  • Saturday will be my first test . Our eldest granddaughter just turned 25 and is having a BBQ . Believe it or not but in my 72 years I have never been to a BBQ . I am really looking forward to it AND I will be careful .

    Wee xx

I like going to the events for the food , and the people:)
I try not to eat very much of the starchy comfort foods that are starchy. And typically if I try to esstimate the calories is pretty low if eating meats and vegetables without the breads and potatoes.

Last fastest tomorrow . Was so sleepy today I slept the whole time from off work till time to go back. Ileast I didn’t over eat anything. While I was asleep.

    Good morning fast trackers,
It’s a dull day here but at the dogs won’t get overheated.
Weemam, I live in a seaside town, doesn’t stop the Mosquitos, net has holes in it honey, may even be an invitation, they bite through denim here, the buggers. Watch out at the BBQ, you may not be the only one getting a meal, put some spray on before you go. I do use teetree wipes, not effective I am afraid. Have a great time Weemam, you deserve it.

Yoga this morning, then bowls. More scones to make too, not much rise on the ones I made last night. Adding a cream cheese and chive filling to bulk them out.

My bowling last night was very poor, too tired, didn’t get over 100. Ah well that’s life, some you win, some you lose. My ex was very chuffed with himself getting 158.

All I want is to learn to do a smooth delivery both at bowls and bowling, it’s all about releasing when your swing is at the lowest point to the ground, not easy for me. Really could do with some one-to-one coaching.

Feeling bloated today so adding a final fast day this week, wish me luck, it’s been a tough week being strict on my diet.

Good luck on your weigh in’s tomorrow guys – I hope you all achieve 2 lbs.

    Fingers crossed!

Remember -Kitchen pickers wear bigger knickers! (old weight watchers saying)

    Good evening fast trackers,
Fast Diet out of the window today, another buffet and then dinner at a thai restaurant tonight. That’s life.
Cheese scones with cayenne were fabulous – yum – cream cheese and chive filling – irrestible, unfortunately. Everyone loved them.
I will try fasting again tomorrow
Still sticking to tea and water though so not all bad, plus I have walked miles today, my feet are killing me.
    Have a great weekend everyone
    Love Jo xx

    Hello all,
Just got in from a brilliant first night out at our local Folk Festival. Thai meal was great. Music was terrific too. Met some interesting folks.
I am going to a ‘laughing Worksop’ in the morning, sound fun?
    We will see

Laughing workshop sounds like tons of fun!

    Morning Ply,
It was absolutely great, they have been going 20 years, creation of an Indian Doctor from Mumbai, you can get information on line.
There were only 4 of us this morning but she often does workshops of over 100. She works with cancer patients and disabled, also children and businessmen. There of lots of health benefits apparently including the immune system. I will be signing up for a monthly class, it was great.
Going off for a roll up( bowls practise) before starting my voluntary shift at a Folk week in the performance tent, so pleased to get this location as they have the best bands. Bit worried about Mosquitos but have put bands on wrists and ankles and covered in Deet so here goes.
I think my fasting will not be happening this week, just too much going on with shifts and visitors. It’s a bit defeatist but realistic. Still drinking water only though so that should help.
    Have a good weekend all

All around my hat tra la la la la

He he he Ho oh oh whee whee – just practising my laughing – join me!

    Muja ha haw haa

I try my evil laugh but I believe you have to have an evil heart for it .

My fasts are over for the month.
    Weigh in. 212lbs

Was hoping for better numbers, but I’m still pleased. Bet if I didn’t step on scale so often it would be even happier about it.

I’m reading about aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Seems only anaerobic exercise can can actually burn fat instantaneously vs aerobic that is just just counting calories .
Sprints being. One of the doable exercises for me.

Oat bran with cherries, blueberries , and a prune.
    Beans for lunch.
And fish dinners for my restriction days meals.

I’m still planning to observe my 4/3 lifestyle.
Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays I plan to have a 600 calorie restriction on those days.

It keeps it simple for me , because those are the days I fast also. So I keep the routine even when not fasting.

I believe I can stick to the B2B Friday, Saturday fasting once an month and have the other 3 weekends free.

    Have a wonderful time !

