PH – I love that rug. It is so gorgeous. I am sure it will be treasured.
JL – It is beautiful here. Lots of walks, rainforest to explore and mountains to look at.
SJ – Love the sound of that recipe. I am going to add that to my Pinterest board. Especially love the 5 minutes preparation time.
Lovely day here today. Had fun making a memory wire bracelet with step grandchild.
Tomorrow is FD number 2.
Well I have had the easiest fast day ever. πππ Did not feel hungry all day. Had nothing to eat or drink until we took the van over and a friend of my daughters, whom I have a very soft spot for, met me at the door with a gin and Tonic and a great big hug.πΈπΈπΈ He is a lovely fellow and shared a house with her for about 8 years in the desert, with no romantic attachment. Like a brother to her and a son to me. Him and his partner and Bub are here for a few days. Anyway had to drink it with him and came home to dinner and still only ended up with 398 cals. STOKED,!! πππππ best ever result.
I have not weighed myself since the 16th December so trying to decide if I’ll have another semi fast day tomorrow and weigh Friday or just bite the bullet and weigh myself tomorrow. Scared to get on the scales in case I have blown it over Christmas. I’m not as fearless as most of you. Don’t want to see the 100 Again.
SJ that is a beautiful post ..the heart of words. You will soon lose those pesky kgs now that you are back in your own environment. Well done for getting a list together. It will certainly be a good tool to assist me which remembering who is who. Getting confused now but absolutely love all the Newby’s.
Thanks for the offer of help with the photo posting. I have just re-read my post and it was very abrupt. Sorry my friend My comment was just about Me. I have now mastered uploads on my laptop and If you have any tips on how to upload from an iPad it would be very appreciated. I have you to thank for posting for me in the past.
Bert. I’m with CG ..way to go allowing yourself to have the treats. ππ. That’s what makes this way of life possible for the long term. We really don’t have to deny ourselves anything in moderation. π§π·πΎπ¦
Fit understand the need for chokkiesπ«π« after dropping off D to go back to uni. Tomorrow is another day, or for you that is now and you will be waking up to another day very soon. Hope the weather is being a little kinder to you.
Noots, GG .. Hope the rain is easing for you and everyone else the heavens are opening up on..βοΈπ§βοΈπ§βοΈπ§π¦
CG. I have the rug more than half stitched together now and will need to get back at it so it is ready to take with me to Tas. Also have a few things to make but don’t seem to be able to get myself back into full swing of things.. Still in holiday mode. Think I’ll give myself another week before I give up on the lazy life. Tried to watch Tomic Play tonightπΎπΎ but was going to sleep in the chair. Hope he wins..I think he is finally growing up.
Well off to the land of nod π€π€π€ nite nite Gyps, Up, Doggy, Barb, Jade, Milena and anyone else I have forgotten to mention in this post. Can’t wait for the list to be completed so I don’t forget anyone, mind you it is always probably going to happen with the aging process rolling along its merry way.πππ
PH no offence taken at all! I was just trying to establish exactly what the problem was as a few of us have mentioned this. But…..can’t help you at all with an iPad & I even have troubles with our laptop & usually just go back to the PC. Your rug looks beautiful….just love the colours & so will your GD. Both of my older GD’s wear either pink or purple if given the choice – nothing else, unless it’s all in the wash! Gosh PH you are doing so well with FD’s I just can’t believe it. I’ve lasted till 4.15 but that’s about it. And to manage a gin & tonic & dinner AND still be under is pure magic!! Take my hat off to you girl. sj XX
I’ve had a very lazy day been on the computer a lot looking up recipes for tomatoes & apricots – roasted the apricots with a little brown sugar cardamon & orange juice. They are heavenly. Will have just a few with either cream or ice cream or more likely greek yoghurt. Tomato cooking starts tomorrow. Have to go do a check now of what I have left over from last year to establish what’s needed. suejen XXXX
PS Don’t forget to tell me where you’re from etc if you’re new so I can add you to the OFFICIAL LIST OF DETERMINED AUSSIES OR HONORARY AUSSIES READY TO BATTLE THE KILOS WITH US THIS YEAR! See my previous post if you’re not sure.
Hi All!
