  • Wow, you are amazing. I have the eggs on to boil as I write. Have to admit I am not a fan of tuna, is salmon ok? Guess what I am having for dinner tomorrow night ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ I send you a heartfelt thank you ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Barb substitute things for what you like, chicken tenderloins, steak, whatever ๐Ÿ˜ƒ consider yourself now under my wing. Oh and the omelette, add a hand full of mushrooms, bean shoots, a spring onion ….yum! And try to promise me, you will stick with us, at least till Easter, and I bet you will be so surprised at your success ๐Ÿ˜ƒ xxxxx

Hi all, looks like almost all of us are ready to get back into the swing of things tomorrow and start 2016 off with a big effort to get the Christmas extras off and then keep plugging away at getting rid of the excess kgs forever….bring it on. I’m with you CG I have really missed my pool Aqua sessions and the pool strengthening sessions. Start them again tomorrow Yahooooo!๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป my back is constantly aching with no exercise.NOTE TO SELF FOR FUTURE HOLIDAYS..make sure I have access pool everywhere I book for holidays away from home, and then make sure I use it..I think there is one at the WTF reunion accommodation. Spending today cleaning up and giving my Daugher everything out of the fridge and cupboard that is left over from Christmas and the van ..Christmas pudding, chocolates, lollies etc. She is getting visitors and so they will clean them up and I will have no temptation. Seems like I came home from the beach just in time to avoid packing up in the rain. Raining cats and dogs here at the moment.

What a wonderful time we have all had.
SJ your house swap sounds like it was a great success. Enjoy your friends catch ups in the next couple of days.
Gyps. Loved your latest posts and your pics. You have the happy knack of cheering everyone up and making us smile. Not long till we all get together and I can see that smile In Person..and of course the gawdmothers smile also. Hope the writing is coming along.
CG. Enjoying Christmas with your family and Welcoming all of our newby’s and taking them under your wing. I can just see Lexie and the sheep as you described. I’ll bet you could spend hours out in the paddock watching them,

Fit and Milena I always look forward to your posts that I read first thing when I wake up and now we have another two or three from the northern hemisphere you will both have someone else on line when all of us Aussies are in the land of Nod. ๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ’ค
Jade I too have visions of the south based on Gone with the Wind like the rest of us. Ihave not been to the USA with the exceptions of a few airports changing planes on route for my son in Ottawa and of course Niagra Falls which is in both Canada and the USA. I imagine it is beautiful and new we can all see it through your eyes. I really look forward to your posts too, you appear to have a great sense of humour. Keep them coming.

Genie, I can’t remember where you are from. Old age creeping in. I’ll have to write a list of people with their addresses next to it so that I will remember. At the beach this year we decided that everyone needed to start wearing name tags as we kept calling all the little ones by the wrong name…oh well it still worked as someone would answer us even if it was not who we thought we were speaking too. So funny.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” I too found MFP tricky but once you fathom out that you can change serving sizes and weighs etc it is a breeze. Well done with the walking.

Welcome to you Barb Lovely to have you join us. The more the merrier and if you are looking for no negativity then This is the forum for you. I think it must be banned as I have never come across any. These lovely group always see the positive and “always look on the bright side of life”๐ŸŽผda dum de dum๐ŸŽผ

GG. Sounds like you enjoy fishing with OH. Do you have a jetty of your own? my OH would love it if I went fishing with him but somehow it did not grab me. On second thoughts maybe he would not love it. It is his excuse to escape for a few days on his own whenever he likes..๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŽฃ and then I get to do what i want too…shopping, shows, movies with friends etc. ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘œ๐Ÿ‘ฏ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

UP you must have sent the cockroaches down to us. (If it was you who was having a problem) Came home to find them everywhere. Out with the big guns..spray..baits everywhere. Now that Brandy is no longer with us we can give them heaps. Lovely your son us still home. Enjoy while you can.

WB hope your day with friends is going well and good luck with your fast tomorrow.

Better get up and do some more unpacking and cleaning. Sorry to those I have missed..will catch you next time. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜

    To Bert and Barb
. Many posts crossed. I thought I was going mad. I thought there was a Bert and then saw Barb and so went back and edited my post to say Barb when I was right the first time. So we have a Bert and a Barb. Great stuff. Not going mad at all. Regarding the shakes I did those years ago and even though you do feel full it is not as much fun as eating a beautiful salad and a bit of chicken etc. and all of the great Recipies that you can prepare ahead of time if you plan.๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ—๐ŸŒฎ๐ŸŒฏ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ… even occasionally ๐Ÿป๐Ÿท๐Ÿธ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿพ.
I do make green smoothies though and they fill me up but do not do these on a fast day as I feel the need for more protien On those days. Stick with CG and she will give you so much great encouragement and good advice that you will be smashing this way of live in no time and loving it. The best Mother Hen on the planet.