    Hi All,
Brilliant music all afternoon and evening, salad lunch but egg and chips for tea. However I have done 24,464 steps

I need an early night, very tired

    Goodnight all

Evening all . Well!! was at my first BBQ ever and it was brilliant . I made it an eating day but they had steak so I had that and a side salad . Can you see my halo lol? so it worked out I have had 3 fasting days this week and I am feeling so good . Got some lovely compliments on my appearance too :). You are all doing so well and that is keeping me going sooo thank you all . Really tired no so off to bed with a big smile on my face 🙂

    WEE xx

    Good morning fast trackers,
Had a lie in this morning, really needed it plus a long day and night ahead of me.
Fancy dress party after my evening shift at the Folk Festival. It’s been years since I went to a party which started at 11 pm. Not an elaborate costume, all pink with a false long blonde ponytail, should be fun. Must get some pink earrings today.
Watching what I eat today as yesterday was a disaster with three meals out and only one sensible. Even walking miles didn’t work off the effects. One new bite so not bad going as my door person job is in a tree filled park. Tonight will be the problem as I am on from 6.30 to 11 pm, prime time for Mosquitos but I will go prepared for war. Today I am having breakfast out then soup or fish with veg later.
Well done Weemam, it’s great when you get compliments too isn’t it?
I will follow your example and order something sensible at breakfast.
    Have a good day all

    HAPPY4U Weemam

I find moving fast days to fit events very doable. I mean yea , the weight loss seems to take a year or longer. But I haven’t felt like I was dieting all that time. Four days a week eating normal. Istarted counting calories on my feed days , because that’s what seems to drag out the weight loss. However I needed to learn to count my carbs especially for when I get to my goal. I don’t want being able count carbs difficult and then slip back into blank check eating till full every time .

Another bowl of oat bran with antioxidant fruits. And strong roasted dandelion root tea. Measured to 400 calories. Will weigh in on Saturday’s to make sure I’m keeping off what I lost. So if I need to restart again I’ll know.

Sounds like loads of fun, Jojo! You inspire me to get more involved in community events!
I slept in today as well, needed it after a long week away from home with entirely too much driving. 5 more days of this, then I am off until Sept. 2, except for all the correcting and grade reporting paperwork!
Weemam and SAMM, great job on the continued weight loss and temptation-avoidance! I think I will stay off the scale for the next few weeks while my schedule gets back to “normal.”

Failed miserably avoiding high cal foods today so off to dance for many, many hours in my bright pink 80’s gear including my extra long blond pony tail. Yea ha folks. Hey Weemam, I enjoyed 2 hours of Celtic music this afternoon, electric bag pipes, whatever next? Brilliant for jigging around.
Speak tomorrow if I have the energy

It is true, if you do not eat your 1200 your body will go into starvation mode and will stop burning the fat in order to protect you from starvation. You may not lose weight for a while but then it will re-adjust and start burning it off again.

Have you read Dr M’s article “The Myth of Starvation Mode” on the homepage of this site?

    Hello All,
My control has gone out the window. I am seriously regretting taking on this voluntary job. Only from the food viewpoint. It’s been bacon sandwiches, lattes, potato wedges, it’s crazy. I am out all day and evening so getting food on the run. I have tried to get healthy food but it’s a trial, run out or not available in the locations I am posted at, the concert marquee. No excuses for the drinks though just preferring the milky drinks to warm me up after a downpour.
I will try harder tomorrow and return to my flat for meals. Hope I haven’t done too much damage.
    Good luck fellow fasters.
As regards eating enough and starvation mode – not too impressed with professional opinions. Sometimes you lose on 1200 and other times you don’t – exercise factor comes into it.

It seems you and I are always off track at the same time, Jojo! My schedule of teaching, preparing, and traveling has been killing me lately. Stress, lack of routine, and being away from home is not a good combination for me. Not to mention the weekend family beach parties. The good part is that I am done on Thursday! It is somewhat disheartening when yiu can be so good for so long, as you start to feel that you really have it all down, but then you get thrown off track. Constant vigilance is necessary!

