  • It’s still raining here. The rain gauge looked half full when I popped out to get some herbs for tomorrow’s FD soup (beef shin will simmer all day today) but didn’t stop. Will report back later when the rain is supposed to ease. We are going to enjoy a high of 13 degrees!

I have a visitor coming to stay later this week, so must get to work on making the place presentable. It’s been nearly a year since you were here, Jo, to spur me in a similar way, but the windows won’t get washed this week.

If anyone has been watching the NZ Grand Designs programme, there is a brief update of how last year’s participants have fared:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/home-property/84212272/grand-designs-nz-where-are-they-now

Thanks Barata. It’s always good to follow up.
Jo, sitting is very stressful on backs…sttetching gently (glutes, spine, legs) releases the tension/pain. Lying down, standing up. Gently walking. Movement is necessary. Trouble is, back pain is so overwhelming. Hope you get relief soon. P

    Hi Jo,

As P says, keeping moving is the answer, and sitting is probably the worst position to adopt.

I’m sorry your back hurts, but the fact that you can get up and move around suggests it’s not terminal and isn’t in fact ‘agony’! I’m sure you’ll forgive me saying that. As someone who has compressed two discs, herniated disc material into the sciatic nerve root, had my back go into spasm while at work and woken up 12 hours later flat on my back in my own lounge (with no memory of how I got there) and on strong painkillers and diazepam, and then had 6 months off work, I do have some experience of what back agony is πŸ˜€

It sounds like you overdid with the exercise this week (you always say you’re an all or nothing girl). Take painkillers, keep moving, and hopefully you’ll be fine.

Purple Certainly a different house this morning I can report sadly there was a death in Sydney last night with a β€œMurder of Crows” simply outplayed everywhere and the Adelaide Football Club where weighed measured and we were found wanting The Swans way way to desperate 6 goals the margin and really after the first quarter we were never a hope it was hard to walk the track today with my bottom lip dragging on the ground πŸ˜‰

You’ll survive, and be crowing again soon (maybe next year?) RT
(By the way, we’ve had real crows cawing around us all morningπŸ™„πŸ™„)
    Have a good one, P

Commiserations RT, first the Hawks then the Crows – the Swans the only birds to survive the weekend. I am now barracking for the Doggies!! At least you can relax and enjoy the rest of the finals without the tension! Lovely word picture of your lip on the ground!
Thanks all for your lovely wishes, I am finding grannydom rather delightful. No Happy, I now have three children to worry about, though would not say I am ‘anxious’! This little one is a slow feeder, so a few jaundice issues to watch, but midwives seem to be on top of it with regular checks. I am standing well back and just enjoying watching the new little family find their feet. My job is meal delivery and cuddles!
Out for High Tea this afternoon for the next instalment – wedding next Sunday – I will be interested how I react to the overly fancy cakes I expect to see. Amazon I like your idea of a weekly bread treat. I have been trying to keep bread to weekends only, but I think a single sitting is a great idea. Some discipline but also enjoyment!
Barata thanks for the Grand Designs NZ link, read it all in bed this morning. A favourite show of mine. I think your kiwi host is just a lovely as Kevin.
Jo I do hope your back is improving…. we are slow learners aren’t we?

There is a new GD NZ showing from next week, so no doubt you will be able to enjoy it in the near future.

I’ve given up waiting for the rain to ease, have dashed out to the rain gauge and emptied 70mm! It’s a good day for catching up on administration, and roast lamb πŸ™‚

Don’t slip and trip on the lip, RT. LOL

    Morning/evening all,

Jo, you are going to have to slow down a bit regarding increasing your exercise regime. Introduce one class and do it for a couple of weeks before adding something else to enable your body to get used to it. I know you are no stranger to exercise but you’ve not been doing too much of the strenuous variety for a while so your body can’t cope with everything at once.
(Steps down and puts soap box away)
I really hope your back gets better soon.

