  • Hi,

I need some advice as to whether this would work for weight loss, and if so would it be safe.

The way I could cope with fasting is with a varient of the 16:8 method. But, instead of having an 8 hour window, it would just be a 1 hour windows. Where I have one meal a day, at around 7-8pm, where I would eat just one meal of around 1000 calories, with a good balance of protein/carbs etc in the meal.

I have a TDEE of around 2300kcal, so that would be a weekly calorie deficit of 9100kcal. I was hoping to lose around 2.5-3 pounds a week.

As a student at uni, I find my time lacking for much exercise, but during the summer I intend to do at least an hours fast pace walk a day. I intend too anyway.

    Hi Chris,

Any variant of the plan that works for you is fine, but….we are in this for the long run. Could you really sustain yourself on only one (very large) meal a day in the evening ?. Mind you, thinking about it that’s probably the normal eating habits of a student is’nt it ! Certainly was when I was at Uni.
If I was you, I would simply follow the tried and trusted 5/2 or 4/3 and keep at it. Once you have been on this fast plan for a few weeks, it will just all make sense you. Slow and gradual weight loss means that you will keep it off, period.
It is very tempting to starve yourself thinking that the weight will drop off, but unfortunately that does not happen (for many reasons).
I hope I have given some decent advice ?

Regards, from an old ex-Uni student….

    hi

Im doing a sort of 20:4, but frequently have just one meal of less than a thousand calories, and 375 on fast days. Works for me.

Will say though that I dont do it all the time, and would advise go with the flow, you havn’t said what your trying to lose, but I give myself small targets, even though my total is quite big.

A lot of folk on these threads say its a marathon, not a sprint, sprinting is absolutely fine, but no one done a long distance at a sprint.

Find out what works, and be ready to change, Ive been doing this for nearly six months, it works! Good luck!

    Thanks for the quick replies,

Im trying to get back down to around 11.75-12st .

I have tried both the 5:2 and 4:3 but cant seem to stick to them and have found the plane outlined above extremely easy to follow.

I understand that its in it for the long haul, but once I get to my target weight then I could always just increase the window a little bit and increase the calories slightly.

Hi Chris, whats your starting weight, if you don’t mind that I ask?

You might find you say things on the forums you wouldn’t tell a soul! lol!

I started at 14st 5lbs – boy was that a shock, but heading towads 40lb loss. Still pinching myself, but Im quite short so a way to go.

Ive started exercising and I now walk a great deal, and Im the original couch potato!

Sorry i forgot as I put it in my profile, im around 15st 7lbs, so quite a bit to lose!

So not too far from me! Can I suggest you look for buttonboots thread? Awesome lady, still on her way down, but so inspirational! And there are a few threads with folk on the long road, think you will find 2-3 lbs a week fine, once you get going, but a lb a week is a packet of butter!!!! Still a huge loss, and some weeks just a little or even nothing will happen, that fat will prove to be sticky and hanging on for dear life! Other weeks it will slide off. Measure everything too, including upper arms, neck and calves, sometimes the tape measure moves when the scales dont.

It seems the way I am doing it is working. I lost 3.5 pounds the first week, and am on course to lose something similar this week. Half a stone in two weeks is not bad! I know it will more than likely not continue at this rate but its a good start.

I understand its a long term, lifestyle change, I just think that once I get to my target weight I can continue with the style but just up the amount of calories slightly to get my TWEE balanced with my weekly calorie intake.