    Good morning everyone .
I weighed in yesterday 14 lbs less . I ended up having 3 fast days . When went to the BBQ I was using it as an eating day , They had steak and salad and I stuck with that so 3 fasts . I eat more this week on my eating days too . At first I was eating a lot less calories than I should have been but My fitness pal has been great and helping me calculate the best things .
I am feeling so good within myself and my RA is not horrendous now . I can bear it and that too is brilliant . I am loving this WOL and I am sure I can keep it going without any problems .
sorry I am not about more but I am kept busy with My son My hubby and my Dad who all need care . Thank you again for all the tips and encouragement .

    WEE xx

Well done Weemam, how exciting 14 lbs in no time at all.
Hi Ply, we do seemed to be linked across the miles, both ups and downs. I have given up on fasting this week, too much when you are out in the fresh air all day, don’t know why but it’s a factoid. I have controlled my eating though, fish pie( herby potato topping) and salad. Did follow it with a latte though, no dinner for me naughty girl ,well maybe some home made soup if I get desperate. The spoons playing rhythm classes are coming on well now so we are performing on Friday to hundreds of people, crazy. I may get my husband to record it so I can show my kids that you are never too old to learn a new skill. I got my flapper fringe dress in the post today so I need to practise my charleston too. It’s such a fun life when you can get out there and really live it. Hey ho. My yoga laughter class was great too this morning, check out John Cleese yoga laughter on line and you will find out all about it. Seriously good for your health, do read up on it or attend a class near you, they are all over the world now, been going 20 years. I plan on training, I can’t think of a better job.

Jojo I am tired just reading about all the things you are doing:). I am pleased though that you are having fun, We should all do something we love to do .taking a video is a brilliant idea to show the grand-kids . I have so much fun going back 20 years or so and seeing the fun we all had then. Our eldest granddaughter is 25 now and I delight in embarrassing her with the old videos ( she loves it)
I love to drive which is just as well as with 3 disabled in the family (plus myself )I am always driving someone somewhere .
It is wet and quite miserable here today so I am just catching up with wee jobs about the house .
    Have a good day everyone
    Wee xx

    Good evening fast trackers,
Just come off duty and sitting with my feet up before heading out to another concert. Just been watching a blue grass American band. The Singer/ fiddler ‘April’ was an excellent dancer(stepper) too, very talented. Makes my spoon play look a bit insignificant.
Eating reasonably well but still feeling the non stop eating mode which seems to come with being outdoors all the time. It may also be boredom eating as I do a lot of hanging around when on door duty.
I really need to get back into my routine next week, I am definately not making progress at the moment.

I know what mean, or at least I think ido about non stop eating. When I abandoned “If” after 8 months of losing 33 lbs. I was back into an eati g mode that was unplanned . I wa so delighted to get back on the IF lifestyle after a break. #1 because the feed days were filled with great food and good friends. Family meals were no longer mundane. However it took some long hard pondering on how to completely change as a menu writer and shopper and meal preparer.

    I aim for 2lbs ,but I’m happy with 1lb
I plan a doable 4:3 ,but will accept 5:2 ad long a I’m not eating just to get a good fillin.
I shop on line, and keep foods that are simple simple simple, mostly frozen, microwavable to thaw.

Then it’s the probiotics and antioxidants, and supplements that fill in the spaces ,where I used to just eat a bag of chips. I used to fear my kitchen on fasting days, now I just completely avoid it all together. I use my kitchen fo feed days. And I love it again .

I moved away from my garden, but there’s always the market. I try to think global, but shop local.so not to use fossil fuels to transport healthy foods. At least when my farmers are harvesting, and the greenhouses are still selling!

The second biggest difference is fish. I keep saying it , but damn itsso easy. I badinage ally started eating fish instead of hamburgers ,not exactly a fat loss food ,but is a heAlthfood , non the less.n

    Hi All,
Today I am determined to improve. Breakfast at home scrambled eggs and taking fruit out with me today. Lunch will be soup then out for afternoon tea. I can get control back in my life. Off to laughter class then spoons playing. Speak later.
    Hope everyone is doing well?

