Day 7 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
@michelinme – thanks! I found a sample of that book that I downloaded ages ago, but then never got around to reading, duh?
@at, @brightonbelle – I agree, you can’t rush a mosaic anyway. When I heard the class was 4 hours long, I thought, ‘what am I going to do for 4 hours?!’ Those 4 hours fly by, & it totally absorbs you. But not a lot gets done. @at – I also thought, ‘edible Hush Puppies?!’ 😂
@stitchincarol – um, you’re right. The extra driving & expense of a Saturday lesson puts me off anyway. So I might just bring home a smaller project to work on. There’s someone else at the class working on a snowman & I’d like to make one as a Christmas gift/decoration. I don’t think I’ll run out of ideas anytime soon though. There are about 70 houses in this village, & I think they all deserve a mosaic 😂 I can understand your inner conflict re your MIL. But your DD, unless she was particularly close to her grandmother – does she feel obliged to make such a long trip at a moment’s notice, with small children & her job to take into account? Or maybe it’s insensitive for me to even think that..?
It’s a lovely sunny day here, so I’m off to make the most of it before the wintery rain returns tomorrow.
Have a good weekend everyone 🌤🌈
Back again with a cuppa.
It is cup of tea since I am out of coffee. It is a bit hurt that I called it second best so I will try to make up to it by enjoying every sip. Tea is quite marvelous really.
Thin, good on your brother for being such a good friend. My sister fasted along with her cancer treatment when she was going through it a couple of years ago. I did do more research then and the hypothesis hasn’t been proved or even strengthened with latest research but, as you said, if the patient is strong enough it is worth a try.
Gday, I am another one who completely agrees with what you say about the big food companies investing millions into research to entice us to eat more and more ultra processed food made from cheap nutritionless ingredients. And then add in a couple of nutrients so they can put it on the packet.
Neil, I have a feeling the howling winds you mentioned had come through Melbourne on their way to you. We have had 100km winds, hail, a 25c day, an 18c night.
(Interruption, my cup of tea is very good).
Anyway I am glad you have got some gardening and cycling in.
It is frustrating that re-losing that weight is such a long difficult drawn out job. It is all to do with the stuff in the article I think.
And yes the bottom line is that if you weren’t doing all the work, your weight would still be going up. Stress eating did not seem much of a deal at all when we were younger, but it becomes more and more an issue. Hooray that you are putting in such good work with strategies etc. I hope that by the time you are my age you have got everything in place for easy maintenance.
Hi Quacka, I hope you have had a good week with fasts and gym and your busy life. All power to you.
Gday, yes, the poor weather systems are being buffeted like crazy by this global warming. I am glad your garden is happy though! I have nasturtium leaves with holes and scars from the hail but everything else looks fine and I think I might get a bumper crop of broad beans. Lots of flowers.
Okay, tea is finished (thankyou tea, you were lovely) and now I am going to get ready to go shopping (for coffee!).
Sending best wishes to everyone for fasty fasts and results on the scales.
Hello everyone,
Somehow it is Saturday again. I had a busy week with grandma duties and have just recovered enough to be able to write… I hope. My concentration might be off!
Thin, I was able to take the time to watch DD’s wonderful modern equivalent of the slideshow. How gorgeous. What sights she has seen. I love the delight on her face (presuming I picked her rightly).
Neil, I also managed to read that very interesting article. A good follow on from my Dr Chris writing about UPF. I was able to read the parts about all the things happening in our brains that led him to label it a brain disease. Very good.
I do know I just have to be kind to myself about the way my brain is messaging, or not messaging, in regard to food. It got stuffed up along the way and hasn’t been able to right itself.
Just going to get a cuppa and reply some more.
Evening!
Very warm here today! Poor Xena, we were out later than normal & she was too hot to run about much even in the woods…she made up for it when hubby took her to the park, her friend Max was there so she ran loads with him, hubby had to stop her in the end, she’d have kept going!
Did lots of digging in the garden, have bought manure for the veg beds, too hot for it really. Dropped son’s washing off to him, he was yawning, he’d been out for 4 hours on a shout in the middle of the night!
Have a good weekend everyone!
USA. Day 6. FD
Another busy FD. Being busy helps me stay on track. I didn’t see a pocket list, so I will start one.
Pocket List Day 6
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Day 6 – UK – TDEE
Weight this morning 63.4kg……a loss of 1kg as a reward for a very controlled week…..now to make sure that the weekend does not undo that promising start……
Boy was it hot dog walking on the coast with DD this morning, we had to cut the late morning ones a bit short….just too hot for the 🐕 although they enjoyed a cooling swim in the sea
Really enjoyed the iced coffee mid morning…..just what was needed then we had a 😋 light pub lunch sitting outside in the shade at the end before I headed back home….late afternoon now and it’s still very hot……
Planning on a salad for tea, small portion for me to keep me within my TDEE
Another hot, sunny day to look forward to tomorrow so will definitely be out for a good hike early morning before it gets too hot
We have a Spanish seafood feast planned for our evening meal tomorrow and we have friends, another couple, joining us…….@michelinme in view of your comment, I thought I would share what we are having… …Starting with various tapas – Gazpacho – Hake croquetas with allioli – Grilled Octopus, creamy paprika mash, pimentón, jamón & pine nut picada – Main of Prawn canelones served with a salad of Little Gem lettuce, capers, lemon dressing – Dessert is a Tarta de Santiago with orange cream – I hasten to add that all for me will be small servings but I will definitely be aiming for OMAD to limit the damage 🤣 and for those keen cooks amongst us the recipes are from José Pizarro who is a Spanish chef, widely credited with popularising Spanish cuisine in the UK in the late 1990s…..he has various restaurants in London, worth checking his style of cooking on line if you like Spanish cooking
Sunday will definitely need to at least a CD if not a FD800 🤣 to make up that feast!!!!