What condition is your sofa in? If it is ancient or of the soft and squishy variety you need to replace it, add support to make it firmer or buy yourself a comfortable chair with decent support.
At the beginning of the year I put a board under the cushions of my sofa plus a non slip car seat booster cushion that I bought on line. I also invested in a Robin McKenzie back roll which has a strap so you can put it around your waist making it impossible to slump when sitting down. These things have all made a huge difference to my daily life and none of them were expensive.

I’ve had a good week although ADF hasn’t worked out due to social arrangements but I’m back to it for the coming week. The good news is that my non FDs have been going very well, I’ve made a concerted effort not to over eat and keep busy.

Nama, the bread issue has got to a point where I’ve stopped making it and am buying a mini baguette or equivalent at the weekend so that once it has gone I can’t get another slice out of the freezer!
Making the most delicious raspberry jam in the world didn’t help…….
I will make bread again but not until I’ve reached goal or found a way to control myself.

I’m fasting today, aiming for no food but if I need to eat I have the makings of a veggie stir fry.

Have a good one everybody 😜

BTW, the unfortunate Iranian athlete who died suffered a heart attack shortly after his crash and I guess that might have contributed to it. The Iranian team were gathered together in the Olympic village yesterday and given the news together after his family back in Iran had been informed.

    Amazon,

Good advice, as always! I very rarely sit on a soft chair. I’ve always preferred sitting on the floor and I still sit or lie on the floor now. I find I’m far more likely to fidget and move around, so the muscles keep moving, and if I’m lying down already well why not do some back exercises while I watch telly? When my back is sore I similarly attach the back roll to me so wherever I sit I’m reminded about my posture.

I finally caved in and breached a jar of piccalilli today. Now that is good. I might have to keep lying to OH and tell him it’s not ready yet, no still not ready, sorry I ate it all 😁

    Jo,

You’re quiet today. I hope you’re not trapped in your chair (or bed!), disabled by your back?

    Happy,

Once you’ve had a back problem it is rarely completely cured and it is always good to find little things that help minimise recurrences and help get over them when they occur. It was you who mentioned McKenzie, I’d not heard of him and the back roll has been a godsend. I’m thinking about taking the inflatable one on holiday.
I was fortunate that the new bedroom furniture came in boxes fortified with sheets of MDF which are now on both sofas and I gave a piece to my friend across the road for hers. It has made a huge difference.

My FD went west at lunchtime so it has been a normal eating day. I no longer soldier only to fail once I’ve recognised that I’m not in the mood as when I do I tend to over-eat.
My piccalilli is stashed away out of sight. I also have some other chutneys open that must be eaten first including the last of the 2013 tomato chutney made with my final tomato crop.

I have some chillies ripening on the windowsill. I have no idea what variety they are but they look hot to me which is perfect πŸ™‚

    Good evening All,
Not quiet, just busy. I was up with the larks walking the dogs on flat ground as my back was sore but much improved. I then went for a swim, turkish bath and jacuzzi.

My sofa is actually metaphorical, I have a really good armchair with firm and supporting seating. I never slouch and support my lower back. I also use a foot rest to take the pressure off my back.

The back strain is without doubt my fault, hands up, guilty as charged. The circuit class I attend is aimed at over 50’s so not too stressful. I think the damage was done at the kettlebell class even though I used the lightest 2 lb weight. I am determined to do one hour of aerobic exercise per day, this added to my moderate 30 min swim and 30 min dog walk I think it will do me good.

I will fit in three games of bowls per week, one dance class, one yoga class. Thank goodness I am retired and have time to do these things. Of course housework and gardening have to be done too.

Barata- like you I only do a deep clean when visitors are coming. Cleaning windows is a waste of time though, seagulls and salt inevitably ruin your hard work within a day.

Amazon- good to hear you are in control of non fast days.

    Nama- enjoy these special times.

RT- sorry your team lost I know how important your football is to you.

Happy-your experience of spinal problems sound horrific, it’s amazing that you are now active. Excuse my exaggerating my own aches and pains, no offence to any with serious injuries. I am however avoiding pain killers as much as possible these days, trying to rely on heat or freeze Patches.

