  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Morning everyone, a day late but here I am at last.
Dave sorry to hear that Denise is still having problems which in turn are causing you a bit of stress, hopefully the next lot of antibiotics will do the trick.
Hedgehogs our daughter was due back on Sunday but due to the heavy snow where she was she had to stay until yesterday and even then her train was delayed getting to her station due to more snow further up the line. We collected her from our station near to us late yesterday afternoon, she had a lovely time and is seriously considering moving up there later in the year.
Jean sounds like you’ve had a trying time with your eye operation but glad your vision is getting slightly better. I’m having an eye test booked for next week.
Hemmy we had snow falling and settling in the early hours of Sunday morning but it had turned to rain when I woke up again and all the snow had gone. Enjoy your day out Thursday.
I started back on my 18:6 1300 calories daily on the 2nd and so far not doing to badly, apart from my usual Friday night takeaway.
A dentist check up appointment for both of us tomorrow so wondering what to have for our tea that doesn’t include garlic 🤔 might settle for egg & chips.
    Enjoy your day everyone.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Evening all

Well 2025 has had a bit of a dreary start to it so far. It’s supposed to be summer, but we’ve had grey rainy, windy weather and temperatures in the mid teens. Yesterday we were sick of it so we drove 2 hours into Roxburgh where the forecast was supposed to be sunny and 26 degrees rather the overcast and 16 degrees we were forecast to be getting.

This morning was fine and warm so I went out for a bike ride. I overdid it a bit and ended up riding 4.5 hours and rode 108kms, now I can hardly move my legs. But that doesn’t matter because a couple of hours after I got back the weather closed in and we got heavy rain and gale force winds again, so we’re confined to the house.

Thin, sounds like you had a great break, and congrats on getting your weight where you want to be.

Weigh-in for me tomorrow, hopefully I’ll see a little movement on the scale.

Cinque, it’s a constant struggle to stop from bingeing. It is getting easier at the moment with the increase in cheap fresh summer fruit and veg. When we were in Roxburgh we went to an orchard that did pick-your-own cherries and picked up a couple of kilos.

Well have a good one everyone.

    Day 7 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

@at – I’m glad you liked that article. I do the same – two meals a day, but usually a snack around 3 or 4 pm too. And all within an 8 hour window.

@stitchincarol – yes, my planter is home! It weighs a ton now 🥴️ I only got around to doing the top perimeter after Christmas. But my ficus tree is standing in it now. I put the existing pot in the planter, because I don’t want to risk the tiles falling off if I put soil/water inside. It looks okay anyway. Here are a few hastily-taken pics. The light’s not so good this morning though, & I don’t know how to change my camera settings. But I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out..

    Day 7, Aus FD

In posting this on my phone so apologies for so the typos that I know will occur.

Easy FD today as I’ve had to drive z dad to Sydney for a specialist appt before driving back home. The doctor is running late so it will be a very long day. But so easy to stay away from the fridge!

Did my big walk with the dogs this morning. I read somewhere that doing 10 000 steps a day is the same as 70 marathons a year. That’s a great fact (I’m not analysing it too much and want to belueve it to be true!) to use for motivation!

Still catching up on everyone’s news but seems lots of exciting things have/ are occurring.

I let Denise look at the graph it showed on my phone about my stress levels. She’s ordered more antibiotics. So a small win. If these don’t do any good I’ll try other ways to get her treatment. Not sure how though. Think they’re is still more snow to come. Will have to get Chloe done wellies😁

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Afternoon!
Dave- not good for you getting stressed, can you play on that & make Denise feel bad enough for worrying you that she goes back to the GP? Needs must! Hugs to you 🤗
Jean- good your eye is slowly getting better, take care of yourself & good idea to not fast this week. You’ll have a houseful of crochet creatures by the time the next fayre comes along!
Hemmy- nice you have a trip out planned later this week, such a dreary month otherwise!
I’ve not lost the Christmas weight yet either, have been more hungry, have done better today. Did a workout, just a beginners Joe Wicks one but did work hard! We went to get hubby’s hearing aids today, bliss now he’s not talking really loudly to me & the TV is quieter!

