Day 10 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Still down south visiting – didi a 16:8 day today as knew tonight was going to be a celebratory meal with old friends – I suspect over my TDEE – but what a fab night………..
Out again tomorrow night……………..oh dear…………..
My BF I’m staying with does not own weighing scales so no idea what is happening to my weight – will weigh when I’m back home Wednesday AM…………..
I am trying to be mindful of my eating habits – time all tell……….
Good luck to all the pocket fasters
Day 11 | Derbyshire UK | NFD
Rough time last few days, beloved aunt has died, I’m not very well and having to drive 360 mile round trips to sort funeral etc. Signing in has become a bit erratic so not sure where I am. Yesterday and today are NFDs. Feeling very sorry for myself. Sorry b2tf if I’m not helping you keep track of me!
Xx
Day 11 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD
Doing well. This morning I noted I’d returned to goal weight. Yay! I hadn’t seen that number in a couple of weeks.
I’m currently reading a really good book called ‘The Appetite Solution’ by Dr. Joe Colella M.D. I have to laugh! I got the book at one of those ‘pop up’ shops that sells cheap books that probably didn’t sell in the more expensive book shops! Anyway, I was perusing a book in that shop about cooking with insects (ants, worms, mealy bugs etc.) and how nutritious they are. I didn’t buy that book but saw this book on ‘appetite’ and after flipping through it, I decided that the $7 it costs was less than half what I’d just paid for lunch, so went ahead and got it! I feel like I’m learning all about the biology of hunger, adaptive thermogenesis and why all calories aren’t the same. I learned that there is a ‘sweet spot’ at the top of the small intestine ready to absorb all simple sugars on their way through the stomach. So, for example, eating a handful of blueberries means that the fiber in the blueberries is still pretty much intact, even though we chew them. When the blueberries pass through the stomach and reach that sweet spot at the top of the intestine, they still need to be broken down further by digestion and so take awhile to absorb. However, if we instead whiz the blueberries into our smoothie, the fiber is broken down and the blueberries basically become predigested for us and when they reach the sweet spot at the start of the small intestine, the sugars are readily available as simple sugars which then lend themselves to spiking blood sugar. Apparently a lot of greens also contain sugars and by whizzing them up into green smoothies the same thing can happen! Interesting stuff!
Day 11: Gloucestershire, Cotswolds, UK: Non-fast day.
Trying not to become an eating-machine on my 2nd non-fast day in a row….the 2nd is always more dangerous than the first, for me anyway.
Hope everyone is feeling positive today….Alexinme…impressive result!
LynzM: Hope you are feeling a bit better today, healthwise.
Diggly: So sorry you are having a difficult time with all that travelling as well. Sad times. Sending you hugs xx
Lael: Good for you, getting back to goal. Staying vigilant now is vital. I know how easy it is to easy to drift. Interesting point about the “sweet spot”. I might try to get hold of that book sometime.
Days 10 & 11 – Melbourne – NFDs
Sorry to miss yesterday, just too much gardening to get done before Christmas!! Eating undoubtedly over my TDEE, although not absolutely overboard. Have 3 separate lots of visitors from today until Christmas, so hoping I can still squeeze in a couple of fasts. I prefer not to say, if possible, so I’m thinking that if I put a huge lot of salad on my plate I might get away with it ๐ค.
@diggly, so sorry to hear of your loss – that bit harder at this time of year. Take care of yourself as you go.
FD Monday – hang in there everyone x
2nd post- just read back over the thread and wanted to add my belated Cheers to the Birthday Gals – and many more just as happy! Also to thank @bert for sharing your moment- ha haaahaa, still laughing that you got your own back! Love a chuckle!
Day 11…. Florida…… NFD
I got up with morning thinking that I forgot to post yesterday. Sorry, to everyone, not sure where my head was at.
I won’t be joining b2b, this week as my husband and I have tomorrow off, and we are taking our youngest out shopping for Christmas. So, I know that, a quick lunch at a fast food joint will be in order.
Not much on the to do list today… it’s a bit cold for my taste so, I’ll stay home in my comfy clothes and clean. Maybe catch the last two episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Wish that when the brought it back, they would have done more than four episodes and didn’t jump around so much….
so that’s that!
Have a great day!
Cheers!
