    Day 14-No. VA USA-FD
Weight stagnated due to eating tortilla chips and yogurt dip yesterday, in mass quantities. Honestly, poor decisions…Our upstairs air conditioner is out, so we had to sleep downstairs. Once the temperature got about 89 degrees upstairs, it was time to call the AC company and they are coming today. So we are having a@northgeorgia moment!!! In the South, we are definitely captives of the heat and humidity.
I am envying you folks in the Southern Hemisphere!

My husband has accumulated several classic cars, and they have a garage of their own. His sentimental favorite is a 1983 red Ferrari, which is the same model as the famous Tom Selleck car from Magnum, PI in the 80’s. I didn’t like to ride in it because people would follow us down the road or the highway to stare at it. I felt too conspicuous!! He used to have a light blue 1962 Austen-Healey, which was fun to ride in, like a little toy car (I always thought of the character “Stuart Little” from the children’s book). That one was sold to someone in Paris several years ago… We are definitely NOT riding in convertibles in heat like this, though!

    Down we go, everyone!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Steve in 1966 I went to 3 games at old Trafford, unfortunately England played at Wembley.I did see Eusabio play though and he was the top scorer in 1966 world cup finals. It was the first time I went to old Trafford.I started watching Man City in 1962 and typically they got relegated. My dad used to go to watch City one week and United the next. When I was born he stopped going to watch United. We won what is the equivalent of the speedway world cup last night so come on England tonight at the football. I’ve ordered a smart ring and a new phone which comes with a smart watch and ear buds. So I will be able to track all heath things.

    Day 14 NZ NFD 🚴‍♀️

What a weekend!!! We had so many out of towners in town for the All Blacks vs England rugby at Eden Park. The atmosphere was fantastic with a great result 24-17!!!!. I have eaten and drunk so much😬and caught up with loads of friends. And Ireland 25-24 South Africa. And Wimbledon. And a test between the NZ Black Ferns and OZ Wallaroos women’s rugby teams (62-0 just saying!!) And tomorrow morning Eng vs Spain.
Just to cap the weekend off I went for a bike ride and got soaked in freezing rain… There’s a big storm blowing in over night…

@snowflake56 I hope you managed to get your rugs dry? Dealing with wet carpets is hard work…
My brother owns a BMW convertible from the 1980s. It is black with red leather seats. When he helped our mother move, he put the grandfather clock in the back (like the Antiques Road Show intro!) The Westies and Scottie loved travelling in it!!
@jaifaim Thank you and the sentiment is returned for Ireland!!
It is a difficult time going through family things and trying to decide what the right thing is to do with everything… We ended up taking a lot of photos before sending stuff off to the auction houses or donating them. Now we have a pile of photos…
Thanks to all the talk about dresses here, I found a beautiful black woollen ‘shirt’ style dress in my wardrobe that I forgotten about. I bought it at the Pringle outlet shop in Hawick, Scottish Borders. It is below knee and has a tab front (can’t see the buttons), no collar, no waist and sleeves with long cuffs. Very plain and priest like. I wore it out to a restaurant on Friday and it must be the first dress I have worn for several years!!
We are watching the overseas elections from afar with interest and amazement…
@stitchincarol Its very exciting that you have nearly finished the DH sweater!! Well done on the weeding!!
I have no waist to show off and wear trousers not dresses (long legs, slim thighs)
@northgeorgia It’s wonderful you are finding your way forward once again.
@molij Its very sad about the insects and bees. From what I understand it’s down to pesticides and monocultural plantings. Here is how to build a bumble bee hotel just in case you want one in the garden!!:

@excelsior12309 Well done on the downhill progress!!
The Jags have the same reputation here too.
@brightonbelle You are doing so well also!! And long may your Dualits carry on!! Our suitcases were full of exhibition things which get left in London so I had empty space that I could fill up!!
@funshipfreddie My resting heart rate is 58-60 b/min. I’ll check with tomorrow’s FD.
Your line dancing solos must be keeping you nice and fit!! It’s certainly not your laundry🤣
The ⚽️starts at 06.30 Monday morning here!!
@at It’s interesting that your DH does his carbo loading after his run rather than the night before.
@bert1802 and @metatauta I hope you are both having good weekends.
Time for bed so I can get up for the ⚽️!!

Steely RESOLVE for a fresh start to the new week!!

    Day 14 – Ireland – NFD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾
    🏹
Hi all, a busy day here – some more clearing work at our family home place as mum sleeps so much these days it does not impact on her at all.
It’s crazy once you start you find so many things that bring back memories. So it becomes a much slower process.
Two good walks and catch ups yesterday.
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend! It’s Bastille Day today 🇫🇷 so thinking of all my french friends and family over there.. an interesting time for France for sure.

    Day 14, Germany, NFD

Finally a bit of sunshine with a light breeze this morning but rain is predicted for the afternoon. I took the smaller rugs to the balcony and hope to get them a bit dryer. The billiard room carpet is still quite wet, we’ll see if we can save it. It’s carpet number three and it’s not a big deal to replace it.

@jaifaim We don’t have the billiard table anymore and used the room for playing games with the neightbour’s children when they were younger. Now we have bookcases filled with cookbooks, magazines and maybe to go books there. It’s a lovely room with wood panneling and a few build in cupboards.

@molij We also have a decine in the numbers of wild bees and butterflies. The town asked everyone not to mow the grass for the month of June to try to get more wild flowers back. The rain we had for the last couple of weeks doesn’t really help.

@stitchincarol Well done on weeding! We seem to be the dress women here. I have the same gap problem with trousers although my hips and thighs are a normal size. I wear Pedal Pusher jeans from Closed, I think it’s a Danish company, they do small waists.

    Have a nice day everyone!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Good morning everyone,

Welcome SuzyQ, about time we had someone from South Africa here! How is it going?

