When I had my heart attack they said in hospital that fasting was good for me, Denise gained half a pound this week so it’s not happy, she’s not getting any better and I’m sick of telling her to see the doctor, she’s so stubborn. The sun is out so going bowling this afternoon give Denise chance to catch-up on her soaps. She’s ordered sausage and mash with onion gravy for tea so I must make it ok. Have the cows gone for the winter now Jean?

    Day 23 NFD NZ 69.2kg 🏃🏼‍♀️

Up a wee bit but I had a large delicious wild Venison steak for dinner last night. No @flourbaby, it wasn’t Bambi… (might be a close relative though) Deer cause so much damage to the flora in NZ and I’m happy to support the hunters.
Tonight was fish and it’s a FD for me tomorrow.
@penz I hope your dogs approved the training course for you🤣
@funshipfreddie Delighted to know you’re a knitter!! We’re getting a lot of hot air from Australia at the moment(what’s new!) It’s getting dry here and temps are up for this time of year
Absolutely fantastic @stitchincarol!!! You’ll be down to your Xmas goal soon, not that I can remember what that was!!
Same to you @northgeorgia Great to see you’re numbers down
@ccco That sounds like a good plan. Your mindful eating might just be the ticket for you!!
@excelsior12309 Yes best you leave those Halloween candies in their bags!!!
@michelinme Your DD will be happy to see you… Take care of yourself too…

    Day 23, London, UK, FD800

I forgot to press submit yesterday and today I pressed submit, but wasn’t logged in!!😩😡😡

Today’s lost post wasn’t particularly lengthy as I’m absolutely flat out and haven’t had a chance to catch-up & comment!!

I’m plodding along but not getting the desired results! I’m going to revisit my plan this weekend, perhaps the dairy has to go!😳😩😳 I should have shares in ‘Authentic Greek Yoghurt’🤤🤤

Anyway, I hope everyone’s doing well & keeping the faith!! I’ll try to squeeze some more time from somewhere so I can catch up with everyone!🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Morning All..
Waiting to meet with Oreo and Natalie, cows have gone so going on our usual river side walk which is out of my village.

I had a good fast day Monday and a busy day yesterday.
I repaired my decking I think it is a bit rotten on the side but much better now. Might be new decking in the spring unless I can push it.

    Dave..
My TV is on most of the day more for noise then it gets turned off for some peace.. you can’t win.
I buy bits from charity shops if it’s good bargain or kitchen bits.

    Hemmy..
The list sounds good.. I did think of a wipe board but never got round to doing it.
My eyes are making me feel off they are gritty and itchy. It’s hard to come on my phone to see.

    Hedgehog..
You must do 24 jobs a day!!!!
Good luck on your plumber hope he gets to you.
When I got my Covid jabs my doctor did it.. he does a 24 hour fast on a Monday , says how good it is for you. Still he is very slim. He was telling me well done, I haven’t been to surgery for 10 years since I started fasting. Nice to see and have a chat with him.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

More crazy coincidences Quacka….we fly on the 17th too but at 9pm – Sydney to Dubai on Emirates first class!! We have been saving our points for 5 years as we did first class in our big trip in 2019 and really want to do it again. It’s amazing, you have your own little suite with a door that closes and there is a big shower so you can freshen up before you land. It’s incredible that some people travel this way all the time as it is AUD 26,000 for two people one way. We are paying $1,200 total in fees and charges and 184k points

And I have the dentist tomorrow too!

Thanks for the anniversary wishes, I have taken the afternoon off work but sadly to clean the house, not go out somewhere. We thought about going out but with so much happening in the next few weeks we decided we would just cook something nice together

Good luck tomorrow, dentists are not fun but a necessary evil

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Good Afternoon Everyone

I’m still here and still fasting just been really busy at work again and also trying to organise our NZ trip.

Today is my Wednesday FD and so far so good. Feeling a bit hungry at the moment but it’s 3pm and I’ll get through.
Monday’s FD was great. The boss was here and I had so much to do so it went quickly and easily. I’m still hanging in the 77 range so I’m hoping to see 76s tomorrow, I think I’ve been in a bit of a plateau as well Neil.

thin, I don’t like doing B2B FDs but sometimes they are just needed if I’m going to fit two into a week. The second FD is usually a few more calories than usual but I find if I am in the right frame of mind, I can do it. Hopefully I will be in the right mindset next week as I will be going to breakfast with my gym friend on Wednesday so Monday and Tuesday will be my FDs.
My OH doesn’t do formal fasting but sometimes he doesn’t eat breakfast as he is too busy surfing! Then he is ravenous for lunch lol

Anzac, Happy Anniversary!! I wonder if we are going to be at the airport on the same day. We are flying out on the 17th November but very early in the morning.

