  • I found a video of Penguin and his friends with those wild boar next door
    https://www.facebook.com/YKYABFW2/videos/1398104116971456/

Noooo., I think I’ll pass on the thought of riding one. Ours are much bigger and nastier than that. One killed a fully grown German Shepherd last month. (Dog that is, not Dusseldorf sheep farmer).

    Lololol! 🙂

    Hi LJoyce, Thin, Cinque, CalifD,
Penguin, Merry, Sybs, LindsayL, Quacka, JJulie and all others who may be just reading. Thinking of you all 😃

It always feels good to get home after being away – but I’d happily go back to Fraser Island tomorrow, though thinking of next year, maybe in September!

Your new home looks delightful LJoyce – enjoy your new adventure and I’m sure you’ll settle in nicely.

Thin, I’m sure my experience with Telstra is an inside job – your bridge friends episode confirms it, along with others I have spoken to. Don’t trust any of them now but, alas, living in a rural country setting means Telstra is our only option for coverage! All be very careful!

Cinque, I’m having problems getting back into a routine though plan to be more accountable and really start FD’s seriously next Monday and Thursday! I really don’t wish to gain what I’ve lost!

So glad to see you back Penguin and JJulie – you were very much missed!

Some have been unwell – please take care, rest up, and I wish for you all to get better real soon.

Currently at my Sister’s 2 hours from home – visited brother in hospital who has been extremely unwell and a cause for concern and worry. Hopefully, the Specialist can sort him out – blocked artery to stomach causing small bowel inflammation, abdominal oedema, and also pancreatic ischaemia with gross pain! Oh for a magic wand 😔

Must go – heading home! Will catch up soon.
Enjoy your weekend and whatever you are getting up to. Bye for now!

I’m re-posting my entry from yesterday as I’d answered Cinque in that one before removing it:

Ha ha CalifD, things with legs don’t bother me. It’s funny that I like bobtail lizards because ours do look like snakes with legs. Sometimes I get a start when DD leaves their shed hides lying around the garden.

Cinque, I’m sorry you sometimes struggle with a FD but I like your analogy. I had a great FD yesterday as I went for a supplementary bridge lesson in the morning, then my walk, obligatory cauliflower soup and then after the second feeding (root and barley soup), OH and I went to the movies (Chappaquiddick). When we got home, I realised I wasn’t hungry at all so that was a 250 cal FD. 59.3kg today.

Merry, it must be exciting making all those travel plans. How kind of Penguin to offer to host you. Intesha, I hope you’re enjoying UAE or perhaps you’re already home. Don’t forget to check in, we’re here for you when you’re ready. I hope your Dad has been well in your absence.

Sybs, great news about the BP meds, well done. JJulie, are you feeling well now?

Cinque, DD has wanted to be a vet since age 7. She never had a Plan B and we were always worried that she might not get accepted. In the end, she was offered a place at Massey (NZ), Sydney and Murdoch and then there followed a heart wrenching week trying to decide which to accept. The others were far more exciting prospects but Murdoch allowed her to live at home plus it’s the only uni in Oz to have its own farm on campus. Which reminds me, today is cowpat lotto day.

Oh Penguin, and I was so sure it was you. 😉
Cheers to your broadbeans, I love how they can be harvested before anything else even thinks about being ready.
All power to you getting kids ready for school, feeding them, and fasting at the same time. Wow.

Good morning Arelkade, So sorry to hear of your brother in law’s awful situation. I do hope they can keep him out of pain and that everything heals well.
You’ve got the weekend to plan and hopefully then you’ll be ready for a great Monday Fast.

Cali, thanks, I do need to update my profile it is a good idea to add that in.. I wonder if it is our microbiome that accounts for the different ways people experience fasts.
And yes, getting the stressful things out of your life is a much better solution than having to find ways to cope with them. (including centipedes in your case).

LJoyce, that looks like such a wonderful place to live. Congratulations! End of an era. Start of a new one.

Thin, lovely to see your daughter’s blog. I rather hoped my daughter would have a passion to build on into her professional life, but no. Slightly interested in lots of things, but nothing in particular, although she is getting heavily into textiles at the moment. I wonder what the grandkids will be like.

Well, I have had a slow start to the day. It rained overnight, the garden is very happy and the cat came in, like a good girl. Now it is lovely soft Melbourne grey. A good day to work, so I had better get going.
    Best wishes all.