This weeks food choices have been very disciplined, hopefully the scales will show a good result tomorrow. I am feeling good. No added sugar or carbs(apart from veg carbs) this week. I have eaten a lot more fruit than usual. My daughter is now considering joining a slimming club to help her focus, she still has a stone to lose.

Now it’s time to get on with some ironing.

Fasting tomorrow- happy fasting my friends and all power to your mojo.

    Hi Jo,

Glad to hear your back is improving. Try and take it a little easier this week maybe?! If your new exercise regime is going to be sustainable you’ll need to avoid serious injury!

Sorry for the strong post, I didn’t take offence btw, but I did think you might have been slightly exaggerating… πŸ™‚

I don’t like to take pain killers, but I do use an ibuleve gel if my back’s bad. It’s nice and warming, if nothing else!

I’m not fasting today, just being mindful. I did eat too much soda bread at the weekend. It hasn’t done any damage on the scales but it has given me bloating and stomach ache. Poor stupid greedy me πŸ™

    Happy fasting all.

    Hi Everyone!

Hope all is going well. I’ve been reading along and keeping up with everyone’s stories – I’ll just be posting when I have a minute to spare (or something noteworthy to tell!) πŸ™‚

I’ll be fasting tuesdays and thursdays from now on, this seems like an achievable plan to me. Originally I was thinking I might start with 4:3 approach, but I think that seemed a bit intimidating for me. So I’ll stick to the 5:2.

I’m off to do a boxing class this evening. I had a question for you all regarding your workouts – do you stick to your normal work out routine on your fasting days? Or should I take it a bit easier on these days? I guess I’ll see how I feel, but I thought I’d see what everyone else has found to work.

Amazon- Great work staying in control on your non-fast days. From what I can gather – that is critical! Happy – I hope that stomach clears up! Nothing worse! Nama – that family time sounds blissful! Everyone else – keep it up! We can do it!

    xx Faith

    Morning/evening all,

Faith, when we fast our bodies use our fat reserves as the primary source of energy so there shouldn’t be any difference in the way you feel after exercise once your body is used to fasting. I have to say that some days I struggle in the gym and it is usually the day after I’ve had too many carbs!

Cooler weather this week but still 18-21C forecast for this part of the world so nothing to complain about.

I’ve been to see my GP this morning and when I asked for a prescription for anti-malarial tablets he asked where I’m going and we got into a long conversation about how wonderful Myanmar is.

He is very impressed with my weight loss, my cholesterol level and my BP both of which are decreasing and I’m hoping that sometime in the next few months the medication can be reduced for one or both.
He said he lost 10kgs on 5:2 and then re-gained it all and was starting again today. I informed him that it is a WOL not a diet πŸ˜‰
I left the surgery feeling very pleased with myself.

I’m going out now to meet a friend and eat cake!

Have a good one everybody 😜

Well done Amazon! Enjoy your cake 🍰

    Good morning everyone,
Ok so fast day called off, woke up really hungry which I think was down to too little protein yesterday. So I had a couple of poached eggs and plan to have salad later tonight.
My back is much better today so I have been doing some planting. Not too heavy digging, ground perfect at the moment. Needed to get some order in the garden, looking messy. Really need a full day out there but not pushing it.
Faith- I do t find exercising on Fast Days any different but I have been fast Two years now.

Amazon- I know how the Doctor feels, depressing, at least he is back on board. We are fasting for life that’s for sure. I regain even when I do fast, those non fast days are vitally important too. But this week has been good, baby steps and target Christmas to regain lowest position. Then press on down. Enjoy your holiday, sounds amazing.

Happy- I love bread but like you it gives me bloat and discomfort, any type of bread. Not had any this week. Actually I have had some bread sticks which were OK. Not buying anymore though too addictive, back to nuts for treats.

I am concentrating on stretch and relax exercises this week and light chores.

Hoorah- 5 lb off recorded at slimming club tonight.

