  • Hello! I’m new here. I’ve been enjoying reading all your posts and would like to join in. I’ve been doing 5:2 for four weeks now, wanting to lose about 6kg. Happy to have found an Aussie thread too – fabulous.

Hi maratus and welcome to AUSSIE DETERMINATION we have a very friendly thread full of support and encouragement. You will have questions as you go on so please ask and one of our team will be more than happy to assist you ? Most of us fast Monday and Thursday and weigh in Friday, but you can choose whatever days suit you and your life style. You can even change days each week if social occasions happen. 5:2 is very flexible and oh so doable, so good luck on your journey to a healthier and lighter you ? CG xx

Thanks! I’m fasting Sunday (today!) and Thursday most weeks, and weighing/measuring Friday.

    Thanks for welcoming me πŸ˜€

Your welcome, sounds a good plan. Don’t forget to keep up with the fluids too. How’s your fast going so far maratus? Staying busy helps you to stop obsessing on food too, bath the dog or go for a walk, do some gardening, it’s often boredom that makes us nibble.
Sunny, just saw your post, sorry, yes your next fast will be a lot easier, you know what to plan for, and if you get the rumbles mid arvo, a hard boiled egg is a great stand by. Herbal teas too and I find zero coke or mineral water helps me feel full with no cals ☺️ so whatever it takes to get through. If at work, take some carrot straws or celery or capsicum, just for something to crunch on, it does help. If your evening meal is full of vegies or low cal salads with some protein, fish or chicken, you should be fine. Try to use herbs too to add flavour, low cal does not need to be boring ?

Fasts are going okay. I hold off until dinner and then my preference is a big homemade bowl of soup or something that is filling and full of vegetables. I’m a full time uni student so I find fasting easier when I have classes all day and then get home and eat. Study is a bit harder on fast days. I wish it wasn’t..
The harder days are when I’m at work, like today, and things are quiet, and because I’m sitting doing nothing naturally I think about food (and I’d be having a coffee or something on a non-fast day for sure right now)
The lovely thing about fast days is the real appreciation you have for food. Eggs on toast? I can have them tomorrow morning. Woohoo!

Morning all. Happy to se you all back on thread after respective happy days.

FIT, congratulations on your daughter’s scholastic achievement. A chip off the old block! You really are in an enviable family nest with all your oldies close enough to visit and look after each other. Must be nice to truly belong to the earth you stand on. Love hearing of your life and history. And everyone else’s, too. We will not be strangers when we meet.

UP, Hope you are enjoying your trip up Mount Tambourine. My Paternal grandmother’s family came from that direction (Buchanan’s)They were in the timber business and I recall there was a beaut old Swiss style tavern up there. They used to keep huge Saint Bernard dogs and have musicians in folk dress playing squeeze box, fiddles and traditional drinking songs. Wonderful atmosphere. and it was always cool in the mountains. Have a good day.

Dawg. Glad you’re shaking the flue. Sounds like you might be better to have a cortisone injection to that knee rather than systemic anti-inflammatories . Which adversely effect kidney function over time, thus can increase fluid retention and doesn’t help those scales to go down. But more important for you is your general health and immunity. Anti-inflammatories can mask symptoms which need investigation. Do you have a yearly Flue shot? and the pneumonia shot, too? I think you could benefit from a physician’s check up if you still haven’t had your bloods done.

SJ Glad you are having quality times with old friends. Hope you are still planning to make the reunion. You, Toooo, Yummy!

GL. Wow! you’ve really done well with your weight loss. Agree it is lovely to walk into the garden and pick one’s own veggies. Mine often come with added protein. Grubs! So hard to beat them to it! (without spraying mega poisons). I have a greenie friend who supplies me with organic, natural deterrents, but it’s a race to my tomatoes, have to pick them as soon as colour shows, would prefer to vine ripen, but still better than shop bought. I am fortunate to be able to barter for a variety of fruit and veg, so don’t try for my own once the warm bug season is upon us, like right now. The bush is buzzing right now.

Sunshine, am guessing you are on the South East coast. Not many locals are ‘confident’ about swimming at our Northern beaches with the croc population on the increase!

GG. Don’t envy you the Bathurst buzz, but do envy your aspirations
bikini-wise! Will expect to see it in Sydney! If I hit 74kgs by then I’ll be stoked. But think the skin is too far gone for glamour! I do try to be satisfied with better fitting clothes, but as I see the turkey gobbler chins define to flippin’ flaps (instead of wobbling folds) I consider starting another change/wish jar, for a chin job! Ah, well, think I’ll have a nice cup of tea, or perhaps water, whatever reformed alco’s drink on a Sunday…. cheers! Gyps

CG. Please note my noble service. Plus the depths of my research on your behalf.