    And now, today’s post:

Update on cowpat lotto – no chance of a win as our (randomly allocated) square was in the corner making it virtually impossible for the cow to poo in it. Also, it was in the sun and the cow naturally heads for the shady part of the grid. A lot of fun anyway.

Arel, best wishes for your brother’s recovery. You mention having trouble getting back into a fasting routine. I’ve tried to make 5:2 a part of my life no matter what I’m doing. This includes holidays. I think I’m in the minority, possibly with Merry, but I do find it’s helpful to incorporate fasting when I go away even in a modified form – for me that’s 6:1 when overseas or 5:2 if we’re self-catering. Travel scales essential!

I do this because I don’t trust myself not to give up once out of the routine and because I don’t want to come back from holidays starting from behind. It’s depressing enough coming home from a holiday. I know others prefer to just enjoy whatever’s on offer and forget fasting, dealing with it when they return. I also hear a lot of people say they find it hard to get back into the routine – or they return months later having abandoned it for a much longer period following a holiday or some other ‘life matter’. Anyway, 45 months since starting this WOL without skipping a fast, I thought it’s worth sharing that with you. But please feel free to completely ignore the advice!

Good morning and it’s been a long one. I was woken early by very loud rain and was clearly not seeing straight. I looked at my little travel alarm with its “glow in the dark” hands and thought it said 6:15. After trying to get back to sleep for about half an hour I gave up and decided to start the day, had a cup of tea and turned on the laptop. Then I discovered I’d gotten the hands mixed up in the clock – it had been 3:30 not 6:15! By that time I was so wide awake there was no point trying to go back to bed. But it’s been a very long morning and now I feel like a nap.

Thin, I agree about sticking to routine. I find that the moment I get slack with behaviour patterns I lose them. The only week I’m stressing about fitting in 2 FD is moving week as I don’t know when I’ll be in a position to cook FD meals. I can’t be sure the gas will be turned on from day one in the new house as it’s a new gas connection. I figure I’ll do a FD on the Sunday and I was thinking about making moving day my second FD as I’ll be busy, but I’d need to be able to buy a low cal dinner. I’m not sure that low cal fast food is a realistic prospect.

Arel, I hope your brother’s condition improves soon.

Penguin, do the wild boar come and eat your veggies? I think I’d be game to chase away the birds, not so sure about a boar with it’s snout in the bean crop.

Have a good day everyone, another NFD for me.

LJoyce – when I moved a few months ago, I contacted both my power company as well as telstra (for NBN) about 2 weeks in advance and asked them to transfer my accounts on a certain date. Every thing was fine when I moved in. If that’s not an option, maybe you have one of these small 1 burner gas cookers (with a butane gas cartridge) you can use (living up here I’ve got one as part of my cyclone kit)? Or make your FDs salad days, but maybe down south it’s already too cold for salads. Don’t stress over it, all will be just fine

Thanks Sybs, yes it is too cold for salad this time of year – for me anyway.
I should have electricity and water as they are already connected and just have to transferred to my name on settlement day. Gas and phone have to be connected to the property as well as being put in my name. I’m making the phone calls on all those things Monday, which gives them 3 1/2 weeks.
However I have just realised that I’ve been using an electric hotplate that plugs into a power point lately (to avoid any spill on the new gas cooktop here), so I can just plug that in. Even if I don’t have gas I can cook things – once I find which box I’ve put saucepans in!
I’m thinking I might pack a “first night” box that contains the essentials so I don’t have to go hunting after a busy day. I was also planning to pack a suitcase with some clothes, shoes, toiletries and a towel to get me through the first couple of days. Otherwise I’ll end up with a dozen open boxes with contents spilled looking for things I need immediately.
Every time I moved before I’ve had an overlap of rental and house purchase/sale so I’ve been able to move the basics across to the next house in my car before the removalist date. I don’t have that option this time so I just need a different plan.

Arel, I hope your brother’s doctors get his condition sorted out quickly and that he’s getting effective pain meds in the meantime. I hope it’s one of those things that can solved in the next couple days so relief follows.

LJoyce, I love your new home pictures! It’s so bright and airy looking and I’ve always been a fan of the big open floor plans. The kitchen counters are beautiful. It that the quartz that has the marble look? I had seen something similar here when loooking for bathroom counters. The look of marble with the easy care and durability of quartz. And I love the bathtub. What a lovely look, especially with the dark floors. That open veranda will be usable even in rainy weather. It’s really like a big extra room of your house. Very nice choice. It’s perfect.