Well I have given up on the microwave-combo already. It has an annoying fan that blows for 3 minutes every time you microwave something for 2 minutes or more. I can’t bear it! So I am back to my old microwave, but when it carks it I will try a combo again.

Neil, such a hard week. Well done for getting through it. I hope your boss has enough leader capability to make it up to you now, and make sure that sort of week doesn’t happen again. (Really hoping he could at least give you a $700 bonus). Good luck getting yourself centered again.

LJoyce that carrot and walnut cake sounds so delicious. Ha yes, aren’t social expectations of children’s birthday cakes extraordinary these days.

Cali, thankyou re Miso. There are still times I think I see her out of the corner of my eye (I have a little black cd player that sits on a small stool).

I have quite bad LPR (Laryngopharyngeal reflux) now and I must have small meals so I am not doing much 5:2. It is keeping me so mindful and frugal in my eating that no-one has sent me off this forum (yet! Haha).

Sympathy with that brutal hot weather. It is SO hard when the nights are hot too. I do hope a cool change comes soon.

Congratulations on that loss. Half a kilogram a week is normal, if I remember rightly… or maybe that was normal for me. Doesn’t matter, it gets your excess weight off!

Thin, you are right that ‘Have You Been Paying Attention’ is a Mock the Week type of show. It is from the Working Dog company (The Castle, Thank God You’re Here, Frontline etc) so it is homegrown and quite an institution now.

It turns out an airfryer is just a very small efficient oven with a good fan.So I am sorry I am too annoyed to have fun figuring out what can be done in it.

And yay, .5 a week, 2kg a month. perfect weightloss timeline.

Cali, they now have 7 in 1 microwave-combos, how can we keep up?!

Sending good wishes to your poor knees, I do hope the pain can lessen.

I’m a bit distracted, I am cooking a chicken dish, chatting to my granddaughter on my ipad (luckily she is also distracted, drawing and telling me what she is drawing) and trying to finish off this. Sorry if I have missed some things or said things twice!

    Bye now

PS At least the microwave mix up meant I got to clean the space (it was disgusting under it) and also discover the build up of fluff on the ventilation panel at the back of my microwave (it is amazing it could still work!).

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

CalifD, that’s just so hard to read. You’ve been going through a living hell. I’m so sorry. Is your OH still able to walk so that you could get him in the car for little outings or out into the garden? I know you’ve said that have you have to do everything for him. I can’t even imagine how frustrating and exhausting it must be for you. I think you’re right though – you’re just so much better placed to deal with it all when you’re in good shape yourself. Being overweight is so depressing in itself. Let alone all the physical issues it brings with it – such as joint pain, risk of diabetes, stroke and so on.

So, good job with the loss so far. That 13kg will be gone in no time. I remember losing 2kg a month for the first year so you’ve done well. Is your sister also doing IF? She did it for a while with you but wasn’t so keen on posting here.

Thanks for the streaming recommendation. I’m not sure about Apple TV but I bet it’s available. Our signal isn’t always the best. I became fed up with Netflix as I could never seem to find any good movies that we hadn’t already seen. And Prime is getting on my nerves with the increased monthly fee, extra charge for this and that, plus ads that suddenly come screaming at you from nowhere. We’re currently watching a new show called The Turkish Detective on BBC iplayer (I know you can’t get that outside the UK but it may be available elsewhere). It’s just a little bit different from the usual stuff. Did you enjoy Clarkson’s Farm? I was never a fan of Jeremy Clarkson in Top Gear but now I can’t get enough of him. He’s a very funny, articulate man and not afraid to speak his mind which is refreshing these days. UK farmers absolutely love him as the series did so much to highlight their issues.

A glimmer of sunshine this evening. It makes me laugh when the forecast says it will finally become sunny at 8pm. Most other places I’ve lived, it’s been dark well before then.

How about you SuzyQ? Still got the load shedding happening? For the rest of you, this is not a weight loss term but a power cut.

FD for me tomorrow. Chicken Something as usual.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Happy Birthday Xena .. I bet being spoilt Xxxx

    Day 13 – USA/TN – NFD

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 13 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 163.4 then 162.8

Yesterday, I worked in my perennial bed for three hours, weeding the part closer to the sidewalk, and came in at 160.6 (and of course I weighed, LOL!). This morning, I went straight from bed at 8 to the perennial bed and got only a third or perhaps only a fourth of the back half weeded, but sweat was pouring off me, which accounts for this morning’s half-pound drop. I couldn’t ever sit for any of the tedious weeding today, so got far more tired, far more quickly…I kept remembering the game Twister, because I was standing in some strange positions, trying to reach the weeds without stepping on the plants, LOL!

And somehow, after gardening yesterday, I was kept too busy with other things to come back and post, so this morning it is!

@jaifaim Don’t know why I loved dresses even when I was 4 and on through school years, but as an adult, I like dresses because my butt, hips and thighs are the largest part of me, and when I wear a dress, they’re basically hidden and the thinner parts of me show. And pants are blisteringly hard to find that are small enough at the waist that I have minimal gap at the back (no gap is apparently not possibly, my life experience has told me…) but are comfortable at the hips and thighs. Again, I only ask for comfortably tight at the hips and thighs, because lose fabric around the hips and thighs will not happen unless I get a larger size, which never works because then the waist will REALLY be too big. See the problem? Thus, I always assume women who prefer pants to be women who don’t have thunder thighs! 😂😂😂😂 And too funny that you also struggled with my second paragraph…yup, it was totally clear to me, but I clearly didn’t succeed at editing it into submission, LOL.

@snowflake56 Excellent point about dresses being easier since you’re not trying to coordinate tops and bottoms! And your car sounds like a joy to drive and be in on a sunny day! Bummer about your basement, and having your neighbors’ to do as well; so glad it was minimal mess at least!