@funshipfreddie – no rush with the mosaic – half the fun is in the making so enjoy the process as someone else said
@stitchincarol – I had to google “hush puppies” they are a make of shoes here in the UK 🤣
I’m off to investigate the fridge to see what will go into that healthy salad – will need to add extra protein and some carbs of sort to OH’s portion….
Day 6 Wales 🏴 NFD
@stitchincarol daily fluctuations in weight can be so disappointing, take heart in that it happens to us all and often there is no justice in what the scales say.
@funshipfreddie the people who viewed yesterday definitely like the house, it was their second time viewing us, but they seem undecided about the area, they are also looking at properties in other parts of the UK.
@merryapple we moved to Wales when I retired almost 9 years ago. In recent years I have become homesick for the people and countryside we left behind in central England and DH is happy to move back especially since he has recently experienced the poorly resourced local health service resulting in 3 hour road trips for scans and treatment, so if/when we sell we are homeward bound 🙂
My clothes are feeling less snug today so I’m encouraged to maintain some degree of discipline over the weekend 😉 🍷
Day 6 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
You know, last Saturday, my weight was 160.4 and on Friday morning–following a WF, remember–the scale read 158.8. I was sure that low Friday weight (that startled me!) would make accomplishing my one pound loss for this week that much easier, and was thrilled at what I took to be surety of this week’s one pound loss. Well. This morning, I’ve only pulled off 159.6 rather than last week’s 158.8. I will almost certainly be up at least a pound tomorrow after eating at all normally today. So, I’m making plans for how minimally I’ll eat today, but am quite disappointed my pound-a-week loss has been derailed this week. A good reminder that loss is not linear, and regardless of what the scale says, I feel much better for the month of focused eating, and my belly is slowly shrinking, so I’ll still manage to continue on.
I’m struggling to be at peace while we wait for my MIL to pass. She’s never liked me (my FIL liked me even less…I never really understood why, but perhaps I’m not quiet and restrained enough??) so there’s no closeness to make it hard, but there’s still plenty of sorrow and no compensating joy at the lovely memories–you know? And then not to know when my DD should pack up her girls and write her substitute teacher lesson plans and drive the 10 hours… Okay, end of rant; I’ll work at regaining peace and patience.
@michelinme Nice 2lb start to your new journey! I’m glad you had such a lovely visit with your DD and then with your friend. What about work? Are you on vacation right now? Ahh, just read today’s post and you mentioned some work stuff. I’m taking that to mean work isn’t as stressful right now as it sometimes has been in the past, a very good thing!
@at Well done on your unexpected FD600 and long, long walk! Have fun today on the beach with your DD!
@merryapple Hugs to you as you are particularly aware today/yesterday of Billy’s passing.
@funshipfreddie It’s fun to see you becoming firmly addicted to mosaic work. Beware of going on Sturdays as well, and also bringing it home, because then the need to decide what’s next will arrive that much sooner… 😂
@northgeorgia I’m glad it all went well last night–that was never in doubt, right??? 🥰 And well done on eating minimally enough that you’re down this morning!
DH has left to go spend an hour or two at his mom’s bedside. I decided not to go this time so I could work on tax bookkeeping, and feel like I’m in control of something, even if it’s not something that’s at all joyful, LOL!
So, I’m off to immerse myself in paperwork. Have a grand one, everyone, and remember:
You are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way.
I’m holding this close to me today, and plan to make the day OMAD, and then enjoy a dozen oysters on the half shell and a few hush puppies and a cold glass of crisp white wine tonight. No veggies in that plan, sadly, but low calories at least. Perhaps I’ll add in a tossed salad?
Day 6 UK CD
Out for a few drinks this evening, but I’m watching carefully I don’t want to undo all my hard work this week
Don’t be in a rush to finish your mosaic @funshipfreddie , just enjoy the process
Oooh a media star in our gang @merry🍎 Hope your anniversary day went well 🌈
I saw your post before I’d caught up on the news @northgeorgia – how terrrible
Excellent start @michelinme Well done , but please do take care of yourself 💕 Youre right it is quiet , everyone has such busy lives , may see a few over the weekend ?
Day 6 UK CD
A sense of achievement today as I measure the effect of 4 days back on the waggon…. I’m down just over 2lbs to 193lb and have lost 0.5″ from my bust, BMI is down by 0.3. After a week that started by going up that feels like good gentle moves in the right direction 🙂
I know from previous rodeos that losing 5-6lb/month is pretty straightforward at the beginning when there’s plenty to go – I went from 178lb to 147lb in 7 months when I first started here. A longer journey this time but I’ll get there, a day at a time.
Today is another transition day – picking up some project work emails and practical actions that are needed for the next week. It’s a very grey and gloomy day here and all very depressing; realising that I am fairly low and need to lighten the load and look for support. Meanwhile the challenge is not to think about food as a compensation, reward or medicine – my brain is very good at leading me astray!
I’ve extended yesterday’s fast to now, breaking with scrambled eggs and salad. Planning cauliflower cheese with mushrooms, spinach, broccoli and courgettes for supper, berries & vegan yogurt with cacao and dates for pudding. I bought 3 pots of yogurt to make 3 loaves of bread for two events this weekend and now only need to make one loaf so plenty to use up!
@at it sounds as tho you are right back in the rhythm. I love hearing stories of your activities, exercise and baking
@merryapple thank you – I’m beginning to do that. Today worked out I need to step down as a charity trustee from one organisation which is facing a year or so of upheaval and I just don’t have the capacity to help them through this stage. Now looking for other things I can let go… When you start to rebalance in one area of your life the rest becomes a bit clearer – i hope!
