Well gang it’s 8.20pm and I’ve made it to here so should manage with just my Jarrah hot choc to go before bedtime…it might be an early night though. the tummy is rumbling something terrible! But I’m more determined than that. So will be able to tumble into bed (well not literally) and have a smile of success on my face. Truly didn’t think I would make it! Talk tomorrow & weigh-in too. suejen XXXX
PH, itβs unanimous, we love the name Ruth! Her other gran sounds like a dear, and what a blessing to have kind inlaws. We hear so often of the other kind.
CG thank you for the sweet pat on the back, it felt good π I am rested AND 2 lbs down, though it’s “post hunger-games” week so I know the drill there. But let the control games begin! I hope your pulled muscles are feeling better after sleep β yes I can just see you kicking that Irish jig like a Rockette. Minor setback and all worth it if you are regaining strength.
Barb thatβs great that you have the exercise bike β my OH canβt jog or walk far either and thatβs what he likes too. It’s nice to have an indoor exercise option regardless, with our weird weather. Haha “legend in her own lunch-box” – good one.
SJ you really are a legend, to host a lunch and just have the salad. Top honors for conquering a “restaurant FDβ! Iβm making the eggplants today, come hell or high water – will just enjoy them for late lunch if OH doesnβt want any. He has a slightly tender system, but he’s a pretty good sport otherwise, so I will let the βeggplant issueβ slide.
Annie, good for you for going alone to the theater, I have done it several times when I just didnβt feel like begging OH. It always feels like a treat to choose what I want to do without trying to please anyone else. Your home sounds divine, and I can picture the walk to the fishmarket…always loved the water, and never lived near it. Yet.
Fit, great point about Doggyβs outfit β the top half will be on display, just like news anchors! Dawg are you up for the salon makeup? That would be a treat β I need some salon help but afraid to go back to my local βscalperβ β I am starting to look like a hedgehog, though. The weather near you both (Ireland and Tassie) sounds crazy β so much rain! I hope the dunderheads will get their heads out of the sand (or other places!!) and agree that something could be done to stem the change. Oh, Fit – may have a chance to get back to Ireland in early summer. Fingers crossed xx
Now off I go to do some eggplant wrestling — I have the day off as no classes AND I managed to refuse two requests for meetings today. xxx
Jade, well done on the 2lbs down…..woohoo! That would be wonderful if you make it to Ireland later in the year. What month, do you think? It would be brilliant to meet up, maybe Milena could hop across from Scotland and join us for a mini WTFπ Glad you enjoyed SJ’s recipe and hope you found the recipe thread, Barb.
I’ve just had a nightmare journey home from a shopping mall about half an hour from us…..there was an enormous traffic jam, don’t know why, it took 45 minutes to get out of the car park alone! I left home at 12.30 to go and do the chores and errands for my sister and then went on to the mall and finally got home at 6.30pm! My poor dog had her four paws crossed waiting for me to get home and let her out!
Hey Fit – sorry about the traffic frustration, I know how annoying that is after a busy day. Poor little puppy, no doubt she feels all better now and you too with a nice chilled glass of chardonnay maybe? I confess I did have a few drops of the red last night and it tasted quite fine. The Ireland trip could happen late May early June, but so far all very tentative so I’m trying not to hope too hard and jinx it. But I just got so excited I had to share π
Found it again SJ thanks. I can just see your poor puppy with his paws crossed FIT. I have doggy doors on the side and back of our house so don’t worry too much if I get caught up. I just worry if I am late home for her dinner. Jade I think I might have another shot on my stationary bike today. I remember when I first got it I thought I would do just 20-30 mInutes…hahahaha, after 5 minutes I was ready to get off. That really hasn’t changed, I can do 10 minutes at a time now but that’s it. Still it’s better than nothing.
CG looking for the recipe thread I came across an old thread from September, 2014. How much have you lost since then and have you heard anything from Kvetina, sounded like she was getting over cancer, poor thing. Very interesting reading, much the same as now in terms of subject matters and the enthusiasm is still strong.
