  • Good Morning,
I hoped on the scales after a fast day and low and behold, there is 900 grams gone….YAY.
Wow CG, that is a great achievement for you. Less than your previous “silly season” weight.

I am back to work this afternoon after 5 days away (not holidays, I only work there 3 days a week). I have to resist all the biscuits and lollies they have there. I have done it before. It is just mind over matter. If, as suggested, I keep up the fluids I will be ok.

    Have a great day everyone… 🙂

    Good Morning ADs
It is so good to see so much activity here.
GG, how did I miss your post about tanned torso. I am sure OH would have said “OH So Sexy!!!”
I am sure this would have been you GG:-
    Relaxing

Ha FC, I really hope I can get there , running on the beach with my shorts will be a dream come true…lol

Foxy….hoping that you enjoy the time with your son. How awesome it will be, I am sure you will make the most of this time.

GG1, wow you are winner for taking healthy snacks to movies. I went to watch Hobbit last week and ended up having popcorn and a chocolate bar. Wish I could get your level of motivation.

Shela, Welcome. As FC said, even I noticed a change as my clothes started to fit so much better after approximately 4 weeks. But I did not measure myself. However clothes fitting better and getting loser was good enough for me to believe that I was losing inches/cms.

And CG….. WooooooHoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 82.5 it is!!!! Bring it on!!!!!!
You have done it over and over again and really an inspiration for all of us here. Very very happy for you. You lost all the weight from silly season plus broke the plateau……. claps claps claps!!!!

Catherine, very happy for you too, you are another example that shows that this WOL works if you have conviction to make it work. Well done and don’t forget to do a happy dance !!!

Fast yesterday was good (450 cals) as I managed to squeeze in lots and lots of water. Hubby did his fast yesterday too and finished at 550 cals. Hubby found it too easy to do (no breakfast or lunch, just morning coffee with coke zero for lunch and most of the cals used for dinner). He enjoyed it as I did all the cooking 🙁 Mushroom soup and 3 eggs omelette with lots of veggies and 5% fat cream cheese was his dinner and he loved it.

I will report his weigh loss (if any 🙂 ) on Saturday as his weigh in days will be on Saturday too.

The only problem is that I am now solely responsible for cooking as he cant measure and cook and he is used to put heaps of butter in anything and everything that he cooks.

Hi team, lots of great results all over the place. CG gold star for you! For those not seeing the results that were hoping for, I always remind myself it is the trend that counts – a gradual downward trend despite little up or down spikes or plateaus. Keep at it.

I fasted yesterday, same food and routine as always – so familiar now I don’t even have to think about it. Before Chrissy I was 88.4, now 88.5. Didn’t fast over the Chrissy/NY period so I think I dodged a bullet 🙂

Wooo Hoo Andrew… Well Done, one fast fixed the damage. So proud of you….

    Good morning ladies and gents,
My tummy bug hasn’t really settled but allowed me to go to the pool this morning. Only stayed for 3/4 hour but feel good for having done it.
My fast day wasn’t too wonderful as I haven’t been A ok for quite a few days but my scales tell me I am going well. I can’t eat very much anyway so hope tomorrow is more on track. It is 9.30 here and still haven’t eaten but have had a glass of water, a cup of tea and a black coffee. Hope this bug disappears soon.
    Have a sunshine day everyone.

Thanks FB 🙂 I think keeping up my walking helped minimise the damage of overindulging in food & drink while not fasting. I still managed 3 or 4 brisk 4km walks each week over the past 2 weeks.

For me the exercise and fasting are 2 parts to the puzzle. I especially like exercising on fast days as it means I eat 600 cals and with a fast 4km walk I burn off 300 cals and (theoretically) it isn’t just glucose being burned.

Welcome new people.. You will find the first few fast days a bit difficult but once you work out a routine, its easy and even enjoyable, esp when you see the benefits. They may not appear immediately, it took me abt 4 weeks before the scales moved so my advice is to stay away from the scales for about a month!

All the cheese talk made me smile.. Cheese is more a trap for me than chocolate! Its why i always include baby boccocini in my fast day lunch.. To satiate my addiction 🙂

Quick question… Anyone got an air fryer? Thoughts on the subject?

    Cheers all!

