  • Hello,

Amazon could you please blow away some of the rain there. We need it badly.
And well, well! Summer solstice and I can’t believe how time it’s just spinning fast.
Beautiful day here but we need rain for our plants.
I normally Fast on Mondays but my best friend who is a Portuguese/English interpreter was in the area Courthouse for a case.
I made this beautiful vegetarian spinach wrap with 1 year corn for each and mixed fruit salad w/mint, lemon zest and juice and very little sugar for dessert. She couldn’t make it 😩
    Fast goes on tomorrow!
Hey Sarah that’s my dream wish the day I stop toying. Congratulations 😘
Good job for those who’s done with Monsays Fast.
    πŸ’–

Whew! Just trying to catch up with all of you! What a busy place!

I took a week off from watching what I ate and have a 3 lb gain to show for it. I’m doing my first proper 5:2 day in a long time today. It is nearly 3PM and all is well. I have my evening meal planned out and will come in well below 500 calories. I fasted for 16 hours before having a wee bit of lunch around 1. Dinner will be around 6 and that will be it for me! Also did a strenuous boot camp workout this morning, so hoping the scale will move down in a hurry. I know most of the 3 lbs was bloat from excess sugar and salt, so it should go quickly. Now on to the business of losing the last 20 lbs of “hard lard” that have been hanging around for years and years. It is time to get to goal and stop faffing about.

    Have a good week everyone!

    Hi All,
Very tough fast day and miserable weather this morning. I had a singles bowls competition this morning with a very unpleasant man. I suspect his attitude and rudeness was all part of his strategy to win. I responded calmly but stood up to him when he publicly bullied the lady who was marking for us. He got a good win but I wasn’t upset as he is a more experienced bowler.

    450 calorie day over.

    Hi everyone,

It’s been a tough FD for me too after a week off 😩 but I’m past the point where I would give in and eat. I’m relieved that the day is nearly over.
My flat is gleaming as it has been cleaned thoroughly, floors washed, furniture polished and I did all of the ironing and put everything away, including stuff unpacked on Saturday and left cluttering the place up πŸ˜‡
The rain stopped too late in the day for me to go out for a walk so it has been a lazy afternoon watching tennis. It is a lovely evening and I hope the good weather continues and the sun is shining when I wake up tomorrow morning.

Back to the gym tomorrow and another FD beckons.

Jo, I don’t know how you put up with the MCPs you meet at bowls, I know I couldn’t.

Just wanted to boast a wee bit . Just goes to show how our minds can be trained . We have gone through so much lately with all the worry about Jims operation . Now things are starting to settle down . We waited in all day for the nurse to come take out his stitches BUT Guess what? The hospital hadn’t informed them . Our DIL is a doctors receptionist ( not our doctor) and phoned and they will come tomorrow .Nothing worse than watching all day for someone to come to the house . Jim is still quite weak but getting stronger every day but I am getting quite good at changing dressings and giving injections ,makes me feel as if I am helping . Well!! what I am trying to say is that I am really much better on 5.2 than I ever thought I could be . I have had some ice cream AND yet I am the same weight I was weeks ago . maintenance has been much easier than I thought it would have been . That’s over a year now . Feel quite proud of myself as years ago when I was stressed I would have eaten everything in the cupboards . Even things I didn’t like much xx

    Wee xx

Well done weemam! I had a very naughty few days as we had friends visiting from Switzerland so lots of wine and lunches out, as well dinners at night and no gym. Stomach feels huge today as a result! Was so lovely to see them though as we don’t get many guests with being so far away from Europe.

Did my hour at the gym this afternoon and will fast tomorrow and Thursday.

Jojo – that’s terrible that you experienced such rudeness. Bowling is supposed to be about having fun or does it get very competitive?

Palm Springs this weekend, so highly motivated this week to fast. Not quite bikini ready but will take it anyway.

Hi all from Downunder – Melbourne has some sun today after a wet weekend/Mon. I have not been far from the fire (Jamieson) as caught a bug last week and feeling sorry for myself. It seems slightly better now, just a bit of a cough left, so time to return to the real world!

