  • Oh Slim, wouldn’t it be fabulous if something changed with your gun laws! Lets hope the sensible people can finally get something done.

Healthcoach my coleslaw sounds similar to yours – finely shredded cabbage, carrot, celery, red capsicum, and onion. Plus a finely sliced apple, some chopped nuts (usually almonds) and some sultanas. I use a bought dressing but after the coleslaw has been made a few days, it only needs a tiny amount. I make enough for about 5 days and it keeps really well in a sealed container. This will do me for a meal, with some olives, cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber and some feta cheese on top. I have been eating it most days for about a year and still love it, keep thinking I will get tired of it but not yet! Fiddly to make a big batch, but then a real ‘fast food’ once its done!

Let’s hope sanity prevails and the US introduce sensible gun controls, like we did 20 years ago! No mass shooting and a significant drop in all gun deaths since. P

    Morning/evening all,

The monsoon has arrived complete with 90 minutes of thunder and lightning that started at 2am 😮
It is looking very bright outside so I’m hoping fora window of dry weather for my journey to the gym and of course it’s referendum day so I need to vote.

FD successful yesterday and I feel much better today.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Well done on the fast Amazon. You’ll be back in the swing well and truely. We are almost at the end of Thursday fast. This one was easy…no accounting!
Lots of politics around…your EU vote, our Federal Election next week. Big decisions for the future.
Hope your weather settles. We have snow predicted on the alps, so the temp is plummeting ☺ P

    Hi Purple,

I knew that once I got through a couple of FDs I would be OK but with the benefit of hindsight aiming for B2B after 9 days of not over eating but indulging in cream teas etc wasn’t a very smart decision 😆

When I was feeling horrible yesterday I realised that I used to feel like that most days and think it was normal……

The forecast from tomorrow and for next week is excellent 🌞🌞🌞

That’s why I still do Mon and Thurs fasts most weeks, despite being at goal for over 2 years. I have no trouble with overeating on the other days as the fast resets my appetite and gastronomic desires ☺
In the old days, I used to get stomach aches if I ate after more than 4 hours without food. Now I know, the problem is carbs. It is never a good idea to eat a large carby meal (eg a hamburger or roast dinner) after a fast. The stomach recoils back in horror. If only we listened to our bodies. P

Good morning everyone . sun is shining at the moment but sky is beginning to get black . I have a washing on and was hoping to get it out on the line .
Jim is getting stronger every day and the nurse is due any time to check the wee leak on his stitches . It is marvellous when you think that 2 weeks today at this minute he was being taken into the operating theatre. I can never thank that surgeon enough.
I think most of you know we live in Scotland and I have NEVER even seen a real gun and hope I never do .
It is voting here today too . Jim isn’t fit o go vote but I will . Then up o the PO to post a parcel.
I have never really banned any foods since starting 5.2 really . I choose not to eat potatoes or pasta now because I feel really uncomfortable now after I do . I loved bread in any shape or form but I didn’t like the feeling after I ate that last time either . I don’t every really feel like snacking now . Cake or biscuits or sweets don’t tempt me . This is just so hard to believe as in the past at Christmas I could work my way through a family size tin of chocolates . I never really have thought about all of for a while . .
I am no saint lol as put some ice cream in front of me 😛 😛 that is another story .
If I fancy something I have a wee bit and work it into my day but to be honest that doesn’t happen very often. I still do my fast day but I don’t plan in advance . I wait to see how I feel in the morning .

5.2 is the best best best thing I have ever done .
I love feeling the way I do now and I NEVER want to put that 6 stone back on . I couldn’t have done it without the help of all of you lovely people .
I am going to take the chance to hang my washing out . Amazon please don’t send the thunder 🙂 :).

