  • Oooooo bet I know. Michael is extending the 5:2 meal service to the Southern Hemisphere to make our fast days easier. Aaaand it will be set up to be made and distributed from Queensland by GYPSY on her motorbike!!!!! Just like Hagrid in Harry Potter!!!!!

    And that settles that 🙂

Look at me Gyps, I turned over a new leaf tooooooooooooooo

Hi Ads. Well yesterday I really did pig out. It started with some blue cheese ( which I adore) and biscuits. Not just a few but almost the whole packet. Then had more than a few Sav Blancs while watching the cricket with the neighbours. It reminded me of my lovely friend Brain while watching the footy last year. Every time the Swans scored a goal he had another glass of red. I was a bit like that with South Africa and Pakistan.
Not to worry, tomorrow is my FD & I will make amends. It really is so good to know that one can splurge out occasionally and just pick up the slack the following day.
Suegen I think it was on the previous page that you mention The Forgotten Garden, The Distant Hours etc. I’ve read all her books and keep looking out for her latest. I also like most of Kathryn Webb’s books.
CG I do so feel for you having to live with that pain. Is it a spinal fusion that you are going to have?
Malena. – I hope I got your name right. I love Scotland. My hubby and I once stayed at a B&B near Linithgow not to far from Edinboruogh. I may have the spelling wrong. It was beautiful.
    Cheers Doggy

Hi Doggy, not really sure now, he mentioned fusion yesterday but the last few times was concentrating on the crushed nerve but all will be made clear on May 1st, suggested I may need rehab depending on what he does. I’ll do whatever he suggests at least I see light at the end of this eternal tunnel.
I didn’t do too badly yesterday except for the “blinken” apple slice I made…to freeze in portions, could’t stay away from it, in fact having some now with my cappuccino. Was going to make another, but will just stew the apples and freeze in portions, less tempting. Egg and silver beet for lunch and steak with ratatouli for dinner so still being good, except this apple slice, too late now, it’s gone..yuuuum, oh well,!
Watching the cricket now, c’mon Aussie c’mon…… CG xx

GYPSY…. You are more cryptic than me!….. AND have not forgotten your pointy hat!
You are in tepid waters like SJ
Yam Yam…… You are way off…. good idea…. though it may be more expensive and if GYPSY is the delivery person….we will all be very skinny because of salmonella poisoning!

    Keep guessing………..Go GALXXX

Don’t know if Gypsy is a good idea for doing the deliveries as we’d all be so pleased to see her and showing true Aussie hospitality would offer a drink or two….poor Gypsy wouldn’t be in any fit state to ride far! 😆 but oh what fun…CG

Thank you all for the lovely welcome. My Very First Fast went surprisingly well. I was expecting more hunger pangs, more temptation. Keeping myself busy certainly helped. Just wondering, do most people opt for fasting Mon & Thurs? I’m interested to know which days are the most successful – for the majority of people.
I’m noticing lots of author names & book titles. Is this a group of avid readers? If so I’ll feel right at home! I work in a public library and also enjoy authors such as Kate Morton, Hilary Mantel (did someone mention Wolf Hall? Have you read Bring up the Bodies? Also very good). My favourite reads are usually historical fiction.
    🙂

Hi Teskat. It’s great that your first Fast Day went well. I think most of us have Monday’s and Thursdays as our FDs. Weigh day plus measurements on Fridays. That way we have two weekdays as ” normal” days but most of us try to stick to our TDEE. Then weekends are often social occasions so we have the odd overindulgence glitch. As many of our previous posters have said its a way of life and a way of eating. We are here for the long haul so it’s good psychology to not have to think DIET each and every day. Yes I think many of us are avid readers. I’m going to have a look at the authors you mention.
Country Gal I’m watching the cricket too. I was trying to crochet a puppy harness from a pattern I got off the internet. It all got too confusing counting stitches and watching at the same time. I hope Clarke makes a good score. Many seem to be baying for his blood.
    Cheers Doggy.