Hello everyone hope you are well. I’ve had a challenging week -far too much socialising and eating out! It was my birthday so I had a good excuse. I have however lost more weight, my total is now 10lb in 1 month and I’m thrilled.
There are a few surprises on this diet – fast days are not as bad as I would have thought, the waves of hunger are managable and I view them possitively – I’m not ravenous the day after a fast, my whole attitude to food has shifted and control is the new experience. I am however aware that it is early days for me and the honeymoon period is not over. I find this forum very inspiring and the support and tips invaluable.
    Best wishes to all:)

    Hello Tartan lass,
Well done, glad you are enjoying our thread. We are all at different stages. I have lost 4 stone now but still have 4 to go. It’s the long haul for me but I am determined to succeed.
Socialising does make this programme difficult but not impossible. Actually I have really missed my fast days this week but I decided I couldn’t cope with them this week as I am a volunteer at a Folk Festival. It’s really exhausting but lots of fun.

The rain is coming down in buckets at the moment, not looking forward to going out in it. I am working on the door of the performance tent, if it doesn’t calm down we will not be able to hear the band over the thunder. I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow afternoon as I am performing my newly learnt skill of playing the spoons, should be fun even if it isn’t musical.

Keep up the good work everyone

    Jojo

Im having a bout with alcohol ism
ii recuse myself for a few days.

Fasting is not the answer but for longevity . Fasting is both a weightloss a n d immuneo factor.

Love what you are doing. My inspuration.

speak to yo in few days

my b ext fasting pgasr to begin on the 27Th

    Hi SAMM

I do feel for you SAMM; you seem to be beset with an unduly large set of extremely distressing issues. No-one in their right mind would sit in judgement about you getting ‘out of it all’ by drinking to forget or ‘blot out’.

In the posts I see and read in the ‘recent posts’ list (I don’t read this thread); you contribute hugely to this thread with all the detailed research you do.

I don’t have any magic wand I can wave to make you feel any better about all the trauma in your life; other than some people who don’t even ‘know’ you actually care about you and your welfare….

Do you have your ‘own’ thread on this forum; where we can communicate separately?

    Take care
    Booxx

(Actually, just had a thought SAMM; perhaps if you read this whilst still a bit ‘squiffy’ – then I would suggest, in a way that is thinking of you; you postpone responding until you are fully compis mentis)

SAMM I am so sorry you feel down pal ,but as Jojo says there ARE people here who care . We will still be here when You want to chat again

    WEE xx

    Good evening fast trackers,

SAMM – it’s liquid sugar, you can live without it. You are strong and capable of saying no to alcohol. I am now 8 months into non drinking – it’s all good, please don’t let this lapse become anthing more. We care, we are here, we need your input, we look forward to your posts. Thinking of you – Jojo xx

Ply – I will find out what damage I have done to my weight tomorrow- wish me luck?
Folk week ended today, it’s been great. The performance using the spoons was great, we really enjoyed ourselves. Bruised legs and hands though, a little too much adrenalin I suppose.

Last concert was brilliant – but I am so looking forward to a lay in tomorrow. Really exhausted.

Weemam – you are doing so well. Tell us some tips!

It’s raining heavily again but I am not complaining because it was incredible weather today.

Ok guys – back on the job tomorrow – focus, focus, focus!

SAMM I hope you are feeling a wee bit stronger today Pal . xx
Jojo good luck for the weigh in . The spoons sound like great fun .

I am loving this WOL but I find it really hard to eat all the calories I need to . I never thought I would say that lol . I am using My fitness pal and that is great . I never have breakfast as when I eat I always have to run to the loo (IBS).
So when I eat at night I eat a lot but not as much as I am supposed to . I try to keep it as low carb as I can too . I feel so good in myself and my RA especially in my knees is so much better .
I am not going to beat myself up about the calories and Try to add a wee bit more when I can . I have always been a very greedy person and love that I am satisfied with a lot less now 🙂 . I will just keep on going on and be happy with this HAPPY WOL .

    Onwards and downwards all.

