroughly first ended up hurting myself. ADVICE! Read instructions thoroughly. :-).

Am very lucky that my hubby is doing this with me. This is the first time, as he is very slim to begin with and neve thought he neded something like this until he read mosley’s book. It was the health benefits that pulled him in. We are doing our FD together today starting with a hike. One HB egg to start. I will try my first FD on a work day this week.

Here is what I learned on my first week so far. I didn’t swoon in a faint from lack of food, or develop a head ache so severe I had to take to my bed. ( headaches improved be the way). I don’t need to nibble to “keep my energy up” And actually lightened my calories during the week to about 900-1000 per day until yesterday and felt okay most of the time. Got rid of the caffeinated coffee and replaced with decaf. I find that the caffeinated coffee made my hunger pangs worse not better but that may be due to other factors for me. . I included two walks of four miles and for the first time in 6 months my knees didn’t hurt! Felt really good afterwards. Off for another hinge today.
I knew there will be tough days, but am see that this is a life style and not a temporary fix. Am excited about finally getting this weight off and doing something for my RA.
Anyone out there have vestibular issues( vertigo, damaged inner ear?)
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

    Hi Everyone

Raven3 I have had Vertigo over the years (not an ongoing problem but maybe a bout every 2-3 years). Horrible but I believe mine is a silent migrane and the warning signs do appear with hayfever/sinus. Fighting it now since last Friday not to get a migrane. My migrane doesn’t have a headache but dizzy head, feeling like I could vomit (but I still eat real rubbish) stiff shoulder and neck along with what feels like water in the ear …if not careful into vertigo. Will pop the hayfever tablets and nasal sprays to try to clear and not move my head too much.

I would be interested in other peoples replies on this one. Doing a FD today with lots of green tea.

Good morning team, very cold this morning and frosty but magnificant day coming up. Raven, you are doing so well, don’t over do things, especially this early on, our 5:2 is a WOL so must be sustainable. It’s wonderful that you are so keen and that your OH is doing it with you but unless that exercise level is normal for you it may become a chore. 5:2 is basically a WOE (way of eating) more than anything and moderate exercise. What you have learnt is just so true. We have been conned into believing so many wrong ways of eating mainly through advertising and once we realise this a healthier life is so much easier.
Jenmic, I have always suffered from migrains but I get cluster migranes where my vision goes, I see stars and it all looks like I’m under water. This is called a migraine halo. I have lost my speach and appear to others as if I’m having a stroke. I can go months and months without one the have 5-6 in a week. I do have medication which I take at the first warning one is coming and they often stop the pain kicking in. I have no know trigger, have tried chiropractor for neck manipulation sometimes it works and others useless. They are debilitating but a fact of life for me.my Dad suffered badly but seemed to lessen as he aged. Hoping mine will be the same.
Have a great fasting day team, keep the fluids up, if you get chilly put a cardigan on and drink flavoured teas. Remember how proud you feel when you get into bed and you have eaten under 500cals for the day. 🙂 it’s a feeling of accomplishment and so very easy, especially as you do more and more.
We are what we think, so think positive thoughts, YOU CAN DO IT ….. 🙂 CG xxxxx

    Hello,

Thanks for the advice Countrygal. Yes, I have been a walker for many years and let myself slack off this past year. Will need to curb my enthusiasm as you say as I did pay the price doing some other new exercise which I needed to ease into.

My vertigo has been with me for 25+ years and it has been 8 MRI’s and numerous practitioners who have said that most likely I have a damaged inner ear, which can not be mended. I have difficulty with it every day. I did notice that my vertigo improved this past week, and I think it has to do with how food effects fluid in the ears.

I also noticed that I was having some trouble mid day with it so I ate half an egg and half a tangerine and will minus the calories this evening to stay at 500. I don’t think it was lack of food but because my ears are so finicky. It did help.

This past 10 days or so I have also eaten all but one of my meals in an 8 hour window, starting at 11 and eating by 6 or 7. I had some very bad evening habits thinking that I needed to eat or I wouldn’t fall asleep, and as I had some rather problematic sleep awhile back I was skittish. I have slept well to pretty well so far. It is so liberating to rid myself of some of the myths which were really affecting my health.

I am finishing up my FD and wish whoever is FD now a great day. Toodles from Portland Oregon.

Welcome Taco, we are always pleased to have new members here. I won’t bored you by repeating what others have advised re the diet. Just a brief potential history of myself. I was skinny all my life. When I hit retirement I started to put on weight. I tried this Atkins Diet and did loose weight BUT it is just not sustainable. The majority of us just cannot live on a high protein, low carb diet. I’ve lost 8 kilos in three months and feel so much better for it. I’ve a way to go yet but just content to let it happen slowly. This diet is very different. It is scientifically proven and is not difficult. Also the psychology behind it is good. We are restricted in what we can eat today but tomorrow we can eat anything again. Naturally if one chooses to pig out and eat junk food and other rubbish the diet will not work. All of us fall off the wagon occasionally and will dive into the lollies or chips or whatever but then we just move forward again. As your seen no topic is beyond us.
FD here too. I had a low cal soup for brekky. Will have a light protein lunch, egg and small serve smoked salmon and then Tofu and veg soup for dinner. Easy peasy.
Take care all and as CG so often says – WE CAN DO THIS.
    cheers Doggy. XX

Oops please excuse the typos. I’m sure you csn work out what I mean.