Oh PH, thank you, I think we all are at heart, just mothers wanting to help others, we have all had the same plight and know 5:2 works but also how daunting it seems in the beginning. As long as I don’t appear bossy, just concerned and caring โ˜บ๏ธ xxxx

CG you are so much appreciated by one who is new and needs all the help you and other can offer. PH, thank you for the welcome and you are right, positive thinking it is!!
Question to CG: how do you prepare the chicken breast fillet or tenderloins and is the frozen fish crumbed?
    Thanks again.

Barb, no the frozen fish is in a steam bag, (inside the box) not crumbed. It’s birds eye steamed fish, usually with a choice of sauces, very yum! The chicken, a spray of olive oil both sides of the chicken, then in a pan on gentle heat with the lid on….. or steam it with a piece of lemon in foil, it’s lovely and easy. Check out google for the recipes, use a lot of herbs for flavour too. I love Italian herbs ๐Ÿ˜ƒ good girl, I’m proud of you, your mind set IS in the right place ๐Ÿ˜‰ xxx

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes!
Purple hats…… Glad to hear you’ve made it off the crazy train, well that’s what I call it when, I see one thing, think another and drive myself to madness then laugh. I think of it as my brain trying to tell a really bad joke, so bad, you have to laugh.
I did buy a few shakes as a precaution for lazy days. I haven’t felt like I would need them but would give it a try……
I am so happy with being on board with no negativity…. I just find that when even a little does come in it rubs off on me. I learned many years ago, that even on the worst days being positive puts me not only in a better mood but it helps navigate better in those bad times. So, I tend to be one of those people who are always happy!
Well off to bed for me, only one more day of vacation or holiday before my next fast and back to work since the 22nd of Dec.

Barb, once you get used to using MFP you will be staggered how many cals are in things, check out a teaspoon of olive oil, butter….. No wonder we all put on weight, I think we just over used so much of things. Of course use the oven to do fish or chicken in foil, nor a microwave dish. I have one with two levels, put water in the bottom, then the meat, then the lid…oh so easy…โ˜บ๏ธ xxxxx

Bert, one positive thought in the morning can alter your whole day xxxxx

Where do you live Bert? I live in Central West NSW Australia. CG what do you mean two levels? You don’t steam meat do you!!!! Sorry if that is a silly question.

CG . You are never bossy. Just absolutely supportive.
Another recipe for anyone who is interested. My OH does all the cooking..lucky me..one in my favourite fish recipes is a nice fillet of fish wrapped in foil in the oven with a small spray of soy sauce, not much, on top with slices of lemon and baked in oven for about 10/15 min. Depending on the size of the fillet- This one good for FD.
Not good for FD but great for other days is Atlantic salmon brushed with lemon juice and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Baked uncovered in the oven for about 15 min or so depending on oven. Served with steamed cauliflower, broccoli, snow peas and some slices of zuchini and sweet potato steamed and finished off in a non stick frypan till browned. No oil required. This last part a bit fiddly but he loves the veg that way and so do I. Aldi had 1kg packets of frozen salmon in just the right size pieces. Brilliant. Also great served with salad if you don’t feel like cooking veg.

Bert and Barb. You are certainly taking the right attitude to this new way of life you have commenced. You will come to feel that it is just so doable…and so easy to stick to. The fact that occasionally you can have a couple of drinks and some healthy nibbles without guilt is what I love the most and not feeling guilty about it makes you feel that you are not on a diet. Stick with us and you will be amazed what you can achieve. I still have about 10 to 12 kgs to go and am certain that it is achievable.

WE CAN AND WILL DO THIS TOGETHER! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    Sounds wonderful PH!!!!

Barb no question is ever silly, right? No, the “dish” is for steaming fish or veggies. They are at most supermarkets. They have a lid and a rack inside. You put water in the base, for steam, not much, then put the little plastic rack in with fish or chicken (no not meat, I meant fish or chicken) does fish beautifully, squeeze of lemon on top ๐Ÿ˜€ so quick and easy……and just have steamed veg or salad with it ๐Ÿ˜€ sorry for the mix up, my brain is in overload! You could buy two, one for fish the other for veggies ๐Ÿ˜ƒ….the other thing, for snacks, celery, carrots (sweet and crisp) done in straws, capsicum, baby cucumbers, even an apple in pieces, they don’t sound interesting now, but on a fast day, at work….or home, they are perfect and really hit the spot ๐Ÿ˜€
    PH they sound lovely…..