The first testing of your nectar was comprehensive and revealed the following:

Ants are attracted to it, so it is presentable. They survived imbibing and showed resilience under the influence. To the point of sticking to various structures for support, onto swimming in its delights, drying out, only to return for more. None died and they invited friends to share. So it’s not poisonous. Certainly, they all looked happy. So could be addictive.

Moving on to human trials: Many of the same characteristics were noted and it can be said that the after effects were encouraging. As in, there is no residual headache, so no fusil fumes linger on the palate. Tho there is some doubt as to wether that is an actual ‘after’ effect, or if the brain embalming aspect is permanent. In which case, this could replace other (illegal) substances on the pain relief scale, so the trials are promising so far.

However: The progressive deterioration of speech and motor skills (not to mention comprehension of ideal limits) over a surprisingly short time, suggests that the addition of honey to the raw spirit, adds a zooooom factor to the carrier enzyme. That equates to a pure dextrin rush to the brain, which appears to take alcoholic YIPPEEE to previously unchartered heights… (So it’s a win, win)…One can dilute to protect the public or simply enter the vegetative state and enjoy the ‘virtual visions’ experience.

We have named it “THE DIABETIC’S DELIGHT”.

    …Bottoms up!

Welcome Maratus. Well done on your progress so far. As you can see, this thread is a random bunch of serious losers! They are all characters who take the pain out of starvation and downsize every problem one presents. Nothing is impossible here. And the 5:2 Way of life (WOL) is a great advantage to start in younger years, wish I had. All power to you! I take it that you are not in the over 50’s bracket if you are a full time student. So what are you studying? Luck, Gyps

I agree about the studying being a little harder when fasting, Maratus. I wish I still had science lab sessions for uni because you can’t eat in the lab! Just normal classes for me at the moment.
Yes gyp, I’m a couple of hours south of the tropic line, so just sharks, jellyfish and stonefish to worry about!

Oh sweat Gypsy, the lengths you go to to impress your Madam President….who may I add, is ever so grateful. One would suggest, liver and kidney checks done, possible biopsy but definitely blood tests after some serious testing of said brew! ? and should more testing be required, one would suggest having Gailo in attendance for safety as walking (crawling) to the closest loo (tree) could be adventurous , or in the least dangerous! Should there be any of the said brew be left by March of next year, one would appreciate a personal taste testing ? in your presence of course, to witness any possible side effects!

    Kindest regards
    M.P. Xxxxxxxx

Evening all, FD today but not expecting a good result. Went out for dinner last night – 3 courses, and then to a 50th with lost of finger food, I ate lots of cheese , another weakness. eith way I am still continuing, this week coming up I have limited the lunches at work so,it shoul be easier.

I want to add some walks into my week. I hope you all had a great weekend, it all flys by so quickly.

So Tuesday and Thurday are FD this week, not doing the 2 pm to 7pm 29 hrs s it is too confusing , I will only do this in dire situations.

    Ciao CC

Evening all. WELCOME TO SUNNY AND MARATUS…..Wishing you both a happy and successful journey on 5:2.
I am LOL so much over “SAID BREW’S” name DIABETICS DELIGHT!..GYPS… That is a good indication that the effects on the ants are short lived but possibly exhusting after to many drying out sessions.Do agree with CG that kidney and liver function tests be mandatory after the WTF tour as there will be other contributing beverages that will show significant elevations in LFT’S and renal function.Perhaps I should pack leg bags.. (WILL NOT GO ANY FUTHER WITH THAT ONE!).

Fast day tomorrow …..YES BRING IT ON!!!!… we know how to do this. The summer is upon us and we had such success when we were fasting in those hot month last year as Even the silly season saw us successful with 5:2. WE ARE AUSSIE DETERMINATION AND WE CAN DO THIS!Have a great day……..GO GALXXXXXXX

    Hi All!
Just lost one of my enormous long posts and haven’t the energy to write it all again…so you’ll all be spared one of my dissertations today!!
Best of luck to all for the week ahead. I’m going to fast today, Tues and Thurs because I had big blow-out yesterday……please feel free to kick me in the butt!!