Yes, to Hilary Mantel! Teskat,my favourite genre is Historical Fiction too. I suspect my love of reading is a big contributor to me needing to start 5/2! But it is totally working for me so I don’t feel guilty for reading and I now have an 8 month old large labradoodle who keeps me on my feet at least once a day for a walk.
I came on here to answer your question but I see that Dog has beaten me to it and has said pretty much what I was going to say!

SOOOO SORRY YUM YUM did not mean YAM YAM….. had a senior moment!……GO GAL

GG don’t worry about it, Gypsy has called me Yum Yum ya loon in the past. I don’t sweat the small stuff and can identify with senior moments.

Teskat as Doggie wrote most of us do Monday and Thursday FD’s to have days in between which make it so doable. Also helps to have fellow sufferers on those days.

I enjoy Judith Cutler and some of Val McDermid’s series and Reginald Hill’s Dalziel and Pascoe novels. Ruth Rendell also writes a good yarn. Loved Alexander McCall Smith’s No 1 Detective Agency series too … I could go on and on …… YY

Doggie, 68 is healthy enough for Clarke, Smith was 72 I think, both can do better but poor Warner?? That’s a shock…sorry non cricketers!…CG xx

Thanks Dogsabie, I think I’ll also take up the Mon & Thurs routine. Hopefully it’ll slot into my life pretty well.
Sounds like I’m in good company, Uptightoutasight! What other authors do you enjoy?
Those who like Kate Morton may also like Diane Setterfield’s The Thirteenth Tale. Dark and evocative with an historical mystery at its heart.
I like the idea of having support on my fast days, too Yum Yum. Especially in these early days. Sounds like you’re into mystery/crime novels? Please do go on! Has anyone tried the Phryne Fisher mysteries by Kerry Greenwood? Much more involved (read better) than the TV series.
Sorry, I’m getting totally off topic, which I’m bound to do when it comes to reading!! 🙂

Hah! Been gone a few hours ‘n’ the place is shot ta’ hell! (sniff) You mob bin readin’ too many menus if you can picture the purple dream machine delivrin’ chook feed! to the whole cackling bunch! disrespectful! Haw!haw! Yam Yum, …er… whatever… her leaves keep changing, that’s for sure! And that Doggy is talking to her mate “brain” mwahhh! Harr! Haaa! .. about time! Gawd it’s so harrrd to be straight around you bent mob… I can hear voices!…. Is that coming from thr flyblown fridge?…. Eek! Gotta go! Save Blanc!

Ahhh, sitting on the banks of the Swan River, gentle breeze blowing, watching the yachts, cold sauv blanc by my side, 3.6kg lighter. Feeling great, but I’m getting really strange looks from everyone cos I’m laughing so much, you crazy bunch.
Teskat – I do Mon & Wed FD only because it suits my schedule better. If I’m naughty on Thu then I can slip another FD in on Fri! Then eat as a please on the weekend.
Gypsy – Please step away from the wine glass!
Have a great week everyone. CM

Doggie we could be in a spot of bother here unless our bowlers can get their act together….CG

CG, what does ‘blinken’ apple mean? In Dutch blinken means to shine or polish.

…um.. CG, re your surgery…. so I’m endorsed for Rehab, and massage (other than a nose twitchin’ bone pointer… etc)Plus there’s just about every branch of nursing represented on here. Don’t fret the small stuff, we got you covered, at least as sounding boards. But I would suggest you get a definitive on the op procedure. There’s a big difference between an ischaemic nerve complex and a bone malfunction. True, they often go hand in hand, but spinal chord complexes are a Neuro surgeon’s territory. Orthopods and general surgeons, not so much. I’ve had a Cloward’s procedure (bone graft to the neck vertebrae)30 yrs ago (Broke my neck being x hubby’s farm labourer in my spare time) plus a complex excision of a lumbar spinal cyst(Lower back2007)I’m walking proof it can be done. I had a neuro surgeon both times (same one I scrubbed for). If you have a good rapor with your doctor it makes all the difference, He’ll want to help you because it is so obvious you are helping yourself. Don’t be afraid of asking questions and expect clear answers. or maybe we’ll ALL COME WITH YOU!