Barb, what weight are you now and what is your goal. Plan on small goals to start with, even 1-2 they are easier to reach.๐Ÿ˜„ you should be down 500g to a K each week….. Exciting isn’t it ๐Ÿ˜Š xxxxx

Wow I am way behind – welcome Bert and Barb! Obviously not being from Australia doesn’t keep you from posting here ๐Ÿ™‚ – such great support and many success stories.

Doggie and UP, yes I’m with you – big Obama fan and love Michelle Obama also. I just hate what’s going on here, with politicians like Trump egging it on. And every day, if not a mass shooting, people are shooting their own family members thinking someone is breaking into the house. Shame on the gun industry and greed and fear. All right then, you know where I stand on that one!

Late here, so off with me – will enjoy reading the new posts with coffee in the morning. Night all, love this group! โค๏ธ xx

Sadly 87kg heaviest I have ever been. I would like the be between 70 & 75. 70 would give me a little bit of a comfort zone.

Jade we love having you ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Barb, that’s very very doable, I was close to 100k and this morning 73.6k…….it’s doable, still I need to drop a few more K, just to git rid of my annoying fat roll, plus some firming needed, but at 65 very happy where I am โ˜บ๏ธ xxxxx

Wow, that’s fantastic. I am looking into a person here who is taking on ladies who are on diets to help them with weight and strength exercises. A friend of mine has been going regularly (she has lost over 60kgs) and she said it has been great. I know about the “roll” it’s been hanging around me for yonks.

I’m just back from the paddock and feeding Lexie (my calf to you newbies) and put my hand around the back to hitch my ‘new” shorts only to feel a tradies “crack” oh no, the denim has stretched already, back to my teen years of one wear then wash, to make ’em fit tight again! The joys of weight loss! ๐Ÿ˜œ xxxx

Wow to your friend Barb. Over 60kgs. It is good to do some strength exercises along the weight loss road and if you have a friend that can recommend it your laughing. As CG says your desired loss is definitely doable…๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Bert. I think your word “crazy train” hits the mark. I get on and off regularly so nice to have a word for it. Love it.

Jade agree with everyone re the need for some gun control in the US. Cannot understand the resistance to any sort of control. Nice to know your feelings so we won’t offend you. Have a good nights sleep and wake up ready to tackle anything that you wish.

60k my goodness, what weight was she? That’s the weight of another person. Good on her…….she would have had so many health issues with that, I bet she feels like a new person………

I don’t know but I suspect around 150. Yes a lot of issues but this class she goes to has help enormously. She is a very positive person and looks fabulous.

Barb, she would most definitely be watching her diet too, exercise of any sort would not shed that amount of weight…….

I’m a bit proud of myself, I’ve had 3 fast days in the last 9 days. According to the scales this morning I was 87kg, which is about a kilo down from when I started (it’s an old type of scale so not overly accurate) but I’ll be happier when I get below 85 as I know it’ll be actual weight loss as I’ve weighed myself anywhere between 86 and 88 in the space of 36 hours.

Loving my miso and scrambled egg soup for lunch but need to start working out my FD dinners as I like having my meals prepared so I just have to microwave them

Congratulations Toady that is great you should be very proud of yourself. . Never tried putting scrambled egg in my miso soup. How do you do it? . Sorry I can’t help you with the microwave dinners as usually have some protien and salad or veg on Fast days. There is bound to be someone who can help you though. Regarding the weighing. I find it more accurate to weigh at the same time of the day and on the morning after fast day at the end of each week as weight fluctuates all the time. Others do not do that though so to each his own way of doing things. I guess whatever suits you. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Instead of making the soup in a mug I make it in a saucepan and crack an egg into the boiling liquid and whisk… although it didn’t go too well today and ended up with the yolk as a whole but was nice none the less. Apparently I’ve had 230 calories today, might have a banana for dessert.

Going to make up some soup with a soup mix, a few tins of tomatoes and whatever vegies are hiding in the fridge.

Sounds good Toady. I will give that a go. Congrats on your weight loss too.