Hi Fit, why would we kick you in the but for being human? Above everything else I hope you enjoyed your socialising, especially with your elderly MIL ? and as we know, all is forgiven with 5:2 and a couple of fasts. Enjoy your week…. Guilt free ? xxx

Hey FIT….Do know how you feel…. My butt was kicked earlier today by CG …. So are you ready….. Stop being so hard on yourself!so what!… you had a blowout! you know that it will all be gone in the next few fasts. You look great the way you are now…. OK your butt is kicked…..have a wonderful day and week … hugs …..GO GALxxxxx

Home again and ready for to continue where I left off. Such a busy and draining week. But feeling good that I was able to be there for SIL and her family. Great to catch up with my nephews and their wives and children. So did not weigh Friday as I was away and planning to do just normal fasts this week..hopefully that will result in a loss but you never know. Did enjoy a few too many scotches but loved every one of them…

Thank you all for your support. Too many posts to reply to personally but have read them and had a number of good laughs. Gyps the effort you put into quality control is to be commended???

Welcome to our new students ??? great to have some younger ones making the effort to change their wol and beginning the healthy eating lifestyle. 5.2 is wonderful as it enables you the flexibility to enjoy your favourite things sometimes and still have a healthy lifestyle.

Have a good fast day tomorrow everyone and remember. WE CAN ALL ACHIEVE ANYTHING WE SET OUR MINDS TOO???β˜•οΈ???

..Sigh… I fell off the wagon and blew my tdee with fruit cake and cream, ….but tomorrow is another day and the eggs are boiled.

PH, glad you are back in the fold, sure your support was appreciated by your SIL. One can never regret a good scotch. But if we have new ‘students’ then best I clean up my act!

FIT, so sorry for your loss. I like your dissertations! It’s Microsoft needs the butt treatment.

GG. Brilliant! leg bags would be quite the thing in lieu hip flasks! ….um… connected to a different fluid source, of course. But then, what the hell, it all boils down in the end.

CG, I’ll take your suggestion under advisement. The Gawdmuther will be an excellent quality control person. I expect her to crawl out of the scrub any old day now. Will have to put her online to meet the mob.

Fasting day is upon us. In the nick of time. Best of luck everyone. Nite xxx Gyps.

Ok, Gyps – will do my best, just for you!! XXXX You had me in stitches with your description of the quality control experiments on the home-brew….just remember to leave some for CG πŸ™‚ Thank you for the kind words re my daughter and family history…I think I get a touch of the ‘wafties’ too when I start on that topic!
I’m back from shopping trip and my sister got lovely shoes and bags for her son’s wedding next weekend. I even managed to go for coffee without cake……can you believe it?! So, I’m shining my halo as I write!!!
Maratus – welcome and best of luck with everything, you have a joined a fab bunch of people here and will have great success if you follow their advice.
GG – no need to apologise about Bathurst. I’m sure it is well known internationally; it’s just one of the few sports my OH doesn’t follow, so I hadn’t heard of it. Love the sound of the leg bags, just don’t spring a leak!! πŸ˜† Thanks for the kick in the butt!! Will get on with the job now!
CG – hope you had a lovely lazy day; although your idea of lazy and mine don’t quite match up, since you call using the ride-on and watering the garden lazy πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the kind words about my blow-out xxxx
Sunny – just stick at it and it will soon become second nature. In fact, I find the FDs easier now than the non-FDs because I need boundaries and a set limit works well for me. Otherwise, I don’t seem to have the discipline and self-control to stop snacking and grazing all day. Maybe I should tell my subconscious that I’m fasting every day???!!!
Up – must have been very exciting to learn to drive in the mountains, I hate steep slopes, I always feel the car is going to stall or the brakes will fail! So glad you were spoiled on your birthday and I hope you had a great day out. Xxxxx
Change – I blew it too over the weekend and will be fasting Tues and Thurs; so we can support each other. We can do this!!
Have a great week, everyone and remember the four Ps…..plan, prepare, patience and persistence! BRING IT ON!!!!!!!

gypsybell/sunshiney – yes – I’m in my 20s. I ended up on this diet because a few weeks back I had a ball coming up. When I tried on my dresses, none of them fit! I didn’t want to buy anything new so I decided I needed to crash diet my way there. I love food too much to calorie cut every day, and after my work colleagues had had so much success on it I decided to give it a go (after previously ruling that it would be too difficult).

I did manage to squeeze into one of my dresses that night but I couldn’t eat much of my three course meal, as you can imagine.. phew.

And yes – science labs are the best (I’m a sci student) no eating for 3-4 hours! and then there’s the commute home, so fast days are easier during the week for that reason.

