  • Fresh pasta is not cooked so I guess it would spike in the same way as dried.
Re-heated is the way I eat half of my meals so I’m very happy.

Good morning fellow fasters πŸ™‚ I hope today will be a bit warmer than yesterday. It’s still too early to see if it’s going to be cloud free (still pitch black outside as I am up a little early this morning – 5 am) my weather app has just popped up and says it should be a sunny 28 today but with coastal wind warning for SA waters.

I can celebrate once again … exactly 1 kg more gone!!!! So that’s another 2 lb and 2 cm down the gurgler πŸ˜†

Total loss so far over the past 5 weeks is …. 7.6 kg and 22 cm gone! I was going to say over the past 6 weeks but I checked and it is only 5 weeks which is even more amazing especially as I was a little over on my FD yesterday (but only by a matter of 10 or 20 cals). So another 2.4 kg before I hit my first mini goal.

Think I will do a FD Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday next week to see if I can lose a little more next week as my second mini goal will be to get under 100 kg. I then have 5 kg mini goals after that until I reach my main goal. I also am starting to look at exercise goals (again I need to be careful due to joint issues but want to start strengthening them so that I can then do more).

Sounds like you’re all going to have a fab time in York, wishing you all a fantastic time πŸ˜€ … Maybe those of us in SA can get together at some stage if you’d like … I know it gets hectic this time of year (and I’ve got a few things booked up already) but maybe somewhere reasonably central.

I’m seeing mention of a FB page, does anyone have details or do we want to start a private group in there where only we see what’s written and entry is by invitation through members? If the latter does anyone know how to do this?

Emel glad to hear your energy kicked in … it does take a little while but it’s wonderful once it starts πŸ˜€

I’ll try to get back online before going to work but if I don’t I’m saying G’day to you all πŸ˜€

    Hello Fastrackers Jojo and Yorkies

It’s a horrible gloomy night tonight and it’s been a fast day. All I wanted was warm comfort food, but tried very hard to limit myself to Bovril for lunch with half a slice of dry toast, and a low cal casserole for supper. I made it in a Wales last night, froze half and brought had other half home. It was from the 5.2 Woman recipe app. Very good, with chard and a little bit of mashed potato, which has taken me just over the 500 cals, but hopefully with all the walking we have done no real damage.

Well done Nicky on the loss – and Jojo. every little helps and it’s amazing how it all adds up. I’m sure you will get to that goal, you’re such a determined lady. Nicky – 1cm from the waist is fantastic. I haven’t seen the Chanel advert but will follow the link when I’ve finished this.

Jojo and Amazon, size 14s! Great stuff! Well done both.

Amazon you’re so right about the damage that time spent in front of the tv and computers is doing to the young. I do worry about the kind of adults that the younger generation is creating. Not only unhealthy and obese but also lacking in social skills because of the insular lives they lead. And just don’t get me started on their command of the English language! I’m sure there are also many responsible parents out there who recognise this and are consciously taking steps to avoid it, but sadly I know of far too many who aren’t. I’m sorry you won’t be joining us on the York trip but do envy you your Cuban holiday! I had a holiday in Marguarita , which is off the coast of Venezuela, some years ago. Not the prettiest of Caribbean Islands, but it was a great holiday. I’m sure you will have a lovely time – and who knows who you might meet….!

You too Weeman, but hopefully a trip to Scotland in the Spring could be on the cards for a few more of us. Great that your weight loss has been noticed – what a great boost to the ego.

Hermaj – hope you get fixed up with your accommodation. I think I must have got the very last single en-suite room in York for that weekend! I think I did well compared with some of the prices – Β£50 a night!

I’ve booked for Friday and Saturday nights. Jojo, if you’re not able to get to York until Sunday, that’s fine by me. I’m quite happy to potter around on my own, although if anyone else is around on the Saturday, that would be great too.

Emel – well done for persevering. You will soon get into it and see some good results.

Ply – I’m with you in that it is hard to keep up the momentum once you have lost enough weight to get into the clothes you haven’t worn for along time and feel so good. I have to say I’m finding it quite difficult to think beyond to the next size down. It’s a kind of barrier that we have to get through. I’m going to follow Amazon’s example and find a pair of size 14s as my next goal. Also I would like to get to my next half stone down by the time I meet up with the others in York, so trying to stay focused.