Fantastic Jo how rewarding for your efforts
    keep on keeping on
    RT

Excellent Jo. I hope you didn’t hurt your back jumping for joy πŸ™„πŸ™„P

    Thanks PVE and RT,

Really happy and determined to keep moving down. One lady at the club has lost 4.7 stones in 16 weeks, now that is amazing.

She must have been huge to start with. I hope she has changed her everyday practices to maintain the loss ☺
    That is 1.8kg a week.

    Hi PVE,
Yes she was 18 stones ( same as me several years ago) at her start and coping with a very difficult home life as a carer for her mentally and physically disabled daughter. She is a very sweet soul and working really hard to make a better life for herself and her child. I chatted to her at length last night. She got into a rut of being a couch potato mainly through exhaustion and lonliness, spending her evenings eating chocolate and drinking wine, watching TV. Sound familiar? Many of us have been there, although I preferred toast and gin and tonic. Most importantly she has stuck to ‘not’ eating ‘added sugar’, she hasn’t eaten it in 4 months, neither has she drunk any alcohol. She also suffered sugar withdrawal but is now coping well and getting the benefits of a lighter body. Her first week she lost 11 lbs, then 6, then 4 and since between 2-4 lbs. She limits herself to one slice of wholemeal bread per day too but otherwise is eating loads of fruit and veg, chicken and fish, no red meat(can’t afford it). She can’t get out to exercise as no support network so she walks on the spot doing an incredible 2 hours every evening on a mini trampet. Good idea because she is protecting her knee joints. I say ‘well done’ to her. She buys one new outfit per week from a charity shop as she knows she will be going through sizes quickly and has a very limited budget. It would be life changing for her if she makes Slimmer of the year, such a deserving lady.
There were several ladies their last night that had gained especially those returning from holidays or celebrating family events. Several are maintaining but the group lost over 5 stone last night. So I am feeling good about being in a positive environment. We are all asked to set a goal for weight loss for the next week, most people sensibly chose between 1/2 to 2 pounds. Obviously some are very slim, at target weight and maintaining, attending only to keep focussed, they attend free and contribute with recipe ideas and motivation. There are only two men in the group that stay for the lecture, many members just weigh in and leave.

The councillor cooks a sample meal each week, last night he had made us a mushroom and potato curry from their cookbook, it was delicious, I could have eaten the whole pot(luckily not allowed) really spicy and hot.

My back is fine now thanks, I even managed to play bowls yesterday. Today I am doing a stretch and relax class followed by yoga class and then a swim. Keeping active.

It sounds as if she’s taking control of her life, Jo. Good on her. 😊 P

Jo, wow, 5lbs. I don’t know what to say! That’s almost like the weight loss you expect in week 1 of a diet, not week xxx! It’s good that its motivating you, but it will be mostly water and not fat of course and realistically you can’t expect to lose anywhere near that week in week out.

You said you’ve revised your goal upwards I think? Have you got a date in sight for when you might reach it?

Happy, I am planning to get down to 11 stone rather than 10 stone by next summer then reassess.

I was pretty pleased with weight loss but am staggered by other slimmers success in the group. I have set a goal of 1.5 lbs for next weeks target. I still don’t approve of their up selling commercially produced health bars/ meals. They are anti fat but not anti sugar, madness. Their Curry recipe book sold out last night. Good ploy making a taster dish. The post weigh in session is dull but I can see how it gels the group and offers support and understanding. Some people there have got really tough family lives and problems. We have three ladies going through chemotherapy.

I have done a lot of swimming this last week too and plan to keep doing that. I did watch the Paralympics and Davis cup so quite slot of TV for me last week. I will miss it. Watching a box set of Cold Feet too, just s couple of episodes each evening.

    Hi everyone,

Dull, damp and dismal looking outside 😩
I’m fasting today and aiming for food free but feeling quite hungry so may have to eat a 400 calorie dinner. I’ll see how the afternoon goes.

I’ve spent the morning making marrow and ginger jam which probably hasn’t helped as it smells delicious and got my mouth watering. I had to do it today or the marrow would still be sitting there next week.