Good morning team, happy fasting day, to you who are fasting. Quite chilly down here in the south this morning with showers predicted. So stay warm, soups, hot drinks, whatever it takes to get you through. Doubt I’ll be fasting today, pretty off colour for some reason. Sore muscle in the chest, possibly aerobics, or the concrete pot I moved in the garden, and awful virtigo! Sinus seem full so hope it all passes with a lesson learnt to be careful with myself! The cartrrah from the sinus is nauseating so the tummy is a bit iffy for fasting, anyway, I’ll see how the day pans out. My GD’s spinal op is Thursday, rod being put through her spine which is an “S” shape, so doing it now (almost 15) will stop future problems (organs being crushed as she ages) as her back bending will cause. We are all putting on a brave face for her, but naturally very worried. She will be in ICU for almost a week, so a long painful path ahead for her the poor darling. Her surgeon is very positive, so it’s now in his hands and that of Gods. So hope to be well past my nigglie problems so I can support my daughter who is an awful state of worry. I’ll drive down to Melbourne at weeks end, once I’m allowed to see her, but don’t want to pass on any virus either, so it’s a wait and see game at the moment! Sorry, didn’t mean to go into all of that, just getting it off my chest I guess. Have a great day team, the path ahead is yours to follow, don’t be sidetracked by others negatively you are doing 5:2 for YOU ? xxxxxxxx

Hi maratus, remember to takes some carrot straws or your hard boiled egg, to eat at a convenient time, to carry you through, it’s easy to weaken and lose concentration when feeling really hungry. Water is very important of course, but hang in there 5:2 has given most of us wonderful results and it will you too ? xxxxxx

Thanks for the encouragement! I sure hope so.

Good morning πŸ™‚ It’s my second fast day today, so fingers crossed it goes well!

Oh CG you really do gave a lot to deal with at the moment. I feel for you and am sending you lots of {{{???}}}. I know the feeling as my daughter went through a Similar operation at the age of 21. A growth in her spinal cord with a very possible outcome of being in a wheelchair. ended up with lots of nerve damage to bladder etc but can walk!! They are amazingly resilient the young so with the grace of God and a good surgeon all will be well. Hope you are feeling better by the end of the week so you can be with your daughter.

Maratus & Sunny…Good advice from CG. I usually carry around 2 hard boiled eggs ???on my fast days when I am out and a large bottle of water of course. Carrot sticks are also great. I keep them in a clip lock bag in a water cooler sleeve (like a stubby holder) with a small bottle of frozen water. Makes them nice and crisp all day and easy to fit into your handbag or in your case back pack etc..
Wishing you the best of luck. YOU CAN DO THIS AND IT DOES GET EASIER THE MORE YOU DO IT.???

Fit. Coffee without cake.. Well done. ???So many occasions in your large family for you to navigate but so much fun..love it.

Kicked my foot on a couch leg yesterday and have woken up with very swollen foot and toes and a huge bruise.. Better get up and get some more ice packs onto it. What a bloody icnonvenience as was planning on getting into lots of exercise. Hopefully will still be able to exercise in the pool. Pales into insignificance though compared to what we all have been through though. Of well. Better get out of bed and start the day. Had a lovely lie in after driving home yesterday.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE DOING A FAST DAY TODAY. SMASH IT!???and we will all be polishing our halo in the morning????

Maratus – another way to monitor progress apart from on the scales is to take body measurements – you will begin to notice a difference there too, often when the scales is not moving the tape measure does! Your body will begin to change shape and clothes will fit better; we have all experienced this, so you can look forward to that soon!
CG – sorry to hear you are not feeling the best and hope it soon passes. Vertigo is a horrible complaint, do you have medication for it? Never apologize for offloading here, that’s what we’re for. I hope everything goes as well as possible for your GD and that the operation is a complete success. It’s a very scary and worrying time for you all. I’m sure you will be well enough to go and support your daughter. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. ((((( )))))
Sunny – best of luck for your second fast….you’re on your way!

Hi all. Regarding fruit, I used to eat an orange on fast days to help me through but now find I can go without. It is amazing how our bodies learn to deal with less food quite happily after a short time.

I am going to try and post a pic, I now remember how to upload to photo bucket , just have to remember how to get it here. It was taken yesterday. I am putting it up to show the newer members the results and I am going to try and put up an older photo from before as well… much as I hate to do so! I am close to goal but you can’t see the middle that doesn’t look so hot when I am seated!

PH – our posts crossed. Well, my halo is positively glowing now, because my OH arrived home with a huge toblerone for me and also a packet of mints, which we find addictive and eat all the time when we’re in France, and I have put them all away in the cupboard!!!!!!