Well, I’ve given myself an uphill battle to be even the same as I was at last week’s weigh-in. I’ll probably be over thanks to last night’s blowout. Never mind, I’m not hopping on the self-pity train….just stating the facts. I might try a semi-fast today and then proper fast as usual tomorrow (Thurs) and see if I can get back close to where I was last week.
Loving all the posts but finding it hard to keep up; the old memory is getting worse and worse – even a goldfish would probably do better than me at the moment! π
SJ – great job on getting everyone to post their details; that should help me keep track. Also loved the inspirational heart…says it all really xxxx
PH – what a gorgeous rug, you are very talented and it will be a treasured possession for many years to come, I’m sure. Loved the photo too, looks like a very glamorous group indeed! Brilliant FD and fab times with friends – you are an expert at this wol! π
CG – what a wonderful end to a perfect day and also sounds like you made some lovely additions to your wardrobe. Woohooo!! I haven’t bothered going near the sales because I know I’m a few kg up on where I want to be so there’s no point trying clothes on now. I also try to put on some make-up every day because I always did for work and I don’t want to feel like I’m letting myself go just because I retired.
Genie – you are making lovely memories with your family….enjoy it all π
Jade – I don’t think you could ever offend us; we already know you too well for that. I also have some misunderstandings due to the language barrier….we all speak English, but there’s still lots of scope for getting it wrong!! We’ve had lots of laughs about it already…so don’t worry!
Bert, Barb, Noots, Up, Milena, Gyps – hope you are all safe and well and that fasting/pc are going well for everyone; whichever you are doing. I’m just about to get stuck into taking down all the decoration etc; it’s always a bit sad π But at least, I’m not going back to work which I would usually be doing today!! Sorry, that wasn’t meant to come across as gloating π³ Enjoy your day/evening/night!!! π Xxxxx
Morning all, and good evening.
Oops, its nearly midday and Im still in bed, I expect most of you are. Loking forward to a Irish day of leisure, Fit!
Not found my rythm yet, plan was a full fast tomorrow, after making enough lasagne on Moday for two days, I like to make the ragu the day before. But I forgot the mince, so off to get some now. Cant get away with not making any as my boy is reminding me oh every five minutes?
We still have our lodger, seriously thinking of buying another bed, son is sleeping on the settee. Been there since New Years Eve, didnt even think to get into my bed while we were away. Probabky the reason he is a grumpy sod at the moment.
And I think the good feeling he had lending his computer money is fading a tad, judging from the fact he is swearing rather alot at his old computer!!!!
Worked out why my internet is a bit slow, they have EIGHT appliances connected to the wifi between them!
Must be joyous when they leave the nest!!!!
Probably not helped that both are recovering from recent ops, so neither working. But they are loves, most of the time.
So will just have to go easy over the weekend and get back to basic 5:2 come Monday.
Really looking forward to it actually – and frankly amazed that we are all feeling like this. Is it that we feel we are more accountable because we are on this forum? Or just that it s workable, cos its a way of life and not a diet? Both I suppose.
Gyp – well done getting off that plateau – I find the plateaus the difficult thing to deal with, you give us all hope!!!!
travel hopefully ……..

Just added my name to the list. Question: I am using MFP and it won’t record any progress if I am under 1000 cals/day. Does it have a feature somewhere that will calculate even on a FD? It lists the calorie intake but doesn’t give you an I overall comment like it does when you hit the 1200 mark. I have stuffed myself today and still didn’t make the 1000 cals? Love the boiled eggs for lunch. OH brought home some low GI bread from bakers delight today…..boy was that yard to resist!!!
Love reading all your notes about what you are up to. Finished the dress GD wanted, now she has another lined up. I hope the enthusiasm sticks with her & she decides who likes sewing.
Good morning!
First, I like to thank everyone for the kind words, although, I didn’t have the guilt of yesterday’s fine little pastry, to have you all saying encouraging words about, made it even better.
Finding myself in a bit of a pickle this morning. I took today off as I have booked some apts for Sat. I don’t really mind working Sat. But there still a slight nip in the air and I am finding it difficult to move from underneath this cozy lil throw. I have so much to do, in order to stay caught up. As I won’t have my catch up day to fall back on.