Day 11 USA (snowy Illinois) NFD
Even though it’s a NFD, I am going to do my best to fully curtail calories and carbs. I indulged myself yesterday by eating lunch at KFC. About once a year, I need a fried chicken fix from them, and it was very conveniently located to where I was in town. But according to MFP, I still didn’t go over TDEE even eating there. Yeah!
Lael – most fascinating about what gets whirred up in smoothies. I never have liked them myself, so more ammunition not to blend good qualities out of things!
Bert – I went to my vitamin weekly ‘dispenser’ and saw I didn’t take them yesterday. Must have been a day to forget things!
Off to drive slowly to church to play piano. Snow tires won’t be getting on the car until Thursday, the first appointment I could get, so hopefully I won’t slide into anything this morning.
Onward and downward!
Day 9, 10, 11| Pune, India | NFD
This weekend was better. Remained at TDEE on 2 out of 3 NFDs.

@b2tf – Thanks for the explanation. You have given me a good tool, I am going to try it out. I think bread bloats me, I am going to try how it affects me – after the B2B FD and then try it on NFD.
Day 11– Colorado, USA– NFD
Couple of good things going on here:
1– Feet are healing up nicely from surgery. I’m off crutches & now into those giant plastic walking boots. Yay! Feels so freeing to move around more (I can take stairs standing on my feet instead of scooting on my butt!)
2– Surgeon gave me the okay to exercise a little bit (Much needed as I’ve gotten a bit squishy & flabby.) All approved exercise is done sitting down.
Yesterday, seated on a weight bench, I did all kinds of Upper Body strength training. Today is Abs & Leg day (again done seated on weight machines.)
For cardio, I’m allowed to wear the post-op boots on the recumbent bike at the gym.
3– Even though I’ve been inactive for months due to orthopedic issues with feet, because of 5:2 Intermittent Fasting & this wonderful Forum, I have not gained weight…I’m actually still able to lose. YAY!!
Currently, my fitness levels are in the basement, but I’m addressing it (see # 2 above.) And I’m so pleased to not be fighting extra weight as well, just getting my fitness back! Big WIN.
4– Recovery is going well, so I’m able to stop all post-op meds which means I don’t require 2 full meals each day to protect my gut. I may now return fully to our intermittent fasting.
All the fantastic options of 5:2 or 4:3 or 16:8 or 24 hour fasts or B2B are all available for me to (safely) do again!!!! So on that happy note, I will be joining “The Pocketeers” for the Monday + Tuesday B2B fast this week. I plan to use plain coffee, tea, bone broth & stay well below 500 cals.

I don’t know if it shows, but I’m so happy with this progress, I’m practically giddy!!
It’s like Christmas came early for me! ๐
My apologies if my post sounded a bit like I was gloating. Not meant like that at all.
I know some of you wonderful people here are facing illness (cold, flu, ear infections, sore throat & more) and even worse troubles of death in the family. So I did not mean to offend…. I’ve just been stuck in my house, unable to work (or really do much of anything off the couch) for over 6 weeks now and really just wanted to celebrate my good news a bit.
Thank you for letting me come here & do a virtual Happy Dance with you all. ๐
Day 11 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
@diggly so sorry for your loss. Warm hugs to you xoxo
@happymargo Congratulations! I like that you are happy and want to share it with us. It made me smile outside and feel a warm smile inside ๐ It’s very inspiring too! Glad you are able to join us in the pocketeer challenge.
Day 11, Gozo Malta, NFD
Had a muffin for breakfast, Chinese food with one glass of white sparkling wine and peach and almond crumBle for lunch and went to a reception this evening and ate party food but drunk only water. I went over my TDEE.
Tomorrow I’ll fast till noon then the Eucharistic community I attend every Monday are organising a meal at a restaurant for Christmas.
I hope not too much damage is done today and see the weight I gained tomorrow morning.
Good evening/ night everyone.
Day 12 New Zealand – FD
Backtothefuture – sorry I haven’t been posting, very busy with husband away and lots of end of year activities with the kids. Every day that I haven’t posted have, unfortunately, been NFD’s, often with buffet style food. Have tried to be mindful but lots of temptations, and a bit tired trying to keep all the balls in the air. My hubby doesn’t like working away as he always has to come home to lots of jobs to do, plus this time he will come home after doing lots of long 12+ hour days, so I really want to keep on top of everything if possible. Still Christmas holidays are fast approaching and am looking forward to enjoying the summer break.