@funshipfreddie I’ve got the FD800 keto book which does similar things with LOTS of recipes
@northgeorgia that sounds great – well done! Amazing how weight loss lands – and doesn’t
It seems quiet here today; I hope everyone is well
Day 6 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 231 lbs. The ceremony went well last night. I’m off in about 15 minutes to do a presentation at a local school, then comping my time from yesterday to come back home 🙂
Yesterday was OMAD, from what I could remember, and I’m down more after that NFD than any of my FDs this week. I have some more “interruptions” this month, but not until after mid-September, so this should give me time to start bumping into the 220s again.
A beautiful sunny day today, perfect for bowling, one game left on Mondays, three on Thursdays and four on Fridays.Unless we progress in the cup.I think Chloe could set the record for the slowest greyhound on earth, she walks that slow I’m dragging her round halfthe time.If I let her off the lead she still walksby my side as if she’s still on it. Never seen her run apart from her race on YouTube in Ireland which sheet she won by a mile. She was like a rocket that day. Her grandad won the British greyhound derby 2 years running so she must have been expensive when she was a puppy. On Facebook theteate a group who trace greyhound results and they said Chloe was almost always in the first three and won a lot of her races. She won her very last race then was retired.
Day 6 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.2 kg
I had a good FD & clocked up + 9000 steps, despite the cold, cloudy & windy day. It doesn’t feel like spring yet.
I’m reading Gary Taubes’ book – The Case for Keto. It’s interesting, but he really waffles on. Why get a point across in one chapter when you can fill four? I’ve got no intention of adopting a keto diet, but I’m working on reducing how many carbs I consume to reduce hunger & to be generally healthier. I think I could manage around 100 g per day, which is still considered low-carb. The average person has about 250 – 300 g per day. Counting carbs is easier than counting calories too. If you aim to eat low-carb, it seems like you automatically eat less, reduce cravings & so consume less calories. And combining low-carb with intermittent fasting is a thing. LCIF – a new acronym is born! https://betterme.world/articles/low-carb-intermittent-fasting/
@missybear – I hope the viewing was a success? 🤞🤞
@at – thank you! It’s going to take weeks to finish that pot. Once a week isn’t enough. It’s addictive. Maybe I should go to the Saturday morning class too. Or I guess I could bring it home & work on it here.
@merryapple – a radio interview?! Were you nervous? I’m sure I would’ve been. I hope it went well.
Happy Fri-yay! 🍹
Day 6 NZ NFD 70.6kg
I had a big breakfast of muesli and sourdough with m’mlade and tea to start the day.
I have a radio interview about the exhibition coming up at 10am for the Auckland University radio arts programme later in the day. I’ve just seen a rainbow 🌈 in the sky so I know my boys are lurking… Today is the 3rd anniversary of Billy’s death. I’m so glad he died in Spring because somehow it seems more positive and forward looking.
@stitchincarol I was going to go back and read your posts because I hadn’t clocked the passing of your MIL but you’re in preparatory mode…!
I’d love a carrot cake recipe. I usually make the Silver Palate carrot cake which is huge!!
@at the Italian apple cake sounds lovely too. I’m not very familiar with Italian baking recipes.
That was a great walk you did. Feeling fit and strong is a great feeling of self containment, I think.
@michelinme Good on you making such healthy food choices.
I hope your DD recovers well from her surgery before the onset of chemo. The support team – you – need to take extra care of yourself too😊
@brightonbelle At least we don’t have hard water… I clean the soap off with elbow grease combined with the natural orange based De-Solv-it , made in Australia. My backsplash in the kitchen is also charcoal slate. It is fantastic – easy to wipe down and doesn’t reflect light so you can’t see sticky marks!!
@funshipfreddie Probably the photo!! You’ll be teaching mosaics soon😄
The royal kids have Māori titles not English… I know the younger son is a tattoo artist now The elder used to accompany his father on official trips but had a troubled past and married a wife no one approved of and is stripped of his title.
There was only one real choice – their sister, or someone from another tribe.
@northgeorgia Well done!
I was saddened by the news of another school shooting… I did listen intently to the accents of the people interviewed and thought you must have the same accent!!😃
@missybear Your house and location sound lovely. Are you going to stay in the area?
Time to get rolling!!
Steely RESOLVE one and all!
Fasting put my IC in remission.
2nd Post
Today turned into a FD600 and included an 8mile/13km hike 😇
Out early tomorrow to help DD with her dog walking business so will post a bit later in the day
I’m just back from book club and in need of some 😴
Peppermint and water mixed then sprayed around the windows and doors is supposed to warn of spiders.I don’t mind spiders and mice don’t scare me.But I don’t like them.I feel very cold tonight roll on getting to Spain and some sun
Interesting read Neil thanks for posting. I can’t read the entire article as it won’t fully load and keeps reloading to different parts of the article but I definitely don’t agree with the part about it being a brain disease. I don’t believe some people are obese and some are not because of something they may have or not have in their brain.
Definitely agree with Dr Ludwigs comments, I have his books and read a lot of his studies and in my opinion he’s spot on when it comes to obesity and it’s causes.
As the article says obesity has skyrocketed in the last 50 plus years, the exact same time as the sales of UPF skyrocketed, genetically modified foods were introduced and herbicide use became widespread across all food sources.
Yes, there are some medical reasons causing obesity but essentially it comes down to lifestyle choices and the impact those choices have on the brain and body systems.
Day 4 UK CD 1100
Day 5 FD800
I didn’t post yesterday as SUCH a long day, but very glad to spend day with DD. Thanks @stitchincarol She’s recovering from surgery with chemo starting in a couple of weeks so life is full of health phone calls/appts and planning/prep. But we had a good day of relaxed chat over coffee, slow walk/push into town for lunch, and a couple of hours cleaning the kitchen!