Hello everyone. Welcome Maratus. It’s nice to have a young keen mind with us. Gypsy thanks for advice on antinflammatories. Yes I know they are not good so only plan to take them TDS for another 24 hrs. The swelling is already much improved and I’m feeling quite chipper. I will ask for an X Ray if the problem persists. My fear is that the prosthesis has deteriorated and I need more surgery. I’m very reluctant to have yet another op. CG I’m so sorry about your GD – is that your granddaughter? Does she has scoliosis? The poor thing, that sounds awful. I hope her operation will be a great success.
Well I too pigged out last night. I Found half a jar of crunchy peanut butter and demolished it. So plan B , do not buy anything that is going to be a temptation. FD here. I’m going to be ever so slightly over 500 calories but that’s not too bad. I’m going grocery shopping tomorrow and have a list of good healthy, low calorie foods. Mostly salad veg and the like. Enjoy your day team and remember – it’s just for today.
    XX Doggy
    ????

Wow, Up! You look fantastic, positively skinny!! Is that your gorgeous daughter with you? What a beauty! You sure are an inspiration to everyone starting out on this fab way of life. Woohooo, what a birthday! πŸ™‚
Doggy – sorry that your knee is not improving much, best to get answers as soon as possible so that you can make the right decision about how to proceed if things don’t start looking any better. Take care xx

Oh wow Up, what a testament to our WOL, you look fantastic.
Hi Doggy, yes scoliosis actually found by a masseuse, she kept asked her mum if she could get a massage and after such fantastic exam results my daughter shouted her one. They suggested she get X-rays and it snowballed from there. The family doctor got straight onto the RCH who in turn marked it urgent. So in the last few months it’s been all go. She had her pre op last week. My daughter felt awfully guilty but the surgeon put her mind at rest, my grand daughter doesn’t stoop much, but her spine is a definite “S” they are expecting the rods to go down to S3! So a very big op. I just spoke to my daughter and will go down Thursday (op day) and have my grand son stay with me at my sons till Saturday so the parents can be with her. My GS will/should be able to see her Sat, but could be pretty traumatic, so we’ll see. He’s 13. I stay at my sons as there is room for the boys, he has a big yard, and my daughter has a cat! I’m seeing my Dr, tomorrow, need to me over what I have to be a strength to all involved ? xxxxx

By the way, not fasting today team, had a good PC day yesterday, but just so not up to it today. I feel like I need food going through me! Xxxxxxxx

Morning all. CG, I can imagine your worry over your GD’s up coming op. If it is any consolation, I’ve seen that procedure have really positive results on several occasions, both on the wards and via boarding students I had charge of, before and after. The pain aspect is pretty well handled initially by epidural infusion and the transformation to upright from the twisted torture she’s going through now, is little short of miraculous. So that’s your focus. She doesn’t need to see negative worry from her family. A hard call, but you can put on your cardiac arrest hat and do it. The rest will follow the example you set. (don’t we all?). Remember, it’s not about how others fear for themselves, it’s about how she needs to feel. Positive, excited and looking forward to the end result.

We think we know what a disabled person is going through, but, as close as we may be, we can never really tap their dreams of being able to do the simple stuff (like standing up straight) we all take for Granted. Guaranteed, Your little girl is in teenage hell as she is, she must be so hopeful, yet afraid at the same time. And much of her outlook is governed by the vibes around her. She will want to be excited and focused on the aspect that all girls share , (even us) She’s going to LOOK BETTER as well as feel better. That’s the magic wand that will carry her through. So foster it. We all go through hell for our vanity on a good day! She is no stranger to (increasing) pain as her norm. Having a positive reason for it will be a breeze if she’s in the right FRAME, of mind AND body. The best way to help her is to celebrate this wonderful, transforming event. Go buy her some beautiful, glamorous bed attire and focus on dreams of her dancing at her prom. She’s a precious butterfly about to emerge out of her chrysalis. At 14 she’s facing the verge of womanhood, let that be her challenge, not the op. it’s just a stepping stone. Talk about what it leads to. And your daughter is the one you need to bolster the most. She’s the closest influence.
As you worry about your daughter AND GD, it magnifies down the line. The buck stops with you, Granny. I don’t have to know your kids to know they look to you, the powerhouse of comfort who raised them, for attitudinal leadership. They trust your judgement and your attitude is their Guide. If you need the more solid ground than that to take a stand on, get the op stats (try Google) or ask her surgeon first hand what her degree of difficulty is. If you are going to bluff it, then know your apples (you know the drill) and don’t let unfounded fears escalate. I’m quite confident for her outcome. In my experience, the kids go on to thrive in all aspects. And you are right to drop your guts on us. Isn’t this the whole purpose of the support group, you, yourself, gifted to us losers?