Linds – stick at it! And don’t worry about the body-con dress making you look like mutton. If my 88 year old mother can buy one, and look good in it, so can you! Having borrowed it last week and got lots of lovely compliments, I’m definitely going to get one, and I’m four years older than you.

Well. I’ve prattled on long enough. Hi to those I haven’t got around to mentioning. Keep up the good work. Have a good evening, and a good morning to all on the other side of the world. Off to look at the Chanel advert.

    Smiffy x

AO, well done. Keep up the good work πŸ™‚

Smiffy, the trip to Cuba is a tour from one end of the island to the other, and it includes a night staying in a family home and having dinner with them. If that doesn’t help my Spanish nothing will!
I haven’t spoken to anyone who has been to Cuba who has anything other than good things to say about it, which is very encouraging.
Venezuela was fascinating and it included travelling by river in a motorised dug-out to Angel Falls. We slept in hammocks overnight and walked to the Falls the next morning. There were also a few legs of the journey where we travelled in light aircraft, and during one of the journeys we watched a terrific display of lightning and thunderclouds tipping what appeared to be sheets of water down to earth!
Costa Rica was memorable for travelling in the back of a 4WD with two boa constrictors on my lap, a horse ride on the side of a volcano and spending a day white water rafting. There was also a tremendous amount of rain on a couple of occasions turning dirt roads into rivers πŸ˜†

    Ooo yes Kiwi!
How about the Cook Islands? πŸ˜‰
    Forget about freezing in York.

Amazon, your St American trip sounds great. My daughter is there currently. I’m sure she will have a terrific experience too.

Well done Jojo, Nicky, AO and Wee (and others) for your continued success.
    Cheers all. P

Hi Aussie oma congratulations on results. I will investigate the fb suggestion. I have only ever joined groups so not sure how one initiates a group. I would imagine it is a case of select group name it and then either send invites ,but you would have to have face book names and so on. Perhaps I will do that tonight as have a busy day at work.
A fast day for me today. I start the day with a slice of low fat cheese and then miso soup during the day and protein and veg for tea.i just have to learn to carefully monitor my non fast days better but this a process and at least despite rel slow results I feel like each day is just a new opportunity to learn to choose foods within a reasonable allowance.
Amazon your trip sounds wonderful and those catching up in York this weekend enjoy!

    P! ‘freezing in York’ ?!

You are not only upsidedown, you are a soft Southern Hemispherite!

It’s been positively tropical (mid teens) in the north of England today.

Best of luck Jojo. hope u do that

Hi Jip, thnx for ur post. it`s help me…

Yeah Happy. “Mid teens”? I’d call that positively balmy πŸ˜‰
Now…imagine lying on a beach in the Cook Islands. …. P

Ps Hope the York excursion is great, guys. P

    Yes PVE
The Cook Islands! When? We are in NZ until mid March. There’s always those lovely islands off the Queensland coast. I lived 800 km north of Cairns for a couple of years (Weipa), and when we could we visited Queensland islands.
The Cook Islands are very unproblematic, sea sun and ?
    Great Idea
What do the other Southerners think?
    XX KiwiWiwi

    Hi, Jojo
    it`s really useful

Best of luck SAMM for ur deal

Hmm, lying on a beach in the Cook Islands… I’d be the little wet sweaty pool in the sand… Urgh! What is that?! Just a Brit on holiday!

Queensland is probably easier Kiwi. Snorkeling with turtles off Green Island is fantastic. Although I have a holiday place on the mid north coast…available from Feb….P

    Congrats Jojo

Actually, Happy, spotting the British tourists is easy…sandals, white socks, shorts, daggy hats with chin straps and severe sunburn on the second day. And I’m just describing my English cousin! πŸ™

    KiwiWiwi

First of all, I do apologise. I had no intention of being offensive, colonialist, racist or dismissive. As a professional linguist I deserve the slapped wrist even more. I should have researched Pidjin English before making any comments. Thank you for putting me right.

I (wrongly) thought of Pidjin as the kind of patois that some populations in the South Pacific use just among themselves, rather as Jamaicans or Mauritians do. I use these examples as I have friends from both communities. Outside their community they speak standard English, or in the case of Mauritians standard French, although some, including our friend, are absolutely bilingual, speaking perfect English and French.