Toad, it all sounds good but don’t forget, you need the intake with the zigzag effect for 5:2 to work. Staying extremely low cal is not really healthy, the body needs neutrients, fruit and veggies, meat fish and chicken! Check your TDEE and see what you should be on on normal days, being a bit lower is fine, but your getting close to fasting days cals, so a normal fast will be useless. Admittedly, the less you eat, the more you lose, but can you maintain eating like that. Three fasts in 7 days are fine, but not too often, but eat normally on your non fast days. You will still lose weight and be healthyb as well. Scales are a pain, they never read the same twice…..mine are digital, with all the bells and whistles which I don’t use, but the keep me on the straight and narrow as I weigh daily so know when I’m over indulging, I’ll be in trouble. They zigzag of course but it depends what food is in transit ๐Ÿ˜ƒ…..take care and keep up the great work….wonderful idea with the miso soup too, I often add silverbeet shredded, ……xxxxโ˜บ๏ธ

WELCOME TO GL502,BERT,BARB,TOADY….You are all so welcome to AUSSIE DETERMINATION! You will be well supported and not to mention splitting your sides LOL on our thread.
PH- I live right on the water and have a jetty. Our back yard is the beautiful WALLIS LAKE. The fish are family so it is a challenge to fish as they seldom take the bait.
Back to work tomorrow for 4 shifts of Nursing and my side kick job also looking so forward to FD…..YEAH bring it on!!!!!.So the HB egg and miso is ready for the morrow.
Are we all prepared to take on 2016 with our AUSSIE DETERMINATION?
YES ! GYPS we have 8 weeks till the WTF reunion …I am sure we will all be somew here in the low 70’s or below be then. KEEP UP THE STRENGTH AND FAITH…. We know we can do it!
WHO NEEDS THE SCALES? …..We can see the change in our bods cause we have lost dress sizes…….GO GAL XXXXXXXXX

Ha, ha, didn’t I tell ya’s magic happens? I sed “Yank” and now we have two! So gedday Bert! and Barb! Welcome.

For fast days, Wake up to water, water, water and more water as the day progresses. flush your body, it will love you for it. Filtered water, please. who was it sed “if you are not running to the loo every hour you are not drinking enough water!” ? (CG, I think) A sueeze of lemon in hot water, or lemon tea, starts the fasting detox really well. Ideally, don’t eat till midday, but everyone is different with different needs (and jobs) you will find your pace, NEVER GIVE UP. SIMPLIFY. Should all else fail, have hot teas, miso soups and vegemite soup,(and pick CG’s brain for all things pertaining to SOUP!) to warm the tum.(you may feel cold from fasting, that’s normal. If in doubt eat anything green in copious amounts as a filler, especially salad leaves, cucumber, capsicum, celery broccoli and a white exception is cauliflower( all little to zero cals) and team them with small amounts of protein, boiled egg, fish, chicken, or beef. Fresh is best tho small tins of salmon or baked beans are ideal and have cals on label. (best get a calorie counter for variety choices, try ‘My Fitness Pal’,it’s a free ap, just google it). Use plenty of herbs and condiments for flavour. Lemon juice and olive oil with herb salts makes a tasty dressing. Err on the side of protein/fats for fillers NEVER CARBS. Tho in the end, it doesn’t matter what you eat in food groups, it’s the amount. It is just easier to keep the hunger pangs at bey if you know what wakes them up. And carbs/sugar will do that every time.

Small amounts of full fats, like a piece of cheese or a dob of butter will satisfy longer than a large amount of low fat products (which have no genuine nutrition, just lots of chemicals) and do far less damage. Ideally throw all your ‘lowfat’ and ‘diet sugar replacements’ in the bin. They are toxic to your liver and cause systemic inflammation, which increases your cortisol levels, which in turn causes the insulin resistance that is the actual reason why we are all getting too fat and can’t lose it. Big subject, but it’s all on here if you want tried and true clues to what has really worked. I am but recapping gems of wisdom contributed by all over the past year.

One handy clue: On fast days, Avoid carbs and anything with sugar (even fruit) that brings insulin into play for its digestion. Insulin in the blood stream causes hunger and few can resist the insulin gnaws. So don’t sabotage yourself. Till you know the ropes, forget bread and potato on fast days, but always remind yourself that you can have whatever you like, in reasonable proportions, tomorrow. Some one on here will have the answer to just about anything about your new Way of eating. It works. so does the group therapy!FORGIVE YOURSELF FOR THE ODD GLASS OF VINO. Luck xx gyps

Anyone got good ideas for breakfast that does take a lot of preparation?

Barb, if you are fasting, go without for as long as you can. Some of the team have an egg, but if you can hold off for lunch, around 12:00 that’s more calories you have saved. Going without brekkie is easy and doable. It’s mind set a lot of the time and years of training ” you must eat breakfast” Just a milky coffee will usually carry you through, plus water, water and more water ๐Ÿ˜ƒ it’s only one day! I never have breakfast, on any day, you do get used to it, fast days I go through till around 2:00 before I eat, but it takes time to be able to do that ๐Ÿ˜€ If you are fasting remember everything you put in your mouth, must be counted, so maybe rethink breakfast, it also gives you more cals for your evening meal โ˜บ๏ธ…..xxxxxxx

Hi CG in all the nutrician books I have read it says if you are going to miss a meal, don’t make it breakfast. It is supposed to kick start your metabolism? My current breakfast equals 216 cals. If I can get lunch and dinner and stay within my 500 cals I would be pretty happy with that. If I change my breakfast to a couple of eggs on a ryvita it would equal 119 cals. I only have black coffee no sugar so that would be negligible.
Thanks for your input too GB.very much appreciated.

