  • Good morning all, lovely to read of all your “doings”. I will gradually get to know you as we go through this journey together.

I am fasting again today, second one. Still haven’t decided which days to set but Tuesday and Friday are looking good I think. I haven’t got on the scales since day 1 but would like to think there has been at least a small change downwards going into my 4th day of this, but I feel thinner in my head and realise that this is because I feel in control of my eating again after a long while of NOT. Today is linedance class followed by a visit to my Dad who will be 100 years old in 2 weeks!!!

Looks like a nice day outside here. This week our forecast max temps are all high teens with a 20 thrown in here and there…nice! I agree with a previous poster about climate change, the reasons for and effects of, which are going to become far more serious as time goes on unless something is done quickly…what sort of climate will our greatgrandchildren and beyond be living in, I wonder.

    Have a good one ladies

Hi JB – you are really doing well and I’m sure you have lost after four successful days. How marvellous to still have your dad at 100 years of age… that’s cool! 😎 I love dancing too, it’s good for the body and the soul. πŸ™‚ My sister and I go to ballroom and latin classes once a week and we have lots of laughs there, especially when we make mistakes, which is alot!! πŸ˜† Our forecast is quite good for the rest of the week, so I’m looking forward to getting out for some much-needed sunshine πŸ™‚

How exciting overseas travel, long awaited surgery, fabulous recipe ideas, hot Hugh *swoon*, easy fast days, tricky fast days, and all the rest! You lovely folks visit so many ideas in your discussions.

I am particularly interested in dealing with plateaus at the moment. My instinct is to just ride the slow bit of the roller coaster, and be glad to be on the ride. The next exciting bit can’t be too far away, but it is the anticipation (or rather impatience) that gets me. Tips? Tricks?

On the upside, I have a few people asking me how to get started on 5:2. I am very excited for them, and I hope having the experience of the plateau (hopefully over with by the time any of them might find themselves there), will allow me to be a support through the slow phase. Just the motivation I need to steel my resolve. Mind you, the habit of fasting is well established for me, and I look forward to it. I just need a tweak, or maybe just a touch of extra patience to reach the next shift. Tweaks? Spare patience, hehe?

A quote to remind myself about not wishing the journey away (as that is a lot of a life to be wishing away, just like CG regularly reminds us!).

β€œIt is good to have an end to journey toward,
but it is the journey that matters in the end.”
    ― Ursula K. Le Guin

    Happy Tuesday all.

Plateaus are awful. Mine has been going since April, my second long one. I don’t gain or lose Moongal. I tried 4:3 nothing! I over indulged this past week end hoping the metabolism might kick start so will see what weeks end brings. Everyone seems to have theories but they are just a fact of life. Our weight just stabilises and I guess if nothing changes in our eating neither will the weight. We can only eat low cals enough to sustain us and go no further. I can’t eat any less than I do! So sticking with it, I know in the past it started moving after three months so it will again. I’m not stuck at a heavy weight but get awfully frustrated with myself. I love seeing others having great results and really feel happy for them but become self critical, yet happy with this way of eating. If I’ve come to the end of my weight loss I have to accept it and be satisfies with 25k gone but no more, buggar! This IS a way of life, 12 months of brain washing so will NOT go back to old ways of eating (felt sick over indulging on food over the weekend) my stomach can’t handle it now πŸ™‚ So if you are stuck, hang in there, we all like to see rewards on the scales, but just knowing things are happening inside should be enough, but it isn’t always πŸ™ I think staying away from the scales will help me too, they are controlling and NOTHING will dampen my enthusiasm so why let them πŸ™‚ so no more weighing till Friday. I’ll fast again Thursday, refusing to make this difficult so two fast per week are enough and controlled portions on regular days.
Happy day team, a lot of you will be cursing yourself over what you had on the weekend, but remember the pleasure it bought you, get back on the horse and away we go πŸ™‚ xxxxx

    Hello all,

I am sorry to have been out of contact, but so much to do and so little time to do it in. Pulled out the front lawn and put in a garden. Rebuilt a fence and gate. I have not been fasting this past couple of weeks. My Naturpoathic doc wanted me to suspend that and do some testing to determine whats going on with me. But will be able to resume this week.
you all may find this amusing but I was told to eat by this doctor. It would seem that while we are trying to determine what foods are potentially inflammatory for me, I have to eat them in order to do the testing for them. I spent three months removing them. Now, you might think this was great news for me. It was for about 2 hours. Then I ate wheat. Yikes! Didn’t feel good. And what I thought would be a fun reprieve has actually not been that fun at all. I am so looking forward to this test tomorrow and going back to the IF and sensible eating. I am bloated up like a ball and it has flared up symptoms for me.
It’s also interesting to me how many doctors really don’t know that much about IF. My oncologist has a passing knowledge of it, although he does do Paleo at
    least.
My Naturopath has done fasting and some of the really intense stuff where you check in and are monitored in a facility and everything in between because she wants to know what she is prescribing for people. About a month back I noticed that I was stalled in terms of weight loss and I went from feeling good to not feeling good. I believe that I was under eating and my metabolism and hormones did not appreciate it. I then turned to a high fat low carb system that I had read quite a bit about. I think there are a couple of folks on this site who do that? I found it hard at times. I am not used to eating like that and felt very sluggish on some days and quite good the next. Still, I am determined to find a way of eating that will support my health and will keep at it. Very happy to have a doctor helping me with it. There are probably some easy fixes that I can make.
Looks like it is morning for you all there. I hope you all have a great day. Very hot here in Portland Oregon. Third day in a row with over 90 degree weather. Sorry, not sure how that translates your end of the world. Let’s just say it’s hot here. R

