  • Thanks Jo.
And the mind games burn calories, as the brain uses much more than the rest of the body! !
    P 😊

    Thanks Jo. πŸ˜‘
Keep up the board games. The brain will burn lots of calories, as it requires much more energy than the rest of the body! ☺P

    PVE,
Now that’s a good idea, we can set a weekly problem to be solved, we can take it in turns. The winner sets the next week. Are you up for it? I am happy to set No 1.

Twin brothers were born in May but their birthdays are in June. One brother marries his sister. One brother says he is 40 yet the other 2 years older. How can this be?
No checking on Google please. Answer given on Monday unless solved by a Cyber Brain. If you know it, or can work it out, don’t reply until Sunday, give everyone a chance to look at it. Good Luck!

Weighed in this morning, maintained Pre Christmas weight but no loss. Fasting 23/1 today again but can’t go to SW tomorrow as I am being taken out for a surprise. Another Mystery! I will have to weigh in Monday morning at a different class.

Thick fog here which may spoil my travel plans today, I hope it lifts.

Hope the invalids are recovering. Keep warm and hydrated, much harder for Amazon, it’s freezing here today, all grass and pavements frosty white.

    Jo,

Your life staircase mirrors the experience of the majority of people apparently, with people generally being less happy in the middle years 40-60. According to the office for national statistics, the over 90s are happier and more satisfied with life than the middle aged!!

    P and Amazon,

I hope you are feeling better…Or at least not worse!

I have avoided OH’s germs so far, and this week’s holiday does seem to have revived my flagging winter spirits. I’ve been sleeping well, not worrying about work, getting plenty of exercise, doing some knitting, reading, playing piano, and having plenty of laughs with friends and family. And I remind myself that the nights will soon be drawing out here in the northern hemisphere πŸ˜€

    Thanks Jo and Happy.
I hope you are feeling better this morning Amazon.
We’ve had another day in the high 30s. After lunch I had a swim to cool off, then lay on the bed, under the fan, and slept like a log for nearly 3 hours. I feel so much better.
Still in the mid 20s at 9pm, so more swimming to cool the whole body.
We’ve eaten our way through more of the ham today. Ideal in this weather.
Jo, my brain is plain not up to your mental exercise at present. Hot weather is more conducive to chic lit! 😊😊😊P

Oops, mistake already, born in March not May

My brain is obviously not firing on all cylinders either

Happy -good to know I am not on my own concerning Happiness factor

    Morning/evening all,

If there was a frost here I missed it as I only woke up 15 minutes ago after a 12 hour sleep 😲

    Purple, glad you’re feeling better.
I feel better than yesterday and my chest is less sore when I cough but there is a way to go. Packing my gym bag last night was wishful thinking on my part, but the silver lining in this particular cloud means I won’t be forced into “celebrating” tomorrow evening just for the sake of it as the sound of my cough is sufficient to send everyone to the other side of the room πŸ˜†

Have a good one everybody 😜

Poor you! I’ve been working hard on keeping it in the head to avoid a chest cold.
I’ve agreed to dinner and 9pm fireworks tomorrow night…can’t see me lasting until the new year. It will come without me watching!! πŸ˜‰
Keep warm Amazon…I’m off to bed at 28deg, inside and out! No bedclothes tonight. 😳 P

    Amazon,
I travelled through thick fog up to Rochester to visit a relative. So glad to get home safely I hate driving in fog, people are so crazy driving at high speed when they can’t see anything ahead of them.
Off to the cinemas now, it’s all go here

    Hello Fasters,
Sorry to hear two girls aren’t feeling too well! Looks like from time to time we have to have something.
I am freezing and my nose is blocked up. I can’t breathe! I am using and nose spray but it isn’t lasting also sore throat. Well… it goes away.
Wednesday we are finally flying down to Florida. It is Sasha’s first time on an airplane. I am waiting to hear from her vet if I divide my husband’s lorazepam (0,5mg) in four is okay to calm her down just in case.
Meanwhile we can’t go down like gypsies lol. We need to pay extra for checked bags there for we’ll be going down with minimum.
A sailboat raising awareness about global warming docked in Town last week. Happened that they are Swiss and last night I feed Mother, Father, a journalist, a teacher and 5 children. They live with almost nothing. Water is gold and to eat is whatever is available cooked in one pot. The children are adorable! Ranging from maybe 12 years old to a 13 month baby. They speak fluent english, german and french. The places they had been and the people they’ve met are amazing. Now they need to collect more funds for their trip. They were very appreciative with the abundance of food I prepared for them … they felt in paradise. The kids loved seeing ice cream and lot’s of fruit.