Have a good day/evening all. Barb xxx
That would be brilliant, Jade….I’ll try not to jinx it either but good to know I’ll still be in Ireland. We’ll be heading to France at the end of June. I’m afraid I abandoned the idea of healthy cooking and just stuck a pizza in the oven! Oh dear! Better not open a bottle of wine as well…..especially as I’m on my own. Hope you’re putting your feet up, I used to love Friday evenings. Hope you don’t have too much prep to do over the weekend and well done on saying no to those meetings…..it’s important to value and look after yourself xx
Wow CG that’s fantastic. I realise we don’t chase each other up but I was just concerned for her that’s all. Hope you have a good weigh in today. You have lost nearly half a person, how wonderful is that!! I understand about the cost of clothing and I took a Craftsy class on altering ready to wear for that reason although I am yet to alter anything. Fingers crossed I will get that chance in the not too distant future.
CG, you’re not a nutter at all….of if you are, so am I! I’ve been doing alot of talking to Molly this week and to myself as well. It feels so strange to be on my own so much as my OH works from home so we spend huge amounts of time together.
Glad to hear the aches and pains have settled down, I had to laugh at you doing a roll call of your aches every morning….you’re a hoot! π Have a great day and best of luck with the weigh in xx
Doing the happy dance this morning as 1.5kg dropped off after yesterdays fast.I weighed myself twice as i could not believe the figure. I was 124.4 on Sunday before i started this lifestyle and two fasts later, starting only on Wednesday I am at 121.8. Having lost nothing at all before that since 14th Jan (so a plateau from 14/1 – 26/1 while keeping on task with my calories and exercise and water)I am stoked and feel that 5:2 has brought all my previous good work actually onto the scales. Whatever it is, the two fasts certainly have done a lot. Yesterday was not so hard as the fast on Wednesday, esp in the evening. I will try to snack less after dinner from now on as on NFDs i tend to have say 300 calories for brekkie, 400 for lunch and 420 for dinner and then say 300-400 for snacks throughout the day.
This morning i tried to make ‘hash browns’ by grating cauliflower and adding onion garlic and an egg and cooking it like a pancake. The darn thing stuck on the pan so the hash browns were pretty hashed but still tasty. I had them with smoked salmon and 10g of skinny tatziki. Very yummy.
CG you have done brilliantly. There is nothing that feels better than loose pants. Mine were feeling loose on Thursday as well. I kept pulling the loose material on my behind which is where they were the most loose.
On WW in 2005 I lost 43kg and got down to 105 i think. I just did WW online as i hate meetings. The online forum was like this, full of helpful and supportive people. What did me in was switching from counting points to the diet where you can eat as much as you like of certain foods as long as you stop when you feel full. Well i dont feel full ever. Gradually i slipped away but managed to keep the weight off for many years. Its only over the last 3 yrs i have gradually put much of it on again, and probably 15kg of it came back over the last year when i have been sick.
Anyway for those on fast, good luck and stay strong. For those of us who are at Saturday, have a good weekend.
Anne x
Well done AA. What a wonderful high you must be on now. Good thing about this lifestyle change, you can be on a high for as long as you like πππππ
FIT & CG I think most of us can claim being nutty. I often ask my Molly what are we having for dinner or do these pants make my bum look big. I also suggested to her yesterday that she sits and watches me sew so often and for many years, she ought get off her behind and help me!!! No reply, just a sigh and back to throwing out the zeds. What a life!! barb xx
Greetings all. Once again there are a lots of posts to read through, each one interesting.
CG I hope your pulled groin muscle is in the mend. Re the typo. No my dear it’s healthy not wealthy, unfortunately! Especially since this latest financial downturn. It’s playing havoc with self funded superannuation types like OH & I
Thanks to all those who have me tips on wearing slacks or tights. I’m going to go for tailored slacks and as so many of you say, I will be sitting down most of the time. We are going to be staying with my sister in law and she’s a hairdresser. She’s more of the purple rinse brigade but I will get her to do my hair for me. No purple rinses though. I plan to have some more highlights done before we go as I’m very happy with my new hairdresser. I will probably just do my own makeup. At my age I’m very aware of not looking like mutton dressed up as lamb.
Yes well last night OH & I sat down to watch the tennis and bugger me if we didn’t have a power outage. He took himself off to bed and I sat and listened to an audiobook on my iPad. One can’t blame anyone as we have so many trees in this state and in bad weather they are known to fall across powerlines.
