Standard Sunday Fast Day for me. Cinque you are a very funny. Thanks for making me laugh.
GDSA, thanks for your explanation – I can certainly see why you’d start an extended fast in the evening if there’s a good chance it might end after 50 hours. But I’m more interested in a 72 hour fast which obviously ends at the same time of day that it begins. It’s the end time that interests me. If you were to start (and end) a 72 hour fast at, say, 6pm, you could equally argue that you’d be wasting the final night’s sleep by not fasting. That’s really why I’m asking – I suppose it’s down to personal preference.
My brother didn’t quite make the 72 hours; his friend did. (they’re not romantically involved, just great mates). They both took electrolytes. I believe a strict daily eating window will be vitally important to her if she’s to see any reduction in her tumours. She’s decided to reject surgical intervention which is of great concern to my brother but he wants to support her in whatever she decides. So he’s hoping to attempt 72 hour fasting regularly.
I originally arrived here while researching breast cancer treatments when my dear friend was diagnosed ten years ago. A Canadian doctor discovered anecdotally that his advanced cancer patients who fasted had good results. The cancer cells, having previously only ever been poisoned, didn’t know how to behave when starved and essentially ‘committed suicide’. He was saying this was unproven so ‘don’t try it at home’ but people got wind of it and, because it’s free and they had nothing to lose, more and more did in fact fast, many to good effect.
One contraindication of course was that the patient may not be strong enough to withstand prolonged fasting. The side effect of weight loss was how I was ultimately led towards IF and 5:2 and these pages.
I don’t think I could manage 72 hours of strict fasting but I’m going to employ an eating window. It makes good sense. I know it works for Lindsay. I am impressed that yours (GDSA) is only four hours. hope I can convince OH (or do it in a way that he doesn’t actually notice).
CalifD, I’m sorry that your days are so long with the intensive care regime. For weeks, I’ve been toying with providing you with some light relief but didn’t want to burden you with even more to do. I’ve decided to do it and you can ignore if you wish. The link is to ONE SECOND of every day of the 16 months that my DD spent in central and south America. It’s about 8-9 minutes long.
LJ, I think you might like it too as you’ve recently visited some of these places. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=h5_NBo5O4vE&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaYA3uQRsQBjJMG054RwscotHNvbjSUF8-fRWP-Qi9OoR9frxpfImjAFaIE_aem_edMMTNKrvfkxtpqp4wmpNA
Good afternoon everyone…. Its a beautiful day.
We had a weather warning for today of storms..and now i see the local forecast has changed and all clear. So very annoying for those that have cancelled out side events.
I am having an easy Sunday .. I have changed the bed and got that all dry.. and been to the local shop.
Its roast beef slices in baguette today no cooking. I will have a good read in the garden this afternoon..
Dave.. Like Sym I am with BT been with them forever since I can remember.Overall no problems with them. Lots in the village always complaining about different ones.
Sym… Your lemon marmalade sounds lovely .. I had forgotten about the lemon one as always buy orange.
How is Philip.
Enjoy your day all .. A happy Sunday makes for a happy week. Xxxx
Day 1-No VA USA-FD 800
Hello, all. Joining everyone for Succeed in September! I am 74, still practicing as a pediatrician (still trying to sell my office building, it is the portal to retiring!). I have a husband and two adult children, as well as two adult stepchildren and their three step grandchildren who live about two hours away. Also assorted dogs and now two cats. And a koi pond. etc etc.
My goal this month is to drop 2 pounds; I am within 6 pounds of my goal weight, but have been bobbing around the past month not really consistently going down ward. So this is a good time for a re-start.
Pocket list day 1:
@funshipfreddie
@excelsior12309–FD800
Morning All..
A good dry walk but rain has started now it wasn’t forecast.
The tractors are out, harvesting is being collected in, the fields are getting to be bare, a change of season, all is well…🥰
I managed 10 jars of lemon marmalade, I shall give Phillip 5… it’s a bit loose as hardly any pips for the pectin, still very delicious.
A relaxing day nothing much happening here… a couple of things to iron…
Dave..
I am with BT we tried the others but find this one better and quicker for our area. I am on the fast one but not as fast as you.
What meats on offer for dinner today?
Jean x
Good morning everyone going to buy my Freeview box today so Denise dosent miss all her soaps. On the lookout for a new broadband provider. Think it will be Vodafone if not EE. The sun as just come out so looking good for today. First day of Autumn, where did summer go.
Day 1 UK NFD
Good morning all I’m the host this month , I’m 62F living on the south coast of England with DH and have 2 sons .
I joined @coda on the very first of theses monthly challenges 8 years ago and have been fasting ever since with varying degrees of success . I had a serious health issue last year and that’s made me determined to get to my healthy happy place but age etc is making it tough going .