Day 12 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Busy day – catching up with old friends and a lovely dinner out tonight – I suspect I exceeded my TDEE – I’m not going to worry – will weigh in on Wednesday when back home after doing a FD on my drive back on Tuesday
No time to read all the posts – will try to catch up when back home later in the week – my best positive thoughts to all
Day 12 FD Wet wet wet country West Australia
Happy Margo so pleased to hear of your progress – great news.
Yesterday’s FD became a NFD but I managed to stay within TDEE – just. Gave in to temptation at church no less!, and had delicious egg sandwiches and Christmas cake for morning tea – usually just have a coffee. Lunch at 3.30 pm with DH ( joys of being a farmer, meal times are sporadic and very movable feasts), smallest slice of fresh cream sponge for dessert with rocky road . Ham and salad roll for dinner.
Hoping to maintain a FD today and not usually a comfort eater but ….. the heavens have opened and after 40C on Saturday and no harvesting due to it being a fire hazard, today is about 19C and pouring rain. This means spoilt grain for the harvest but worse, the dry stubble which is the sheeps’ feed over summer is ruined and a lot like soggy, mushy weetbix so instead of a leisurely summer we will now have to hand feed all our sheep, a long and tedious task for months.๐ข
Apologies for the grumble but seriously to see a whole year’s work literally go down the drain due to a morning of severe frost earlier in the season and now for it to be flooding in summer , well…
Day 10 and 11 – Canada – NFDs.
Cough, cough, must sleep – will write more tomorrow.
Please add me to “The Pocketeers”, starting tomorrow. I need to get back in track after a weekend if freewheeling. ๐ฑ

Day 11 USA, Hawaii NFD
18: 6 today My day off from work so lunch out with husband at an nice little ocean front cafe. We split a rueben sandwich with sweet potato fries… not too healthy or low carb but at least it was only half the order! OH is getting receptive to sharing a meal when we go out. I tell him, if he’s still hungry we can order something more but so far that’s never happened with the portions usually ample for two hungry people. Dinner was a mug of veggie soup with 2 low carb biscuits and gouda cheese. So all in all it wasn’t that bad I guess. Still have another hour or two before eating window closes but will try to keep reasonable if I eat anything more tonight.
Feeling very inspired by everyone’s dedication to this WOL. Prayers and cyber hugs go out as I read the challenges many are facing. Haven’t gotten the skill of mentioning you all by name but I do focus on you as I read your post.
Day 12 – Melbourne – FD
Struggling a bit today with FD but so far haven’t caved, just liquids. Left it till now to log in so that I could pick up all your support and feel the vibe ๐
@happymargo (or Anyone!) – please don’t apologise for telling Happy/Successful/Positive stories, they are uplifting! Just as the challenging stories are also uplifting – because they remind us of our own challenges and prove that we are all human and prone to ups and downs. We are just all hoping that the ups come from the downs – on the scales, that is!
Hi all
Haven’t been as good coming on the thread but have been doing it,was going well till a Christmas do on fri night an when I weighed in was 2 pd heavier so spent the weekend trying to be better got one of those pds off already, I’m doing an FD today, for all you who do btb do you still eat yr 500 cal each day?

Day 12 | Derbyshire UK | NFD
Thank you so much to all who have sent lovely messages of support. This is a warm and friendly forum where members really care about each other. This will be a tough week but I’m sure I’ll get through it with wonderful vibes. I’m loving all the tales of positivity and success. Good luck for the pocketeers challenge. You’re in my thoughts, hugs to you all.
Xx
second post.
Thanks for support on this thread. Yes b2tf I have heard that and it’s so true! But someone has to feed the world. Nice segue to the fact that the support here helped me go to the bakery and though I was tempted to go for a pie and cream pastry – well it IS still raining and we’ve already had over 2 inches, which I can’t really bear to think about – I instead got a half strength coffee and am slowly sipping that. I may not be able to control the weather but I CAN control what I eat on a FD.๐
Day 12, FD, New Zealand. Straightforward fast day. It certainly gets easier the more you do them. Just ate 400 cal dinner. Measured my waist for first time since early October and I’ve lost 15cm! I definitely carry my extra weight in my tummy and I knew my waistbands were feeling considerably looser, but I never guessed I’d lost that much. I had been concerned when I read on NHS site that if your waist, for a woman, was above 88cm then you needed to see your GP immediately or else all manner of diseases and conditions would rain down on you. I was 99cm at the time! So, even when the scales may tip up or down a fraction, I know I’m making steady progress round the waist.