Well I better go. Almost time for home and then I am making dinner and we will be eating early tonight. I’m hungry!
Tomorrow is first appt for the first crown so not looking forward to that. I’ll be ok.

Take care all and look forward to reading your posts xx

    Day 23, FD, Aus

Sorry, MIA again yesterday. I’m dialling in to a dog training summit all week and even though I’m on the computer I didn’t find the time to log in to this forum.

FD today as we’re off to a wine dinner tomorrow.

When I was at uni, I was taking those multi-vitamin supplements. One day I had a real craving for carrots (ie real food) and I checked the recommended daily allowance for the various vitamins in the supplement. All of them were 100% except for beta carotin. I reckon my body was out of balance and telling me I needed to top up the carrots! (I don’t taken supplements any more, and no longer have real food cravings…)

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Hello all, quick check in. Just under 4 weeks until the holiday and work is beyond crazy. Was able to have a quick catch up on recent posts and it sounds like everyone is going along nicely

We have a family ‘Christmas’ celebration this Saturday as well as the November/December birthdays. We are going to a Thai restaurant which is unheard of for our family but it is just so much easier and not expensive. The restaurant is near our house so we will come back for dessert and coffee….which means a visitor clean is required! Gah! No time

Mr A and I are celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary on Friday. Lots of celebrating does not equate to weight loss unfortunately

Must run, sorry for being an absent friend 🙁

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Neil I’ve postponed my 48 hour fast until the weekend. Miss GDay made a luscious chocolate cake and biscuits on Monday as her Aunty is here for a few weeks staying with relatives and Miss GDay loves baking treats for her when she visits. I always feel guilty if I don’t eat some of her baking as she puts in so much effort and they are always beautifully decorated. So needless to say the scales nudged in the wrong direction the last few days. Given we are going out to lunch on Friday there was no point in trying to get the 48 hour fast in this week, might as well wait until the damage is done for the week and then fast. Great mistake to make Neil, well done.

Thin I do so many different things to ensure (or try to ensure) I have good physical health and mental wellbeing so I really can’t say that cold showers directly attribute. However I’m sure they do as research shows this is the case and the centuries old practice of cold plunges must account for something.

Thin lucky you to get free apples. I love eating an apple a day, always a Granny Smith which are cooking apples as I love their taste over any other variety, although given the extremely limited varieties avail here (only 3 varieties in our local supermarkets) I can’t say I’ve tried too many. I have a Granny Smith and Red Delicious in my garden (apple trees need 2 specific varieties to polinate and produce fruit) so I eat both but GS in my absolute favourite. Lots of new buds and flowers on the trees so hoping for a good crop coming up.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Morning all,

It looks like I’ve hit a bit of a plateau at the moment. I did manage to wipe off the 200g that I gained the previous week and an extra 100g on top of that, so I’m moving in the right direction again. But it’s pretty slow with effectively only 100g lost in the last 2 weeks.

    Have a great one everyone.

Edit, well I made a happy mistake, I thought I had gone from 110.3 to 110.5 last week, but it was actually 110.5 to 110.7, so my weigh in this morning of 110.2 was down the 200g I gained plus 300 more grams. I’m only 300 more grams away from my target of single digits above 100.

    Evening!
Hemmy- have a lovely lunch & day out tomorrow! Nice to get the washing dry outside, just to damp in our garden this time of year… You had me worried with 6 jobs a day 😂
Dave- that’s going to cost you, a whole new wardrobe! How is Denise doing with her diet, or is she in too much pain to diet, she must be miserable enough without being hungry on top?
Hope everyone else is okay 🥰
Up early this morning in case the plumber came- we can’t get our waste pipe from the kitchen sink properly unblocked, it’s too low down, but he never came, hopefully he’ll pop in tomorrow now, he’s so busy. Rang HomeStart family, & another friend, Xena went to the vets for her booster & have got some apoquel to calm her itchiness, just a seasonal allergy we think but it’s been going on longer. Doing 18:6 at the moment, weight stable…

A beautiful sunny day today nice to have dry walks.

    Day 22 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Crazy weather here. It took me an hour to drive 20 km this morning, due to flooded streets & road closures. But it looks like the worst is over for now.