I’m aiming for a significant drop this month I’ve been re- reading the Fast 800 book and going to adopt that way of eating , but typical of me , I have stuff planned for today – so starting tomorrow
Looking forward to sharing the journey with you all
Thank you for the spreadsheet @merry🍎

@brightonbelle – thank you for hosting this month’s Challenge, & thanks to @merryapple for the spreadsheet 🙏
About me:- David, 62, originally from Manchester, England. Retired & living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Been 5:2-ing/IF-ing since 2014. I joined the Challenges in 2018. Currently maintaining at 70.5 kg. I do basic 5:2, having around 600 – 700 cals on FDs – one evening meal – and I have an eating window of around 12 noon to 8 pm on NFDs.
@davinac – welcome to the forum! 3.5 kg is pretty impressive in 3 weeks. But you don’t give much info, e.g. how close to your goal weight are you? How are you navigating your FDs, etc…?
@snowflake56 – enjoy the party! 🥳️🥂
Wishing everyone a Successful September! What better way to start the month than with a fast day? 🎯

Day 1, Germany, NFD 63.2 kg
Good morning everyone!
@brightonbelle Thanks you for guiding us through this month and @merryapple for providing the spreadsheet again!
I’m a Dutchwoman living in the upper North-West of Germany, married, 68 years old, 163 cm/5’4″ tall. I’m here on and off since 2017, lost a lot of weight and gained a lot again. I’m fine with the weight I have at the moment so I’m try to maintain that.
We’re off to celebrate my SIL’s 70th birthday, this is going to be a good day.
Have a nice day everyone!

Here’s the sheet everyone
Thanks for the introduction @brightonbelle!!
It took me 1.5 hours to get through to virgin and then they only vent on because I said I would be reporting what was going on,on facebook. It worked, they knocked £30 off so I told them to cancel my subscription. They kept trying but in the end I have managed to leave them. My contract ends on the 30th of September.
Evening All..
A busy day faffing, shopping for lemons took 3 shops as I needed the right weight.. I have made 10 jars of lemon marmalade, I shall share them with Philip son in law.
Took me longer than I remember.
A lovely day Friday we went on to the river bank to the boat cafe took Jacqui with me, it was so quiet we sat there for two hours.
Dave..
Hope you got virgin all sorted it takes ages to get through…
Hedgehog..
Hope you can get back into keto, I have given up now until October after holiday. Have a good bbq with the boys.
Hemmy..
Keep saying must get some cider I do like it.. just for a change.
I bought cooked turkey and also cooked ham, two packets for £5 instead of £6.. better quality but well worth it.. two meals out of each packet.
Looking at meditation, spiritual awareness, inner peace, it’s making me feel much better, more contented.. I suppose. Doing a lot of research.

USA. DAY 31. FD
Today I hope I have a better FD. I am having a little trouble getting back into the swing of things! I am working on it.
Stitchincarol, congratulations on your 4lb. loss. Way to go!
Jaifaim, congratulations on your loss this month and thank you again for ushering us through August. I can’t believe the month is over!
Pocket List – Day 31 🥕
@at FD800
@ccco
Hope everyone is having a lovely day! See you all in September!
The first time I switched to 6:1 I gradually put weight back on and it was harder to get off again than when I first did 5:2.
However, having also changed what I’m eating a huge amount over the last 2 years (following a Zoe nutrition guide, cutting out ultra-processed food, minimising things with lots of sugar or artificial sweeteners and trying to eat a lot more different plants each week – including nuts, seeds herbs and spices) I switched to 6:1 quite successfully and I’m currently as light as I’ve ever been since becoming a teenager.
I’ve been 5:2/6:1’ing now for 11.5 years very successfully, so I hope it continues to go well for you.
Hi Jennifer,
From memory the advice is to ensure you eat sufficient protein on your Fast Days.
I know of other studies which show that exercising on an empty stomach shouldn’t be an issue, but you could just try changing your gym day one week, or not going, and then see how you feel.
It does take a little while to adjust to 5:2 and 2 weeks is very early in the process. I hope it works for you (I’ve been on it for 11.5 years, so it can be a sustainable way of life).
Best of luck.
Good afternoon everyone. Xxxx
Its a disappointing day here.. forecast was sunshine .. but it s been windy and cloudy quite chilly at the moment.
Its our village fete today.. just been for an hour but its getting a bit old hat now I think. It needs new younger blood to organize it.
Called at the Coop for cold beef slices and crusty baguette dinner this evening.. I have put myself on holiday this weekend lolol as I rarely go away.