Proud of myself for a series of good choices despite stress and weariness. I resisted – pastries with morning coffee – in favour of an apple, all snacks on the train, pastries/puddings/sandwiches at lunchtime – in favour of pumpkin soup, and chocolate/crisps etc on delayed train home – I chose tiny bag of nuts and a slice of light fruit cake. It made me realise how easy it is to eat a mountain of calories! But also how simple it is to change my mindset and make intentional choices to serve future goals.
Today I peeled my exhausted self out of bed to visit friend who has been largely housebound for several years. It’s been hard to find a clear day when we are both well and I have access to a car but we finally did it! I turned down proper lunch as fasting but we ate light salad of carrot/cucumber/tomatoes and some berries. I was going to visit another friend on the way home but the heavens opened with torrential rain so we came straight back. Early supper was sweet potato/spinach and pea dahl, quorn ‘chicken’ and cauliflower with nutritional yeast, followed by an apple and dried mango. 792 calories and the kitchen is closed.
I unpacked my box of fruit and veg this afternoon, my first oddbox since before my mum died. The fruit and veg is all ‘odd’ and surplus, so lots of tiny apples and pears, very large courgettes etc. It feels good to have a heap of colourful fruit and veg to encourage healthy eating over the next week.
I’m feeling a little less puffy than I was on Monday morning but not expecting to see much in the way of results on my Friday weekly weighday. Early days, baby steps, but heading in the right direction.
@jaifaim @funshipfreddie thank you – it’s good to be here
@bert1802 welcome back! I landed on Monday after a year away, 18lbs heavier but determined to make progress 🙂 I’m glad to be travelling with you again.
@northgeorgia what a tragedy for the community. Best of luck with your event – you’ve got this!
I’ve caught up with 2 days’ posts – goodness what a lot is happening – now heading to bed. Go well fellow fasters
Evening!
I’m not sure why my legs are stiff & painful, I keep putting off going to the GP, I don’t rate ours much…I’m thinking maybe thyroid 😕 Keto helps often with joint pain etc because of cutting out sugar, it can be quite inflammatory…
Made a banana & chocolate chip cake for hubby today, I can resist the cooked cake quite easily but not licking out the bowl was hard 😂 Mum popped in for a cuppa (& cake!)
I don’t like spiders when they run, I’m okay catching them in a duster or under a glass & letting them go outside if I can…when we had our caravan the really big ones would come in & wasn’t too keen on them!
Good afternoon everyone. Xxxx
A windy damp day here today… Luckily we managed a dry walk.
Shopped at Tesco .. very quiet today the weather keeping people in.
No cooking today roast beef slices in a crusty roll.. fruit.
Dave …well done losing the 6 lbs last month.
H H …Why does the Keto help with the stiff legs. I suffer from them too at times.
Sym … I don’t mind spiders its the thought of mice that terrifies me lol
Enjoy your day and create your own happiness. Xxxx
Yes Denise does all three packing, she says I would just throw it all in if I did it 😁 your salad sounds 🤮🤮🤮 HH. Will have to do some fasting when I get back from Benidorm.Anything under a stone gain and I will be happy. Chicken stir fry for tea, Denise is doing it now.
Day 5 UK f800
Horrid grey winter weather today ☔️ Hope it’s temporary was looking forward to a lovely September 🌈
Ha ha sounds very similar @merry🍎I loved the black slate tiles when I chose them but hard water takes it till , next time I’ll be going for something easier to clean
Good that you can stay away from the scales @bert1802 I might try to limit my weighing , it is just one measure 🤔
NDS ? that’s a new one for me @penz – intentional or a typo ?
Do hope the move went well @flourbaby Looking forward to the update
Thank goodness you posted @stotchincarol I was at a loss with the pocket list

Afternoon All…
A good walk then I have cleaned well upstairs, spraying all my bug stuff about for the September spiders.. I am terrified of them.
A lot more packing done…checked all my hand luggage documents.. money etc..still more to do..
Hedgehog…
Why have you got the pain in your legs? Jacqui is very bad she has pain all over, her legs looked bad as she got out of the car the other day. Is it an age thing? Hope it soon improves for you.

Day 5 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD
Yesterday morning’s deep motivation had waned a bit by evening, and I was tired from my busy day and overwhelmed by everything still on my list, so I ate more than I’d intended. And then, contrary to what *ALWAYS* happens, I lost a whopping 2 ounces overnight, rather than my typical 2 pounds. Weird, weird, weird. But life goes on, and today’s WF should dispatch much of what I found ugly on the scale this morning. 😂
I went down to the (finished) basement and did an hour of tidying yesterday. There’s still plenty I could do, but the evidence of my efforts is clear, so that’s encouraging. Our family plan is to have the funeral on Monday or Tuesday, which means I need to have the basement ready for DD and her family by Saturday evening. The only problem, of course, is that my MIL hasn’t yet passed. This need to plan is getting tangled up with an inability to control the details, LOL!
@michelinme I meant to wish you a good trip to see your DD and somehow only got your name down yesterday!
@bert1802 Welcome back! 😉
@penz Ahh, now your description is sounding exactly like my experience. I did another hour this morning; my checklist is about half ticked and most of what’s remaining is the simpler tasks, so it’s happening. The problem, of course, is that visits to MIL take away many hours, and tidying and cleaning and preparing the house for the kids to be here for the funeral is also claiming a big share of time, so the bookkeeping is only happening slowly. I’d love to at least have the paperwork done before DD and her gang get here, but who knows. Thankfully, the extension I filed last April is good until October 15, so there’s no actual pressure…yet. 😂🤣😂
@merryapple Did I say apple? It’s carrot cake… But I’ve a lovely apple recipe–no, two!–that my mom made and I adore and I’ll post them eventually. Want the carrot cake recipe (the one with olive oil) also? Fascinating details on the funeral and selection of the princess!