Cinque, it sounds like you’re getting our cold rainy seasons and we’re getting your Spring. It was about time for a trade. I’m tired of being cold and am ready to bring out the t shirts. It got up to the mid 20’s here today and sunny.

Sybs, do you get a proper Winter there, or is it pretty much warm all year?

Julie, I hope you are feeling better and getting a good rest now that you’re home.

Thin and Merry, I agree on the importance of routines for 5:2. Being sick much of the last couple weeks took me out of my FD routine, the first time ever since I stated 5:2, put I’m planning on getting back to it next week as long as everything is going well. I actually probably did fast several days last week because I ate so little several days because of upset stomach. We haven’t really traveled on holidays or vacation since I started 5:2, but I think when we do in the future I may skip the FDs but my rule would have to be to get back to FDs immediately on return or in the future sticking with FD even on holidays. I have managed a couple of 5 day business trips by just switching FD to the days I was home.

Cali, the counters in the kitchen and all wet areas are Caesarstone. I suspect it’s what you call quartz. It’s a man made stone but much more durable than marble as it doesn’t stain or scorch. A covered outdoor area was one of my must haves. It’s a tiny block – about a quarter of the size of my land here.
Hope you are getting plenty of rest.

Cinque. I don’t think I was ever that small. I haven’t ridden a pig for over 60 years, and then it was a very friendly large white. The problem with pig riding is that, apart from the ears, there is nothing to get hold of.

LJoyce. I have a stone wall round the veg patch, but they could make a mess of the grass out front. Over night boar can make a sports field look as though it has been done over by a bulldozer. They are extending their range so we see them more often. One got itself shot for being aggressive in the grounds of our village primary school. More of a problem on a daily basis are the sheep that roam free in the Forest – thirty of them strolling through the village does not improve the traffic flow. Have fun moving. It is something I did 42 times before we came here 15 years ago. Twice we had three homes in one calendar year. Some boxes went through several homes without being unpacked. I am happy to have stopped doing it

Arel. That combination of medical problems sounds distinctly unpleasant. Fingers crossed.

Lots of last minute running around today before we are off tomorrow. Backwards and forwards between home and grandchildren who are about 45 minutes away. OH to the medical centre for more anti-biotics (got bitten by something whilst we were in London for her birthday last week). We will have wifi where we are going so I will continue to read, but probably not post.

Penguin, your OH was bitten by something while you were in London? A bug or a wild boar?

Well it wasn’t me and I think she would have noticed a wild boar chewing on her chest, so that leaves us with bug We had been to see the new show “Tina”, a musical based on the life story of Tina Turner with many of her hits. Excellent – audience on their feet for the last ten minutes. The bite, if that is what it was because the medics are not certain, was an unwanted souvenir.

Good morning SHs, hope you all have some nice plans for this weekend.

Penguin, the musical sounds like a lot of fun, apart from that bite.
Glad the boar can’t get into your veggie patch. I always imagine them digging up tubers rather than eating their greens anyway. My uncle used to keep pigs,(unlike you I don’t think he tried to ride them, although his sons probably did). Hw always planted a turnip field for them each year. They were in seventh heaven when he let them in there to forage.
Enjoy your holiday, I hope you get some lovely sunshine. Fly safe.

Cali, I know there are some foreigners who expect to see kangaroos bounding down the streets in Australia, but I don’t know anyone but you who thinks there are wild boar roaming around London. 😀

After trying to figure out how to manage FD scheduling next week I’ve decided I need to do a FD today rather than tomorrow. I have my next infusion on Thursday and I can’t/won’t fast the day before as I had already arranged a lunch with some people I used to work with. We’re going to an Italian cafe so my plan is to just have minestrone. I’ll probably do a miso broth with veggies for dinner that day. It will probably be a bit more than 500 cals, but hopefully restricted enough to minimise my treatment side effects.
I’ve also made a decision about FDs during moving week. I’ll do a proper FD on the Sunday then do a “dinner only” day on moving day. If dinner ends up having too many calories I still have 3 days left that week to do a proper FD. One of the reasons I want some control over eating on moving day is that it would be so easy during those days to get into a fast food pattern and I want to avoid that.

I’m washing linen and clothes today as the sun has made an appearance so I might get them dry. I certainly hope my sale contract doesn’t fall through as I’m washing those carefully ironed sheets off the spare bed. I’ll actually need to sleep in the spare bedroom for a while when I move as there are no blinds and I can’t sleep in the master at the front of the house until there are.