    Wee xx

I hope you all have a lovely day xxxx

Good luck getting the washing dry, Wee. It is getting so cold here, I can’t tell if ours is dry or wet when I bring it in at 3pm.
It IS fascinating how 5:2 somehow changes our desire for food, isn’t it? I often have relatives trying to force us to eat food and when we say “no” they think we are depriving ourselves. We aren’t. The food simply doesn’t appeal. ☺ There is plenty of yummy, healthy food we do eat. We don’t need to eat just to please others.
Thank goodness for the skill of Jim’s surgeons and the love of his dear wife. ☺ P

Good morning VPE . I agree pal . I think too that we just choose better and don’t want to spoil our “allowance” ( for want of a better word) on silly empty calories . When I do have ice cream I have it on what I call an eating day . I am lucky that our family are brilliant with me being on 5.2 . Our youngest Granddaughter had us out about a month ago . she bought herself and Jim some chocolate then said . I know it was a day you don’t eat Nanny so I didn’t buy any for you ..Is that OK? . I am just not tempted by it. Last week we had chocolate digestives in the house because we had people visiting . I had a wee bite of one and then thought ” is this worth it as I am not really enjoying it ” put the rest of that one in the bin . The packet is still there . In the past I would have eaten the FULL packet then felt so guilty after.
I didn’t realized so many things food wise had changed until I started to think about it . 5.2 is really A WAY OF LIFE for me now xx

My experience too Wee. Is this really worth eating? No? Why eat it? Bin it! ☺☺

Hi Wee, glad to hear they are keeping a close eye on Jim to ensure herecovers properly.

I love cakes and desserts but am much more fussy than I used to be as I find many of them too sweet and sickly so I choose carefully. The cream teas I had were great as proper scones aren’t sweet and I only had a small amount of jam but all of the cream 😉 I ate a couple of desserts and had ice cream a few times and it was all very enjoyable but eating carbs every day which usually included potatoes or bread was too much. I didn’t realise it when I was eating them but I’ve paid for it this week so I’ll be having them even less often in future.

It is overcast but humid here and very warm. There’ll be more rain later which I hope will mean fresher air tomorrow.
I’m hoping the postman delivers the Wimbledon tickets todat as it is getting a bit close for comfort 😕

I struggled at the gym this morning as my body is still unhappy although much better than yesterday and the a/c wasn’t switched on until someone checked it after a complaint about the heat. I did half of what I usually do but I’ll settle for that and hope I’ll be able to do my full workout tomorrow.

Nearly time to break my fast 😎

    Good Mornibg,
Out skies today looks like it’s thinking about Europe. Cloudy but no rain yet.
Today it’s my 14th 5:2 Fast non stop since 5:9th. I am getting close to my goal for sure 💪
We have a couple coming tomorrow over for dinner and passion cheese cake will be de desses and the menu pretty much the same from last week. They can have left over dessert with them.
Isn’t that amazing 2 weeks went buy for the Wee Family. We are glad to hear nothing good news from you guys.
The World – well, well! I am on this country for 21 years and I have to say that Americans love their guns. I know people with vaults in their houses filled with hunting arsenal plus more.
My only real problem is that military style gun on the hands of civilians. Wrong, wrong, and wrong. We’ll see.
Let’s try to be optimistic with everything 🙏.
    💖

    Hello All,
I haven’t had Internet since Monday AM, sorry! Plus the I got rejected from the thread as it didn’t recognise my password. Curious.

I haven’t read back yet as I am having a very, very busy week. Fasts have gone out of the window as I haven’t been home. I am coping with friends and funerals so I may be off line awhile.

My voice has disappeared which is not helping me as I have choir rehearsal for our concert on Saturday, I am having to mime which seems ludicrous. Hey ho! No pain thankfully, just silence. I may need a hip flask on Saturday for choir performance, either that or just join the audience. Shame it’s our summer concert, over 250 Rock Choir men and women singing Saturday night at a great venue in Canterbury.

Played Scattergories and Bonanza last night at Games evening, great fun, luckily you can write down your answers. I had to get someone else to read them out.

Hope everyone is doing ok? Especially Wee and Jim.
    Be in touch next week.

So lovely to have my coffee and see so much chatting.