All the talk about dodgy doors brings back a very fond memory of one of my many beloved Golden Retrievers who has long since gone to doggy heaven. When we first got Simba we had a cat flap as we had two cats. He quickly learned from the cats that he could get in and out the house through said cat flap. Well needless to say as he got bigger he could no longer fit through it. To the day he died, some 12 years later, he still used to try and get through it by tapping it with his paw. What a lovely gentle giant he was.
SJ the Aubergine dish was so yummy. I zapped the Aubergine in the microwave instead of frying them. I’ve always found that they tend to absorb a lot of oil when frying. Mind you , I’m no great cook
XX Doggy
AA, I’m absolutely thrilled for you. This is the start of a wonderful journey, one we’re all on, no matter how much or how little we have to lose, because this is now our lifestyle and how we want to live healthily and happily for the rest of our lives. As CG has said and can prove, by this time next year you won’t believe how much you have lost just by sticking with the plan. Yes there will be times when the losses slow down or plateau, but just keep going and it will move again. It’s not a diet, you can’t fail, you do it in your own time and we’re all here to help you.
CG and Barb, I think there’s a special part of the madhouse reserved for dog lovers but we’ll be in good company! π
Hi Team well I’m still stuck at 70.0 for my weigh-in this morning. So frustrating to try so hard and not get back down to my best weight which I reached on 22/10/2015! Then I zigzagged between high 69’s and 70’s up till Christmas. And the New Year has seen me wandering around the 71’s and 72’s. Now my weight has slowly come back down and I lost .3kg on last week’s weight (second lost….is there such a thing?!) but that elusive 69 is nowhere to be seen. Too disheartened to do another fast today which I had planned if I didn’t make it back to the 69’s. We’ll just wait till next week & give it another try!! That’s such a long plateau but if I stick to my TDEE as I’m doing now I WILL make it. Had my whinge now onto brighter stuff π
AA WOOHOO to a 1.5kg loss!! Well done & stick at it. That weight is going to fall off you. Online support & especially the AD forum is just great for you…and all of us!
CG you are a nutter but a delightful one I must say!! So glad your groin has settled as you found with your morning roll call!
Ooh Fit 45 mins to get out of a car park?! This can’t be in your small village surely? Your poor doggie.
Jade YEAH 2 lbs down and counting eh?!! Yeah for you & so glad you made & loved the eggplant recipe. Yep pretty hard to stop at just one of those little rolls! VERY tasty.
OK onto anther NFD with counting my TDEE & making sure of portion control. It’s a bit wet and miserable looking outside so might be an inside day of reading & TV later on. Will enjoy some foods that I love and maybe a treat if it works into my TDEE. But hey…we can always manage that if we try hard enough!! Avagoodonemate to all my aussie and honoroary aussie friends. Oh by the way…..you HAVE to be able to say that with a strong aussie accent and slur all the words together to be counted as an aussie determinator !! LOL suejen XXXX
SJ, decided to treat myself to a peach schnapps, so I might be slurring perfectly in the next few minutes! π Never mind about the weigh in, the next loss is just around the corner. You’re doing all the right things, your system just hasn’t caught up yet! I still haven’t got back to where I was on Christmas Eve before all the madness began…..it’s a bummer but it’s also my own fault. I got myself into this and I’m going to get myself out of it! Come on, girl…..you get to 69 and I get another kg off …..we can do this! ππͺβ
I have now got back on track and the weight is slowly coming off again. Now down to 61kgs. We haven’t had any of the extreme weather here there is no rain in sight but the days have cooled off. This will give me a chance to catch up on the garden. I deadheaded some lavenders yesterday and woke up in the middle of the night with itching arms. So next time I will have to wear long sleeve tops to prevent that again. This meant that I slept in quite late and feel awful. So will just be plodding along today getting down what I can.
I registered today so I can post my little story.
I have never had a good exercise regime. the fittest I ever got was in my early 40s when I got into running – but it took a lot of running to keep a good physique and I would get very hungry, and easily over-indulge.
Fast forward to 50 yo: running is a distant memory and my doc tells me I have a fatty liver (non alcoholic), something I started seeing in the mirror! and the only cure is to lose weight.
I also think I had borderline metabolic syndrome: low energy, naps, snoring, waking feeling bad, attraction to high glycemic foods like bread and so on. And my weight had crept up to 86kg, which for 5″10 is about 20 lbs too much. Being moderately overweight felt like it was killing me and they don’t call it a syndrome for nothing: no energy for excercise means faster weight gain.