I was out all day yesterday as I visited a friend for coffee and had a slice of the cake I took with me. It’s a great way for me to have the joy and satisfaction of baking without the ensuing guilt when I’ve eaten the whole lot!

I wanted a bag for my holiday big enough to carry my camera, guide book, sun cream etc that isn’t a back pack and I found one on line on a specialist travel gear website. They have several branches in London so I got on the tube and visited the branch in Canary Wharf. They had the bag I had been looking at and I bought it. When I got to the till I found out it had been reduced from Β£25 to Β£10 πŸ™‚
I got it home and can get everything in it easily so it’ll be road tested in Myanmar.

It is going to be very hot and an over the shoulder bag is much cooler than a backpack, plus it can double up as a handbag for the evenings.

I had a wander round Canary Wharf which has a lot of shops and even more food outlets to sell lunch to the thousands of workers in the numerous office blocks. The queues at all of the takeaway outlets were huge and I noticed many of them closing up at 3.30 having fed the hungry hordes.

I indulged in a pizza and a glass of wine which I thoroughly enjoyed. No surprise that I’m hungry today after all those carbs but I stayed within my TDEE so I’m happy with that.

I did get 10000 steps in though πŸ™‚

Jo, that’s a good start and hopefully you’ll be able to keep on track with the weekly weigh ins.

Have a good one everybody 😎

    Amazon,
    Thanks
Seriously pizza! Sounds good. I am just done at the gym and heading home for Halloumi salad. I will look like a rabbit soon, so much veg.

A freshly made pizza in an Italian restaurant is the only kind I’ll eat these days unless I make it myself and it was very good. The chilli oil was HOT!!!

I’ve just eaten an omelette and veg stir fry. It was delicious and exactly what I needed. The fridge is now devoid of veg and salad so I’m planning my menu for the next week before I shop.

The marrow and ginger jam is a beautiful golden colour and will make a great gift. I’ve had to rearrange the cupboard to fit it in along with all the other preserves. If I get snowed in this winter I won’t starve πŸ˜‰

I’ve always eaten lots of veggies, it’s the other stuff I’ve cut down on πŸ™‚

This is a really interesting article regarding research into the benefits of eating turmeric

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-37408293

    Amazon,
Yes I knew about this study and do use it on grated cauliflower, makes it more interesting. I use it instead of rice with curry. I think I will try it on yogurt as I have that daily at the moment.
My son tried using it to whiten his teeth, he did cleaned his teeth with it for one week. No noticeable change. Supposed to cure gum disease too.

Amazon that is really interesting pal > I have only ever seen it in jars in the supermarket . Do you think it would do the same thing? Maybe worth a try xx

    Hi Wee,

What you’ve seen in the spice rack at the supermarket is what they are referring to. It would be easy to add a spoonful to many things without changing the flavour too much. Turmeric has a woody flavour and is quite subtle unless too much is used. You could easily add it to soups and stews or to mashed root veg. It is also an ingredient of piccalilli πŸ™‚
If you try it and find it palatable, go to an Indian shop and you’ll get a bagful for less than the price of a small jar.
Be careful with it though because if you get it on your clothes it doesn’t wash out.

Thanks pal . I will give it a go . It might help the RA too . I will let you know xxx

I keep fresh tumeric, as I do ginger, in a platic bag in the freezer, and grate it, frozen, directly onto the food. Don’t do it on a chopping board, unless you want a golden stain on it. 😐 P

    Morning Everyone,
Fast day today so keeping busy.
Sadly I am forced to get on with housework, vacuuming carpets and cleaning kitchen and bathroom. If I get that done I will be gardening for the later part of the afternoon. After talking about spices yesterday I swiched my planned Halloumi salad to a hot veggie curry and my stomach is feeling a bit ‘churned up’ this morning, too much fibre, it needs a well deserved rest.
Dog walk beckons and the weather is fine, have a great day Folks.
Wee- I planned on posting a list of ways to use tumeric but my Facebook is not working, been down a few days from my iPad. Not sure of the cause. Hopefully my son will fix it this weekend.

