  • Welcome to this “NURTURING MAY CHALLENGE”

May springs from the Greek goddess Maia, daughter of Atlas and mother of Hermes. She was a “nurturer” and an “earth goddess”, which certainly explains her connection with this springtime month, when flowers and crops burst forth.

It’s hard to believe that @coda started this series of monthly challenges way back in May 2016 and so many of us have had amazing support to start and continue on our 5:2 journey.

I’ll share a bit about myself in a later post and hope to have many old timers and newbies to this WOL/Challenges join us for a Nurturing May 🤗

So, here’s how this works (same as it has always been):

    1. Start your daily post with the day of the month, where you are from, and if you’re on a fast day (FD); a non-fast day (NFD) or a controlled day (CD) (e.g. for 1st of May it would go something like “Day 1 – UK – FD”).

    2. Give a quick intro about yourself in the very first post – mostly for the benefit of the newbies. A brief blurb about your journey so far and what you aim get from this way of life (WOL). Also if you wish, your starting weight and any other measurements (waist, hip, bust etc) you aim to keep track of throughout the month. You can record this on the spread sheet or if you are unable to I’m happy to fill it in for you!

    3. You can add any comments/questions/moans/whinges/triumphs… or anything you feel like you want to share with the rest of the forum. We all have good days and bad days, days we fall off the wagon and days when we hang in there for dear life………so if you want to share it – post it.

Recipes, tips, tricks and questions can also be shared – most of us are logged on at one time or another and can clarify things, offer advise, support etc when needed – this is the great thing about this international forum, there’s always someone online!!!!

Over the course of these monthly challenges, there have been small groups doing their own mini-challenges – called ‘pocket fasters’ or ‘pocketeers’ – they set a target and support each other through it. Anyone can join one of these groups or start a mini pocket list – it’s entirely optional and flexible.

5:2 basics – answers to many FAQs plus top tips:

Amazingly I’m now in my 6th year of this WOL and my personal motto of “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now” has kept me more or less within my maintenance range since getting there in December 2016 💃

Thanks @at! Looking forward to seeing you here on Sunday.

I’m back (thanks to @jaifaim)! Thank you for herding us next month @at!

I’m in, too, and determined. Thanks for hosting!

I’ll be here, continuing the quest to lose another 10-20 pounds.

I’ll do my best to contribute better than I did in April! Thanks, @at for keeping us going!

Hellooooo everyone, I’m here too… just filled in the last entries for the April spreadsheet and new entries in the NURTURING MAY spreadsheet…. thank you so much for putting the spreadsheets together… and all the forum hosts, it wouldn’t happen without you! See you all tomorrow!

    MAY SPIRITUAL MEANING
“May brings enchantment with its seasonal changes, ushering movement of the metaphysical kind. Movement in areas of expansion and spiritual growth is a time when we feel like we can levitate. It’s the magic concept of May, you don’t know if you’re going to succeed at anything until you give it a go.”

    Welcome to @jaifaim @northgeorgia @stitchincarol @songbirdme and @linda.b

@snowflake56 – special welcome back – we have been missing you 🤗 So sorry to read about your dear friend, 36 years of friendship is so special 💕 she will forever be in your heart and thoughts. Hopefully you are also now on the road to recovery from your unexpected surgery x 2 – sounds like this Nurturing May Challenge was made for you x

    Day -1 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Count me in please @at & thanks again for hosting ‘Nurturing May’.

    USA

Thank you, AT, for mentoring us through May! 😊

    Day 0

Starting the month at healthy BMI and weight if 135.5 is a huge difference from the 176 borderline obese BMI of last August. I’m kinda in transition to maintenance- my weight is slightly lower than last month.

I am finding it harder than weight loss – it is a mindset thing, without the losing weight goal, I’m floundering a bit.

But regular exercise, mindfully healthy eating, limiting processed carbs, ZBC and 5:2 are my mainstays.

I think too much, and use the forum as a sounding board – especially for health related musings.

My DH and I have our 28th anniversary at the end of the month. We currently have no plans, so I must figure out something special to end the month. Preferably not food related. 🤔 Currently stumped.

Thanks @at for hosting this month!