    Good Morning Gang
Sorry I have been MIA. Lots to catch up for me, But a quick scan of last 3 pages tells me that we have new members;- Welcome JB, and good to hear back from you Moongal.
Quickly looked at previous page and Fit, please don’t be critical of your arms. If you think that overall you look good in one shoulder dress, go for it.
I know what you mean as I had the same dilemma when I was choosing a dress for my son’s 4th birthday party. I ended up choosing one shoulder dress. My hubby got me to wear it, but when I look back at pictures, I think that it was a good decision. I don’t care if someone was shallow enough to look at just my arms.
    i surely felt very confident.
Here’s the picture (sorry had to crop Hubby’s pic as he doesn’t like his pics to be shared on open forums)

     photo C1F60A79-8A9A-40E6-8093-E68ACA8B71F4_zpshind7plp.jpg

My long weekend was spent in Sydney as Hubby decided to put everyone in the car for a 9 hour journey and off we went for a flying trip to Sydney. And what a beautiful time to visit Sydney during Vivid Sydney Festival.

Also, I came back home with 1.5 kilo increase in weight..Oops.. so fasting today and tomorrow to fix the damage done by beers and chips and breads…LOL

    Raven, our posts just crossed.
I am sorry that you are feeling that way It definitely does not feel good or comfortable to be bloated. However, you have a doctor taking charge of things, so once the testing is done, you will at least have the clarity of what not to eat…All the best with testing…
Fit, I just looked at my picture after posting on this thread again. If i look only at my arms (flab everywhere), I would still say no to one shoulder (for myself). But the point is that I like the overall look of this dress and that’s what is important.
PS: I am 73.5 kilos at the time when that picture was taken…

Wow, I think you look great, and such a lovely color on you.

    Raven

Good morning all, off line due to long weekend, slowly catching up on all the posts.

Fit/FB – I to hate my arms, I have done all my life, even though when I was younger they were not like they are now. When at work or out, I wear clothes to cover my arms as I am so paranoid that people are looking at them. Something that I have to get over. FB, your arms look fabulous in that dress!

After all my eating and dringing on the weekend, I am happy to say that I only put on 1.5kgs. I am going to lose that this week hopefully.

Welcome and good luck to all the newbies on this WOL. It is great. πŸ™‚

CG – at least you lost all that weight initially, I just cannot get under 78kgs. Pssst, little secret, I know that it is all my own doing as I am eating and drinking the wrong things sometimes LOL. I will get there.

I quickly read who was travelling where and I hope you have a wonderful time, I cannot wait to retire so that I can travel more.

FD today and Thursday this week, all the best for the week everyone.

    xx

SJ – just saw your post on where everyone lives, please add my name – Carol

It is great to see everyones names

FB, I can’t get the pic to open, it comes up that it was removed….hope you are well, what a lovely surprise going to Sydney πŸ™‚ xxxxx
Love the “only put on 1.5k…..that’s where I go wrong, I’m more yikes!!! 1.5k up!!
See mind control, it’s the same issue different approach! Xxxxxx

CG, i dont know there is something wrong with my damn photobucket acct.I have created another account still same issue.
Anyways, I know that 1.5 kgs is water and food still passing through. One week of 5:2 or 4:3 will fix it for sure. We all have been there before, and we know it works. So, now I am not going to get me emotionally.
I felt good and confident in my new leather skirt when I went to Opera bar with hubby’s friends. Everyone complimented me for the weight loss and I had hell of a time both Saturday and Sunday night.
Here I am in my leather skirt (inspired by GG).
It looked better in real as the picture was clicked in dark. Hubby rarely throws a compliment at me.
When I wore this skirt, he complimented at least 4 times. So, that’s something to be happy for me.. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Don’t worry CG, its just a mind tweak. i am sure that I will be in “yikes” mode sometime soon. Will have to hit this thread with rants to get the support at that time..Ha ha ha
Its just being human, isnt it?????