Weemam you should boast more often, its inspiring for everyone. It is great to hear Jim is doing so well and also great that you did not dive into the icecream and swim in it! I think those of us who have done this for a year or so really have changed some bad old habits and developed a belief in ourselves. Yes, even you Jojo! I know you regularly beat yourself up when you slip up, but the main thing is you press on! I agree with Amazon, the ‘gentleman’ at bowls does not deserve to play! I find that is the worst thing about any competitive sport, there is always someone who is desperate to win at any cost.

Amazon you must be so pleased that Andy had his usual warm up win for Wimbledon….. and just as well your flat is gleaming, there will be no time for that next week! I assume you will be going? Lets hope Andy does well.

    Hello,
Before turning off everything! Just a quick hello.
Wee thank you so much for the inspiration to keep going.
Jo – going through old messages from this thread and I see SAMM. I wish I could give him a call. What a nice soul πŸ™πŸ»
Wee – examples like yours keeps us going forward. Thank you.

My 5:2 first day of the week is tomorrow! Sorry for those having a hard time … “We are humans, above all”.

    Health, health and healthy
    πŸ’–

    Morning/evening all,

    Blue sky and sunshine 😎

I slept really well last night which surprised me after such a tough FD and going to bed wanting to eat, phew!

Nama, I hopw you feel much better soon. You’ve done the right thing by taking it easy and looking after yourself. I find if I try to fight cold bugs they seem to go on forever so I give in gracefully now.

As for Wimbledon, I’ve only been once and that was 40 years ago πŸ˜†
I’ve entered the ticket ballot several times and never been successful but as the TV coverage is so good with a choice of matches to watch every day I usually get to see what I want. I could get up at 2am and queue for the non show courts but I’m not that desperate πŸ˜‰
However this year I’m being taken as a guest to Centre Court and the package includes hospitality which means lunch, champagne, strawberries and cream, and of course excellent seats. We are going next Tuesday which means we are guaranteed to see Serena Williams, who I’ve never seen live, and Andy Murray so I am very excited especially as I’ll get the opportunity to see Ivan Lendl who was my favourite player once upon a time ❀ πŸ˜ƒπŸŽΎ

    Time to get moving,

Have a good one everybody 😜

Wow, Amazon, that’s something to look forward to. We’ll probably see you on the telly!

Dry but dull here. We had lashing rain and wind on Sunday night which has made a mess of the garden sadly, but the forecast for us is more settled now. I see the south east has more storms and flash floods heading it’s way later this week though…

I’m fasting today, as feeling flubbery and the scales tell me I should….

    Hi Happy,

I’m very excited about Wimbledon. If it rains I’ll still get to see tennis as they’ll just close the roof πŸ™‚ Of course I would prefer to see it warm and dry as it is an outside tournament, but it is great to know that there is no chance of our day being ruined by the weather.
I am very lucky to have been invited along 😸

It has clouded over here now but it is warm and I have all the windows and doors open. The forecast for the next couple of days mentions the chance of isolated heavy storms with localised flooding, but suggests that is likely to be in Kent so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

My garden has been well watered while I was away last week as all the pot holders are full of water and the earth is far from dry, so I guess there was a fair amount of rain. It is small and sheltered so doesn’t suffer too much it is stormy or windy. It is looking rather nice at the moment as I have roses, perennial salvias, old fashioned geraniums, fuchsias, osteospermums, ceanothus and various other plants including self set valerian and a few petunias and lobelia in bloom πŸ™‚

Amazon, thank you! I had a mental blank at the weekend when asked the name of one of my border plants. Red valerian 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

    Purple,
I think it was HealthCB who wanted you to go live with her mother, lol, but I will get her a copy of the book you advised. πŸ‘πŸ»

There were thousands of valerian in a variety of colours in bloom in Cornwall, Pink, that colour that is somewhere between pink, orange and red, and white which I’ve not seen before. It was in grass verges, gardens, growing out of walls and through fences. There were also foxgloves, pink campion, cow parsley (I think), daisies, buttercups and poppies growing wild everywhere. The roadside verges out in the countryside were beautiful. A fabulous display everywhere I looked and I’ve not seen it before as I used to visit Cornwall in spring so got to see primroses and bluebells, or in September/October and I have no recollection of what was in flower then apart from the small orange lily type flowers that grow everywhere.