I am not in a Fasting mood!
HAPPY 2017 to all of you. Wishing you health, peace, wisdom and abundance.
    Love
    HCB

Thanks for the link HBC. A wonderful story of adventure and educating! It must have been marvellous to meet them.
My own son lives a similar life with his family on the land and also happens to be a sailor, so I really connect.
Sorry to hear you also have picked up a virus…3 of us on 3 continents (or 2 continents and an island 😊) I hope you are feeling better before the Florida trip. All the best with taking Sasha 🐢P

Well that was an excellent film, I loved it. ‘A United Kingdom’ which is about Prince Seretse Khama of Botswana. He married a white woman and returned to his home in Africa to rule in 1940’s. Their relationship was not acceptable to the South Africans and the British Government so they were exiled. They returned after abdication to bring democracy and independence. David Oyelowo was brilliant but Rosamund Pike seemed a little flaky, but I guess the women of those times were quite powerless compared to now.
HBC- another victim of a winter cold, so sorry to hear this. It’s horrible flying when you are poorly. I hope the dog is OK. We use natural herbal tranquilliser for my dog when there are fireworks. I am sure the vet will find something appropriate for the dog. Good luck on your journey to sunny Florida. Interesting link about global warming. New Zealand is right underneath the ozone hole in the atmosphere so it’s a very relevant conversation in this house. We certainly do our bit although I could use the bike more and car less.
Fast did not go well today, prawn mayo sandwich for lunch as feeling very weak and cold nor did I keep to water consumption level as travelling too much. Try again tomorrow.
    Roll on 2017

    Hi Jo,

I saw a United Kingdom about a month ago and thought it was a wonderful production telling a very interesting true story that the majority have never heard about. I thought both David and Rosamund were brilliant and the chemistry between them was fabulous.

I’m feeling better this evening πŸ™‚

Yes, I remember us discussing it Amazon.

You’d seen the film…I’d seen the actors interviewed on the One Show…!

I toyed with fasting today, but ended up doing an 18/6… I’m 0.2kg above my upper maintenance limit, so not catastrophic and nothing that can’t be repaired by a proper fast or two when I’m back at work next week πŸ™

I’m sure if I had an upper maintenance limit I’d be above it as fasting has gone out of the window this week.

0.2kg is only the weight of a couple of glasses of water, maybe you just need to drink less πŸ˜‰

Less water maybe, but I don’t encourage less wine…Happy is already very restrained. 😊P

Oh P! I have been far from restrained on the wine this last week! Not one wine free day since 23rd December! Thank God I still work… Roll on next Tuesday 😁

I have got roughly 20 years to work on rules to limit alcohol consumption in retirement..

No Happy! You’ve got 20 years to develop a taste for really good wine. That way you can only afford one glass at a time πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ·πŸ·

    Morning All,
Got up at 6 am to go on my special day out. Been on the road since 6.45 am, heading to London. Still no idea what’s going on but just seen a sign for Watford.

Well done Happy, not a problem if you are looking at fractions of a pound. I maintained again today but am looking at a full calorie dinner with wine and pudding tonight. Live music so I am happy.

    Happy new year everyone

    Morning/evening all,

It is several degrees warmer here this morning and rather overcast. I’m considering going out for some fresh air as I’ve got cabin fever after 3 days at home 😫

Whatever you are doing for NYE whether it be partying all night, watching TV or hiding under the covers,

Have a good one everybody 😜

I wish you and yours a very happy and healthy 2017 πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰βœ¨πŸŽ†πŸŽˆπŸΎπŸ’–

    Hello all,

Back from Warner Brothers, world of Harry Potter. Really incredible experience. All the props and costumes from the films plus many sets to see. The most incredible model of Hogwarts on a huge scale. We tried ‘butter beer’ which looks like beer but tastes like cream soda. I avoided eating any ‘earwax jellybeans’ .