@funshipfreddie Thanks for that explanation as you see it; I found it helpful. Yesterday was actually a good day food-wise, because by the time I came in from the garden and showered, I had to leave for an eye appointment and grocery shopping; by the time I got home from those, it was time to start supper. So, at 4:30, all I’d eaten was a banana. But DH got out the chips (specifically, the crunchy Cheetos) and our lovely summer meal turned into a lovely summer meal with FAR TOO MUCH treats. So I’m going to take your words and apply them to my food choices today.

@brightonbelle Nicely done on your solid week’s performance! I’m planning to be a Weekend Warrior right along side you, and have a lovely time at Hello, Dolly!

@excelsior12309 How lovely that you’re down two pounds so far in July; well, well done.

@molij How amazing that, even in summer, you want a wood fire in the evenings. Warm days, cool nights? PERFECT weather!

@northgeorgia What you wrote in this morning’s post, and what David wrote on the 12th are the same thoughts, so when you’re struggling, go back and read his post, as I plan to.

I’ve ended up with lots of clutter that needs putting away, and a kitchen that’s not as tidy as I’d like, and I’m only an inch from finishing the body of DH’s sweater, so lots of things to keep me busy today. Have a grand one, everyone!

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 13 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 233 lbs. A pound lighter than last week. Steady but surely wins! I have to remember the principles of 5:2. It’s not about denial and counting calories, it’s about better choices and mindfulness. The two days of week of fasting becomes easy after a few years. The NFDs are the ones that can trip me up! But if I take the approach of moderation on NFDs, it becomes easier. Especially with the new NOVA processed food categories, I have found decision making becomes easier. I try to limit or severely restrict those UPFs at level 4 and get more level 1 and level 2 foods on the menu. The fresh fruits and vegetables this time of year really helps.

Ironically, if I crave a sandwich on white bread or some other naughty high-carb item, it is better if I give in. It seems that after I have a few bites, I don’t want much of it. A little bit is OK and tends to bore me with its lacklusterness, which encourages me to prepare some level 1 or 2 items. On the other hand, if I keep screaming at myself in my head to not have that…avoid it… stay away … it’s a really evil snack … do good today, then I’m more prone on a future NFD to overeat and undo my 5:2 results. Mindfulness is a vague term, as is moderation. But I’m relearning what I did the first year of 5:2, and think I should start seeing some success in the upcoming weeks.

Next FD could be tomorrow, but likely Monday. It’s generally easier to fast in the workweek 🙂

    Day 13 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾
    🏹
Hi all I am having a busy weekend here. I’ve had my early morning walk and brunch with a friend and a lovely catch up with family last night. I was tempted to swim earlier but spotted some jellyfish 🪼 so decided against it.

@funshipfreddie 😂 🕺. I have quite a low resting heart rate generally so will keep an eye to see if it lower on FDs
Bravo @excelsior12309 ⭐️ Very glad you got some
    much needed rain.

@stitchincarol not gaining is an achievement in itself .. I’m the same… fluctuating between two numbers… 🫢 we will get there but at least you are not gaining…

@snowflake56 so sorry to hear about the flooding but interested to hear you have a basement billiard room – how fabulous!! Hoping to can have everything cleared and sorted soon.
Your car sounds beautiful! Happy driving!

@molij I had many Covid catch ups like that and why not, it’s cosy and sheltered from the elements. 🚗 Yes as you and Abraham say: Life in your years… so much more important!!
Well done to NZ 🏉 and good luck to England tomorrow ⚽️

    Have a lovely Saturday!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Hemmy the chilli chicken recipe is go to Sainsbury’s and buy it in a box😁.I will be getting out again though only takes 25 minutes to make. When I had my hearing aids done at the hospital they said they never use an ear syringe. That said it’s a thing of the past and they said absolutely no water should be put in the ear. They said it is bad for your hearing. They used a machine to suck out any wax. When I’ve been to my own GP they did the same. Just been out with Chloe and it’s trying to rain. It’s spoiled the speedway and it’s the main event tonight so hope it stays away. Chloe will be 7 this year, I’ll get her a nice meal when it’s her birthday.I never liked Motown but quiet like it now, still prefer rock though.

    Hemmy….
A very busy day for you yesterday but it’s nice sometimes to have a change.
I did get my garage sorted out yesterday with a tip run, so looks better.
It’s hard we have been at goal awhile and as you say you get complacent.
My few pounds went on at my holiday cruise and then Katie here for 10 days.
As you say a line drawn on Monday! For both of us!
    Have a good weekend.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 13, Germany, NFD

We had extreme rainfall last evening and it gave us a flooded basement. It was our own fault, we forgot to empty the large cistern we have there. After 2 hours we got most of the water out, we’re glad it was only the clear rainwater. Now we have a lot of wet old rugs and a partly wet carpet in the old billiard room but they will be dry after a few days. My DH is off now to buy a wet/dry vacume cleaner, the neightbours have one but we can’t find it. They are on holiday and my DH wiped their basement as well yesterday evening.

@funshipfreddie My heart rate doesn’t change but my BP is always higher after a FD. Here and in the Netherlands more old bookstores are closing down. In the Netherlands we used to have a booktown, in the 90s it had ~ 30 bookstores with old books, now there are only 6 left and most of them only sell online The best one is the British Bookshop owned by a Brit, he sells really good books but they are expensive.

@stitchincarol I forgot to tell you what kind of books I read. Mostly Dutch, British or American novels or biografies about Dutch scientists in the 16-17 century, the most interesting time in Dutch history. How lovely your DH accompanied you to Jazz on the Green and even liked it.

@brightonbelle Well done on losing 3lbs! The Jaguar is not a convertible, it’s a closed one. We thought about buying a beautiful BMW Convertible when someone offered it to us a decade ago but decided against it, which I regretted very much but convertibles give me earaches. Enjoy Hello Dolly!

