  • Hi there 🙂

I’ve been doing the Fast Diet for a little while now and so far shifted half a stone.. I have found that I work best on having 2 smaller meals at around 250 calories each, one at Lunch and one at dinner.. It can take a fair bit of prepping to do all this, so just wondered what the thoughts were on having perhaps 1 mug shot for lunch and cook something else for later in the evening.. Mug shots are cheap, around 200ish calories and takes a bit of hassle out of preparing food..
    Would this be ok?!

    Thanks!

@bidaleska – Micheal Mosley states in his book that splitting your food into as many meals as you need through out the day is ok. Plus, you can eat what ever you like, even on fast days as long as it is within the calorie limit.

You can’t eat anything you want, the calories must come from low GI food on fasting days. So no bananas, no high sugar content fruit (pineapples, mangoes, melon etc.
Although pasta is a low GI food, im sure Michael recommends avoiding it on fasting days.
Also there is Dried Glucose Syrup in Mug Shots (some flavours more than others),which is a food to be avoided on fasting days as this raises the insulin levels in the body and makes us feel more hungry.
I would say it is one to be avoided. Stick with porridge or boiled eggs and veggies for earlier in the day; or one of the breakfast recipes recommended in the book.
Incidentally, I stuck rigidly to Michael’s 5:2 recommendations and lost a stubborn 12 pounds. By continuing to fast I have maintained my target weight and do at least one day a week. If my weight is creeping then its back to the 2 days.

OTTAS, where did you get the information regarding what you can or can’t eat on FDs?

The book advises choosing foods with a low GI and some protein in order to keep you feeling fuller longer.

It does not matter what you eat on a FD if it is within the calorie limit but I agree that fasting is certainly easier if sensible choices are made.