    Have a lovely weekend all.

LJoyce, no wild boars roaming London?! Next you’ll be telling me there are no werewolves in London either. 🙄 Well, perhaps the werewolves ate all the wild boars. (Just like the crocodiles eat all the sharks in Aussie rivers.) 😁

Re the blinds for the new house, after purchasing those honeycomb shades for our French doors online, through an Amazon seller, I ordered wood/pvc blend wood wide slat blinds for a different window that had an old broken blind. The prices on both the shades and that blind were much less expensive than buying locall and both were simple to hang. The quality looks the same as my older, much more expensive ones. This link is for a US company, but there are probably similar there. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LS0SG7U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We are off in a couple of hours. I’m beginning to think we got the timing wrong – our weird weather is giving us the hottest, sunniest holiday weekend in decades. Warmer here today than Oporto and my asparagus has decided to pop up just as I leave it. I have offered it to the neighbours but none of them like asparagus.

Penguin, I wish I lived nearby. Asparagus is one of my favourite veg. A bit too far to travel for a bunch asparagus – even home grown.

Cali, we have a tv program here called Gruen Transfer. It’s about advertising but presented in a comic way. Each week they invite two ad agencies to develop an ad for a specific issue (usually something very silly). This week they were challenged to make an ad to convince Australians it would be a good idea to become the 51st state of the US. This was the winning ad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbPSsOHeg20
I notice they didn’t use health insurance or doctors fees as a comparison – although it’s probably the only thing that’s cheaper here.

    let me help anyone.

ive actually lost nearly 2 stone in 3 weeks from drinking tea.
if anyone needs more info please email me.
    caseyrouse54321@gmail.com

    love casey xx

LJoyce, I love that ad! 🤣😁😁😆🤣😁! But I have another suggestion: Annex California as your 7th state! Trump doesn’t like us anyway and would probably be happy to see us go. The state has an economy that is greater than a lot of whole countries and that should help with fitting us in to your national healthcare system. We grow avocados here which would likely lower your avocado prices when we were all one big happy family. And your over population of kangaroos? Just send some over here to your 7th state! 😁🥂

We will need a home after Brexit. Reading the posts sitting in an airport waiting for a delayed flight, the French Air Traffickers are on strike again.

Penguin, French airport workers must like to strike. After an 11 hour flight to Paris we once had to wait over 4 hours because the workers who unload baggage went on strike and we couldn’t get our luggage off the plane.

We made it, only an hour late, Fortunately from U.K. to Portugal we can dogleg out over the Atlantic and avoid France. 5:2 at risk already. On arrival we were immediately handed a glass of Port and the Portuguese specialty custard tart.

I love Portuguese custard tarts – just the thought makes my mouth water, and today is FD – how cruel is that :-))

Penguin, what a friendly welcome. Do you still take photos of Porto? You’re bringing back lovely memories of pastéis de nata and Porto. We rented an apartment and I found a cauliflower so fasting was easy. I remember a lot of hilly walking. I have just revisited my photos of which there are far too many duplicates. I just couldn’t stop taking photos at various times of the day, different vistas, or so I thought. It must be one of the most picturesque towns in the world. Have fun!

Good morning all. It’s a fine mild day here and I think a spot of gardening might be in order this afternoon. My FD went well yesterday. I pulled the last serve of Cinque’s mung bean stew from the freezer, divided it between 2 bowls and added miso broth to dilute into a soup. I had one for dinner last night and will have the other for my next FD.

I broke my fast earlier than usual this morning. I bought a decadent looking cereal at the bulk store when I was exploring the Mitcham shopping centre last week, (it’s near my GP so decided to do my shopping there for a change) and hadn’t tried it yet. It was made from buckwheat, shaved coconut, freeze dried mulberries and lots of cocao – basically “healthy” coco pops! It was a bit intense for me so I diluted it with lots of rolled oats, some albran and chopped almonds. The diluted version was much more to my taste. The buckwheat makes it really crunchy, although I still think I like my usual oat cinnamon hazelnut muesli better.
I decided to stock up on cereals as I figure I’ll need some easy lunches in the next 3-4 weeks. Muesli with kefir or porridge and maybe rye toast and a boiled egg will fill me up nicely. I didn’t really want to be planning lunches and dinners at the moment, so something predictable is helpful. When I know I’ll be eating lots of boiled eggs I tend to boil them all at once then refrigerate until needed. But I like them warmed up before they go on my toast. That involves the tricky exercise of microwaving them just long enough to get them warm but no so long that they explode! It’s a very fine line. I can get away with about 30 seconds on high – any longer than that is risky business.