    Day 6 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 CD

Today was to be a FD but I didn’t sleep well last night so I’m feeling the need for a little more food than a FD allows. Decorations down and packed away this morning, I wonder where we will be living when they go up again next Christmas.

@stitchincarol the buyers want us to move out by April 😬 its a tight timescale!

@penz congratulations on your decision. I have never regretted early retirement, freedom from the rat race was well worth having to budget more carefully.

    Happy Monday everyone 🤗

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Hi everyone. Xxxx

Snow all gone but again so sick of all the wet everywhere .I think damp weather is the very worst..

Left it till late morning to walk and it was just drizzling when we started.. but dry at the finish.

So far a productive day .. hoovered all through completely some washing done .. trying to get my motivation back I lost before Xmas.

I was back to 4lbs up this morning..so need to get back on track from today. First week in Jan always hard though as feels flat
I am having the beef stew again this evening. Will do a few brussels.
    .
Going to Leamington Spa on Thursday with Pam .. lunch and charity shopping .. hopefully a dry day.

Dave.. Ohh stress is so hard to handle.. It must be so hard seeing Denise not well. The medical situation is really bad now.. years ago your local GP would soon have sorted it out. Good you got to bowls today will do you good.

H H .. Yes its good if Mum can keep her interest in things. I expect winter doesnt help though re going out. .

Sym… It sounds like all is going well again like the last Eye treatment. Yes sensible just eating how you feel this week one less hassle to think about.

Nana are you out and about.

Enjoy your afternoon friends,.. “It’s a good day to have a good day.” Xxxx

Had a good bowl it was 2°C but was well wrapped up. Just 3 of us today so we play a game called 5,15. The player on his own as to score 5 to win and the couple have to score 15 to win. We all won a game.

Hi everyone! great to see so many people posting and with us this month! In particular a big welcome back to @penz 💕´

Just a quick check in from me… first day back in work and it’s a shock to the system – a greater shock than my swim 😂😂 @stitchincarol I can’t possibly think what that word might be 😂😂 In all, I swam three times over the break.. Saturday was the coldest air temperature…

Keeping up with my exercise etc 💪and am back in the daily posting zone from today. 🗒️ 🖊️

Day 6 – Rural Nebraska, USA – CD

I quit eating around 4:30 yesterday, so it’s nice not to wake up with a stuffed belly. I’m not sure what we’ll have for dinner today, but I’m going to make sure I’m no higher than 1200 calories for the day. This is the week I start shifting this Christmas weight and all the rest of it besides.

@merryapple All your visitors sound delightful and overwhelming, simultaneously; it’s good to hear from you!

@penz Not only is it lovely to have you back with us, but what a huge and lovely decision you’ve made not to go back to work! Now begins the huge job of retirement where you get healthy, strong and fit, just like @at did when she retired, and just like I plan when DH retires in May. We can do this, my friend!

@funshipfreddie So have you gotten your planter home? Are you going to plant something in it, or just have some sort of branch arrangement in it, or just leave it on its lovely own?

@brightonbelle Well done on F800 going well for you; you’re making it look easy and you’re motivating me to set some determined goals for myself!

@at Thanks for commenting on your set point and that article, as that reminded me to go read it; @funshipfreddie was right that it’s probably nothing we don’t already know, but it was still motivating to read it. Here’s a question for you: did you find the routine of working or the freedom of retirement easier for setting fitness and eating goals and then achieving them? I know you didn’t do that until after you retired, but perhaps that was more to do with your decision than with what was possible. DH and I talk almost daily about our impatience for him to be retired, but also about the challenge of an entirely open schedule. You’ve certainly set the bar high for what can be accomplished when someone retires!

@northgeorgia So glad you’re feeling better. Well done on accomplishing a FD yesterday, and well done on choosing to do one today as well!

@molij Yeah, the Jenny Doan vidoes are good to watch, and so are the Jordan Fabric videos. I’m still trying to figure out when I can work on the t-shirt quilt again, but am delighted to be starting the ribbing today on DH’s Fair Isle, exactly two years since I started it. We’re planning to take down the decorations today, but I also want to FINISH that sweater…it’s time, LOL!