@merryapple – a 90 minute brisk walk? No wonder you’re shrinking! 👏 No-one is EVER too old for Halloween candy though 🎃🕸🦇 🍭

@northgeorgia – get those needles out! 😅 My grandmother taught my older brother & I to knit AND crochet when I was about 9 years old. We had to stay with her in a high-rise apartment for a few months after we returned to the UK from Canada. I don’t think I ever advanced beyond knitting a scarf or crocheting a circle/square, & my dad wasn’t impressed when he found out how we’d been spending our time 🤣

    @michelinme – enjoy your trip 🚉

I’m also a busy one, with tons on my to-do list before I head to Omaha for lessons, so must dash.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Weigh-in: 235 lbs. Going for another FD500 today. My grandmother was good at that sort of thing. She taught me the basics of crocheting when I was a kid. Didn’t get past making chains though… my mom doesn’t claim any skill at knitting or crochet, but I’ll ask again haha

Still, yes, that is a good idea 😉

    Day 21-No. VA USA-NFD
Hello to all. Today is surprisingly warm here, but the fall-like weather returns in a day or two. We are very dry, however, and need some rain.
It is very interesting to read of everyone’s approach to food and meals. @ccco, I believe I agree with you about journaling food. I think it tends to make me a bit obsessed with things. After so many years, I do have a good idea of how many calories and carbs are present in most foods. And I know the naughty little candy packets at the office “for Halloween” have X number of calories each. If I just stay away from them, and then I don’t have to add them up!
Have a good day, all. I have a very early appointment today and have to rush!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

CalifD, thanks for the run down on California produce. I haven’t seen the Envy apples – although I haven’t looked as I only buy Pink Lady apples which have become a silly price. Lately, I haven’t bought any because there are always so many free cooking and eating apples available at this time of year.

It looks like the authorities did a good job of convincing people to leave Florida before the hurricane. That would have been scary to be unable to get a flight out. Unless you’re Neil’s relaxed friend.

GDSA, I loved, ‘Colin From Accounts’ series one, we didn’t enjoy the second series and didn’t finish it. I like the actors, it made a nice change to see some new Aussie actors and fun to learn that they’re married in real life. Did you find the cold showers improved your mental well-being as touted?

Neil, that’s a lot of sports stuff. There was an America’s Cup Race the first year I ever went to Perth 1985/6 I think it was. The whole town (Fremantle) was mad for it. I remember a poster on the back of all the buses with a drawing of the Cup contained in some thought bubbles and the slogan, “Wishful Thinking Kiwis’.

I banked a fast day on Saturday as DD was coming for the night on Sunday to spend two days with us. There’s a great pub near where we are currently moored so we went for a Sunday roast. I woke to a great low weight and blew it with a delicious nut roast and roast potatoes. So this week I must be very careful.

We also had our new canvas cratch cover fitted over the weekend which had been ‘patterned’ back in June. It looks very smart. The guy who made it lives on a boat too and we had to co-ordinate our movements. It can be challenging to get work done as a constant cruiser (aka water gypsy). We’re heading on towards our winter mooring this morning when it warms up a bit. I might need my hand and foot warmers. The leaves have turned to beautiful autumnal colours and the sunrises are super oranges and pinks.

    Have a great week everyone.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Afternoon all

I’ve had a decent week, I got out for a good 70km bike ride on Saturday to check how my body is going to cope with the rides I’ll be doing on my trip. I came through that ok. I did a bit of gardening on Sunday because we hit a balmy 20+ degrees. It was a good weekend for a NZ sports fan too, as I got to see us retain the America’s cup, win our first cricket test in India since 1988, become women’s T20 world cup champions, and win the first Netball test of the Constellation Cup. I’ve got a serious sports hangover this week, with nothing to watch anymore.

Speaking of hangovers, yes Thin, Bradley Cooper is in the Hangover movies, basically they’re a trilogy of r-rated comedies about a bunch of guys who get black-out drunk before a wedding get in trouble, and have to try to recreate what happened the following day. I think it was the second one, set in Bangkok, one of the characters decided to do some home dentistry with a pair of pliers.

Cali, there is a guy I know who lives in Cocoa in Florida, I checked in on him after the hurricane and he said he had some damage and only just got power and internet back, he said he was just sitting around drinking beers and grilling meat. That sounded like about the most American response to a hurricane that I could imagine XD

Gday, how’s your 48 hour fast going? I didn’t overeat much in the weekend, so I didn’t fast yesterday, but I’m having my usual pre weigh-in fast today.

I’ll check in with you all tomorrow for my weigh-in. I haven’t been eating much the last week, I haven’t really been feeling hungry, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Hopefully I can get over the little blip from last week and see some movement in the right direction again. I’d be happy if I just managed to wipe off the 200g I gained last week.

    Catch you all later

    USA. Day 21. FD

I ate a little more than I wanted but I have a feeling that mindful eating healthy foods and portion control is going to help me. @merryapple, I also plan out my meals each day like @stitchincarol but I am beginning to think that journaling my food is putting my mind too much on food. I have been journaling so long that I recognize a proper serving size when I see it but when I journal and see how many calories I ate and I have extra room for more food, I will go for the extra food. When I don’t journal, I don’t do that. I am going to try just spending time on improving my mindful eating to see where that takes me.