Now to prepare for posh dinner/dance- fasting definitely out of the window today.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2017🍻🍸🍾

Have a very happy and peaceful 2017 everyone πŸŽ†βœ¨πŸŽˆπŸŽŠπŸŽ‰P

Good evening all . Won’t be long now until the bells . As we say here in Bonnie Scotland . I am one of a rare breed lol ,A non drinking Scot :). I will wait up until 12 . Jim and I will wish each other a Happy New Year . We will phone our eldest and then Ross . Then watch a wee bit of Scottish Television and Off to bed . I have been a wee bit lax with 5.2 this last week but back to normal tomorrow . 3 years now I have been maintaining so I know what to do .
We are going to have our first holiday for years around April so I need to be trim for that . Our eldest granddaughter is getting married in August and I don’t want to spoil the photographs lol.

Have a Good new Year everyone .

    Wee xx

    Wee
How exciting, a holiday, I hope it is somewhere in Kent, we can finally meet up. Mind you I couldn’t guarantee good weather in April.

My evening did not pan out as expected, dressing up- yes, dancing- yes, enjoying a four course meal and wine- no. Nothing wrong with the food or service I just could not eat much, I got full after the baked Camembert starter, managed half the main course and refused the pudding and cheese. I only managed one g&t and one glass of red before reverting to water, which I enjoyed a lot more. Drank jugs of it as the room was very warm. Finally my big appetite has been cured. I sat watching my skinny friends demolish 4 courses and guzzle copious bottles of wine and could not understand how they could eat it. It’s incredible! It bodes very well for the new year. Happy Days!

At the end of the evening I walked home and was pleased at the exercise, a good 30 minute brisk walk. Chilly but refreshing. Plenty of revellers out and about, all friendly.

It’s been a very long day but I still have loads of energy. Ready for the challenges 2017 is likely to bring.

We are enjoying an interesting crosscultural evening…
Sitting on a verandah at 22deg with gentle rain, eating Christmas pudding, mango, blueberries and cream and watching the Edinburgh Tattoo on tv!!!
Great way to relax on New Year’s Day. 😊
We spent New Year’s Eve in a restaurant enjoying a degustation dinner overlooking the beach. The fireworks, let off on a barge on the ocean capped off a beautiful evening.
To find myself well within my goal weight still this morning was fantastic. It can be done! Live well. Eat well and not gain weight.
    Have a fabulous 2017 FTs. P 😊

    Morning/evening all,

I’ve woken up this morning feeling much better and my cough nearly gone. A good start to the year.

Fasting starts again tomorrow and I’m going to sit down today and write a menu plan for January. My intention is 23/1, no eating out before my birthday at the end of the month, and no alcohol as I’ve had far too much over the last 10 days.
I am going to peruse my new cookery book and make it a month of experimenting with new dishes and foods I’ve not tried before alongside my favourite healthy dishes.

2017 is going to be the year I finally reach goal and become a maintenance expert πŸ˜‰

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Happy New Year all.

It’s a chilly winter’s day here, but the sun is shining (something which hasn’t happened much recently!). It should be perfect for a walk… in a bit.

I’m also toying with a 23/1 today, to start the new year in good habits. I know I haven’t eaten excessively, but I have consumed a little more than I needed…

“Did nature give us bellies so insatiable, when she gave us these puny bodies, that we should outdo the hugest and most voracious animals in greed? Not at all. How small is the amount which will satisfy nature? A very little will send her away contented. It is not the natural hunger of our bellies that costs us dear, but our solicitous cravings.” (so said Seneca, a really old dead Roman, proving that nothing ever changes!).