@lilymartin Congratulations on being down 1.6kgs!

@ccco Have you ever mentioned how much weight you’re wanting to lose? Do you have a goal date of when you’ll have lost it?

It’s a rather brisk 4/-15.5, and the feels-like temp is -10/-23. But the skies are blue and we have no snow to scoop, so I won’t care a bit once the furnace gets the house warmed up; until then, I’ll stay covered with my lap quilt and get started on that ribbing.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Vegetable Garden tidied, it was dirty work as everywhere is so wet and muddy. We are having a massive problem with rats around the chickens. It’s the first year we have had this problem. What’s worrying is they don’t seem to want to take the poison. I am going to buy some peanut butter to smear over the blocks today to see if that will persuade them to eat it. Having had pet rats when my children were small I feel quite sad about putting the poison down.

We have decided to plant vegetables this year even though the house will be up for sale. We don’t know how long it will take to sell and we think that the garden will look better if people have an idea of what they can do with it. I am hoping the house doesn’t take too long to sell as my youngest daughter wants me to look after the youngest granddaughter one day a week something I am really keen to do.

I am feeling really positive about weight loss this month. I will be going to my daughters towards the end of the month but for the rest of it I will be in control of what I eat.

Went for a follow up scan this morning on a Thyroid Nodule I was diagnosed with three years ago. It must have changed as I have got to have a needle biopsy on it in the next month. Not looking forward to that.

@brightonbelle you are right we can do this together 💪 I too am aiming for less alcohol this month, hopefully year too.

@funshipfreddie not worried about the spread sheet missing its data, just noticed it was the only one which was like it.

@ccco the Maryland Hawk sounds very scary.

@stitchincarol looking forward to seeing your quilt. I love quilt making and have made quite a lot of them. Patchwork quilts are my favourite to make. I love watching the Missouri Star videos on YouTube with Jenny Doan.

@northgeorgia hope you are feeling better.

@iona72 I will be planting my tomato seeds soon. Hope you are all feeling much better.

    Day 6 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 236 lbs. We avoided the swath of snow today, but we may not be as lucky on Friday. I hope we either get rain or snow, not ICE which shuts off the power and heat / hot water (for me) and makes driving impossible.

We’re still remembering former President Carter here in Georgia before his body is transported to the U.S. Capitol to lie in state.

I’m feeling better today, and yesterday was a FD. Going to try for another FD today and we’ll see what the week brings. I’d like to get in three FDs this week to get me going for the month.

    Day 6 – UK – FD

A bit later than planned (my FD on Day 2 sadly didn’t happen!!) but definitely pressing my RESET button today with my first FD of 2025 – feeling positive and motivated!

Weight this morning surprisingly was 64kg – despite the many food and🍷🥂 indulgences partaken over the past 3 weeks in particular, but all the NY celebrations are now done and it’s nice to get back to normal

Good to see so many familiar faces back on a positive note for this Joyous January Challenge – thank you @stitchincarol for herding us back on the straight and narrow this month

Woke up to some snow yesterday morning and went for a 4mile snowy hike with friends – certainly felt like we were working hard – lunch was a warming bowl of pulled pork ramen and a light supper kept me at TDEE – Today the snow in our village is all gone but plenty still left on the lower slopes of the fells around us!

@funshipfreddie – thanks for that article – Really interesting – I think that’s what happened to me i.e. Weight creep reset my body’s set point – lots of good advice in the article and I hope to work on lowering my set point, I think I can follow the 7 practical steps to prevent weight creep except for emphasising breakfast over dinner – I have 2 meals a day – brunch/lunch and evening meal and due to the evening meal being the only one that OH and I have together it tends to be our main meal but usually eaten by 7pm except on rare occasions

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

don’t really *want* to lose more weight – sorry.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Happy New Year all, it’s the day after FD and I’m 59.2kg so I’m very pleased with myself. I’ll now revert to 6:1 as I don’t really to lose more weight (said no one ever).

Back from a superb family Christmas spent at a warm, comfortable Georgian mansion in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The dogs (wire haired Vizsla and Jack Russell) were great fun and much better behaved than their respective breeds’ reputations might suggest. It was a rare insight into how aristocrats live their lives. We observed the spectacle of the horse and hounds hunt and encountered grouse shooters, both highly controversial activities in England.