I woke up this morning to my belly, being a tad vocal, I’m trying to keep it at bay until at least 10am, currently it 7:30 and by 10, I will have been awake for nearly 5 hours. I am bit of an early bird, I love the sounds and smells of an early rise!
Suejen…. My info…… Bert1802……. Michelle…… Tampa bay, Florida, US
Well, I must be off as if I sit here any longer, nothing will get done plus the pooch is barking at the door and I surely don’t want my neighbors awaked to that.
Stay strong and steadfast on your fasting today. With a little determination, you can achieve glorious things!
Good morning (here, at least). Hope the B—–y storms, whether of weather or chocolates, have subsided. We southern belles do try to be polite, but TIA for understanding any language pitfalls.
A day off for me, sitting with 2 snoozing pups at my feet, as classes havenβt started, just prep work to do. Bert, I remember the rush of a busy job, and fondly β I can tell youβre one to enjoy what you do, so you fit well with this group! I bet that hair is a force to be reckoned with β Iβm jealous as mine is rather straight except for the odd waves that look like hair spasms.
SJ sent you my info separately, and thanks again for that. I loved the heart painting, beautiful colors and words, I felt the tears reading it, have been lucky to know a few like that dear girl to inspire me in my life.
CG nice going at the shops β new clothes, no garish Buddhas, and a pair of birds to guard your pond. I love the descriptions of retirement, I look forward to it but canβt yet. But youβve revived my dream to dig a veg garden this spring β I want to have one that is serene as well as productive, but I know it takes work esp to start it right. OH is little help, man of ideas and big procrastinator otherwise π but Iβm still pretty strong at 60-something π
Fit God love you, just ease back onto that buckin bronco, girl! Who of us wouldnβt do the same after an au revoir. There does come a time when behaving isnβt as important as letting your heart relax and have its way. Sorry if that sounds corny, Iβm not the poet that Gyps is.
Come to think of it nor do I have your courage, Gyps – riding a motorcycle!? β OH and I tried that, because heβs always coming up with βthings we can do togetherβ but he broke a few bones and I was constantly screaming inside my helmet which is rather distracting. Cycles gone now. Maybe I could hitch a ride in your sidecar.
PHβ¦you had a G&T and didnβt nibble the night away?! Kudos β and you made it sound rather effortless. Thereβs a shining example of seizing the moment (of control). Iβm trying to do that on regular days, but most FDs I feel like Katniss Everdeen. And aw, your βserverβ sounds like a wonderful guy, what a love.
Brain is foggy, canβt remember what else has been said but I know it was brilliant and I love being in this big lovely mix β have a great day all. jade xx
Many thanks Jade Bert and Barb for your info. Have added to the list and might be ready to post up for you tmorra (as we might say!). Had a funny eating day today. Made ham & cheese croissants for brekky (no didn’t make the croissants) & they were so doughy we didn’t feel like any lunch. So had a lite lunch at 3.45 & then didn’t bother with dinner. Well had a glass of milk & a couple of my roasted apricots with custard. Should be a good start to FD numero 2 tomorrow.
Have a good night/day all and let’s all have a wonderful fast day all ready for EVERYONE to report their weigh-in on Friday or PH think yours was Saturday (well someone’s was anyway!). And if at first you don’t succeed….well…..you know the rest!!! And that’s exactly it….just start all over again and repeat till your body catches up with the game plan. Huh we can do this us intrepid band of aussie determinators π sj XXXX
Good morning all. FD number 2. Another glorious day here in the valley. House is quiet and I made Shakshouka from the recipe book for bfst this morning. It had onion, garlic, red pepper, tinned tomatoes and a selection of spices plus an egg. It was tasty but I did put a little more hot chilli flakes than needed. Having trouble judging that as I had chilli flakes and not the chilli powder in the recipe. Not enough to blow your head off but there was a zing to it.
Last FD I was at work, this one I am at home and may have a nibble for lunch because others are here. I will just have some lettuce, cucumber or a bit of celery perhaps. We will see. My OH is doing well although he absolutely cannot relinquish his morning coffee. We have a Gaggia and he grinds his own beans. I have told him that it is a big chunk of calories but he can’t let his morning treat go. I feel that he is doing well with everything else and am making that small concession.