Another 3 years of pretending to deal with this one day “soon” and a strong memory of watching the original 5:2 documentary but not acting on it, and more time passes. then my friend who looks visibly trimmer each month tells me to try intermittent fasting as it works for him.
Early December last year I try : and immediately it suits me. Never one to really obsess over breakfast I find it easy to just not eat for a day in fact I don’t bother with 500 or 600 calories I just stave off the worst 4pm pangs with some almonds or something and the fast day total is probably 200 calories, or even less. To me 500 or less mayaswell be zero: it’s almost easier, as 500 awakens my appetite more.
The real eye opener is the day after a fast day: I am deeply appreciative and satisfied with less food than I would normally eat pre 5:2. It also makes snacks stand out more and breaks those daily habits like just a “bit” of ice cream with Netflix.
Side effects: went skiing last week and notice I can feel the cold more on a fast day.
Did a strenuous half day rock scramble bush walk and found a bit more weakness in my legs. I imagine I am losing a bit of muscle with the fat.
Dreams of food on fast day night.
Snoring: gone
Naps: gone
Waking up with a bad taste in my mouth: gone
Weight: a steady drop.
I am down to 79kg now which is a 7kg (16lb) drop in 8 weeks. I like to think of how I was wearing a 7kg backpack all day.
The loss is steady, and having survived an overseas holiday, Christmas and new year without cheating, continuing should be easier still.
I have not had my liver or blood work redone yet but I hope to do that mid year, but my body is telling me everything is working much better than it was, so i reckon my liver is now metabolising the fat of two decades.
Oh also since I have had very high cholestorol my entire life, doc after doc suggested statins, so last year, fearing a sudden heart attack, i paid for a heart artery calcium scan and got a score of .. zero. So if the 5/2 diet reduces my cholestorol that’s ok but I am not so fixated on that.
I read recently in medical news that calories counting is NOT simple: calorie databases are often inaccurate, as are food labels, it just takes an enthusiastic chef or mis-estimated dish to fool oneself, and people can use calori from the same foods differently depending on whether they are eaten over a short burst or spread out. At least for me, accurate calorie counting would be too hard!
Anyway at least for my situation this thing is working out great. I hope middle aged males who spend or spent too much time at a desk consider trying it.
Whoops
I guess I posted as it seemed less intrusive than creating a new topic, and wanted to encourage my own plans to continue, and being an Aussie it appeared about the right place to start.
my apologies if the focus of the topic is a bit different. I have lurked for a while I should probably lurk some more!
Hi Jellies and well done on the 5:2 success!
Well ladies I see I’m in good company, as I’ve also been into the spirits tonight, little miss just one wine please has had TWO wines and an Irish coffee. Oh dear. Now I’m trying my best pre-emptive anti-hangover cures before going to bed, drinking lots of water and having a big slice of wholegrain bread. But it was too much fun at the pub tonight with our neighbors who are doing some home renovation – always hilarious to hear someone else’s misadventures in home repair. OH was delighted that, for a change, I wasn’t trying to tug him home at 8 p.m. I am sure I will pay for this tomorrow.
SJ and CG, oh do I hear you, as happy as I am to be down 2 lbs I’m still not back to my “best ever” before Thanksgiving, 2 months ago. Though like everyone, I guess it could be worse – and in many years before 5:2 it was a LOT worse. We will all get there! So “avagoodonemate” all you lovely Aussies. xxxx
Afternoon all, or whatever time of the day or night it is for you. Just having my first rest of the day and would you believe that we are on page 224.? Cannot believe the amount of great interesting posts.
Well done to everyone who have been so great with the fast days. Wow SJ I don’t I could ever do what you did. Amazing ..very impressive and Annie great result. You. must feel so good. Also Barb.. You are both doing great πππ€πππ. love the doggie stories from all of you nutters! That eggplant recipe must be great..EVERYONE is raving About it. Is it on the recipe thread SJ?
. Can’t post long today as on a roll. D came around for dinner last night and we had a lovely time then this morning did a Job for me I have been meaning to do for ages. Gathered together all of my photo albums etc and made room for them in one of the bookcases upstairs. We have a small house and not much room for stuff but amazing what a bit of rearranging can do. After that we started rearranging my office space and so I am now cleaning all of the drawers of my filing cabinets and getting rid of stuff from years ago that is no longer relevant. Talk about starting something. I’ve finally got the cleaning bug that most of you have been bitten with recently. So must make hay while the sun shines and get as much done as possible before the bug leaves me. . Also have been receiving numerous photos of Ruthie. Of course she is the most beautiful baby in the world…..having a great day.
