  • I started 5:2 this Monday gone, it’s going well, yay! 🙂 I cannot seem to find any info or experience stories from women in their 20’s who are doing the diet. I have no idea what the timeline is like for someone in this age bracket, there’s no info online really. I don’t even have myself to compare to because I’ve just started. If anybody can shine a light and share their stories or friends stories? I’m so inspired by all of you on this and would love some stats to mull over 🙂

Hey, Aily 🙂 I started the diet yesterday, I’m precisely 20 🙂 I don’t think I want to lose much, since I’m about 5’4 and I weigh 125 pounds, so I’m at a healthy weight, I only have those few vanity pounds… 😉 I also work out, I do Focus T25 and… well, I can’t say anything yet except that we can do the diet together 🙂 Today is my fasting day, and to tell you the truth – I’m not even hungry 🙂 I didn’t stuff my face yesterday either, I just ate normally. 🙂

Hey! I’m 20 too , and i started the diet on Monday last week. Today was my 3rd fast day and it went great. I got about 44lbs to lose, so loong way to go, as I’ve told everyone , slowly but surely is my way of doing this.Last week I lost about 1.5lbs, not a huge number but I’ve lost something and it’s just the start. Like Sashka said I don’t feel hungry on fast days either… it’s kinda weird cause I tought I’d be starving but thankfully I’m not 😀
I don’t know how much you have to lose but you can do it and plus more! 🙂
Good luck and keep us posted!! 🙂

Im 20 also and i will be starting this diet tomorrow i have about 65lbs to lose if anyone has any helpful tips please let me know

Hey, Carly 🙂 The best tip I have is – be patient and keep it positive.Focus on how far you’ve come every single week and be proud of yourself for deciding to take this up. Don’t think of it as a diet, think of it as a change in your lifestyle, something you can keep up for the rest of your life. Don’t be scared of the fasting days, they’re honestly not bad. And if you feel hungry, just think of how tomorrow you can eat whatever you want 🙂

    Hi all 🙂

I’m 24, and have been on the fast diet for 5 weeks now.

I have about 80lbs to lose, and so far I’ve lost 23lbs. I have been doing 4:3 the past 4 weeks, and swimming/walking to work.

I’m still loving it, it works!!

The fast diet forums are amazing if you need motivation, or like me LOVE reading about others’ success 😀 Good luck!! Nice to meet some people in the same age bracket!

Hiya 🙂 Im 23 and have up on 100lbs to lose…grim thought but im motivated to make 5:2 work for me. Ive been doing it for just over a week and lost 11lb in my first week! I know the numbers wont remain that big but every little helps 🙂 Good Luck!

    Hi:

11 pounds in week one is pretty impressive.

This will give you an idea of what you might reasonably expect to lose going forward: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

    Good Luck!

    Hi!
I am a 21 year old from NZ starting out on this diet 🙂
I’m only starting properly this week so couldn’t help you with a story of experience quite yet I’m afraid!
I’m hoping to lose around 15Kg but maybe up to 20kg if I feel necessary as I just realised 15kg isn’t physically as big of a difference as I thought ha!
    How about you? 🙂
    Maddy

Hello everyone, I’m 26 years old and also on 5:2 – I wasn’t sure how many others were of a similar age.

I am looking to lose in total around 30 pounds. (or just over two stone). I have been doing it since Jan 13 and lost 8 pounds in my first four weeks. I’ve stopped weighing myself for a bit as I became to obsessed with weighing myself and would allow my mood to be too dictated by the scales.

I will be really happy to hit the one stone mark weight loss mark, hopefully it comes around soon.

    Good luck everyone!

Hey guys im 26 and just started the 5:2 plan. I also am seeing it a lifestyle change to alter my bad food habits and get out of the yoyo dieting trap and food obsessions. Im 5’6 and 133lbs so dont have masses to lose but I wanna lose a few pesky pounds and keep them off! 🙂

I only checked this now, I abandoned my post!! It’s so wonderful to hear from all of you and reading all your replies has given me some positive affirmations 🙂 I have about a stone and a half , 22 lbs approx to lose. I’m not weighing at all coz I’ll go cray if I have scales at my disposal. The tape will be my teller. So I’m 12 days in today, I’m measuring on st Patricks day and then I’ll update you guys on my measurements. My tight jeans that nip and scrunch my belly are now so loose that I can shove both my hands down there to quite a bit above my wrists! (no funny business) Loose as fook 😀

    Hi AilyB,
I have no right to post here as I am a whole half century! But I love your style and couldn’t help myself!! Good luck with continued weight loss!!
    Cheers from an ‘old bird’

Hi I just started the fast diet today-I find it easier to eat the 500cal for breakfast and then fast the rest of the day!think a lot of this is about mindset and keeping yourself busy-sometimes hard to do!lol

Haha Freefalling thanks and I’m fairly sure you have the right to post where ever you please 😉 I’m going to continue measuring myself in how much of my arms I can fit down my pants.

