  • Yes I’m afraid you’ve created a monster with MFP,,(Dracula) might get a bit “thingy” at times as to who knows best…good luck my friend, 😆 …CG

Hi all thanks so much for your advice and comments…especially CG with the question of pregnancy..at 53 that gave me something to smile about! I think I may have worked out what it was. I’m not prone to migraines but my mum was and she used to get very ill to the point of being sick…I think this may have been what it was. I will definitely make an appointment with my doctor to discuss before I try again. Thanks again for your help. Best of luck to everyone with their weight loss journeys.

Thanks for the support today I am so happy.

My hubby and family don’t really understand the struggle I go through.

My best friend is supportive but is the right weight, although not really healthy eater.

I am so glad I have found this group I read all the stories victories and not so much.

    We are all Aussie determined.

    I love everyone’s stories

I feel I can brag without anybody rolling their eyes. 15kg and counting 5kg to go and I am half way.

    Thanks again

    Bali

Hi Liblady, so glad to hear from you. Good call to visit the doctor. My doc was really positive about the 5:2 thing and I think I have become her science project 🙂

Hi Bali, so well done! Big gold star for you! The great thing about this forum is that we all know what it takes because we are all on the same journey. With you all the way!

Well, survived my crazy Mad Max drive to and from the big smoke. When I got to the client’s office the Directors of IT and Finance were waiting for me doing the “thank God you are here” thing. So ducked into a nearby phone booth and changed into my “Superprogrammer” outfit. Stopping for lunch was out of the question but I think my stomach is now used to skipping lunch. It probably thinks “the idiot is doing one of his starvation days so lunch is not forthcoming” or something like that. My stomach is now “resting comfortably” with a good meal and a couple of glasses of red 🙂

Andrew glad your home safe with a rewarding red. I refuse to drive IN Melbourne these days, will get to my Son or Daughters but after that they have to drive (usually to a hospital for me) too many new roads, f’ways, h’ways and above all, to many people in a hurry, give me the country life any day,
Glad things are okay Liblady, been there, done that, used to get chronic migraines but seemed to have eased with age, now just get cluster migraines, but meds control that when they hit
Bali congrats to you well done, you must feel so proud, I still have 10-15k to go, but slow and easy to keep it sustainable
    Evening all…CG xx

Good morning team, happy fast day to those doing 4:3 and to the rest of us, today is plan day. Plan for tomorrow! Lots of veg, salad soups….you know the drill, try something different, make life interesting, don’t bog yourself down with same ol’ same ol’. This is our way of life, life is exciting, so should your 5:2 menu be!
I’m making pea and ham soup today, xmas ham bone I froze, so a bowl of health, a meal in itself, and so so easy…….Have a happy day team,……”Live for the moments you cannot put into words” … 🙂 …CG xx

    Good Morning ADs
And yes CG, fast day for us (hubby n me) today. And you are so true about creating MFP monster…. LOL, I could not have put it in better words…Hah hahah ahha

Bali2015..OOOOOOO MMMMMMM GGGGGGGG………… 15 kilos kicked forever and what a great loss. Big congrats and lots of hugs for achieving this amazing result. With this kind of Aussie Determination you will be at your goal very soon. So So so happy for you.
I totally agree with you Bali, as people who do not have weight issues cant really understand the happiness of losing even that 100 grams of fat. Its not their fault, its just that they are unable to see this side of coin. Whereas, in this group, where we all have common interests can really feel the proud and happiness you feel at that kind of a loss, keep going…….

Andrew, I drive into the city everyday and it takes 50 mins for a 25 mins drive during peak hours. Traffic is actually better these days due to school holidays. 1 more week and everyone will be back from holidays and this is going to get worse. I feel ya mate!!!
And you deserve those reds after tricking your body into starvation mode, I am sure you and your body enjoyed those reds… 🙂

For those fasting today, i am your buddy 😉 Only skim milk cappuccino- no sugar for breakfast (85 cals), rest of the calories to be used up for dinner. Lunch will be A big bottle of lightly sparkling water (fizz keeps me full) and lots of teas through out the day. Lets Roll It!!!

Thank you all you for your kind words, got through my first fast yesterday, felt a little light headed about 3pm but after a hard boiled egg I felt fine again and went off and did my circut at curves.