     photo B4682938-87BA-465D-B56E-9FD2F54E8F3A_zpsxgv0hpws.jpg

Raven what a fantastic job you have done and so rewarding, I bet it looks lovely.
JB, fancy your Dad reaching 100, you are so lucky to still have him. Does he still have his facilities and reasonable health?
Fit, I have the same problem with MFP, how can the same food be listed so many times and record different cals? You would think the producers would check that and try to stay on top of it. Grrrr. It’s quite confusing, I guess they are all posted over time by users and just not checked for facts.
Raven good luck with the long road of tests, frustrating but so worth while if they get to the bottom of things πŸ™‚
Having my morning cuppa now (one of many) then into the ironing, enjoy your day team πŸ™‚ xxxxx

You look wonderful FB, and compliments a plenty from hubby wow. It was DiiP that said only 1.5k up, but of course your right, basically all fluid and gone by the end of the week πŸ™‚ 1.5k seems to be the common theme/gain for indulging over weekends πŸ™‚ xxxx

Hi from a ratty doggy. Is just typed up a storm and I clicked on something my mistake and it all dissapeared. To top,off our vile gales yesterday we had a power outage just as I was About to sit down and watch my favourite TV show. Luckily I had torches, candles and matches handy for this. We both gave up and had a very early night. No heating in the bedroom, no electric blanket. I went to bed wearing PJs under a winter nightie and was still cold. I them felt guilty because I know that there are many less fortunate than myself and go to bed cold and hungry every night.
UP your travel plans sound exciting. I’ve not been to Finland or Russia. Enjoy the food I say and start again when you get back home again. MoonGal love the quote. FB you look great. I’m not surprised you got ++ compliments. CG you Are so right. It’s not always easy to buy off the peg clothes that suit every shape and size. I’m my slim days I could buy Miss Petite clothes that always looked tailored and smart. Not anymore. I like your ideas about changing the way a top looks. I do remember those days too. I also like scarves. Some people have a knack with them and they look fab. I’m not. One of them though. I have enough scarves but lack the technique. Even after watching uTube.
Enjoy the day team. Normal eating here for me and I have the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread to go with my soup for lunch. I think I see a glass or two of Sav Blanc too for later in the day.
    XX Doggy

Mmmmm like your thinking Doggy, it’s only 11.30am still vey blowy and cold so just had a cup of soup with a slice of bread, butter and a slice of low fat cheese. Oh boy I enjoyed it, I was feeling weak from hunger. Winter fasting is not all that easy. I’ll have to rethink breaky I think, maybe oats, to stop the want to pick. πŸ™‚ One coffee (white) then a black tea hasn’t done it for me this morning πŸ™ and usually after a fast I’m not hungry. I’ll go up to the store to get mail then back into the ironing to keep busy. The house is lovely and warm and sun beaming in all the windows. Hoping you are the same, what a bummer, no heat on a night like that. I hope your day picks up Doggy πŸ™‚ xxx

Morning team yes 1.6kg gain for me over the weekend. But seriously when I think of it as an indulgent weekend it wasn’t actually…compared to “the good old days” (nothing good about them though as far as weight goes!). I think that mentally we eventually put the brakes on with 5:2…….just not always LOL, and so long as we enjoyed our food without guilt that’s an important lesson in our journey. Big events/social events/family events/special occasions all happen on our journey and we should and DO enjoy the delicious food that comes with them. Why not? 5:2 is not a life sentence or meant to be deprivation either. With our WOL the weight does just drop off pretty easily let’s face it. Even a blowout is easily fixed up. So long as we stick with the 5:2 WOE.
Today we have friends coming for dinner so I’m planning what to have & cooking up a nice meal including dessert (Oooh my OH so loves it when we have guests – almost the only time he gets dessert unless he buys it). Will also be a glass of wine or two so being careful until dinnertime to minimise the damage. Will also add in a good one hour walk to help – lovely weather here in the SW today so will soak up some sunshine while it’s here.
Doggy I too LOVE scarves (have 3 small stacking containers of them) but am also not gifted shall we say when wearing them! And that’s also despite watching videos. I’ve bought lots overseas as they’re so easy to add into your luggage, & then I love wearing one and thinking Mmm bought this in Paris etc. Do get compliments on my scarves though so obviously my lack of skill doesn’t matter. Doggy hope you eventually slept OK.
Fit wear your one shoulder dress and to hell with what anyone thinks…that is of course, so long as YOU feel you look good in it. Gee not too many chances come along in my life where I could wear a one shoulder dress!
FB luv the whole look. Just great! And wowee 4 compliments…that must be a record!!
DiiP or Carol will add your name to the list & post in a week or so.
Raven sorry to hear that you’re going through the mill with foods & working out what triggers you, but sounds like you’re in good hands. And despite the way you’re feeling you’ve obviously managed to renovate your yard at the same time!

