  • G’day Smiffy
At least you didn’t gain. Give yourself some slack.
I figure my skin thinks I’m still as tall as I was at 20 πŸ˜‰ P

Gee thanks Ply. The old man lost 30kg, but mine was a greater proportion of bodyweight (he did the maths πŸ˜‰ )
The best thing is that we have both kept it off for 6 months and he is off all diabetes drugs!! This ‘diet’ is totally life changing. P

Hey Aussie oma I can create a group but I need to invite individuals in the first instance ( I think) which is a bit difficult given we use pseudonyms.
Today was a bit of a challenge but I will keep on keeping on!

Well Hello Everyone! As always this has been a busy wee forum in my absence! I so wish I could participate more but I’m afraid at the moment time does not allow.
Lots of inspiration as always – the positive message is here – stick with this WOE and you will see results. I got back on the wagon and stood on the scales earlier this week with a lot of trepidation following my holiday…… drum roll… another 4lbs off! I think I might be a little hypercritical of myself at the moment I don’t think on reflection I ate enough on hol to gain weight and getting into the 5.2 as soon as got back allowed the weight loss to continue. My total now is 22lb in 12 wks not quite the 2lb a week I’m striving for but I’m still quite chuffed. Wee Mam, Jojo, Amazon,Hermaj, Smithy,Ply, Purple,Samm, RT et al I thank you for your example and great information πŸ˜†
I’m so delighted that some of you will meet up next month – this has the makings of a screenplay. I would love to see this movie! A group of friends meet on β€˜tinternet’ supporting each other through cyberspace. We could get the back story of each, wee mam with her lovely family, Hermaj with her martial arts expert husband and international friends, Jojo and her bowling club spats – the list goes on. So much material, we would be spoiled for choice! Then we have the York weekend, everyone meeting with their red scarf in the train station perhaps. There would have to be a dramatic event, followed by a happy conclusion – there you have it – the classic feel good movie! Please indulge me in my daydreaming and pick an actor to play your part in this blockbuster πŸ˜†
(I know you won’t manage to York WeeMam but if there’s a Scottish convention next year count me in I live just down the road in Linlithgow).
The Aussie content is interesting to me too – we are visiting Melbourne, Sydney and Perth in January. Our younger daughter is in Perth and has been warning us re the likely temps and sun ferocity – factor 50 is required I believe. We will try not to be β€˜Brits abroad’ – my husband likes to wear quite tight swim shorts –not quite speedos (budgie smugglers) but we call them β€˜Burts’ as the resemble Burt Lancasters swimwear in his famous rolling around in the surf scene (!!!!)
Sorry if I haven’t mentioned you by name I’ve enjoyed everyones input. Best wishes to all.

    Hi KiwiWiwi,

No, we don’t do wapwaps here? πŸ™‚ I would probably say ‘out in the boonies’ but I believe that’s American. Probably many Brits would say ‘in the back of beyond’, or maybe ‘out in the sticks’. Suggestions on a postcard please. πŸ˜‰

We read Travels With a Donkey at school and I think it was one of an accumulation of things French that turned me into a lifelong Francophile. Two memories of la France profonde from one Christmas trip 15+ years ago:

driving on a cold grey winter’s afternoon across the garrigue in Herault, a landscape that probably hasn’t changed since the Middle Ages, with Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble’s Officium – also quite medieval – on the car stereo.

managing to cook a Christmas Eve dinner in a cubby-hole under the stairs of the little rented house built into the ramparts surrounding the village of Laroque.

    good luck tartan lass

Congrats on the loss, TartanLass! Your movie trailer made me smile!
@PVE, your hubby getting off the meds is truly amazing. Michael should do his next show about the two of you!

    Good morning fast trackers,
Well this is such a busy thread these days, I think I may need more time allocated to read it. It’s great though, so much success, wel done all( sorry very lazy to mention everyone by name).
I am having a quiet day today, just yoga and bowls, plus dog walk of course. I need to save some energy for a game of cards or two tonight. I love a game of crib, reminds me of my youth, playing with my Dad( losing of course). He had a great memory and used it very effectively.
Ok – so I am officially related to everyone on the world- teehee, it just never stops, it’s like the Big Bang, continuously expanding. I think the problem is that I have bitten off more than I can chew with doing 4 family lines, exhausting.
Scales still holding but I suspect that is because I ate two bowls of pasta(with bread), just plain greedy. So skipping lunch today.
    Have a great day all.