    Hi Happy,

I forgot to mention that I’m kicking off the year with a 23/1. If I don’t I’ll struggle tomorrow and I don’t want to set myself up to fail on the first FD of the year πŸ˜†

I like the quote, very apt πŸ™‚

Thanks Seneca. Nothing wrong with old dead Romans…except for the dead bit, I guess. (What did they ever so for us, etc?)
All the best Amazon. You’ll achieve your goal, I’m sure.
My, short term, goal is to shake this b***y cold. Breathing freely would be a good start. πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘ P

Hi Fast Trackers And Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰
Happy New Year to you all and trust that everyone had a good time I personally always found the big who haa over the NY over rated but hey kay sarah sarah. My sister has struggled this Christmas and NY without Mum as she always cooked and fussed over her so she volunteered at her local church with a luncheon put on for the less fortunate folk at the parish and so found some goodwill in doing that you know despite all the tragedy around the world. The loss of life through drownings here in Australia and the road toll it is always refreshing to see the volunteers going about their duties with pride and a smile one couple she said has been helping in the kitchen on Christmas day for 30 years ….. Outstanding ok as is the usual for me it’s not the overeating that is the hoodoo but the beer it is of course liquid bread so the bloat needs my fast attention today lets get the fast on.
β€œThe less you eat the more you lose”
    Peace RT

    Good evening All,

Had a good lay in this morning after my late night then got up to get busy clearing up, putting away the Christmas decorations as I am going to be busy now until I leave for NZ.

Had lunch out, fish pie, delicious but followed by the irrestible rhubarb crumble with custard. So I had both, small portions, but no breakfast or dinner, 23/1 started. Drinking gallons of water too of course.

My red trousers today were loose today, great news as I could do them up mid November.

I hope everyone is well or on the mend. Good luck to you all.

    Good Morning All,
Quiet here today. I need to get up and going as two classes booked this morning, yoga and ballroom Fitness plus a swim in between. I will be glad to get back in routine. Meal out tonight again and tomorrow then it’s all quiet on the western front until my NZ trip. I hope to continue 23/1 indefinitely as it has proved very successful for me. No loss this week, I suspect the G&T’s. Ate up the pound I thought I would lose but no gain either ( over Xmas or New Year) and I have been socialising most days so I am thrilled.

Good luck to fellow fasters whatever plan you have chosen for 2017. Most importantly good health for 2017. I will still control two days to 500 calls but not count others, just keep it healthy, no alcohol or carbs on most days, just special occasions.

I have really worked on water consumption and am feeling good as a result.

    Jo,

Well done on exercising your willpower over the festive period, especially with all the temptation you’ve faced.

Will you get any wear out of your red trousers, or have they gone from far too tight to far too loose without stopping at just right?

I did a 23/1 yesterday, with another long walk (we had a beautiful sunny day, cold though), and have dropped the pesky half kilo I’d collected over Christmas. I’ll do another tomorrow to make sure I’m properly back in good habits for the new year.

    Amazon,

Father Christmas brought me River Cottage A to Z, so I’ll hopefully be inspired on the food front to avoid making us winter comfort stodge every night. I’ve also got to try more from Anna Jones, although I suspect more when OH is on business travels since she does wander into ingredients that scare him 😁

Well, it’s my last day off work, and the sun is shining so I’d better get busy.

    Have a good day all.

good morning all . I can’t remember the last time I was ill But I have been up all night with sickness and the runs . My head is splitting so I have had a couple of pills and I am going back to bed . I don’t think I will have a problem fasting today xxxxxx

Poor Wee! I hope it passes quickly.
We are all dropping like flies πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘P

    Morning/evening all,

    Poor Wee, get well soon.
Purple, I hope your cold is improving.

I thought I was better until I walked to the post box in the next street and had a huge coughing fit before getting halfway along the street!
I certainly feel better but my chest is still tight and wheezy so enforced sofa sitting again today despite the sunshine ☹

Happy, can you not just cook something and not tell the whole truth regarding ingredients until after he’s said “this is good”…….