Chin up, Boss, I have a stress tonic on hand if it all gets too much on the straight! . hugs xxxGyps

Thanks Gyps, your such a blessing. I bluffed my pain for her, knowing what I went through, and mainly nerve pain which she won’t get, was minimum to what’s ahead. She really hasn’t been in pain, just stiff, she’s taller than me, I’m 5’4″ but we keep telling her how so much taller she will be. The surgeon is very positive of a successful outcome, it’s just seeing those you love in pain, as I did with my daughter when she gave birth to both her kids. Trying to put that brave, well done, smile on, isn’t always easy and the tears are of course in private. Tegan is such a gentle, lady like girl, softly spoken, extremely studious, but goes about it quietly with interest. They expect she could do half days at school in 4 weeks, which she’s thrilled about too. And she is quite popular so her friends will be using social media to stay in touch and cheer her up. Your right, they do look to me for guidance and as you know,I always show a positive reaction, even if I have doubts, but with this, no doubts at all, it’s a must do and will improve her life span pain free and trouble free. ….thanks for being there Matron/ my friend xxxxxx

Oh, and get that tonic ready, could be needed real soon ☺️ xxxxx

What a wonderful inspiring post gyps. Your not just a pretty face. Such wonderful advice for CG. It says it all. ???

Up. You look absolutely fantastic , what an inspiration, and what a beautiful daughter. Certainly inspired me to stick with the program. ???

Have decided to postpone my fast day till tomorrow. Have to go shopping as we cleaned out the fridge before we went away and not much in there for fast days. No eggs, no carrots etc. will have a super good PC day instead.

Fit. Your halo is certainly getting a workout. What self control with the sweet treats. ?????

My daughters first question about post op…will she be able to tie her shoes eventually ? yes to all questions asked and nothing negative, so positive vibes all round. The only thing forbidden is sky diving and bungee jumping hehe, much to my daughter disappointment as she did it for her 40th and loved it, can you imagine why anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane? Xxxxxx

so CG, our posts crossed and it appears your GD is no where near as badly bent as I raved about. Certainly not as bad as I’ve seen do well (one boy was bent at right angles from the lumbar spine and was permanently facing the ground) So you have every reason to be positive. BTW, your sinus is likely allergy based, Have you tried Beconase nasal spray? (melts catahrr and opens swollen nasal passages) and lay off dairy for a bit (makes mucous thick ‘n’ sticky) …. there, that’s killed my appetite! It’s all good!

FIT, glad you got back on the horse! I must make an effort to curb my wafties for a bit. It’s the reason I can’t successfully write a sussinct (can’t even spell it!) marketable novel. They all branch off into epic sagas! Pity I never stayed put long enough to attend any school for long. Need an editor!

UP, you look so great! Certainly is an inspiration to us. and your daughter is so like you. Beautiful!

Have to go get some house work done, it’s finally stopped raining.. Happy fasting all, Just stick with it Sunshine, you’ll be glad you did. cheers! Gyps

Thanks Gypsy, I have been trying to email you but bigpond are having problems, so it might come through to you later ☺️ xxxx

HI all I’m baaack! Visitors gone shopping & then leaving. Had a great time together though must admit after they went to bed last night I had to have a glass of wine. This teetotal lark has been rather hard to take! But I went that way cos I thought it would help balance out the extra calories & it did!
Up you look fantastic and such a transformation!! Well done you! Gorgeous daughter too. Fit have you stopped polishing your halo yet??? Such control – unheard of but obviously you CAN do it.
CG here’s hoping that your dr sorts out your sinus/allergies & gets you fit as a fiddle again ready to be the super support person that you are – not just to your family! Don’t go moving any more heavy pots though. Sending positive thoughts your way for the GD’s op & a great outcome for her. Gyps such sage advice as always – you’re a true gem.
SS all the best with your second FD. If you follow the 4 P’s you’ve probably heard of you’ll do just fine: plan prepare persistence & patience. That covers ALL aspects of 5:2 that will ensure you meet your goal.
PH loved your great last paragraph – so encouraging to us all. Do hope your foot/toes get better real soon. I tripped last week on the electric blanket cord while making the bed. Had a very sore knee & a carpet burn on my arm – not funny but nearly better now. So glad I didn’t hit the furniture when I went down.
Doggy such positive vibes from you too. And you’re feeling chipper that’s great! You’ve obviously got back on the horse with no problems….your day all planned out.
Maratus how did your Sunday fast go – good???
Change we all have social events that come up. Don’t let them derail you. We’ve found that it doesn’t matter for such events if you end up sticking closely to your plan/choosing to do PC portion control but enjoy a little/or totally letting your head go (as we all do from time to time!). So long as you get straight back onto 5:2 as you have – no biggie. And don’t let the guilts get to you.

