    Day 11 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

    OH I am forgetting to post!!! I am still doing my ZBC (it’s hard, right now I am hungry, it’s 8am and about to log onto work), but will do it!!!

    Weight. Well. Bobbing about.

    But I continue with my daily exercise, walks and stretches and definitely have good balance, strength and flexibility, so that’s got to be good for bone Heath etc. I could feel the mental health taking a bit of a backstep on Tuesday (work related issues got to me) so I am actively trying to be mindful. Grateful. Taking time out. Breathing.

    I wish I could respond to you all but need to start work. But I am here with you all on this Thursday FD.

    A much-needed FD today! 😳 Despite yesterday’s 10,000 steps (no pirouettes necessary, @merry🍎 😅) Complacency is the enemy of maintenance.

    @ccco – well done on the almost 5 lb down! 🎯 We need to reward ourselves sometimes, but preferably with the non-edible varieties.

    @merryapple – what a cute picture of Mr Mac! 😍

    @stitchincarol – I love the giraffe quilt! And that’s a good-looking 160 lb after being away. Just maintaining is always more challenging when we’re travelling, so to lose even a pound is impressive 💪

    @leoniraats – no luck required on a FD, just plenty of RESOLVE, a little planning & looking forward to Friday morning PFDS 🏋

    I did a @merryapple and got out first thing for lovely fresh air and a bit of a hill to push my lungs to help my brain this morning 🚴
    @excelsior12309 I don’t know how I feel about guavas 😂😂 we don’t get them much here… they sound a little like gooseberries in that people don’t really rate them much except in jams etc… I personally like them.. and eat them off the tree but only when super ripe.. and then the birds have usually got them before me… thinking of birds makes me think of @songbirdme and @i-hate-lettuce 🦅… the webcams, the eagles, the ospreys… then I think of @at up in the same area as @i-hate-lettuce… see how our brains go off down a rabbit hole.😂 hi all!

    Weigh-in: 228 lbs. Well, my body was not very nice. I did a great FD500 OMAD, and all I got was a pound off. Haha!

    Anyway, next FD should be Sunday. I’ve been soft-drink free all week.

    Day 11 – Rural Nebraska, USA – Probably OMAD

    Yesterday wasn’t the best, as I had a problem pop up that was troubling, so I did what any reasonable person would do and tried to drown my sorrows in food.

    It didn’t really work.


    But today’s a new day, I’m coping with that problem, and we’re ready to leave for the airport an hour early–rather delightful to have pulled off everything on our to-do lists!

    @ccco Well done on being down 5lbs!

    @merryapple Yeah, I know…mind you, I NEVER bought the disgusting white bread, but no matter what kind of “lovely” (read: healthy) bread I brought home/baked, no one liked it, from DH to all three kids, and they’d all eagerly sieze on the whitest bread offered when we were other places. Weird people. And I’ve told them so. And Mr. Mac? Adorable.

    @leoniraats Sounds like you’re doing well on all fronts; your determination and commitment are very impressive!

    @daffodil2010 I’m thinking about how miserably hungry you get in the morning and a thought has occurred to me: would it be simpler to eat a protein-rich breakfast and skip lunch instead? It doesn’t give you as many fasting hours, but misery isn’t terribly pleasant! 😂❤️

    @jaifaim I hope you’re able to accomplish lots in efficient spurts so you can have a bit more down time–your posts have been sounding as rushed as I often feel.

    Thanks for the compliments on the quilt for Mae; it was fun to take time to do it, and I’m looking forward to seeing it get used over the years.

    I created a time-table for finishing DH’s fair isle sweater that I started January 2023, and if I stick to the rule of at least one entire row a day, I’ll have it done before Christmas. That one row, however, can take close to an hour, so it’s no small addition to my day, but I’m wanting it to be done so I can start other projects. 😂

    Have a grand one, everyone. I am likely to be able to read posts while we’re gone, but between the pull of granddaughters and my dislike of posting on my phone, I’m not likely to post much of anything. We’ll be home about 8:30 Monday night, so I’ll “see” you all on Tuesday morning!

    Joining today’s pocket list! A little late!

    I think that I can do all these FDs because my body has adjusted to it. I am not sure if that is good or not! I worry that this adjustment could mean I need even fewer calories to lose weight because I don’t seem to need what I used to eat to lose. Well, I guess, I can always readjust if I stop losing but I am trying to increase my exercise program. I am an older woman with severe osteoarthritis, so I have to keep that in mind when exercising. 🙁

    Day 12 NZ NFD 73.7kg Woosh!!