River Cottage A-Z is bound to be fab but I really don’t have space for any more cookery books and there are some that need to be used more. My go to books for 2017 are going to be Anna Jones, Yotam’s Jerusalem and River Cottage Veg.
Anna uses a lot of sweet potatoes, spuds and various grains but I got this far without giving any of them up so I’m going to give several of her recipes a work out. I particularly like the look of the proper chilli as she calls it, and there are a couple of interesting looking beetroot dishes, a curry and a bourgignon style stew.

I’m fasting today and to be honest I couldn’t feel less like eating than I do right now.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Much the same Amazon. I think I’m ok, then go downhill again. Good fast today, so I look forward to spme eatong tomorrow πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰P

    Hi all,

So sorry to read of all you sickies!! Obviously once the Xmas adrenaline stopped, the lurgies moved in! I hope you all feel much better really soon.

I got on the scales this morning and got the expected result, a couple of kilos that someone else left lying around have decided to join me. But its great motivation for a good fast. Had a great fast all day, kept busy, very productive, then foolishly succumbed to some crackers with peanut butter tonight. We went to see La La Land and I only had soup beforehand, came home ravenous (11pm) after all the dancing and music (in my head!) Never mind, I did resist the cake and chocolates, so could have been worse.

Highly recommend the movie if you like musicals. The leads (Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone) were brilliant and the music was great. I loved that it had a more European flavour than American. I will see it again.

We had a lovely (almost) week at Jamieson, once the humidity settled. I think you probably have it in Sydney now Purple? Exhausting….we sat in the river a few days to keep cool. Melbourne is freezing again, jumpers and jeans weather!! Never mind, its good gardening weather!

    Good afternoon everyone,
I tried a new Yoga class today and it was brilliant, I will now book it weekly. It was jam packed so it might be difficult to get into but I will try. The teacher was inspirational and I learnt lots of new poses, she trained in India for 3 years. Bearing in mind I have been doing yoga 40 odd years that is no small miracle. I feel very calm now. The ballroom Fitness after was a breeze for me but others were really suffering after the Christmas feastivities, even the teacher was struggling.
Nama- I am sure the extra pounds will be gone within a couple of fasts, you are an excellent maintainer.
Happy the red trousers are a bit loose to be honest, I can get them on without undoing them but they are fine with a belt. They are slimfit so they should be good for another stone I think. The weight always goes very slowly off my hips, waist drops quickly by comparison. I have plenty of size 14’s and even an ambitious pair of size 12’s waiting in line. All my size 18’s have gone now and 16’s will be joining them soon. Just need a travel pair, aeroplanes and tight trousers are not a good combination especially for long flights.
Amazon,PVE and Wee- sending you cyber hugs and wishing you well. Keeping drinking water and flush away those germs.
Those cookery books sound good. I am definitely going to take some cookery lessons this year.
RT- Hope all is well with you and yours.

If it was remotely possible that water could flush away my virus any more than it flushes away weight I would be drinking like crazy…………

Amazon, apologies but the flushing was for Wee Mam. Stomach upsets are ghastly.

I have just given my dogs a bath since they rolled in something disgusting at the park. Now I can honestly say scrubbing two dogs is a real workout. My back is killing me but they smell good now so it is worth it.

Just doing some planning for the next couple of weeks.

    Hi Jo,

I don’t think my brain is functioning too well at the moment (must be a consequence of all that rattling around every time I cough πŸ˜‰ ) as I spent quite a while trying to figure out how drinking water would help 🀣

I hope I feel better tomorrow as I’m going stir crazy sitting at home πŸ˜–

I think mine is now hayfever. The pollen, plus humidity, often does that to me. Debilitating though as I have trouble sleeping and am exhausted on waking (like now).
Nama, we have cool and drizzly rain, so also ideal for getting new (Christmas present) plants into the ground. My hibiscus are loving this heat followed by rain…I have some stunning huge blooms on many of the plants.
I awoke starving after fasting yesterday. Most unusual for me, but I am sitting at my lowest weight, so I can listen to the message. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
I envy you being able to lose off your waist Jo. My weight peels off everywhere BUT my waist! P

    Hi Purple

Just mowed the lawn as the weather has cooled to a manageable 25C today. I treated the resultant hay fever with a saline nasal spray FESS, which does the trick for me.