P.s. I will discuss York when I have my itinary from the coach company, but I am sure we can work something out. Really looking forward to it.

I will be in New Zealand next August guys, my daughter is moving to Wellington, can’t wait to see it.

Hi Smiffy, lizzie, jojo and other Yorkies,

For a starter, are there any other lovely ladies we know (cathyork perhaps, even though you don’t live in the city), on this or other threads, who would like to join the party?

I’m going to get my travel and accommodation arrangements done today and I’ll keep you posted. Tentatively, I’ll probably be arriving at 13.13 on the train with the cheapo fare. If the cheapo fares have run out I might be a tad earlier. I’d love to join you all for lunch if your tums can wait that long.

    It’s gonna be fun!

    Hi JoJo
Wellington eh – my hometown! It’s a very nice city but a bit shaky sometimes.

Wellington in August can be nice or quite the opposite. There is nothing between the city and the Antarctic!
What is your daughter doing there?
We have an empty flat which we keep for ourselves. Sometimes people stay in it.
If you need accommodation, it’s quite possibly empty in the winter.

    Hello Fasttrackers
If you watched the programme Trust Me with MM. Here is a link to a very scholarly article about changing Glycaemic Indexes of Carbs using different production and cooking methods.
I must say that this WOL is making me interested in the different aspects of nutrition.

    KiwiWiwi

    Hi Hermaj
The postcard is easy. It’s the address which will perplex Royal mail.
    Her Maj
    Not Buckingham Palace.
    Angleterre.

    KiwiWiwi

    Hi Tangatatiwi,
My daughter will be teaching in a Montessori School. She has friends there too. She has already lived there for two years, absolutely loved it.

Definately would take you up on flat, my other offer was a couch for the month. Do you rent it out, a month would be amazing. Is it on a web site?

What a great thread this is connecting people. If you are in the UK I have a spare room, beautiful area but not exactly central, 2 hours to London. Mind you you probably call that spitting distance.

    Love Jojo xx

We might have to swap Jojo. My daughter will be living in the UK next year. P

Tartanlass…there is a great toilet in the shops at Linlithgow! We missed out on seeing the castle as I was desperate for a loo πŸ˜‰
Glad your hubby doesn’t wear budgie smugglers…our PM has turned everyone off them!
You are welcome to nominate when you will be on the east coast. At least Bay and I could meet you.(right Bay?) You can reciprocate when I’m over your way next year. Night all….P

Sure thing, Purple. Tartan lass, We could all meet up in Sydney or on the Coast. Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚
    Bedtime now.

Tartanlass It would be great to meet you and look forward to it next year :).

I am having a real lazy day today . Only doing some cooking . have the day off tomorrow to as My uncle and cousin are coming from Aberdeen to visit Dad . I hope they manage to get him up.
Did I tell you all about my Dad being 96 and the Alzheimers ? We have to watch him now as he is picking small things up in the shops . We usually have Ross at the back of him , OH beside him and me in front ( eyes in the back of the head lol ).

Last week we were in Aldi and OH saw Dad put a pear in his pocket . We just said “if you want to put that back we will put a bag of pears in the shopping trolly . Bless him as when we get to the check out he doesn’t remember anything about them and says HE DIDN’T want pears lol . Bless him he is brilliant and just so adorable .
OH is feeling a lot better today but I am so disappointed that the rough sexy voice has gone πŸ™‚ .

Have a great day everyone BUT be good πŸ™‚

    Wee xx

I would love to join you Down Under but for the moment it’s too many pennies πŸ™ . Who knows? Maybe one day…

Yorkies, quick message. Train booked, arriving Saturday 29th at 1.13. Back to London on Sunday on the 19.52. Awaiting confirmation from Airbnb host.

Update for fellow Yorkies. Accommodation confirmed. I’m on my way…

    Tangatawiwi,
Flat swap, sounds like a plan. Honestly why can’t our daughters move somewhere a little closer.

Now I think that this film could have a sub plot of me falling in love with George Clooney who I meet in the restaurant whilst waiting anxiously for my cyber buddies. It would of course end with us arranging to meet that night at the London Eye. Sadly on my way there I get hit by a double decker bus. Sound familiar ?