FLEMMY, they’re swearing, mate. (don’t go there, meself) Shocking behaviour. On a public forum! let me innumerate the ways Aussies can be ever so ladylike whilst delivering derogatory terms in slang, Dearie . Blinkin’, bleedin’ ruddy, flippin’, flamin’, bloomin’, are all inferring it’s a BLOODY apple! (ie) it has raised their ire in some way, or the perpetrator wielding the apple is abnoxious, or they are just peed off about something and the apple is handy. Or perhaps they, too, just ‘haqve a shine on’ and it just sort of slips out. You see? Happy to clarify their behaviour any time, after all, I am the PR Rep. Gyps

Hi Flemmie….. “BLINKIN” is slang for BLOODY, DAM or some other adjectives that cannot be used on FD site. It Is form of impolite language to describe frustration of something.
Are you going to take a guess at the cryptic challenge?
    ……….GO GAL

Thank you Gypsy, never fear, I’ll fill you in on all he says, he is very experienced, check out his web page Dr. Lu Ton) so I have faith in him, funny I’m not worried, gotten to the stage of needing relief and over struggling, bandaids are not working any more, chiro Not to mention his costs, , anti inflammatories etc. and fed up with grunting, just standing, getting out of the car, lifting things, it just goes on, but the pain is getting me down, I’m such a goer but feel as though my wings have been clipped.
Flemmy, Bleedin is lady like for Bloody!
I’m glad you posted Gypsy, hate to think a few are taking your “cover” as serious, bit like Dean Martin, hay? He was a non drinker for many years, just a stage act.
Getting worried about the Aussies with the cricket, team, will be a close finish.
    Have a good evening…CG 🙂 xxx

Sorry Flemmy, Blinken same as Bloody just Aussie slang…CG xx

To the “POINTY HAT ” GYPSY…. Good point (LOL) about CG’s surgeon being A NEURO guy and not an ORTHO guy.
CG for one moment stop watching the cricket and tell us!…….GO GAL

    Y’all are a mad bunch 🙂
CG- I so hope there is some light for you at the end of tunnel. I cannot imagine how much pain you must be going thru…
Flemmy – blinken would be blinking in English too :). Australian sort of slang for “cursed” or “bloody”
Gypsy, could ya deliver some to me too mate, and no chicken-feed thank you kindly 🙂
My own funny story ( but if I get put in to an institution you can visit) – went to target today to try new (smaller) trousers – I was a size 16 in December, and… I fit into a size 12!! Anyhow, I was excited but had no one to share with, so told the checkout kid – “I don’t want to buy it yet, but could you believe it, it fits me!!”
Got a strange look and eye roll from the very young fit-looking kiddo.last heard her calling security…

Forgive the Odd post, but on a high after two days of happy feeding. Back on saddle tomorrow. Onwards ahoy!

YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! LOTUS is a blinken size 12. Well blinken done you.
I do think there has been a few SAV BLANC’s today hic hic……..GO GAL

Hello on this beautiful sunny but freezing Sunday morning!

Doggy, I agree, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, living here is a little like living in a History book.

Teskat, twas I who mentioned Wolf Hall, adaptation of the first two books. Brilliant, but stay with it as it is slow. Nothing like ‘The Tudors’ (Henry Cavell’s bare bum, sigh!)

Gypsy, my gran was a tiny, delicate Yorkshire woman, Chapel every Sunday, always wore a hat outside, prayers before meals, very very strict, played semi professional rugby league as a young woman. Not a lady to crosss. Definitely no swearing, Grandad was a miner, swore like a trooper at work, but of course not at home. For her, bugger was a term of endearment, as in ‘Bloody hell fire flame, come here you little bugger’.

Thanks Go Gal! I now have a full on craving for blinken Sav Blanc after all this talk.

Milena, what a cool gran to have – one played semi- prof rugby!!