Putting wood-stain on the new shed . Just popped in to read the posts . Jojo that will be brilliant . looking forward to that xx

    Evening All,
Fasting went well on a very busy day. Feeling amazing, really supple. Walking, Yoga and swimming really working wonders. Can’t say the gardening or housework was comfortable though, still a few back twinges.
Time for bake off just to wet the appetite. Enjoy your evening.

Happy Thursday fast day people I hope all the fasters around the world have a great fast day

    Hello My Friends,
I miss being more present and Fasting with you Guys! .
This vacation has been a success. I am absolutely in love with Montana. The nature there is breath taking. The woods, the lakes, the air the people …I only have nice things to say.
We crossed the border over to Canada to visit friends in British Columbia and was also something. They had horses, rabbits, chicken, cats, veggie garden and the most beautiful view overlooking the Canadian Rockies.
Right now we are in Idaho heading back home out of Salt Lake City Friday night.
I haven’t eaten healthy or watching much but also not overeating. Mostly enjoying the present and the opportunity of being so close to nature.
Jo I bet it feels good to be motivated again! Congratulations and keep going.
Amazon I always have problems organizing my stuff when I travel in one bag. You found a good bargain.
I haven’t read the turmeric article. I always bring mine from home. I use quite a lot. My husband’s favorite is yellow spaghetti. Otherwise it goes in my soups, veggies, rice, chicken. etc.
RT as I just turned the TV on there’s another protest in US. My wish was that mosquito would land on their testicules.
Konbucha is my next project! Bringing the starter with me given by our friends. I love that drink.
    I miss my vitual Friends.
    ❀️❀️❀️

    HCB,
As you see I am awake in the middle of the night, just not tired so having a read and catching up on emails. Your trip sounds amazing. I plan to do some extensive travel in America and especially Canada in the next couple of years. So many places to see in the world. I find it very hard to fast when on holiday but I usually order sensibly in restaurants. I often have a few too many latte’s which I love. I have a bowling holiday in this country soon. The resort is known for its excellent food and I already fear a gain. It will be a very active trip, often playing two games of bowls per day and access to other sports so hopefully I won’t have too much time to eat.
Not fasting again until Friday. We are having scones at our away game tomorrow, I will have one as it’s the only food on offer, but no jam or cream for me, just butter.

    Morning all,

I’ve still got my cold, day 11!! Not happy about this, and having to face the fact that I’m not fit and healthy, I’m sickly and consumptive… πŸ™

I’m tentatively saying that I’m not fasting this week…my weight is stable. We’ve got a sociable long weekend coming up soon though so I’ll definitely need to go into that a bit lighter!

    Amazon,

Are you all set for your trip now?

Clearly not happy, poor Happy. Time for a handle change? How about Slim or Skinny? P

And I was so very happy when I chose that name!

Not sure I want to reinvent myself just yet…Another few years til I’m fully ‘CantankerousOldWitch’… πŸ™‚

Just sitting listening to the mice behind the dry lining… Summer’s definitely over when the rodents move back in…

    Morning Happy,
Sorry you still feel ill, colds are not much fun. They really disturb your sleep at night too, either coughing or blocked nose, miserable. Bright side- you may have increased your resistance to that particular germ? Take care of yourself- lots of chicken soup. Really hope you shake those germs off soon so you can enjoy you social events.

Good news- Another pound off today (6lbs in 8 days) and I am feeling fantastic, I truely feel Amazonian at the moment, my fasts are ‘easy’ and ‘most’ of my exercise routines beneficial. Even winning all my bowls games, happy days. I believe my success and euphoria are down to finally kicking ‘added sugar’ and ‘complex carbs’.
It has been a long battle and wouldn’t suit everyone, many would find it too restrictive, but I have to say my body is appreciative. Sweet tooth urges are gone(rare though they were anyway)preferring savoury and no more bloated stomach or gripes. Although I am having to learn control over the amount of fibre per day. Making decisions and sticking with them are not my strong point but finally I feel I can beat obesity. Roll on tomorrow’s fast. I am also glad I decided to join the slimming club it was the impetus I needed, I am very competitive so it works in my favour, I do have to ignore most of what they recommend, just use the weekly weigh in and more importantly some new easy recipes. Hopefully I will make some new friends there too.
Have a good day everyone, keep drinking

    Morning/evening all,

Happy, you poor thing. It is high time your cold turned up it’s toes, fingers crossed that it is imminent.