Barb you have to go with what suits you ๐Ÿ˜€ there are no hard and fast rules Only the 500 cals. Try it differently as you go along and see what suits you best โ˜บ๏ธ you are going to succeed either way so best of luck fasting tomorrow , I know YOU CAN DO IT ๐Ÿ˜ƒ…..xxxx

Jade, don’t worry, you’ll get used to the blanket tagging. We are all individuals and tend to be as unique as we like. But I’m an Aussie and you’re a Yank for global Id. But you know what? On here it doesn’t matter a damn. Our combined lard melts down to a communal pot, with every agony shared. So we’ve already corrupted your nationality. You will never be the same once given the ORDER OF THE MEAT PIE(Honorary Aussie)….. So who will you be, really?……

    CG is: Madam President

    GG is: The Treasure

Jade is:……………LIONHEART. I see you. It’s been a long battle, but you are home now. welcome to the melting pot! xx gyps.

    Hi All!
Wowee!!! So many posts another newbie!! Barb – you are also very welcome here on this thread and to this wol. You have been given lots of advice and great tips already so I don’t have much to offer. There is a fast diet recipe book which will give ideas for breakfast options; if I remember correctly an easy one is grilled flat cap mushrooms and tomatoes, add some spinach or salad leaves…..quick and easy. Also we have a separate Aussie Determination Recipe thread which you can check out at your leisure. Finally, this might be a good time to mention the four Ps……planning, preparation, persistence and patience!! Add in portion control on non fast days and there you have 5:2 in a nutshell!! We also tell ourselves all the time that this is a marathon, not a sprint and we are in this for the long haul. Therefore, it is not a diet and so you cannot fail….you just keep going and you WILL do it in your own time.
UP – that’s great that you have more time with your son. Has your daughter started the new job yet? I don’t know how you cope with all those critters….weevils/pantry moths???? WTF?????
SJ – so glad that your house swap worked out so well for you and OH. You deserved a nice, relaxing break. When are you back to work?
Toady – be very proud of yourself; you are doing very well, but don’t burn yourself out. Remember: slow and steady wins the race. It also gives your mind and body time to catch up with what’s going on in your system and means it is a more sustainable lifestyle.
PH – I can remember my mother going through all the names in the family until she hit on the right one when she would call one of us to do a job or run an errand. I used to think she was losing it; now I do it myself and I have only two daughters!! ๐Ÿ™‚
GG – how idyllic to live on the water; so soothing and endlessly entertaining. Yes, I think we are all ready to kick a** in 2016 and I promise to get cracking on sorting out my computer troubles and getting ready to skype xxxx
Jade – have to put my cards on the table and say I’m an Obama fan too but a bit disappointed that he didn’t quite live up to expectations. However, I know it’s not easy to bring in sweeping changes in a country as vast and complicated as the U.S. He has, at least, challenged people to think in a different way – especially about guns, which I wholeheartedly applaud.
Bert – no shame in having shakes if that’s what gets you through…we all do this wol in our own way. However, if you find that solid food will make you feel fuller, then planning and preparing food the day before is a good way to go so that you just have to take it out of the fridge or stick it in the microwave and eat immediately. Stay positive and happy – you have made the best decision of your life to start 5:2 and the second best decision….to join us!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Gyps – what great advice and reminders for us all. With all you other talents, I sometimes forget that you also have a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. Xxxxx
CG – always love reading the posts about your patch of heaven and your four-legged friends; it’s impossible not to come away with a smile on my face after reading your posts. The sun is shining here at the moment after another night of wind and rain. The news was so depressing last night – seeing families trying in vain to save their homes from flooding; and there is more to come…God help them.
Hope all is well with everyone else. Best of luck for the week ahead. My plan is to finish off the last of the goodies and settle into two good fasts this week and every week…..nothing drastic, just stick with the plan….slow and steady!! WE CAN DO THIS; BRING IT ON!!!

Hi All. Just been catching up on all the posts since I was here NYE. Wow, what a lot there was to read.

We had a fast day yesterday and are planning another one tomorrow to help get us back on track as we only had one fast day last week due to family staying with us.