Next fast is tomorrow, I am going to join you all on your Monday and Thursday fast.

    Have a lovely day:)

    Good morning team!

LIBLADY- so glad your OK…… a silent migraine nasty! no doubt exacerbated by fasting. Still check with your GP to out rule any other concerns.

FB – hello ! SO HAPPY THAT HUBBY IS GOING SO WELL.

BALI- we are always here for you.

mgreally- always have some food on hand to counteract the light head feelings & keep up those wonderful fluids.

Have a happy day… remember…. PLANNING, PREPARATION,PERSISTENCE& PATIENCE for your fast days……..GO GAL

    PS…… I am the resident medic……GO GAL

Good morning! Hope you are all enjoying a new day with a new you 🙂
I had my 2 back-to-back fasts end this morning, and finished with a nice spinach omelette after a walk.
To all other newbies, what they say in the forums is right. It does get better in terms of negative symptoms over time. This week (my third week I think in terms of a proper fast routine) was heaps better with no headaches, better sleep patterns and no “growly” stomach.
Lost 1/2 kilo this week after two weeks of plateau. But then, I have had insulin resistance for the past five years, so weight loss is an uphill climb (hah! Literally sometimes!!) for me. But Blood Glucose levels are so much better after just three weeks of fasting. yippee 🙂
all the best everyone, for your fasts this week.

Morning all! Lovely to read everyone’s posts.
I am feeling positive today though I have book club today and have to remember not to enjoy it too much! Looking forward to my fast day tomorrow. So many of us say that, who would have thought we would say such a thing once upon a time! Of course, I am looking forward to Friday’s weigh in even more!
@bali, great to hear your results and that we “get” you! We all need support from somewhere!
Funny, @andrew, thank goodness for our red rewards!
Good luck @liblady. @countrygal, I get cluster migraines too. The longest cluster has been just over 2 weeks which was dreadful but fortunately that doesn’t happen often. I can manage them but don’t seem to be able to stop the next one starting!
    Have a great day everyone!

    Hi Everyone,

I’m fasting today. I wasn’t as enthusiastic today as i have been about my fast days previously which i’m a little sad about. I’m hoping it’s just other factors that have put me in this mindset. I’m also just a little fuzzy headed today. Fasting Alternate days since last Thursday and so far so good – I’m very excited with what is ahead and i guess i just have to keep focusing on that. It also doesn’t help that we’ve just had our Irishman at work bring back chocolate from Ireland!!! But there’s always tomorrow 🙂 and i keep telling myself that ‘tomorrow!’

Stumbled across my first hurdle today with some new probiotics I have – They need to be taken after a meal. So i’ve had a small nectarine and a lot of water – hoping there’s no negative side affects!

It helps to have support behind you and so i thank you all for this forum. I am lucky enough to have a very supportive boyfriend and colleagues who find what i’m doing absolutely fascinating and am just as excited as i am to see the results.

Good luck to the fasters today and to the fasters for tomorrow.

    Morning, all.

Dr CG, the stock from the Christmas ham bone is in the freezer, waiting for its day. Will be some nice soups from that.

Well done Bali, and you may brag as much as you wish.

Good work on the blood glucose, Lotus, you must be very pleased with that so soon, and rapt that you are on the right path, with the right support team.

19Aly, are you trying to do too much with alternate day fasts? Michael doesn’t recommend anything more than 5:2, both for health and weight loss. Have any of your colleagues joined your quest?

Good luck, all you Thursday fasters. It will be a little easier for me tomorrow as I am back to work then, and find the distraction helps – unless someone has had a birthday recently and brings in some goodies!

    B

    Hi Everyone
Im fasting today as we have our son and his wife coming for dinner tomorrow. I love reading all your encouraging posts. Im doing well on my non-fast days too. I feel my head is really in the Zone. @Uptightoutasight- what book is your book club reading. Im in one as well we are doing The Rosie Project- great book 🙂

    Hi Barata,

I’m not able to exercise at the moment – so hence the alternate fasting. Once i’m able to exercise again (hoping 2 weeks time!) then i will cut back to either 4:3 or 5:2 depending on how i’m going.

Unfortunately i haven’t managed to convince them just yet… i think they need the proof.