OMG Amazon! I want to trade lives! I’m so excited for you I can hardly stand it! My parents always had a “Breakfast with Wimbledon” party every year to watch finals…it was my favorite! They would always have champagne n strawberries n cream. I’d like to win the lottery and take my dad to England for Wimbledon before he passes away. He has lung cancer but still gets out on the courts every week to play. He recovered from surgery and so far so good. 🎾

Not a great start to a fast day waking up at 5am. Black coffee keeping me going at the moment, but reckon it will be a tough one.

Amazon – that sounds wonderful. What a lovely treat for you.

SlimnHealthy – Sorry about your Dad. Mine also had cancer this year. I really wish someone would develop a cure.

Big step for me today as I think my house in Holland sold. I don’t know how people rent – my experience was not good and would not do it again. People really don’t take care of your home the same.

Off for another black coffee….roll on this evening….

My Mum used to be glued to the TV for 2 weeks every year watching Wimbledon and that is where I got my love for tennis. I often go to Queens but was away last week although back in time to see the final, and I’ve been to the World Tour Finals every year since 2009 but Wimbledon tickets have never come my way until now. I went to Rome in May and spent 2 days at the tennis which was a wonderful experience.

I’m very lucky to be going on Tuesday and I know it’ll be a great day 🎾🎾🎾

I really struggled with my FD yesterday but talked myself out of eating anything else other than my FD dinner. I’m aiming to fast again today and it is going OK so far. I usually only eat in the evening but needed something after the gym so had some yoghurt with a few berries to keep me going.
I bought lots of fresh English grown veggies this morning, asparagus, broad beans, peas, courgettes, lettuce so I intend to have a huge plate of them topped with an egg and a few shavings of the Cornish cheese I bought home with me for dinner tonight.

    Good Morning y’all,
So after catching up and blurting out a few commentaries, you can see that I survived camping in Texas without a Rattler or anything dangerous to be seen! I’ve learned how very shy snakes are since moving here. I must be getting used to the heat too. We swam in a beautiful River with 2 waterfalls. Little turtles swam right past us. The rock formations looked like we had gone to another planet. And of course the long day and full moon made for a magestic time.

The partial day fasts went well n we mostly ate salad n some good bakery sour dough breads. No vacation “pig out” so pleased with that. I had a tiny bit of red wine but added soda water to cut it and it was like a bubbly rose. 😊

Finally, I had a proud moment. When the children first got in the river, with its water fall currents and all, I started feeling really anxious and uptight and almost went to get the rest of the wine to put in my water bottle!!!! Then, I thought, I know a better way to relieve this anxiety. So I told my husband to watch the kids while I had a little meditation and he promised he would. I meditated for 10 minutes I’d say and when I opened my eyes, my first thought was ” holy shit this place is beautiful, and I got all filled with a sense of awe….like I couldn’t see it when I was anxious” After that I was in ” relaxed alert” with kids in the river and enjoined myself thoroughly.

That’s it, happily back to a full fast day today. Happy day everyone!!!

    Hello everyone.

I did a full water only fast day yesterday which was a bit difficult around 6pm and then the empty feeling just went away. I woke up this morning really early and couldn’t get back to sleep so I got up. I decided to see how long I could go extending my water only fast and see if I can make it to 6pm, which will have been a 48 hour fast altogether. I think I’ll do this every week instead of the Saturday and Monday idea I had before.

I prepared a stew for the slow cooker and put in three sausages, two carrots, an onion, three large mushrooms and a red pepper, which according to the Calorie, Carb & Fat Bible comes to about 1050 calories. I then thought it would be nice if I had mashed potato with butter, a Yorkshire pudding and a couple of dumplings with it until I worked out that if I eat those as well, I’ll go over my daily TDEE by about 600 calories. I have given them to my neighbour so I won’t be tempted and he’s not worried about being overweight and will eat anything.