@missybear Oh! Good luck with the people viewing your house!
@at Silecroft Beach looks very similar to “South Beach” in Crescent City. There’s also “Pebble Beach” (very aptly named as it’s all pebbles mixed into the sand) and the beach I linked, which is surrounding the dredged-out harbor. That’s a detail I really miss of living on the coast, so lucky you that a beach AND your DD are a mere 45 minutes away!
@funshipfreddie LOL! The rattle was actually the belt on the water pump…
@northgeorgia I immediately thought of you when I heard of the shooting, and wondered if you perhaps knew anyone in that town/at that school. So very sad.
Okay, time to get dressed and head out the door.
Have a grand one, everyone!
You are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way.
Pocket List – Day 5 🥝

Day 5 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 233 lbs. At least a couple of pounds off. Too bad; I was hoping for a nicer fit this year at graduation but there’s next year to look forward to. The school shooting happened just 15 miles away from here, so we will go into the ceremony with heavy hearts tonight.
Day 5 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD
@penz – congrats on the successful FD! Yes, snacking is such a bad habit. I was annoyed with myself after having salted peanuts after dinner last night, when I wasn’t even hungry. A tiny 50 g packet, but that’s 300 cals! I think I was contemplating today’s FD, so I decided I needed a reward in advance 🙄
@merryapple – not sure what you mean re the stalk? I have used light & dark green. Maybe it’s the light/picture? Although, it’s not meant to be a stalk, just grass, foliage in general. I’m winging it 😅 Oh, & @stitchincarol – the blue & white squares are actually purple & lilac. So maybe it’s just my crappy phone camera. I’m VERY proud of those diagonal cuts 😃 But it’s just a little device you use like a pair of pliers, with little sharp-edged wheels.
@merryapple – I heard the two princes both have criminal records, which is one reason the daughter was chosen to succeed the king? There was a huge court battle after the Zulu king died here 3 years ago. The process of choosing a successor is very complicated, especially considering they have several wives & God knows how many children. Apparently we have several ‘royal’ families in South Africa; 10 kings and a queen! No doubt all funded by tax payers 😒
@stitchincarol – $1400 to fix a rattle?! That would be a nice deposit on a new car here!
@bert1802 – welcome back & well done! That’s a good FD & a OMAD all-in-one 🥇
Pocket List – Day 5 🥝

@funshipfreddie
Day 5 – UK – TDEE
Ended up yesterday just under my TDEE so feeling in control
No plans for today apart from Book Club this evening – weather looking good so have just decided to put on my walking shoes and get out for walk……
@missybear – I agree that a “walk does does us good, calms the mind and makes you feel more like you again” I think it may have something to do with the release of endorphins and nature’s healing powers
@northgeorgia – stay positive and try to stick to what worked for you before
@funshipfreddie. – I meant to say I’m loving your mosaic project – can’t wait to see the end product!
@missybear @stitchincarol – I often meet with my DD to help with her dog walking business and we often go to Silecroft Beach (Cumbria) when the tide is out – Deserted and very clean beach, shingle at top then vast expanse of sand when low tide. (google it!) such a different space from the inland mountain area where I live and just a 45min drive away
@bert1802 – lovely to see you back – I too have just returned properly this month after lurking in the background for months and just hanging on the wagon by my fingernails – definitely time to RESET
@merryapple – I often bake cakes using olive oil instead of butter and you can’t tell I promise…..I use a Mild and Light version for baking……so using it in scones and flapjack was just another step……and olive oil is much healthier for you. I have a great recipe for an Italian apple cake make with olive oil if you want to give it a try??/
Right I’m off to get organised and then will be outdoors for that walk……solo one today as I could not convince anyone else to join…….the meditative act of walking, surrounded by nature’s beauty, allows my mind to unwind, reducing stress and anxiety.
Day 5 Wales 🏴 FD
Enjoyed walking on the beach yesterday and yes @stitchincarol, Crescent beach does look very like beautiful rugged Amroth beach. Whilst walking I considered the possibility of taking our property off the market until Spring and started to think that was a good plan only to get home to a message from the estate agent, some people want to view our house today. So I will be busy with a grocery delivery and house cleaning this morning and people viewing the property this afternoon……no time to eat, should guarantee a good FD.
Strength to my fellow Thursday fasters 🥗
Day 5 NZ FD 🏃🏼♀️71.1kg
I’m slightly surprised my weight is static. Maybe it’s not EOEO after all🫤Time to focus on good habits rather than looking at the scales…
Today has been a momentous day here with the Tangi (funeral) of Kīngi Tu Heitia , the Māori King. He was carried down the huge Waikato River in Waka (Māori canoe-like boats)to his Maunga, Taupiri where he was buried at the top. His daughter, Nga Wai Hono i te Po, 27 was named his successor despite having two brothers. Succession is passed to the best person not next in line.
@penz I haven’t been to the Melbourne Gallery yet but I know the director Jack. He’s delightful and smart.
1301SW, Melbourne and Starkwhite, Auckland and The Mayor Gallery, London are on Instagram
@funshipfreddie The pot is looking great! One comment if I may – think tone (light to dark) as well as colour. Light green next to the dark green stalk would make it stand out.
@at wow! Olive oil in baking. Most recipes use a less tasty oil so your DH must be committed to the cause!!
I love your quote from the Dalai Lama. Perfect for me today, thank you!!
@missybear Your walk sounds so refreshing and not in the least hippiest!!
@ccco Well done you!!
@brightonbelle I cleaned the bathroom as well😇 The floor is a dark charcoal slate. I have to clean the coating of white soap residue off the walk in shower…
@stitchincarol Fabulous you’re getting results!!