I need to make some deliveries shortly – returning things I borrowed from friends and family to stage the house. I think I should also get all the pictures off the walls in case my peel off hooks don’t come off cleanly. I have spare paint, but don’t want to be doing the patching close to moving date so knowing whether that’s needed now would be good.

Penguin, I am envious – not of the glass of port, but Portuguese custard tarts will always be on the short list of my favourite things. I tried to make them once – the pastry is made in a spiral and very tricky. I decided they were better left to the experts. I’m glad the welcome made up for the French strikes. Enjoy your time there. I know it usually expands your waist line but also sounds like a wonderfully relaxing place to get away to.
Sybs I feel your pain. I’m on a NFD but am still feeling the absence of custard tarts.

Cali, that’s not a bad idea. California has a climate that would fit in rather well with us. The beach culture would fit. Even the produce California is traditionally famous for (oranges and almonds) are grown here too in abundance. (I hadn’t known about the avocados – we grow them here in the sub-tropics not the more arid regions.) Not so sure I’d want hollywood though, the cult of celebrity just turns my stomach.

Cinque & Thin – both fasting today? I fell odd having fasted yesterday instead.

    Have a nice Sunday everyone.

Yes, fasting today LJ. Welcome too after an Indian festival in our local park prompted me to buy our dinner there and bring it home last night. I noticed all the offerings were high in carbs and that the Indian community looked, mostly, overweight including the children. Very different fare to home style cooking in India. It’s a shame that our western influences have affected the Asian communities making them prone to diabetes. My neighbour and I struggled to find ‘healthy’ options but I came home with a delicious paneer curry and another chic pea which were more than enough for the three of us.

Don’t look now Sybs: https://imgur.com/G4XXHFK I had a third of each these on my first day in Portugal and then abstained. Also tried another dish for which they’re famous – can’t remember the name but perhaps best forgotten: https://imgur.com/IRYt3Te. It’s essentially an enormous multi-layered white bread meat sandwich, smothered in cheese and gravy, served with chips! https://imgur.com/mbPM8vJ What’s it called, Penguin?

Thin, The curries sound wonderful. Paneer and chickpeas are my favourite proteins for Indian curries.
I’m all admiration that you managed to stop at only 1/3 of those dessert. I’m sure I would have wolfed down the lot before stopping to think about it. I have to say though, that gravy covered sandwich does not look or sound at all inviting, and adding chips would not make it any more appealing. I’d rather have another custard tart! Hope the FD goes well.
Amazingly I managed to eat my cereal at 10am without being beset by the munchies. I had about 30 minutes of wanting to keep eating, but I ignored it long enough that it went away.

Well, there were three of us LJ, so they had to be divided three ways. The small one chosen by DD was the best. DD has just informed me that the sandwich thing is called a francescina. Tourists try to consume the entire dish. OH and I shared one without chips and still found it too much. DD managed her own with chips! I’m with you, I’d give that a miss in future.

LJoyce, some things about the Hollywood culture would probably make you smile. I just saw that Steve Irwin now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (Cover your eyes, thin!) https://cbsphilly.files.wordpress.com/2018/04/gettyimages-951577552.jpg

Hiya everyone. I won’t be posting for a while as my mental health isn’t too good at the moment. I have been feeling very negative about life and I am not going to get on here and blurt it. So until I am back, take care all, thanks for the help and encouragement and I will post when I am able to. xx

I managed to have a fairly productive day. I returned everything loaned to be for the open inspections. I also dug lots of holes in the flower beds and planted out ave a dozen of the pot plants that I used for staging but don’t want to take with me. Then I scrubbed out all the plastic pots and put them int he recycling bin and cleaned up the nicer terracotta pots to take with me. The only things I filched from the garden bed was part of a lemon thyme plant and also one of the many ordinary ordinary thyme plants. These will be the beginnings of my herb garden at the next house. When I came back inside I was muddy and wet and I wondered if this was the last time I’d come in from the garden looking like that. There’s limited opportunity where I’m moving to get muddy, although when remove the front lawn it will probably be messy.