Ah, Lotus, keep an eye out for the broom. Will deliver champagne, express! Yess! We know how euphoric it feels to go down a dress size! well done. (Don’t sweat the mental institute, I have friends in very low places, we’ll arrange the appropriate therapy…….).

Hiya! Charlie’s Mum! I see you’ve taken the pledge (DRINK! today, for tomorrow we starve!)onya’!

CG, Don’t worry, love, One of my facets is sure to be useful to someone. It’s not your fault I’m a sideshow. I can be found published in the National Library. And nobody will dispute my life is a stage! Hell, I keep hoping I’m in transition! Hopefully to someone better! And this is the first glimmer of hope I’ve had in quite some time! I do not deny I have done most of the stupid things I now know not to do. And I have little use for those who preach what they have not practiced! I also know the difference. And you are the real deal. You help yourself by helping others. You are serenity in the chaos. I practice and practice! but still haven’t got it right! Life, that is, however:

    I believe in magic
    I believe in fools
    For battlers I will rise
    And fight with any tools

But words are all I have now
    In my twilight years
    To strike the mongrel down
For our blood, sweat and tears

    Pen in hand I’ve wandered
Through life with all its bends
    The plainest truth I’ve found?
    Only laughter truly mends

    So hail my worthy victims
Whom I’ve “sent up” for the cause
If we find the cure to LARD
Then the victory will be yours!

But I will stop clowning and get back to topic, because I do appreciate what you are doing here and it is important for new people to be given the down to earth help that they need, to keep trying, and, ultimately, succeed. MAY WE ALL FAST WITH PURPOSE TOMORROW! Noight, Gyps

Ok…enough gang!! I now have a pain in my side laughing and I can’t type st..r…a..ig…htttt!
My OH is a big cricket fan so I am watching some of the matches too, nearly lost all my fingernails yesterday watching the end of the game between Ireland and Zimbabwe, very close call! Hope we make it through to the next phase. Obviously I’m cheering on the Irish, but the Aussies are my next favourites!!
Since getting a kindle I’m practically glued to it and read a variety of genres but love historical (fact or fiction) and murder mysteries. Phillipa Gregory (White Queen etc) is very good and I love Henning Mankel (Wallender series) and Jussi Adler-Olsen (Department Q series) – both Scandinavian crime authors. Also Ann Cleves, whose police thrillers are set in the fabulous Shetland Islands off the north coast of Scotland. She describes their wild beauty very well. Will look up the authors mentioned by others here, as I’m not familiar with some of them, but I’ll go on your recommendations.
GG – my latest guess…..’someone’ from this thread has been asked to appear on TV to talk about the success of the group and we’re all going to be in the audience!!….all expenses paid of course 😉
CM – sounds like you in the perfect place with the perfect company!
Teskat – I fast Mon and Thurs because I like to have a couple of days between fasts. I don’t weigh in until Wed because I think my weight will be artificially low straight after fast day and will go up the next, so the weight I am on Wed is more realistic of what I can maintain after ‘normal’ eating. I hope that makes sense.
CG – really hope you get the outcome you deserve, being in constant pain is so wearing…I take my hat off to you for your continued positivity and ‘can-do’ attitude.
Looking forward to the next instalments from this crazy gang of DETERMINATORS 🙂

Hi Fit, we might be crazy but you gotta admit, we are contagious too…. 🙂 CG xxx

Wooohooo WE WON c’mon Aussie c’mon xxxx CG 🙂

Yep gotta admit you’re crazy but contagious too! But hey it makes the journey so much fun! Who wants to go on a journey with others if it’s serious and gloomy – not me.
Fit some of my favourite TV crime/suspense shows are Scandinavian. They make great, realistic dramas….with great female lead roles, I might add. Got to look up some of those & read the books. And Fit I think you’re right re weighing 2 days after a FD rather than a day after. I do notice that I often go up a bit the next day. But I’m also a bit addicted to seeing & recording that low number after FD!
Gyps you can’t POSSIBLY be in your twilight years….you’re too full of so much fun! But keep it up!!
Milena what a great character of a Gran to remember. Pure Yorkshire.
Lotus I’m sure the young, fit-looking kiddo is telling all her friends about the strange size 12 lady who wanted to share personal info with her. LOL But geez you have to tell someone when the news is that good!