Day 01 – Sunday– Gold Coast Queensland Australia – NFD

What a pleasure to type that… Day 01! A new beginning, a fresh start, wipe the slate clean, a tabula rasa! Ring the bells!🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔

I absolutely think our monthly Forum challenge is an essential element to our successes. It is…. really! 🎈🎈🎈🎈
It allows us to put yesterday behind us, to re-set the new month with a new achievable (poco a poco 😊 love that!) goal rather than to be daunted by our bigger goals. I find it invigorating and affirming and so excited to be joining you with NURTURING MAY 😍😍
For the newbies, I started my mission on 1st February 2022 to lose overall 10-11 kg by Easter. (Well that goalpost has now bobbed🐇🐇🐇 along a little😣😏😣)
I’ve now lost 7.6 kg; I am following 5:2 Mondays & Thursdays FDs and am rigidly keeping to the plan (except for Easter!). My magic weapon for April was to resume exercise (early morning, before work, walking) but was often foiled by wet weather, rolled over and went back to sleep several times! I’m an avid walker, and once actually outside and on my way, love to stomp my local trekking paths.🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️

I’ve actually done the 5:2 in 2019 and successfully lost 11 kg in 11 weeks, maintained for a while and then failed to follow through with the 6:1 maintenance WOL. Silly me because 6:1 just isn’t that hard but you obviously need to stick with it. The upshot was the fat just came back…. it’s not rocket science 🚀🚀🚀 and totally my own fault.

I am also totally AF (ALCOHOL FREE) for the duration of my IF (not as difficult as I thought!); I am coeliac but that is neither here nor there for me and actually probably helps in some ways as I’m used to not having snacks etc; my reward for achieving my end goal is a new hairstyle and I’ve strictly avowed not to have a haircut until I reach my ultimate goal (hopefully in Nurturing May because the scrunchie look is not that glamorous!)
I’m newly single again and likely using these challenges as a panacea for a very rough patch in my life and to focus on the positives to move forward with my life.😍😍

Good grief Charlie Brown that was a lot! 😂😁😀

So, to all crew, let’s get to it!

And I can do ‘most anything if I only think I can

    Day 1, Germany, NFD
    Good morning everyone!
I’m a Dutchwoman living in the upper North-West of Germany, married, 65 years old, 163 cm/5’4″ tall. My weight was 56 kg/123.5lbs all my adult life until starting a new job in 2011 where my weight crept up to 72.9 kg. I read the book and joined the challenges on and off from March 2017 on. I lost 20 kg very quickly (too skinny then, I overdid it) but gained half of it back after retirement in March 2018. This morning my weight was 61.1 kg/137.4 lbs, a bit above my maintenance range of 58-60 kg/128-132 lbs. Nothing dramatic, my weight is a lesser problem than my bad eating habits at the moment. As soon as I go back to ZBC, 18:6 and stop eating too much sweets, I should be fine. I have become really lazy so from today on I’ll be doing planks, squats and my normal morning exercises again. Well, that’s the plan, let’s see how it goes.

@jaifaim, @at and @stitchincarol Thanks for your sympathy! It was a difficult time, it’s hard to see someone you’re so close to suffer. She was so full of hope and so brave. I’m really grateful for the time we had together, she was such a lovely person.

@at Thanks for adding me to the spreadsheet, being on it encourages me to do well.

@stitchincarol I’m in the upper North-west of Germany, the flooding was in the middle of Germany. It was just terrible what happened there.

@funshipfreddie Thanks for the welcome back!

@jaifaim You’re doing well, you almost reached maintenance. Perhaps we can both highlight our names on the spreadsheet next month!

    Have a nice day everyone!

Day 1 – Lake District UK – NFD

    Good morning everyone

@at – Thanks for hosting this month, one of my favourite months, spring heading towards summer. Having just said that, as you know it’s just rained over the last 16 hours, but that’s been the first measurable rainfall in our area for the last 28 days! The garden was ready 😉
Have to apologise in advance, I’m not going to be around much this month, we’re heading down country for a break, then home a few days before heading up to the Cairngorm mountains for the second half 🙂

A bit about me …. I ‘found’ this group in July 2019 and have never looked back! I’m a bloke who now in my mid 60’s had put on a lot of weight over the years, but thanks to this WOL now down to a weight that I am comfortable with and feel a lot better!
I have found the help and encouragement of the members of this group fantastic. The 5:2 WOL really does work, especially with help of my forum friends.

Currently maintaining and staying within my ‘buffer zone’ in fact dropped a pound last month, really do find it easy having done the hard yards getting to where I am now from where I was.