Since Kristy came 2 weeks ago no wine at all a few ciders.and I really notice the difference with eating too.. Not so hungry . Wine seems to start me wanting sweet treats. Cider doesnt ..It sonly 4% Alco
H H .. Enjoy your BBQ with your boys.. X
Dave.. I don’t know how you resist those scales..lolol its my first thing every morning .. it keeps me on track.
Sym… What are you up to today, x
Enjoy your Saturday everyone.. “Loving yourself isn’t vanity; it’s sanity.” Xxxx
Day 0 – Rural Nebraska, USA
@brightonbelle I object to calling your more concise posts a failing; you are who you are, and it’s fine for you to be you. ❤️🥰😂👍 And I love your alliteration!
I’ll be here in September, although I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so I may or may not be able to post before Monday. We’ll see!
Day 31 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 160.4
Whoop-whoop-whoop!!! I’ve lost another pound over last Saturday. I weighed myself multiple times over the course of twenty minutes, just to make sure the scale wasn’t going to turn into Cruella, and actually was also 160.0 and then 159.8, but I’m content with what I listed at the top. Somehow, somewhere, I have once again found my mojo, and I can’t say it’s strong and inflexible, but it’s strong enough that I’ve lost a pound each week for three weeks now, and somewhere in the month I dropped another pound, so my official August report?
Beginning: 164.4
Ending: 160.4
Lost: 4 lbs
First time I’ve lost weight in a month for well over a year!
@snowflake56 Wow, I’m tired just reading your description of Friday; it was busy indeed! And it’s so impressive that you speak three languages (more??) and are going to read only English books next month. Impressive. Oh, and well done for maintaining even in the face of eating well!
@funshipfreddie It turned into a completely different day because I’d forgotten about a 1:15 car appointment in Omaha (the car is being recalled because of an airbag issue), and DH had tons to do, and we really did need to go see his mom. So, on the way home, I picked up sushi from a place that has a drive through (?!?! LOL), and we had sushi at home (and glorious sushi it was, too) and were out the door by 5:45 to drive the hour in the opposite direction to gather with his three siblings. We all watched the Nebraska Women’s Volleyball team win their game last night, so it was a nice evening. We’ll have to have oysters another time…
@davinac Welcome to our group, but come join us “in September,” where we’ll praise you for the 3.5 kg you’ve already lost and help you sort out possible solutions so you start losing again: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/succeed-in-september/#post-357132
@jaifaim Nicely done to end the month at 153!!! Thanks for your hosting, and family stuff ALWAYS comes before hosting duties. 🥰❤️ See you in September!
@brightonbelle Thre have been many months when I was simply relieved I didn’t gain another pound, so I fully understand your satisfaction with August!
@flourbaby Thinking of you as you move and begin the process of settling in!
I made some good progress on tax bookwork yesterday, but the unexpected car appointment put an early stop to my progress. Today is the first Nebraska football game of the season (“Go Big Red!”) and I have a little church work to do and some groceries to buy, so there will be plenty going on, but I should still be able to make some dramatic progress. I have today’s food planned out, and all should be good!
Have a grand one, everyone.
We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline wieghs ounces while regret weighs tons. –Jim Rohn
Day 31 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 233 lbs. Hoping to find a day to fast over this holiday weekend. Next week has various events coming up, so it will be a tough week. Still, resolve. I want to get to 228 next month in spite of the interruptions.
Day 31 UK NFD
Thank you @jaifaim for hosting 💐I’m finishing at the same weight I started so with everything I’ve had on I’ll take that as a good result
See you in September 👋
Day 31 – Ireland – CD – 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽♀️ 🌾
153 lbs
Hello everyone and well done on getting through Atomic August… what a group⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you all for the teamwork this month as I felt some extra life pressures and hosting came second to those.
I am happy to be closing August out at my mid-maintenance range but will have to keep it stable for the next two weeks as then all bets are off being stateside.. big portions, holiday times and fun with friends. 💕
Looking forward to next month @brightonbelle thank you so so much. See you all there!
Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕
Hi there from a very hot Germany. I started 5.2 5 weeks ago and lost 3.5 kg.
The last 2 weeks haven’t lost a gramm. It’s a bit depressing but I will continue because I am loving getting a flatter stomach. Maybe next week will be better. Has anyone else experienced this not losing weight?
Day 31 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
Where did Atomic August go? Happy to say I maintained, down about 0.4 kg for the month.
@brightonbelle – don’t thank me, I’m sure I copied/pasted too 😅
@snowflake56 – you’re so busy! Well done for maintaining this month. You actually lost close to a kilo! 🎯
@excelsior12309 – that was a lovely story about Crayola the Cat 😻
@stitchincarol – where did you eventually finish up eating?
