Day 18 UK NFD
Had a delicious plant based Indian meal out with friends last night unfortunately that lead to far too many cocktails after ๐นso paying the price with a sore head today
Plan on a good FD tomorrow ๐ช
Hopefully got most of my sons stuff sorted , heโs going to work in a school as a teaching assistant, teaching English itโs in a fairly remote part of Galicia , a part of Spain Iโm not too familiar with so looking forward to visiting once heโs settled

Thank you for your congratulatory words Cinque, Neil, CalifD, GDSA and SuzyQ. And the balloons and fireworks Cinque! I’m sure I couldn’t have done this without everyone on this amazing forum.
Cinque, I love my Hairy Biker recipe books that came with the boat. Sad that Dave Myers died of cancer this year but thousands of bikies rode in a huge charity memorial day parade in his honour recently and raised ยฃ127,000. They both seemed like very gentle people in their shows. I loved the Route 66 series they filmed in the USA.
GDSA, I liked what you wrote – what and when we choose to eat is what we become. Well done for getting for your life back on track after that difficult two years since your husband passed away.
CalifD, I’m so sorry that your OH continues his decline despite your dedicated care. But you can take comfort that you are giving him the best possible life he could have as his disease progresses. I think you are amazing if you able to care for him until the end. Even if you find you can’t, you have done an incredible job. I hope you and your sister can find at least one small thing to do for yourselves every day. You answered my question in any earlier post about whether you still have your same pets. Those fires must have been frightening as they advanced. Good that they are getting until control now.
It’s a Sunday but not a FD. I switched to yesterday in anticipation of DD’s visit but now she’s not coming until tomorrow. Never mind, I lost my usual 900g so I’m happy and ready to face the day.
Day 18 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 232 lbs. I might even do a B2B FD tomorrow/Tuesday, as I’m doing the FD500s again.
Day 18 NFD NZ 71kg๐ดโโ๏ธ
Will catch up tomorrow! The evening has escaped me and it’s now half past midnight… on Sunday night.
Day 18-No. VA USA-FD
Well, weight has gone down about 1/2 pound, so I will take a decrease after being in the doldrums for a while. This persistent hot humid weather makes outside activities difficult. @snowflake56, I definitely need you to hop a plane and come to Virginia and weed my garden!!! Flowers are profuse, but weeds are , also, particularly thorny types that need gloves to pull up.
@stichincarol, I am glad you are feeling better now. The CDC.gov website has a page dedicated to preventing spread of respiratory viruses when you are sick; in essence, you stay away from others until your fever is gone for 24 hrs without use of medications, and then for the next 5 days, “take precautions” such as wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, being outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces, etc. They are trying to use the same recommendations for Covid, flu, and RSV viruses to limit confusion. If people have no fever, but feel crummy, they should stay home until they feel better, and then may mingle. We are definitely getting more frequent reports of Covid infections here.
@funshipfreddie, your mosaic adventure sounds like fun. I expect your homeowner’s group would frown on your covering your house with mosaics, but there are some interesting articles online about such houses!
@merryapple, so interesting to think of daffodils in August; of course your seasons are the reverse of ours. Now is the time for us to order bulbs which would be planted in November and bloom in March. I always try to order some, but I tend to over-do and then have 200 holes to dig when I won’t feel like doing it!

@snowflake56 – enjoy the market. I can understand mosaic-making becoming addictive; but the whole house?! ๐ I’m sure I won’t go that far. Not inside anyway ๐ณ