Moongal you said it so well “My instinct is to just ride the slow bit of the roller coaster, and be glad to be on the ride. The next exciting bit can’t be too far away.” Maybe we could make some of this our mantra ladies?! While you’re asking for help with plateaus MG I think you’ve already got it sussed.
JB what a fantastic start to this WOL. You already feel like you’re in control of food for once in your life. It’s an ahah moment isn’t it & you’ll have a loss for sure. Gotta close now. Monologue over.
suejen XXX #enjoy your day and don’t wish it away#

Hi all. Currently at Heathrow airport waiting for my 3rd flight. I don’t have any sense of what time it is in Oz as I flew from Montreal to Toronto, from Toronto to London and soon to Helsinki. Am feeling pretty wiped out and not even going to think about food and weight let alone write about it.
However, Raven, I know of a few doctors who are recommending 5 /2 to patients. I told my doc that I was going to start it several months ago. It wasn’t his idea but he said it did seem to be one that people could stick to and he was right!
I am one of the people who added in low carb though I’m not sure that I would call my diet high fat by any stretch. I did it to move on from a plateau and haven’t looked back.
I suspect that I have food intolerances and have looked into the FODMAP diet. It was developed by Monash uni and is good for working these things out. You only follow if for 4 to 6 weeks and then start adding in some of the restricted foods to see if you react. It is best done under the guidance of a dietician. Anyway, I found it helpful in working out that I have to be careful about fructose for starters. It is easily googled and it was my GP who first told me about it.

    Hi All!
Great to see so many posts when I log on in the morning πŸ™‚ Thank you everybody for the encouragement to wear the on shouldered dress, so I’m feeling more confident about giving it a go. The lighting should be quite subdued so that could help too!! πŸ˜†
MG – good to hear from you again. I think you are right about plateaus; they come and go for everyone and the only answer seems to be to wait it out and basically be more stubborn than it! I think it can be part of our system to adjust and reset itself along this journey and for some of us that can take several weeks. However, we all know this is a wol so don’t change anything, persevere, and eventually the weight starts to come off again. As CG says, the other changes are happening inside but that can be little comfort when we want to see the scales move. Try some little treat such as new make-up, hair-do, manicure etc to make you feel good in the meantime and stick to your guns!
Raven – so good to get your post too. Sounds like you have been doing an amazing job in your garden; I’m in awe of you! I really hope you get the answer to your food intolerance/allergy so that you can move forward in the way that is best for your health and weight. You are very strong and have come through so much, you can do this! Hope you’re able to enjoy the fruits of your labours in the garden with lovely weather xx
FB – thanks for kind words. Sorry your first photo doesn’t seem to be there any more but in the second one you look fabulous and compliments are well deserved. Glad you had nice long weekend and great attitude to small weight gain, which you know will be gone again in no time.
Doit – I think we are all our own harshest critics and the overall look/feel is more important the one single aspect….so I’ll keep that in mind when I try on my outfits. You’re so right about slight gain when you had great weekend; just get back on the horse and all will be well. πŸ™‚
Poor Doggy – not such a nice weekend for you πŸ™ but well done for thinking of those less fortunate in the middle of all your own woes. Hope things have eased off now and that you are warm and snug. I also have lots of scarves, but I’m not the best at wearing them stylishly, however, they still seem to do the trick! πŸ™‚
CG – hope all is going well with you now; I’m doing a big clear out of old clothes, shoes, bags etc and household linens which badly need to be replaced. My local school, where I used to teach, collects these, as well as shoes and handbags and earns much needed funds by recycling them – so win/win for everyone.
SJ – another great post, I love the ‘to hell with what anyone thinks’!! πŸ˜† You’re a legend!
Up – not surprised that you have no idea of the time as you fly around the world like a whirlwind! I have reduced my carb intake quite considerably too in the last few months and I think that helped when I hit the plateau stage, who knows? Keep telling us all about your travels, it’s amazing!
Beautiful, sunny, warm day here today and the forecast is good for the next few days…woohoo 😎

Just had to check in again guys to tell you about my fantastic day. I did a huge clear-out of my wardrobe, shoe shelves and drawers – then I did my husband’s and my daughter’s too. I now have 9 large sacks filled for recycling and 3 for the charity shop. πŸ™‚ I was feeling very energized so guess what I did next?! ……Drum roll please!!!! I looked up a Hairy Biker’s recipe (dead simple, of course) and made a very tasty chicken dish which my OH and daughter both loved..woohoo!! πŸ˜† Can’t believe it myself – I think it was the sunshine and warmth that gave me the energy and enthusiasm to tackle all these tasks. It just shows how much we have been starved of sunshine here in the NH for the past several months. Also, and this is the big one…..I have broached the subject of going to Oz next year and OH is up for it!!! However, he would prefer to go in March or April, so I’ll keep working on him πŸ™‚