@excelsior12309 Well done on the 2lbs, it might stay off. Wow, you have several classic cars? Do you have a favourite one? I’m glad we only have one garage otherwise my DH would want another old one, he always wanted a Citroen DS. I like them but they are very hard to find in a good condition. After buying the Jaguar last year we brought it for a large check up to the Jaguar dealer. They don’t expect much repair work in the next few years, we’ll see and hope for the best.

@molij I love the car, it’s the only car I know that’s beautiful both inside and outside.

Have a nice dry day everyone!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Welcome SuzyQ! I’m not even in the Southern Hemisphere, but found my way over here in May of 2017 when thin and I got into a discussion about cockatoos in another part of the forum and she invited me over here. I lost about 13kg on the 5:2 with the help of everyone here and kept it off for a few years. I’ve been away for a while, caring for my OH who has Alzheimer’s/dementia, but I realized I need to be back here with my friends again. Over the past 3 or 4 years years the weight has crept up and I realized tonight that I am I’m starting again at just 100 grams less than back in 2017. My knees hurt and standing up from a seated position requires help from both hands. Some of that is lack of exercise, but mostly I think it’s the extra 13kg. SuzyQ, I think you will like the 5:2 way of losing. It’s the easiest diet I’ve ever lost weight on.

Cinque, great to see you again and thank you for the warm welcome back. I do need to be here. I used to spend hours here talking to you lot, far more time than I did with anyone else in my daily life. I think we all got to know each other very well. It’s good to look forward to posting here after everyone else is asleep.
I never heard of a combo microwave and air fryer before You’ll have to report back on how well it works. Air fryers have certainly become popular these past few years. I know LJ had been using hers for lots of different things.
You can send some of that rain and cold weather over here anytime you like. We had another day of 41 or 42C temps again today. These high temps have been going on for at least a couple of weeks. Thank goodness for air conditioning, but I am dreading this month’s bill. It is supposed to “cool down” to 37 tomorrow. Thin, no, these kinds of temps so many days in a row aren’t normal for Northern California. I hope it doesn’t become the new normal due to global warming.

LJ, you are right about this being a good support group. With so much stress and all the problems and unpredictability of OH’s illness, it felt like I had nothing positive to say. The sadness, the fear and anger at the universe about why this was happening to us becomes overwhelming. But there are always some good things even on the most challenging days. And getting rid of this excess weight and being among friends is so important. I realize going back over the older posts that I’m not the only one with family health problems. It seems like nobody here has been untouched over the years. I’m just glad to see that you are all still here.

Thin, I don’t know if you get AppleTV+ for a streaming option over there, but they had a three season series called Ted Lasso that was so good. I thought of you right away when we started watching it. It was about an American college football coach, who is unexpectedly recruited to coach a fictional English Premier League soccer team, He’s the sweetest guy, but knows nothing about soccer and the fans are relentless, yelling “Wanker! wanker wanker!” from the stands whenever they don’t agree with something he does. It’s hilarious. Is it steamed anywhere in Aus? Highly recommend viewing if available.

Well yesterday’s FD resulted in a .3kg loss. Not as much as I had hoped, but along with the one on Tuesday that’s .6kg so far this week. I think last time I averaged about .7kg per week. I hope my knees start to appreciate it soon and it’s not just arthritis that’s making them hurt.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good morning Friends. Xxxx

Ohh tired again this morning .. a long day out yesterday .. out to lunch and shopping 12–5pm .. tack on to that 1 1/2 hours walking Pip before hand .. then straight out in the garden for an hours play after. Soo a long day on my feet.

I am now 4lbs up on my best weight .. I haven’t been weighing every day as I have got complacent being the lowest weight.

Wellll after the footie tomorrow .. things will change.. Back to eating 3 small meals a day no rubbish .. Wine e no no.

It made me think yesterday and brought it home to me about this weight as my friend has really gained pounds..she has a sweet tooth and hasn’t been well.
She is struggling to get in her clothes .. its such a shame as she loves fashion

I reckon lololol this ole weight lark for me is either not eating enough and weight going low.. or eating too too much and spiralling lolol

Right A line drawn under .. from Monday a fresh start …

My favourite music.. is Barbara Streisand .Motown .. Classical . I love it all not mad on Jazz though.

Dave .. what is the Chicken chilli receipe?

Steve.. Have you got any treats in for the footie ..

H H you did well with the scales this week after being away.

Nana .. Well done losing this week.

Sym.. I think the most important thing is to feel A1 again.. .. When low its easy to revert to treating ourselves….Thing is when we have the extra lbs it makes you feel more sluggish .. Be kind to yourself and rest up get your book out feet up. Xx.

    Enjoy your day everyone..

NOTHING FEELS SO GOOD AS BEING SLIM FEELS> xxxx

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Morning All..

    Day 12 – USA/TN – NFD

Thank you all for your kind comments about my gut health being restored!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

SuzyQ, Welcome! Where in SA do you live? Ours was a family of three when I started 5:2 ten years ago. Now it’s just me and OH and I do more or less what Neil described above except that I am very precise about my portion size and the calories it contains. I don’t count calories now because I’ve been using the same recipes on FDs for years. They mostly come from the Hairy Bikers’ dieter books. Years ago, we started a recipe page here. I hope you will find some inspiration from it. Here’s the link:
    https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/southern-hemispherites-fd-recipes/

Cinque, that was a marathon post. How nice to get all your news. ‘Have You Been Paying Attention?’ sounds like something here called ‘Mock The Week’. Or is it ‘Have I Got News For you?’. There is so much interest in airfryers here. We can’t have one on the boat of course. I’m not much of a kitchen gadget person (grateful for a stick mixer) but I am curious – is there much washing up involved and do they save loads of calories or do they simply encourage you to indulge in foods like chips in the knowledge that it’s so much healthier than deep frying would be? Sorry for the poorly constructed sentence, it’s late and I’ve been watching Wimbledon for hours.