@jaifaim – thanks so much for hosting Atomic August 💐 Happy travels! 🌎 ✈️
Well done to everyone who maintained/lost or just about clung to the wagon this month. See you soon in Succeed in September

Day 31, Germany, CD
My weight stayed about the same this month, I’m pleased with that as I ate well.
We had a lovely busy day yesterday. Weeded the driveway, cut back holly, cleaned attic windows until a lot of wasps came out of a nest under the roof tiles (?) so I’ll have to finish the cleaning this morning. We went to the DIY shop to get paint and wood and from there to see if the lovely book lady still has her shop at the charity shop in a town nearby to ask if we can bring a lot of boxed books from friends that past away. Yes, she is and can use more books and we bought 23 books from the English section (not that we don’t have any, but it’s always nice to have a choice). I plan to read only books in English next month. We looked at a house for sale at our street, it is an absolute wreck on the inside. Then we could sit down because the Afghan neightbours didn’t show up to practice German with us.
@jaifaim You must be looking forward to much to your holiday next month. Thank you so much for being such a lovely host this month!
@merryapple Does the exhibition start this weekend, can we see it online somewhere? I hope the interview went well.
@funshipfreddie You mosaic design looks lovely. I think it’s a good decision to take the petals the teacher made, you can try to make them yourself as your skills grow. Thank you for offering to host November.
@flourbaby The day has finally come! I wish you and Bo-Bo much happiness and a lovely life in your new house.
@ccco I hope your FD went well!
@stitchincarol I hope your headache went after a good night’s sleep. It’s interesting you sleep well after a FD, I often don’t. I sleep best after a warm evening meal.
@brightonbelle I’m looking forward to the next challenge and will try to succeed.
@excelsior12309 It seems my DH and I are one of the few people that love moving. It’s so exciting to start something new.
@penz How was your year off? Are you looking forward to go to work again?
Have a nice day everyone and see you on the Spetember challenge!
Saturday morning in Melbourne. No wind at the moment.
Quacka, Hooray for a lovely fast day frame of mind, and getting into the 5:2 rhythm.
Woot for gym junkiness!
A year’s experience with LPR makes me presume that your esophagus had got badly inflamed with that reflux trouble years ago and you are now pretty successfully stopping it from getting that bad again. Hooray! But sympathy for not being able to eat enormous amounts of pickled chillies!
Anzac, you psychic woman you!
Looking forward to that post!
Hello LJoyce.
Suzy, sympathy for the lost post, it has happened to all of us here. Thanks for replacing it with a new wonderful newsy post.
I do so hope you can soon do more things with your 10 year old. Even though exercise doesn’t use up as much calories as we imagine, hooray that it does so all the other things.
Good luck with that cold front, we are getting one too. A windy one. Again.
I’m also thinking soup, and cauliflower was good and cheap at the shop the other day so that is the soup I am making. I wish I had a couple of your leeks for it!
I’ll cheer you AND Neil on with the rugby! Good luck!
Isn’t it great when you have such yummy eating options for fast days!
Thin, hello. Just having a moment of envy of a life in a small place with not much stuff.
On the other hand, I loved living in a huge house with my usual amount of stuff. It took ages before it looked too messy! Haha I am more Mr Thin style. (I had a friend who was very much a tidyupperer but unfortunately he was already married. I would have snaffled him just for that trait!)
Cali, hello. Sending you good wishes for refreshing sleep and good fast days.
I hope this week the scales do a good step down after being irritatingly stuck for a while.
Gday, nice work!
I hope you can enjoy that bite of cake and then have a lovely fast.
Hello to everyone else! I’m having a pottering round day and extra small meals so it is almost a fast day.
Time to make soup.
NO WEIGHING can’t believe that, it will kill you. I can go months with the scales if I wanted to. I’ll have a cuppa then go to bed.
Good morning all.
Pleasing results this morning for my fortnightly body measurements:
Chest – no change
Waist – lost 3.5cm
Hips – no change
Left upper arm – lost 2cm
Right upper arm – lost 1cm
Left upper thigh – lost 3cm
Right upper thigh – lost 2.5cm
Neck – lost 1cm
Weight loss for the week exactly 1kg
I decided to hold off on my extended fast until Sunday afternoon due to Father’s Day. Miss GDay has asked her dad over for afternoon tea, she is making him a cake so it makes sense to start my fast after my small piece of cake. I don’t really want to eat cake at all but this is one of those occasions where I feel obliged to eat it.
Have a great weekend everyone
Evening!
Dave- all sounds very complicated 😂
Jean- hope you had a lovely day with Jacqui, enjoy the treats…
Hemmy-well done with your weight!