Hobbies, walking, brewing craft beer, baking bread, rugby union (watching these days, my playing days are long over) fishing and gardening.

    Take care all

    Day 1 – Ireland – NFD ✅ 🚫🚶🏻‍♀️

    157.3lbs

    I do love a new start 🎉
Thanks @at for hosting the May challenge!

    Last month I committed to:
    Reach 157lbs – nearly did that ✔️
    Two FDs a week – ✔️
Exercise every day for an hour or more… I did that…. Most days… 🚶🏻‍♀️
Have alcohol only when I had a real reason to celebrate , like birthdays or such and did that except for two nights.. 🚫
Reduce consumption of sugars & carbs… I did that too but that was the toughest… ✅

Easter threw me off, there were some other binges and excuses…my weight fluctuated between 162 – 159 ALL month… and I had resigned myself to knuckle down in May.. 159 was what I thought I’d be logging as starting May weight.

But here’s the thing… NEVER give in because you don’t see the changes in the day to day ⚖️ and when you are working hard towards your goal 💪… those drops are right behind you… I got the best surprise yesterday when I took final April weigh in… 157.3lbs.. 🎉

I’m so “excira and delira” (said with Dublin accent) now to push on through May to reach my maintenance. ⚖️

And no… no one noticed this amazing change last night… but I did 😊 and that is what matters!!! Guinness was had 😋🎉

Wishing everyone the very best this month. I have 155lbs and maintenance in my sights 👀 🔍 ✔️

    Day 1 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

    @linda.b – your enthusiasm is contagious! 😅 👏

@jaifaim – what a great way for you to end Amazing April?! 🏆

Well, I’m a little ticked off right now. I just successfully solved today’s Wordle; but was informed that my current streak was ‘1’?! I was so proud of my 30+ day streak. And then I realised, I forgot to do yesterday’s puzzle?! So unfair; if I had a lawyer I’d call him 🤨

About me:- David, 60. Originally from Manchester in the UK, living in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, on the east coast of South Africa. I’ve been fasting on & off since 2014.I got serious with fasting after I retired in 2018 & realised I was gaining weight & turning into a couch potato. I’ve been more or less maintaining for quite a while now, with the occasional holiday/festive season glitches. I now follow TRE, seldom eating before noon. I do mostly 5:2 & I don’t eat before 6 pm on fast days. Current BMI is 22.5, so I’m already at a healthy weight, but could do with following a healthier diet. I like sweet stuff & alcohol – too much!

    Wishing everyone a marvellous May!

    Day 1 – UK – CD

May Day is a public holiday celebrated on May 1 in many different cultures around the world. It is a day of unity, togetherness, and rebirth; a day for everyone to come together and celebrate life as we know it!

Welcome to @funshipfreddie @ccco @mariaelena @i-hate-lettuce – great to have you on board

Trying to press my RESET button this month and happy to report that I managed to complete a good CD yesterday even though it did include 2 glasses of 🥂 – Today will be another CD but no wine!! (just over 1000cals each day!)

@mariaelena – what a wonderful effort you have put in since last August to find yourself now with a healthy BMI and weight of 135.5 – Can I ask what is your target weight?
@linda.b – I do love reading your posts 😊 I totally agree that these monthly challenges are an essential element to our successes and certainly for me has motivated me to keep at maintenance
@snowflake56 – so happy to be reading your posts once more – how is you and your DH doing? is he still working part time?
@i-hate-lettuce – definitely a drizzly and much cooler day but I did go out with a couple of friends for a drizzly walk to High Sweden Bridge, just over 6km and glad to get home to some spicy sweet potato soup 🥣 for my lunch – do pop in to say hello when you can over this challenge month
@jaifaim – so satisfying to tick off all those April commitments – I have no doubt that you will achieve your aim for May – 155lbs and maintenance is in sight!
@funshipfreddie – join me in eating more healthily and cutting back on the alcohol this month – I have been struggling with that since Christmas 🫢 I want May to be the month where I regain control and aim for a steady weight without frequent yo-yoing up and down.

I don’t think anyone is fasting today but let it be a day of control and not excess!!

“If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 1 UK NFD

Hi all – I’m 60 live with DH on the south coast of England, currently around 10lbs over where I’d like to be and just don’t seem to be able to shift them ! Going to be realistic and aim for a 2lb loss this month as I have a week away in Dubrovnik I think I’ll need to apply myself 💪Looking forward to our May journey , thanks for guiding us @at 👏and welcome back @snowflake56

    Day 1 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 217 lbs. Hoping this will be the high for May!