It sounds like everyone is doing well and I am glad to see that. I hope everyone had a lovely day. It was beautiful and warm today here! 😊

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 22 NZ NFD 68.6kg 🏃🏼‍♀️

My morning walk was a fast walk on my own from the house to Mt Eden and back – 1 1/2hrs. With dogs it would have taken twice as long!!
In terms of cravings, you’re so right @excelsior12309 about salt and sugar… I remember craving Vegemite when travelling in SE Asia and realised I was dehydrated and short of salt. Last week when I dropped weight faster than usual I was craving something sweet ie carbs for energy. It’s interesting to listen to your body when it’s sending you messages… However if it has been awash with fast food it needs retraining to break that UPF cycle that the fast food industry has capitalised on.
@funshipfreddie I start the day with tea then move to coffee… Sleep has never been much of an issue so I’ll happily drink coffee in the evening. But its diuretic effect is, so that halts late night consumption!!! I drink much more water in summer than winter.
@stitchincarol I dream of knitting… I cannot find my knitting belt despite tidying it away only a couple of months ago… I have been watching Hazel Tindall’s YouTube video on technique and think I might give it a go!! Your jersey sounds like it’s going to be ready for winter!! And agree entirely on the fact that sticky fingers and knitting are incompatible!! @northgeorgia You might be surprised at how many men knit!! Isn’t Halloween candy for the children?!!
@excelsior12309 have you noticed that @stitchincarol has two ts!!
That’s a very nice list of lemony desserts @flourbaby!!
I have big Lisbon (sour) 🍋 on the tree. Lemon Posset might be simple enough to have a go at making!!
@penz yes I will get another Westie but would like to do a nthern hemisphere trip before I have a puppy, possibly around this time this year.
@ccco Does @stitchincarol’s advice about planning sound as if it could help you?
@bert1802, @lilymartin Hope all is well with you both
    And you too @jaifaim😘

No pocket list so far today!!

    Evening!
Jean- rotten for you not being able to read very well, I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the cataract to be done .. sending you hugs 🤗
Mum has signed the will & POA, it has to be sent off as the original one has to be cancelled, but she doesn’t have to do anything else now, so she’s calmed down now!
Dave- keep strong, you’ve done so well with the diet, it is hard going when you’ve been on it a long while. & poor Denise, she does sound bad…a dog walker told us about a pen thing like a tens machine which has really helped her knee, Kevin was thinking about getting one for his shoulder, I can’t imagine they help with really bad arthritis though…did she ever try the CBD oil?
Hemmy- you look after yourself too, eat well! 6 things on a list to do every day sounds alot 😳 A couple on top of normal jobs will do me! Today’s were getting a couple of recipes written down, & sewing up a throw which has split…
    Nana- hope you’re okay xx
We were on call to take a neighbour in to hospital for her arm op today, messed her about a bit so hubby has just left now to take her in. Dropped washing off & brookies I’d made to son as he has a cake fine, did a bit of shopping – saw a couple of tops I liked in a charity shop, but they were £10! I refuse to pay that, it’s just being greedy! Got 2 books instead…I resisted the brookies, that was tough, there are a couple of pieces left here for hubby, but the keto cheese scones I made yesterday are very nice.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

We watch lots of TV, it’s on virtually all day and night. Lots of crime shows,I did enjoy the programme about canal boats and things like that. They do a cafe on the canal like Jean goes to. Will try it in the summer, they’re is another boat that does pizza. We watch lots of sport on TV as well. From football to cycling.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Day 21 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

My weight hasn’t changed from yesterday morning, which astonishes me both because my weight ALWAYS changes daily and also because I my eating wasn’t quite as well-behaved yesterday as I intended. And now I don’t even have supper planned for tonight yet and have nothing in the fridge ready to go, which is a challenge since the nearest grocery store is 12 minutes away. We’ll see what I pull off.

@merryapple So good to hear from you, and very, very, very impressive weight! Your black and hot pink outfit sounds big-smile-worthy!

@funshipfreddie Um…YES! LOL! You and @northgeorgia burn at LEAST a thousand calories more per day than I do, at LEAST; that makes weight loss far easier for you two. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@flourbaby I’m so touched by how you and your brother tag-teamed getting your mom to sleep. The glass of wine aside, what a lovely memory. ❤️🥰😘

@northgeorgia I just had a thought. If it’s during “show watching times” which I take to mean television, how about learning a hobby that involves your hands but still allows you to watch? Knitting does that for me, many people crochet, counted cross stitch is another option and perhaps the simplest to learn. Does your mom do any of these that she could teach you? That’s the greatest way to avoid snacking, because you can’t touch your project with orange-Cheetos fingers, LOL!