Dawn French(newly slim) from giving up sugar would be happy to play my part, me thinks. SAMM, how about being the London Cabbie that drives me to my assignation. Ply I don’t think this film would be complete without you. Fancy being George’s new wife who mends his broken heart and goes on to have a happy fulfilled life with 2 kids and several dogs in a lovely beach house.

Haha, Jojo! I would play the heck out of that role!!

Jojo don’t you be so pushy lol . I asked George to meet me many years ago . He just hasn’t had the time to travel to Scotland (so he says) and I believe him …I DO!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    Wee xx

    Hi Smiffy
Meeting at the station sounds good. I haven’t stayed in a youth hostel for 25 years. It’ll be an adventure if nothing else:) I hope the FB page gets up and running so we can exchange some contact details…

Tartan lass: Angela Pleasence to play my part. Someone told me I looked a bit like her about 40 years ago!!! Some of the parts she’s played over the years are pretty scary looking so choose a nice one if you look on line, please! There are some mad looking characters there and Smiffy will be too frightened to meet me if she sees them!

    Lizzypb

    Hi Yorkies

Does anyone have their email address on their profile? Would it be foolish to do that? Have you had spam? We could contact each other if one of us did it. I’d be willing to put one of mine on (I have one I never use) if all the Yorkies would contact me promptly. Then I could remove it and round robin everyone so we’d all be in touch. Any thoughts?

    Lizzypb

    Afternoon all.

I went out at 10.30 this morning for coffee and cake and didn’t get home until 3pm! We did lot of gossiping πŸ™‚
As I’m trying to keep it low carb I chose an affair made mainly of chocolate mousse and whipped cream, with two tiny slithers of sponge cake holding it all together πŸ˜†
I limited the damage by walking home through the park. It is so mild here today that if there weren’t fallen leaves everywhere one could be forgiven for thinking it is still summer.

    Hi everyone,

Been following the thread this week but had hardly any time to post! Your York trip sounds fab and I would have loved to come but I am going to be in Berlin at the Xmas markets with my husband & parents that weekend.

I have had weekend breaks in York though – last year and the year before and it is lovely! Last year I think we wen the first weekend of December and there are lots of stalls, but the shops and streets also look beautiful and there’s a great atmosphere. If you like beer there’s a marvellous (and weird) pub called House of the Trembling Madness I can recommend on Stonegate – great fun and the food & drinks are good. It can get extremely full though – although if you wait a while you can usually get a seat. There are all the usual chain places but some lovely quirky ones too – we also liked the Tapas Bar on Goodramgate (they have opened a second one now too) and the Italian deli/restaurant nearby. I’m very jealous of you but hope you all have a fab time!

Just realised that all my recommendations concern eating and drinking….hmm that tells me something! Well for a bit of Culture I can recommend the Castle Museum too.

    Cath xx

Thanks PVE – but ‘slack’ is definitely the word! I’m having a good day today, well under my TDEE, so will hopefully see some positive results soon. As you mentioned to Ply, this WOL has real health benefits (great for your husband) and the weight loss is really just a bonus, though nonetheless important. My OH has been doing this with me, has also lost 2 stone and his (very high) blood pressure has dropped dramatically.

Tartan lass – how nice to see you back. I agree ‘our story’ would make a great film. I would have jilted George at the alter some time ago, and run off with a rather younger Sean Connery, so you’re all welcome to fight over him! Lizzie – I really rated Angela Pleasance as an actress, so should have no trouble recognising you. I’ve been told I look like Paula Wilcox, so she can play me, though 30 years ago in a drunken stupor one man said I looked like Wonderwoman! Sadly that’s not the case!

Yorkies – great that you’re sorted Hermaj. Lizzie, I think that is a good idea if you don’t mind. If you gave us a short window to contact you, it would help a lot to be able to email each other.

Cathyork what a pity you can’t join us, though Berlin sounds great. Thanks very much for the recommendations re hostelries. OH and I also went to a lovely little Italian place when we visited a couple of years ago, so I’m sure we will be spoilt for choice!

    Smiffy x

    Hi cathyork,

I love German Christmas markets and I’m sure the one in Berlin – where we were back in the summer – will be super-special. We’ll be getting something similar in Nancy, which is close to the Franco-German border.