@funshipfreddie
Day 18, Germany, NFD
We had a great day working in the garden yesterday. The plan was to pick more mirabelles but we did other things, so today we try to pick them. They are so high on the tree, I’m not sure we can reach them. This morning we’re going to the flea market at the sports club, it’s always fun and they always have delicious cakes.
@merryapple How lovely you friends took care of you on your wedding day!
@stitchincarol Thanks for the recipe, it looks like something the Germans bake. Have a great day today celebrating your DH’s birthday, I hope he feels better by now.
@funshipfreddie Don’t get to carried away with the mosiacs! On Channel 4 I saw a woman who tiled everything in her house, it looked great.
@molij Don’t think too much about your weight, just enjoy the time you spend with your sisters.
@jaifaim Weighing on different scales is useless as you’re never sure if they are precise and your mood sinks if you’re way higher.
My breakfast is being served, so I have to stop.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone!
Hi all. Started 5:2 around 6 weeks ago after other failed attempts to lose some extra weight I gained this year after starting full time work. For context I still exercised regularly, running and resistance training, and understand exercise alone isnโt particularly helpful for weight loss/maintenance – from what Iโve read and also personal experience this year. Fairly sure the weight gain came from stress eating, particularly on office days.
Honestly been amazed at the progress. Currently less than what I was before the weight gain. I know we all have different goals but for me around the 22 BMI mark/high 50s in kg is my aim. Was around the 66kg/slightly overweight BMI when I started, and 62kg last I checked this week so progress has been awesome, but donโt want to go too much lower.
Just wondering if anyone has tried something like 6:1 for maintenance? Generally in the office on two consecutive week days (Team decision), so was thinking of just doing one 500 calorie day on an office day (which also prevents half the overeating after overwhelming office days issue which probably lead to most the weight gain in the first place). Any experiences with this? Thanks.
Well, slowly but surely the weight is coming off. Iโve been in the low 66โs for the past two days since my Thurs FD. Sometimes there seems no rhyme or reason for gains and losses, like a small gain after a FD. Then one night (not a FD) felt so discouraged that I ate a bunch of high calorie things late at night and woke up with a 400gram loss. It must be salt or something that makes me retain water some days. But I will persist. My knee is still feeling a lot better.
Weโve gotten a good break on the weather lately with daytime temps around 27 to 32 and around 17 to 25 at night so no air conditioning at night for a while. And the two big fires closest to us are getting containment. The closest is 91% contained this morning and the really big one that is further away is 50%. The temps and higher humidity is helping.
Our news lately is like a 3 ring circus. Political ads all the time on TV. Iโm happy to see that at least one candidate is positive.
I discovered a new olive oil a few days ago. Itโs called Pompeian robust extra virgin. Itโs been ages since Iโve used anything other than very mild tasting olive oils since I usually cook with them and am not always looking to add olive flavor. I made pasta with ground turkey and mushroom sauce the other night and decided to serve the pasta separate with the meat sauce to put on top, mostly because I made too much pasta. I added the new olive oil to the pasta only. The whole thing turned out so well. The robust olive oil added great but subtle flavor. I used it again last night on some cut broccoli. The only other thing I added was a sprinkle of soy sauce. I was surprised at how much flavor it added. I imagine not heating the oil helped some. I have yet to try it on salads.
My stress level is still high because of DH. I hand feed him and heโs eating well, but losing weight. Iโve added a couple of the Boost drinks but not sure how much good they do. Iโm not really a fan. Cottage cheese may be a better option, calories and protein. The weight loss is likely a sign of progression of the disease and I just canโt bear the thought of him passing. Itโs so hard. No matter what I do or how hard I try I canโt ultimately make him better. I have to try harder to concentrate on just today, what I can do today. Iโm glad to be back here with all of you.
Evening All..