It’s a beautiful day out, with the leaves out my front windows a vivid yellow that will only last a few days. I’m helping with handing out food at the Lincoln Food bank truck in our church parking lot this afternoon, and think I want to make pork chops with the same rub we had at the birthday dinner last week, so now I’ll hustle off to town to get the few groceries I need.

    Have a great one, everyone!

Weigh-in: 237 lbs. Planning a B2B FD500 today and tomorrow. Might be able to squeeze in another FD on Thursday if all goes well. Next week will be tough. It will mean trying to fast on Halloween when all that candy is around in unusual places. But I’m not usually tempted by candy alone, once again it has to do with certain people or post-meal situations. Thanks for the tips. These are things I already know, but it’s a nice reminder. Everyone seems to be on track today. @flourbaby, unpacking from moving is almost as aggravating as the move itself, it always seems to me. One box at a time! I think in our garage, we have boxes from when we moved to this house in 1989. Not a lot of them, and they don’t have anything essential in them, but honestly!!!
@brightonbelle, good news for you. October will prove outstanding for you.
@stichincarol you explained food associations very well. And @funshipfreddie, you are absolutely right, I think–food cravings almost never involve healthier foods, but rather those super salty, super sweet, etc things we call “junk food”. Who eats 6 apples or a large green salad at a sitting, while watching a game?
@merryapple, your outfit sounds very chic. Making the best of an annoying situation with the hand splint!
@northgeorgia, I think @stichincarol’s practice of planning an “eating-out” menu might help you when you are accompanying your mom to lunch or dinner. Does she support your weight control efforts, would you say?
@penz, I have to have my coffee in the morning, or my day is not starting right. But I don’t have to eat anything with it; though I do enjoy an English muffin or toast with coffee, I have not done that in many months and really don’t need it to get started. So coffee is my breakfast, I guess.
Down we go, everyone! Ten more days in Outstanding October!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Gday, your weather is like ours was a week or two ago. Now it’s only on the mid to high 20’s during the day and around 10 to 15 at night. We went from summer to autumn almost overnight. So much better for sleeping.
A couple weeks ago when the second hurricane was heading toward Florida, spent at least 12 hours texting back and forth with my cousin who was down there in a house owned by her and her husband. They live in Wisconsin with very cold winters, so it’s a nice warm getaway during those months. She was down there by herself and had planned to leave 2 days prior to the hurricane but her flight was cancelled and she couldn’t get another one. When the hurricane got closer it looked like it could hit their house which is practically on the water. She decided to drive to her son’s house which is about 45miles inland. Luckily, it hit further north up by Tampa, bet we had some tense texts throughout the night. It seems like lots of bad weather this year.

Thin, you asked about our fresh produce in California. Since they grow so much here and in the valley it’s usually very good and in good supply. We export a lot of apples to the UK. We send produce and nuts all over the world. Almonds have become a very popular crop and I think we export a lot more than we use in California. But we also import a lot of produce. I have a bowl full of Envy apples from New Zealand sitting on the island bench right now. They are the best apples! We grow avocados in the state but also get a lot from Mexico. We import a lot of produce from Mexico and South America. It amazes me how much food is shipped around the world.

Cinque, I think you’re right about the fiber. It’s good for the gut but if you don’t eat enough regularly, especially beans, they can cause a lot of bloating. But it seems like within a week or two that settles down. High fiber foods make me feel full longer.

Quacka, I have never considered leaving the country for dental work, but if we were closer to Thailand I might at some point. From what thin has said the place she goes to is a top notch operation. Denytists are so expensive here too.

Neil, congrats on the continued weight loss. You’re back on a roll again. Did they get all the cleanup done from those rains a few weeks ago?

SuzyQ , I hope you get the problems sorted out with the IBS. I wonder if any fermented foods would help? Sauerkraut (if you like it) is easy to make at home, as is kefir if you can get some starter grains. It’s kind of like yogurt but faster to ferment and not nearly as fussy.

Well, time to get some sleep. Have a great day, everyone.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 21, London, UK, FD800

MIA again for the weekend, but I seem to have sooo much to do and the weekend is definitely not long enough these days!! The unpacking seems to be going backwards!😩

Sober October is going well @funshipfreddie, I’m doing that thing where I just keep repeating to myself, ‘1 day’, ‘1 week’, ‘1 month’ ………. baby steps, as there was a minor slip, so my ‘1 month’ will extend into November. The jaffa cake aversion may be all in my mind (it may be 20 yrs+ since I had one) as I hate any citrus desserts/sweets – Lemon meringue pie, chocolate orange, lemon posset………… all disgusting!😜 and I know the ‘jaffa’ in a jaffa cake is actually apricot!!! So definitely all in my mind!!! However, the sweet buttery crumbliness of a proper shortbread biccie is definitely my undoing, especially as like you I’ve wiped refined carbs, potatoes, pasta, rice and bread😭 from my diet!! Meat (protein) and 2 veg it is!!!💪🏼💪🏼