Oh wow Fit, it’s all go on your side of the world. Any chance of sending some of your energy level over to me? πŸ™‚ AND coming to the reunion!!! Extra Wow :). Keep working on him, it usually pays off. Just getting the old clothes packed up is rewarding, more cupboard room etc, but cooking up a storm too…..your not nesting are you ?? πŸ™‚ hehehe
Some days a diamond some days a stone, you are sparkling girlfriend congratulations πŸ™‚
I’m thinking of fasting again today, no pressure but will see how I go, just planned my day on MFP and can manage to fast with my food choices, so will do Friday as well and see if my platuae is moving. I have been low carb pretty much from the beginning so it’s hard to restrict much further. Sure I have the occasional Chat potato, but no lashings of mash as per pre 5:2, but not sulking, just getting on with life in a healthy way πŸ™‚ Rice and pasta is a thing from my past (as much as I love both) and bread is just a memory. The odd time I have it my guilts are awful, mainly because of my love of butter and they do go hand in hand.
Have a great day team, see if we can get some of Fit’s enthusiasm and get stuck into things at work or home. It will help keep us warm πŸ™‚
Happy day team, don’t sweat the small stuff, leave some footprints on the day with achievements πŸ™‚ xxxxxx

Ha ha CG, nesting! That would be a major miracle! πŸ˜† I did get to see fab pictures of my new gorgeous aussie grandnephew though; my sister is just back from seeing him in Sydney…he’s a little beaut! Just remembered I’ll have to do my second fast tomorrow (Wed) too because I’m going to lunch in a fancy restaurant with the others from my french class on Thursday. We’ve just finished classes for the summer so we wanted to have a little get-together before we go our separate ways for the next couple of months. I never eat bread any more either and I have drastically cut back on potatoes which is incredible for me; I used to eat more than my OH! I’m amazed I have managed to resist them as they used to be my all-time favourite veg.

Exactly, spuds were served with EVERY meal, my Dad could just live on them in fact a plate looked bare with out mashed spuds on it. (Peas and mash) We are certainly altering our way of eating. Have a lovely “last” meal together, things like that are usually so much fun πŸ™‚ all the best Fit xxxx

Thanks CG, best of luck if you decide to make it a FD – if anyone can do it, you can xxxx

Hi team! I am back from my travels (not much compared to Uptight, who is still travelling and in Russia now? wow!)
Have a minor head cold and jet lag, but will sort itself out soon. the worst is the digestive system still thinks its in another time zone πŸ™‚
I read all your posts and wow, lost of happenings here !! Fit- hope we get to see you in Australia, but if you miss the reunion, I still hope we can meet some how πŸ™‚
FB – Fabulous photo! Looks like you had fun when you were in Sydney last week πŸ™‚ (this week? not sure)
On Plateaus – CG, don’t stress on it too much, maybe take a break from fasting for a couple of weeks? Just eat normally, like you would if you are on maintenance, but no FDs. When is your op? I have a feeling when you chronic pain reduces and the stress levels go down, the weight will go down by itself. In the meanwhile, enjoy your 25 kilo lighter body ( and how amazing is that, girl??)
Raven- I hope you get some relief on food issues soon πŸ™
SJ – Chuckling at your post, my OH too was defiantly eating a muffin this morning. It was funny how defensive he looked lol. Sometimes I just nag for the heck of it πŸ™‚
Doggy -hope the weather is better for you today… its rainy and wet in Sydney today
Hello to rest of the team too, enjoy the ride (as MG put it, including the slow bits on the roller coaster…)

Lotus welcome home. It will take time I guess to feel normal with our time zone again. I do hope you made some precious memories between work commitments. The head cold I believe is quite normal, firstly from the air con in the plane but the huge weather changes. Rest up, take care of yourself, then back to the slog! πŸ™‚ xxxxx

Hi team, wherever you may be in the world. Up and Lotus. I suffer terribly from jet lag. Also invariably pick up some for of lurgie while flying. It can really put a dampener on a holiday. Well from a windy Tassie we now have a freezing Tassie. We took poor little Pepper to the vet this morning to be desexed. It was 1 degree in St. Helens. I don’t know if he had a canine premonition of what lay in store for him but he woke me at 4.30 am to go out for a wee. Despite it being so cold it was pitch black outside and the stars looked so bright I had the sensation of them being almost close enough to touch.
Re the discussion on low carb eg. Bread and spuds. I still have bread on my NF days but have cut down on the amount. I still occasionally have spuds too. I doubt if I’ve lost any weight so far this week. I’ll wait till
Friday to find out. My darn knee is still painful so I have not been able to get out for a good walk for a good while now. I do think it’s improving though.
    Cheers and enjoy your day.

    Good Morning,

Was able to get my FD in today! After two weeks of no FD’s and eating all sorts of foods due to preparing for a food allergen test it was good to be back in control. It started out rocky, as I felt a bit spacey but I kept with the green tea and Hard boiled egg and feel pretty good going into the evening. I know I can do it today which is a confidence booster. The only real concern I have is that as a therapist I really do need to be “present” and sometimes with the fasting I don’t always feel that way.
Have not gone near a scale and probably won’t. Hope to lose the water gain and the bloated feeling and get back into a routine. I find I do best when I have routines, even with the fun days.