CalifD, so good to hear from you. I don’t remember temperatures like that in California. You have been busy catching up! But that’s great if it gets your mind off challenging caring. You are obviously a really kind, caring person as is your sister. I bet it takes so much out of you. I know how frustrated I can become just talking to my step-mother on the phone and having to cover the same ground repeatedly. So 24/7 must be very challenging. I expect you have strategies. I’m so glad you’re going to start looking after yourself again now. How much weight do you hope to lose?

Yes, as you’ve read, we’re still floating. I did get my foot issues sorted the second time around, thank you. The NHS is now the International Health Service and is completely broken. But even trying to pay for services privately was hopeless. It’s behind me now.

Neil, ha ha, your welcome message. Sorry you had such a horrid week.

LJ, glad your FDs are going well. It’s kind of you to make the family birthday cakes still. Yes, the Peak District is really pretty and because of the high terrain, we have super views from all angles.

Well, it’s still raining. Flipping 13C the HIGH! Summer is a washout. Still lighting the fire every morning – mid-July! (SuzyQ, if you’re still reading, I live on a narrow boat in England but started the 5:2 in Perth, Oz).

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean- well done sorting bank accounts…good job you got plenty of books from the charity shop a while back!
Steve- I like thrillers too…not so keen on autobiographies, I did enjoy John McCarthy’s story though.
Dave- shame about the bowls, good you liked the chilli chicken!
Put on 1.5lbs this week, not too bad with being away…
Had a good long walk with my friend & Juno, he was quite naughty…but Xena’s a pain pestering for treats! Saw Mum this afternoon, am taking her to get her ears syringed next week but it was such a palava booking the appointment online!
It’s Xena’s 6th birthday tomorrow, hoping the weather is nicer so we can take her to the beach!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good choice of music Steve. I like pop, rock in fact most music.I have lots of the Moody Blues,Black Sabbath,Deep Purple.Creme I also like some classical music.Miserable day here lost at bowls, will I ever win again🫣. Rain most of the day.I had baked beans on crumpets 😁quiet filling.

    Day 12 North Wales NFD

Just got home after a two hour drive to meet my sister for breakfast and to pick up some logs for us to burn over the winter. It’s been so cold here recently, despite it being summer, that we have considered lighting a fire in the evening. We have an electric throw and we have been using that. I have been reading lots of reports recently about the lack of bees and butterflies. We haven’t seen many at all despite having lots of pollen rich plants in our garden. I call them weeds 😂, my husband assures me they are wild flowers.
I have had two good days trying very hard not to over eat on my NFD ‘s. I have been very good at reducing my alcohol this month too (so far) although I am going to indulge in a nice glass of something cold tonight with some spicy olives. 🫒

@excelsior12309 well done on your 2lb weight loss.

@brightonbelle well done on your 3lb weight loss. Enjoy Hello Dolly and China Town. I love the China Town in Birmingham when I go to after seeing a ballet with my youngest daughter.

@funshipfreddie well done on your steps yesterday. I really need to try and increase mine. I decided to check my resting heart rate after reading that yours had dropped on a fast day. Mine has dropped since I started fasting again, I didn’t notice a drop on a fast day but a downward trend since the beginning of the month.

    @snowflake56 your car sounds lovely.

@jaifaim my cosy chat with my friend in the car started in lockdown and has continued ever since. During lockdown we would sit in separate cars with the windows down and chat.

@merryapple I write my post in notes on my iPad and then cut and paste it to the website as I have lost a post several times before posting it. It’s so frustrating when that happens. My Mum always said things happen in threes. My husband assures me that isn’t correct. I am quite superstitious so I agree with my Mum 😜

Have a great day everyone and a lovely weekend I have a busy weekend planned so I may just check in over the weekend.

    Day 12 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 161.4

I ended up almost at an OMAD yesterday (had a small portion of leftover rib to tide over the hunger at 3, and then didn’t eat until 5:30), and the scale is back down a bit, so that feels successful. And, Jazz on the Green was delightful, and DH agreed it was totally fun and worth leaving the house for. 😂

@merryapple So sorry you lost your big post! And your advice makes perfect sense–once you’ve managed to start. Or at least, that’s what it seems to me. I used to do exactly what you said as easily as you said, but following your advice now has eluded me, and I have not succeeded in anything except not gaining more weight. I think of @daffodil2010 frequently, because she was on this group for years and kept struggling.

Okay, everyone, it’s 8:330, getting warmer by the moment, and the sun is moving to eliminate my much-needed shade, so I’m going out to weed, and I’ll post more later.

    Day 12 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 234 lbs. LOL, no Southern Comfort at the comfort food buffet. I behaved OK. There were leftovers, however… Still, so far so good.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 12-No. VA USA-FD 800

This morning, weight was finally down a bit: I have lost two pounds since beginning of the month. But I would not be surprised to see it creep up tomorrow: “one step forward, two steps back”. (Or is that the routine for @funshipfreddie‘s line dancing???)
@snowflake56, your car sounds beautiful. My husband has some classic cars, and over the years we have had Jaguars. Here they say if you have one, you better buy another, because one will always be in the shop getting fixed! But they do drive beautifully, when they go!
It is raining here, steadily, for the first time in many days, so that is lovely. Heat and humidity are back tomorrow!
@merryapple, I agree, things seem to happen in threes…what minor appliance of yours will be next to “go on the fritz” as my mother used to say?
@metatauta, I don’t think I have ever done a fast day and then not realized it till the next day…you are good!
    Down we go, all.
    Down we go, all.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 12 UK NFD

I’m counting the first 4 days of the week a result – logged everything, exercised every day and down around 3lbs

So I just need to channel some of the weekend warrior @jaifaim 🏹and stay steady over the next 3 days – it’ll be a challenge as London tomorrow to watch Hello Dolly which has been getting rave reviews and China town after , but RESTRAINT is the key