@merryapple, good to know you’re on the road to recovery, definitely take it easy, that precious left hand will get tired of carrying the ENTIRE load!!✋🏽

I only have 1 cup of coffee a day once I’m at work or when I crawl out of bed on the weekend, but it’s usually a double expresso with an additional 1.5 teaspoons of my favourite Costa Rican instant……….. so perhaps 3 cups worth of caffeine in one!!😁😁

@stitchincarol, that’s the perfect example of creating a bad habit/association without realising it. I used to put my mum to bed and tuck her in with the phone as my brother talked to her until she fell asleep then I would creep in and take the phone, but whilst he was soothing her to sleep I would sit on my bed and ‘unwind’ with a glass of wine!!! Ridiculous habit, but some evenings were ‘trying’ and I felt it was deserved …………….. then it became routine even when the evenings weren’t trying!!! Stupid!😠

Back to work, the workload has NOT diminished!!!

    Stay strong beautiful people!🙏🏼💪🏼🙏🏼

    Day 21 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.0 kg

A very gloomy Monday morning here, pretty much for the entire east coast. Two whole days of rain predicted ☔️

@merryapple – so good to hear you’re okay, & still getting out & about. I’m sure you looked fab at the Awards Night. And there’s a lot to be said for simplicity. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” ~ Leonardo da Vinci. Talk about silver linings eh? 👏 🎯

@northgeorgia – peanut butter & honey?! 😳 I’ve never heard of that combo before. And I hope I never do again 😂 “How do you all stop the late night cravings?” You said it yourself when you described them as ‘junk cravings’. People don’t have cravings for REAL food. And you don’t crave what you don’t eat. I guess that’s what’s meant by, ‘The sugar you eat today is the sugar you crave tomorrow’. If you tried to cut out those types of food for a few weeks you’d be amazed at the difference it makes to how you feel & look, your energy levels, everything. It’s the same with alcohol too. Someone who’s never had a drink will ever have the thought, “I could murder a drink’ after a tough day at work.

@penz – “isn’t it also soooo frustrating and unfair that men seem to lose weight so much more easily than us women?!?” Um, no…? 🤣

@brightonbelle – I was the same with coffee when I was working. Not 20, but probably not far off 15. Now I think about it, it’s a miracle I ever got any sleep! 🥴️

    RESOLVE to today’s fasters 💪 🎯

    Day 21 NZ FD 68.5kg

Apologies for the radio silence… I lost a big post y’day because my log in timed out…
I was busy last week decamping Billy’s exhibition at the gallery. Then I went to the Arts Laureate Awards on Friday night. I wore an open metallic silver shirt (purchased in a Berlin op shop in the 1990s) over a black Merino tshirt with black jeans. Around my neck was a neon pink tie that Billy had made in 1965 which matched the neon pink Velcro straps on my hand… and of course my fav Church’s boots and hot pink lipstick… such fun!!
My world has slowed down as everything takes twice as long – slow cooking, slow eating, slow dishes, slow typing… I’m going to attempt vacuuming this afternoon. I have to be careful not to wear out my replacement left hand then I will really be in trouble.
I’m walking everywhere because of not driving. All up, the secret to my recent weight loss is simplicity – no baking, no fancy recipes and most things cooked together in one pot ie cooking fish , chicken or steak and letting it rest while I cook the vegetables in the same cast iron frying pan. It does sound a wee bit boring but it’s Spring here and we have lots of lovely fresh vegetables appearing in the markets.
I’m going to submit this before I get into site problems again.
Everyone looks to be doing so well as we wind up for the end of the month.

Day 20 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

I weighed 158.8 this morning, which is 1.4 down from last Sunday, giving me hope I actually have lost my pound for this week. I keep trying to pin down just what I’m doing differently that I’m finally enjoying success. I don’t know. I mention various things when I realize, but it’s the collective things–it’s doing NFDs well. For example, I stuck out yesterday’s OMAD, despite the real struggle I had mid-afternoon. So how come can I finally do that????? Truly, no idea. But I’m sure thrilled!

@lona72 I’m fascinated with this knowledge about caffeine suppressing appetite, and never having known this before. I’ll certainly incorporate it as I’m able. Is your corner of carpet dried out yet?

@penz The coffee may indeed be why you’re not interested in breakfast, but I still remember announcing to my mom in, perhaps, February of my senior year of high school that I simply didn’t want breakfast any more, and I didn’t start drinking coffee for several years after that, so perhaps you’re simply a natural ZBC gal.