I was preparing to go on a trip in July and so much wanted to lose more weight, but had to give that up when I hit a snag. I realized my health overall is so much more important so am trying to be willing to do what I have to do to figure out whats “ailing” me. I don’t know about you, but I suspect that many of us set goals for weight loss around trips and seeing friends and family and have failed in the past. It’s a losing strategy for self esteem. So I have adopted self compassion in its place and decided whatever it is, it is.

FB – Nice pic! You are taking some beautiful photos. I played around with Photobucket today but still couldn’t figure it out. I will some day soon.

Happy travels to all who are traveling away from home and comfort to those returning home. R

Hi Raven, your right, our body is really in control even if we are in control of our food/fuel. Planning and setting goals are a waste of time usually for that reason. With what you are going through and have been through give yourself a pat on the back and a big cuddle, you deserve it. You are well and healthy most importantly, you are eating with control, don’t be hard on yourself. Appreciate the road you have travelled and how far you have come. πŸ™‚

Doggy just wondering if this cold blast is effecting your knee. Maybe a wheat bag would help πŸ™‚ xxxxx

Morning all.. onto another day. Yesterday with our dinner guests was not a good time eating wise, but a wonderful night with friends. So today I’m just going to work out my day on MFP and try to stick to around 1200 cals or less. I know I’m useless at 4:3 or a B2B so not even going there. We all have to work with what we can handle & I know that I can handle keeping the cals lower than usual but still eat pretty well. And then usual fast tomorrow. If it takes another week to lose anything so be it.

I too still have carbs on my NF days, sometimes even sneak in a LCal recipe that fits in on a FD but not very often – cals usually too high. But I also eat much less. My go-to food if I was feeling a bit hungry or snacky was always a piece of bread/toast with PB/jam/honey etc. Mostly butter too. Now I find I rarely have snacks between meals on any given day & I think that fasting teaches you that, that you don’t HAVE to eat between meals & that you’re not really hungry. so a good lesson to learn.

FB I found the Slendier noodles etc & they were on a special. I read the comments online on the link you pasted & I followed one comment which helped. It said to heat them up in hot water but then to dry stirfry them for as long as you want to get a better/less ‘slimy’texture & it worked. Was worried OH wouldn’t eat them as he hates udon noodles because of their texture, but he said they were OK & ate it all up. A win I say!
Have a determined day all fasting or not & stick to your plan. suejen XX

Lotus to add to your titles, I’d like to add ” Research and publishing officer” you are so resourceful I wonder when you get time for your “normal” job? πŸ™‚ well done xxxxxx

    Hi All!
Welcome back, Lotus – sorry to hear you are not well, I think aeroplanes are the unhealthiest places in the world but I’m sure you’ll shrug if off now you’re back home. Last Sunday, I attended a Mass in memory of all the deceased priests of the missionary order that my uncle was in and met a priest who used to work with him in the 1960’s on the Philippine island of Negros. My brother asked him to email us the names of my uncle’s parishes there and is thinking of going to visit them. The world had truly become such a small place!
Doggy – try a heat pack on your knee, the cold weather definitely gets into the joints and makes any problems worse. I hope Pepper gets over the op ok and is back to his little mischievous self in no time…as long as you don’t have to run around after him! πŸ™‚
Raven – you are a wise old bird!! (Not that you’re old – just a saying!) You have hit the nail on the head about how we set ourselves up to fail by thinking our worth/value is linked to how others see us. It’s a trap we all fall into, so thanks for the timely reminder about what really matters in life….compassion, for ourselves and others. Take care and I hope your health issues are greatly improved very soon. Xx
SJ – I’m with you on the snacking issue; I used to graze practically all day long, but now that I’m getting more used to fasting, I have improved alot. Still learning, but hopefully getting there! πŸ˜‰
CG – did you decide to fast today? I’m giving it a go, although I will be visiting my old school with all my recycled clothes etc and will have to have a cuppa and a catch-up while I’m there! Looking forward to seeing some fabulous ex-colleagues who were a great support to me in stressful times.
The sun is out, the sky is blue….I feel a song coming on…. πŸ˜† Catch up with you all later xxxx

Thanks Fit, feeling better now.. in the defence of the airplane/airport – I was feeling a bit under the weather from Friday itself, its just in and out airconditioning and sultry weather (in Manila). Oh well, minor complaints, first world problems, as they say πŸ™‚ Philippines is a very Catholic country, in our Manila office, they said they have Mass on Wednesday evenings (its not a Christian / religious organisation, but very multicultural and caters various employee needs)

CG – I multitask and read-up while doing other stuff πŸ™‚ LOL

Team, just read this old post I had saved once, and wanted to share with you all (or maybe I have already? not sure – apologies if repeating)

