  • Has anyone found any difficulties with the above conditions? This is my first day and I feel I’ve managed well. Reading some of the posts have been very useful. Thanks

I have Fibromyalgia/ME and a few other conditions. I am housebound and can’t do any exercise. I tried weightwatchers but reached a plateau, I think due to lack of exercise. I am hoping this will work 🙂

    Hi JaineClair and ccrlyn0001,

I was diagnosed with Firbomaylgia a month ago. I have started the fast diet a few days ago and after two fasting days I feel quite well. I noticed that you have been on this diet longer then me and wonder how you two are going so far.
One of the specialist’ recommendations for trying to improve my condition was to loose weight. I cannot do any exercise as well so I needed an alternative to try and shake a few kgs.

I am being checked out for fibromyalgia currently too. Basically just in a lot of pain and fed up with it.
I’m keeping on with the 5:2 and losing weight slowly.

Will come back here and check out how we are doing…I am still uninformed about fibromyalgia just got a new GP who thinks it is a possible for me given my pain levels and locations and lack of any other explanation.

I am diagnosed with Fibro as well, and it is a constant torment, but I just try to deal. I am actually feeling worse after 2.5 weeks of 5.2, but I think that might be the change in seasons, and it’s getting colder here in NY. I can do some exercise but right now I am chained to my desk 10 hrs a day working. At least I have lost 3 lbs!

I think I have been cleared for fibro but a weird inflammatory pattern showed up…calcium in my tendons which is creating inflammation (and pain) and I’ve been told I can do no upper body exercise, cause it will trigger the inflammation.

I am really shocked…last year I was doing strength training and going gang busters with it.

So, bizarrely, I may have to resort to the fast exercise bicycling. 🙂
I have arthritic knees but 3 minutes should be do-able.
I am also thinking Tai Chi may be a possibility but I am waiting on a Rheumatologist’s appointment to find out what is happenning.

I am doing well with walking in a local hydrotherapy pool for an hour 3x weekly now. Feels good and isn’t aggravating anything.

I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia & chronic fatigue.

I gave up smoking last February and have been I’ll ever since!!

I have put on about 3 stone which I know isn’t all from stopping smoking as initially I put on 8lb and lost that before getting ill in April.

I’m hoping by doing 5:2 that I will have more energy and therefore be able to do more….

Had anyone found huge benefits from 5:2?

I have fibro as well as other health problems. Had a very bad year and have regained 5 stone in that time. I have noticed that when I am thinner the doctors seem to take my health conditions very seriously – when I am fat they treat me like a lot differently as if I am to blame for my health being bad. Yet my health doesn’t get any worse when I am fatter, in fact my joints feels a lot worse when I am thinner – I am not saying that its not unhealthy to be obese of course – otherwise I wouldn’t be trying this diet. But just that you are treated differently when you are fatter – like you are not worth worrying about. The medical profession have never actually given me any support or help with managing my weight. Why is that when obesity is supposed to cost the NHS billions.
I think obese people need to have access to support groups. Each person should have help in finding out how many calories they need to maintain weight – I need 800 per day. Some people need more. It doesn’t help me for someone to tell me to eat 1500 calories a day when I know that will put weight on me. We are all different.
I want to be told the best nutritional information. Which foods boost weight loss, what foods to completely avoid (apart from the obvious) and I don’t want to be told I mustn’t eat avocado and nuts because I love both and they make me feel well 🙂
Obese people need psychological support as well. Can’t some of the billions spent on obesity be used to set up support groups run by medical professionals who actually want to help people.
At the very least obese people shouldn’t be cruelly toyed with by the weight loss industry. That doesn’t happen to people who have other serious medical conditions – unless you are a fat person that is.

Hi just looking at trying this diet, I was diagnosed with fibro and chronic fatigue had it for 8 years then i found a doctor who did a lot of testing and it turned out i had lymes disease, Ive just been on anti biotics for 10 months and am in recovery. Wanting to lose all the weight ive put on over the years of being sedentary due to pain etc.still have damage done by the lymes like arthritis and heart problems so I have to take it slow i do have green drinks and protien smoothies as it helps with repairing my system. cheers toni

hi i have fibromyalgia for years and got an official diagnosis about 8 years ago, my biggest problem is the medication i am on for fibro causes weight gain and other conditions prevent me exercising at the moment. i need to lose approx 4 stone to reach a healthy weight. on a positive note i am happy to say after 3 weeks on the 5:2 i have lost 4 lbs and feel a definite improvement in my energy levels which is a huge bonus with fibromyalgia so onwards and upwards i will keep going.

    regards queenieio

Hello! I’m a fellow fibro fighter, I am trying this 5:2 eating plan because I really struggle to increase exercise and because I am short and petite ish frame if I cut my calorie intake daily I’ll barely eat and with fibro I need the energy from food as well as the enjoyment from eating. Little pleasures are so important when you have this beast of a condition! I eat pretty healthily with the odd treat, used to drink a bit too much but cut that right out. Need to lose about a stone. my bmi has just reached 25. My TDEE is 1500. So i’ll aim to eat about that on non fast days. So far in 3 weeks I’ve lost 2 lbs (which I could have done easily without the 5:2 I think) so I’m hoping for more progress as I keep going with this. If it works then it could potentially be a really helpful eating plan for people with fibro and conditions that limit exercise. Fingers crossed! Nice to talk t fellow fibro fighters on here 🙂

Hello everyone. I have Fybromialgia and have been on 5:2 since May 2015. The weight loss has been slow but at least I’m still shrinking! At my heaviest I was 13 stone 6 lbs and I am now 12. 7. I have mild thyroid trouble so loosing any weight is a battle. It is so hard to deny yourself the pleasure of eating tasty things when your whole life is a battle with pain and exhaustion. I find knowing I can treat myself tomorrow really helps mentally (and I often don’t need to now). One important bonus is that I am just as tired on or off fast or non fast. So this is teaching me that extra eating when tired will not help. Sorry to ramble on. I would love to hear everybody’s experiences. Xx