I’ve been reading up lots of a keto forum- lots of scientific debates & research, the idea with keto is to stick to it so your metabolism can reset before doing much fasting, everyone says don’t look at the scales for a month but measure if you want…I didn’t do the last time, jumped straight into long fasts, so will give it a go & leave it a bit before I fast, maybe just IF if I’m not too hungry, & no weighing!
Short notice but both the boys are coming for dinner tomorrow night, will do a BBQ…
Have a good weekend everyone!
USA. September
See you all again soon!
USA
BrightonBelle, thank you for ushering us through September. See you and everyone this month!
USA. Day 30. FD
Good morning! Another FD! Hope I can stick this one out!
Have a great day! 👍🏻
Day 30 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
I struggled constantly yesterday, but kept reminding myself that when I’m hungry and my stomach is growling, that’s when I’m losing weight, and so I managed to persevere. THEN, I slept quite badly, which is very unusual for the night after a FD of any kind, and now I’ve woken up with a headache. But, who cares, because I’ve dipped WAY down, and tomorrow morning should be at the weight that’ll be an official pound down from last Saturday morning. 😂 If hunger, bad sleep, and a headache are the price I pay to lose weight, I’m willing… 🤷🏻♀️
The challenge, of course, is to choose food wisely today. Tonight, we’re choosing between two restaurants that both have oysters on the half shell (one of our favorites, but I’ve had zero success in learning to shuck them, so we just go out) which are VERY low calorie and both places have them for a dollar each. Whatever I choose to go with them will be minimal, which leaves the question of what to have for lunch. Perhaps nothing. I need to think further on that.
@ccco 3-6pm is also my nemesis! My best tool is to go somewhere and do something. Wandering Hobby Lobby is good; going to church and organizing music is good, going to Menard’s and wandering the light fixtures (Menard’s is like Home Depot), and so is getting caught up in a project here at home. None of them are infallible, however. Will any of those–or similar activities–work for you? Didn’t you say you like to golf?? Or am I making that up? Can you meet a friend to golf at that time? To go for a walk at that time? What about a zoom call with someone at that time?
@merryapple Your interview is taped tomorrow, isn’t it? Have fun with all the busy, busy, busy of the next few days!
@penz And even though my kids ahave been “out of the nest” for over a decade, the beginning and ending of school both have the same feeling of excitement. Funny how those things carry their own emotions, regardless of our situation!
@snowflake56 Have fun with your busy day.
@funshipfreddie Nicely done on being down over a few days ago, and maintaining so well. I like your start on your mosaic pot!
@jaifaim Oh how fun to know you’ll be on the same continent as we Americans on this forum! Have a grand time with your friends! And thanks ever so much for hosting August; since you’re at 154 today, you’ve clearly attained your goal of staying at maintenance weight, and your friends will be so impressed to see how glorious you look!
@funshipfreddie OH! I missed entirely your November offer that @jaifaim thanked you for, so thanks to you and @excelsior12309 and @brightonbelle for your hosting offers!
@brightonbelle I’ll be there in September, and if I continue as I’ve been going, I’ll finally be on a downward slope!
@flourbaby Yup, your house sounds exactly right for a woman who’s in the process of moving. It’s the absolute worst part of moving, is the commotion before it’s done! But I’ll bet by Monday, you’ll have enough order in your new house that you’ll be absolutely glowing, and THEN you can think again about fasting. ❤️❤️👍👍💪💪
@excelsior Are the cats to be permanent members of your family, or only on loan to catch mice?
@northgeorgia Yup, you’ve done it before, so you can do it now. I have every confidence you can find the various pieces of the puzzle and resume your weight loss journey! And your weight this morning proves that at least most of that gain was indeed EOEO. 👍
I’ve just realized DH and I should go see his mom again this evening. Sadly, that’s an hour in the opposite direction of the two restaurants we’re considering. And the only places to eat that are lovely in her town are all high calorie places. Ugh. We’ll see what happens.
Have a grand one, everyone!
You are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way…
Day 30 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 231 lbs. Looking forward to the challenges of September with the holiday this weekend, several major events every other week, and me working my way through it all to get into the 220s, hopefully leaving the 230s for good. I’ve done it before, so…
Day 20-No. VA USA-NFD
Well, good luck on your move, @flourbaby. Moving is supposed to be one of the great “life stressors”, and I am sure it is, but the reward will be worth it. Bo-bo will adjust; animals don’t compare notes, so they don’t know that everyone else isn’t doing it. It will build character, as my mother used to say!
@merryapple, I hope you will be able to post pictures of the installation. It sounds exciting.
@funshipfreddie, your creation is off to a lovely start!. that is exciting to see, too.
@jaifaim, I hope your travels go well. I haven’t been back to Long Island since I graduated med. school in 1982! The traffic was always a hassle there, but honestly, around Washington and No VA the traffic is just as aggravating.