Now……who started all this talk about sav blanc anyway. Wasn’t going to have one today. So will you all please stop talking about sav blanc, chardy, pinot, reisling, champagne etc. Now ……..I’m gonna go and pour a glass in preparation for being very good tomorrow. Hey my resolve lasted at least 30 seconds!
Have a great FD tomorrow all of you wacky lot. Byee SJ

Fit love Ann Cleeves series. Do you watch any of the books made into a TV series called Vera? They are pretty true to the books and Brenda ?????? (just can’t recall her surname) makes a great Vera. Brenda Blethyn …YES!

If you have a Kindle Geraldine Evans writes a good police procedural with quite a lot of humour in it. The main character’s family is Irish and prolific .. enough said. Also Cynthia Harrod-Eagles writes a mean police procedural too. Her character is called Bill Slider. She also writes historical stuff but I can’t get into them anymore. Read too many when I was younger, much younger. All the dirt and dampness gets to me now 🙂

Well everyone is sparking on all fours this evening which bodes well for a good FD tomorrow. See you all then YY

Hey Aussies! I’ve never posted on this but have found so much comfort in your thread. I started 2 weeks ago and I have a question for you all – firstly, how do you keep your mind calm on fast days so that you aren’t thinking about it all the time (I’m in my 20s and have a lot of food and body conscious friends and don’t want to be like that!). Secondly, how do you maintain social commitments on fast days? Socialising is so food focused! Do you tell people about 5:2? A sincere congratulations to everyone who has seen results. It gives me so much faith in humanity reading your stories and your optimism. x

Hi, chippingaway, and welcome. It’s late and I’m a little old to be your mentor, but I love the fact that you are so ahead of the game! Good girl!

Others will tell how, but I’ll tell you why (you should proceed on the 5:2 journey of discovery) Firstly, You may not want to be food and body conscious (like your friends) but you already are. Because they, or the world you live in, has made you that way. 5:2 will give you a life long advantage. I wish I’d had the foresight to control the ravages of the ‘social wrecking ball’ before it became packed lard! and diabetes, and blood pressure and, and etc..
So, IF you are what ‘they’ term as overweight, then you are quietly anxious, already on the way to feeling disadvantaged in the social whirl. Just the fact that you are asking us means that you are out on a limb and worried about the quality of support that exists around you. I understand. Don’t worry. You can take one step at a time and keep yourself distracted by other things on fasting days (work, study, a movie, book, this forum, etc) fast days are not so rigorous once you get the hang of it. There are many foods and recipes that are filling and low cal. Preparing ahead is the key. Take it seriously and don’t get discouraged, or put off by uninformed opinions. This is your inner desire, to be in better shape, whether it be from a health or image basis, You are wise to be able to verbalize the issues, many can’t analyse their situations as well as that at your age. Youth is so competitive and short sighted.
So My advice to you is, seize the advantage of your own wisdom and don’t tell them what you’re doing (about 5:2). Let the results speak for themselves. Be the guru, not the butt of negatives from the unconcerned. Anyone who is in your inner circle and cares about you will know you have a need and should support you. So choose your confidents. Dazzle the rest! You will soon feel the difference and know it works.

You will learn very quickly how to manage the practicalities of our way of eating(WOE)It is adaptable to your way of life (WOL) and only requires you to have 2 days of low calories(500cals) per week. It’s do-able and probably more so on days that don’t involve heavy physical or social involvement, but eating less is a choice you can make any day. Few people are socially booked 24/7 (or they’d be thin from exhaustion!) AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE DAYS TO SUIT AT WILL. Many of us choose Monday and Thursday, leaving the weekends free.