    At last the 73s… I have ribs but they still fail the ‘dog test’ of a nice edge to the rib cage… As you point out @ccco, I too have never eaten so little and for me, baked so little and cooked such ‘simple’ food – more Mediterranean in style. I have started making biscuits rather than cake. One biscuit is smaller than a slice of cake. And if I make small biscuits sometimes I have two😅!!! On Monday I had to throw out banana cake made with three bananas and sour cream😋because it went mouldy…
    I have had a good breakfast (after saying I’m not eating much) of porridge with a wee bit of cream and 1/2 tsp of brown sugar, sourdough and marmalade and 2 cups of tea… I do like to vary the amount I eat at different meals so my body doesn’t get used to routine… Who am I fooling?!!
    It’s pouring with rain, the whole country is sodden except for east (Christchurch etc) of the Southern Alps which is still in drought.
    @stitchincarol I can’t wait to see the fair isle jersey! Is it worth taking a snapshot and posting it?!! I have been spinning and have loads of wool to knit up. I need to get on with working out a pattern for my nephew.
    @jaifaim It is a race with the birds to get to the Guavas. I love gooseberries too – similar flavour profile – sharp and sweet. But we can’t grow them here in Auckland. It’s too humid and they go mouldy.
    I did a 2 min wall sit and a 1 min plank plus 60 sit-ups. I haven’t done any ex for a while so thought I should quietly build up the planks… plus my shoulder exs with the stretchy rubber things the Dr gave me. It’s too wet for a morning walk but might see what the weathers like later in the day. I need to do one more walk this week and I’m having a haircut on Saturday. I won’t want to wreck my new coiffure with a sweaty windy walk…
    @funshipfreddie Looking at our current crop of world leaders that quote is spot on!! I have now looked up Andy Grove. He was head of Intel and a Hungarian American engineer who published a book called Only the Paranoid Survive: How to Exploit the Crisis Points that Challenge Every Country and Career.

    Had a good FD, & clocked up + 12,300 steps 💪 But I was still surprised to be under 70 kg after what I’ve eaten this week 🐷

    @merryapple – oh well done! That was a well-deserved whoosh! 🥇 I think Andy Grove could’ve used a better word than ‘paranoid’ though. ‘Vigilant’ maybe?

    @leoniraats – I just had a peek at your spreadsheet numbers. It’s odd that your weight has gone up after your last couple of FDs. Are you counting calories, or just winging it? Do you weigh yourself at the same time every day? I’m just curious. Or you can tell me to mind my own business 😅 As for reaching 8000 steps, sometimes I catch up on them just by walking on the spot in the evening. It may sound weird, but it works. And if I’m watching something interesting on TV I can almost forget I’m ‘exercising’. For me it works out at roughly 7 minutes for 1000 steps.

    Morning all , relieved to be back home after a few hectic, stressful days , I’ll be catching up on all posts as soon as I can ☀️

    Day 12 – USA/GA – NFD

    Weigh-in: 230 lbs. The 230s are ugly, but before the month is over, I should be saying good-bye. Considering I had a hefty weigh-in last week of 236 lbs after weeks of no fasting, I’ve been satisfied with this week. No soft drinks yet either! I was tempted yesterday on our meeting/field trips. But I failed in other ways — we tasted local honey and local candy/ice cream/etc, and I went along with it — and when you taste once, you want more! Anyhow, two more days of no fasting, and then back on the wagon.

    @stitchincarol LOL – you are right… life is quite hectic right now but… I also post on my phone so I end up with lots of typos which I only spot once I’ve actually “posted” to the forum and I think you see the unedited version as you receive update emails… 😂😂 sorry! Often these contain lots of gobbledygook text as, and it’s a curious thing…, you enter the perfectly written text… it looks perfect and then you post it and reread words that are not even words in any language… I don’t understand it… I have two “keyboards” on my phone which may confuse things but even still.. many of the words that end up in my first draft of a post are neither English or French… 🧐🙃😂🤣

    I’ve had a poached egg on sourdough for breakfast and I’m off to Piha Beach, a Wild West Coast beach. The Piano by Jane Campion was filmed there, which inspired Alexander McQueen’s early haute couture collections especially Highland Rape. I shall be wearing my red band gumboots, shorts and a waterproof jacket… It’s 98% humidity here thanks to the current weather systems coming in over the ocean from the tropics.

    Almost half-way through Amazing April already?! I had a sensible Friday, & I’m aiming to be on my best-ish behaviour today. Then I plan on being on the pocket list with @northgeorgia tomorrow.