19Aly, I’m disappointed that all the LOACA in my office (all younger than me), have not yet seen the light. I keep my mouth shut unless asked (or I try to, can’t help shouting hallelujah occasionally). Maybe this year?

Sorry I didn’t keep up, what is keeping you from exercising?

Edges trimmed, more weeds pulled from the lawn, will spray again when the weather cools.

Whereabouts in Sydney are you, Purple? Our son is in the Woollahra / Bondi Junction area, (will be staying with him, and daughter in Newtown, so really handy to eachother.

Thanks Barata for the kind words. And everyone at this forum for all the support and information.

Barata I think purple is on another thread.
Aly, I tend to agree with only doing 5:2 for at least a month when new, allow the mind and body time to adjust, You will still loose weight. I have been calouie counting then 5:2 for 6 months now, no or very little exercise, just basic farm work, gardening if my back allows, 5-7 min on exercise bike and general house work, and have still manages 18k loss…never to return
. I could not imagine anything so easy, if I think about it though, this is how I used to eat in my Skinny days, but totally unplaned, used to drink heaps of water in fact my mother had me checked for glucose, was very active, two young kiddies, great salad and soup lover..etc, but life moved on, we learn so many cooking ideas, the rush slows to a “when I can be bothered” the full time work is long behind us and running a home all at the same time but, age, menopause, habits all take us on a different course, we try all the new foods/recipes, gone is the meat and three veg that we were raised on,….. POW’s were so skinny living on rice fed to them but us Westerners aren’t geared for that type of diet. We need to eat our own healthy fruit and veg, intermingled with different foods, but senseable eating is the key as much as portion size. So hopefully the 5:2 will get us all back on track to a healthy slimmer us! Have a great day team…CG xx

You are right, CG. I am doing too much thread-surfing!

It’s interesting that you mention that. I remember a more mature lady i used to work with doing this once but i brushed it off. Now i’m the youngest in my office (as i was back then as well) and i’m doing it but everyone else is brushing it off. I think if i am able to lose the 20kg’s i’d like to lose then it will be a different story. I think a lot of people my age (mid 20’s) follow fad diets and are generally unhealthy. I’m not going to lie – i’ve been there… i’ve done that. We’re a pretty stubborn Generation – surely an App can lose the weight for us right?

I’ve got a long list of injuries that i’ve had to rehab but my knees and ankles are giving me grief at the moment so running is out of it (i’ve upped my walking a little) but as a cyclist i haven’t been able to get back on my bike as i burnt both my hands quite badly last week and i’m waiting for those to heal so i can grip the handle bars! I’m a little bit clumsy and have been labelled by my Osteopath as a health hazard lol.

    Thanks CG.

For me i have already noticed a change in my non fasting days. I’ve read some other threads where people are doing Alternate Days. I’m not planning on doing this for long. I think this strict plan and then going to a 4:3 or 5:2 is going to be a lot easier… also more manageable in the long run. It’s almost like a test for me… if i can do alternate then i can definitely do 4:3 or 5:2. As i said… Alternate Days are not for a long period… just a kick starter. I appreciate all your information and well knowledgeable experience on the 5:2. It’s an exciting time for me 🙂 and it’s great to have so many experienced people to support all us newbies!!!

Good morning everyone…..really good to read all your posts, they have given me some encouragement….I’m pretty flat today…..had friends drop over in arvo…..too many wines a late dinner and then for some unknown reason I ate the best part of a packet of chicken crimpys? Why oh why? and after a great day of light healthy eating too. I have the fast days nailed to a T but keep falling down on non -fast days….need your support guys 🙁

Foxy Foxy Foxy…. you know that its OK…. We all do it some time or the other. Think about this- If you cant enjoy or celebrate with family and friends, then this is not a Way of Life and it wont be sustainable. I totally understand the guilt, however we forget that this is a WOL and we need to LIVE…… Please dont feel bad about it. You are in control and you will get back to it tomorrow. And we all know that this tomorrow is just around the corner. So, cadet, chin up, smile and keep marching towards happy you. Because being happy and healthy is all that matters. Hugs your way

19Aly.. did you say that you have been labelled as health hazard… LOL
All the very best with your ADF, if you think that this gives you a good kick start then go for it as long as you feel fine.

