Getting heart rate to max

  • Just starting out but reasonably fit.

    For this to be effective I understand you need to go from gentle excercise level (say 105) to max-90% (say150) in 30 seconds. This is possible but for me but not in such a short timescale. Should I go flat out for longer or stop short of max rate.

    Please advise.

    Just a comment, if I may, while you wait for a reply. Often people associate maximum heart rate with SPEED, but it really is a matter of INTENSITY. For example, try running steep hills or doing an exercise called “burpees” : do a jumping jack, down to a squat thrust and out, do a pushup, in from the squat thrust, up into a jumping jack, repeat. There are lots of variations you can find on YouTube. Either of these might help you get max heart rate fast.