Hi Robbie sounds a good use of money to me, never used one, saw them advertised when first on the market, then never thought of them again.
Andrew, Men seem to always loose weight faster, not taking your hard work walking away from you but stats say women take so much longer, so, you’ll be at your goal long long before us, congratulations mate, you deserve it with the struggle you have with your time table, you’ll be playing The Thin Man instead of Santa Clause before you know it in your next Play. 😆
Mims, maybe miso instant soup or any soup will help with dehydration as well as neutrition, you need your strength even to swim, but soup with a slice of grain bread broken up in it works really well, even 2 min noodles, not too high in cals but easy to keep down/in… But of course the basic is water but you need solids as you know, good luck
Catherine, take a leaf out of GG1’s book, pack some carrot sticks or celery, bit of capsicum or cucumber, that will beat the “Oh I want a Bikkie'” at work
FB great news on hubby, well done in getting him started, now you have a travel partner for your journey
You are all doing so well, I feel like a Mother hen, proud of her chicks, keep up the good work team, you are all little wonders… 🙂 CG xxx

    Hello ADs.
Great work Andrew. Its gret that you can manage excersie so well while fasting. I try not to do any excersie on fast day as it makes me super hungry.

Second week of fast today. Usually do Monday’s but skipped yesterday so fasting today..!! Been good till now. Went without food till 11:30.. and had a Plum as soon as I started to feel hungry..!!! Lunch was an apple and later a cup of tea..! And still filling satisfied. Being at work helps ..!!! Have some salad with me if I get too hungry later in the day..!! Hoping to loose the 2 Kilo that I have put on during Chrissy… but for now I am staying away from scales..!!! Visualising the moments when I will weigh in in 3 weeks time. I am sure i will do well..!!!

G’day gals and guys, been enjoying reading your posts successes, trials and food tips. It is comforting to know we all go through similar scenarios both good and bad and you don’t feel alone on your journey. I started around dec 10 and have lost 7 kgs, and have found the initial realisation of how many calories I ate staggering not necessarily volume but food choices. If anything this program together with applications and support allows you to make informed choices. As for my first tip on fast days I am limited to 600 cals so Aldi has beef in red wine sauce and mash at 244 cal and beef stroganoff with pasta at 309 cal and 1 miso soup at 20 Cals. Total 577 cals with 2 meals. I also keep up the water and start food later in the day. Hope this helps

Good afternoon all. A Non-fast day today. It’s funny how you get into the fast habit though. Had a huge lettuce salad for lunch … but with lots of cheese so it was probably a 500 cal lunch.

Foxy, we saw The Hobbit (the couple of nerds that we are). The Water Diviner sounds too sad for us. Flemishcurves, I snuck the strawberries in inside my handbag in a plastic container and only opened them when the lights went down.

Fantastic work CG. Your AUSSIE DETERMINATION got you there. I hope to be somewhere around that number around June when I visit my parents in Darwin. Won’t they be surprised, I’m not telling them that I’m doing this WOL.

Welcome to all the newer newbies as well. You’ll find everyone here very encouraging. We know we’ll all fall a few times but we just have to log on here to pick ourselves up again.

A very good afternoon to you all! AND ESPECIALLY TO OUR NEW TEAM MEMBERS …WELCOME.

Several posts ago we were introduced to KONJAC noodles…. I found a great way to have them…… The noodles are 8 cals /100g (pkt is 250 g), miso soup sachet 40 cals per sachet, add your broc & other vegies with some shredded chicken or other meat/fish .. you have a filling soup under 130 cals.

FOXY- the day has finally arrived, and you will have your son with you. He will be soooo very proud of his gorgeous looking MUM. Have a really fabulous time together. I’m so happy for you both!

Have spent the morning out in the boat fishing…. no catches… swimming was the next option ,19 deg water temp… a tad cooler than the island water temp, still refreshing.EVen Oscar (The dog) enjoyed cooling off … I brought a life jacket for him ..he is very cute in it. We have decided on salmon with salad for dinner tonight instead of our catch that was not to be ….. the tourists have caught them all.

Have a great day team. Safe wishes speeding to our SA team ….. GO GAL

Funny reading this, very topical for me!

I was just thinking about air fryers yesterday, but know little about them and today I went hunting for spiralisers at the shops but didn’t buy anything. I figure none of them are going to be that good, either fiddly or another space gobbling gadget. I guess I will stick to a vegetable peeler or something to make zucchini “fettucine”.