I am in my early 30’s but have medical conditions, due to which I cannot exercise. I have been doing 4:3 without exercise , just upped my everyday walking and I have also lost 11.5 kilos in 13 weeks.

And you are so right about fad diets. I have tried everything like celebrity slim and what not…… Everything seems to work then gets impossible to sustain. Hope you find success in what you are doing now. You sound very determined and motivated, this is a WIN already. Good luck!!!

Hi Foxy, as CG says don’t sweat it. I can hear the self-recrimination there. Don’t punish yourself. We all do it occasionally. What counts is that we all get it and we’re here for you. It’s just a bump on the road. We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get back on the track. This is a WOL. And it’s so forgiving. Look at how far you’ve come. The bump you’ve just had is just that, a bump. You can do it. You are strong. You have AUSSIE DETERMINATION!

    Afternoon everyone.
Fast day for me today but an exciting one as well. I have been listening to how much you all rely on my fitness pal. I have used it in the past and thought I would give it a go, at least for my fast days to keep me on track. I downloaded the app this morning and have started using it. It is improved since I was on it last and think it will come in handy. I have to forgo putting my exercise in though, otherwise it tells me I have more calories left to eat as it adds to your daily allowance.

Foxy, what are chicken crimpy’s??? I assume they are like a chip. They sound awesome.

I agree with you Aly, it is great to have so much support from everyone here. So many ideas flying around out there in cyberspace.

Hey Foxy, it gets like that sometimes. A couple of wines…and .. where’s the nibblies! But never fear…5:2 to the rescue!
I never have wine on fast days, as it’s a real trap for me. Trying to keep it for weekends , only having the odd glass or two on non fast week nights.
Just maybe “forget” to buy them, the nibblies, when you go shopping! Take the temptation away.
It must be a soup day guys… I’ve got a pot of veg soup cooking right now, too, for tomorrow! I bought an Avancer thermo cooker a while back, and it’s great for chopping up all the soup veg, then add the liquid and it cooks it !
I find chopping very painful… I have terrible fingers. Arthritis. So this wonderful machine chops it all up in seconds! My daughter bought the Thermomix for a squillion dollars… I really wanted one so googled and came up with a much cheaper product. Soups …here I come!

Thanks FB, GG1 & Catherine……I am probably being too hard on myself….I have been for my walk, and although I planned to fast today, I have managed to eat healthily today so far…..looking forward to tomorrow’s fast, hopefully I will have un-done all the bad stuff 🙂

Such a great thread for support & understanding, you are all awesome!

Yum, @foxy! Chicken Crimpys (a savoury biscuit (cracker), @catherine) would not last long around me. Haven’t had one in years but so moreish! Don’t blame you at all!

@judy, I am in an unusual book club where we all contribute to a pool of books and review what we read. I like it but I do miss a good discussion about a book sometimes. We were just talking about it today. I enjoyed “The Rosie Project” and have also read the sequel “The Rosie Effect”, also very good. I read The Bone Clocks and reviewed it today. Very unusual but enjoyable. A bit sci fi!

Anyway, I had a couple of little cakes and later bread and cheese and a glass of bubbles. No breakfast or lunch though, how “balanced”! Oh well, I am having a healthy low carb, meat and veg dinner and will fast tomorrow.

@19aly, good luck, I admire your determination. I agree about the app. Somebody please invent one! 😉

Hi Foxy, poor diddums! You silly sausage, we all have our private binges, mine is cheese as you all know, ho’ed into gouda last night, so yum so hard to have a little, oh so fresh, then got cross at myself, then thought NO, an indulgance is not going to undo so much good work. Our 5:2 is so so forgiving, our guilt is because we are so aware of food choices and portions, but hay..we are still human. My average 2 whiskey and zero cokes sometimes get to 3-4 in the heat over the day, the coke doesn’t add up but the whiskey dose, but I enjoy the taste, it could be worse, it’s not a huge slab of mud cake and it doesn’t happen often
“Don’t regret what you can’t undo just remember the pleasure you had in doing it!” …CG xx

FOXY! so sorry I was not here for support …..went to see THE WATER DIVINER & cried through much of it.

If it will help I dived into a pkt of chips with hubby & 1/2 bottle of champers last night & I too am paying for it today . Also had a family upset which caused another glass of the fizzy pop.