Could you possibly post the apple cake recipe please. I collect Apple recipes!!
The exhibition is on for 6 weeks and is going to one possibly two institutions with some other work added to it.
I have at last got going on my nephew’s jersey. It’s Gotland homespun (by me) and I couldn’t work out a cable pattern that suited… Then I found this how to make cables stand out. Perfect!! And off I go!!

@bert1802 Great you’re back with us! I love reading your posts!! If it helps 1 dress size = 5kg / 11lb
@jaifaim I’m a little wary of “letting loose on holiday”. I’ll be in 5:2 mode hoping not too many temptations come my way except at dinner time… Given we’re traveling the Pinot Noir district things are not looking too good for 5:2, but loads of FUN😁 We’re going to Lake Tekapo which has world heritage status for the night sky and the zillions of stars you can see.
@northgeorgia Best of British for your leadership role. I hope there’s not too much cortisol floating around, rather it’s the residue of the big birthday week!!!
@lilymartin How are you?
My FD is over but all the best for you Thursday fasters
Day 5, NDS, Aus
Nothing like PFDS! I got through yesterday – it got easier as the day went on and when OH made a delicious smelling pasta dish I wasn’t even tempted! I think my challenge is the habit of eating, even when I’m not really hungry. I also need to keep myself busy. If I’m sedentary on the couch I feel bored and want to eat just to pass the time. Recognising this is part of the strategy to do a successful FD. Stay busy, and realise I’m not actually hungry.
I’m very impressed with your mosaic work, @funshipfreddie.
Oh no, don’t give me credit for doing my tax return fast @stichincarol. It takes me weeks to get all my info together, then I go to a tax agent who makes sure all the right figures go in the right boxes and she gets it done in about an hour. If it were solely up to me it would take months and then I would live in fear that the Aus Tax Office would be after me for getting it all wrong!
@bert1802 – my old Florida buddy!!! So nice to see you back on the forum. Every time I clean my kitchen sink I think of you!
Interesting read if you’ve got 15 minutes or so
Day 4…..Florida……OMD
Hi everyone….. my apologies for disappearing for a moment…. Some where between my last post and today, I lost August! Went to sleep one night and woke up to it being September. Not sure, what happened but the wagon I went off the rails.
I’m back and committed!
Today, I ended up only eating one meal with my calories coming in at 536 for the day.
I went into the day not sure what I was going to do but it was something. By the time I really thought about it; it was almost one o’clock, my work phone was ringing off the hook and stopping to get fast food was not anything I wanted to do. So, I just kept on moving. I figured I end the day early have a small something when I got home. Well, an hour trip home took almost three hours. So, by the time I made home the dinner hour was here and thus an OMD was born.
After dinner, I just closed the kitchen and was done with it. I finished out my eating at 5:30 today.
I thought about this all day and well I’m thinking I’m just going to take it one day at a time and see where I ended up. I haven’t gotten on the scale in a month, so no idea where I am on the weight thing and I’m not gonna get on for a while. I’ve also decided to use some of my cloths in my closet to monitor my progress.
Fair plan, I think with no pressure.
Well I’m off!
I’ll catch up more tomorrow
Anyone else having weird weather fluctuations? The last few nights and mornings I’ve been rugged up like an Eskimo as it’s been so cold and last night back to sleeping in summer pjs, no covers and the ceiling fan on all night. This morning walking around in shorts and singlet.
On a positive note the spots of warm/hot weather (temps have been up to 35degs some days) is doing wonders for the garden, its looking spectacular. All the natives are out in flower and my 5 wisteria vines on the front verandah arbour have the biggest blossoms I’ve ever seen – the smell is whofting through the house – it’s just divine.
Evening!
Dave- well done losing a pound! Does Denise pack all your clothes for you then? I do get stuff out for hubby but more to remind him…
Jean- very nice, sparkly nails! You & Hemmy are doing well with your walking, I have slowed down, my legs are stiff & painful, hoping that the keto will help with that, they’re definitely better than they were…
Hemmy- your friend sounds very talented indeed, I can draw copying stuff but not otherwise! (So no talent here!)
Had an early walk with my friend & her dog this morning, it was lovely & warm. We went & picked up a big sack of manure later for my veg beds, had my hair coloured & cut, then did our weekly shop. Just an easy dinner tonight, my kale salad & cheese. Bet Dave would love it 😂 Not doing any fasting yet but having 2 meals most days.
With a low-calorie intake like 800 calories a day, your body might be holding onto water or even slowing down its metabolism as a protective measure. I’ve found that mixing things up with https://fitnflexed.com can really help kickstart things again. Basically, strength training helps preserve muscle mass, which is crucial when you’re on a low-calorie diet, and cardio can help burn extra calories and boost your metabolism.
Hemmy..
I do think the walking keeps us fit. I am not too bad for my age really..🤞🏻
My toe nails are like a denim blue with all sparkles on, look good in the sun…
I just saw your quote.. that’s definitely me 😂🤣
Dave..
Well done on loosing 6 lbs it moves it a lot.
We will both be fighting the weight when back 😂🤣it will be worth it..
Jean x
L
I had scrambled eggs, bacon and beans for tea😋😋😋. Ginger a bit over because I had toast but should still be ok. I’ve lost 6lbs going of their records in the last month, do can’t complain.I told them I’ll be heavier next time because of Benidorm 😁
Good afternoon everyone. xxxx
Its a dry day dull with splashes of sunshine et times..
A lovely walk.. then coffee with my friend. she is so very talented she can draw a brilliant picture from any few squiggles I make for her to work on. A true artist. I am back on watering duty from Fri for 10 days. Lots of things over now though and I am not expecting a heat wave now.