This topic is quite intriguing. Balancing positivity with avoiding negative language can significantly impact our approach to new eating habits and daily life. Staying optimistic is key, even if itโs challenging at times. I strive to maintain a positive outlook and find it makes a real difference. Happy 5:2-ing!
Carpark booked, insurance paid for and got some Euro’s which I’ll pick up on Monday.Thunderbirds after go๐. Chilli for tea tonight. Denise is doing very well on her diet she should lose this week, she gets weighed on Monday.
Day 17 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 230 lbs. Actually, it rocked back and forth between that and 231. Which means another weekend resulting in a little weight loss after a refeeding NFD Friday ๐
Tomorrow is a 50th anniversary celebration of one of my mom’s closest friends, so I’ll wait until Monday for my next FD. The congestion is slowly getting better each day.
Day 17 Mid-Wales ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ NFD
Eating too much at my sisters so I need to be careful. We went out for a delicious Indian curry last night. Curry is a favourite of mine but I have to make sure I donโt eat it too late in the evening. We are going to a garden centre this morning. I do love a good garden centre.
@northgeorgia glad your congestion is getting better. I take Flixonase for mine. I have suffered with allergic rhinitis for years.
@stitchincarol your surprise pot luck sounds lovely for your husband. I hope he feels well enough to go.
@merryapple sounds like you have had a lovely time with friends recently. Happy anniversary, I love daffodils. We grow loads of different varieties in our garden. Hopefully you will be able to have a FD soon. Enjoy your fish and chips tonight. I usually choose that if itโs on the menu. Luckily I donโt go out for dinner very often and I donโt cook it at home ๐
@funshipfreddie brilliant news about your phone and all for free ๐
Have a lovely weekend everyone x
Day 17 โ South Africa ๐ฟ๐ฆ โ NFD
@merryapple – you’ve been doing so well; hold onto the wagon! We’ve still got two whole weeks of Atomic August left. As someone else wrote recently, ‘Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now’. I think that includes Drambuie & chocolate cake ๐
@stitchincarol – that’s a lovely idea, & sounds like something your DH won’t forget in a hurry ๐๐ฅ
@molij – love the quote about worrying, so true! Enjoy your time with your sister.
I’m finally getting a new phone today – for free! The phone I’m using is about 5 years old & is getting slower & slower, to the point where I want to launch it through a window. I recently found out it only has 2 GB RAM, so I’ve been using an even older phone that works okay, but is staying in one piece with masking tape ๐ So I called into the phone shop yesterday, expecting to cough up a small fortune. But the lady told me, ‘you were due a free upgrade – 3 years ago!’ Duh.
Have a good weekend everyone ๐ค ๐

It’s a test match at Eden Park All Blacks vs Pumas from Argentina this evening. The sky is low and it is absolutely bucketing down…
I have just come back from a theatre at the waterfront which was screening a doco on an artist friend who died in 2020. He made dystopian kinetic works using neon, meccano, welded steel etc after starting his career in the 70s doing performances like having a young Dr sewing sheep’s kidneys all over his body… Interesting!!!
@stitchincarol Happy Birthday to your DH!!! I do hope he is feeling up to a party by Sunday!! Your plans certainly sound fun!!
@molij Have a relaxing time with your sister!! The woods sound magical!!
@northgeorgia๐พ๐ฅYeah!!!
@funshipfreddie Go ahead and UBER your laundry๐It is a perfect way to deal with it!!!
@brightonbelle OOOH!! A trip to Spain must be on the cards!! Where abouts in Spain? It’s my Holy Grail. I speak BASIC Spanish (without a lisp ie Sth American) and love Spanish recipes!!!
@jaifaim No scales means you focus on what you’re eating. Not a bad thing to do from time to time!!
@jospeirs You’re off to a great start!! Yes liking the feeling of starving oneself is a wee bit on the masochistic side. This is a thought I need to contemplate more closely…!
I failed my Thursday FD because friends took me out for lunch for my wedding anniversary. I have a great big bunch of yellow Daffodils in the house because they were our wedding flowers. They are so cheerful I don’t feel sad when I look at them… I repeated my FD y’day and ended up with friends coming over for chocolate cake and Drambuie… This evening I’m going out to dinner and have just heard fish and chips are on the menu…