@funshipfreddie You absolutely ARE amazing, for whatever reason you choose to list. And I will indeed check out “Caffeine Blues” before I commit too enthusiastically. The thing is, when I/we are out and about–such as at the conference we just attended–I often drink caffeinated coffee, because it’s simplest. The caffeine I CANNOT have, however, later than 3:30 in the afternoon? Iced tea. CANNOT or I’ll never fall asleep. Others have insisted iced tea’s caffeine is insignificant, but I’ve experienced the consequences often enough that I know differently. As to jittery from caffeine? Another symptom I’ve never experienced. So odd how different one body can be from another!

And holy cow, what an AWFUL dentist!

@excelsior12309 We too have a lovely day, but I’m only barely motivated to do needed garden work, and DH isn’t motivated at all, so I’m thinking knitting and football is the order of the day today. 🤷🏻‍♀️😁😉

@brightonbelle Wow. Just WOW. 15-20 cups per DAY????? LOL, it’s probably a very good thing you’re no longer working that job!

@northgeorgia Every single day, I plan out what I’ll eat and when. If I have a challenging time happening, I spend a good five to ten minutes being a cheerleader to myself about what I will and won’t eat, and assure myself I’m up to the challenge. One of the hardest things ever was how, in my mind, watching football was about drinking beer and eating chips and salsa. It wasn’t a problem, because I never watched football, but I’d seen enough guys watching football that I knew that was the routine. And then I started watching football, and learned to love it–and drank beer and ate chips and salsa, LOL! It took a LONG time to persuade myself a football game can be watched without ANYTHING passing my lips. So, when you know you’re going to hang out with your mom in front of a television show, or go to a restaurant, plan ahead. For restaurants, I always go online to look at the menu so I can talk myself into something healthy. As to hanging out with your mom, could you compromise with her, and agree to eat whatever she has for supper as long as she promises not to serve any food at all after some specified time? Would that give you the steel you needed to resist snacking?

    And food is indeed over-rated.

Okay, I have the first sleeve done, and the neck binding is about half knit, so perhaps I can get that finished today.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

@funshipfreddie, you appear to be the only one on today’s list, but we’re all cheering you on!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 20 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 237 lbs. Mom wanted us to go out for lunch today, so if that holds true, it’s a NFD. But I’m doing a ZBC just in case plans change, and I can quickly convert it into a FD. I was not so good yesterday — not terrible, but I caught myself watching TV with mom and wanting cookies, crackers, and ice cream — thankfully, I stopped myself before I got to the ice cream or chips. I did fix a peanut butter & honey sandwich, not ideal, but stopped the massive junk cravings. I’m thinking this has been one of the issues that messed up my weight late summer. How do you all stop the late night cravings? I know any snacking is bad, as it messes up insulin peaks and valleys. What do you do when they hit you suddenly?

    Food is so overrated.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good afternoon everyone.. Xxxx

Its been a very wet morning.. we got soaked walking. It looks brighter now so hopefully a dry afternoon and the storm has finished here.

Just had a sandwich .. not sure what to have this evening… maybe eggs chips and beans.

H H .. you are always busy if you are feeling tired best to try to get some rest..as if you pick up a cold etc its hard to shake off now with the temps lowering and so very damp.

Dave.. Poor Denise and a worry for you… A friend who worked for Drs told me years ago .. that those that shouted loudest got things done. If she is not getting sleep that will wear her down even more.

Sym…I feel for you…would a big magnifying glass help. When things go wrong or not feeling well it s harder when alone I find now.. Xx

Hopefully this storm will soon clear and. the sun will appear. .

Take care every one…Tomorrow is another day. Xx

    Day 20 UK NFD

As usual relaxed way too much over the weekend but aiming for super good week next week DH has a long weekend away so I’m aiming to end the month on a high

Well done on the spreadsheet @funshipfreddie 👏

Caffeine- I dread to think how much I used to consume when I was working , mainly just from a vending machine but 15 -20 cups a day I now just enjoy one first thing in the morning

Right see you on the list tomorrow

    Afternoon All…
Managed a dry walk the rain was late arriving…been raining since I got back…

I don’t feel to good with myself really.. struggling to read. I made some scones, Charlie’s veggies.. I don’t really know what to do.

    Hedgehog.,
Had you got your mum sorted out. Jacqui has printed off the POA it’s there when I can go through it.