Same weight as before Christmas, which means 5 kg higher than I wish to be. So i am beginning serious 5:2 fasting. As I approach my third 5:2 anniversary, I am aiming to be close to my desired goal weight. My BMI is fine according to all charts. I just want to lose extra fat from around the waist. As you observe, fat at waist is First to come and Last to go!

Happy New Year to all. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰β˜€οΈβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈ

We’ve been to see LaLaLand and Red Dog True Blue and have enjoyed both films very much.

    Cheers, Bay 🌺🌺

    Hi Bay
Bad luck about the 5kg, but with careful fasting and a goal, you’ll do it! ☺☺
FESS is ineffective on me, but Systane eyedrops clear my sinuses. So annoying, isn’t it, especially when you want to garden and bushwalk? 😣😜😲😀😧😳😡P

    Good Morning all,

Big sleep in this morning then 40 min chat to DIL, the morning has vanished!

I am with you Bay, just need to lose a bit more to flatten the tummy! Have been a bit lax since after fitting into wedding outfit, Xmas did not help! Still, we have the secret recipe don’t we?

Gorgeous day in Melb, off to the market now as there is no fruit and veg anywhere in this house – craving some coleslaw!

Re hayfever – husband used to get it terribly, then had acupuncture years ago which was very successful for about 10 years. Then some homeopathy drops finally cured it and he hasn’t suffered from it for about 20 years. Both my boys seem to have inherited that gene, both really sensitive to dust and pollens. I did not know what allergies were until I got married! My Irish ancestors all had alcohol dependence problems, not allergies!!

I developed hayfever when I moved back to Sydney in my 30s. One son cured his by eating no grains at all. A bit extreme for me. P

Purple, I developed hay fever in my 50s for no new reason that I can see. I am impressed with your son for giving up grains. I am convinced that for some of us grains are almost as bad as sugar.

Nama, I have been making your version of coleslaw for the last few days. I keep an airtight container of thinly diced cabbage, and at the last minute grate a tiny red apple into some of it, and add a small amount of mayo. And Bob’s your uncle, as my dad would say. Does anyone know where that saying came from?πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    Cheers, Bay πŸ’πŸ’

I had 2 Uncle Bobs. I thought it came from themπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
Do you use red cabbage in your slaw?

    Good Morning Everyone,
Great to hear you are on it Bay, well done on ‘no gain’ over Xmas. I think this is only the 2 nd Christmas ever that has happened for me, last time I was on a drip in hospital with stomach inflammation, suspected ectopic pregnancy, not recommended way to spend Christmas at 25 years old. It’s so easy to over indulge during the feastivitiies as there are so many eating opportunities.
I cancelled my meal out last night as I was feeling physically and mentally exhausted so I think my will power would have been the first thing to go when presented with a huge range of fattening food at a buffet, it was all homemade which makes it doubly bad because there is that obligatory ‘ you must try this, it’s amazing’. I am sure they didn’t miss me, there were lots of people attending the event. It takes place every year to ‘use up’ leftover Xmas food. Lots of turkey curry and mince pies, cheese and creamy desserts.
I never had an Uncle Bob but his name is taken in vane frequently in this house.
Barrata- Just booked a taxi to the airport, thought we would treat ourselves as parking very expensive for one month. Getting very excited to get some sun, must plan some packing and find my passport. Medium size suitcase this time, no restrictions due to packing my daughter’s stuff in my bag.
Sorry to hear you are still unwell PVE and Amazon. I am a huge fan of acupuncture too, it has resolved many issues for me, mostly muscular though. We did a weird thing at yoga yesterday, putting pressure on a prickly ball(tennis ball sized), rolling it from front of the ball of your foot to the back, then heel toeing over it. Strangely effective on the whole body, tingly. I had some low back pain before going to yoga which vanished after this pose, most odd.
Nama- I always have fruit and veg in the house, not much else these days though. Not a big lover of coleslaw though. Prefer balsamic dressing on salad.
PVE- Nordic Walking great for waist reduction, try it! I will check back in my records later to let you know decrease, it is significant compared to other body parts.