Also started to pick up some luscious looking fresh figs and then remembered that I actually only eat them with blue cheese so reluctantly put them back.

And tonight I am making spag bol for everyone and although I am not fasting I am going to have mine for the first time with Konjac fettucine. My daughter says they are pretty bad but I figure if I can add some flavour it might be OK. I’ll let you know tomorrow. I want to have a little ice cream with fruit salad tonight and maybe a G and diet T, so looking to save calories elsewhere. Salmon and salad tomorrow night and then fasting Thursday.

Country gal/ Mother Hen, I ‘m glad you are feeling more positive today.

Hi Go Gal and all, i missed reading about the Konjac noodles, could you please let me know where do i buy them? Also the miso soup, do they sell in coles/woolies or do i get them from Asian supermarket?

HI UP- I have never found the KONJAC to be yak.
I use both .The spag is just as good. All you do is dress them up with your sauce of choice as I,m sure you know .By themselves they are pretty ordinary. In Asia… Bali & Phuket you can buy small plastic bags of it, usually pink or green in colour. You see many of the locals sipping on it with a straw in the plastic bag ,it is pleasant tasting when served sweet and cold……. go gal

Uptight, you ARE a good girl planning this all out. I tried the noodles but felt they tasted like rubber bands no matter what I added with them, but good luck, others like them. Yes well over my downer, thanks to the team. Also, you don’t need the spireler, I got one like a normal spud peeler but with grooves in it, so easy to use, kitchen shops have them, I was going to say like pinking sheers but that’s aging me, but just ask around, take care…CG xx

HI, Thanks for the tip Country Gal. It is funny as I am sitting here reading the posts I was munching on carrot sticks….. 🙂
I think I am going to have to try these KONJAC noodles with the Miso soup. Sounds ok….

I hope you like them, they are available at Safeway, where the organic things are and the Miso with the Asian things and/or soups. Either in a packet like Cup a Soup or sachets in a clear packet, really nice, I love it with spinach in it or some sliced mushrooms. Take care all…. CG xx

AND… Coles & Woolies Depending how each supermarket catorgorise the product it’s in their health food section for the noodies $3-$4 ,the Miso $3 in the Asian section the sachets are called HIKARI MISO, I have found that I pack it in my container and when at work the hunger starts I sip on this, Can be very salty ,just keep diluting until you reach your preferred taste. Add Some tofu ,and you still have a very low cal meal

Pree- There would be more variety in the Asian supermarket.

So the noodles do not have a rubbery texture ,ensure you soak them for 2mins in boiling water…. they then become quite soft and palatable. Hope you enjoy them…GO GAL

Happy Day of the Epiphany, everyone! On this day, tradition in Flanders is for kids to dress up as the 3 wisemen and go around singing for coins and treats (like Halloween). But what I love most about the 3 Kings is that it’s followed by Lost Monday. Tradition is that cafés and bars in Antwerp treat their customers to free sausage rolls. Still done today. Also, we all have giant sausage rolls and Apple balls (apples with sugar/cinnamon incased in pastry) for dinner. So I’m looking forward to our traditional Monday next week 🙂

In Spain, the three wisemen are like Father Christmas, they come to your house and leave treats. So loads of kids woke up excited in Spain today even though Christmas break just ended 🙂

FC that sounds lovely, it’s nice to hear of the different traditions from around the world… Enjoy…CG xx

Well despite my planning, I ended up having regular spaghetti as the packet I had had too much for one serve and I didn’t want to waste it. Annoying having to think about others sometimes!
I will try again soon now that I know!
I know what pinking shears are!
I also used to live in Spain and I love their traditions. There is always a big parade which everyone goes to watch and when the children get home, the 3 kings have delivered the presents to their balconies! At xmas time there is a log that children hit with a stick while singing a song and the log gives presents until it decides not to ! Hard to explain. Tonight they would all be eating a special cake. One person will get a king and one person will get a bean, a bit like money in our pudding! Also dating myself!
So now, I have eaten real spaghetti as well as the G and T and the ice cream and I feel over full.
So much for my great planning! Well, there is always tomorrow!