I am a 47 y/o male in northeast Georgia who started a serious weight-loss journey at the start of the pandemic. After losing a little weight, I was worried this would play out as it had over the past ten years or so: lose ten pounds, gain twenty. So, after I bottomed out losing my ten pounds, I searched the internet for new ideas and discovered 5:2. Keeping 5:2 as my base practice with some variation over these past two years (TRE, water fasting, principles promoted by Jason Fung, etc.), I have lost around 70 lbs. In April, I did gain about 5 lbs back, but am back on track to get those numbers back down.

Because of the upward trend, my weight moved away from my goal of 206. I am going to try very hard this month to approach that goal again, as I did hit 207 in March.

    Pocket list – day 1
    @northgeorgia

    Day 1 Melb Aust NFD

Well, back in for May. I didn’t post a lot in April, but did manage to quietly lose 2.4 kg. The goal is always 4 kg, but realistically, if I lose 2 kg or more, I’m pleased.

@at, thank you for hosting us for May. It’s good to see many of the “regulars” persevering with this WOL.

About me? A 72-y-old single female, studying post-retirement, household ruled by ginger tabby Wilbur. I’ve yo-yoed with this WOL since November 2018 – loss then regain, loss then regain (I blame Covid lockdowns for the last regain!). Now the weight is on the way down again, quietly and gently, without me putting a lot of pressure on myself. It seems to be working, so I’m happy with that. I’m looking for everyone to have a successful loss this month.

    Onward and downwards!

    2nd post

@at I also decided to make a good start! Yesterday and today were CDs, tomorrow I plan to do a FD800. My last FD was in June last year so it will be a challenge. My DH is still working part time, he mostly works 6 days per month. He loves his work and while he’s at work I can do housework.

@brightonbelle Thanks! It’s good to be back. Will there be another Kate Bush “Wuthering Heights” day in Brighton this year or was it a one time event??

    Day 1 – 16:8 CD

May officially starts at a weigh in of 135.4. So April was essentially maintenance. Not going to complain about that!

@at – thank you and I wish I knew! I know I want to maintain no lower than 125 (lowest healthy BMI + 10lb) and no higher than 136 (enough lb lower than overweight BMI so that no matter what outfit I wear I will register ‘healthy’ when weighing in at Dr. Office). I’m currently at the tip top of that range and would be mentally happier if I had more leeway than currently. So I guess I’m in an undefined mid-ground.

So my current musing is what exactly is a healthy weight for me? Let alone an ideal weight. Advice on that score is all over (when one drills down into specifics of medical/nutrition advice) so at what weight do I feel best? And then there is the ever present ‘how do I look’ question. So I guess it is up to me. And right now I don’t have an answer for it. I have pulled back on weight-loss focus and switched to 5:2 800 (was doing orig 500 5:2) as a regular thing. We will see what insight May brings to the question.

I’m not going to dwell on it, I don’t need the uncertainty of it weighing on my mind. I’m just going to follow the program for May (5:2 800) and reassess for June. Overall, I think this month by month approach might work and as a bonus is nicely congruent with this forum monthly restart.

Happy 🌞day all. It was supposed to be an unpleasant weather day, but surprisingly beautiful.

    Day 1 USA (Illinois) NFD

“It’s May, it’s May, the lusty month of May…” so sang I as Guinevere (my namesake’s name) in “Camelot” wow, in 1985 at our local summer theater. I have always loved May because my birthday is tomorrow. I will be a “lusty” 74 but do feel about 50! Who says age is just a number is right. We have a local lady who will be 95 in June who has the energy and livelihood of someone 60!

My name is Gwynne, we live in the northwestern corner of Illinois that experiences all the seasons. Winter wasn’t too bad, but our spring is really delayed. Flowers and all are taking forever to bloom.

I began 5:2 in March 2016 then joined this forum with @coda in May, so I find myself in my 6th year anniversary. I lost roughly 40 pounds (going from nearly 200 – 90kg down to 160 – 72.5kg) over about 10 months, and I have pretty much maintained 160, about 26 BMI or so, but am happy enough with that to keep some wrinkles away. At my age, we worry more about that than waistline! I do my best to do Silver Sneakers 3x per week. That keeps me active at least.