You’ll need a calorie counter. Can I suggest you download the app called ‘my fitness pal’. Investigate the forum links above, check out the advice to beginners and stay tuned to this thread. Tomorrow you will likely find half a dozen responses to your post, our members will help you every step of the way. hope to hear lots from you in future. Gypsy

Hi, Chippingaway – you’re very welcome to this thread and I’m sure you will find all the answers to your questions and also find the determination to stick to this WOL. Fasting can be hard at the start until it becomes just another part of your weekly routine but the best advice I got here was to plan ahead…Work out your meals and calories for the fast day in advance, have the shopping done the day before so you don’t put yourself in the way of temptation. Even better, have something already cooked, such as soup, or in the freezer ready to defrost so that you don’t come home starving and reach for the nearest (usually high-calorie) fix. As gypsy said, keep busy and distract yourself as much as possible. Drink lots especially water or green/herbal teas, as quite often you are not hungry but dehydrated. Also, know that it’s ok to be hungry, it passes and you don’t actually die from it!! 😉 Best of luck and keep in touch.

Welcome CHIPPINGAWAY-To keep your mind calm and not think of food on Fasting days, You have 70 pages of Aussie determination to read. You will also be getting to know us! Some of the team have given good advice already YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY .Hope you enjoy being part of our wonderful team.

    FIT- another interesting guess….. cold

DAY 2 CRYPTIC CLUE: CATHOUSE PERFORMANCE

Have a wonderful day those that are fasting…… others that are feasting enjoy your day with interesting food…
Have fun with the clue……………GO GAL

Good morning team, I hope you’re having a relaxing long week end. It’s fast day today so have you planned. Any steamed fish in the freezer for ease? Have you boiled up an egg for when the munchies hit. This WOE is just so EASY, YOU CAN DO IT, try to ignore numbers on the scales, I know it gets frustrating when you are doing all you should, but get the tape measure out and above all, console yourself knowing how much better this WOE is for your inner health. If you are getting bored with your fast day meals, check out the recipes on line for low cal meals, there are 1000’s in fact it does your head in. Your AUSSIE DETERMINATION will see you through the hard times, have a drink, tea, coffee water whatever, it helps you feel fuller, it is all so so easy, try to stay busy and not obsess on food, get into something that you have been wanting to do but time never permits, do the pantry out! Repot some plants! Anything that is time consuming, it does help, take the dog for a walk, go for a drive. The garden always needs weeding and it is very rewarding 🙂 Have a great day team, tomorrow is back to the norm so be good to yourself, DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF and you know the old adage, if life offers you lemons, make some lemonade 😆 so away we go…. CG xxx

    Go Gal: Caterwauling?

Have enjoyed catching up on some of these posts.
I’ve been on 5.2 now for about 12 weeks and have lost 6 kgs so that’s spot on with my goal of about half a kilo a week. It varies a lot though – last week a big loss, this week a tiny one. But if I look at the graph on my tracker it’s very encouraging.
SO – if you have a week where you lose very little don’t be disheartened.

    Hi Chippingaway.
Welcome to the forum and this thread! Nice name btw, that’s exactly what we are trying do around here 🙂
I started this Way of Life (WOL) in Jan this year, so a bit of a newbie myself but really happy to have lost couple of dress sizes already. My two cents worth on the question of talking to friends about fasting on and on incorporating fasting days to your social life. Sorry in advance for a long post.
A lot of friends are supportive, but some confuse and alarm (“Are you sure you want to starve?) Or “Have you tried (insert [diet of the day –/ low-carb/ cabbage soup/ Atkins/green smoothie]) instead? I have lost x pounds that way” Or “Try hitting the gym – this is a fad diet and it will make your hair fall out and get you wrinkles” (yes, I have actually been told that…). So, I have steered clear of telling people what I am doing unless they are commenting on the weight loss, trimmer self etc. If they are interested, they will ask more, if not, they will walk away. Peaceful either way.
For 5:2 WOL with social engagements, it’s a very forgiving WOL. Just switch your fast days to accommodate social stuff. In any other diet (say, Dukan), you have to restrict how you eat and/or risk looking the odd one out as you can’t eat this or that. But for this WOL, on non-fast days, you can, if you eat sensibly the rest of the day, enjoy wine and food with your friends. If a fast day coincides with a lunch or dinner out, you can tweak the menu to choose a low-cal version (chicken salad no dressing or grilled fish with salad – no chips tho!, alcohol is pretty full of calories and is supposed to make you feel hungry, so good to avoid on FDs) If you do consistently eat over your TDEE (see FAQs on the top right of the webpage to learn about this), your weight loss will be less to nil, so it’s good to eat within your “calories budget” so you can splurge on some days. I have not had any issues changing fast days but some people enjoy the regularity of having the same days every week (for example, Mondays and Thursdays).
As with everything else in life, listen to your body (ok, tune it out when it tells to eat that choccie now lol!). If you feel unwell and distressed – stop, reassess.