    WEE xx

SAMM, sending you strength and positive energy! One more demon for you to beat, but you can do it!
Jojo, I wish you all the luck on the scales! I am staying away for the time being until I have a few days of being on track. Like you, the past few weeks have been extremely busy, away from home and off my usual routine. Poor excuses, I know, but it is what it is. Back home now, and ready to get back to eating and exercising the way I now love!
Weemam, if you are feeling good and losing weight doing what you’re doing, I wouldn’t worry about the calorie count very much. If you feel the need to add more, a tablespoon of nut butter (I’m thinking whole nuts might aggravate IBS?) or some rich dark chocolate are high calorie but low bulk treats.
Spending the morning planning meals and food shopping for the next couple of weeks. Tonight I am going to see Jaws with my brother. I took him to see the movie when he was 7 years old and it scared the day lights out of him. Not only would he not go swimming, but he was afraid to flush the toilet for 2 years!!
    Have a great weekend, all.

    Good morning fast trackers,
Well the truth hurts, I am up 2.5 lbs on the beginning of July, so basically I have wasted 8 weeks of losing 2 lb per week, by my reckoning that is not good and puts my long term goal back by two months ARRGHH. Also my yoga holiday is 6 weeks away and I planned to be at least a stone lighter for it. So I have planned 4 : 3 and low carb between now and then. NO MORE EXCUSES!
On the plus side I now seem to fit into a size smaller, strange but true, size 16 – which for me I haven’t worn for nearly 25 years. I guess it’s all the walking and dancing I have been doing.
Also on a positive note I am still drinking lots of water, eating lots of berries, apples and oranges and not drinking alcohol or eating much bread( occasional treat when in a restaurant). So what has been the cause of my weight gain over the last week? Crisps, lattes, cheddar snacks, chips and even a chocolate bar – all food eaten on the run between activities. It has been a fun week but I have paid the price for being too busy too prepare my own meals. But as we all know quickly gained quickly lost – it will be gone by Monday as I am doing B2B today and tomorrow 500 cal maximum. Playing bowls both days and long dog walks planned.
I know Weeman is doing well but how are the rest of you getting on?
Ply and SAMM – speak to me – we are there for each other through this change of life remember. Supporting but not excusing.
P.s. The spoons performance went down a storm yesterday now I need to start work on my Jazz and Cockney nights. It’s all go here as usual.

    Replied before reading all…
Yes, Jojo, quickly gained and quickly lost! You are right about now having the good habits of water, low cal fruits, and exercise. Those are what will make maintenance a breeze once we are at goal. Good for you for wearing that smaller size!!
Use those spoons to keep the beat, not to eat!!

Jojo great news about getting into a smaller size . I am sure you will loose the weight you put on very quickly . You are so active I get tired just reading what you do .. I wish I still had that energy lol .
ply have fun at Jaws . I was laughing at what you said about your brother . Our middle son is 49 today and when he was little our eldest told him ,If you flush the toilet it comes off the floor and chases you . I think he ran a mile after flushing for years lol .
I have just came home from another lovely day out with my Dad . I think you all know he is 96 and has Alzheimers . He sings all the time he is a treat to be with .

have a good day all of you .

    Wee xx

Funny about your boys, Weemam! Growing up with 4 brothers and raising 2 sons, I know that sort of teasing well! Mine was just poor teenage decision-making. I suppose I should have known better at 15!
So nice that you are able to enjoy your dad!

    Good evening all,
Good day today, food wise anyway, just salad. Lost spectacularly at bowls, the opposing team were really good and we were mediocre by comparison. Let’s hope it goes better tomorrow afternoon.
Ok Ply it all sounds like a plan, here’s to next weigh in!
I think I will plan out each day too, it’s the best way.
Off to make some soup now, always handy to have some in the fridge.
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend?

    Was at doctor office yesterday.
Good news I’m fine, but I’ve only lost 49lbs not 62 like my scale at home Indicates.

Thanks for the support , I’ll beat it again. Its not really been my worst habit, it’s more of a weakness for it.
Somewhere in my mind I thought what could a six pack really do? And I made a friend that probably wouldnt have if not for the drinking. I let him see me struggling with it , and that we can still be friends when I quit drinking. I mean I work all night long sometimes for 12-14 hours if I want a beer. I want a beer. The problem is I can’t seem to stop , I just keep drinking till it’s all gone no matter how inebriated I get.

I’m back too planning for this months fat attack weeks.
    No beer!