@at – it is wonderful of you to lead us this month. May it indeed be very nurturing for us all.

@snowflake56 – how wonderful to have you back in the fold! So glad you’re surviving.

@linda.b – it was a WordsWithFriends friend from the Gold Coast who suggested I try 5:2 way back when. I have always have such a fondness for anything Aussie since then, but we did have a great trip to Sydney, Great Barrier Reef and NZ back in 2004.

@funshipfreddie – how sad you lost your streak! Every time I reboot my computer, I find it resets my ‘record’ on Wordle. Oh well, we know how well we are doing!

    Onward and downward.

Day 02 – Monday– Gold Coast Queensland Australia – FUN DAY (FD)

Great to see many of the crew back on board and hear about your successes in April….. so many did so well🏆🥇 and even if the dial went up and down a little for a few it is not defeat, just preparation for our NURTURING MAY re-set! We can do this!🔔🔔🔔

My first FUN DAY (FD) for NURTURING MAY. Won’t be too hard as am working all day; it’s a public holiday today so a quiet day to get into the bookwork (finish????) and have the broccoli and mushrooms prepped! FD 500 for me🥦🥦🍄🍄🍄🥑🥑🥑🍅🍅🍅🍆🍆🍆🥬🥬🥬🥕🥕🥕

@songbirdme just looked up WordsWithFriends….. looks interesting, do you still do it? Great you visited us downunder in 2004 and you’re welcome back as the borders are finally open again… at last!
@jaifaim you are such a star⭐⭐⭐…. I’m “excira and delira” for you and striving to join you in maintenance! Hope I can emulate your success!

@at hope your CD day goes well today sans the tipple. One thing I do is fill my wine glass to the top with ice and water with a twist of lime….. was strange at first but now seems 2nd nature. Funny thing is when I’m out no-one ever notices…. they all think I’m holding a glass of vino!🥂🍷

So very interesting to read everyone’s first of the month introductions, you are such an eclectic coterie and inspire me every single day!

Day 1 Ohio, US — NFD

The day has been extremely busy, so I’m fairly tired now. Stayed pretty much on plan with eating today and managed to get my 50 minutes of exercise in. The beautiful spring weather helped with getting me out for a walk this evening, even though I was tired.

Brief history: I participated in this forum for a few years and then went away the summer of 2020. In March of this year I returned and have been enjoying the great community here. I’m starting out this month at 182+ (82.5+ kg) lbs and my goal is to get to below 180 lbs (81.6 kg), so about 1 kg. I would be happy with losing more, but this seems like a reasonable minimum.

@at Thanks for hosting this month. I really liked the background you supplied about Maia.

Day 2 – Lake district UK – FD

    Good morning everyone

Very quick fly by this morning, just to put myself on the Monday morning pocket list!
Will call in sometime over the next week if I’ve chance, but will still look to try and keep my 2 FD’s as Monday and Thursday 😉

    Take care all

    Day 2, Germany, FD800

    Good morning!

Not a good start with this post, I lost it after I edited it. I have to remember I write it in libre office first.

First FD since June last year. I’m going for a FD800, ZBC and 18:6 today. By noon it will be berries with yogurt, at 4:00 pm we’re having asparagus with a small potato, butter and for me a hard boiled egg, my DH will have ham with his asparagus.

@songbirdme Thanks! I have to go back to healthy eating again, when I’m posting here, I mostly pay more attention to what I eat.

@jaifaim I remember @ciren2, I even think about her when we’re having heavy rain overhere. I’m also missing (among others) @daffodil2010, @stitchincarol, @flourbaby, @michelinme, @emma-taylor, @basyjames, @lilymartin and @missybear. When I started 5:2 in 2017 it was such a large group, now there are only 20 of us on the spreadsheet.

Good morning all! I’m having a very busy weekend and am getting myself together for a good cycle with friends and then meeting up with friends later for coffee and a walk…

Hope you all had a good First day 🌅 and will catch up later or tomorrow!
    Welcome back @betsylee 👏
@snowflake56 I’m sure you will see many of the people you listed in May… they have been here or have been ducking in/out. @emma-taylor and @missybear may be on a break and @basyjames was here until very recently so hopefully all is well with her… great to read your post this morning… you have this 💪.