So nice to see that the world supports us having gun controls…perhaps our collective intentions will help. It is worth noting that while there are “gun collectors”, especially in states with crazy laws like “stand your ground” in Florida and strong traditions of independent statehood like Texas, that 90% of our people want these basic gun controls. So it is not the people. It is politicians who have been bought by big gun sale money. This was the reason for the House protest. They know what the people want.

We talk a lot about AUSTRALIA and how much these laws have saved lives and made for a safer feeling. But gun money keeps winning in congress despite logic.

My family are generations of Quaker like people. My grandfathers and great grandfathers never held a gun. They were all medics in the wars. We were not permitted to have toy guns, while always being taught to support our military being taken care of when they come home wounded or mentally impaired. So for me, as you can imagine, this is beyond crazy. My children look at me like human beings are aliens when they see how they play “kill” on the playground. But I believe, goodness and love will eventually prevail. 😪

Anyway, my heart is heavy, but hope is “hard to kill”. Thank you for listening. ❤️❤️

Now that I got that off my chest !!!!! ( and such a feeling could drive a gal to a thick piece of endorphin producing no fiber carb),

Nice to see you JoJo, we understand and we hold the space for your return. As for missing fasts, etc, you just focus on family and friends and fasting will be here when life settles a little. Sending vibes of peace and comfort. So very sorry to hear about your voice. I’ve had to mime a few performances myself…but being right in the middle of a beautiful choir singing may still lift your spirits, so don’t go to the audience! As my opera singer father once told me in a Puccini channeled accent, ” Mime with passion daughter”!

Wee. So glad to hear Jim is improving. I hope I get to your state of having chocolate in front of me and not having a taste for it. I’m afraid hormones are still possessing me at times… As in now.
Also, my last name is Scottish supposedly, Strickland, (my paternal grandfather got sent as far away as one can be sent to do paperwork when he refused to hold a gun) ..is that where our family tradition came from? I’ve often wondered. My husband’s last name was Doyle, but he took mine, so our children are Strickland’s too. I am curios if you ever see or hear our name there?

Nama n HealthCB, I shall make coleslaw! Sounds yummy. I will have to be sure it marinates in apple cider vinegar long enough to break down the goitrogens as I have a low thyroid, but if I make a big batch as Nama does, that should work….even if it is “fiddley” ….

Which brings me to acknowledge PVE that I wrongly put UK and Southern Hemisphere vernacular as one “speak” as it all sounds so prim and proper compared to US speak. I shall do a better job at desiphering who is speaking and what I’m picking up. 😊 Though when RT speaks it seems clear that heavy Oz talk completely loses me. Lol

    Have a good day!

SlimnHealrhy I walk on eggshells in regards to the gun debate here. You put it so nicely together the way you’ve said. This problem is polarized and mixed with the politicians and those two opportunists wanna be presidents. I never let myself get into this type of debate. All I want is peace for all of us 🙏
My first step doing my coleslaw it’s the dressing right there I add the apples. Will add walnuts next time …. My favorite.
Nowadays being without internet it’s a problem! We thought you kidnapped by aliens Jo. Thanks for stopping and saying hi. Sorry about your loss
Fast is great so far considering yesterday’s 2 slices of pizza and one glass of red wine I am not hungry at all. It’s the 17th hour without anything disturbing my insulin.
Give you more news later …. 9.500 steps just going to the forest with my girlfriend.
    💖💋

    HealthCB,
I understand about eggshells. I feel I can speak more freely here with UK, NZ,Oz, and a Brazilian American.

I also am realizing that it helps me eat and take care of myself better when I get to speak my heart.