Blueberries, red beans, broccoli , red sweet peppers, dark chocolate, coffee. Oat bran on feed day mornings.

I like to make the menus from scratch. Then go back and compare with past successful 4:3 week menus.

I’m going to be HEAVY on low glycemic index vegetables and no grains.

Adding sprints for exercise as my neck is still a pain in the neck when try to jump rope, but sprints are good anaerobic exercise to gain experience on for my feed day exercise.

So glad to hear from you, SAMM! Glad you are safe and sounding like yourself. Keep fighting the good fight, and do not minimize the problem or the struggle. xox

Good morning SAMM, Ply and Weemam,
Great to hear from you SAMM, we all have weaknesses, that’s how we gained too much weight. Self destruction is a problem, I think we just need to lose control every so often because it feels like a normal thing to do. We are socialising with friends who eat what they want and drink when they want, it makes us look boring and dull. But we know we are neither but I think we need to change our mindset and consider ourselves as professional athletes in training for a big race. If we want to win it we need to follow the advice of the coach (Michael) abstain from food two days per week and eat sensibly for the rest. If you can’t control the beer( in my case the bread) you may need to cut it out of your life or limit it to those bought when out for a meal (sad but true). Good luck my friend.
Well on the good news front I have lost 3/4 of a pound since yesterday. I have decided to weigh daily again. It may be compulsive but I have realised if I don’t I am good at ‘burying my head in the sand’ and not really working at this diet. Scales don’t lie(except yours SAMM but be proud 49 lbs lost it is some achievement, well done). Luckily my scales are accurate and agree with health centre scales which I use weekly too. I need to get back to recording on fitness pal too, I have been too busy and too lazy lately. My brain is saying if I haven’t recorded it I haven’t eaten it. Reality check guys.
Weather not looking too good today, not sure if bowls will be on this afternoon. Still loads to do at home if not. My daughter is ringing tonight (from New Zealand), she has finished her bungee jumping, canyon swing(upside down) and her para gliding, crazy girl- she loves it all. She has acquired vertigo issues for her troubles but thinks it will clear up in a few days, I hope so! I am glad I have chosen safer sports.
    Plans
Food choices this week – b/f – porridge with blueberries, lunch- homemade soup with breadsticks followed by fruit and fish/ salad or hot veg for dinner. No snacks and lots of water.
Activity – 2 hours per day minimum- steps count must reach 15,000.
Changes- although I love prawns I am limiting them to once per week as white fish more effective for weight loss mainly because I don’t use so much sweet chilli dressing. Also I think I am eating too many eggs – now cut to 4 per week from 7, I had begun to eat them as a snack.
Weemam- you don’t need to eat more calories to meet a set number, eat as little as satisfy you. My mother found she ate less than set target as she matured. She never gave up her milky drink at night though – I may try it tonight see if it helps me sleep, still suffering with hip pain, so irritating.
    Good Luck everyone

Good afternoon Ply ,SAMM, Jojo and everyone else .
SAMM so pleased to see you back with us pal . My weakness is ICE CREAM . Hubby can buy ice cream ,sweets etc and just have the one but I have to finish them . They keep calling to me ” eat me” so as Jojo says we are all fighting some kind of daemon . I am pleased you are back in the swing as they say.
Jojo your daughter must take her sports after you . I used to love cycling but can’t do that now with the RA . I keep pretty active though with looking after everyone and driving them where they need to be .
Yesterday I had the best fast ever and I feel so good today . Hubby and I have hoovered ,Steamed floors .cleaned bathroom and kitchen and I am going to polish the furniture . OHH!! and I went over to Ross house and cut his hair . ( 5 minute drive) . I am loving this WOL and thank you for all the support .

    WEE xx

I want to thank precocious boo boo to for offering her words of encouragement and supportaswell.

Theressome things I’ve learned since starting.

There are differences in foods , very subtle.
There’s health food that doesn’t help lose weight.
There’s fat loss food that doesn’t guard against cancer.
And there’s cancer fighting foods . If I were to point to which of those to eat on fast days it would be health food.
Then a mix of cancer fighters and fat loss foods on feed days.
The rule I read about was try to put one cancer fighting food Into each meal. And by the end of a year you’ll have tried to avoid or fight cancer over 1,000 times.