We will be back on track tomorrow….. bless our 5:2 and OUR ASSUIE DETERMINATION . CHIN UP my love we will be alright…….GO GALxxxxxx

    Hello all,
Love reading all your posts, you all sound so positive.
Hubby and I started this week, had fast day Monday and will fast again tomorrow. Managed Monday ok, even without any alcohol! Trying to stick to reduced carbs on non fast days. I know that Atkins does work for me but I’ve found that at times is difficult eating out with friends. I need to loose about 10kilos, which I put on last year after giving up smoking. Will watch everyone’s progress with interest.
    Thanks

@fatblaster oh yeah… health hazard big time. That’s a fantastic result for 13 weeks! Congratulations! I can only hope mine comes off like that!

@uptightoutasight i will probably be one of the first to install that app!

Thank you all for your kind words today. A successful fast day because of it! I Found that it was a few meetings at work that i wasn’t too pleased about facing which caused my sadness. As an emotional eater i would’ve loved to indulge on a day like today hence why subconsciously i was not enthused about fasting. So again thank you all for your support and encouragement (and distractions from my fast) .

To all the fasters tomorrow…i hope you have a nourishing dinner and a great night sleep!

Aly, really pleased to hear that the group support has helped you through the day. It’s wonderful what all the encouragement can achieve, and that we are all here for everyone.

Morning AD’S,,,,,,uP EARLY TODAY….Needed to clear my head.

My family upset is/was I was shopping the other day and meet my X sister in law who was on holiday here . She put on a bit of a show. We have not seen each other for many years and I did not recognise her, a lot transpired in the course of conversation which is too long to explain, to add insult to injury she contacted my neice & nephew with in minutes , both OS and told them . Their messages when I checked my emails 20 min later were hurtful and sarcastic. It takes a lot to bring me undone but this was just terrible.

Worse still is my bestie’s husband is her husband’s cousin … so there were more ph calls about the situation.

Sorry to go on……I just feel awful as I did not cause this situation and am still really gob smacked.

Thanks for allowing me to download . Have a happy fast day. You are all so awesome…….GO GAL

GG not sure of full circumstances with your family, but it sounds like you held your head high and didn’t join in the circus.

I alway tell my children behave with pride and do not lower yourself to their level, no matter what is said and done. That is my advice to you. Take care.

    Happy fast Thursday to everyone

    Have a lovely day.

    Hi GG,

Sorry to hear you had such a horrid day yesterday *big hugs*. I know what family can be like – my mother and I do not speak to her side of the family. Some people are just horrible people… and do things to hurt others intentionally or just because it’s how they are.

Surround yourself today with friends and supportive family – people who love you for who you are.

    Stay strong!

Happy Thursday to you Determined Fasters!
GG – my heart goes out to you. Chin up, the hurtful words that people say are just reflections of them from the inside. Not a reflection of your beautiful self.
19Aly, bummer about your meetings. I did read this from another website (the doc there is also quoted in this forum often). It seems a nice way to change our reaction to stuff. Replace eating with another raction basically. See if it helps you:
    http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Creating-Healthy-Habits.pdf

BALI & ALY…. Thank you so much for your heart felt words. They did help.
Strong & proud is one thing I am ,But ,I have a deeply true full, loving & giving heart that sometimes fractures when hurt.

    Thanks a million……..GO GALxxxxxxx

Thanks to LOTUS,wonderful of you to help to xxxx …….GO GAL

Good morning team, up lateish this morning after watching the great Rafa play tennis last night, always a good LONG game.
Another fast day is upon us, we all know what to do, how to handle the niggle pangs, we know to keep the fluids going, whatever suits you, AND we know tomorrow is weigh in, mmmmm!
GG, We spoke last night on the phone, my support, as always, is with you, little people need to show a power to upset others because their life is usually so empty. Your too big a person to allow someone like that into your head space. These type of people need sympathy if anything as she will now be stewing, but you are getting on with a full loving life, sure it hurts, but for a short time, then it’s water off a duck’s back because you know you did no wrong. Hold that head high my friend, we have all been there, we all know how you feel, but we are there with love and support. 🙂
Have a happy day team AND “Don’t sweat the small stuff” life is too short, too beautiful, and so so worth living…CG xx