Wow, don’t know what’s in me this week. Perhaps my husband being gone, just leaves too many thoughts to myself! I’ll try to temper the length of my posts! Though not making any promises. 😋

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Slimn. Thinking people need to stand up and be heard. There is far too much noise from the misinformed and lobby groups.
Next time, HealthC, have 2 glasses of wine and only one slice of pizza. Far healthier choice. After all, the former is fermented grapes, the latter, evil carbs. 😆
Good luck with the passionate miming, Jo. P

Good morning from a damp Melbourne.
Just to let you non football fans know, the Friday funnies from Adelaide will probably be late today (or even non existent) as RT’s team had a big game last night and were victorious against a top team – I imagine there was much celebrating and RT’s head might take a while to clear this morning!! Well done Adelaide, I am very happy for you RT! Your team are looking dangerous.

Slim & Healthcoach, its great that you can ‘vent’ on here, its unbelievable what is happening in the US with gun laws.

    Jojo take care of yourself.
And Weemam and Purple – another one in this corner who never believed her tastes could change so much. I can refuse chocolate very easily these days. A nice piece of home made cake – now that is another challenge altogether. But like Amazon, I have no intention of giving that up completely, just moderating it. Ditto bread and potatoes – but just having them occasionally means they taste even better!

Hello efficient fat burners from a very wintery wet 10 mils yesterday and bitterly cold (freezing) south East of South Australia Ah Nama you are so correct I did give a lot of advice to the telly and the score review procedure to be sure 😆 Yes I watched the crows last night kick their way into the club records with a masterly display of inaccurate kicking 😳 28 points and 12 goals 100 points a fighting win over the roo’s at home in the end by 33 going along nicely with a good run home. Nama I see the big Trav gets another game tonight against Fremantle I wish you both well.
300 pages of pure 5-2 forum gold is very special congratulations everyone good on you Jojo for articulating the the site. Have a Happy Day All.

After visiting our house my mother-in-law got ambushed by 6 men who starting punching her. My wife shouted “Are you gonna help?”, I said “6 should be enough!”
I’ve spent the last 3 years looking for my ex-wife’s killer… Still can’t find anyone to do it.

    Wife: “Windows frozen.”
Husband: “Pour some warm water over them.”
Wife: “Computer completely screwed up now.”
    Q. Why do they name hurricanes after women?
    A. Because when they arrive they are wet and wild but when they leave they take your house and car with them.

Have a happy Weekend all you beautiful losers 😆
    Peace RT

Btw Slimn, Oz was the place Dorothy visited. Aus is where we live. The two words are homophones. We speak “strine” (‘stralian pronounced quickly with a broad accent) 😊

G’day Nama. Hope you are feeling better. 😊

Ooo, RT! Having a tough time with wyfee? 😉😉 P

Got It P, Aus is not short for Austria, sounds like Oz.

well… I did laugh out loud at the woman not wanting to bother hubby at work to report her Orgasm. oh, and i do like being called an efficient fat burner. 🙂

Did I already say Im down another half pound, despite my wacky structured half day fasts all week! if i did, im saying it again! YeeeeeHaaaaw!!!

Put lentils in my kids oatmeal cookies i baked today to decrease glycemic index…all they said was yum!

    Nite all!

Finally in bed catching up on news and seeing that the Referandum is too close to call still.

No. No! Australia not Austria!!! (It’s in Europe.) ☺ P

    Wow, 300 pages!

Well done, Slimn. And that was my favourite funny, too 🙂 Thanks, RT. Lentils in oatmeal biscuits – did you cook them first? Sounds like such a healthy option, and the little ones liked them – win-win.

We lived in the US for four years, never saw a gun or heard anyone talking about them in that time, definitely under our radar (except I seem to remember them being mentioned at a party, and no-one admitted to possession of any). Perhaps we mixed with the wrong (right!) people.

It’s a beautiful mild still winter’s day here today, but I think we will need to batten down for the weekend. The next lot of weather is not coming from Queensland, but from the southern ocean. Let’s hope it brings some snow to the poor skifields.

Have a great weekend, all you lovely people. And I hope you find that lost voice soon, Jojo. Mime as you might, it’s not the same. 🙂

Hi Apricot – referring to your post last 19 June

I too have really benefited from reading posts on this site – I really have the sense that all this information, alongside the fasting, have given me a new lease on life!