Willow, welcome to AUSSIE DETERMINATION, you are so right in what you say, as long as the trend is down, or even the same, you are not gaining, so 5:2 is working, can you imagine what you would be if you stopped 5:2? Doesn’t even bear thinking!
Have a lovely positive day….YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK … 🙂 CG xxx

You are right Willow, ditto for me too.

    Good morning all AD’s

My gosh, I really cannot keep up with all the posts, trying to catch up at work while I am quiet. My heart goes out to all of you with sad news and all with fantastic news, I will never remember who has what story from 3 days back.

Am going to try to read these posts on a daily basis from now on.

I got down to 80 kilos Friday morning,(had been out for dinner Thurday night as well, calamari and a few chips, and wine of course)so am very happy. This morning back to 81.1 but I am sure I can get rid of that this week. I just cannot get to under 80 as weekends stuff me up.

Just read some more posts and we are all the same it looks like, I always cave in on the weekends, a few bits of cheese and bikkies. I did buy the new flavour of M&M’s on Saturday (toffee apple) just to try – haha, not that great actually but I did polish off half the bag with OH.

Suejen, Gypsy, Uptight,CG, GG, Dogs, CM, Flemish, Fitt and any I have missed, thank you for posting every day, even if I don’t, please remember that I am here and that I love reading all of yours and have lots of laughs to myself.

Have a great FD and week everyone
    xx

DiiP, I’m exactly the same with the weight but don’t over indulge on week ends (just polished my halo) rarely go near or over my TDEE and stick with my fast days but have pretty much plateaued for three months now. I seem to stick around 80k, this morning I weighed at 78.6k and I’m fasting today but this happens so often and just zigzag back to 80k. Still, positive thinking helps, I’m better off now than when I first started 5:2 as we all are, very conscious of food choices and alcohol intake but nothing is making any difference so will soldier on, thinking positive and enjoying this incredible journey. I’m assuming the body is recalculating it’s needs some how and will shed the unwanted fat as it realises it is being fed on a regular basis, it is not going without. It has taken a long time to gradually get up to my highest weight so expect the downturn will be slowish to now the tip of the iceberg has gone for good. So team, stick with it, remember how far you have come and look forward to the future you…. 🙂 CG xxx

Welcome Chippingaway and Willow. My fellow wise AD’s have given you all the tips. I’m a relative newbie too am have found this thread very knowledgable and supportive. Never be afraid of ask questions. It’s only fools who think they know everything.
Yes Flemmy blink also means shine in Afrikaans.
Country Gal as a retired theatre nurse, I agree with Gypsy and would also choose a neurosurgeon above an orthopaedic surgeon. Sadly I don’t know if one gets the choice if one is not a private patient. Of course there are good orthos but let’s face it it’s like carpentry on bones.
Since the arrival of puppy Pepper I have not been able to get out for my usual long walks. I’ve just started taking him for short walks though. I doubt if I’m still not burning +++ calories though as I seem to be constantly on the go.
FD here too. I had a late breakfast and am having Mimi Spencer’s strawberries with Ricotta & Balsamic vinegar for lunch. Lazy me is going to have a Lean Cuisine Asian soup for dinner.
Good news with the Aussies making it to the quarterfinals in the cricket.
    Cheers Doggy

Go Gal. I’m not up to speed with your cryptic clues. Are you on a special theme or are they like crypitc crosswords? I think earlier on I saw mention of ” Little old wine drinking me ” – Dean Martin. Maybe it’s musical? Or was it RED RED WINE – Neil Diamond. Pity that Sav Blanc Dow not roll of the tongue musically that is! Now I’m getting silly.