GG…where are you, I hope all is well with your Dad, I’ve tried to get you at home, but no reply….is all well for you? Take care my friend, I’m here if you need me… 🙂 CG xxx

Good morning, this is my first fast day and so far I am ok

    Hi Everyone, and especially Taco,

I’m in the same boat as you with 30+ kilos to loose. It does feel daunting that first day (and I did get hungry) BUT it’s nowhere near as bad as being on a perpetual diet and feeling guilty about every mouthful. As Little Orphan Annie says, “Tomorrow, tomorrow, is only a day away” and then you can eat! And I have found that my impulse control and portion sizes have improved too.

    Good luck today,

    BlueDress

    Good Morning AD’s
Late post from me today. Well, its been a week that I am back from holidays and still struggling to get back into routine.
Good thing:- Hubby is back on fasting from today. So fast day for both of us today along with most of you here.

CG & GG, I am now counting days to meet you ladies. Very exciting time. Its kinda getting difficult to hold onto excitement now… 🙂
Welcome Taco and Raven, and congratulations on taking the big step to a healthier and fitter you.

Many of us in this thread are a living proof that this WOL works. Very good advise from the team already, and my 2 cents worth:- Walk , walk n walk…. It really helps to move the kilos faster.

Went grocery shopping yesterday and filled up the trolley with all veggies n herbs…. Spinach, beetroot, pumpkin, corn, bell peppers, carrots, cucumber, zucchini, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, frozen peas, onions, tomatoes, garlic, coriander, mint, chives, and Tofu……..

I was so proud of myself that I did not end up buying chips and dips and pizza bases and garlic breads as I used to before I was introduced to this WOL.

I am excited about my grocery shopping as it was my first time going out for shopping since I returned from overseas last week. Its funny that I am getting excited with plain vegetables. But I know that these ingredients have done wonders to my health before. The power of GREENS……

Just need the strength to go through couple of fasts before I get into the sync again. Work is keeping me super busy, so that’s a good start….

    Happy fasting team…. Stay Strong!!!

Wow so much info to take in from everybody. But first of all when & where are CG GG and FB going to meet??????? I wanna know all about it. I’m excited for you guys…so no wonder you are! I’ve never read right back at the beginning of the forum but guess you guys were there from the start or early on?
FB how exciting too that you bought all those wonderful vegies & didn’t go looking for the usual suspects dips/chips/garlic breads. Woohoo for you & this WOL. I struggled too after my birthday bash weekend FB to stick with a FD & didn’t quite manage the first one, but after that I slowly got back into it. You’ll be fine.
BD I love your quote from Annie (a favourite). Hadn’t thought of that one but it’s so true. Taco plan plan & persevere & you’ll get there & they become just like second nature. Truly they do. Raven3 welcome & great to hear you’re already through your first fast day successfully.
CG you are soo right about the sense of accomplishment at the end of a FD. I feel that in some ways that’s what drives us to make better, healthier food choices and smaller portions once we start 5:2, & to stop (mostly!) binging out on favourite foods. It’s partly because of the great sense of accomplishment and also control that we feel around food that wasn’t there before. So it’slowly changes your relationship to food to a much healthier one.
So onto another FD today for me. And tomorrow I have the most yummy dessert to look forward to. I made it yesterday it’s a passionfruit & lemon coconut self-saucing pudding (fruit off our trees/vines) & it was delish but……we had no cream. So plan is buy the cream today & look forward to a small portion tomorrow! That I can do. sj

Oh forgot to post – very good article for you on the dreaded scales. Very interesting.

sorry about the enormous link but hope it works. suejen

Hi suejen, yes we are all quite excited, we are meeting up in Melbourne, GG and I staying at the sam hotel as FB lives pretty central to Melb. I will be a tourist, I haven’t been on a train for more than 40 years!!! So that will be excitement in itself. My son will drop me at his local station, and the tour starts from there. We will meet up for lunch..few drinks and giggles and be together from Thursday to Sat. So all very exciting. Doubt 5:2 will get much of a look in, I’m hanging to go to China Town for a pig out as well as South Bank for lunch on the river. So food food food 🙂 yummmm.
Same hotel I mean, can’t get my cursor up to correct for some reason.GG coming down rom NSW too. So all happening next week 🙂 your sweets sound so good I can almost taste it. Clever girl showing restraint with AUSSIE DETERMINATION and tomorrow will be here before you know it…and definately get the cream :). CG xx