I would love to get to the point where I don’t need to fast but I can’t imagine that happening. I don’t have a problem with doing 5:2 forever though.

I don’t go away until 8th but I am organised which is necessary for my piece of mind. I don’t like last minute rushing around as I invariably forget something important. All I need now are some $$$$$$. The all important what to pack list has been written, so I can get on with day to day stuff now.

I got through another non FD yesterday without going over TDEE which at present is more pleasing than nailing a fast!

FD today and I need to go food shopping as the fridge is almost empty and I won’t have time tomorrow so I need to go before I start to feel hungry or it’ll be torture….

HCB, welcome back, good to hear that you had a nice time and I hope the transition back into fasting goes well.

It’s another fine morning with warm weather forecast β˜€

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Good morning!
Happy I am so sorry to hear you are still going through your cold. Get well soon.
Amazon I am not back until Saturday!! Fast will be Tuesday.
Jo I never heard about a “slimming club here”
We are still on the hotel! The weather looks very bad. We need to go over a mountain pass. Decisions, decisions

    Peace RT

    RT,
You do know I am of Irish stock and a blonde woman which makes me the butt of all your jokes. I think some Aussie male jokes may be appropriate for next week, I will do some research. No offence taken, don’t panic. I particularly liked the ‘Paddy Long Legs’ one. It’s good of you to always try to cheer us up on Fridays.

Just been watching Michaels TV show about the Cancer fighting effects of turmeric. Seems we would do well to add a teaspoon of the powder to our food daily. We had another programme on tonight about drug free health care. Surprize, surprize drugs have side effects and may not help as much as exercise in some treatments. Regular exercise is more effective for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure levels not to mention pain relief from strengthening muscles. The emphasis for patients progress is supporting them through the changes they are making to lead healthier lives e.g. Walking groups, exercise classes. What with daily dog walking, swimming, bowls and gym classes I am averaging 20 hours exercise per week so I am pretty sure I qualify as leading an active life.

First day back at Rock Choir today, 40 new members turned up. It was great to be singing again.

HCB- I am certain you have slimming clubs locally, Google it or ask at your Doctors surgery. Sadly there are no 5:2 groups that I know of unless it’s a cyber thread like us.

Having been told that we were being offered cream tea today at our away game I was delighted to discover a sandwich option available. It was white bread and tinned salmon but healthier from my point of view. I also resisted the mountain of cakes in favour of an apple I had taken with me πŸ‘Ό. Interestingly I noted that two other ladies on Weight Watchers programme and a recent heart operation chap both ate 2 cakes each. I wonder if they would have chosen fruit had it been available!

I have another half a pound to lose before Monday, I feel confident that I can do it, maybe even more.

Keep fasting, keep walking and keep drinking water and get to your personal goal.

Yay, Jojo, what great results! There will be less of you when you get to this part of the world at the end of the year.

Happy birthday, P. Let the sun shine on your special day. xx

Wow, RT. Don’t forget my grandmother was from Ireland, so plenty to relate to there. If you search for Liam Malone you will find an inspirational teenager who achieved wonderful things at the ParaOlympics (and knocked Oscar Pestorius off his record-breaking perch!) He won two gold medals for NZ. πŸ™‚

It sounds like a great trip, HCB. We were in Utah twenty (gulp! where does the time go?) years ago when OH had a contract in Salt Lake City that was supposed to be for six weeks and ended up being for six months, with a job offer at the end. So I got two visiting-rights trips to the US πŸ™‚

Speaking of OH, he’s hit another PB this morning – tiny incremental steps, but progress.

Get well, Happy. That cold is hanging around far too long for a fit faster like you.

Have a great Friday, all. πŸ™‚