I panicked when I read about your kettle @merry🍎 Our 20 year + toaster is still going strong , it has been back to the factory once , which is quite near me , but the John Lewis deal sounds reasonable, I’m guessing your not a light traveler🧳🧳

Wow driving round in a big open top Jag sounds fabulous @snowflake56 Enjoy

    Have a Good Friday all

    Day 12 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.7 kg

It was perfect walking weather yesterday, and I clocked up +13,100 🎯 Easy FD, but I’m aiming for a very controlled Fri/Sat. Has anyone else noticed if their heart rate drops on fast days. Just before I went to sleep I was checking my steps, & I noticed my heart rate was 53 BPM. I’m pretty sure it’s usually higher 🤔

@stitchincarol – we DO need italics! Capitals just aren’t the same. But I did get the gist of that paragraph. And I think you hit the nail on the head, because what you wrote reminded me of the cognitive behaviour technique I learned when I quit smoking. CHOOSING was the key, but it’s easy to forget that in the moments those cravings/temptations come along. It just boils down to us not wanting to feel deprived, so it needs to become a habit to recognise & acknowledge the desire to eat. And then make the choice. I can stuff my face if I want to, it’s up to me. Or I can ACCEPT the desire to eat. Embrace it even, just for now. That’s the choice – give in to it or accept it. And then let it go. The desire/craving will scurry away until the next time.

@merryapple – Saturday is also the Springboks/Ireland Test in Pretoria. And then the Euro Cup Final – England v Spain in Berlin on Sunday ️⚽️
I was think the same as @jaifaim; maybe losing your post was bad thing # 3? 🤞

@jaifaim – I will NEVER be a dancing king 😅 But what I’ve been doing a couple of times a day is going over the trickier dances in the kitchen, e.g. when I’m waiting for the kettle to boil. It takes seconds to go through the steps without the music. Practise makes perfect! 🕺

@snowflake56 – Thank you! I love rooting around old bookstores. Such a pity they seem to be gradually disappearing everywhere.

    Good morning all

    Dave

Definitely envious of you going to see England during the 66 world cup I’ve never seen them win anything but hopefully that’s going to change on Sunday.

    HH

I like to listen to rock, metal and very much a blues fan though I do like some pop too. I read horror, thrillers and alot of autobiographical books I’m currently reading My effin life by Geddy Lee from Rush.

It’s another cloudy morning here so not looking too promising for the rest of the day.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Hi Suzy, no other saffas on here that I know about, but you’re most welcome, as long as you don’t mention the rugby world cup final 😉

I used to cook up a meal, take out my portion, then bulk out the rest of my family’s meals with a carb source. Make a Bolognese, eat a cup or so of the meat sauce with some veggies, them serve the rest of the family with spaghetti. Make a lamb Rogan Josh, take out some, then serve the rest of the family with rice or naan. Lentil Dahl is a great dish to give you protein and fibre while being low calorie, and again you can bulk out your family’s portions with rice. Omelettes are quick and easy. Chili beans are great for protein and fibre. Cook up a batch and eat yours with extra veggies, then bulk out the family’s with tortillas, tacos, corn chips, etc.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Thank you all, for the warm welcome back. I feel like I’m back home. I spent years talking to all of you here. When things got so overwhelming in 2021 my eating and my posting both went off. I spent some time on the Alzheimer’s forums getting information and help on what things we could do. Nice people there, but everyone is depressed and at their wits end dealing with caregiving issues. And friends IRL tend to drop away after a while because they don’t know what to say. It’s good to know all of you are still here. Being back here to a familiar place with people I care about is a good place to be. And there are other things to think about besides caregiving. He sleeps soundly once he is in bed and I’ve always been a night owl so that works.

So today was my second FD for this week. My first was on Tuesday instead of Monday like I always did before. But next week it will go back to Monday I think. It will be interesting to see if I lost anything today. I weigh myself every day.

I’m still reading past posts and trying to catch up. Cinque, I am so sorry to hear about Miso. She had such a good life with you and she seemed like such a character. Losing a pet is like losing a family member. It is so difficult. You took such good care of her.

LJ, I watched some of the videos you posted from your travels.mYou had emailed several pictures to me but I don’t think you sent the Penguin video. It’s so beautiful there. I’m so glad that you went as it was one of your lifelong dreams, and truly an adventure. I’m glad to hear that you are still making your beautiful cakes. It was always fun to see the photos of them.

Thin, I read about your foot and all the challenges with getting that fixed. I hope getting into a specialist is easier there than here. It can take many months just to get an appointment. Being on the boat with all that going on sounds like a real challenge. I’m still catching up on the posts. Your one year canal boat adventure has certainly stretched out!

Anzac, are you still working all those hours or have you found a job that is less demanding? (I will probably find out in all the old posts.)

Neil, I’m sorry you had such an awful week. Everything seems to hit at once, having to work so many hours because coworkers are out, and then having to fix the car. Stress eating is a common response, but I hope you can get it back under control before too much damage is done.

It was 42C today at its hottest point and tomorrow may be even hotter. I hate to see what our electric bill will be for the air conditioner. The last couple nights have been too warm to open windows and use the attic fan to bring in cooler air. We normally have comfortably cool nights. This extremely hot weather has been going on for more than 2 weeks. There have been several wild fires. But they seem to get them knocked down quickly except for a few in the mountains and forests. I know you have to worry about fires there in the summer too.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Hello all in the Southern Hemisphere… Im not in Aus or NZ but in South Africa – any other Saffas here ? Just started this at the beginning of July – so 4 fast days only so far and doing OK.
I am looking for dinner recipes that are family friendly – something I can make for the 3 of us and portion out so that I get my allocation of +/- 300cal, So far , I have chicken stir fry and chickpea & cauliflower curry. But I need a few more suggestions. So any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Have a super weekend !

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    3. LJoyce, clever laptop manipulation. Haha. I hope emails are all sorted for another year.