Yesterday, I had my banana egg pancakes with some plain Greek yoghurt and fresh passionfruit for bfst. Lunch was celery and an apple, then dinner was pork sausages, mashed sweet potato, carrot and peas. The others all had natural fruit icypoles for dessert.
Tonight we are having Turkey Burgers, corn, salad leaves and a watermelon salsa, again from the book.
I hope to have a little time to bead today as I want to make some earrings.
Tomorrow is weigh in day for me too. I hope to have lost something, even if it is only a tiny bit which would spur me on.
T
CG – thank you for the lovely words; they mean alot. I didn’t manage a semi-fast today and I realise there is no need for me to be pushing myself. I have no deadline so there’s no rush with this weight loss. So I’m going to fast as normal tomorrow and every Mon and Thurs and just let this wol work its magic slowly and steadily. So I’ll post my result on Fri knowing I’ll be up on last week but after that I’ll be going down π
Milena – good to hear that you embraced the idea of Women’s Christmas; well done!! You are a mum in a million. I like your phrase “I haven’t found my rhythm yet”…..I’m definitely looking for mine too!! π
Barb – how lovely that you are inspiring your GD to take an interest in sewing; such a useful and creative past-time. Even if she doesn’t stick with it now, I’m sure she will take it up later now that you have started the ball rolling.
Bert – looks like you got into the spirit of Women’s Christmas too; I think we have started a new worldwide trend…..woohoo!!
Jade – not corny at all, just heart-warming – so thank you xx. Best of luck with the garden plans π
SJ – very wise words about keeping with the plan until your body catches up; I’m definitely in that phase at the moment and I will be doing exactly that. Xxx
Yellow weather warning in place here and it’s my part of the country that’s taking the brunt of the rain and wind at the moment. Hopefully, it passes off overnight and there’s not too much damage by morning.
CG – great minds think alike…I have just emailed you too and crossed with you again!! We’re definitely on the same wavelength!! Good for you getting back into the routine – it’s what works best in the long run. My dancing and french classes will start again next week; so I’m looking forward to that. I think I’m doing too much sitting around navel-gazing!!
Hello team. Fit I have to ask – what is a yellow weather warning? As one of you said in an earlier post, we all speak English but sometimes the terminology or words mean different things.
Things re pretty much steady as she goes here. Our family are here with us for another few days. We are hoping to have a BBQ tonight. It’s mostly low calorie food but I’ll portably make a potato salad plus garlic bread. The kids love it and their gran doesn’t mind it either. Not exactly low cal but yummy.
Right we are about to have a very late breakfast.
Cheers team and enjoy the day.
Dawg – there are three levels of weather warning here; red is the most serious with serious risk of life and limb; orange is next with serious damage to property, roads etc and yellow is next which means floods, trees and big branches down, loosened roof tiles etc. Have a great time with the family and the BBQ – it all sounds fab!!
I watching the new series on the BBC by Dr Mosley called ‘Trust me, I’m a doctor’ – there was lots of interesting research about diet, exercise, nutrition, fat levels, fitness etc. All the information is available on http://www.bbc.co.uk/trustme Worth checking out, I think.

Morning All onto another fast day for most of us….nothing to fear about that hey. We have all been through at last one, even our newbies, and know that it’s doable. And that eventually we do it with ease…..well most of the time! Had my morning coffee with a splash of milk & about to boil my eggs. Have tassie salmon for dinner (very small piece) & a salad. Maybe throw in a Vegemite drink or a La Zuppa soup if I need it, but going to try and head more towards vegies for any fillers so cutting up some carrot celery & cucumbers. I’m not a natural vegie person so think I need to re-train my brain/tastes in that direction more! PH you seem to have that one down pat so I’ll try and follow your lead – plus others who’ve mentioned it too. It’s a great habit to have for sure.
Well I set a record this morning. My dud scales have been throwing all sorts of weird figure at me lately like 53kg or 45 kg but today’s was 158.0. YIKES no choice but to buy some new ones ASAP. Will see what I can get locally otherwise may need a shopping trip. Annoying that we’ve just been to Perth but it started when we got back.
Dawg potato salad and garlic bread sound divine! Enjoy!!