Have a beautiful day here – I have to get used to the fact that most of you are all now 3 or so hours ahead of me. I mean it’s only 10.30 here & you’ve all had lunch I guess. I’ll have to try & post earlier. Have my FD mapped out and won’t be too much drama after our visitors as they are such careful eaters so we’ve been very restrained! No wonder my friend is so super slim!! But she also eats a LOT I was quite surprised – in the genes I guess. Has porridge AND scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast. I’d be even bigger if I had done that!

Have a super FD or PC day everyone. We know we can do it, we’ve done it before, even our newbies are doing well. And don’t forget we have Up’s super photos to spur us on with our day!!! Nice to be back all. suejen XXXX

Hi, thanks, yes, that is my daughter. I am glad it may have helped PH!
    You can do it too!

CG, just back on to say all the best for your granddaughter’s surgery.

And Fit, well done. I said no to free tiny snickers at the vet’s and just took the free dog treats.I think it is good for me to look at my own photos too. It puts things into perspective when you are beating yourself up about lack of progress. I am going to have trouble fasting twice again this week and it may only be once, so will have to be mindful.

Hubby has just returned from shopping.. Think I can do FD after all. What a man!!. Getting out the polishing cloth for the halo!!???

PH what a gem! Good on you for reorganising your day into a FD. XX

UT you’re setting the bar VERY high – not sure I can follow! XX

    Hi All!
Trying not to feel too smug about avoiding all those goodies, but also mindful of the fact that they are sitting in the cupboard and there are six days left to the wedding!!! Must remember that ‘pride cometh before a fall’ and so – focus, focus, focus! Think of Up in her beautiful photo and think about posting a photo to all of you in my wedding finery…..can’t let the side down!!!!
CG – hope your GP gets you fit and well to be there for your daughter, GD and family. Knowing your positive, kick-ass attitude, you will make sure to be in the best shape possible by next Thursday. Modern medicine is amazing and her surgeon is very positive, so hold on to that and have faith that all will be well. Gyps is right too, as usual, about how to keep your GD looking to the future and concentrating on all the good outcomes for her when the surgery is over. Sending loving, positive vibes to you and all the family. Xxxxxxxx
Gyps – you are a star; your advice is both practical and inspiring – not to mention heart-warming. You say all the things I wish I had thought of! Don’t you dare give up on the ‘wafties’; I love when you go off on a tangent; it’s brilliant – a real, magical, mystery tour! Xxxx
PH – thanks for kind words and well done for going for FD after all, best of luck! πŸ™‚
SJ – sounds like you had a terrific time with your pals and also a well-earned glass or two πŸ˜‰ I’m hoping my halo doesn’t slip for the rest of the week, but God knows what will happen after that; it might not be pretty! πŸ™‚ I’m picturing myself sitting in the corner clutching toblerone with a wild look in my eye and rambling on like Gollem in Lord of the Rings about ‘my precious’! πŸ˜†
Best of luck, Up, with getting back to the fasting. I know you can do it! πŸ™‚ Remember the race is on!!!
Have a great week, everyone. WE CAN DO THIS! BRING IT ON!!!

Another successful fast day under the belt. ??????Will hopefully go somewhere in making up for last week. Am trying not to weigh till Friday to get back on track. Wonder how my willpower will go tomorrow morning..can I do it? That is the question..

Hope everyone had a good FD if you were trying or a good PC day if not.

FIT..YOU CAN BE GOOD FOR A WEEK. I know you can!! GO FOR IT.. imagine yourself in that lovely wedding outfit! And then the reward waiting for you in the cupboard next week. ???clapping you on.

Time for the land of nod over here. ??????????

Aw, thanks PH! All encouragement gratefully received!! Well done on your successful fast, you’re flying!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Best of luck with the weigh-in on Friday….I know you can do it too! Sorry I can’t do any fancy fancy emoticons – just doing this on an ordinary pc but imagine all sorts of hearts, hands clapping, cheering faces, party poppers, marching band etc etc etc!!! πŸ˜†

Gad ,Fit, you are such a comedian! I fear you quite lead me astray! I am cackling at the vision of you wild eyed, clutching ‘precious’! Ta for the nice words. It’s not as if YOU’RE ever short of the right thing to say! I have no doubt you’ll hold out til the wedding and you deserve the aftermath (Foooood) Would love to be a fly on the wall at an Irish wedding, can just imagine the shindigs! Do you have jigs and tin whistles? So love traditional Irish music. Have a goooood time for me. Full report required. and definitely want to see YOUR wedding photo!