    Day 2 UK NFD

Bank holiday here so changing my usual Monday FD to tomorrow

@snowflake56 I’d not heard about Wuthering Heights day but after 2 quiet years the Brighton Festival is gearing up and look what’s on

    https://www.visitbrighton.com/whats-on/brighton-festival-wuthering-heights-p1991801

    Have a good one all

    Day 2 – USA/GA – ZBC NFD

Weigh-in: 212 lbs. Doing ZBC and possibly OMAD for today (not packing a lunch). Unlike last week, if I do OMAD, I can’t let my cravings release the hunger dragon and get out of control.

I have to really be careful on the feeding days. I have noticed that total NFD weekend gain is about 4-5 lbs if I follow Fung principles as opposed to about 7 lbs if I snack and eat whatever constantly. Anyway, got to remain steadfast and goal oriented. Time to break the plateau.

    Day 2 – UK – FD800

“The world’s favorite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May.”

Welcome to the Nurturing May 2022 Challenge @brightonbelle @betsylee @matpi – lovely to have you joining 🤗 So far we are a small but enthusiastic group of 16 – hopefully more of our regulars will join over the next week

@brightonbelle – a 2lb loss for the month is definitely realistic
@northgeorgia – good to hear that you are on track to get those numbers back down this month
@betsylee – good job on losing those 2.4kg in April and without putting a lot of pressure on yourself
@snowflake56 – good to hear that your DH is still enjoying his work and I’m joining you on your FD800 today
@mariaelena – May will be the month for you to find your comfort zone – your plan to follow the program for May (5:2 800) and reassess for June sounds eminently sensible
@songbirdme – 🎶 Happy Birthday to You! 🎶 🎈🥳🎁🥂 You are our poster girl for this WOL
@linda.b – I do like your FUN DAY (FD)
@matpi – your plan for a 1kg loss for this challenge is eminently achievable
@i-hate-lettuce – I saw this quote for May and it made me think of you “I’m only wishing to go a-fishing; For this the month of May was made.” Henry Van Dyke
@jaifaim – sounds like a lovely day – cycle ride, coffee and a walk with friends – perfect!
    @funshipfreddie – great quote for a FD
@rosies – I saw your name added to the end of the our spreadsheet – please post if you feel able to and tell us a bit about yourself 🤗

Great to see a stalwart group of fasters on this Monday Bank Holiday – TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!

    Day 2 – Rural Nebraska, USA – Don’t know…

    @snowflake56 I’m here, I’m here! Just absent yesterday. 😍

@songbirdme Happy, happy birthday, dear one!! We celebrated my great-nephew’s birthday yesterday with a brunch after church of Mimosas and Eggs Benedict, and then a dinner of Sous Vide Flank Steak in soy and ginger, Brussels Sprouts with bacon, and smashed red potatoes with garlic, dill and butter…lots of garlic, lots of butter, and yummy. Cake was a white layer cake with a whipped white chocolate ganache. We had Margaritas. We had wine. Is it any wonder my weight is up??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 May your eating today be special and lovely but nearly so out of control, LOL!

About me: I stayed around 132/60 for years then several major moves and changes of lifestyle left me weighing 166/75. I lost the weight in 2014-15 (I’m never fast at losing) and then gained it back. Starting 2-26-20, I dropped 25 to around 140/63.5. The problem is that I’ve shrunk from 5’4″/162.5cm to 5’2.5″/159, so to be the same BMI as way back when, I’d need to be around 10lbs lighter. Add in my age of 63, and I–like @mariaelena –don’t know what’s my best weight. Unlike @mariaelena, however, I’m trending up at the moment and no where near where I’d like to be.

So here’s my May commitment: this morning’s weight is 148.0/67. This is after about ten days of eating how I chose, with zero restraint required–although requested–and zero guilt.

I do feel regret, however; thanks @funshipfreddie for reposting that great quote.

My plan for May is to continue with my WF on Tuesday and Thursday; those are the days I drive to Omaha to teach piano and it’s become simple for me to do, and I love how I feel after a WFD. The rest of the week? That’s the challenge as I seem to have zero restraint in me for those days. I’m done, however, with 148 lbs: BLECH!! So the first order of business is to behave with enough restraint to get back closer to 140, which honestly won’t take much; it’s breaking the 140 barrier than has been challenging me.

The thing I must acknowledge…and then ACT on…is that when I exercise daily, my mindset is such that I do a better job of eating with restraint, and since I also must acknowledge that exercise is necessary for the well-being of my body…I must begin exercising again. So, maybe I’ll walk with Leslie, or maybe I’ll do yoga with Adrienne, or maybe…don’t know yet, but I’ll do something today and report in tomorrow.