I am beginning to suspect that the rule of thumb we use to calculate TDEE is somehow flawed. I think that we really all should be on a VLCD, but cannot come to what would be an acceptable method of calculation for this. Is it 800 calories? No, I think that the ideal probably lies somewhere between 1000 and 1500 calories.

I’ll leave it to the scientists to figure out – in the meantime, I will happily carry on with the 5:2 – actually I have now ‘graduated’ to ADF, which I plan to do for the next 5 weeks, and then revert back to 5:2 thereafter.

Purple. Reread my comment. Just playing with you. I lived in Austria, I’m clear. ❤️…..unless I’m missing that you are playing with me.

So do women say mate, or only men?

    I understand ☺☺
I use mate when I’m being casual or to men. It can also be a huge put down.

Looks like the Brits have given Europe the flick. I thought we’d moved on from isolationism, but I understand the disadvantages of “free trade” agreements. Could be a big problem for the world, financially. It has effected world markets already in the short term.
What next? Donald Trump? 😯 P

And looks like Britain leaves EU.

Indeed. Looks like the country is split right down the middle.
I’m watching how The Scottish are boycotting Donald’s golf course and have hung Mexican flags at other courses. I’m thoroughly enjoying that. 🙂
I guess I should go to sleep. Lil’ ones will be up bright n shiny.

Im in South England and still up watching the results. This is a moment in history to witness….

On the downside I have succumbed to wine whilst watching so will definitely have to have a full fast rather than 400 cal day today (its 5am)

I have been reading up on exercise and Im really confused. I want to tone up my flabby bits and get fit again so I have endurance for long walks and hills etc but I dont want to jeopardise my weight loss and reduction in fat loss…..thoughts please.

    Kay

    Sleep well Slimn
We are enjoying home made pizza and merlot in the sun for our Friday lunch 😆 P

    Hi Kay
Not sure where you are up to on 5:2, but you clearly have stamina if you are up at 5am!
Exercise won’t jeopardize your weight loss if you don’t eat to compensate for exercising. Think of it as an “add on”. The lighter you get, the more you feel like moving. At least do 100000 steps a day, walking is ideal. It tones your muscles, makes you feel good and gets you out getting Vitamin D! ☺ P

Hi Purple, feeling lots better thanks, my extra rest earlier in the week did the trick I think. Well enough to shop for the pending baby today – early baby shower tomorrow as too many family weddings to fit it in later! Boy I had fun, from baby things to Jurlique for Mummy, Visa card took a hammering!

No need to watch the news whilst following this thread – it has been a busy one today!

June 23 was Edward VIII’s birthday. He abdicated. Must be something in the date!

    Testing… 🙂

Morning…I won’t say good…! Only time will tell.

Funny, I went to bed thinking my international friends would know how the little islanders had voted before we did. And here you are discussing current affairs 🙂

No fasting for me today. My 24 hour fast earlier in the week has done the trick and got me comfortably in my maintenance range. I have a reasonably normal meal after the fast rather than severely calorie restricted, so it’s perhaps more ‘Eat Stop Eat’ rather than ‘6:1’.

Intermittent fasting is so beautifully flexible, you can always tailor it to your particular needs.

Amazon, I hope your Wimbledon tickets have arrived?

The GBP has devalued against the dollar and the cost of living will rise here in the UK, so there will be no better time to be on the Fast Diet because we won’t be able to afford to buy the food. Super slim we’ll be.

Looking for the silver lining Jim? 😉

I voted to leave. You’ll be able to blame me when it all goes to pot.

Oh dear, I’m already quite slim…not much more fat to be pared off these bones… It’s the workhouse for me then I guess… ☹️

    Morning/evening all,

“No. No! Australia not Austria!!! (It’s in Europe.)”

    Unlike the UK………

In the words of John McEnroe “you cannot be serious”

I am a very unhappy and disappointed woman as I thought the people of this island had better judgement than to believe the likes of Farage, and the fact that Trump has praised the decison says far more than I could.