Your pie plate spanikopitas sound so easy. I have a recipe done like that on a smaller scale with muffin tins. There is a cauliflower filling and another choice. I keep planning to try them, but I haven’t got around to it yet.

My daughter is giving me her 3 in 1 microwave oven. The airfryer function isn’t fantastic but I will like trying the airfryer and oven options rather than having my big oven on to cook one spanakopita etc. Chicken skewers sound good! Please tell me other things you find it useful for!

Well I have got to the end of the page (apart from the bots) so I will finish up here and get my little meal. I’ll tackle the next page tomorrow lovely people.

Sending out good wishes to everybody

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 12, Germany, NFD

We had a lovely day out yesterday. It was a sunny day without any rain predicted so we could take the fancy car. Last year we decided to buy the car I fell in love with as I first saw it, a 1999 Jaguar XK8 Coupé in British Racing Green in great condition. We didn’t find much small things yesterday but did come home with a lot of magazines about vintage cars for my DH and a few books and magazines for me.

It’s interesting to read that so many of you prefer trousers over dresses. Perhaps I prefers dresses as we weren’t allowed to wear trousers as a child. I got my first pair of trousers when I was 13 but I always preferred dresses.

@jaifaim and @brightonbelle I hope you’ll see a good result on the scales.

@stitchincarol German women don’t wear much dresses either but Dutch and Belgian women do, it easier to buy dresses there. At line-dance now more women started to wear dresses, it’s so much more comfortable to dance in a dress. Wearing dresses also saves me the time to put an outfit together, I only need a dress and I’m ready to go.

@funshipfreddie It must have been a joy to watch you dance, well done!

@merryapple I hope the third thing doesn’t happen! Just try on a dress, they are so convenient to wear. I’m with you as a WEEKEND WARRIOR this weekend.

@brightonbelle Keep up the good work, your weight will go down! For me nothing seems to work at the moment but I won’t give up, I have to get my weight down.

@metatauta It’s good the hear you’re back to regular food and FDs again.

    Have a nice day everyone!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    2.

I realised there was some blue sky between clouds, and took the opportunity to open up my home to some ‘fresh’ air (‘fresh’ as in Melbourne style 😉 ) and nick out for a few minutes with a pair of scissors to cut weeds off at ground level. Yes, my garden is small enough that this is fairly practical, and keeping their roots helps the soil.

Anyway, back inside with a hot cup of chai and pale sunlight coming through the door. When my fingers get too cold to type I will shut up again and turn the heater back on.

Anzac, it was only a tiny burn, all better now. Thankyou.

Congratulations for keeping on keeping on. Slow weight loss is such a good strategy, and especially when it gets so slow that the behaviours become our new normal and our brain gradually changes its idea of what is normal too. Yes! 93kg is better than 95kg! Cheers and medals for you. I hope that jacket does up easily soon.

I’m also watching Masterchef and Have You Been Paying Attention (the week’s news with a panel of comedians, Thin). But then I am still a free-to-air TV watcher, except I was so delighted to watch ‘Deadloch’ on Prime thanks to my daughter.

Neil, I am so glad all the tests came back without anything to worry you. How are you going now? I’d have gone for a week with no gluten and no added sugar and then made another strategy depending on how that went. I find a NO is easier than a as-little-as-possible.

(Just realised your answer might be in your next post that I will get to soon, haha).

Yes, yum that spinach and feta combo! And hooray for a glasshouse for that tamarillo tree.

    Day 12 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾.
    153 lbs

Hi all, I’m proud of my day yesterday… I did manage a 1/2 LFD 😉 until I went out and then chose carefully at the resto. Just had a main – steak, rocket and Parmesan and oven roasted potatoes.
Didn’t have dessert or sugary drink. Felt nicely full and had a lovely catch up.
@merryapple nooooo, losing your post is a real pain… but you’re here now and sounds like you will be warrior-like with us this weekend. 🏹 I’m still battling to get back to and stay in maintenance and “wriggleroomville”. I’m there again this morning so super chuffed but know I made real efforts this week so glad they paid off ⭐️😊
Yes we say bad things come in threes too – they dont always though so don’t look for the third – or let’s say the third was your lost post… ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such a pain to have to wait until you travel to the UK to replace the element… will that be any time soon?
@funshipfreddie you are becoming a dancing 🕺 king! You must have truly been in the zone! Isn’t that brilliant – so liberating… I think we would all love to have been a fly on the wall. 😂
@brightonbelle I’m with you today and hope all is well. Like you the weekends are the derailers for me! Aiming to keep this one controlled. 🏹🏹🏹

@stitchincarol sounds like a fun time can be at expected Jazz on the Green and anything goes. I hope it was a lot of fun and you and your DH enjoyed it all! I admit I also reread that paragraph and broke it down… yes, understood it then… it’s funny how something can be a super clear thought but try expand on it here and it becomes … less clear 😂😂
@snowflake56 well did you pick up any bargains yesterday?
I’m one of those people who much prefers trousers and jeans. I wear dresses for special occasions and can see the benefit of wearing them on any day as put a dress on and you’re dressed but I don’t find them the most comfortable option.

@molij 💪 you’re here! That’s the key. Your car catch up sounds nice and cosy particularly in this weather. @merryapple lol…Squirrel Sleuths 🐿️ 📺 Jed Mercurio may watch out 😂

@metatauta I’m glad to hear that you are feeling a little better

@ccco, I hope you are there reading and feeling well 💕
@sldeal are you still with us?

    Onward and downward
We rise by lifting others 💕

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hello everyone,
I have been busy with grandchildren, enough to make me so exhausted, but so glad I have been able to help with them, and enjoy their wonderful company. Miss 7yo even stayed the night, and that went well.
I made the spanikopita (only one left now!).