Fridge is looking a little less overwhelmed and the only problem thing left in there is a lovely Christmas pudding. That is not a major problem as it has “use by date” a couple of months away so it can wait until we have a bit of a crowd over to share it.

My weight has gone up and down and up again but I’m not stressing about it. Having read all your posts I realise that if I “keep on keeping on” the weight WILL come off.

To the other newbies who have joined this year “welcome”. I joined a couple of weeks before Christmas and was amazed at the “Community” and support I found here.

We are travelling between two homes at the moment. One we are renovating to live in and the one we are living in we are planning to sell. We seem to spend a lot of time in the car between houses so I don’t get to post as often as I would like and I often get behind with reading other people’s posts. It goes without saying that we will be glad to get settled again and stop the too-ing and fro-ing. We had people come through to look at the house today. It is not actually on the market yet but the estate agent knows that we are planning to sell and thought it might suit these people. We didn’t hear anything back from the Real Estate agent so guess it wasn’t what they were looking for.

Anyway, time for bed and looking forward to a fast day tomorrow.

Katy – you are doing all the right things and the weight will come off ๐Ÿ™‚ It must be very tiring and difficult to stick to an eating plan when you are going between two houses but stay strong. Hopefully, you will get to sell your house soon and life will settle down into a more manageable routine. Best of luck with both properties ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks FTR how do I find the Aussie Determination recipe thread?

Hi Barb… go to topics and under food you will find the AUSSIE DETERMINATION RECIEPE THREAD. IT HAS SOME TRIED AND TRUE RECIPES FROM OUR TEAM.
    HAVE FUN๐Ÿช๐Ÿน๐Ÿฉโ˜•๐Ÿต๐Ÿด…….. GO GALXXXX

Thanks FIT for mentioning the 4 P’s…..? They have helped us in this WOL& WOE๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘ญ….GO GALXXXXX

I had some trouble sleeping last night…… I just could not settle my self. Happens occasionally so I’m not blaming this new wol. I had so much on the brain and so many questions but I heard my kid come in from his nite. That never happens… The only reason I mentioned it was because I heard him whisper…. Momma I’m home, love you! I didn’t dare move…. Omg how long has he been doing that! Aww, what great kid! Do I say something? Do I just let well enough alone? Okay, I’m done being a softy but my boys are my everything.
So, somethings I’ve noticed since I started, I’ve only had one FD but I debated on a piece of chocolate. Do I want it? Do I need it? When has this ever happened?
I am also a huge drinker of diet Mountain Dew, on a normal day at least 6 to 8 cans goes into this body but since Thursday I’ve only had 2.
My question is? Is it normal to have a decrease or a stop of a habit like this?
    Thank you.
I’ve read a lot of people do soup on FD days, does having soup make you crave something more? You know something you can sink your teeth into?
    Thank you.
Barb…… I’m in Florida, US. I’m a good 16 hours behind all of you.
Well, on ward and up ward….. Today, I woke up to wonderful smells coming from the kitchen, so sauce is on the menu for tonight. It’s cold and raining outside 52 degrees and much needed rain for the garden. We have no plans today but to enjoy what we have been given. So, I start my day on a glorious note!

Gyps, you are something else โ€“ I love being in the communal pot oโ€™ lard! I feel Iโ€™ve been knighted, with a name like Lionheart. Though did I read you all donโ€™t do knights anymore? Oh wait, that wasnโ€™t the Order of the Meat Pie. All right then.
CG I laughed at your encouraging SJ to get a cat. I do love watching ours, such interesting creatures. How terrific that youโ€™ve reclaimed the โ€œone wear then washโ€ stage โ€“ itโ€™s nice to enjoy clothes hugging us again isnโ€™t it.
Toad, CG is wise โ€“ the big question is whether you can maintain what you are doing. I have thought about 3 FDs but 2 is plenty challenging for me.
PH, thank you for the kind words. Iโ€™ve so enjoyed reading your caravanning exploits, and now have a new recipe to try with the fish in foil w/soy and lemon โ€“ havenโ€™t cooked anything in foil lately, where is my brain.
Fit โ€“ Iโ€™m with you also on O not living up to expectations, sadly they were so high, with so much resistance. Iโ€™d be happy to see an end to the constant saber rattling. Re the guns, as CG said the bad thing is when theyโ€™re in the wrong hands, which is anyone untrained, not used to the adrenalin, thus most civilians. I do still think the majority of us know that and want a proper solution, but the fringe does get the attention.
Up, I prefer your countryโ€™s solution as well. And eek snakes! I know pantry moths, sometimes that critter will just come flying out of the cabinet and I think โ€œwhat have YOU been living in.โ€ Found a tiny dead mouse yesterday in the bird seed on the porch ๏Œ poor little thing just looking for food and warmth.
Katy โ€“ moving between two houses is exhausting. Forgot if youโ€™re up in age like me but I wish you strength and patience, or rather a big dose of the 4 Ps.
Bert โ€“ wow youโ€™re a real youngster! Sweet story of your son returning home ๏Š Yes 5:2 really makes you question habits, and fasting makes you appreciate real food. Take it from me, the sodas (sugar or diet) are just a habit that can be broken. I do think sugar and diet sugar kept me on that crazy train, but now I can usually stay in control. Most days :0
GG โ€“ your back yard is a lake?? How beautiful. The fish are onto you though! I didnโ€™t realize you were a nurse โ€“ there are several nurses in the group right? You must have strength and patience in spades.
Barb โ€“ re breakfast, for me 5:2 finally shattered the myth that I had to eat it. Never liked it, in fact it just got my appetite going. The great thing about 5:2 is that anyone can do it, the very first FD is the start of many victories. No matter how many names youโ€™ve called yourself, those days are over.
SJ, I can provide cats if you need some ๐Ÿ˜‰ โ€“ and hauling cat litter is great arm toner. Would love if you really did create a list, as I always get confused.
Doggy, I wondered also where people on the other (binger) thread had gone, and whether they just gave up; it makes me sad it think theyโ€™re onto some fad or another that will disappoint them.