I’m also reading about when to exercise. Looks liketheresadifference. Between cardio and anaerobic exercise. It may be best to eat after exercise rather than before . However walking moderately has no difference if not at a fast enough pace to start sweating. Sorry for not referencing it. Butto eat 1-2 hours after exercise, to get the thermic boost to metabolism.

    Thanks SAMM,

I will put your theory to the test this week, exercise then eat, can do.

Lost at bowls again today, very frustrating.

    Hi Tartan lass

    Hi Tartan lass,

I thought I’d briefly catch up with you on this thread to thank you for your measured and reasonable response to the shenannigans (if that’s how you spell it) on the LOACA thread where I appear to have blotted my copybook and as a result feel it’s better to cease posting there.

It’s not like me to “jump ship”, as you put it, but I thought it wise to get out while the going was good. I’ve a lot of time for Scots and their no-nonsense approach as well as their kindness, both of which you seem to have in no small measure. One of my closest friends is Scottish and she is not only beautiful but wise beyond her years and was overwhelmed by the helpfulness of a bunch of Glaswegians when I was up there on a research project.

Whoops! sorry, I seem to have started this message twice. Must be my bedtime!

    Hi hermaj

How quickly things can go pear-shaped! As I said in my post to the LOACA thread, I felt I had entered a parallel universe.

Glad to find you here, although feel a bit of a fraud because I’m far too lazy to go for 2lb/week, I average 1kg (2.2 lbs) per month.

    Keep up the good work.

    Welcome NickyF and Hermajtomomi,
Actually several of us are having difficulty with our goal at the moment, social lives just too ‘full on’ during August. The 2 lbs per week is an aim not an entry requirement.
We would welcome your input here.

    Please tell us your stories.

What is your experience of 5:2?

I started out on the LOACA thread but found it too busy and too ‘laid back’ about our main objective. Long term dieting is such a difficult thing, I am only half way there after one year. On here we like to swap ideas and challenge long held theories about ‘how to lose weight’. Most of us do quite a lot of exercise but not necessarily full on aerobic, just basically anything that gets us out if an armchair and moving. I wear a pedometer daily and try to commit to 15,000 steps minimum, not too difficult as I have dogs to walk and classes to attend at the gym. My goal 10 stone by next March hence the 2 lb per week goal, 4 stone to go and two holidays between now and Christmas so .i have my work cut out. Currently on 4:3 to do some catching up on July and August which have been wipe outs, all parties and no focus.

SAMM, Ply, Weemam and I tend to do ‘low carb’ on non fast days too, this usually helps our diet. Fish, chicken and eggs plus vegetarian tends to replace meat dishes, just seems to work better irrespective of calorie count. We try to record calories on fitness pal to maintain focus but this of course is not in keeping with Michaels 5:2 plan, he was not facing big weight loss factor like some of us.

Good Luck to everyone, new week, new start. Be happy! It helps to have fun.

Good morning everyone ( evening to the southerners). Fast day number 9 can’t believe it … The past month has flown. My husband woke me at 5am leaving for a long drive to work today, I was less than impressed and growled at him as I lay there thinking I’m already hungry how will I last out the day?? But as I’ve learned the hunger doesn’t build it comes and goes which is manageable. I will admit to a drop of skimmed milk in my coffee I just can’t cope without it. Will hold off to late lunch 200 cal and have some lovely soup for later. I tried this pattern first couple of days and it seems to be ok for me. Not working so will hit the shops later for a little retail therapy. I’m feeling hopeful so don’t want to buy clothes at the moment- ii’ll be happy to get back into some in the ‘slightly slimmer’ section of my wardrobe.
Hermajitomomi – I’m glad you’ve had a good experience of Glaswegians. I’m originally from the west coast of Scotland but I studied in Glasgow and I love it and it’s people. We were lucky to attend a few events at the commonwealth games recently one of the highlights was the rugby sevens. We were at the early stages where there were some mismatched ‘david and Goliath’ type games. The crowd was fantastic and gave some of the players the night of their lives – when Uganda managed to score one try against the mighty Australia the roof nearly came off!!
Best wishes to all- stay strong!!