Skd, welcome to our team, you are doing all the right things, congrats on getting off the smokes, my biggest vice, but great news your hubby is on the 5:2 journey with you. We will support you all the way, check in daily you then know YOU ARE NOT ALONE, no matter how small your post is, others need the same support. Have a great fast today…CG 🙂 xx

Good Morning ladies, second fast day for me and I am lot more prepared. I have to say I am very thankful I stumbled across this forum as I had originally joined up to the Kate Harrison 5:2 facebook page and to be honnest I unfollowed it this morning, I have never seen people be so negative to eachother andconstantly bickering and I find it to be so unsupportive so THANK YOU!!

    Have a lovely day:)

Oh golly mg, we are certainly supportive, we spread the love around. There is NO judgement in AUSSIE DETERMINATION as we all understand the issues relating to 5:2. Our team support each other, we may not all agree on certain paths we take but all get to the same end In the way which suits us. We share hints that we find work for each of us, we understand the occasional binge, we are all human. Life is far too short for bickering! You will never find that here. I hope you find your journey easier with us…GC 🙂

Hi GG. You’re feeding the good wolf, she’s feeding the evil one. http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt34/dvssob/2wolves_zps7971c554.jpg

    Keep it up.

Good morning AD’s. Another fast day. I’ve also started using MFP (before that I was writing everything into a Word doc and physically adding up the cals). I’m still mostly counting cals because I know what I’m like and will stray if I’m not keeping a log to keep myself in check. MFP is pretty good. So funny when it says you’re not eating enough at the end of a fast day. 2 weeks til my cruise. I won’t be down to 100kg by then but I’ll be a lot less than I would have been had I not started this WOL. All the best with your fast day everyone.

    Good Morning ADs
GG, such people don’t deserve your attention. You know that you were not at fault, that’s all that matters, chin up and let’s move on……
GG1, love the good and evil wolf picture and that is so true.

mgreally123, preparation is the key and well done for preparing in advance. This is your Aussie Determination kicking in. And yes, we all are supportive here coz all of us are here for support and motivation. Negativity is only going to take away the positive results and feelings, so negativity should not be tolerated.

I did my fast yesterday, finished at 350 cals as I was not hungry at all. I decided on doing another fast today as I cannot fast on Friday, but came to work this morning and did not have energy to do another fast, so had two teddy bear biscuits with my morning cuppa. I guess this happened because I did not eat enough last night. So, I will fast on Sunday now. This would mean B2B Sunday and Monday. However, this time I will be ready and prepared for it.

Hubby stepped on scales last night (he fasted monday and wednesday) and OMG, down by another kilo. Total loss in week and a half is 4.1 kgs. CG you were so right, I have created a monster. He is riding on a weight loss horse. I think I am getting jealous of him now…… I am planning to secretly put lots of butter in his meals to slow down his weight loss…. ha hah ah ahahaha…..(Just kidding) GG1 Now I am feeding the Evil wolf….LOL.
On, a serious note, I am very happy that he is seeing the results as this will keep both of us motivated.
For all those fasting today, good luck and make sure to drink up lots of fluids, really helps!!!! Love you all!!!

    Hi everyone

I’ve been reading all your posts with interest. This is my second week doing this WOL and it’s going well. I started at 83kg Monday a week ago, Monday just gone I was 82.4kg. I fasted on Monday and today this week. I weighed myself on Tuesday morning and I was 79.2kg, this morning I was 81.6kg. Does anyone else see a fluctuation in their weight like this? I’m not considering any weight has been lost for the week until I weight myself on Monday morning, which is my normal routine.

Meee the average fluctuation per week is 1-2 k as undigested food still needs to pass through you, it happens to us all. That is why we weigh in every Friday morning, same time/ day each week, may not be TRUE weight but overall average. You are the same weight as me although haven’t seen 70 anything, beginning to wonder of my scales go that low, hahaha 😆 I’m finding after loosing so much my loss is getting very slow but not to worry, it WILL happen and I feel great so will keep plodding along with 5:2 I’m not rushing nature, often you’ll find a lower read the day after weigh in too, two days after a fast. Don’t worry, don’t sweat the small stuff, it is working…CG xx 🙂