The property was so remote, the golden silence punctuated by the occasional shriek of a female fox or hoot of an owl, the views from all aspects of the house spectacular, not to mention the sunrises and sunsets, the clear star-studded sky at night, deer and pheasants roaming the fields. Other than the cleaner and the man who came to chop our firewood and put pellets in the boiler, we saw almost no one.

DD picked up on an ear infection on the Vizsla and treated it (with the owners’ grateful permission, of course), removed a wobbly baby tooth, did both dogs’ anal glands (yuk), clipped their nails and we gave them both a bath and groom (no mean feat for the wire-haired dog) before the owners returned. The outdoor hose had hot water! They also have a horse but, thankfully, it spent its Christmas elsewhere.

We enjoyed some Viking Way hikes with the doggos, despite the very cold temperatures. Other days, we walked the fields of the property. I managed to cook the traditional ‘English’ Christmas dinner on their Aga and we played silly games like Taskmaster (Christmas Crackers), solved a Cryptic Killer Mystery over several days, completed a WASGIJ puzzle and played board games. 19 glorious days spent as a little family.

Now back on the boat where it’s snowing. I hope everyone’s had a super holiday – I’ll try to skim read some posts to catch up in the coming days.

And the winter walking trousers that have been too small, I tried on this morning and I can do them up. They’re tight but wearable and as it’s chilly I am wearing them today. Beyond thrilled 😀.

A real Sunday pocket list yesterday?! We’re a tenacious bunch of fasters! 🎯💪

@missybear – congrats on the house sale! 🥳️ And fingers 🤞🤞you find your new home soon 🏡

@merryapple – you’ve been busy?! I’m sure you’ll be relieved to eventually get your space & routine back to normal

@penz – welcome back! And congrats on making that huge decision to retire for good 🎉

@ccco – cheese is dangerous! 😅 I have to weigh it – no more than 30 g at a time, & I cut it into small pieces so it looks like there’s more 🤪

Many people return to work here today, so I’m hoping some tranquillity will return to our town. Schools don’t reopen until next week in our province though, so we won’t quite be back to normal yet.

I have given quite a lot of leftovers away and made a mental note not to buy them next year. It’s my birthday next week which is looking like drinks and nibbles at a friend’s house who has just had her knee replacement. I have a whole Christmas cake, bottle of Prosecco and cheese straws to share as my contribution.

I have been working my way through chocolate that I was given, some given away as gifts over Christmas. On balance I have been very good and avoided the worst excesses without feeling like I was missing out.

I suspect that this couple of weeks are not going to be great but that’s life. I can still wear the trousers that I struggled to get into in the summer.

    Day 6, Aus, CD

Hello everyone and happy new year. Thank you for hosting, @stitchincarol. Your opening post resonates with me. Like others, the FDs themselves are not joyous, but the PFDS and end results are definitely worth focusing on and celebrating.

Well, I’m back on the wagon (a-gain!) but really really need to stick with it. I’m getting older and the weight distribution these days just is not flattering. I used to have a lovely small waist (ok, admittedly in my teens and 20s) and it’s now gone AWOL!

I’ve decided I am NOT going back to work after my paid leave finishes in March. This was a big decision for me but I now feel so much more relaxed having made it. Now to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life: get healthy, strong and fit!

    Evening All..
A good walk along the riverbank this morning walking slow so didn’t go so far but out for the same time. A good 3” of snow Charlie was very excited the deepest he’s seen.

Through the day my eye is getting clearer, I can see the TV but still cloudy but better.

    Dave..
I am frightened of falling after the fall of a few years ago. It’s better on the grass for me not so slippy. I only have to do about 30 yards to the river bank. Glad your son sorted the electric out.

    Hemmy..
Your food sounds yummy, I do get lazy now. Go steady with the driving….
A bit naughty I have been crocheting, one octopus and two pop up mushrooms with eyes. Surprising what you can do with one eye 😂. Making them for next Xmas school fete.