I apologize for how long this post is, but I had lots to think through and did it with my fingers on the keyboard. And I’ve decided: today will be 800-1000 calories, whatever that is considered to be. CD, perhaps? Actually, what IS that called??

    My personal themes for May:

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” ~ Jim Rohn

“You are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way.”

    2nd post

    @songbirdme Happy Birthday!

@jaifaim I’m here for over 5 years but still haven’t learnt how to stay away from sweets. I think I’ll never learn, ice cream and sweets are my favourite things to eat, unfortunately. They are my ubsolute downfall. When I start, I don’t stop until everything is gone. It’s better to have no sweets in the house. We still have one Mars bar, one Snickers bar and 150 g of hazelnut chocolate in the house but I’m determined not to eat it and put it in my DH work bag.

@at Do we have the same plan? Good to have you with me on this FD800.

@stitchincarol I’m glad you’re here, I love to read your long posts!

    Day 2 – FD 800

Interesting weather – slow moving and LOUD all night. The cats were quite upset all night, and I admit to being disturbed by the booms and crackling so sleep was difficult.

Lots of projects today. Another electronic hand me down device (a vinyl record player that makes mp3 files of the album) is being put to good use! A project probably never to be finished as I have a couple of hundred family albums and the file making is in real time, but I’m going to get a start! Also got a ton of photographs from family that need to be scanned. And the new bed needs organized storage for underneath! LOL

@mati was it you who said your local goodwill doesn’t accept electronics? Mine does, and has a good turnaround on them. I picked up a vintage Sony CD player there for my sister (who has quite a large CD collection) and an old iPod stereo/lamp for an old iPod hand me down we have among several kitchen gadgets there over the years. Last year I finally donated old curling irons and radio alarm clocks that were just sitting around. They allow a refund if within 3 days one finds the electronic item is faulty.

Well, I’m late getting started today as the day started with a phone call with papa, always a way to brighten my day.

    Be well all!

Good day at Silver Sneakers this morning, then a light lunch.

Thanks for the kind birthday greetings, @funshipfreddie @at @stitchincarol @snowflake56 and anyone else I may have missed. It’s dinner out tonight with DH, lots of flowers have arrived, and even a box of chocolates! Who can watch what they eat on their birthday, right?!

Hope to jump in more tomorrow. Off to town shortly for a little shopping then dinner.

    USA. Day 2. FD

Final report of the day! My FD went well! I am exhausted from gardening all day and, hopefully, burned off some calories. I desperately need to sleep! Hope you all had a great day!

    Happy birthday @songbirdme 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈

    Day 2 Melb. Australia

Weighed in Yesterday FD at 87.6 this morning 86.3 so very pleased just need to keep this going. I love the support in this forums.
Have a lovey Tuesday all. Rosie👌

Day 2 Ohio, US — MFD

Fasting went well today and I got the usual 50 minutes of exercise in.

@songbirdme Happy Birthday!! Hope your celebration is a great one!

@mariaelena Without being able to use Goodwill, I really don’t know where to donate gently used electronics in this neck of the woods. I have a small flat TV screen and a 5-speaker surround sound system that were great when I had a house, but now they are not needed in my townhouse. Someone told me that if I just leave them on my curb, someone will pick them up. I guess that’s a form of donation. When we get a string of dry days, I might give that a try.

@snowflake56 When it comes to sweets, I’m in the same boat. It’s too bad one can’t put on a headset and go into virtual reality and eat virtual cake and only put on virtual weight!

@stitchincarol Great themes for the month. I especially like “You are far too smart …”

Day 03 – Tuesday– Gold Coast Queensland Australia – (NFD)

Well helloooooo from downunder! 😀😊😀 🦘🦘🦘

Accountability for my FUN DAY (FD) yesterday …… I held the course and very happy with that 😃😄 …. love the veg🥦🥑🍄🥕 …. not happy that didn’t finish the books though…😫😜… It was a public holiday here and I was sabotaged at the end of the day by the bank when I tried to download and print the relevant statements….. they were “unavailable at this time and to try again later”.👿👿👿 I am so going back to mailed paper statements! Everything was there online this morning but that means I’ll have to work late again tonight. Not happy!