Cali – lots of things about hollywood make me smile, but not in a good way. In fact it’s probably more of a grimace than a smile. I’m mostly appalled at the endless media stories, purporting to be news, about unimportant things happening to bunch of self-important people that I don’t care about. Is that too blunt? I’ve never understood the cult of celebrity – it’s too seldom focused on people who make a genuine contribution to society.

My NFD dinner was a 1/2 serve of chilli con carne with wholemeal toast and 2 poached eggs. Very nice, the eggs diluted the chilli which I’d made a bit too hot. And after an afternoon of gardening I actually felt like I’d earned it.

    Hi PaulaMac,
Just saw your post and want to send you lots of good wishes. 🌺🌸🌼🌷🌼🌸🌺
I hope you have good support, you deserve it. If you haven’t got a good counsellor or other professional support already, please talk to your doctor.
And If you haven’t got good friends to talk to, you had better come here and blurt it to us. That would be much better than letting negativity swamp you.

Best wishes and all good things.

I’ve had a busy weekend. Littlest granddaughter dislocated her elbow and while they were dealing with that at the hospital I rescued older one and kept her til this afternoon. She was awake in the night again and I had to jettison my fast day ☹️ To survive.
Little one was fine once elbow popped back in on third attempt. I’m going to bed very soon though!

    Catch you all tomorrow.

Sound advice for Paula, Cinque. Best wishes Paula. Agree with everything Cinque said. Take care.

Ooh poor little grandie. How did she manage that – or does she have a condition causing it? I bet there was a bit of screaming during the session at the hospital. Poor grandma. FD tomorrow?

LJ, I think you’re gonna shed a tear or two when you leave that house! What a kind and thoughtful seller you are. I meant to ask the other day, why can’t you get the blinds (and anything else you need to add/change) organised at your new house before you move in?

Another FD almost over. Barely even noticed it. LJ, I might even get that birthday celebration dinner next week. I’m thinking of Korean SSAM.

CalifD, thanks for perpetuating the snake theme, of course I had to look. I admit that is a very colourful creature (the snake, not Steve Irwin). I’m not a fan of either. The thing I find weird about celebrities is how you can find their first names on the covers of magazines as if we all know them personally. “Brad and Jen adopt five babies”. So who the heck are Brad and Jen? And who buys these magazines?

I think the celebrity magazines are a whole different media cult aside from Hollywood. I doubt that any real actors or actresses like them much at all. They often sue them for defamation and untrue stories. I guess there are always the fringe celebrities that thrive on that sort of attention. It always amazes me that anyone buys those magazines in the first place. They seem like a lot of trash to me. But then I don’t follow any actors or actresses in their personal lives. It seems like most live unhappy lives in spite of all of their money, opportunity and fame. Movies now are increasingly made outside of Hollywood these days anyway. It’s much more international.

Cinque, I guess it’s better that your grandie dislocated the elbow instead of breaking it. But it must have been very painful popping it back in place. Ewww! Little kids are so fast and active and many have no fear of climbing over things where they can fall. At a certain age they’re into everything.

Paula, I hope you feel comfortable to post here when you feel like it. There’s lots of positive subjects here and we want you to feel safe. And you have a lot to offer newbies who drop in with questions about the 5:2. You’re part of our little group, good or bad.

    Good morning,
Sister down from St Arnaud today and tomorrow and too hard to make either of those fast days, and then it is Wednesday and my normal fast day is Thursday so I will do one of those. Sometimes life conspires.

The two granddaughters were playing when the elbow dislocated so we dread to think what might have happened! Apparently it is very common in littlies and there is an cool manoeuver to put it back. The first couple of times they tried it didn’t work and they started considering a fracture, but then the Really Experienced Nurse came in, tried again and felt it pop in place. Ellie immediately started using her arm again and seemed to have no pain at all.

I got a better sleep last night and lots to do today before sisters time this evening. Best wishes all.

Forgot to say, a little Chinese place sold wonderful ‘milk tarts’ in Darwin. I adored them. Years later my sister brought Portuguese tarts from Casa Iberica (specialist supermarket in Melbourne) and I cried with delight to see my milk tarts. Apparently the Portuguese took them to China. One of the things I dreadfully miss now I don’t eat sweet things. I have that recipe with the spiral pastry, but never made them.

    PS2 Great organising LJoyce.

    Good morning all.

Paula, I hope your health improves soon. I agree with Conqe, If you need someone to talk to, we’re here.

Cinque, hope your granddaughter is ok now, what a horrible pain for a toddler to endure.