Thinlizzy I find I’m so changeable on fast days. Somedays I’ll go from 9am til 5 or 6 pm then I’l have some cottage cheese and a little almond milk to juzz me up a bit. Then one day I’ll eat around 1.5ltrs low calorie homemade soup throughout the day with loads of cayenne pepper.

I do want to do a fast of just water for a day to see how that feels. I’m interested to see what the motions would be for me personally.

Hi everyone I’m (not quite) twenty and am looking to looses 30lb so the same as little dragon! First fast day is on Friday! I’m glad there are people my age doing this too 🙂

Hi I’m 21 and have been doing this diet for 2 months. In all honesty I’ve lost 2ib, my goal is 30ib (2 stone). Which is massivly dissapointing. However, i’ve started exercising regularly which I think may contribute to the slow weight loss. My advice… Throw the scales away. My clothes feel better and for me when I can walk on the beach and feel comfortable in a bikini that’s when I know I’ve hit my goal. The scales are just numbers and although i have had days where I’m like *#@$ this what’s the point, I do enjoy it, I just hope I start seeing results before the summer!!! 🙂

Hi Bethany, hopefully we’ll all have crazy good results to compare in the future 🙂
Missmotivated I don’t weigh myself either, I don’t own a scales and I don’t plan to get one! Clothes are definitely the best way to go

Hello all – just reporting in with my progress – I weighed last week and after 8 weeks of 5:2 I have lost 13 pounds. Really happy with the progress and hoping for another successful four weeks.

I have set myself a goal of another pound to take me to a stone from the starting weight in two weeks.

Then would love to lose another 7 pounds from end of March to beginning of May. Ultimately I want lose two stone.

    Happy fasting!

I’m 22 and I’ve still got quite a bit to lose. I’ve done 2 weeks of 5:2 (week 3 is today!) and I’ve lost just under 5 pounds already. I’ve been unable to lose weight for about a year now, I’ve stayed right at 255 no matter what I was doing and the scale is finally starting to move again. I’ve been big my whole life – even at 255, I weigh less than I did in high school so I’m happy to lose any weight.

My “goal” is 180 – I don’t really care what the scale says as long as I feel good. I’m a really healthy person despite being overweight but I asked my doctor what weight I should aim for and he suggested 180. Seems reasonable enough.

5:2 is easy enough, I can tell this may be my final weight loss adventure. I can see myself doing 5:2 for a very very long time, even into maintenance. It feels good. <3

Glad to hear you’re having a positive experience with 5:2 kirstygee 🙂 I agree with your outlook on the whole thing, it’s hard not to be positive when you see it working AND the maintenance plan is so simple that this easily can be adjusted into anybodies lifestyles

    Hi everyone!

I am a 21 year old from London, starting the 5:2 diet today – my first fasting day! I have done so many diets (and failed) and recently my weight has creeped up quite a bit. I am 5’2 and 9 Stone 5lbs (131lbs) and want to lose around 21 pounds. I have a question for you girls about how much you eat on the feast days – Do you calorie count? I checked and my TDEE is 1575 and my BMR is 1307, which do I eat? After years of eating 1200 calories trying to diet, I am worried I have ruined my metabolism and that with that many calories I will gain weight rather than lose! Help!

    Hi all,

It’s great to see some other girls in their 20s on the 5:2 diet and well done to you all for your progress so far.

I started the diet on Monday and have just done my second fast day, so far so good. I want to lose about a stone as my big target but my first target is to break under the 9 stone 6lbs mark which I always seem to get stuck on.

My problem is that I can eat extremely healthy but I always seem to give up just after the two week mark and sabotage all my good work. I’ve never posted on forums before but I’m hoping that updating my progress on here will help me to stay motivated.

I don’t usually weight myself on scales but I will do after the first two week mark so I’ll post an update then.

    Good luck everyone!

    Good Morning,

Hope all of you in UK are enjoying the fabulous change in weather 🙂 !! I’m 22 year old from London, and studying in London, and have been in desperate need to sort myself out. When I started trying to lose weight 3 years ago, I was 12st 8lbs (78kg) and 5ft7in tall. I managed to get down to 11st 4lbs, just through smaller plate sizes and cutting out snacking. However, I reached a plateau for months, I just couldn’t mentally get into the zone to make any more changes and I was content enough on that weight, but ideally wanted to lose another stone. It backfired, big way, instead of losing weight, with uni work, stress, Christmas, one too many take outs etc, I put on just under a stone to take me to 12st 1lb. 🙁
Now I am trying the 5:2 diet to see if I can shift, permanently, my view of food, still enjoy it but without needing as much to do so. Also to decrease my habit of snacking on sugary foods. I want to get down to around 10st between this and walking more (and possibly going to the gym as well :P). Having started on Thursday (3 days ago) I have to say it looks promising!!
Good Luck!! And thank you for making a forum for 20 somethings…so nice to know not alone in our age range!! 😀

Hi ladies! Lovely to hear from so many people in their 20s!

On Monday I’ll be at the 8 week mark, and I have to say I’m really enjoying the fast diet way of life.

I’ve had to throw out some very tempting “healthy” crisps because I found I was totally binging on them! They are definitely my downfall. Those and WW Jaffa cake bars. They’re gone too! *sob!