So to all of my Aussie Determination pals..keep up the great work and have a great day. ππππππ«ππΎπ·π§ππ©ππΎππ»ππβ€οΈππππ
JELLIES WELCOME TO THE AD TEAM.You are doing really well and will continue to do so with our awesome support and encouragement.
I have had a great loss over the past year ,as so many of the team have and are sill doing.Starting weight was 83kgs,now I zig zag (the term most of us are using ) from 75 to my lowest of 71kgs.There are times when I am stuck on 75kgs for months….then it just goes.I find if I am stressed My weight does not move.
Very hot on the NSW coast today. I am going to the beach after I post.
My morning started off with my OH in severe pain from his back. Spent most of the am at the Dr’s……xrays next week. He is now asleep on medication.
BARB – I tried with no avail to contact KEVTIVA. She was such a positive lady who was suffering advanced breast cancer…. do young and soooo brave going through chemotherapy and the debilitating effects it entails. CG AND I had just began to form our friendship off the thread and KEVTINA was thinking of ways thar we could contact each other …..she then vanished. I think of her often as I do all our post team. Like CG…. I wish them well and hope that 5hey found our small but enthusiastic group helpful.Iespecially miss our FOXYCOXY AND DOIN IT INPARADISE.
COME BACK GALS WHEN YOU WANT .BEST WISHES.
I AM OFF FOR THAT SWIM……..πππ……GO GALXXXXX
I know you would have GG. Amazing person trying to lose weight when she was obviously suffering. Thanks for your reply.
Another subject, I am struggling to do my own quilting. Needles breaking, cotton tangling etc. now I know why it costs so much to have your quilt quilted!!!
Enjoy your swim, I wish I was that enthusiastic ππ
Welcome Jellies and well done. I like your backpack analogy. When i lost weight in the past and got to 32kg i used to think i lost the full weight of my golden retriever. I used to look at her and think of carrying her around all day!! ouch! When i lost 14kg i noticed that the bag of dog food weighed that amount so i took a pic of me carrying it and it was heavy. Dont lurk. Post whatever you want. I am new this week but have found everyone so supportive. Where in Oz do you live?
GL: Glad you are on track and posting.
I have a question for people who have been on 5:2 longer than me which is everyone! After my FD yesterday i am not hungry today. I thought i would be ravenous but i am not. I had a light brekkie of just over 200 calories then half a salmon sandwich for lunch but forced myself to eat it as i had to take my meds. I had a drink which was just over 100 calories. It was 2teaspoons of nutriway powder which apparently equated to 14 serves of veg plus cacao and i had it with skim milk and ice. Im having 45g of sugar free chocolate with my cuppa just to get up my calories…hahaha!
I will have fish and veg for dinner as i am having someone over but i will probs force myself to eat that too. I have been counting calories for months now and always feel hungry. Do others experience this when doing 5:2 or am i weird.
Thanks
Anne
Thanks SJ. Will ghave to give it a try. Back not liking all of my cleaning so have decided I need to give it a rest for a while. Such a hot day today we have been inside with the air con on. Love to be going for a swim with you GG. Should head down to the pool but can’t be bothered. The bed is so much more inviting….have had such a great day getting rid of stuff…good for the soul.
I did feel like brekkie but did not really need lunch which is why i had half a sandwich but i did this to take my meds. I would not bother forcing myself to eat dinner but i have a guest coming so have to eat something. Luckily i get to cook so it will be steamed fish and veg. I will just have a small portion. I did enjoy the sugar free chocolate with my cuppa (200 cals) but with that and the dinner to come i am still only at 944 calories. I dont intend to eat the full amount of calories for the day and will end up at around 1000 as i plan watermelon and strawberries for our dessert. 1000 is low for my weight. I am tracking at 1500 a day normally although I am supposed to do over 2000 according to the calculations.
I thought we were supposed to eat our full allowance on non fast days??? I am happy not to do this but dont want to stuff up if i am supposed to. I am new to all of this.
Anne