Cali, I am SO SO happy to see your post. I have my fingers crossed that 5:2 goes well for you and that it works to pop in here and tell us how it is going (bad days as well as good days!).

Life is so hard being a carer, hooray that you have your sister to help, but I bet the both of you need a lot more respite than you are getting.

I am so glad that you are managing to keep Mr Cali at home, it will be so much easier for him.

We can’t do much, but maybe having a little support group online in the middle of the night might make a good difference.

Especially if we can cheer you on with those tricky fast days. And those tricky non-fast days. You will feel so much better if you can get some of that excess weight off.

    Cheering you now.

(Off to get a cuppa, I am still tired so I will post in small installments).

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 12 NZ NFD 72kg 🏃‍♀️

I lost a big post y’day because my log in timed out…☹️
I was taken out to a Portuguese restaurant on Wednesday and am eating out tonight too… and tomorrow at a friend’s house… and am cooking for another friend on Sunday… I need to be a WEEKEND WARRIOR!!!
Saturday is the All Blacks / England Test at Eden Park… If the weather stays stable it will be cold and clear – perfect test match weather!!!
My Dualit kettle’s element has expired and I can’t get it mended here because the importer doesn’t bring in elements. I bought it at John Lewis’ London so I might take it with me next time I go to London. It costs 45 pounds to replace it at John Lewis. Apparently Dualit is now being made in China and the elements last half the time… And I broke my glass container for the filter coffee… My Scottish grandmother always said bad things happen in threes. I’m not sure why, but I’m always glad when the third thing occurs!! It hasn’t yet😶

@metatauta I’m glad to hear you are back on your usual food… It’s taken a while for your system to settle down…
@stitchincarol That was a great number!! You’re nearly into the 150s!!
You can do this… Just keep it simple… 5:2 – 5 days of normal eating, 2 days FD 500-800. That’s it!! Try focusing on the food not your psyche. I know one drives the other but if you plan your menu you might take some of that why out of the equation. If you eat too much one day throw in an extra FD for the next day. Just a suggestion…
Has Jazz on the Green come around again?!! It sounds so much fun.
I’ve finished my jersey but don’t love it… I’ll block it and put it on with some jeans and see what I think… I wanted a blood red wool and ended up with a kind of plum because I was away on holiday and wanted to buy something. Silly me!!
@jaifaim Congratulations on your maintenance wiggle room☄️🎖️And well done on a wee bit of gardening!!
@snowflake Did you find anything in the Netherlands’ second hand shops??
I admire people who wear dresses but have never really done so myself… I love coats so why don’t I try wearing a coat dress😄
@excelsior12309 I hope you have been able to coooool off and you have had a break in the hotttt weather. Your dogs must be lying around in a heap… The fish have the best spot unless their water heats up too???? I agree – baking and bread just out of the oven are temptations that would try even Saint Anthony…
@northgeorgia I’m glad to hear that your home appliances are working now. I hope you enjoyed your FD more than the banquet!! Southern Comfort sounded familiar then I realised it was something I drank in my twenties!!!😄Southern Comfort food sounds just too tempting!!! But maybe its all beans and cornbread!!
@molij That’s so funny thinking of you sitting in a car with coffee and cake!! You sound like TV detectives on a surveillance job!! I wonder what those squirrels have been up to???🤣
What did you think of the Atlantic diet?
@funshipfreddie An unscripted solo in the line dance 🕺WOW!!
I’d get my whole house cleaned inside and out at those laundry prices…
@brightonbelle I hope your weigh in went well for you. We all need to invoke the WEEKEND WARRIOR in us!!

    Evening!
Hemmy- hugs to you, hope you’re feeling better!🤗 Have a nice day out tomorrow…
Jean- hugs to you as well, you & Steve were so close, of course you miss him 🤗 Good to have a proper dinner & glass of wine…
Nana- have a nice break in Norwich! Well done losing a bit more…
Dave- how hot was the chilli chicken?! Hope you lose with the 1500 cals, you should do 🤞
Steve- what sort of books & music do you like? The footie was a bit nerve wracking! Sunday will be more so…
We had a nice break, sunny when we got there so enjoyed time outside, a lovely space & view. Xena was so happy, all very secure so we just let her out the car to explore while we unpacked, she played for ages with her ball. It was bigger than most huts so had a sofa & she slept on there at night, a very good girl Wednesday was really wet, got out in the brief dry spells, lazy the rest of the day. We were left lots of goodies so not eating too much didn’t quite happen! We didn’t have big meals though. Have done a liquid FD today, did well as me met youngest in a café & I resisted the cakes. Rang my HomeStart families & caught up on the washing.
Meeting my friend & her dog for a walk tomorrow, we’ve not met up for a few weeks…

    Hello everyone,
Have been bad at posting this week, but, I’ve had a busy few days.hHave been sticking to my 18:6 1300 calories every day apart from the 80th birthday party on Sunday.
I weighed myself this morning before coming away to Norwich for a two day break and I’ve lost half a pound. Will undoubtedly have put some on by the time we go home on Saturday.
Will be back on here again Monday.
Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.

    Good afternoon friends.. Xxxx

Ohh not a good day today.. after the brilliant match result last night feeling very under the weather today lolol

Drank too much wine.. so glad i am on holiday from fasting this week.. Sunday to come yet !!!

After walking which was hard lol . I had planned to go to Bicester food shopping as I am out to Leamington Spa tomorrow with Pam lunch and charity shopping.. so because feeling rough … just popped to local shop and got what I needed today.

Just had a big bowl of the lovely soup I made yesterday .. it was hard going though as feeling full lol.

Mum would have said.. ” That will teach you” lol

Sym… that dinner probably did you the world of good.. When alone its easy to skip proper ones.

Dave.. Whats on your menu today..

Steve… Hope you are having a good day..

Just off with a struggle to mow the lawns while dry ….. A positive mindset leads to success because it motivates us to overcome obstacles instead of giving up. Xxxx