Fit thx for info re your weather warnings. Good to know in case you say Red!
Genie I love Shakshuka. Which FD recipe book do you have?
Well will leave it there for today as seemed to spend all day yesterday on the computer. And have a small mountain of tomatoes to make into chutney. Good day for it being a FD as it will keep me busy. So hang on for the ride team and make your FD count. Jump into bed with a smile on your face saying I DID IT. First off it might have been I THINK I CAN….I THINK I CAN….I THINK I CAN…..and then it becomes I THOUGHT I COULD…..I THOUGHT I COULD….. AND I DID IT YEAH!!! (sound familiar?!). Just can’t help the junior primary teacher bursting through sometimes! suejen XXXX
SJ – well done on the planning ahead, I’m sure you will get a taste for veggies with all that great preparation that you’re doing. Good luck with getting the new scales..it’s not nice when they give you a shock like that! Yes, I’m glad we practically never get a red warning although there were some orange ones in other parts of the country over the last week. So sad to see people who had to finally give up on trying to save their homes after battling for the past two weeks to save them…one was a 300 year old farmhouse that had been in the same family for generations.
Thanks for the update, SJ.
PH, very clever and good to see you again!
I actually thoroughly enjoyed a Georgette Heyer a couple of years ago, a bit of escapism. Recently finished the latest Kate Moreton and thoroughly enjoyed.
When we were living in Connecticut last year, our credit card was cancelled by the bank because they found it on a “list”. The problem was, they forgot to tell us so we found out the hard way and had to wait for a new one to come from Aus. Not a good experience!
Not in the zone for fasting today, might have to do tomorrow instead. Unusual but I am going to go with my gut!
Good luck to those who are fasting.
Afternoon everyone. Just home from Bridge and then lunch with some friends. My fast days will have to be Monday and Wednesday’s regularly from now on with weigh in day on Thursday morning. Every Thursday after Bridge we go for either coffee or lunch and so want to enjoy that time and be able to order what takes my fancy.
Now for the good news. Weighed this morning for the first time since before Christmas and I am exactly the same weight. 98.1kgs. Total loss since start in sept approx 9kg. Did not put on anything over Christmas so must have been doing something right. I am stoked.. πππππππ.. Can’t believe it after all the drinks and happy hours I have had. That one fasting day when I was in the van must have been enough to maintain. What a great program 5.2 is…now that I am back into the normal swing of things hope the scales keep going down..probably slowly but that is OK.
Nodding off so will get back to answer posts laterπ€π€π€
While on the topic of makeup and clothes- I’d like to add my bit. Some years ago I suffered a debilitating back injury while nursing that caused me to develop chronic spinal pain. I was eventually referred to a pain management clinic where I was treated by a very compassionate doctor who specialised in that field. One of the many valuable lessons he taught me was to take care of my self esteem. He told me to get out of bed every day, whether I was in dreadful pain or not. Have a shower and shampoo my hair. Get dressed and NOT in some sloppy track suit or the like. Put on some makeup and comb your hair. Even if you don’t expect to see another soul all day dress as though you are expecting a visitor and don’t want to be seen looking like something the cat dragged in. I found this very good psychology when I was at such a low ebb. If we feel good about our appearance it does wonders for our state of mind. Overweight people can also suffer low self esteem. So team, while working on our weight loss we need to know that we look the best we can.
Fit thanks for explanation re yellow. We have similar warnings but usually related to heat or fire warnings. Red of course is extreme too.
I’ve never made Shaksuka as I’m a lazy sod when it comes to cooking. I might give it a try as it sounds very tasty. I need to have a bit more variety in my 5:2 diet. Summers are fine with HB eggs, salads etc but winters are a challenge.
It’s great to have you honoury Aussies on our team as variety is the spice of life etc. We used to have someone from Belgium and New Zealand too but they’ve upped and offed.
πππΉππππ πππ
CG I’d have to agree. It doesn’t seem like a year since I was processing tomatoes! But then I counted out my jars & only have 3 chutneys left, 4 bottles of sauce & no pizza/puree type jars at all. So it MUST be time! Taken me all day just to get it to the put on the stove stage.