@stichincarol, I hope your health is holding up…you have had a stressful August.
The giant cat and his smaller sidekick remain confined to the house for the weekend, but eventually will be introduced to their outside quarters. We shall see how that goes…
Day 30, London UK, NFD
I’m here, I’m posting, I’m not fasting!! The house is upside down and the kitchen looks like a tornado blew through it!!
Anyway, I’ll be back on track for September for sure!! Thanks for all the volunteer hosts taking us through the next 3 months, I’ll set myself a 3 month target knowing the challenges are all sorted before I start!💪🏼💪🏼
I’ll sign off now for Atomic August, the scales are packed in box #2 ……….. or was it box #6???😲😲 Probably best left where they are until I start to ‘Succeed in September’!!
Bo-Bo😻 & I will see y’all on the other side!!🙏🏼🙏🏼
“The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.” – Marie Kondo
Day 30 UK NFD
That’s my problem time too @ccco ! I can’t say I’ve entirely beat it but 1, I try to avoid being in the kitchen so on FDs I usually prep the evening meal earlier on when my resolve is strong 2, as @funshipfreddie suggests have some “good “ snacks to hand – carrot batons work for me
Ooh that trip will be fabulous @jaifaim 🗽
Good Luck for tomorrow @flourbaby
I’ve set up next month – Succeed in September 💫 and even with my shameless copy and pasting – thank you @funshipfreddie – that was an effort so be prepared for a “light touch “ hosting next month
See you tomorrow for end of month
Welcome to Succeed in September💫 I’m taking over from @jaifaim who guided us through Atomic August🟢🔵🟡
I’m committed to posting every day , but my posts tend to be on the short side , but we have plenty of very eloquent posters who will make up from my shortcomings.
These monthly challenges were started by @coda in May 2016 and have been going strong ever since. Goals can be overwhelming when viewed as a whole. But by breaking them down into small achievable pieces (monthly challenges), we are able to stay focused and motivated to accomplish our goals one step at a time in bite-sized monthly challenges. There are no rules, but as a general guide, here are some tips for any new people:
1. Posting – Please start each post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you’re on a fast day (FD), non-fast day (NFD) or controlled day (CD). We’re all over the world and in different time zones so it helps us keep track of which day we’re talking about, who else is fasting with us on a particular day etc. Look at the various posts, and you’ll soon see the pattern, and will learn how useful it is for reading.
2. In your first post, please introduce yourself to the group – this helps us to get to know each other, which is especially helpful for newbies. Perhaps say something about where you started, your journey so far, what you’re aiming for or how you are benefiting from fasting. You might like to include your starting weight or your goals for the month. But you don’t have to – share only what you are comfortable sharing online.
3. Spreadsheet – we will have a spreadsheet available and we will post the link on a separate post when we have it. It will be in alphabetical order by username. If you find it helpful, you can use it to record and track your progress as well as keeping track of how others are doing. It can help with perspective, accountability or planning. And if you need help just ask – there’s always someone happy to help. But you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. It’s just another tool you can use if you choose.
4. Frequency – Some people post daily, others check in every few days. Some are brief, others are long and chatty. If you’re posting for a second time in the same day please head your post e.g. Day 1 – 2nd Post. Past history shows that posting every day truly does help with motivation for staying on track with your goals, so please don’t feel shy about suddenly posting daily; we love new members!
5. Content of your post– Comments or questions, complaints or celebration – anything you’d like to share with the forum. Recipes, tips, tricks and bright ideas are always welcome. Remember: we all have good days and bad days, days we fall off the wagon or days when we are hanging on by our fingernails, days when our mojo deserts us and days where we feel completely in control. So DON’T GIVE UP – whatever it is, you are not alone!
6.Community – This is a worldwide forum so there’s usually someone online. We all do our best to offer advice, support and solidarity
7. Pocket lists –A ‘pocket list’ is a list of the names of people who are sharing the same goal on a particular day. It’s great psychological support in mentally keeping that list in our back pocket, knowing we’re not alone. Anyone can join a pocket list or start a pocket list. Typical pocket lists are for FD but in the past they’ve been used for people doing daily exercise or planks, or DTF (dry till Friday)
8.5:2 basics – answers to many FAQs plus top tips:

9.The “rule”. The F word is not allowed!! (This is the only time I will use it – but here, the F word is FAIL.). We all stumble in our journey – it happens. But acknowledge it, think about what you can do next time, and continue. We’re all here to help!