Pardon my long monologue, but I took notes! sorry to anyone I missed โ€“ time for more coffee and to leave you be. Happy day everyone!! xx

Thanks GG, the only thread I could find was the Southern Hemisphere one, is that the one you were referring to?
Hi Bert, I am having trouble sleeping too. 2:30am thought I would check my emails & here you are. What a lovely thing for your son to say. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Have a great day.

Barb. Go to search and type in ..Aussie Determination Recipe Thread… And it will take you to the Recipies.

For the newby’s…Someone was talking about breakfast Recipies. Before I used to go without at all I used to cook up some baby spinach and mushrooms and onion with some cumin in a pan .and use it as a base for an egg. Then went to just eating either the base or the egg. . No toast at all in either of these just a cup of tea afterwards. You only have to get up 5 minutes earlier to have time for this. As gyps said…. Fresh is best and it is really easy to cook eggs. I also used to prepare a couple of salads in containers (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, capsicum, avocado, feta etc) with no dressing the night before I went to work. Then in the morning I would grab a small tin of tuna or salmon or some pre cooked cold chicken, the pre pared salad, a frozen bottle of water and some dressing and put it in a small soft esky and you have a great lunch all ready for you. I would get many comments in the lunch room about how great my lunch looked compared with what others had. It really is very easy to do. I still find myself doing this on the night before I know I am going to be out for a full day and want an easy, cheap, nutritious lunch to eat in the car somewhere. As fit says. The four P’s are the secret.

If you are into green smoothies then they are also a great way to have a quick healthy breakfast. If you have a bullett or ninja then some baby spinach, kale, cucumber, and a bit of frozen fruit to sweeten..mango,pineapple,banana etc or Apple with a bit of ginger and mint or whatever takes your fancy and you have a great breakfast to put in a container and have whenever you feel like it. Very filling. I sometimes make this up and take it to town with me in the trusty small soft esky with some frozen water and have it around 11am,or when I get hungry.

GG. What a lovely place you live. How special to have your backyard as a lake..good to have a few extra nursing shifts. Will finally get back to you today with Skype address. Sorry it has taken so long.

Bert, what a lovely son you have. Regarding your question if you should tell him you heard, you are the only person who can judge that as you are the one who knows him best. If you decide to tell him then you could start the conversation with telling him how much it meant to you to hear him say those words.

Jade. I have thought of taking notes sometimes. A good idea now that our numbers have increased and we have the joy of having new members. Although might be a bit hard as I do my posting on my iPad whilst resting in or on the bed.

Gyps love your “order of the meat pie”name for Jade.. And your wisdom re the eating is spot on. You are certainly a woman of many talents.

Katy. What a good start you have made especially with the added effort living between two houses. Well done. This is certainly a long term journey and you will see the benefits so hang in there..You can do this and it will work..

Toady ..thems for the tip about the egg in miso soup. I will give it a try but must admit to loving eating my hard boiled egg on its own.

Fit. My mum used to do the same thing. Even though my kids are all over the world I still go through the names when just on of them are home. Even add the dogs name in sometimes and they just laugh at me.

Well time to get out of bed and off to the pool. Have a great Fast Day everyone. Catch you later to see how you are all going.