Gotta laugh at OH though. I had nearly everything but was just short of tomatoes & chilli flakes. So asked him to go as I was so busy. He doesn’t shop often I might add. So I got the onions ok, got dried onion flakes instead of chilli flakes (never use them), got raw sugar instead of brown sugar. Man there were only about 5 items on the list!!! I had to make him get the list out of his pocket so he would believe me about the chilli flakes, and the line above that said 2kg onions (speed reader!). So he’ll have to go back if my chutney is not spicy enough!
PH & CG looks like we’re going to have 2 teams of fasters M/W & M/Th. But then there’ll always be someone joining you who has to swap for some reason. Will be interesting to see how you both go.
Gee looks like I might be in the minority re makeup. Might have to pick my act up eh?! sj XXXX
Great to have you along with my fast days CG . It certainly suits my commitments better. And you are right. There is always the Friday to do another one if I feel the need. Regarding the makeup I actually feel that my skin can’t breathe in makeup and if I have to put it on to go somewhere I can’t wait to get it off. I can tolerate tinted moisturiser for a full day if I have to. I feel so much better just washing my face, and putting a bit of lipie on, although it does not last long. .My mother was the same. I guess it is an individual thing. I do spend time on my hair care and go to a good hairdresser, and get a cut once a month to keep the shape. Always like to have my pedicure done, eyebrows shaped and lip and chin waxed for excess hair. π ππΏβοΈ
SJ. I am not a cook and could never see myself doing what you do with you chutneys etc. love eating the homemade things though so rely on market stalls to get mine. One of the local op shops has a lady that regularly supplies pickles and chutneys for sale that are very nice. You must have lots of patience to do all that preparation. Can relate to hubby shopping. My O H does the shopping and regularly comes home with the wrong thing. Thanks for the updated list. Must print it out and have handy to jog my memory. You certainly do need new scales! πYour graph would look like this. Instead of this. π
UP. Good luck with your fast tomorrow. If you don’t feel in the right frame then it is very hard. Good call to postpone..
Getting the dinner call from OH. Must go ..a big H to everyone I’ve missed..ππ
PS. Having a scotch tonight to celebrate staying the same weight over xmas.πΉ
Afternoon all. I survived my second day fasting but am feeling like I have reflex?? Don’t know if that’s part of it or not.
A lot of chatting on line today, sorry I wasn’t able to add anything to it still working with my GD making her second dress, I am very impressed with her.
Always wonderful when I hear someone has maintained their weight, that’s great, well done.
I don’t wear any makeup either, I feel like there is something on my face & it feels odd. I should get into wearing mascara though & will from tomorrow onwards.
Can’t wait for my weigh in tomorrow.
Until next time, enjoy yourselves whatever you are up to.
Doggie, my ears are burning. I have to confess that I dropped off the thread months ago when everything in life got too busy. I still contribute to one or two of the conversations, but the AD thread is so active I wouldn’t be able to keep up, and have withdrawn. It’s only that I’m on holiday that I can read the postings, and caught your mention.
Let me second Simloecov’s comments about CG’s wonderful support and encouragement. You are in good hands. π
Well done, and best of luck to you all.
Oops, I disappeared for a few days… I’ll blame work for that. Another fast day here and went pretty well, but with an expensive visit to the dentist reduced my ability to eat for most of the day. Total ‘food’ for the day was a Berocca at breakfast time, 2 small Barley Sugar lollies (bad, I know) around lunch time and my miso and egg soup for dinner. Made soup yesterday with a tin of tomatoes, some soup mix, a few zuchinnis (fresh from the garden) and some supermarket coleslaw mix.
Hope everyone’s staying safe with the crazy weather all over the place.
hi everyone , it’s WB from Sydney !
Had an ok fast day today, my 2nd so far . until I had dinner was ok then found myself finishing off my kids food they wasted …yet again! Maybe I got too hungry beforehand. I think I need more freezer meals to keep me on the right track. Has anyone got dinners from lite n easy ,TLC, lean cuisine etc to help them and how has it helped you. I don’t like cooking…prob cos I got 2 fussy kids , can’t wait for hubby to come through the door at 1830-1900 and therefore get too hungry . Plus I don’t really like cooking!
I’m not looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow…