The point of the post was the heir to the throne prancing about dressed like a right wing dictator. Attempts at the language weren’t really relevant. After what you’ve told me, I now wonder which of his advisers suggested he address the residents of the host country in a form of language that is clearly unacceptable. S/he also deserves a slapped wrist.

    Ooh P,

Me to a tee, except you’ve forgotten the union Jack t-shirt…!

    Hi Hermaj
Sorry about coming back so strongly. A pidgin is indeed a communication language when two cultures meet. I believe both Swahili and Bahasa Indonesia were both Pidgins in the non-pejorative way. But PNG where I lived had a problem as there are 750 languages and in order to communicate they needed a lingua franca. In fact English could have been chosen, but they preferred Neo-Melanesian.
I am not a professional linguist like you, but fascinated by language and bilingualism since my first contacts with French 35 years ago.
    Thank you for replying.
Bonne Nuit de la France profonde.
    KiwiWiwi

    Hi Purple,

There are times when I’m glad to be small and dark, a well as savvy enough to use my one nasty experience of sunburn as a warning never to do it again, rather than look like the lobster-pink Brits in silly hats you describe.

I missed a bus and the next one wasn’t due for hours. So being frightfully English and polite I decided to walk beneath the Spanish midday sun to get to where I was supposed to be. How daft can you get? Bad experience but a good lesson.

You’ll spot the Aussies, as you’ll hear us first! Then you’ll witness us breaking all the rules! Ah, sweeping generalisations…gotta luv ’em. πŸ˜‰

Hermaj, being of Scottish stock myself, I have spent a lifetime being severly sunburnt. I wear hats even in winter and always walk on the shady side of the street (the reverse of the song) πŸ™‚ P

Hi KiwiWiwi. Where are you in La France profonde – I love that expression.

    Hi Tangatawiwi,

I am afraid I am no vegetarian expert, gave up fish and seafood one month ago, meat about six months ago. I simply found that my digestion is better without it and my weight loss efforts are more effective. I also do low carb and avoid processed food where possible, I do this because it helps me to lose weight and get healthy. Luckily I don’t have a sweet tooth. I stopped drinking alcohol last NY as a resolution and to aid my weight loss. It is a sad fact that I cannot exceed 1200 cals on feed days so this is now my norm and why I have had to radically change my eating habits.

You would think that with all these restrictions I would be unhappy and depressed, you would be wrong, I enjoy every minute. I get out and about daily and do many activities. I now control the demon habit of eating for pleasure. I do a full frontal mirror check daily and ask myself what I would like to improve. Current focus tummy so I do 4 sets of abs workouts each day.

The other very controversial thing I must add is that I lose more weight when I do less aerobic exercise, weird but true. I have now changed to walking, bowls, swimming and yoga( the exception is ballroom fitness weekly for an hour). My daily gym days have gone. I walking 15,000 steps daily which includes 4 flights of stairs. I cannot prove this but I believe aerobic exercise switches a trigger in my body that stops me from losing weight whereas less strenuous exercise doesn’t do that, I am sure there is a scientific reason. I do yoga twice per week to improve muscle strength. Maybe when I get to goal I will bring aerobic exercise back in to my life because actually ?I really enjoy it.

Ply, I am so sorry, don’t know what I was thinking. My son is probably going to San Francisco with his job next year, did I tell you? What have I done that both my kids are going so far away? I had better start saving real hard if I want to visit them. I wouldn’t mind a trip to a Pacific Island either!

Checking out places to eat now

Welcome BrisTon, please tell us something about your fasting progress?

Wow Amazon, what adventures you’ve had! The Cuban trip sounds great – look forward to hearing all about it afterwards x

    Hi Smiffy
I’ll be there on the Saturday. My train arrives at 10.41am

    Hi Fast trackers,

Yorkies, please enjoy your weekend get together. Will be there in spirit. πŸ˜†

Jojo, thanks for U Tube link to Chanel No 5 advert.

I’m taking a small moment to say that the white headed man (who is facing Gisele when she is shooting the advert in the studio) is Baz Luhrmann the director, who made Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and the previous “story” Chanel 5 advert with Nicole Kidman. His adverts (more like mini films) cost a small fortune, but are always noticed by discerning people. πŸ™‚

Nicky, Thanks for your support, and for clarification. It’s so easy to inadvertently do something that hurts, isn’t it?