Thin, I will miss being able to look out of any window and see garden and trees. At the new house all I’ll see is the street, fences or eaves. However I’m already mentally planning the shrub planting to change that.
I want to get some custom made blinds for the front bedroom as I need a privacy layer and a separate blockout layer. This means getting the supplier to measure which is difficult to organise before I own the place. The only thing I’m organising ahead of time is my plumber so that he can be there the day after I move in to fix the things the building inspector identified.

I am feelings very sore this morning – especially my lower back. This highlights how little hard work I’ve done lately, if an afternoon of gardening can make me this sore.

I have to pay the deposit on the house this morning which means taking a bank cheque all the way to Glenelg where the agent is. Then I’m heading down South to visit my niece.

Today is another NFD which is handy as I have a birthday dinner to attend for a 5 yo tonight.

    Have a good day.

Heading home early, flying tomorrow. OH needs to see the medics again. The “insect bite” for which she has been taking antibiotics is looking really nasty.
No cheery posts until we get this sorted out.ui

All the best to Mrs Penguin. Do keep us informed.

Have fun with your sister, Cinque.

Hi LJ, CalifD, Merry, Lindsay, Arel, Sybs. Where’d everyone go?

Penguin, please tell Mrs. Penguin that we’re all wishing her a quick recovery. 🌷🌺🌸

Being back home with her own doctor sounds like a good plan. Please let us know when you’re back home and how she’s feeling.

Penguin – best wishes to Mrs P

Paula – if you are reading, hopefully you’ll feel better real soon – please talk to your GP or other health professional

Thin – I am trying to come up with a different way to do 5:2 as I am not shedding weight as hoped. As from this week I’ll be doing 3 x FD (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with vegetable soup only plus 2 small pieces of fruit – hope that kick-starts things again. Having said that, I really enjoy my FDs and don’t overeat on NFD, still cutting back on saturated fats and carbs.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful 5:2 day :-))

    Good morning,

Fingers crossed the Dr can sort out Mrs Penguins infected bite quickly now. So glad she has you to look after her Penguin.

Had a lovely meal with my sisters, and a couple of extra rellies, last night. And it will be just sisters today. I asked, and my sister lived in Newman for 10 years.

Sybs, good luck with your 4:3. I hope that does the trick.
Just in case you haven’t seen these two (apologies if you are sick of seeing them):

LJoyce, I hope you had a good trip yesterday, and a comfy seat to look after your sore back.

I’m still deciding whether to fast tomorrow or wait one more day til my usual day.

    Best wishes to everyone.

    Good Morning everyone

Just wanted to check in and say hi. I hope everyone who is not feeling the best starts to feel better very soon xx

I’m on a FD today and so far feeling really positive about it. I have brought some cut up mushrooms and dried shitake mushrooms to work to put in my lunchtime miso soup. I also have some dried seaweed that I bought at the Asian supermarket a couple of weeks ago. Its in long strips and very different to Nori sheets. It has a white bloom on it that looks like mould but I am assuming is salt. Has anyone used these before? I am hoping someone can reassure me it is not mould!

I’m doing back to back FDs this week (tuesday and wednesday) as my usual monday didn’t happen. I was feeling so unwell so I postponed it to today. Am much better today so I think I can do this. Fingers crossed 🙂

    Take care everyone x

thanks Cinque – I liked the woosh effect article, maybe I start incorporating a little cheat meal once a week, but I don’t really know what that is, because I don’t like eating rubbish (other than chocolate). As I mentioned earlier, I don’t actually weigh myself (don’t have scales) but my doctor put me on the scales 2 weeks apart and the weight was the same. But my tank tops, blouses, shorts and pants are still “getting longer” so I must be losing something!! Anyway, I am enjoying 5:2 or 4:3, so I’ll just continue with it, as I think it encourages a healthier WOL.

    Good morning all.

Penguin, I’ll add my well wishes to the rest. I hope the UK doctors are able to get your wife better quickly.

Quacka, I am joining you in a FD today. I overdid things too much at last nights birthday dinner to contemplate a NFD today.

Sybs, I hope the third FD helps. That extra FD has always had an impact on my weight. I had a lot of plateaus in the early months of 5:2 when I was meant to be losing it felt like I spent more time standing still. The tricky thing with extra FDs is that you may want to eat more on the NFD because of the sense of deprivation. Getting that balance right is tricky.
If you find yourself eating more on NFD then I have a suggestion. I found that the easiest was was to do alternate weeks of 4:3 and 5:2. If you space your FDs carefully when doing this pattern you can mostly still have 2 NFD between each FD. You get an extra FD each fortnight but it still feels like 5:2 because the FDs aren’t crammed together.
Fruit and soup is commonly what I eat on FDs too. Soup is very adaptable as you can add an extra cup of broth if you feel especially hungry.