    @merryapple – I hope you enjoyed the beach. No shorts-wearing here; it was 11 C when I woke up a couple of hours ago 🥶️ Feels like winter’s arrived early. But the sun is shining & it’s supposed to creep up to 19 by lunchtime.

    Hi, all! We’re having a wonderful time playing with the older two girls and holding and cooing at Baby Mae. Today we’re going to Spring Fest (formerly Bug Bowl) where, among other activities, we can enjoy chocolate covered bugs… cockroaches?? I’ll report back if I end up managing to ingest anything… 😂😂😂

    Food-wise, I’m doing okay. Sleep-wise, not so well, since I’m posting at 3:04am! Oh well.

    @penz You’ve sure been silent; having a grand time on your year off?

    Hello everyone, I woke early to cycle but one look out the window and back to bed it was… more foggy/mist and rain here at the sea and not a day to be safe on the bike. I’ll see if it improves later but will just get out for an hour or so while mum sleeps. Mum sleeps most of the time now.

    @ccco what are you down to now ⚖️? Seems like you have been on a great losing streak recently but maybe your body needs a day or two to settle and get used to the new weight?

    @funshipfreddie enjoy that sun and the warmer temperatures later! A friend is just back from
    a family trip to SA 🇿🇦 and was regaling me yesterday with all their news… I asked him if he had a lekker time – he had no clue what I was asking 😂😂

    Sorry team MIA again. A lot has been happening and I’ve been so busy but committed to coming on here every week minimum. Keeps me motivated.
    Between now and Feb I’ve been doing 5:2 most weeks had a few hiccups here and there but would say I stayed on course most of it.
    Anyway glad to be back!

    Weigh-in: 229 lbs. Well, there’s a rumor the family wants to go somewhere tomorrow, which might mean the FD will have to wait until Monday. No soft drinks yet, but if we travel and do fast food, it might break the streak. Anyway, been proud of myself and it has made me realize how often I might have been sneaking a sip over the past two years. I know I have a few business lunches next week, but I am ready to focus with @jaifaim to get the weight under control. I want to be a bit lighter and closer to my weight last year by the time my mid-June vacation rolls around 🙂

    I have been so good on my FDs lately but I seem to have stopped losing weight1😡

    I will keep trying. I am sure the weight loss will start up again! Jaifaim, I still weigh in the 120s, which is a lot for me. I am small and until I was in my 50s, I always weighed 100 lbs. I want to get down to 110 lbs. I must be eating more than I thought! At the weight I am now, I am very sluggish.

    Day 14-No. VA USA-FD800

    Doing oK on NFD, I find I actually have to keep calories below the calculated limit on the 5-2 website in order to actually lose weight. In other words, about 250 calories less than the non-fast day recommendations. Perhaps this is a function of age and slower metabolism. I am trying to eat lots of protein and still am avoiding sweets and breads, and that seems to have helped me the most.
    My weight is almost 20# less than a year ago in March 2023, but I still have another 15# to go to meet a reasonable goal for me to maintain. But right now I am at an intermediate goal which I didn’t think I would see, six months ago! Group support is helpful, even from half a world away!

    @funshipfreddie, your house numbers are brilliant. @stitchincarol, chocolate covering would not help me swallow any insect deliberately. EWWWW.

    Day 14 – USA/GA – FD

    Weigh-in: 231 lbs. Boo to the 230s, but still, yay!! I’m at the exit door. Outing has been postponed to next Saturday; my nephew was suffering from horrible allergies like I was, so going somewhere to enjoy the floral outdoors would not be a great idea today. Because of that, it’s a WFD! And best of all, I should also be able to have a FD500 tomorrow.

    Avoiding soft drinks was difficult this week, and I did slip up and have sweetened milk yesterday — but it was a bit of a reward to myself for avoiding the more addictive carbonated demon all week long 🙂 I think it has helped though in not as much weight gain. In fact, last week was about a two pound average loss over the previous week (although I’m 2 lbs heavier today over last Sunday).

    I wasn’t so “good” yesterday with snacking all day, including some candy, and couldn’t really decide on a meal most of the day. But even so, the weight gain was only two pounds, which was also the maximum weight gain for any day in the previous week. I have noticed 4 lb gains were common when the soft drinks flowed freely — I think not only due to the empty calories being stored away, but those kind of carbohydrates make you crave more food (not to mention a refill on your soft drink!). I don’t eat as much fast food as I did, either — they package those “deals” with a soft drink. I would rather pay nearly the same price for a better quality meal at a “sit down” restaurant, and following my nephew’s lead, I’ve opted for water with my meal so I can savor the food more. As I said, my goal is to make enjoying a soft drink as rare as enjoying a slice of cake or fancy dessert.