Enough of that….. hey, I’m very happy to see we are growing our Aussie contingent… hi to @rosie 👋👋 the bus has plenty of room 🚌🚌

    Enjoy your Tuesday everyone.

    Day 3, Germany, NFD

    Good morning!

I’d like to do another FD800 but this afternoon we’re visiting friends and there will be cheese, olive bread, olives, dried tomatoes, wine and gin. The husband and I are trying out different kinds of gin, it’s fun. But it will be a ZBC and 18:6 day so it would be possible to stay under my TDEE.

@matpi You are so right! It’s such a pity this sugary stuff is so tempting and delicious. Do you still have sweets in the house?

    @rosie Welcome!

    Have a nice day everyone!

Had Covid a few weeks ago , lost appetite and sense of taste so really helped with 5:2 .
Didn’t realise the side effects of Covid could be so debilitating.
Could do without the tiredness and loss of energy. Waiting for taste buds to completely recover, otherwise it wasn’t so bad.
Just taking me a while to get back into 5:2 on a regular basis but planning to in Nurturing May.
    Thanks @at for hosting again.

    2nd post

@brightonbelle What a beautiful theatre you have! Are going to see the musical “Wuthering Heights”?

@lilymartin Hi, I’m sorry you had so many problems with Covid. Some have no problems at all, some get realy sick. I hope you will be well soon.

Just back from the market, bought too much cheese and other delicious things. We’ll see how it goes today, the good things is that I didn’t taste anything. A good start.

    Day 3 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Easy FD yesterday; checking in for accountability.

@rosie-sullivan1 – welcome! A great start to the month for you 🎯

Have a good day everyone ⛅️

    Day 3 – Ireland – FD ✅ 🚫🚶🏻‍♀️

Hi all! I hope you all had a great weekend! I had a lovely busy weekend and settling in now to a short working week.

I’m not going to weigh today as I’m sure I’m up again (lots of fun, exercise and good food) I will weigh on Friday morning after I’ve had a chance to get back on track.
@at everything does seem possible 💪. Thank you!
Great to see everyone here for May 🎉
@snowflake56 you wouldn’t believe the délices I had yesterday and just couldn’t say no… just took little tastes of everything but there was so much – yum! Just yum 😋

@mariaelena what interesting hand me downs you describe! I have so many electronic bits and bobs which I must get rid of but have to take them to a specific place so must get organised.

Hi @rosie I hope you enjoy the challenge! You will find kindness and support here so great to have you here!

Sorry to hear you are still under the weather @lilymartin… hopefully you’ll begin to improve soon.

    Have a good day all!!

    Day 3 – UK – FD800

Hello all! It’s my first post on this month’s thread, so a quick intro to reset the month: I’m in my mid-30s, F, from London. I used the 5:2 WOE to drop a dress size to get into my wedding dress a few years back. The weight fell off me back then and I also felt great in myself too. Big indulgences then followed and I gained it all back plus a bit more. I’m just within a ‘normal BMI’ but my old set point without having to think about it was a few points below where I am now, so the aim is to get myself back down to that. However, I am mindful of the fact I had good results last time from not fixating on my weight and instead feeling all the health benefits of fasting.

After a few false starts last year, I grabbed the bull by its horns at the end of Jan this year and did a 3 week ‘reset’ (all bar the odd day here & there) where I followed the F800 plan. This was aided greatly by Mr babs_b also joining in with me…. he saw some phenomenal results in that time, losing over a stone!

March was filled with birthday celebrations and then us both having Covid, so 5:2 / F800 went out the window. April was crazy with work where we were both catching up with projects after having to take time out with COVID….. So here I am at the start of May ready to press reset again!

@at I love the name of this month’s challenge!

Today is a well-needed FD800. I made myself a tuna salad for lunch, which I devoured: tuna, rocket leaves, cucumber, spring onion, celery, avocado & fresh basil, dressed with some extra virgin olive oil & raw cider vinegar. Dinner this evening is from the Easy Fast 800 recipe book: Pork & cider with some mashed swede. My stomach was rumbling on a video call earlier on so I guzzled lots of water to try and damped some of the noise!! This is definitely a sign I’ve overdone it with the carbs and refined sugary stuff this weekend.

Mr babs_b seems to be back on board again…. he’s had some soup for lunch and will be sharing the dinner this evening, so it’s good to get back on track together. 💪(there’s definitely strength in numbers!)

    Have a brilliant day all!