Cg, Got your Email, Glad they are on the ball re postop chest physio. We’ll all be thinking of you and your family on Thursday. You’ll be fine as soon as you can get down there and do what granny’s do – make the world go round in an orderly fashion. Or else! I don’t think any gaps in their needs will slip by you. Breathe, yourself! Won’t we all have a lot of history by reunion time!

PH, glad you salvaged your FD. I made a big batch of tabouli with all my tomatoes and garden herbs, red onion and greens. It has a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice and cumin seeds. No idea how many cals, but hoping it’s not too bad. went really well with tinned salmon.

SJ, commendable. Your dry weekend earns you brownie points in my book. I have friends who only drink tea water or more tea. Lovely to see them, but I am always hanging out for something stronger by the time they leave. I am not confident about the 5 kilo challenge (Which, madam Secretary, you have studiously ignored, I note!) Could we make it 2 kgs? My bloody scales keep bouncing back to 86 no matter what I do!

Dawg, fingers crossed your knee settles. Such a bugger when we start to wear out. Roll on robotics! I’m sure they’ll be able to replace all our worn bits soon. A whole new body with a brain transplant? Please!

How you going with your fast, Sunshine?

Maratus? Change? Report, girls. I’m off to watch a movie. Have a good nite all, xxxgyps

I am still having trouble with OPTUS! so it looks like I will be posting late into the wee hours until they sort out their network problems.
UP- You have certainly raised the bar! you are looking dam fine and your daughter is also a true beauty . Well done.
PH -well done on your fast day. AND of course your willpower will stand you strong.
FIT- you do crack me up also….Thank heavens the toberlorone did not win! we want you looking your best for the Wedding.
Doggy- I am a big fan of Nora Roberts and her alis pen name JD ROBB. not into her lovey dovey stories really… love her fantasy writings.
My fast went well today….loving my salads and stir frys again.
Enjoy NFD tomorrow and remember the PC…….GO GAL XXXX

Hi GG! Hope you get your network problems sorted, we can’t have you disappearing on us!! I’m trying hard not to think about the contents of that cupboard!!!! ‘Get thee behind me, Satan’!!!! Will be doing lots of housework this week to keep busy, work off a few calories and avoid temptation!! Wish me luck! XXXX

Sorry Gyps Madam Secretary hasn’t been ignoring you. It’s just that I’ve been on & off the forum so much lately that I don’t remember reading of a 5 kilo challenge? Tell me about it again(if you already have – yeah I too need the brain replacement). 5 kilos by when exactly?
GG I’m with you on that one – so loving my stir fries & salads again. Had tassie salmon for dinner with silver beet & carrots. Salmon marinated & cooked with lemon & honey…..Yummy!! Finished my FD at 472 cals with 2 cups of what’s fast becoming my favourite – licorice tea, such a sweet hit & less cals than a hot choc.
PH glad you had a successful FD again. Don’t fuss over last week’s indulgences…that’s long gone & should be forgotten. Just look ahead & picture yourself slimmer & healthier. Got the vision yet?????
Ha Fit you had me in stitches over your Precious!! You can say whatever you LIKE to the Toblerone AFTER the wedding my girl. You need to fit into what I imagine is a gorgeous dress & accessories to match – no Toblerones just yet. A pic is compulsory too.

Well off to bed time for me. Have an interesting day coming up tomorrow with my school buses job. They’ve changed everything around & it could be bedlam! it will be the first day back for most kids & they won’t know which bus they’re to catch.

Going to go to bed dreaming of what I might have for brekky, lunch & dinner tomorrow as I’m quite hungry so the only answer is bed!! suejen XXXX

Hi all. I’ve just finished a real 2 day fast for a colonoscopy!!!The first day I was only allowed to eat clear fluids, rice, pasta etc. no veges no meat no dairy. THAT was hard work. The second day I was only allowed clear fluids. I even had to strain a stock cube to drink it for the procedure. Thank God that’s over. But I did loose 2kg in the process which proved to me that the 5:2 diet could actually work. That’s why I’ve looked it up again. The fact that you can pick which days to do the 500 cals on is encouraging. I know that on the Saturday of my other fast it was really hard to not have dairy on toast, or milk in coffee/tea. But the recipes that this diet includes for those 2 fast days look really appetising. Also I’ve read a few items lately that if you eat a meal very slowly for at least 20 minutes your body will tell you are full and you may not even have finished your meal. Anyway I’m starting tomorrow with my daughter who also faces the same weight problem. Its great that this thread is Ozzie too.:)