    Tired of playing around with these 230s. And not too fond of the 220s, either. There isn’t room in my schedule for a 3 day B2B2B Fast as I was able to do back in January, and it REALLY helped. But even so, I should be getting within range of my 225 lb. target for April this week. I would like to get partially back into the 210s by mid-June in time for vacation. If I can get the momentum going and my body cooperates, I might even get back to the 200s this year, and then the 190s beckon, which will be an exciting day!

    Excelsior12309, in reading your post, I think I am in the same boat as you! It seems that I also have to eat fewer calories than recommended to lose anything and I also think age may be the reason. Congratulations on your progress so far!👍

    Got Up And out early this morning … and got a good cycle in in the bright cold sunshine – it felt like February- was beautiful 😍. Then two walks with family throughout the day – a lovely way to catch up and clear the cobwebs 🕸️.

    @leoniraats same here… although busy it was relaxed if that makes sense… could have made some better choices but most were good. My exercise goal this weekend was my priority so happy with that.

    @ccco you are so focussed you will get there… it’s harder as we get older but you’ll do it.

    A real Sunday pocket list! I hope everyone had a hassle-free FD as I did. It’s a good way to start the week, knowing you’ve only got one more FD to accomplish 🎯

    @merryapple – I’m not scared of Judge Judy. The numbers are a bit larger than I thought they’d be when I ordered them though. I didn’t imagine they could be seen from the International Space Station 🤣

    @brightonbelle – it’s my age too, & the year I was born.

    @northgeorgia – have you tried sugar-free soda? It’s very easy to get used to; in fact regular soda tastes too sweet to me now. And I don’t think diet soda makes me crave sugary treats. I do have a very occasional regular milkshake when I’m feeling reckless though.

    @jaifaim – loving your RESOLVE – “My target WILL be reached this month” 💪

    Relieved my weight has gone down. Still not on target to achieve my month’s weight-loss goal but working hard at it.
    Setting some additional goals for myself to assist with that.
    @jaifaim WELL DONE! I am so glad you managed to achieve your own personal goals over the weekend. Well done on the 22km cycle as well on Saturday. It’s tough to be on a bike especially on the hills. You did a marvelous job with your resolve. I wish you luck with reaching your target weight at the end of the month.
    @northgorgia well done on the soda abstinence, you are doing such a great job. You will get there. Just hang in there and persevere.

    Weigh-in: 227 lbs. Good drop this morning. Today is a FD500 OMAD. Hopefully, the weight will move more than just a few ounces 🙂 Come on, 225!

    @funshipfreddie Diet soda tastes nasty to me. I heard if you force yourself onto it, you won’t go back to the regular kind. I probably shouldn’t go that route; my mom did decades ago and she’s only gained weight over the years, so genetically, it might not really help me stop the cravings 🙁

    Day 16 – NFD – South Africa 🇿🇦 77.6
    Had a Gr8 FD yesterday. Consumed 357 Cals and burned 752 Cals.
    Water 2.25L,steps 12,773.
    1h45 walk, lots of hills and 12 flights of stairs. Happy for the further Weight-loss but should weigh 77 kgs at this stage if I want to weigh 76 at the end of April. I will just have to work really hard over ne next weeks. At a in-person seminar today (all day) so can’t take that many bathroom breaks so water intake out of the question. Also won’t be able to put on much steps or do much activity today. Hope it doesn’t show tomorrow. Hope yesterday’s fasters had a good day. Good luck to those fasting today.

    Good morning! I’m tired this week but feeling much better generally. Had a lovely blowy beach walk last night – the sands were shifting big time… crazy winds so no bike 🚴 @brightonbelle yes you said it… reset and half a month to go💕
    @leoniraats well done on all the achievements yesterday ⭐️ I find it very hard to come in under 500 cals… so bravo to you!
    @funshipfreddie thanks! I thought over the weekend that I must believe it and it will come.. there’s no point setting in to this WOL or each month if you don’t believe it will work.. well done on the good Sunday FD – you’re so right just one more day then to FD in the week- good thinking!

    @northgeorgia 👏 cutting the fizzy drinks is a huge achievement – I’m sure you’ll notice the difference in a few weeks.. I drink mostly just fizzy water now and tonic if I am out of an evening. I don’t like the diet drinks and aspartame etc leaves a funny taste in my mouth.