Hi team, hi Fit, yes I have fasted today and really found it quite easy. Been busy with ironing then a bit of sewing, taking up hems on new slacks etc so the day went very quickly. Felt peckish tonight, wanted something sweet so had a hot chocolate after dinner which really did the trick. I had another grrr about 8.00pm but really feel satisfies so no snacking what so ever πŸ™‚ bonus for me because that’s the worst time. Dinner seems to start the hungries even though I’m satisfied with what I eat. Maddening! So day of normal eating tomorrow, which will feel strange being my normal fasting day, then I’ll do another Friday (well plan to πŸ™ ) and maybe weigh Saturday.
Your right Fit, the world is very small these days hence the different foods we eat. So much has become the norm where as my Grand Mother would never have heard of most of it πŸ™‚ It all opens our minds to so much now, other customs etc we all seem so multi cultural. Australia is not the country I grew up in now, so much has changed, so much introduced and so much forgotten. A shame I think sometimes, our own heritage is being lost.
Golly, didn’t mean to go on, verbal diarrhoea again!
Have a great day Fit, team have you planned for tomorrows fast, doesn’t take much YOU CAN DO IT, very cold over might 3 I think locally so plenty of hot liquids πŸ™‚ and stay warm, fasting can make you feel chilly so remember to pack an extra jacket (or your singlet) . Happy evening /day (Fit) nighty nite xxxx

I am putting off weighing in to probably end of this week…

    Nighty nite CG xx

Great link Lotus, thank you xxxxx

Thanks CG! Burning a lot of old CDs in iTunes, and needed some distraction πŸ™‚ LOL, I am that fidgety. Hmmm. Maybe fidgeting burns calories??

Feeling oh so guilty …. 7yr old grandson has been grieving the loss of their cat Max and so together with my youngest granddaughter (who was home from school with a cold) we did a cheer up session at HJ’s. Pinched a couple of fries and they were so fresh, hot and deliciously salty I couldn’t resist and bought myself a small serve. First I’ve had for absolutely ages. Apart from the fries the food just doesn’t appeal but will now have to stop thinking about it and set my mind towards FD tomorrow!

Welcome back Lotus, missed you πŸ™‚ Raven you’ve had a stiff trot recently and have come out with such a great outlook that I’m sure a more relaxed approach must only help particularly with digestion.
Fit I agree with CG, how about sending some of your energy level over here. My sap is dropping – always does with the onset of winter.
SJ good tip with the Slendier noodles, I found them a bit hard to take but will give them another go so I swapped to making ‘zoodles’.
Well, bedtime for me. TTYS YY xx

Yy, guilty isn’t the word I’d use, more pride actually for helping with a heartbreaking situation πŸ™‚ No matter your age the loss of a pet is traumatic and having someone with you, understanding is lovely. For the sake of a bag of chips, which is on a normal day and doubt much harm, you were where you were needed, and the kids will always remember that πŸ™‚
Hi team, fast day for most of you, chin up, soldier on YOU CAN DO IT. Stay away from temptation, there is always tomorrow πŸ™‚ It’s only one day! Remember plenty of fluids, HB egg mid arvo if you are really struggling and stay busy, your day will go quickly enough, but try not to wish it away, it’s a day in your life, so enjoy the challenge with pride πŸ™‚ xxxxxx

    Good Morning Team
Finally, I have been able to log in. I have been trying since yesterday to log into the thread and it was not working. So, couldn’t post anything. However I had responses typed up for everyone and they magically disappeared for me. So, may be second time lucky.
I wouldn’t go into individual responses again, but hello to all and Welcome back Lotus.
Yes, i was in Sydney this gone weekend and loved the weather there. It was sunny, tops of 22 degrees. Not as cold and wet as Melbourne. So, it was wonderful.
I am fasting today as well. So, happy fast day everyone.
I don’t know if any of you saw the program on ABC 2 last night about weight loss surgery. I was so happy to see motivated men and women to make a positive change in their lives.
The doctors actually motivate people to lose weight themselves (with dieting and more movement) before taking up the weight loss surgery as there are some minor risks involved.
It was actually a very inspiring story.

I was so proud of my weight loss, when I saw the doco.
One of the doctors actually mentioned, “Weight loss is no rocket science, diet works for sure. However, if you can maintain it or not, that’s the question…” SO DAMN TRUE!!!

Enjoy the day team and be proud of each and every effort that you make towards a healthier living. WE DESERVE IT!!!

Good morning everyone…I had an early start yesterday and a busy day so didn’t get on here and now I will never catch up on all the posts….you are very prolific on this thread…that is wonderful!!! Love the photo above…gorgeous woman and beautiful backdrop!! What a magnificent harbour Sydney has and to be there during the Vivid Festival must have been awesome!!

Someone asked about my almost 100 year old Dad…he is still very bright in the mind but physically frail in that he does not walk any more and has use of only one arm. He is also rather deaf which makes conversation difficult but he enjoys visitors and takes an interest in the nurses and their doings. It is an amazing age isn’t it? In the same nursing home, there is a lady who is 105…too old for him he reckons πŸ˜€

I am thinking I will make Saturday my weigh in day and my fast days Tuesday and Friday. Do you ladies fast the day before weigh in day? Not sure if it is best to do it that way or not. My Tuesday fast was successful…early days yet though. It is always easy when your motivation is high isn’t it? It is a few weeks down the track when the hard part starts based on my lifelong experience of trying to lose weight. Hope everyone has a great and successful day today.