    Hedgehog..
Umm a cheese soufflé, I had one in Texas very nice. I do think before my drops I don’t want a bad neck again. Hope your mum gets to her clubs again it will be a shame if she doesn’t..

Well, my kitchen is closed. I didn’t end quite where I wanted to. I ate too much cheese! In any case, it was a healthy overload. If I can’t turn down cheese then I think for now that I had better not buy any! LOL Tomorrow will be a big exercise day, as I try to remove all that snow. Maybe, if we are lucky, we don’t get as much as has been predicted.

    See you all tomorrow!

Day 5 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

Our promised snow turned into a few clusters that were blown to either side of the street. A little sad, but mostly thankful to have nothing to scoop! Our sons, in Lincoln, 45 miles south of us, got 3 inches, but it’s so dry it’s just blowing around, so they also have little to scoop. A heavy, wet snow will come, however, as it’s winter on the plains…

@northgeorgia Bummer; I hope the virus leaves you as quickly as it’s attacked you. Planning FDs around social obligations/choices is quite challenging!

@iona72 Bummer for your household as well; hopefully you also will all be healthy soon. Can any of your food be frozen for a later date?

@ccco Well, perhaps you wanted fewer calories that 890, but you do that very many days in a row, and you WILL lose weight. 👍💪

@jaifaim A SEA SWIM???? IN JANUARY IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE????? I think, dear woman, that you are absolutely nuts! 🤣😟🤣 I can’t quite bring myself to type the C word, but I’m thinking it. You know, the 15-letter one you say when someone has accomplished something difficult, or significant, or amazing. But, no, I can’t quite bring myself to type it because I truly think you’re nuts! 😉🥰🤣 Amazing, but nuts.

@funshipfreddie I’m sure you’re thankful for the cooler day today!

@molij I’ve certainly had days like that; hope all goes well for you today with what’s keeping you busy.

@missybear Well, CONGRATULATIONS! (for you, I’ll use the word…) When does escrow close? (That, at least, is how it’s phrased in the States, and means, when do you have to be out of your house?) And also congratulations for only a pound and a half over Christmas!

@brightonbelle Well, I’m certainly impressed to find you on the pocket list on a Sunday!

I made dramatic progress on the t-shirt quilt yesterday, getting about half the 35 t-shirts interfaced and cut to the right size. I need to sew a couple baby quilts also, but I’m determined to finish DH’s sweater first…hopefully tomorrow!

Hemmy- well done in the 4wd going out in the snow! Does Pip love it? Enjoy your stew … Mum’s still not doing great, her usual clubs etc start back next week, so fingers crossed! But she’s getting lazier & won’t go out if the weather is miserable, which isn’t like her…

    Hi Everyone Xxxx

We woke this morning to quite a coating of snow.

I left it till noon to walk I wasnt sure whether to walk to a small field or take the car. Hardly any traffic.

Decided to risk it ..we got there slowly as its up and down hill lucky I kept Andrew trusty old 4×4 Kia. It never lets me down.

The cottage smells lovely as I have had diced beef and lots of veg herbs wine ..in the croc pot for a good few hours. .. Not sure whether dumplings or mashed potatoes. . Lots to freeze.

Sym .. so glad your eye had started to feel better .. how is it going today.. What have you been doing

Dave.. I can completely understand your fear of falling while out.. I felt the eame today .. getting older sucks lol.

H H.. What have you been up to. Is Mum any more relaxed now the hustle of Christmas is over. . ..

Enjoy your evening all.. Make this the year you redirect your energy towards what matters most. Xxxx

I can’t believe that we are already 5 days in for January! The days go quickly, don’t they! In any case, one of my focuses this month is to begin to try to swap out old habits for better good habits. I have been doing a lot of reading about that. I do know that one of the best ways to avoid eating when I shouldn’t is to keep busy. This makes summer my best time because at the very least I can go outside to take a walk (I can’t run anymore! Got too old! LOL). Or I could go out to play golf or take my grandchildren to the pool or to the park. Well, I can add shoveling snow but we haven’t had much snow in a number of years. Last year, we did have a dusting but not much before that year. This year Winter has returned full force. By the end of Monday, we will have up to 9 inches of snow, with more coming next Saturday. I will just look at it as exercise when I remove it but the frigid temperatures are another thing altogether!