    @northgeorgia – I’m sure you’re right. No soda of any kind is the best approach, & we’d all be better off just drinking water. But I’m not a fan. I gulp down half a litre in the morning, & another half in the afternoon. And I get the rest of it from tea & coffee ☕️

    @leoniraats – looking good! You’re well over the half-way mark to reach your goal, & still two whole weeks to go!🎯

    @jaifaim – it IS quiet so far this week; more ‘Absent April’ than Amazing 😅 Your comment regarding reaching your goal reminded me of that great Theodore Roosevelt quote ~ “Believe you can and you’re halfway there”.

    Feel better after a decent <800 day yesterday , going to gradually increase my exercise over the next few days ( it’s amazing how quickly you can go off plan ) as looking at my diary I realise have a trip to Nice booked 4 weeks today and I’d really like to be strolling along not worrying about any bulges ☀️👙

    Day 16 NZ NFD ?

    It’s the remains of the day… It’s my birthday tomorrow but the build up has already started!! It’s also the Auckland Art Fair and various art openings. I hosted a lovely artist from Guadalupe, Paris, London and Berlin. He wanted to go up Mt Eden to see the sunset. He set the pace with long legs and a long stride which was my power walking pace. When we got to the top he was absolutely exhausted. I was quite pleased that I am way fitter than he is since he’s 3/4 my age!!!
    I had a friend to stay overnight, he’s been replaced by my art therapy student tonight for the rest of the week.
    Tomorrow morning is Mt Eden walk first thing and coffee with friends.
    @leoniraats You’re making terrific progress. Thanks for the encouragement too.
    @jaifaim I love wild beaches too but our short legged furry friends get sandblasted by the wind so we had to find a more sheltered area for them at Piha.
    @funshipfreddie I don’t know what’s worse- treatment for heart disease or the disease itself…
    @brightonbelle Good on you for the <800 cals to get back on track. A lot can happen in two weeks!

    Day 16 – USA/GA – NFD

    Weigh-in: 226 lbs. OK, nice! Just a pound away from my goal weight for April 🙂 Had to break fast this morning in preparation for the board meeting. It’s usually a sandwich of some sort, but last time, we were surprised with salads! Mom also cooked a nice meal last night, so I politely “made a plate” for this evening. Anyway, tomorrow should be another FD.

    @funshipfreddie Yeah, well, I know I’ll have another sugary soft drink in the near future. It would be good if I gave them up for good — so your method isn’t a bad one for something with zero calories! I think for me, I’ll just have to settle to have one “as frequently as cake.” I can imagine the disaster if I had cake every day LOL 🙂 I will be curious in observing the effect on weight it has. I think once I have that drink, I will mark it down in my charts somewhere, so I can trace any patterns. @brightonbelle I actually have some carbonated water in the refrigerator. Of course, those were probably bought more than a year ago so…it might not be so fresh!! It’s spring going on summer, so eating more citrus with plain or fizzy water might be a big help. @jaifaim Yes, I did that a few years ago, so this could be key to get me moving the right direction again. Goodness, I have even caught myself at some restaurants asking for three or four refills — that’s ok if water, but destructive otherwise!!

    Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD – 165.0

    Well, so much for my lovely weight the day we left. I’m guessing I’ll be 161.8 tomorrow morning (although, of course, hoping for even lower 😂😂); we’ll see how well I know my body.

    We got home at 8:30 last night and by the time I crawled into bed, it was raining with thunder and lightening and strong winds…a lovely lullaby. We had a grand time, the baptism day was a treat as our SIL’s grandmother, age 94, came for some of the day, and I got lots and lots and lots of time holding Baby Mae. And the eldest DGD was so dismayed when she heard Gaga and Pop Pop were leaving the next day that she wrapped her arms around my leg and wailed that she didn’t want us to leave.


    What I’ve realized is that I use every excuse there is to eat/drink what/when I shouldn’t. Shouldn’t as in, I’m not hungry, it’s not a healthy choice, a real meal is right around the corner–truly SHOULDN’T. So my goal for the rest of April is to notice each and every excuse and shoot it down like in a video game (which I do not play, but see examples of while I’m waiting to play solitaire 😂).

    We are indeed very quiet right now, aren’t we? And this is the limit of my own contribution today, as it’s time to get ready to head out for piano lessons.

    FUNSHIPFREDDIE, I am addicted to soft drinks but I haven’t had one since I was 18 years old! When sugar free soda came out on the market back then, I was all in! Now I mostly drink caffeine free diet Coke and I am fine with that. Getting started might vbe hard but one you are there, it is doable! The same thing happened with white flour products like bread. That was even harder than the soda! Now, if I even look at something llike white bread, you would think I was reacting to poison! LOL