We tend to use a LOT of abbreviations in these posts. Here’s a guide to some of the more frequently used ones:

OK Let’s go ! Let’s Succeed in September 💪
Good morning everyone up early by my standards. Couldn’t sleep so got up and in the shower.Ive not contacted virgin yet, been looking round at what I need. I’ve got Prime video and can watch the football on MCTV,if I buy the Freeview box I can always put sport on that, think it would be a lot cheaper Than what I pay for sport now. The box would cost approximately what I would pay for 2 months virgin tv and broadband. I’ve looked at broadband and I think Vodafone would be the one I go for. Around £30 per month for fast broadband. I’d look into getting sport on now TV the box I would buy also as android TV so you can put apps on it. Don’t know how many but definitely the ones to pay for TNT Sports and Sky sports. So I will see what that comes to. And can cancel it when the football ends until the next season begins.

Our posts crossed but Bravo on the great FD @funshipfreddie 👏 and thanks for offering to host November 😇😇
Good morning everyone. Xxxx
Its another beautiful day .. its lovely to see that blue sky and sunshine.
I am back to my best weight this morning .. it will be harder in winter when not so active..
I really enjoyed my soup I made yesterday ..I am going to keep it going.. Years ago I always had a soup on the go .. Andrews mother a good cook always had a pot on the go. She continually added to it ..I did the same. Kristy and her friends loved it.
H H .. These dogs remind me of naughty children at times.lol They understand well enough words like ” treats ” lol
I so envy your easy reach of the sea. We are so far away.. but easy reach of the beautiful Cotswolds.. so shouldn’t moan really.
Dave.. Not long till your holiday..
Sym… Have a lovely day with your daughter..X I think its just natural instinct for the dogs to chase cats. At least I never get any in the garden lol.
Have a good day all .. Happy Friday Xxxx
Day 30 – Ireland – CD – 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽♀️ 🌾
154 lbs
Happy Friday everyone! Great to see so many posting and wonderful to have the next two months planned in terms of the hosting… thank you @brightonbelle and @excelsior12309 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
@flourbaby what a weekend for you and no surprise you are feeling stressed with it all and I’m sure Bo-Bo is feeling it too but you will both get there and into your beautiful new home – isn’t it such a shame that it is such a tough process for something that is just wonderful 💕
I don’t have your pressures but am feeling “off” this week.. anxiety a little high but just working through it and know it passes.
@penz so great you’re back in the zone with us. I’d like to think someone will always be here to welcome people back on track 🚂 . Month by month we get there. 🤗
@stitchincarol I’m off to the USA – I have not been in a long time and honestly it’s not the best time to be away from home etc but it has been planned for a long time.. it is a delayed 50th birthday celebration with two school friends.. New York (Long Island) and Boston over 2.5 weeks. They are doing most of the organising as they live in NYC/Long Island – cannot wait to see them – it has been way too long. It was originally planned in 2020.
@merryapple I hope you had the most fabulous day yesterday! I’m sure it all went wonderfully well! It will be lovely to see some pictures. Are they all Billy Apple’s artworks or a mix of artists? ♥️♥️
Ok must fly – apologies – I’m not 100% present right now…
Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕
Quacka, wonderful to see you back here again! And glad to hear you’re doing the 5:2. I had been away for a long while, but am back again and doing the 5:2 as well. It took a few weeks for it to feel natural again. What days are you fasting? I’m doing Monday and Thursdays because that worked well before.
Thin, thank you for asking about me. I’ve just been getting OH to bed late a lot of nights and then feeling tired. I’ve been sleeping a little better some nights. I’ve been stuck in the 66’s for a couple weeks. I’ve been faithfully sticking to my Fast days so I know it will eventually come off.
Good to see everyone here again. But my eyelids are feeling droopy. I need to get some sleep. Hope everyone has a good day!
Day 30 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.2 kg
Had an excellent FD, down half a kilo from the last time I weighed myself a few days ago 💪
@merryapple – all the best for the exhibition! 🎨
@flourbaby – I hope your big move goes smoothly & that you & Bo-Bo are nicely settled this weekend 🏡
@excelsior12309 – thanks for offering to host October. I’ll throw my hat in for November. There, we’re all sorted for almost the rest of the year 🎯
@ccco – how do you usually schedule your FDs? Couldn’t you use a few of your calories between 3 – 6 pm? Just munch on something very low cal, that is going to relieve your hunger, rather than antagonise it?
@snowflake56 – you were asking about cutting the flower petals a few days ago? I guess I’m cheating. Our teacher has loads of them pre-cut in little bags, all different colours & sizes. She says it’s actually very easy. But I’m using hers, at least for the first side of the square vase I’m working on. I made a good start the other day… https://imgur.com/a/WJstAil
So cold here, but nice & sunny. Looking forward to lunch & a long walk 🌤 🌈
Happy Fri-yay! 🍹
That should read getting at the ‘end’ of the day for me
Thin as I eat within a 4 hour window each day, I start my fast after I eat so for me I would start between 2 and 4pm. It makes sense to start a fast after the last meal of the day, whatever time that may be, because then you are using your sleep time as the first part of the fast. Starting a fast at any other time of the day makes no sense.