Uptight, I did the same thing, when I shopped this morning (in Wonthaggi 45 mins away as they have so many shops including Bunnings) I passed a suchi bar when I was leaving, didn’t know what to choose so got 4!, came home had 2 for lunch, talk about yuuuummmm, then had the other 2 for dinner yuuummmmy again, checked cals and have never seen so much indecisions on calorie counts? Still don’t know what I had, but boy I did enjoy them, and told myself they are very healthy, not often you see a fat Japanese! 😉 so tomorrow is another day, cricket just finished so nighty nite… CG xx

    Hi Everyone
I did my fast day yesterday and did what you recommended – not eating until lunchtime. I have to eat something at lunch at work or everyone asks what are you doing? I had a boiled egg and salad. Today I’ve also had a good day and not eaten any junk. I’ll do another fast day on Thursday.
I get the konjac noodles in the gluten free section of the supermarket. They come as ‘fetticini’ spaghetti and even like rice. The trick is to rinse well and smother in sauce! 😉

Still catching up on posts, but in the meantime: I weighed myself in my dreams last night… The scales broke! Think my brain is trying to tell me something….

Wow, where in Spain did you live? I love hearing about people’s Spanish stories. I lived in Barcelona for a while, as a student, to improve my Spanish and learn Catalan. I love Caga Tió, those logs are so quaint with their little barretines. I also love caganers, the little figurines that poo you hide somewhere in your nativity? I have both at my house. People live them.

Actually, in Belgium we have a Three Kings Cake too. Whoever Gers the bean or porcelain statue is the king for the day and gets to (has to) wear the crown. One year, at my da’s choir, my uncle had the bean but didn’t want to wear the crown si he swallowed it. He told us later. We don’t do the almond cake anymore because sometimes 3Kings and Lost Monday are only 2 days apart and that’s kind of overkill.

Merelda, I could not stop laughing when I read your post, you made my day…..CG xxx

Good morning team, have a happy day, your food choices, awareness, and conscious effort is not just helping you with normal weight control, it is making your fast days such a breeze and this is all about your Way Of Eating and Way Of Life. As it becomes such second nature you will wonder how you used to eat so much, how you could fill your plate up so much, how you could have possible eaten all the greasy fatty fried foods in the past, you become so aware of picking. It must be helping you health wise and you will be feeling so much healthier not no mention self pride. 😀 Remember to keep the water going, fast day or not, it is flushing your system, helping your skin, and starving off hunger too. Even 3-4-5 glasses is enough to help. Fast day again tomorrow, come around quickly don’t they? Plan and prepare, get some iced tea happening, in the fridge and ready, cut up some coleslaw just for YOU to have with a hit of protein for work, whatever works for you…even a boiled egg…anything you can just reach for that is ready so no mess ups happen. YOU CAN DO IT, our Friday weigh in is looming, are you excited? You AUSSIE DETERMINATION will be kicking in by now, well and truly after Xmas, so take advantage of it, be guided by it, question choices, good luck team…. CG … 😆

Judy did you notice how missing breakfast was easier than you thought, a lot of us find once you start eating, no matter what time of day, the hunger and yearning starts to kick in, so the longer you can hold off the better. Your lunch sounds perfect. Champignons are also a good option in your salad if you want to conserve calories for dinner… CG xx

I don’t have a lot of time right now but, you guys use the word champignons? I’ve never heard anyone use that word in English.

Hi everyone…thought I would join you all if that’s ok. I only found this website today but decided to try fasting yesterday, so today is my first day. I’m still trying to lose my baby weight (she is 11 months) but it’s just not coming off like it did with my first. I guess I’m busier with less energy this time with being a bit older and working fulltime. I always aim to get up early to exercise, it just doesn’t always happen. I’ve got to do it though, I have so few clothes that fit me (especially after Christmas) and I refuse to buy new clothes. Reading through your posts it sounds like you are all doing well. Do you all weigh in on Fridays?