    Hello,

Last night a had a little extra fermented white grape juice. I have to say I am controlling myself better lately.. Interesting fact as I fast today my glucose at the 17th hour was 84. Last week was lower but I behaved better prior to it. Black coffee, green tea and lots of water so far.

Jim would you consider sweet potato or cauliflower mash instead of white potatoes. Also I am a big fan of turkey or chicken sausage. Yorkshire pudim I don’t know what it is but sounds delicious.

I could sleep last night! There’s a creature inside the wall in our bedroom right by our heads. It was chewing on something the entire night. We have no idea what it is and how to trace it.
Also Sasha couldn’t sleep because of lightning and thunder but not rain.
Done with Yoga, very hot and I am tired. Will break my fast with some miso soup in a little big.
    Be well everyone
    πŸ’–

    HCB,

Chicken and turkey sausage are not common in the UK. The majority of sausages eaten are made from pork or beef and lamb is becoming more common in our cosmopolitan society. There are a few cheap and nasty ones out there but the majority are good quality and contain a high percentage of meat. I opt for cereal free varieties although I only eat them two or three times a year usually when I’ve lit the BBQ.

Jim, well done for giving the carbs away. There is no reason why you can’t have a small portion of potatoes cooked any way you like, or dumplings or Yorkshire, but only one of those per meal as too many carbs are what got most of us in trouble with our weight in the first place.

I love potatoes and when I used to have an allotment, the day I dug up the first potatoes of the season was always very special. I eat far less of them now and enjoy them all the more now they’ve been elevated to a treat rather than a daily staple.

I’ve got a copy of the calorie, carb and fat bible and find it invaluable πŸ™‚

I found it interesting, more a history of weight loss and health, good advice to avoid sugar and flour – carbohydrates

    Hi all,
Im back from my camping trip in Devon. Just caught up with the all the posts from the last few days!

Yesterday was my last day of week 2 and I wasnt at home this morning for weigh in so will be doing that in the morning. I am a little anxious as 5 days out of the last 7 have been ‘off diet’ although day 1 was within TDEE and Day 2 was a 41 hour complete fast.
On the whole, whilst away my food choices were fairly good with only 1 very naughty meal. However my drink choice was far from good so I am expecting to pay the penalty!

Today is the start of week 3 and has been a 17hr fast since last night although I am having a 400 cal day rather than full fast which is going to be easier transition back into 5:2!

So head down for the next 5 weeks and then Im away again camping etc but for over 2 weeks.

    Kay

They sound like rats HealthC. 😯
Sorry about the confusion Slimn. So many new posters for my old memory!
Well done James. It is great to set yourself a challenge and achieve it! You did the wise thing giving away the carbs. Cutting out the white carbs, when you start, allows you to learn to live without them. They can then be reintroduced, with caution, once you are at goal. You will get there much faster if you do. 😊
    Cheers all P

Well, my first full fast day since fathers day werkend/1st babysitter/camping extravaganza…arg, not feeling the ease today. πŸ˜” Hubby just flew off for a business trip n i feel like my parents just left me alone with the key to the booze cabinet! This has nothing to do with my husband who is never snything but accepting, loving and supportive! Maybe just too many challenges at once. Decided to cook Vegan Cheesy Millet for kids with Navy Beans n greens…had to taste millet to see if enough nutritional yeast n coconut oil to give cheesy flavor! Now i want to just make it a meal m fast after. πŸ˜”πŸ˜‘ oh well, not every day has ease or is successful. πŸ‘½βœŒπŸ½οΈ

BTW SlimJim (no family relation, lol) well done with long fast and stew and giving food to neighbors. Well done.

One taste and there’s no going back, Slimn. Happens to us all. 😯 Better luck next time. P

Wow Nearlyslimjim that sounds like quite the feast! My Mum is from Yorkshire and puddings were a treat every Sunday with the roast dinner! Have you tried making little ones in a bun tin and using skimmed milk? Works just as well and a lot less calories.

Kay65 your holiday sounded lovely. Devon is so beautiful isn’t it? Don’t beat yourself about the wine, we all enjoy to relax on holiday.

slimnhealthy I tend to eat a lot of leftovers when my hubbie is away on business and easier to stay off the booze as no one to have a glass with after dinner.