    Dave..
Hope the rains stopped for you. Poor Denise she is in a bad way I feel for her…

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good afternoon everyone is been pouring down all day so kept putting off Chloe’s walk, had to go in the end and fortunately it stopped raining😂.Chloe is actually in her bed at the moment she’s usually by my side on the sofa. I’ve been struggling lately, fed up of dieting but still doing it. I think at Christmas this year I don’t buy any beer, just have the biggest dairy milk bar I can find😋. Denise still can hardly walk, she’s using a walking stick and holding on to anything she can just to get around. She is sleeping upright on the sofa every night because she can’t get up the stairs. Need to win the lottery and get a bungalow.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 20-No. VA USA-NFD
A lovely sunny fall day yesterday and one expected today. So time for some garden activities.
@iona72, your dinner and wine sounds wonderful. I am trying to limit wine for this month…but it is tempting.
@stichincarol, I have always been a regular coffee drinker. It might suppress appetite, not that much in my case. It does not tend to keep me up at night, but I rarely drink it in the evening. I suppose I could be addicted to it, though I haven’t held up any convenience stores for a cup of coffee when I run out in the morning…but I almost never run out, so maybe that means I am always keeping a stash ready. Hmm…

@funshipfreddie, I agree that managing the bread, pasta, potatoes, and of course sweets has been the biggest help for me in managing my weight. I didn’t think I could do without (or with drastically less), but that part has been pretty easy, actually. But I also cannot start, for example, to eat snack crackers, or a “cascade of consumption” will follow!!!

@penz, I agree that it has always been aggravating that if men put their mind to it, they seem to drop weight faster than women. Not true for everyone, of course, but quite often.
    Have a good day, all!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 20 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

    I think I just fixed the spreadsheet. I’m amazing 🤓 😅

    @merryapple – hope you’re okay. You’re killing it this month! 🤯 💪

@stitchincarol – caffeine?! I’ve done the opposite of embracing it for the last few months. I don’t think I feel any hungrier either. I have one regular coffee first thing, then switch to decaff or rooibos tea. I think people underestimate how addictive it is. It is a drug, after all, despite being legal & ubiquitous. You say you haven’t used it for years, so why not switch back. But caffeine sensitivity increases as we age, so you might finish up feeling really jittery & have sleep problems. Some people do say they have trouble sleeping after a FD, & I wonder if that’s one of the reasons why – more tea/coffee yet less food? But anyway, try it, we’re all different. But maybe read ‘Caffeine Blues’ first, by Stephen Cherniske – ‘Wake up to the hidden dangers of America’s #1 drug’. One thing that’s decreased my hunger in general is virtually eliminating carb-dense food like bread, pasta, potato & most fruit. Caffeine is overrated 😜

@excelsior12309 – my childhood dentist was a monster, he should never have been allowed near kids. Once while he was giving me a filling he actually said to me, “move your tongue or I’ll put a hole through it” 😱 So I just started cancelling the appointments that my mum made. I didn’t see a dentist again until I was in my early 20’s.

@penz – Boo Boo already has plenty of real birds to stalk, don’t give her ideas! 😅 But, yes, the owl is stunning. I’ve got to have a go at making one of those.

    Happy S🌞nday!

    Pocket list – Day 20 🥚

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Thin I loved series 1 & 2 of Colin From Accounts. I’ve just finished watching Victoria series 1 & 2 about Queen Victoria and really enjoyed it, Jemma Coleman played à fantastic role but was disappointed to find the pay channel doesn’t have series 3. It appears to be only on Apple TV so I’ll look into to whether they offer a free trial subscription so I can watch the last series.

Also for Thin, yes I do cold showers. I have a 30 minute sauna most days and have a quick cold shower straight after. Not so easy is winter but easy in the warmer months. I do about 2 mins.

Yes still feels weird that MM is no longer with us. I follow Clare on Instagram and she is back posting regularly again. I watched an interview with her the other day, I think it was with the BBC and she is looking absolutely amazing, wouldn’t guess she was in her mid 60s that’s for sure, looking so much younger.

Had a short 24 hour fast on Friday and planning for a 48 plus hour fast early this week. Have been asked out to lunch this coming Friday to a cafe where the choice of healthy food is very, very limited- the best I can hope for is a soup, just about everything else on the menu is deep fried or options such as pancakes or waffles.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 20, NFD, Aus

I do like the look of the mosaic owl, @funshipfreddie. Will Boo-Boo enjoy having a bird like that to stalk?

I was just saying something similar to OH, @brightonbelle. While I’ve only been on leave since (“only”!!) I still love the anticipatory feel of a Friday night. And I realised today, I save all my chores for the working week, even though, really, there’s no reason I could not do them on the weekend. I have to keep track of which day of the week it is, @flourbaby, if only to make sure I obey the 40 kph speed zone past schools on a school day!

That sounds terrible, @missybear. Were they able to relocate your pension funds? PLUS interest??

Wow, re your friend @michelinme. But, even though it’s admirable, isn’t also soooo frustrating and unfair that men seem to lose weight so much more easily than us women?!?

Ooh I love articles like that. @stitchincarol – the ones that tell me what I want to hear. Coffee!!!  Seriously, I wonder if that’s why I never feel like breakfast; because I have coffee instead?