Funshipfreddie, as soon as I finish writing, I will check out that article. I love that you send us tbose.

MissyBear, Happy New Year to you, too. I am glad that you have sold your house, even if the event occurred over Christmas. I look forward to hearing about the homes you look at for a future purchase. My daughter and her husband just sold their house and have purchased a beautiful home not far from me. Needless to say, I am pleased to have her close by. Also, congratulations that you only gained 1 1/2 lbs. over the holidays. They are always a challenge.

Hope everyone is having a great day! Now on to reading Funshipfreddie’s article.

    Day 5 UK f800

Never thought I’d be on the list on a Sunday , but going strong – the thought that I’m only doing this stage for 2 weeks makes anything seem tolerable

It is quiet @stitchincarol , maybe more tomorrow?

Good afternoon everyone snow during the night and now it’s turned all slushy. Took Chloe out and she was ok but definitely not looking forward to going out late tonight if it freezes.I think the older you get the more worried you are about falling. One good thing with Chloe, she dosent pull. Heidi had me over twice in 50 yards when it snowed. If I fell with Chloe she would really panic and so would I, it’s difficult to get up off the floor.Since we have had the kitchen fitted a few years ago the fuses have gone 2 or 3 times. They went yesterday but my son sorted it out. The old wireing never seems to have any problems.I need a new wall socket putting on but the ones who put the existing ones didn’t leave much room behind the socket so I’ll have to see what I can do. Chicken for tea tonight what you all having?

    Day 5 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

    Happy New Year everyone!
We unexpectedly found ourselves negotiating the sale of our house over Christmas. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Here’s hoping something comes up on the market for us to buy soon 🤞

Dragging myself back onto the 5:2 wagon today after a couple of weeks of abandon. I weighed myself this morning and I was pleasantly surprised to see I only gained one and a half pounds during December, so I’m planning to shift that and a little more this month. Today is going to be a gentle day of adjustment before tomorrow’s FD.

@stitchincarol thank you for hosting, I love the joyous theme for the start of the year.

Haven’t got time today to write much. Hopefully I will have more time tomorrow. Have a good day everyone.

    Day 5 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD 💪

Noticeably cooler today, only going up to 25 C. Some cloud about & a possibility of rain this afternoon – so exciting! 😅 And my cat actually let me sleep beyond 6 am, so it’s all good 😺

@stitchincarol – yes, I suppose there are some things that we just can’t do the same as we did when we were younger, eating with abandon being one of them. I don’t think I ever even weighed myself until I was in my mid-twenties. And that was only because my mum told me in a letter that I was looking too skinny after I’d sent her some photos from SA.

@molij – no, I’ve no idea what happened to the Dodgy December spreadsheet. Our techno-whizzes are usually @at & @merryapple. I don’t think people usually bother with the old spreadsheets once the month has passed though. Maybe you could take a screenshot of the current one at the end of the month if you need to keep the data?

@brightonbelle – congrats on the Saturday morning PFDS & for swearing off the booze! This disturbing article from yesterday’s UK Mail on new research might help with your Dry January resolve:-

@excelsior12309 – I hope your old corgi is still feeling perkier? I have the opposite problem with Boo Boo; she’s permanently perky when she’s not sleeping. Yesterday she brought me a huge grasshopper AND a gecko. Both alive & intact though. I caught the grasshopper & took it outside, but the gecko is still loose somewhere in the house 😳

    @northgeorgia – feel better soon! 🤧

@iona72 – wishing your DH a speedy recovery. I hate the cold/winter too; I think that’s the main reason I’ve stayed in Africa.

@jaifaim – a swim in the sea in the middle of winter?! 🥶️

@ccco – I hope you don’t have too much snow to shift?!