Had 1 gluten free cracker today, a plain salad and spiralled some courgettes for pasta tonight. Hubbie will have normal pasta so at least I don’t have to make separate meals for my skinny hubbie.

My new bikini arrived today and it doesn’t look too bad. I am sure I won’t be the only non perfect body in Palm Springs this weekend so will wear with confidence.

    Happy fasting everyone.

Purple, thank you, and yes! Note taken- no more “tastes” at 5pm!

Ali looks great in a bikini (or something like that)- good idea, cooking from scratch is too tempting to taste for proper balance of ingredients. And I love Palm Springs. Used to go down there and meet up with a bunch of friends on free weekends in Med School. So many good memories. Plenty of imperfect bodies, even the movie stars without airbrush, just strut your stuff!

So i went for it and ate with my kids. Will either fast tomorrow or do another fast till 5pm. We’ll see. Still playin’ around with what works.

In the deliciousness of breaking a fast and eating with my kiddos, we completely forgot to go to tap class! Lol! Oops!

Oh, well, i need a do over tomorrow.

Ali just relax and enjoy the fresh air and try not to be self conscious. Most people are more concerned with how they look themselves… There is an annual winter solstice swim in Hobart (Tasmania) every year, this year almost 700 people swam naked in the freezing cold water of the Derwent River. There was film footage on the news and what an eye opener! All shapes and sizes, obviously not the self conscious types!! If you want to feel better about yourself, just google it. The link is still there today.

Amazon I envy you going to Wimbledon, especially with such great seats. I love watching it every year, but lots of late nights involved for us in Aus! Sometimes its only a rain delay that gets me to bed!! It is getting really hard to get good seats at the Aus Open now. I went every year for ages but gave up about 7 years ago as the ‘Corporate’ seats took over. At one stage I even bought series sets of tix as they went on sale a few days earlier, but it got to the point that I could only get seats in the back 10 rows, way up with the gods, even if I got on line the second they went on sale. Years ago before it was so popular, seats in the first few rows were easy to get…ah I am sounding old and grumpy now. Easier to watch it on tv… though nothing compares to seeing it live. It sounds like you will have a wonderful time on Tuesday.

I made salmon patties with a twist last night. Instead of all mashed potato with the salmon, onion and egg, I used half sweet potato plus some cauliflower to make the mash. Also added some corn kernels. Very tasty and pretty healthy. My mum used to call hers Salmon patties, but she always used Tuna! I guess with four kids to feed, salmon was a bit expensive!

    Hey everyone!

Thought you all might enjoy this easy way to keep glycemic index down!

    http://nutritionfacts.org/video/beans-and-the-second-meal-effect/

    Good nite!

    Hello,
The fast it’s over and bedtime will be soon but I am hungry this time. Maybe a nice mint tea will help.
Ali I just turned 50, have a muffin top and love to wear bikinis. Must be that Brazilian twist lol enjoy your vacation. I am sure the weather it’s gorgeous there.
Anaide that link you posted earlier it’s very powerful. I truly believe that insulin has to be in place for us to burn the extra fat.
Nama what a delicious way of making salmon. Also I am thinking of 700 people, naked and swimming on cold water. Good for them πŸ™πŸ».
    Tomorrow it’s another day
    πŸ’–

Thanks Slim – a good reminder to eat our beans and lentils! I just happen to have a huge pot of pea and ham soup simmering!! Melbourne people who enjoy our winter game of Aus Rules football associate the football season with pea and ham soup and I am not going to argue with that, love pea soup!

Nama you really made me laugh – just googled it and wish they were wearing bikinis!! Good for them! Takes a lot of guts to do that! Salmon pasties sound yummy! I might try them!

Healthcoach – how glamorous you must look in a bikini with your beautiful skin! I am Scottish so at least my freckles will start to join up in the sunshine!

Courgette pasta tonight was yummy! And only 30 calories! Plus some red pepper sauce. As nice as pasta and much healthier. 8pm and had about 400 calories so feel pretty good.