Dave- glad you have a holiday to look forward to…
Hope everyone else is okay…
Had a busy day- made brookies for son after I walked Xena, my sister came round for a coffee, saw mum for the afternoon, made fishcakes for our dinner, dropped the cakes off to son, cooked our dinner!
Tomorrow we’re going out in the evening with eldest & his gf, youngest was hoping to come but has been asked to do a shift with the full time fire crew, he doesn’t want to turn that down!
Have a good weekend everyone ๐ฅฐ
Evening everyone, a quick check in. I managed to lose a pound this week despite having a Chinese takeaway last Friday and a lunch out on Wednesday with my OH, sister and brother in law to celebrate my late mums birthday at her favourite place to go which was a local garden centre, however, I was so full that I didn’t eat anything else that day.
Dave a nice holiday to look forward.
Hemmy hope you’re enjoying time with your daughter.
Just back from visiting my friend who had the stroke and she’s incredible you wouldn’t know that anything had happened to her.
A very nice chicken tikka biryani this evening only going to eat half of it. A nice couple of glasses of white wine also.
Hope everyone else is keeping alright.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Holiday booked so better get insurance and car park booked. Looking forward to it. It’s been a lovely warm sunny day today, I played terrible at bowls but won. The team won by 6 points and we play them again on Tuesday in the cup and the have to give us 2 points start.
Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
All I do are NFDs, but each one has been quite controlled, so once life gets back on track, I’ll be ready to step in again to my regular routine.
We’re having a surprise potluck for DH at church immediately after service on Sunday, and I’ve ordered the cake and balloons and arranged for someone to pick them up and bring them, and think everything is on track. The plan is for a member of the congregation to step into the aisle to stop his progression out of church at the end of service, and for me to play “Happy Birthday” on the organ instead of a postlude. ๐๐๐ Doesn’t that sound like a fun way to say “SURPRISE!”? Now for him to feel better… I still felt non-functional on Wednesday, despite my best determination, and am far better today, so I’m hopeful he goes through the same progression in two days.
@brightonbelle What’s your DS27 going to be doing in Spain for a year? Will you be able to visit him, or will he be able to make visits home?
@snowflake56 Here’s a recipe that I’ve made with regular sized plums and it’s a SERIOUS keeper; it calls for smaller plums and it sounds as if your mirabelles are the size of the small ones it was intended for. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/3783-original-plum-torte?unlocked_article_code=1.DU4.Bpwl.n5BTRFAzQPUr&smid=share-url
@funshipfreddie Your plans for future mosaic classes sound perfect.
@jaifaim Good decision not to weigh on unfamiliar scales: who knows if they’re accurate and whether you’d know for certain. The best you could catch is if you suddenly shoot up or down a few pounds, and that’s the kind of information we need to learn to intuit–and it sounds as if you absolutely are!
@brightonbelle Yeah, traveling is fun for me too, but settling back in isn’t automatic and takes some determined focus.
@molij Enjoy your time at your sister’s; it sounds absolutely lovely!
@northgeorgia I actually heard yesterday that there are no more guidelines/rules on Covid, that it’s being treated as basically a cold, and clinics aren’t bothering to test for it anymore–which would explain why my doctor didn’t test last Saturday.
@excelsior12309 Do you know anything about current guidelines on covid, and practices regarding testing for it?
I had to get some groceries yesterday, and settled on buying DH some ice cream for his birthday treat…LOL, oh how birthday celebrations change with age and with illness when ice cream is the big treat! ๐๐
Have a grand one, everyone! Today, my focus is on enjoying my hunger: it is God’s gift that we can use to enjoy our meals when it’s time, and hunger also means we’re burning fat!
Day 16 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 231 lbs. My congestion is better than earlier in the week, but still hanging on a bit. I decided to use Flonase last night and will dose again when I get home. I realized I was occasionally getting some phantom smells like of a smoky or stuffy room, so I’m thinking it should with the lingering crud.
COVID is starting to rise again in our area. Scary stuff. Happy Friday!
Day 16 Mid-Wales ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ NFD
Itโs lovely to be in Mid-Wales with my sister. They have a beautiful place surrounded by trees and their own wood. Very good for the soul. I am trying to keep busy. We are hoping to do some family history and plan our holiday that we are hopefully having for a week the 7th September. It will depend on what the specialist says on the 3rd. Luckily we have insurance so we will be able to cancel it last minute if we need to. My hospital appointment has come through for the third of September so not too long to wait.
@northgeorgia are you over your congestion yet?
@stitchincarol happy belated birthday to your husband. So sorry to hear he has Covid. I hope he recovers soon so you can celebrate on Sunday. Glad you are feeling a bit better too.
@jaifaim hope your time away is going well.
@merryapple Thank you for the recipe. I have loads of courgettes at the moment so I am going to try it. Thank you for giving the grams as well as the cups. I have always found cups confusing and much prefer recipes that give grams.
@brightonbelle I am like you, when I travel or someone visits me it takes me a few days to get back to the rhythm of FD and NFDโs.
@jospeirs well done on your weight loss. I returned to fasting last month and I too have found it good.
@flourbaby glad your painting is complete. Enjoy the cleaning. I am not keen on cleaning but when I actually start I enjoy it.
@funshipfreddie love the quote today ๐ I like the sound of your mosaic terracotta pot for your fig tree.
@snowflake56 hope the sun comes out later so you can pick your mirabelles.
Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.
Have a Good Friday everyone and a wonderful weekend
Good morning everyone dull here but dry. Bowls again today not many weeks left off the season. All being well will book a holiday today. No idea what to have for tea tonight. What you all up to.