Not sure on what to have for dinner nothing much I am fancying.at the moment.
Dave.. well done on your pound loss.
H H … I think that is it .. when not catering for other peeps you do simple meals.
I am really going try an d cook a small roast this weekend I do miss them on a Sunday .
Sym… I think as time goes by we do get quicker with our regular walks… these walks keep us fit too.
What colour are your nails.
Enjoy your day … Dont ever lose your sparkle. Xxxx
Day 4 – Rural Nebraska, USA – CD
After yesterday’s successful WF, I’m the same weight again as last Saturday morning, so I’m deeply motivated to eat very minimally today. Plus, there’s no supper for two possible on Wednesdays as DH teaches classees from 3:45 to 8. Ugh. So I’ll be on my own for supper and WILL find a way to make it very few calories. When I waver, I’ll remember how lovely the scale was this morning, and how much lovelier I’d like it to be on Saturday, LOL!
@missybear Like @penz, I too was struck by your sentence: “When I get stressed I forget the long term health benefits of self control and opt for the short term comfort of food and drink without moderation 😳” Well said. It’s a very hard practice to break, even when you really, really, really know it not to be true…
@jaifaim You said an interesting thing: “Hoping to lose a little before I let loose on holidays…😉 ah no I won’t… I’ll be good 😇” It’s inevitable that we eat a bit more on vacations simply because sensible food (heavy on the veggies) is hard to find when eating out all the time. But I still haven’t persuaded myself I eat this way (the way I’m eating in order to lose weight) because I CHOOSE to rather than because that’s what I’m forced to do to achieve my weight loss goals. In the back of my mind, once I reach maintenance, I’ll be going back to eating the way I have been. Which, of course, will mean I will not stay in maintenance. What has made us a globe full of gluttons????? LOL, sorry for the insult. But, really, when I look around at what people eat, it’s quite shocking…so why do we do this to ourselves??? SOMEDAY I’m going to equate “I’ll be good” with “I’ll be myself” and THAT will mean “I’ll eat what I want and what I want is minimal and healthy foods only.” Does this whole rant make sense? It’s the attitude I’ve been fighting to finally start the weight loss process…
@merryapple Thanks for sharing the link; it all looks great! How long will it be up? How often will you be there? I’ll bet you love to be in the space. And have fun on your holiday!
@penz I absolutely do not blame you for wanting to give up your non-working status. Time will tell what you choose, huh? The L.O.N.G. wait at the dealership got very boring, and they finally had to give me a loaner because the repair work was not yet complete when I HAD to go, but I also got something like 15 rows knit on the sleeve, so that soothed my frustraion and boredom even as I got sick to death of knitting. 🤷🏻♀️ And THEN the bill was $1400. UGH. LOL, so not a thrilling day! But the rattle was repaired, so that was nice.
@funshipfreddie Your mosaic pot is coming along BEAUTIFULLY! I wondered how you were going to continue the blue/white squares around the flowers, and the diagonal cuts are perfect, and the green fill-in at the bottom is excellent. Leprechauns and rainbows, eh? I look forward to seeing that! 😉 And, yeah, tax returns are never a confident thing for me (and I’m still just finishing up the year’s bookkeeping and haven’t even started the return!!!!). Did you notice @penz also did her tax return fast and easily as if it were no big deal??? 🤣😂🤣⭐⭐⭐
@at I’ve also marveled at how much your husband eats…😂 Mine never has eaten all that much, and neither did my kids, so if I wanted to cook for big eaters we had to invite over other teenage boys, LOL. BTW, my favorite carrot cake recipe calls for olive oil and apple sauce instead of eggs. The first time I made it I had serious doubts, but now I know it’ll be wonderful–not “fine” but WONDERFUL. 🤷🏻♀️ Well done on an unexptected FD800! Wow. When you bake you lose your appetite? You lucky duck. Not me. And great quote.
@missybear Loved your description of the beach where you will walk. Puts me in mind of the beaches around Crescent City, California, where I grew up. Enjoy your walk for me as well, will you? 🥰 Here, one of the beaches I used to walk on, just five blocks from my home: https://i0.wp.com/jetsettingfools.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Beach-Front-Crescent-City-California.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&is-pending-load=1#038;ssl=1
@northgeorgia So after the graduation speech, your weight will plummet a bit, I’ll bet–yes? 🤞
@brightonbelle You made me laugh–cleaning the bathroom, eh? 😉
DH and I are off to see his mom this morning since we both have to be home by three o’clock or so. Have a grand one, everyone!
Day 4 UK f800
Wow there’s a lot going on today spinning , mosaic making and beach walking all sound fabulous, I’ll be cleaning the bathroom ☹️
Managing to stick to the 800cals but think I’m still having too many carbs and not enough protein for it to work properly so trying to plan a bit better
Happy 🐫 day all
Pocket List day 4🧶
USA. Day 4. WFD
Out to get my car tuned up!
Pocket Lis Day 4
@ccco WFD
Hope you are having a great day!
Day 4 – USA/GA – FD
Weigh-in: 235 lbs. Figured it out. Cortisol. I am stressed out because I’ll have to speak and lead a graduation ceremony tomorrow in front of nearly 1,000 people including local and state dignitaries. Not nervous — I’ve done it several times before, but the stress is still there. When my blood pressure read a little high this morning for the first time in a long while, it occurred to me why the weight is just hovering and hanging on at a high level this week, regardless of what I do.
Still, a FD will do me good going into tomorrow.
Day 4 Wales 🏴 NFD
Yesterday’s beach walk did me good, calmed my mind and made me feel more like me again if that doesn’t sound too hippy dippy. So I am going to do different walks every day, time and weather permitting. The abortive house sale stress and worries about the declining health of my 87yo dad have been stressing me lately. I need to get a better perspective on life……so I really appreciated your quote today @at.