Just made some homemade granola for breakfast with fruit, so looking forward to that in the morning. Off for a cup of tea now. Keep strong everyone – not many hours left to go!

Well Ive braved the scales and the news is….Im half a pound down and another 1% fat down…..so Im chuffed…..obviously the fast before and after the holiday helped. Its helped me see that this could really work as a WOL πŸ™‚

I decided against watching the video…you can never unsee things once they have been seen! But it is useful to be reminded that we shouldnt be self conscious…thats our conditioning from media to think that anything other than model type bodies is bad!

Have a good healthy day everyone, whether its fasting or eating πŸ™‚

    Kay

    Morning/evening all,

FD was a disaster yesterday and I ate far too much. If I start eating at lunchtime I invaribly fail so I’ll have to make sure I don’t give in next time but hold out until dinner.
Enough said and am fasting today instead.

Nama, I went to the Hopman Cup in Perth on NYE 2013 and watched Australia (Stosur and Tomic )v Italy (Pennetta and Seppi) I was thrilled as Stosur and Pennetta are two of my favourite women players. Pennetta has retired now and I wouldn’t be surprised if Stosur does the same this year as she is 33 now. I’m so pleased to have had the chance to see them.
Bernard Tomic gets a lot of bad press mostly due to his ghastly father but I have to say that he came across as a nice young man and I think he has been misunderstood and treatly harshly which has made him defensive and somewhat prickly in adversity. And of course despite (probably) knowing his Dad has behaved atrociously he loves him and it hurt when he was banned from attending any matches.
As for tickets, I’ve never had problems getting ticketd for Queens or WTF but Wimbledon has always been difficult. I guess I should start entering the ballot as my luck must change some time πŸ˜ƒ

I’m home today waiting for the tickets to be delivered 🎾🎾🎾

Have a good one everybody 😜

Amazon our young (Australian) male players are getting progressively ruder, so Tomic does not seem as bad as the current crop! I hanker for the days of Pat Rafter ( !! ) etc, when even Philopousis seemed arrogant in comparison. Looking back he was an angel compared to Kyrgios! Its embarrassing. My earliest tennis memory is going to the Aus Open as a young teenager, when it was still played at Kooyong, seeing Billie Jean King!! Now that dates me!

I hope your fast is more successful today. I wasn’t going to bother with fasting this week as still very snotty, but food tastes like cardboard at present, so I am not tempted to overeat anyway! Looking forward to getting back to the pool when my cough clears up.

Jo is your bathroom finished yet? We finally got our shower screen fitted today, so ours if finally done. It looks so good I want to do the other bathroom now!

    Other bathroom……..daydream

I live in a one bedroomed flat and yearn for more space but there is no chance that I’ll ever be able to afford it without mobving out of London which is not something I wish to do.

Once upon a time you would feel unwell for a day, have a shocking cold the next day and on the third day it would be almost better. Nowadays viruses hang around forever rattling around in sinuses and lungs and causing all manner of unpleasant symptoms. I’ve no idea why but it is really frustrating.

I’m feeling vaguely unwell today and the only explanation I can come up with is too many carbs yesterday. The good news is that I don’t feel like eating anything so shouldn’t have a problem sticking to my fast today.

I waited in for the postman this morning and he didn’t deliver my tickets. I guess they’ll come tomorrow while I’m at the gym and I’ll need to go and collect them as I have to sign for them 😠

Kyrgios has calmed down a bit but he is a marked man and every time he utters a word he is in trouble. It is entirely his own fault and he needs to keep quiet and concentrate on his tennis as he is extremely talented and could go far.

Amazon I am sure many people in the burbs would swap their second bathroom for your flat IN LONDON! With Kew Gardens on your doorstop – nope sorry, no sympathy from me!
Whenever we come back from our tiny cottage in Jamieson this house seems way too big, now that the kids and partners have moved out. We needed it when there were a couple of over 6′ tall teenagers, plus friends, but now I sometimes think its too big. But I would miss my garden….
You probably do have a carb hangover – scary how easily we can slip back into bad eating (even semi bad when on holiday) isn’t it? Thank goodness we have fasting now!
My theory re the nasty viruses – we ‘soldier on’ and try to ignore them, plus they are probably more virulent. I caught so many when I worked on a paeds medical ward, usually curtailed them with rest and mega doses of Vit C, but the air was thick with snot on that ward! Plus they always hang around longer if we don’t give in and rest.