I do love to travel but find it takes me a while to get back to normality when I return , so no fasting this week but the good news is Iโve been steady , showing same on scales so aiming for 2 FDs next week

@snowflake56 – My FD was a breeze; I hope yours was too. Staying away from sugar/refined carbs is definitely helping to keep the cravings away. I used both to make the mosaic coasters – small purple squares to put around the borders, with a larger diamond-shaped tile in the centre. Then I cut up some glittery mirror tiles to fill in the spaces. And I used sand-coloured grout. I’m going to make a couple more next week. Then I’m thinking of getting a large terracotta pot for my ficus tree & mosaicking the heck out of it ๐

We had to go into town today, youngest popped in for a haircut this afternoon – his barber is on holiday! First time I’ve done it for a while …making some cakes for him tomorrow, he’s doing another shift with the full time fire crew so it’s to take there. We had a takeaway tonight, I’m not weighing this week!!
Hello,
I started this fast diet in 2014-15 and immediately lost 25-30 lbs after the first 3-4 months. After this I did not regularly fast and kept that weight off for 5 years. Then, the weight came back and I have tried exactly what I did the first time (fasting Tuesdays/Thursdays, 500 calories) and have not lost an ounce. No idea why my metabolism liked this diet the first time but absolutely does not work this time.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!

Day 15 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
I’m down a few ounces, so movement away from the sofa is clearly helping remove that two-pound sedentary gain. Not feeling fine yet, but functional, so that’s nice.
The good news? Today is DH’s 70th birthday! We have big plans for today, and even bigger plans for Sunday.
The bad news? I woke in the night to see him reading his tablet. Wished him happy birthday. He thanked me. And thanked me with a smile for sharing my covid with him.
sigh
So now I’m trying to figure out what I can do all at home to make it a special day, and I doubt there’s much, because he is asleep and doesn’t actually feel good.
GAH. There may still be some rescuing of Sunday’s plans, because it turns out he started feeling symptoms on Tuesday, and I was too sick then to notice.
This big milestone is not proceeding as intended…
Well got soaked playing bowls, out stopped raining so I took my coat off, you might know it then poured down but I didn’t put it back on.We finally won our game by 2 points.I won 21-17. So 2 wins pity of 2 this week. Chicken breast and a baked potato for tea.

Weigh-in: 229 lbs. I usually have a soup and salad, but yesterday I had about half the salad, a boiled egg, and no soup. I just listened to my body instead of my cravings, realizing that I was satisfied with portion I had. So, probably under 300 calories yesterday.