Lean protein and lots of veggies on the menu today. I’m not calorie counting just eating healthy food, no processed carbs. Only calorie counting will be on FDs.
@funshipfreddie property typically takes longer to sell in this part of the world. Our house had been on the market for 4 years before we bought it. Pembrokeshire is gorgeous but a place people visit for holidays rather than to live because of the lack of career opportunities outside of the hospitality industry……and not many local people could afford our house because the service sector doesn’t pay well. Love your bee plant pot!
Time to go for that walk. Heading for Amroth where at low tide the beach is long and atmospheric and you can see the tree stump remains of ancient woodland sticking up in the beach at the water’s edge.
Have a great day everyone 🤗
I lost a pound so very happy with that.
I leave the packing to Denise she won’t let me near it. Never been on a jet2 plane hope they’re is enough room for my legs. The first time I flew think it was with Thomas Cook there was no room at all I stood up for most of the flight. The last few times we’ve gone with TUI the plane as been late every time.A dull day today, think I’ve put on some weight this week but will have lost over the month hopefully. I’ll get on the scales when I’m dry after my shower.
Morning All..
Dry and dreary here.. I am sure I am walking faster my routes are not taking my usual time!!!
Going for a pedi and nails ready for hols.
Hedgehog..
I do like it but my Irish man puts me to sleep then bells wake me up 😂🤣, in 30 mins I usually go off about three times. I don’t do it every day.
Hope you sleep better last night..
Dave..
Your plane 25 mins late this morning…..how’s your packing going….
If you go on line and just put your flight number in.. it tells you, time, gate number…
Jean x
Day 4 – UK – TDEE
Good morning – yesterday ended up as a FD800 instead of the TDEE one I had planned, making it a B2B FDs – 500 and 800 😇
Our morning hike was in beautiful sunshine with good company as usual and was around 4 miles with some steep uphill bits and lovely views – just had a cold drink of lime and soda at the end.
Busy afternoon of cooking – double batch of mushroom lasagne…..OH enjoyed a large serving for his dinner – we have some left over for today’s evening meal which will be served with a large mixed salad, I froze a second lasagna for us to have in the next couple of weeks.
I also made an apple cake for the resumption of the club I volunteer at on Wednesday afternoons (back after a long summer break)
I made a blackberry flapjack using olive oil instead of butter at OH’s request (he’s trying to cut back on butter, so I also make his scones with olive oil instead of butter now)- he reckons you can’t taste the olive oil in the scones so it will be interesting to see what he says about the taste of the flapjacks when he samples post his daily 10 mile run later today – post run he always has 2 fruit scones and a serve of flapjack with high protein, low fat yogurt…..boy that man can eat…….
As is the norm for me – if I do a lot of cooking, I lose my appetite and this is how I ended up with a FD800
I also went to see my physio about a shoulder issue I have been struggling with for a while, I think whilst the sciatica was hurting so much I forgot about the shoulder issue – she confirms what I had thought i.e. I have a rotator cuff injury, most likely tendonitis as opposed to a tear – she did some deep tissue massage and some ultrasound treatment – gave me advice of what movements to avoid in my yoga and pilates classes and some exercises to strengthen the shoulder muscles.
Yoga class again this morning followed by coffee with the 🧘♀️ gang then an afternoon of volunteering (nice to get back to regular routine this week) – We are putting on an afternoon tea to welcome the group back – finger sandwich selection (I’ll make those after yoga), mini scones (made by another volunteer) and cakes (lemon drizzle made by another volunteer and the apple cake I made………I’ll be busy serving so hopefully will manage a day well within my TDEE
Right off to get ready to drive to class……weather not as nice today, 50% chance of rain but dry and overcast at the moment…..
I thought I would share this quote from the Dalai Lama to inspire us – “There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow; so today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live”
Day 4- South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
I didn’t post yesterday. I have to leave at 8:15 am – feels like the middle of the night! – to drop off my laundry & then get to the mosaic class by 9 am. By the time I’d had lunch & bought groceries it was gone 3 pm. Boo Boo was ravenous 😅
@michelinme – welcome back! What an awful year you’ve had?! Wishing your daughter a full & speedy recovery 🤗
@merryapple – the bee 😂 I was in two minds about using it. ‘To bee or not to bee’… Sorry 🤦♂️ But I paid R 25 for it, so… And I’ve added another one to keep it company. I think it’s coming along nicely https://imgur.com/a/mj3YNnE I’m going to do the opposite side in a similar way. But I want to do something different with the adjacent sides. I’m think rainbows & leprechauns 🤔
@missybear – hoping you find your forever home soon. I was so lucky; I bought/sold 3 times since 2019 & each time the first person who came to view paid what I was asking! I rented a place for a few months before I bought my current house. I don’t plan on ever moving again though🤞
@excelsior12309 – the power 🤯 It came back on – supposedly permanently – on Saturday evening at 8:30 pm. After they told us it would be on by noon. Then yesterday morning it went off again around 10 am & came back on at 3 pm. I guess they’re having a few teething problems with the temporary substation.
@stitchincarol – that tax return?! I hate it. I think I had it all done in under an hour. But because it’s only once a year I never get used to it, & my stomach is in knots the whole time. The SA Services Revenue site is a nightmare to navigate. So I use this online tax service called ‘Tax Tim’, which takes most of the pain out of it.
@penz – what is it exactly that you’re struggling with? Is it the physical hunger, or is it a sense of deprivation, a feeling of missing out? Check out some of the threads on the home page, e.g. this one:- https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/finding-fast-days-very-difficult-dont-want-to-give-up/
@snowflake56 – enjoy your break! 🧳️
Happy Hump Day! 🐫