All FT ers, please take my assurance that I would never knowingly insult or hurt. Only want to encourage everyone in their goals. I am very grateful for your support and encouragement. πŸ™‚

I am still dealing with the dread addictive response to sugar on non fast days. Find fast days easy, but because I am at goal, find non fast days harder. I continue to shrink, even though not changing weight.

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

Hi Amazon, I went to Cuba 20 years ago and loved it. I’m sure much will have changed. Have a great time. Will be really interested to hear how it goes. Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

‘I’m walking on sunshine’ (literally. ..the sun’s out again) for you.
    Happy weekend all. P

Hi Kiwi, The food sounds delicious. πŸ™‚ thanks for info on all the various languages of the region.

Hi Ply, I too find it very easy to eat all sorts of things (not always nutritious) now that I am at goal. I am staying on 5:2 to keep me at my goal weight. My size continues to change even if the weight stays the same. I believe that fasting is releasing stored fat from various cells. Lots of trips to loo courtesy of green tea. πŸ™‚ hehe.

    Cheers to all, Bay πŸ™‚

LOL, Rouge Trader! KC and I share a birthday!

    Hi bay!
Have you sampled the NATURAL sweetener stevia?

Though I’ve more fat to lose I’m also practicing eating normally for a week. To maintain my weight.

When I use stevia in my sweetened drinks , it gives me more calories to choose nutrition dense Vegtables.
I mean to say since I’m not getting any calories from my drinks, it’s like getting more food instead of empty calories with no nutrition value from soft drinks.

Yes, Bay, it is amazing to be able to mostly eat what I please and know I can stay, or quickly get back to where I want to be! I would like to get the last few pounds off. I want to be in the 120s!! I am pretty satisfied with how I look now, but I would like to look better naked!
I just joined a small group personal training course at my gym, so that should give me some incentive!

    Hi Samm
Out of curiosity I read the label on a Stevia pack yesterday. I wouldn’t ingest that. Isn’t it better to sweeten food with fruit? I personally try to avoid substitutes and stick with recognizably natural foods.
    Just a thought. πŸ™‚ P

Yes stevia is a natural food. Just very very sweet. It’s not a substitute.
But yes fruit is a very good source as well , but 30 times less sweet and higher In calories.

I like mix green tea, lemon, and stevia.

    Hi Ply
Last year, I went from 85 kg to 59 kg over 12 months. During the past 6 months, since then, I have continued fasting twice a week and eating mindfully on other days. My weight has crept really slowly down 2 more kilos. But, as with Bay, my shape continues to change. I am getting thinner and thinner everywhere but my tummy πŸ™ I’m not sure now if it’s fat or a huge fold of excess skin! Ghastly thought!
Like you, my ultimate goal would be 54kg (120 lbs) but it seems one just has to be patient. My early success was due to the large excess I was carrying. Now that I am closer to the size I was 40 years ago, it needs to take time for my body and brain to adjust, but I am happy with that.

We have made similar discoveries to Jojo (although we still drink wine): fresh home made, low carb, low meat, lots of taste, walking every day, two fasts a week.

    Cheers P

I guess I’m just not that much of a sweety Samm πŸ˜‰

I know it’s 2 years old, Samm, but this is quite a balancwd article about stevia: http://m.smh.com.au/lifestyle/diet-and-fitness/the-sweet-solution-20121210-2b4bv.html

    Hi RT

When you want to write a novel, write it in a note form on your own device. Then Cut and Paste your text into the posting box on the thread. I think it is the time lag taken to write a long post that means the Website drops the link to the Writer of the Post.

    Cheers, Bay πŸ™‚

    O, Purple, not a sweetie!! I don’t believe it πŸ˜† Bay

    Hi Fast trackers

Bay, thanks for your understanding. “please take my assurance that I would never knowingly insult or hurt. Only want to encourage everyone in their goals. I am very grateful for your support and encouragement.”

That sums me up too. While if pushed hard enough I can be as cutting as the next person, the thought that I have inadvertently hurt someone’s feelings causes me deep anguish, both for the pain caused and also for conveying the impression that I could be that mean without provocation.