WOW, the tone of this thread has really evolved recently. It seems people are becoming really good friends. It was always good. What a bonus!
Charlie’s Mum, I like your thinking. Might try Monday, Wednesday this week as I am heading to Melbourne for 4 days of blow out anyway. I am surrounded by genetically wired Formula One fans.
My husband, his brother and sister and most of their children. Personally, I will be shopping!
And joining in with the socialising…..

Willow, well done, I lose at that rate too.

Chippingaway, welcome. I have a 21 year old daughter who is convinced that she is hideously fat and obsessive just as you describe. She is actually tall, a size 10 and stunningly beautiful. It is not just her mother’s eyes saying that. Anybody would say the same and frequently do. And you are so right, so much of socialising, particularly at your age, does revolve around food.
My daughter is fasting with me today. She tends to join me on a Monday after a big weekend.I would post a pic if it wouldn’t invade her privacy.
Anyway, it is true that she puts on weight more easily than most of her friends. One of her besties is actually a model. A lovely girl but too thin and house shares with other models. It is easy to be hard on yourself when you hang out in that world. I tell her that she has body dysmorphia! ( when you look n the mirror and your brain makes you see a different version of yourself) Anorexics often have that apparently. Anyway, she like me, loves good food, so that is one thing I don’t worry about!
I find that fasting has become second nature now but in the early days, definitely keeping busy is the trick. Pick a busy day at work or whatever. I am retired mainly but I don’t even notice if I have a big day out at the shops (NOT grocery shopping!) and am rushing around. Or I take the dog for a bigger walk, even have an afternoon snooze. And I am a reader. I am fasting now and this thread has taken up heaps of my time reading and writing this morning! I don’t have any junk in the house anyway, any day. If you meet friends for coffee, have a long black with a dash or similar. Try not to fast on days of socialising. Anyway, keep busy.
My daughter is a party girl but she also is smart and is doing honours at uni as well as working part time and doing charity work. I think I wrote something on here about her giving blood the other day and then getting sick. I think all this makes it easier for her to manage if she is fasting although she doesn’t fully do 5/2. She maintains I guess. I certainly have seen shots of her on snap chat scoffing burgers in the wee small hours after a night out. Good luck!

Teskat. how wonderful to have a librarian on board. Be prepared to dish out free advice!
OK, well, I love pretty much any. Literary or less literary.
One of my favourite less known books, was The Wet Nurse’s Tale by Erica Eisdorfer. Pretty much all Tracy Chevalier, Diana Gabaldon, The Wilderness series (Donati), Sara Dunant, Geraldine Brooks, Edith Wharton, anything Mitfordy,I know I love Colm Toibin, Niall Williams, Isabel Allende,Gabriel Marquez, Rohinton Mistry, The Poisonwood Bible, Joanne Harris. Just finished Coplin’s The Orchardist and loved it. Hannah Kent,Kate Morton, Jennifer Donnelly. A.S. Byatt has always been a fave and I love anything that has a title like Pomegranate Soup, Robin Maxwell, Kathryn Stockett and many more. I will even read stuff like Sussana Kearsley. Also just read The Invention of Wings and loved it.
One last book that I loved was The Homecoming of Samuel Lake by Jenny Wingfield. And I loved The Luminaries. I also like things that tell me how other people lived like Bryson’s At Home and Judith Flander’s Inside the Victorian Home. Of course there is more but I think I have said enough for one day! All suggestions welcome!
Happy fast day everyone who is!

CG, it could be that your body is holding on to weight as its a bit stressed with all the pain. It will get better soon my dear.