Hi all. @marelda that is funny.
@countrygal, I love sushi too and isn’t it great that these days you can get it even in country towns! There are many worse things you could have eaten. I think the trick is to avoid the ones with mayonnaise, often in the tuna ones or, my favourite, tempura anything! Lately, in Brisbane I have been able to by ones made with brown rice which allows me to delude myself that it is a health food!
@flemishcurves, yes we do say champignons but as far as I am aware it is only when referring to a tin of them labelled so!
I lived in Spain twice for periods of 6 months at a time, once in Oviedo, fabulous and no tourists and hardly any english speakers and then about 6 years ago, in Barcelona. I don’t really speak spanish and definitely not catalan. Just enough to get by and I have probably forgotten most of that now. I had forgotten about the pooing man! Hilarious! I do have a bean and a king here somewhere! The version I learned was that whoever gets the king wears the crown and whoever gets the bean has to pay for the cake!
    Lost Monday sound interesting!
I do get to travel a bit like this with my husband’s work. In March I will be living in Connecticut for a few months. I am looking forward to that because my 24 year old son studies in New York which will be relatively close. Determined to keep this WOL going no matter where I am!
Whereabouts in Belgium do you live?

It is the very fancy name for button mushrooms, and they are canned. Use fresh as it is best. I am on a fast day today and am looking forward to it as I am feeling much better today. Maybe the gastro bug is now over for good and I can get back to normal.
Removed the last of my Christmas decoys yesterday and just have to pack them away for another year.
    Have a sunshine day.

    Good Morning ADs
    Reldz loved your post.
FC and uptight, thanks for sharing the traditions, really interesting.
Welcome meeeee, you are right the weigh ins are on Friday here. Most of the determinators fast Monday, Thursday and Fridays are weigh in days. Some of us including me and Andrew, like to report our weigh ins on Saturday. Really hoping that this WOL / WOE gets you where you want to be both health wise and for loosing weight.
Another hot day here in Melbourne. So, I have decided to fast and resort back to my 4:3 routine. I fasted Monday, another fast today, followed by Friday.

I don’t plan to eat anything until dinner apart from my morning cappuccino which keeps me full until lunch time, then chilled coke zero to beat those hunger pangs and heat for lunch. And plan is to have my favorite mushroom soup with some roasted veggies for dinner.
So, thats my fast day planned, Bring it On!!!

    Hi Everyone,
I did love your dream Marelda. Who knows what they mean. We sometime have the weirdest thoughts and experiences when we are asleep.
County Girl-I too, love sushi, and always went for it as a healthy lunch while I am in the shopping centre. I stopped eating it at one stage because I found out the sugar content is really high in the actual rice to make it sticky and yummy. It still tastes great though and every now and then I indulge.
I did, however, seem to forget about the sugar content in chocolates and lollies and biscuits and cakes, and the occasional bowl of ice-cream……. 🙂
I am having a fast day today as tomorrow I am at home all day studying. I like to nibble while studying. I am at work tonight so should be able to keep myself occupied enough to stay away from the biscuits…..
    Have a great day everyone…. 🙂

Hey Catherine, we are fasting buddies today 🙂

    Yay…..I am not alone….. 🙂
Hope you enjoyed your Cappuccino.. I have had a cup of tea and a hot water and lemon juice.

@Meralda- That is funny Meralda.. but I dreamt something similar… though the scales didnt break.. I remember dreaming of getting really upset that I have put on so much.. 🙂 !!!
@CG- Thanks for encoraging words Countrygal. it helps just to read your posts and I get encourged..!! Makes me think it is not as hard as I have made it..!! I can do it..!!
@Meeee- Welcome Meeee..!! I am the same.. trying to loose the weight put on with my 2 kids…!! busy life, less energy, working fulltime.., , while caring for family forgot to care about self..!! But not anymore..!! I have fasted yesterday and will be doing it again tomorrow..!! This group is awesome and I find so much of encouragement, knowing that I am not alone.. and reading the posts make me realise, i can do it..!!! I might stumble upon initially… but I will get there..!! More so AD friends r here for support…!! I am sure you will enjoy your journey as much as I do..!! Good luck..!!

Hi Catherine and FB, I am fasting today too 🙂
Have only had an iced tea so far today but will have Mini Pancakes with Smoked Salmon – 150 Cal(from the Kindle ebook 5:2 Diet Dr Michael Ericsson) for lunch and a Lean Cuisine – 254 cal for Dinner and a fruit sorbet made with frozen banana and rockmelon afterwards. I am working today from 1 – 5.30 PM so should be okay with iced tea all day.