Hi team, running late and slept in. Not being able to sleep much on fasting nights is normal as is often feeling cold, just add more clothes ๐Ÿ˜ƒI had a semi fast yesterday, by accident really, totally unplanned, came in at 739 cals, just food choices, so maybe that effected my sleep and the active brain?

Barb thinking of your breakki issue, when I said wait as long as you can, breakfast is…breaking the fast, and the jury Is still out on weather breakki IS important. The first push for breakfasts was the cereal companies to push their products! You can break your fast when it suits you! If you wake hungry, then go for it,often it’s a well learnt habit…….a warm drink is all that’s needed, and you can “break your fast” anytime.

Team ,sorry no time to reply to all these fabulous posts overnight, off to the pool and gym shortly, hoping to wake up proply there! Didn’t go off till around 2:00ish, no good reason, brain just too alert to rest……
Good luck with the fast today team, YOU CAN DO IT, this is the first day of the rest of our lives, let’s make it a good one !๐Ÿ˜€ your AUSSIE DETERMINATION will keep you on track, it will tap you on the shoulder when your mind starts to wonder or question, it IS only one day so stay strong, remember the positives and benefits, we ARE stronger than we think, RIGHT ? SO BRING IT ON ๐Ÿ˜‰
Will chat and read when back later xxxxxx

Thank you PH I have found the recipe source and thanks also for all the tips. Sounds so easy, it makes me realise I just make things too hard for myself. I haven’t got the energy yet to get out of bed & go to the pool. That’s on my bucket list too. One day at a time.
Good ideas from you too CG, hope you enjoy your swim. I ended up still being awake at 3:30. I suffer from insomnia at the best of times so I hope it doesn’t get worse with fasting, today’s the day. It’s also the first day of the rest of my life ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi everyone,
It was until late this afternoon, I didn’t realized it was still in the middle of the night when I am posting in the morning. So, your more and likely going to see my posts, when your saying good morning a new day. Not sure if that’s good or bad verdict is still out.
I’ll be starting my fast here in about 2 or so hours. I’m trying to get as close to 16 hours before my morning coffee. I pretty much have my whole day plan out, seeing as it is my first day back to work in 14 days and the husband has the afternoon shift and my oldest will be doing his thing too. So, it will be me and my youngest for dinner. I did my first day when I was home just lazing around so I’m hoping with working it won’t be as hard. Well, here’s to wishful thinking?

Jade….. Thank you for the compliment, you made my heart jump a little. I seriously don’t mind being the baby. There’s a lot of benefits to being the youngest, not only am I able to gain a wealth of knowledge, but I get spoiled too! Who wouldnt like that?

Purple….. I decided not to say anything to him, not because I think it will stop or I will embarrass him but as a parent sometimes not saying something and allowing our children to grow is more important. All I know is that he is growing up to be a fine young man and as long as he continues to care for others as I have cared for him. I know all will be well for him in his future. I must say that my future daughter is going to have a fantastic husband just like his daddy and my future grandchildren are going to be loved and cared for by a daddy who is like no other.

Barb……. Not being able to sleep is, one of my downfalls as well. For many years, I had to take a sleeping pill, which really didn’t help all that much. But I did some research learned a few tricks now I’m still not the best sleeper in the world but I’m sleeping more without the help of pharmaceuticals.
I took all light sources out of room, I mean all of those things that have a small light shining, clocks etc.
I put all electronics away at least one hour before I settle in and I know this sounds crazy but I got to bed very early. Most nights, I’m tucked into bed by 8/8:30. I found that I was not sleeping because I was overly tired. My body needs the sleep for what ever reason, so adjusting my sleeping schedule allowed me to actually sleep. I actually need 10 to 12 hours sleep each day. Crazy right? I also found that I am a early morning person,
Well, I am off to have my afternoon coffee. I hope your fasting day is going well for all. I’m cheering for you all!

So many posts since I looked 24 hours ago! Amazing!

All I have to say is that I am fasting today for the first time in weeks and although I know I can do it, I am a little nervous. How silly is that? Is it because I still have lots of yummy cheeses in the fridge and I am so used to drinking wine every night now?

Anyway, I have had plenty of practise! So for the newbies, I will write down my usual Monday fasting menu in case it helps someone.

Instant coffee with a dash of milk when I wake up.

Lunch will be an extra large boiled egg with a few cherry tomatoes.

If I need something mid afternoon it will be a spoonful of cottage cheese.

Dinner will be a small eye fillet steak with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, onion.I like a couple of slices of orange in there as well to make up for no dressing.

Other drinks will be water, black tea, maybe lime and soda instead of the nightly wine and another coffee. Coke zero sometimes.

    Happy fasting all!