    Day 3 – NFD

    158.2 lbs

Hello all… still busy busy but all is great… so many ill around me but I haven’t caught it so happy out… thanks for the new year treating as gaeilge @ccco and I spotted the Welsh greeting too @molij and @missybear now that’s a prononciation challenge 😊

@stitchincarol yes trying to make sure to hang on in here through these busy days and very much of the mindset that I need to change up a few things this year… who was it said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Was it Einstein? Well whoever it was it’s singing to me now as I really do need to make some lifestyle changes.. not just for fasting but for my own wellbeing through this tricky stage of life.. it won’t be easy but needs must… too many balls in the air right now and I must mind me to mind others.. 💕💕

Having said this… it’s been a great weekend.. fun times with friends and a sea swim today! Yes! I am feeling proud of myself and strong 👍 that will be the shock 😂

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Good morning everyone,
39C forecast today, but a kind cloud meant my little flat missed 3 hours of hot sun pouring in through the front windows, so I am feeling very lucky. And the cool change should come through pretty early tomorrow.

    Happy New Year,
yikes Neil I haven’t stopped thinking about your quarter century remark.

What a good sensible New Years resolution you have made.

Cali, what a nice way to finish off 2024.

Gday I was with you, not staying up, and I even slept through the midnight changeover. My 8yo granddaughter was on the phone early the next morning, devastated that she had fallen asleep before midnight, and needed reassuring that the whole year wasn’t going to be terrible because of it.

No idea how you managed to work out in the yard in that heat! But well done!

Anzac I do hope you can get some pictures up. Good luck job hunting.

I had an eating-binge day and now feel like I am all stomach. Sigh. It sounds like nearly all of us are in the same boat. Hooray for a new year, a new month, a new day.

    Sending out best wishes

  • If your clothes are looser but the scales are the same, read on

A good start Annette, we also have leftovers although I’m trying to give them away! I will weigh tomorrow and set a goal. I can see how easily I could get off track so I need to get my focus back.

  • If your clothes are looser but the scales are the same, read on

Well the scales are moving down by a little which is great but there’s leftovers from Christmas which we are working through….

There’s 6 weeks until the end of term, so my goal is to try to lose 6 lb. I work better with smaller goals, so that’s a plan.

Probably fast at the weekend and try and ignore the biscuits at work and choose fruit instead. I need to see what the food options are this week and make smart choices.

    USA Day 4. FD

Hmmm! Day 4 already! Time does fly!

I decided to go to the grocery store at 8 am this morning with the hope I would get there before the pre-snow crowd. Well, it turns out that crowd was there on Friday instead. Nevertheless, I was able to get all the food I wanted but I had to go to two stores to find something to melt ice after Monday’s snowfall. We are expecting about 9″ of snow that day. We haven’t had significant snowfall in a number years. New York City had its first significant snowfall recently for the first time in 15 years! It’s amazing! There definitely is something going on with the environment. The past few winters have even been warm enough for me to play golf here in the winter months. That is clearly not going to happen this year.

@stitchincarol, I did eventually get my food back then because I had paid for it but it didn’t come in time to serve my purpose. Sometimes I will let my local grocery store do my grocery shopping for me and then I will pick it up at a designated time. That have done a good job with fresh produce, so I haven’t had a problem with that. Sometimes I am just too busy or it’s too cold for me to want to spend the time going out shopping for a few hours. When driving becomes an issue with age, I will order delivery.

MollJ, I didn’t like ordering food during Covid either but I also didn’t like standing inline outside six feet apart out in the cold, either! It took getting some use to but it doesn’t bother me now…and we don’t have to stand outside!

Excelsior12309, I had two fish ponds myself in the past, one of which had koi. I also had a few ducks my daughter brought home from an outdoor market. Here in Maryland, we have a large bird called the Maryland Hawk. It is capable of flying away with a cat or a small dog. Well, it ate all my koi and killed all the ducks one night. The next day, it looked like a massacre had taken place. I knew those birds were not going to leave us alone, so we didn’t restock our pond anymore.

You are right FUNSHIPFREDDIE! I should be able to find a teenager to clear my walkway and driveway but there are none in my neighborhood. There are small children and any grandchildren but no one who could help. Fortunately, my walkway and driveway are not very big, so it is a quick job. I chalk it up to being exercise, even though I hate the cold! 🤨

I closed out my kitchen at 890 calories. I wanted to eat fewer calories but I seem to have gotten low potassium levels and I am trying to eat my way out of that. Unfortunately, those potassium rich foods are a little higher in calories, making it a little harder to keep the caloric content down but I will find a way.