Amazing GG1, your day is well planned out. As you mentioned Kindle, I downloaded a free e book called “Clean food diet by Jonathan Vine”. It has heaps of recipes (vegetarian though) with calorie count and I love it.
May be if anyone wants to download it while its free on Kindle. Enjoy!!!

Just a quick drop in, I weighed this morning, back to 83.4 went to my chiro, did a bit of Aldi shopping, came home stripped off, awfully hot today, before putting a “shift/moo moo” on reweighed and guess what… 82.4 ??? Go figure, but I’m a happy little vegemite, was thinking, there goes future suchi which I’ve decided is my new addiction and as luck has it, we have a suchi bar recently opened locally, so don’t dispair, reweigh before eating later in the morning, I think sometimes our scales play “silly buggers” with us. Good luck with your fasting today girls….enjoy 🙂 …CG xx

Hey CG, this means that you retain water in the mornings when you get up. I am the same, this is the reason that my weigh in day is Saturday, which is a day off and I weigh myself approx 3-4 hours after I wake up. If I weigh myself first thing in morning, I come up at least 700 grams to a kilo over. Water is good but water retention…. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

FB, now that makes perfect sence, thank you, another lesson learnt, I tend to weigh after my cappuccino, before my shower, maybe I should hold off till closer to lunch time even though I have a cappuccino on board, it will be there anyway each time I weigh. Njoy your fast…. 🙂 CG .. Xxx

Hello Meeeee, I am also quite new and find the posts very interesting. I weigh on Fridays but it is a matter of choice, so long as it is weekly. In fact you don’t have to weigh in at all so long as my your measurements are reducing……
Like everyone, I too have a Hangup, WINE. I just can’t have it and lose weight. One glass is never enough when my buddy and I get together. Sounds bad for a 66 y/o. White wine is not on my fast days.
Have fun Meeeee and hope to hear your good news soon.
    Sunshine and happiness.

Hi GG1 and FB. Hope the fasting is going well for you.
I had to go to the shops and while there found the konjac noodles. I have just had the first meal for my fast day. 1 serve konjac noodles, 1 sheet seaweed, spinach, mushroom and 100grms chicken with miso soup. OMG, so filling and yummy.
I have Light’n’easy meals here that are just on 250cal each so will take on of them to work and keep drinking sparkling and still water and maybe a cup of tea. I finish work at 10:30 tonight so will go to bed when I get home. (That is a bit of a danger time for me. Sitting on the lounge to wind down after a big night at work)…. 🙂

I think that the timing of the weight-in doesn’t matter, as long as you are consistent. I weigh first thing – never thought about water retention, but have a tumbler of water as soon as I hop off the scales.

I think I will agree with Barata on the weigh in issue. I realise that there are some times we weigh more than other times but as long as all the circumstances are the same the weight loss should be a true measure. Having said that, a womans body is a very strange thing and if it decides that it wants to be heavier than it actually is, it somehow, magically does it. Go Figure!!!!

Sorry, Catherine, figuring that one out is too hard (still on holiday, just finished watching a great game of cricket, well done the Black Caps beating Sri Lanka).

I tried to add a smiley there, but haven’t got the hang of it yet!

Agree with you Catherine and Barata, however I have a serious issue of water retention. My face is all puffed up most of the mornings, as the day passes it gets normal. The amount of water that I retain can differ each day, so the weight gain/loss.
I have been like this for ages and doctors do not have an answer why and all kidney tests came out fine too (thankfully)
So, if I weigh myself in mornings, the weight can be very very deceptive. When I am du for aunt flo, I gain water weight like crazy upto 2 kgs. My doctor said that I am not the only one with this issue as water retention is a very common issue in women, can be PMS, menopause or even anxiety. Funny, but female bodies are designed to handle a lot of things……. 🙂 Barata… just use these signs without space and you will get a smiley when you submit your post 🙂 : – )

BTW Catherine, I like your lunch menu, very inviting on a fast day 🙂

And Mimsnewworld, I am like you. One glass is not enough when I am out with friends. However in last three months, I have had atleast 6 outings where I watered down Wine like crazy, just need to watch out next day…. As CG says this WOL is very forgiving. I have found myself not restricting any food groups at all during last three months and thats why it is not a diet but WOE now (well, hopefully)

PS: Warning: I am not promoting to drink heaps of alcohol in any ways. Drinking alcohol may be injurious to health.

    😉 😉 😉