BTW, there’s nowt wrong with knowing about places to eat and drink. In fact, you advice would be hugely appreciated.

    Hi Kiwiwi,

Maybe it should go something like this:

    Her Maj
No, not her at Buckingham Palace,
The small badly-behaved one old enough to know better in Nawf London,
    Angleterre.

Lizzie, if you are going to put one of your email addresses on site, would it be an idea for those of us who can’t make York, but would like to join in next time to respond too? It would make organising any subsequent get togethers easier.

Ok so far we have sugar free Dawn French, Angela Pleasence (had to look her up) and Paula Wilcox. Gorgeous George for some love interest. Jojo it’s very noble of you to literally throw yourself under the bus to allow your freind Ply to live happily ever after with him lol.
Smiffy I’m sorry I misspelled your name.
PVE I’m sorry your time was short in Linlithgow but I’m glad your needs were met! The Palace and loch are well worth a visit, we have many beautiful local walks. You and Bay sound so great fun I’d love to meet but our time is very limited (only a weekend in Sydney). Off out for dinner with OH πŸ˜†

Hi Wiwi, isn’t that interesting that NZ says “wap waps”, and we say Woop Woop. I’m guessing it’s derivation may be Colonial English from India.

Hope Yorkies all have lots of fun πŸ˜† Will be thinking if you. Lovely warm sunny day here.

Hi Tartan Lass, maybe another time ?

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    Hi Jojo

Wellington is very beautiful but so cold in August. The winds come from Antarctica, as Wiwi says.
Wellington has lots of galleries and the wonderful Te Papa museum, and good coffee places. Your daughter will love showing you around.

You can walk everywhere in Wellington, from the harbour to the botanical gardens, and up on Mt Victoria and out to the Kemel Ataturk memorial.

You can see that I absolutely loved it when we lived there.
    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    Good morning fellow fasters πŸ˜€

Another lovely WARM day here in SA, getting to around 32 today. Today I’m working at our dog club (German Shepherd Dog Club of SA) as there is a Members Comp (dog show) on today and each dog over 12 months of age is critiqued by the judge and I do the steno’ing for the judge during this time.

After the show has finished we’re coming home, I’m changing clothes and then I’m out to a Charity Event for the Gawler Hospital Angel Wings (for still born babies and their families) where they’re raising money to support this function. I’m also working there at a stall for my business/craft of Stampin’ Up. This is being held at the Gawler Racecourse.

So as you will appreciate (I hope) I won’t be online after this today πŸ˜†

Nicky just for info if you use <CTRL P> this is for Print hence why they used another letter between the copy <CTRL C> and cut <CTRL X> keys this way they’re all together πŸ™‚ hope that makes sense πŸ™‚

Hi Ahmedmilton welcome to this thread, there’s lots of support here and lots of info and tips on how we’re all working our way through this way of life (WOL).

Have to run as need to go get ready for the day … see you all tomozz πŸ˜€

Thanks also to RT and everyone else for their encouragement of me and my results/goals πŸ˜€

    Hi everyone,

Excellent idea, lizzie, Amazon, Smiffy etc.

I’ve just tacked my email address on to the end of my profile. Not unduly worried about spam. From your own address you can tell them where to go without offending anyone but the spammer.

Does anyone know where Cheeseplease has got to? I have a feeling she’s holidaying somewhere signal-free. I also have a feeling she might like to join the Yorkies.

Re casting for the Yorkie movie. The wonderful Judi Dench would be perfect as Hermaj. One proviso, she doesn’t portray me as the evil old bat in Notes on a Scandal (it was actually a brilliant performance). It’s a tribute to her that she isn’t afraid to look awful and behave abominably for the sake of art. BTW the lovely Judi just happens to be a native Yorkie.

Amazon, as I’ve already told our friends north of the border I have to spend a few days in Glasgow in spring or early summer next year. jojo, am I right in thinking you also fancy a trip up there? I should almost certainly be able to make my plans fit in with a 5:2 gathering.

P.S. as those going to York have decided to call ourself Yorkies, those who make it to Glasgow will have to call themselves Weegies. Is that correct, wee/Tartan Lass?