Cinque, my back is still sore but improving. I did have a good visit with my niece yesterday. I took my new iphone with me so she could show me how to do certain things I couldn’t figure out. She also showed me how to do other things I hadn’t even thought to ask about!
I think you can afford to have a 6:1 week on occasion, and time with family sounds like a good reason to me.

As I mentioned earlier, I overate last night. It started with the cheese platter, which I have trouble staying away from. Dinner was a BBQ with baked veggies and salad. I had planned to make some healthy choices, only to find that the 5yo birthday girl who was sitting next to me put a piece of white bread with a sausage on top on my plate, then gave be a huge smile. I hadn’t planned on eating either bread or sausages, but I thanked her and reached for the sauce. Dessert was an icecream birthday cake. There was mars bar slice there too – did I mention that!

I’ve decided I’ll do a normal FD today and still do the controlled “2 soup day” tomorrow. Hopefully that will still be an adequate preparation for the infusion on Thursday.

Today I have to make all the phone calls to get utilities stopped here and turned on at the next house.

Another quick post with my breakfast cuppa.
Sybs the cheat meal doesn’t need to be junk, just a good big meal that gives your digestive system heaps to work with. Maybe, as LJoyce said, that is exactly what you will want after a third fast day!
But I also think that how your clothes feel trumps what the scales say.

Quacka, that sounds like a lovely fast day you are embarked on!
I think some seaweeds do have a white bloom. I’d suggest you touch your tongue on it and you should be able to tell if it is salt or msg. In which case you can just wash or soak it off, although it is probably only a tiny bit.
I’ve been reading Dr Mosley’s gut book and I am up to the bit where he talks about how wonderful seaweed is for our gut. I am sure I have some in my cupboard to start adding to my miso soup!

LJoyce, I could handle the sausage on white bread (and sauce) but not the icecream cake (with mars bar). Hope you have a good recovery day today. And look after that back! Does lying on the floor for 15 minutes help yours? That is my best trick.

Call out to JJulie. Are you recovering yet?

    Ok I’m off. Cheers all.

All you have to do is say, “where’d everyone go?” and you quickly find out! Great that no-one was too far away. Except Lindsay and Arel. And Intesha, yet to re-join us. Hope you’re all well and happy.

Quacka, good luck with that B2B. You’re stronger than I. Will you soak the shiitake mushrooms at work? That should cause some comments along with the mouldy-looking nori.

Sybs, you seem confident with what you’ve been doing and your new plans but should you want to chat more about not losing weight with 5:2 and possible reasons, please ask. 4:3 seems a bit drastic to me as it has to include some ADF which doesn’t seem sustainable. How much weight have you lost since starting in February?

LJ, I quite enjoyed last week’s 3:1 and 3:1 which presented themselves due to having to change two FDs the previous week. If it weren’t for always having a FD on a different day of the week, I’d consider that as my maintenance routine. Cinque, I am again thinking about switching my Sunday fast to Saturdays. But it would throw everything off balance including the enjoyable prospect that Thursday brings (with 3 days of NFD).

Cinque, that sounds nice to have your rellies and some sister time. I get all my sibling time via skype but we manage to keep in regular contact.

LJ, you had a bit of a blow-out last night. My turn tonight. I think we’re ordering a Korean feast cooked at our table. I’ve walked past this restaurant a few times at weekends and seen all the tables of food which looked really fresh and healthy – hopefully on a Tuesday night, it will be a lot quieter.

Hi all…..here I am Thin. I’ve been hijacked by families in need. Daughter falling behind in her studies as she wrestles her little ones and her partner’s demanding job, and son and DIL with a week old baby.
Hope all who haven’t been well, are feeling better.
I’ll answer in more detail when I draw breath, but just a couple from my skim through the posts.
Cinque your little one’s arm sounds painful – so glad they could help her without anaesthetic. .
LJ do you use a hot water bottle for your sore back? It’s a ritual for me,half an hour every morning. The myotherapist recommended heat after I herniated a disc a couple of years ago. I find the hottie really helps.
    Enjoy your day all.