I’m not expecting sympathy as when others were asking for and being granted huge mortgages in order to buy a house I was on holiday! Having said that I find it very frustrating that I’ve never been able to buy somewhere a bit bigger without impoverishing myself because I was born in London and don’t wish to live elsewhere.

I definitely have a carb hangover, that’s why my FD was so difficult on Monday and why I failed yesterday. If I can succeed today I think I’ll be back to normal, whatever that is πŸ˜‰

    Good morning y’all,

My new vocabulary word for the day… Chuffed… So it seems Kay is ‘very pleased’. My husband imitated me yesterday when I used a phrase y’all say frequently…it appears I’m picking up British word usage! Lol. Good thing I can’t hear these texts! I’ve always had a good ear for language as how many Americans do you know who speak 3 extra languages fluently with absolutely no immigrant parents! So I just can’t help myself!!!!! My dad was an opera singer (hence the good ear for sound) and my mom was a stickler for proper grammar…so I blame them! Lol. (Not that I use that grammar talent online-too much bother!)

Anywho, Kay! I’m chuffed as well! Back from holiday and you braved the scale…if that weren’t enough already, you are down a half pound and 1% fat! Super!!!!

Amazon and Nama, I think I’ve lost touch with the young players since having children, seems the only names I know now are the ones getting ready to retire! πŸ™ Kids have really ruined me. Lol. And as for an aging marker, my very first racket was a wooden Chrissy Everett racket, along with my first all white with navy blue trim tennis dress. They don’t make them so sweet anymore. My daughter looks like she is going to play basketball! πŸ™ƒ I even had a one handed back hand till the 80s! Lol

As for houses with bathrooms, in order to get kids in a “safe and good friends” neighborhood, and you don’t have a million dollars to be in the nice inner city neighborhood with sweet little old houses from the 50s (don’t laugh, I know what you are thinking about old and 50s) this suburban house has 3 baths with a giant master bath (bigger than my entire flat in Paris), but I’d trade it in a second for a little place in Europe. I’m such a misfit here. But alas, children, grandparents, cousins, etc etc…sometimes, you are just stuck where you are born, trying to make the best of it. This house has far too much cleaning, and no money leftover for cleaning help. Trying to talk my hubby into a tiny house on a big piece of land if I can’t have the proper city, but he insists the kids need this neighborhood with friends to play with… I suppose… It’s all a compromise. So back to my meditations on gratitude. I’m working on it , even if it’s not in my nature. 😬 On a positive note, if y’all are ever in Austin and you need a not so well cleaned “fasting B n B ” , there’s plenty of room!

I’m fasting till dinner for sure, then we’ll see. Kids n I are going to cook up a huge mess of vegetables and beans and very very low sugar oatmeal cookies ( my kids rarely eat sugar so they think things are sweet when they are not, lol), then we will go for a nice walk when the sun starts setting – without my Swiss husband watching the clock, we are making a late night party every night in my bedroom with movies and pallets! I miss my hubby when he is on business but this “loose” clock is the positive spin!

Happy fasting and NF day everyone! ❀️

Hi everybody. Good advice on the beans Slim, think I’ll have a go with some of them instead of rice and pasta. HealthCoachB, unfortunately I tried sweet potatoes a year of so ago and I’m afraid I dislike them intensly, but I might give the cabbage mash a try; I wonder if it is possible to make it out of a savoy cabbage, which I love. I might just have a whole savoy cabbage as it is with every meal.

I found a box of porridge oats in the cupboard which I must have bought some months ago, so I’ve decided to have that for breakfast on a morning instead of three thick slices of homemade bread toasted with butter and with a teaspoon each of marmalade on. The difference is 600 cals for the porridge (made with soya milk and with a squeeze of honey in it) and 1200+ cals for the toast, which ultimately means I can have a bottle of real ale in the evening after my tea and still be within my TDEE.