    Hi Amazon and Yorkies

If hermaj can be brave then I can too. It’s about to go on my profile and I’ll email hermaj now too!

    lizzypb

Hermaj and Lizzie – many thanks, have emailed you both.

It would be lovely if Cheese was around and could join us.

What a great cast we’re collecting for our film!

    x

Hermaj (Dame Judi) you are correct Weegie is the appropriate term. If you would like to prepare for the linguistic challenges may I suggest Stanley Baxter’s ‘ Parliamo Glasgow ‘ πŸ˜†

Attention for the Casting Manager a Tartan Lass
could I put forward 6 actors and their films that best capture my credentials I submit for your consideration in the said up coming (oh is this a mini series or feature film?)
Brad Pitt (same age as me)the mexican
Johnny Depp (same age as me) chocolat
    Jason Strattum transporter
    Matt Damon the bourne identity
    Tom Criuse mission impossible
    Jeff Bridges the big lebowski
Have Fun In The Sun the South Aussies
    and welcome emel
    Peace
    RT

Herm I have just sent you e-mail πŸ™‚

I know I am not going to York . But I didn’t want to loose out on the Mail πŸ™‚

    Wee xx

LOL Tartan Lass do you think they will understand any of it πŸ™‚

    Ur yi dancin?
    Ur yi askin? lol xx

    Wee xx

Wee mam -probably not! Just read this -http://www.scotsman.com/news/scotland/top-stories/you-parliamo-glasgow-bus-driver-learns-polish-to-teach-workmates-the-local-lingo-1-1035076
RT – too easy – Jeff bridges πŸ˜‰

RT – you must be quite a guy. πŸ˜‰ My favourite among all of them is Johnny Depp – as in Chocolat. What is so great about him is that, gorgeous though he is, he’s willing to play nutters and weirdos rather than one of those handsome types who just stand around being handsome.

Wee and Tartan Lass, my Scottish vocabulary is limited to not much more than ‘See you, Jimmy’ and ‘Pick yer windie, y’re leavin!’ I also have a very early Billy Connelly album including the Glasgow Crucifixion of which I understand about 80% but I fall about laughing anyway. And one of my best friends is Scottish and she’s taught me a few.

I’ll certainly look out for Parliamo Glasgow. I like Stanley Baxter, especially when he dresses in drag as the other Hermaj. The likeness is staggering. πŸ™‚

I just tried the Scotsman link, but the page is unavailable. I’ll try again tomorrow, unless of course I can track it down just by googling parliamo etc.

Correction, the Scotsman link worked this time. I’ve bookmarked the page and will read it tomorrow. Right now I’m turning into a pumpkin.

Good morning all. Well off to the gym after three months!! No I am not procrastinating am waiting for the washing cycle to finish! 32 degrees today yAy – am trying to work out what to eat for breakfast which is not carb dense as once I start I find it difficult to stop (sugar addiction?) any thoughts eggs I eat but not everyday! Thanks for the greetings emel

    Hi emel
Simple. ..skip breakfast. Enjoy a healthy lunch after the gym. Exercise is better on an empty stomach πŸ™‚ P

Good morning fastrackers, actually I am just off to bed. My daughter came for dinner and I sent the poor exhausted girl home with 15 frozen soups and meals to heat up. Teaching in the state system ain’t much fun. I predict illness very soon.

I went mad today and bought some bright green size 14 jeans, sadly they are very, very small. Per Una I had faith in you, mistakenly. Oh well let’s see if they fit for our meet up although they won’t go with a red scarf. Teehee.

Out tomorrow and Sunday but I will try to post.

I will put email on my profile, actually not sure I have one, here goes.

By the time I look next post 3000 will have passed, please make it special, poem, joke, silly story, great link. Have a great weekend everyone. Keep moving, keep busy. A minute on the lips and a lifetime on the hips. An old saying but still true. Off to dream about all those dishy male actors.
    Jojo

    God, bloody technology,
I already had an email listed but it is also saying I haven’t set up a profile, I have.
    Help?

Jojo you add or delete your profile any time. Go to ‘my profile’and add info. Good luck P

Done it ta but sent my details to Lizzie with photo anyway, backup plan

    Next post 3000

Hi JoJo, just had to post πŸ˜‰

Many congratulations on the 3000 posts, testament to the wide appeal of the topic and your kindness and support of all.