Good for you CG – I knew you would do it! Sounds like you did pick up some of my energy; altering your trousers and ironing! It definitely pays to keep busy. I found my FD today flew by today; I did some more clearing out and ended up with 11 bags for recycling and 4 for the charity shop. I brought the bags up to the school and had a great chat with former colleagues and lots of lovely pupils. When I came home I did lots of laundry (taking advantage of all the wonderful sunshine). Then I went through my husband’s accounts to chase up payments not received. Finished off by two hours of ballroom dancing..phew!! πŸ™‚ I really believe it’s the effect of the long hours of daylight and sunshine that has me feeling like I can take on the world – so I’m sending good vibes to everyone (especially you, YY) and hope that my burst of energy rubs off on anyone who needs it! πŸ™‚
Lotus – so glad you’re feeling better. Thanks for the link; very interesting reading xx
YY – you sound like the perfect grandmother to me and you chose the heart over the head, which was the right way to go in this instance. Best of luck with FD xx

Good to know you’re back on the air, FB and that you had such a great time in Sydney. You are so right to be proud of yourself and you are giving inspiration to lots of others too.
JB – you are truly lucky to have your dad in such good order at 100 years of age. My dad died at the age of 93, but the last few years were very tough as he had physically and mentally declined. However, we were very lucky to be able to manage to look after him in his own home until the end and that was a privilege and a blessing. Best of luck with your FDs.

Jb it was me who ask about your Dad, my Aunty (Dads Sister) passed last year ONE week before her 98th birthday and had all facilities, lived alone, been a country girl all her life, although IN the town, not on the land. Widowed 40 odd years and a pillar of the town. (Into everything, church etc ) No meds all her life and eventually her heart gave out. She really had the best innings. My Nan, her mum, was 95 same thing, the heart just got tired. Dad was one of 8 …4 boys 4 girls all the boys had heart trouble but the girls, couldn’t stop them! It is a wonderful age, if good health and mind are with it πŸ™‚
Glad your on line FB, good luck to all with fasting, think positive and make it happen πŸ™‚ xxxxx

    Good morning people, happy Thursday…

I am new to this, been reading and watching videos and ready to start. Current weight I don’t know, probably around 80kg but I’m more concerned about the waist – just squeezing into 34’s and would prefer to be at 32 (If something doesn’t change I will be 36 before summer).

Biggest struggle will be avoiding wine with and after dinner on FDs.

Other things worth mentioning… I love a good swig of psyllium husk in the morning before a coffee (metamucil is made from this but I buy the organic stuff so there are no artificial sweeteners etc) – keeps me full for a few hours in the morning as well as keeping “things moving”. This will be handy on FDs – maybe 2x a day instead of once? Anyone using this kind of approach?

Just here for mutual encouragement and people/friends who can keep me on the wagon πŸ™‚

So my first challenge is what to do for lunch today… perhaps a handful of nuts? I like to keep it simple and cheap…

    Anyway hi to all.

Hi Mike and welcome here! It’s great that you feel ready to start on this way of life (wol). We don’t call it a diet, as that sounds like a temporary measure and sets us up for failure when we come off it. Rather, we embrace 5:2 as something we will do for life in one form or another..maybe easing back to 6:1 for maintenance. We all find this wol very adaptable to our lives and schedule…something not really possible with any diet. If you are finding it hard to avoid wine on fast days, try telling yourself ‘I only have to resist for today, I can have some tomorrow’. Have you worked out your TDEE (the amount of calories you can eat on non-fast days)? If not, you can do so in the How It Works section at the top of the page. As for lunch, a hard-boiled egg is filling and low in cals. Best of luck.

Welcome Mike to this WOL. Yes I have the good old Mettamucil and on fast days FD’s when I remember I have it twice a day. Has seemed to help with weight loss a bit as well as the usual benefits. I have a HB egg for both breakfast and lunch and that leaves enough cals for a good dinner with veg and protein.
Morning team ready for another FD? Well for most of us it is and now its like an old comfy pair of slippers you pull on….you know it’ll do the job you know the benefits of it so lets get to it hey! SJ xx

Welcome Mike, Fit has set you on the right track. Most of us like a drink, and you can on your fast day BUT calculate the cals into your total allowance (600) It does take time to get into the swing of 5:2 but becomes habit in the end and you really look forward to fasting πŸ™‚ Men seem to lose so much quicker than women, and once you reach goal, you can do one fast a week maintaining your weight. Ask questions as they come along, and they will good luck, we have weigh in Friday to share our joys and wows πŸ™‚ but also to keep ourselves honest. Go to the tracker at the top of the page and fill it in each week….welcome again CG xx