The only good thing to come out of it is that we lose Cameron but goodness knows who his replacement will be.

That’s it, no more politics for me on this thread.

I stuck to my TDEE yesterday and am fasting again today, determined to succeed.

Happy, the arrival of the tickets has turned into Wimbledongate and as yet they are not in my possession but I’ve been assuerd they will arrive today. Unfortunately that assurance didn’t come from the Post Office who are in possession of them at the moment

Have a good one everybody 😜🌹

    Amazon,

    I second your sentiments entirely.

Fingers crossed the tickets turn up today.

Amazon I said stay too and I agree 100% with what you said . The majority of Scotland did .
The sun is shining and Ross and I are going to visit Dad . Jim is getting stronger every day . will take a while but that is fine 🙂
. Have a lovely day everyone . Och Aye the noo 🙂 🙂 xx

    Good Morning Friends 💖
The world politics! Politics is nice and necessary the clowns running it’s the problem. Enough.

Congratulations to me! Yesterday was my 14th non stop 5:2. Today I am pleased to know that I am getting closer to my goal. Left only 1/4 of total goal to reach. No big celebration yet because last year, this time I was here, forgot myself and the pounds came back and more.

Are you monitoring your fasting glucose? I took mine this morning after fasting yesterday and was 105. I think is high. I will keep watching.

Friday it’s the day we normally have company for dinner. The day is beautiful, need to go to the grocery store and go for walking.
RT – I loved the computer frozen lol
The case of Aus and Aus lolololololol
    See you later 💋

    Hi HCB,

I can’t see the point of monitoring fasting glucose unles there is a medical reason for doing so and as I have no concerns in that area I am leaving well alone. It’s a bit like using ketone sticks, if we are steadily losing weight then we are losing fat as I’m sure my 30 kgs weren’t all fluid or muscle 😉
I appreciate that some are more interested in the science of fasting but my prime concern is sticking to 5:2 as a way of life and ironing out the blips in my progress, something that is proving difficult but I’ll keep on trying 🙂

Amazon thank you! You are absolutely right! First things first and a battle at the time 💖
    😘

Went to Argos to collect new chest freezer and thought we’d pop into Morrisons to panic buy before the prices go up…bought 10 packs of dried beans to put into my slow cooker recipes instead of carrots & stuff.

While we were there we decided we would have a big breakfast in the cafe and we ordered extra black pudding and a bowl of chips. Quite shocked when we got home and looked on the website to discover that our breakfasts were 1532 calories each…aaahgh, that leaves only 568 calories for the rest of the day. I was going to have mince, pasta and a Loyd Grossman tomato & garlic suace which would be about 800 calories. Maybe if I went for a ride on the bike again.

Weemam, you’ll have to get everyone in Scotland to vote ‘Yes’ to independence next time and you can rejoin Europe. 🙂

Hahahaha…Amazon you are hilarious. Those first few lines had me laughing so loud my kids came to see why grumpy morning mummy was sounding strange!

Up at 3am to get airport for the flight to LA. Managed to fast yesterday and no alcohol which is good. Feeling bloated though, but hopefully that’s just the early rise. Will be on my best behaviour this weekend as supporting another of my hubbies movie at a festival. I tend not to drink at these events (or have 1 or 2) as I have seen many a person make an idiot of themselves in front of the cameras. Think mini Oscar event!

Sitting at the airport watching the news – as a Brit who left 20 years ago, I feel I cannot have too much of an opinion as I have no desire to live in the UK again. It has changed so much in 20 years. I see the Netherlands and France are following suit. Maybe they just need to shake up Brussels and reorganise how things work there. Just a thought.

Nearlyslimjim – I sometimes look up calories on menus before I go out to restaurants. Saves for healthier choices. Are they not making it law to have calories on menus now?

Congrats Healthcoach B and Amazon wow are people really panic buying in the supermarket there? It’s not a war!

Weemam glad Jim is doing better. Are you going to vote Scotland out of the U.K.?