Day 15 – Glasgow UK, NFD
Morning all,
I returned to the 5:2 on the 5th August, so 10 days ago.
Last time round (about 10 years ago) I managed to successfully drop 1.5st/10kg/21lbs where I happily sat until the dreaded COVID took hold and all caution was thrown to the wind. My job changed from an active one to a sedentary, home bound one and slowly but surely all the weight I’d lost returned.
Over the last few years I’ve tried keto, high protein, 16:8 diets but none of them worked for me and so I decided to go back to what I know works, and here I am.
I’ve lost 3lbs in 10 days (four FDs so far), so it’s nice to see the scales moving in my preferred direction again. I have found the return to fasting quite enjoyable, maybe it’s the masochist in me, but it’s felt like reconnecting with an old pal! I just hope our relationship is as fruitful this time as it was last.
As a returner it’s so nice to see that the forum is still active and there’s still lots of peer support to be found in these pages.
Wishing everyone a wonderful day from rainy Glasgow!
Day 15, London, UK, FD
Quick one from me today, deadlines, deadlines!
Yesterday’s NFD went well. I got home late and rather than prepare something I just had a piece of cheese & some nuts, not ideal, but enough to get me through the night and minimal food last night should make today a relatively easy FD๐๐ผ
I’m at the house every evening, now the painting is complete, deep cleaning. Had hoped to hire a company, but of the 4 I asked for a quote …………. NONE got back to me!!!๐ก Well, I’m happy to apply some elbow grease myself & pocket the cash!๐ค The house is grubby rather than filthy so it should be ok!๐ค๐ฝ

Day 15 โ South Africa ๐ฟ๐ฆ โ FD
@flourbaby – Uber laundry – just plain laziness, & an aversion to driving for more than 5 minutes ๐ฅด๏ธ But if you saw the state of our roads, & the way most lunatics drive here?! ๐ฑ I can highly recommend retirement ๐ Love the quote!
@stitchincarol – good to hear you’re on mend ๐ค The mosaic class was delightful. I’ve got a few ideas of what to do next, & there’s so much info on-line too.
The exercise pill…?

Not in the mood for a FD today, but it’s got to be done. At least the weather’s improved & it’s good walking weather. The wind was awful the whole day yesterday, +75 km/h ๐ฌ
โThree things are essential in fasting:
1. Purpose of Fasting
2. Mindset of Fasting
3. Effects of Fasting
Don’t ignore any of these three pillars of fasting.โ

Day 15, Germany, FD
Early ballroom lesson today and then a bit of shopping in the Netherlands.
@excelsior12309 We have good and bad mirabelles years. We don’t spray them either so in some the are full of small wurms, some years we have loads, some years we have hardly any.
@flourbaby What are you going to do with the plums? We are lucky to have neighbours with four children and a baking mum next door, being at a sports club also helps.
@funshipfreddie You are so right, I don’t really need to lose weight, I’m fine at the weight I am. I think I’ll just keep this weight as my maintenance weight and use 5:2 as a way to stay healthy. Thank you for reminding me why I’m doing this, it’s not about being slim but staying healthy.

Evening!
Dave- fish slime, lovely ๐ Denise is doing well! Hope you can find somewhere to go on holiday, you might get a bargain…
I have done keto for quite a while before, it is difficult, but I don’t feel very good when I eat too many carbs so hope I’ll feel better with it…
Another hot day here, did our shopping, a big pile of ironing I’ve been putting off, & made some cheese bread again we had with salad tonight (while I can still eat it ๐).
Hope everyone is okay…
Good evening,a pleasant day’s fishing, caught a few so not a bad day. Had a shower to get rid of the fish slime. Chloe was sniffing it๐คช๐. Denise is under 800 again so she’s doing great.I think we might be going to book a holiday tomorrow ๐๐ซฐ.

Day 14 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
I believe I am returning to the land of the living. I was not all that sick, but was sick enough that I did absolutely nothing but sit, knit when I felt like it, and have the TV on for entertainment. I’m up two pounds, but am trusting that with some movement, they’ll fall away again, because I truly did not eat badly.
@bert1802 I’m enjoying the “music” you gave us the link for. It’s soothing and relaxing. I have a real problem believing it’ll cause me to lose weight, but it’s pleasant. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
@funshipfreddie Your mosaic class sounds delightful!
I slept well last night, and took the last of my anitibiotic and steroid this morning, so it’s time to see if I can’t get some energy into these bones, tidy up the corner of the sofa I’ve occupied for the last few days, and come to life.
Have a grand one, everyone!