For example: If you were to eat an evening meal at 6pm, then sleep for the night and the following morning have breakfast at 8am and then start your fast, this scenario makes no sense. You’ve already fasted from the 6pm evening meal through to 8am so why have breakfast and then start a fast when you’ve already got 14 hours fasting under your belt.
As for the end time, I keep going until I feel like I’m done, so it could be anywhere from 50 hours to 70 plus hours. I do have a rule when it comes to breaking a fast, I will only break it early within my 4 hour eating window. If for some reason it’s getting to the end of my normal 4 hour eating window and I still haven’t broken my fast, then I will continue to fast until the following day. I do this because its getting at the day for me (early riser and early to bed) so I figure I may as well keep fasting to make the most of the night’s fasting sleep time.
I always break my fast with 3 hard boiled eggs as they are easy on the gut and then over the next four hours of my eating window I will have several smaller meals of things that are not too heavy, again, food that is easy on the gut.
During my fasts I take electrolytes (which I take every day anyway) as they don’t break a fast and I also drink plenty of water, organic green tea and 2 coffees in the morning as again, these don’t break a fast.
Day 30, Germany, CD
just a quick post as I’m having a busy day ahead of me.
@molij Just take you time and try to get as much help you can for your mental wellbeing as you can. We had it when my DH had a major surgery last December, it was an immenense help to us both.
@funshipfreddie I’m glad you have power back for at least a few hours every day.
@merryapple No way we’re dancing in cowboy boots, we don’t like country music. We can wear whatever we like.
@flourbaby I hope everything is well with Bo Bo and he calmed down at bit.
@brightonbelle Thank you so much for offering to host September and @excelsior12309 for offering to do October.
Have a nice day everyone!
Morning All…
Looks a lovely day, we seem to be having heavy clouds every day so keeps the temperature down.
Going to the park then on to pick things up from the bakery…Jacqui is coming about 10am.. back to school on Monday her…
Hedgehog..
Yes the newbies come and go.. do they find it too hard?? I suppose we do it without thinking….
The treats are out and he is in training.. although he always is.. dallys soon take a mile when they can.
I worry when we leave the house as he will chase cats.. I try and have him on lead… or a long lead if washing car and he’s in his bed.
Dave..
Hope you can find your new tv.
Jean x
Day 30, NFD, Aus
Even though I am not working at the moment, Fridays still have that magical – it’s-about-to-be-the-weekend feel to them.
Thanks for offering to host next month @brightonbelle and for October, @excelsior12309. Great to have such enthusiasm to keep this forum going.
All the best for the move @flourbaby.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Quacka, welcome back! Pleased to see you here and especially to know that you’ll be fasting twice a week. We need more fasters here.
Cinque, that’s great that you can enjoy your two coffees without any ill-effects. It had fun reading your answer to my cheeky question – maybe you need to live like me with very few possessions so there would be fewer potential things out of place! I put everything away after use and then I spend a lot of time putting things away that my OH leaves out. We have 57 feet to walk and if I’m going in the direction that the item should go, I take it with me. He on the other hand leaves the item wherever he used it.
SuzyQ, commiserations on the lost post. I think we’ve all done it. It’s so frustrating. Try Control C just before you press ‘submit’ as a safeguard. Good job on the kilo gone. Regarding the added sugar, I found it very easy to eliminate sugar in drinks by cutting down a small amount each week until I used none. That was decades ago when my grandma was diagnosed with diabetes and was controlling it with diet. Now if I accidentally mix up my drink with OH’s and get sugar, it tastes disgusting. In fact I dislike all sugary drinks (but make a concession for tonic water because gin tastes even worse without it).
GDSA or anyone who does 72 hour fasting – what time of day do you start and finish? I’m not considering it, just curious as my brother (who does 5:2) is doing 72 hour water fasting in solidarity with a close friend of his who’s recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m curious because my 5:2 / 6:1 fasts start after dinner on one day and end some time during the morning of day three. So about 36-40 hours although, of course, not fasting in the true sense of the word.
Anzac, laughing about your description of your brain. And your psychic abilities.
I’m not going to risk going back a page but I do remember reading it, just not what was said. I think Neil was there talking about his holiday and maybe LJ so hello to you both.
CalifD, are you alright? We haven’t heard from you for a while.
Day 30 NZ NFD 70.5kg🏃🏼♀️
Had a controlled day not a FD y’day but that’s OK
Lunch was provided by the gallery😀
Still got a big day ahead of us today…
Will catch up later😘