Sorry, NorthGeorgia, that you are under the weather. There seems to be a lot of illness going around right now. So far, it has missed me!

    See you all again tomorrow!👍🏻

    Day 4 NE England NFD

We are fighting coughs and colds here, DH has been quite ill and ended up on antibiotics. as a result we have quite a bit of festive food still in the house. I’ve tried to give daughter some but she is not keen!
Cold here today too and some snow the next couple of days. I hate the winter especially snow and ice after a nasty fall which shattered my elbow a few years ago. I am also itching to get in the garden to tidy up @molij can’t wait to start planting some seeds for Spring.
I will step on the scale tomorrow and ponder the plan for the week ahead!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

HH the women are all nervous about getting weighed on Wednesday.I think I have 3 more months but could be 4, definitely no more than that. Very rare we go away in Britain during the winter but did go to Burford on 40th birthday for a few days, coming home it was heavy snow so was glad to get home. Actually skidding on the road coming home. I remembered to always steer into the skid so straightened the car straight away. Was pleased with that. It’s the only time it’s ever happened to me.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening All…
My eye is feeling much better, 3rd lot of drops done. It’s funny being blind in one eye, although I can see shapes starting to come through. A bit more tomorrow hopefully. It took 4 days last time to improve to see, then improved daily.

    Hedgehog..
Lovely to have a few days away booked. Fays just gone to Australia for a month, she and hubby are both going with a very bad cough they have had for two weeks, some lucky person will catch it!!

    Dave..
I hope Denise will get off jury service. She definitely isn’t well enough to go.

    Hemmy..
Yes I shall rest up for the week let everything heal, just walking get the blood circulating and fresh air.. that makes you feel good.
    Kirsty holiday cottage sounds lovely.

    Day 4 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 237 lbs. Well, just as I think I’m getting better, I feel it creeping into my bronchials today. I’ll take some Mucinex, which I’ve avoided to this point alongside lots of water when I get off the computer, and dose myself with citrus.

Blah! Maybe I’ll recover enough to get back on the 5:2 by tomorrow.

    Day 4 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 157.8

My restraint yesterday paid off, despite the pizza. Today is my quilt retreat, so that will keep me away from food…except that I’m gueessing many of the other women there will bring snacks. Hopefully not, but I’m building up my RESOLVE so that I resist it and just work on the quilt. Tonight I’m making a bean casserole for supper, and have really been looking forward to that, so that will help get me through the day with no nibbling.

@ccco Another good day; well done. That’s a huge shame about not getting your groceries. Did you talk to the store/company and complain? I can’t believe they didn’t make it good for you.

@funshipfreddie Yup, you have hot weather, too. Ours is currently 14F/-10C and the low tomorrow night and Tuesday night both is forecast to be 4/-15…it’s well and truly winter finally, and we’re even forecast for snow tonight…we’ll see if we get much to get excited about. As to shame for eating what I shouldn’t, I was so restrained for so many years, that I grew accustomed to being in control and being able to keep my weight where I wanted it, so it’s very, very tough to accept that I’m no longer that woman. I prefer to think I can control myself…and I’m finally getting much better at it, and more like the woman I used to be.

@excelsior12309 That’s interesting about feeding koi in winter months–as you say, who knew?! Is your corgi getting better with the prednisone?

@molij Your goal is right at where my goal used to be, but I’ve lowered it a bit further to 132lbs/60kg, the weight I was for fifteen years, and loved. I haven’t weighed that little since 2003, so we’ll see how challenging it is to get there. How long has it been since you were at 64kg?

@brightonbelle Well done! I also get headaches from even a small glass of red wine, so well understand the joy of not waking up with one.

I too have noticed how quiet it is here–unusually, for January–and love @funshipfreddie‘s question if it’s because they’re celebrating the full 12 days of Christmas. @merryapple, @at, @lilymartin, @flourbaby and far more of you, we miss you and hope to see/hear/read you soon! 😉🥰

    Have a grand one, everyone!