RT, while in ‘grovel mode’ I also owe you an apology for omitting you from my list of South Australians the other day. Not intentional, just forgetful. Well done on your results.

Regarding long posts disappearing into the ether, I was stung quite often in the early stages but now occasionally copy my text, ‘just in case’. <Ctrl A> <Ctrl C> ‘selects All’ you have typed and then ‘Copies’ it. If things go awry it’s easy to go to the now empty box and type <Ctrl V> which then pastes the vanished text. No, I don’t know why paste=V. πŸ˜‰

Lovely sunny day here after a few cold grey ones. Spring is such a changeable season! Not a fast but holding to my resolve about meal time eating only. So far so good!

Keep up the good work all. Nicky

I have about the same amount of weight to lose as you do and would love to up my weekly loss average is low then you…
    lose 1 lb per week….

    Hi all

Just a quick question regarding body con dresses, of which I had never heard until mentioned here.

After googling, led to Australian site to see scantily clad very young females. They reminded me of Groucho Marx’s memorable quote ‘That’s a nice dress you’re almost wearing.” Are there other styles? Prices are certainly good.

    Cheers, Nicky.

Nicky thank you and Bay thank you I dont write too many novels but now I know how to do it I will be more accountable next time round rather than the profanity and the wtf happened here Now Nicky no grovelling required with soo much forum traffic around business is brisk and to be fair I havn’t got around to reading the past 4 pages of info updates moon walks soft shoe shuffles high fives back slaps and all round good bloody onya what a marvelous week for everyone and there is soo much love around and respect that it is a privilege and an honor to be here
The purpose of our lives is to be happy
    and we are…
    Peace
    RT

    Morning all.

I spent half of December, all of January and the beginning of February in WA and SA and did not once don white socks, a hat with a chin strap or get burnt πŸ˜‰ Having said that it was my 4th trip down under so I guess I’ve learnt. After almost burning the soles of my feet on the sand on Green Island, to getting burnt on my back after a five minute walk to Cairns post office, because I had missed a bit with the sunscreen, to sitting outside my Perth friends house in the shade at 8am for 15 minutes and getting a small burn on my arm where there was a crack in the verandah roof…………

I’ve seen so many examples of Brits on holiday trying DIY exfoliation by laying in the sun when they shouldn’t, it is scary :yikes:

We have blue sky and sunshine this morning, but I don’t think I need worry about sunburn.

RT, well done on your weight loss.

    Hi Hermaj

I live in the ArdΓ¨che dept about 150 km SW of Lyon. In fact not very far from where RL Stevenson started his “Travels with my Donkey”. We can see the source of the Loire River.
I am not sure how you can translate “de la France profonde” In NewZild it’s ” from the wapwaps”. Is that British English too?
    XX KiwiWiwi

    Good morning all

That’s great Lizzie – shall we meet up for lunch? Either I could meet you from the train and come to the hostel for you to drop off your stuff, or meet you somewhere a bit later. I don’t mind which, as I am staying quite near the station. Maybe Hermaj will also be able to join us. It’s all getting quite exciting, and we must decide how we will all recognise each other – apart, of course, from being the most glamorous, slim, young-looking ladies of mature years in York that weekend!

Rouge Trader – that’s great progress! Well done. Love KC’s song – very nostalgic.

PVE – I’ve got that irritating fold of skin too! Everything else is beginning to look ok, apart from the fact that it could all do with being hoisted up about 12 inches. I was a bit disappointed getting on the scales this morning for my weekly weigh-in and found I have stayed the same, especially after doing so much walking over the past few days. I’m trying not to get too despondent, but I know I have had worse weeks food wise and ended up with a loss. I’m putting it down to muscle! Hopefully a few careful days will set me back on the downward trend.

NickyF – body con dresses have a lovely hold-me-in elasticated lining, so they give you a really nice shape. Over here, Marks & Spencer do them, and believe it or not, my Mum’s dress was from Sainsburys! In case they don’t expand to that part of the World, it’s primarily a large food store chain, which also sell clothes. ‘Style Guru’ Gok Wan designs for them, but again, you may not have heard of him there. Anyway, rest assured they are not all as skimpy as you have seen. This one has three-quarter length sleeves, a high slash neck and is knee-length!

    Have a good day/night all

    Smiffy x

@PVE, Your success is legendary and inspirational! I like wine, too!