My neighbour and myself are going to Morecambe tomorrow as it’s going to be a warm sunny day. We usually park in the centre, go for a short walk along the prom and then find a restaurant to have lunch in, but this time we have decided to take our bicycles (he has an electric bike and I have an MTB) and park about a mile out of the centre and cycle in. Apparently Morecambe promenade is five miles long, quite wide and cycle friendly, so that will give me a bit of exercise with pedalling for 12 miles trying to keep up with him. We are also hoping to find a fish & chip shop with tables outside so we can have lunch and keep an eye on the bikes. I haven’t had fish & chips for a few years now and I’m really looking forward to them.

    Jim,

Enjoy your ride tomorrow. I’ve done plenty of cycling round the Morecambe Bay area, but never the prom. It always appealed for running too, being flatter than where I lived! The views are fantastic across the Bay, always inspiring.

    Amazon,

I can’t trust myself to eat early on a fast day either. Luckily I seem to have got 24 hour fasting cracked, so much easier if the previous day has been carb light, and helped along with miso and a lick of butter πŸ˜€

How exciting and wonderful to read everyone’s progress and success on their study of one congratulatons to you all it is very motivating indeed find your doable and keep on keeping on the fast life is the only WOL

The difference is between restricting some foods all the time (CER) and restricting all foods some of the time (IER). This is the difference between failure and success.
    Peace RT

That quote will go ‘straight to the poolroom’, RT! (Aussie reference. .. The Castle.. for o/s readers πŸ˜†) P

Ha, ha. If SlimnHealthy hangs around she will be learning plenty of Aussie speak too with you and Purple RT! That is a great quote though BTW.

SlimnH by the time you get to your 60’s you will realise a clean house is vastly overrated. It stays much cleaner once the kids move out, but you will wish it was messy again! My husband went to Austin once for his work, (worked for a silicone valley mob), his memory is of very friendly people and his first taste of home cooked artichoke! And I have my 1st wooden tennis racket too – a genuine antique!

Nearly slim – there appears confusion over my mention of mash I made for Salmon patties. Instead of usual plain potato (with onion, egg, herbs), I ‘diluted’ the potato with mashed sweet potato and mashed cauliflower. Not sure where the cabbage came from?! I eat a lot of raw cabbage daily in coleslaw, my ‘go to’ food, but also love it braised with a tiny bit of butter, finely chopped bacon and onion. Learned that when I worked in a German nursing home once. I also put a lot of it in soup, but not sure about mashing it??

Writing on tablet on the floor this morning as puppysitting my fur grandchild again – we may make it weekly, he enjoys it and I get my ‘dog fix’ Just like a toddler in the house, he just watched me have a shower and kindly licked my legs dry for me…

Has Jojo been kidnapped by aliens – hope you are ok Jo? Not like you to disappear….but then if your son is still around you will be busy!

    Hello,
What a nice day here today!
We went to visit my husband’s daughter and take her and husband out for lunch. The place was magnificent. Hudson Ricer overlooking The Hudson Valkey. Was her birthday Sunday. A small Cobb Salad and a glass of Pinot Grigio.
After we stopped to visit the other daughter and there we extended the visit and there was pizza and wine so I indulged myself with two slices.
Jim I love anything cabbage and I eat at least cooked or roasted twice a week plus my own sauerkraut on salads.
Nama how do you make yours Coleslaw? Mine its thinly sliced cabbage, carrots, red onions and sometimes pineapple, Apple or raisins and the dressing is my own kefir, little mustard, honey and here we have olive oil maionayse 60 calories per Tbsp.
Fast it’s on tomorrow! Success to you tomorrow and congratulations if you are done today.
    πŸ’–

Wow, it’s late here, just got done with kids movie party, “How to train a dragon”. Finally got them in bed and turn on the tele…. Never seen this before and reporters who are much older than me say they’ve never seen it. House Dems staging a protest on the House Floor, singing “We shall overcome” because gun control laws failed to pass. Unprecedented.