I still have a lot to lose, but I am now 32lbs down from my starting weight. I don’t know why or how it’s working so well but I’m not questioning it.

Missmotivated- I have seen lots of stories of weight loss being slow at beginning. I’m sure things will kick start soon. I think your attitude is inspiring though! And if your clothes feel good, something’s working 🙂

Chocoholic – I don’t calorie count on normal days, but I eat very sensibly, and usually keep to 1300 or less. This is quite a bit under what is recommended for me, and my metabolism seems to be working fine. But everyone’s different. I know there are some great posts about tdees and bmr on the forums.

Happy fasting chaps, good luck 🙂

Hiya! I’m 24, planning to start tomorrow. Trying to shift about 15lbs. I have some very tight jeans I’d like to fit into again…

My co-worker has been doing 5:2, and was telling me about how much energy she has, and how it’s encouraged her to make healthier choices.

So I’m looking forward to feeling energetic, I guess? Think I might need some encouragement at times though!

    Hi everyone,

    I’m 26 and starting today!!!

I’ve got around 40 pounds to lose, have previously lost weight with a well known slimming club, but it’s not sustainable if you actually want to enjoy your life, I’ve ended up putting back on the best part of a stone 🙁 Know a couple of people who have had incredible results with the 5:2, so have decided to give it a go, am hoping it will result in far more sensible and healthy relationship with food.

Was just wondering, is it best to do the fast days together or spilt them up over the week? Any advice would be much appreciated! Got all the books to read, so fingers crossed this is the start of a whole new healthier and happier me!!

Good luck to everyone, and thanks for making a group for people of a similar age!!! 🙂

Heya, how is everyone doing? Just finished the first fast – definitely not as bad as I thought!

@jjrose, re: together or apart, I think you can do whatever you feel is easier for you? I don’t think I’d be able to cope with 2 in a row, but there are probably some people that do. Good luck!

    Hi everyone!

I am 21, started the 5:2 back in November 2013. I weighed 70.2kg back then (I am 5ft 6 or 168cm) and fairly quickly lost about 10kg by the end of the year…which is 22lb!

I have actually struggled to keep to the fasting days this year, what with socialising and people always wanting to go for dinner on fast days (!) but surprisingly I have managed to maintain my current weight pretty well and I am about 61kg now… I really think the 5:2 has reset my metabolism and my general approach to food…

I really want to shift another 4-5kg or so for summer so I am back on the fast days now! I am hoping to lose 4kg in about 8 weeks, so 1lb or so a week 🙂

Good luck to all the other 20-something ladies, I will check in here regularly!

    G xx

@georgiam wow that’s great, well done! And good luck x

Thanks @eskimogirl , def think I’m going to break the fast days up. At least to start with anyway. Need to just figure out which days work best for me 🙂 Planning to have my first fast day tomorrow so hopefully it will go ok!

Congrats @georgiam that’s amazing. So great to hear from someone who’s had such positive results. Def keeps you on focused and on track when you hear about other peoples results.

Hope it’s going well for everyone 🙂

I’m 23 and I’m starting this tomorrow; the day is almost over for me. I have 10+ pounds to lose and I’m going back home to see my family in 2 months. Hopefully this helps get me where I want to be in the time frame I have.

    Hey everyone!
I’ve been on this for exactly a month now and I’ve lost 4.5kg (about 9.9lbs) and I feel great! I have a loooong way to go but I’m so happy about the numbers so far 🙂
Keep up the good work guys!

Hi! Just thought I would post a quick update as I have now been following the 5:2 diet for just over a week and I am very happy to announce I have lost 5lbs! YAY! I am so happy as for the last three/four months I have been yoyoing between losing 2lbs and gaining it back and now I am down a whole 5lbs – Happy days! I still have about 15lbs to lose still but now I feel well on my way.

@treat89 Thank you for the advice. I am trying to eat as sensibly as possible and staying below 1500 calories!

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

    @jjrose Hope it went well!

@jnc1090 Good luck. (I hope you’ll see some other benefits too!)

@husky @chocoholic266 Wow, well done guys!

Hi from South Africa! I am 24, and have been following 5:2 since the beginning of Feb. This way of eating has set me free, as I hated the constant feeling of deprivation other diets have left me with. Over the last month and a half I have lost 2kg (4 pounds). I have about 6kg I still want to lose, but feel satisfied with the loss thus far. The weight loss is slow, but just keep going! I am enjoying not excluding any food groups and feel much less obsessed with food than I was before.

Hey guys, I said I’d post on Patrick’s Day to reveal my measurements but didn’t get around to it.

Here are my results after my 4 – 5ish weeks!

    Waist 1.5 inches lost
    Neck .5 inches lost
    Thighs .5 inches each lost
    Neck .5 inches lost
    Hips .7 inches

Oh and im 5ft 3 inches

I’m fairly pleased with my results, my clothes feel a hell of a lot looser and I have a load of new found energy to boot 🙂

I’m still wondering if I can physically lose 5 inches on my waist like some people are born with thick waists.. I want to prove this idea in my head wrong.
How are all of you doing? 🙂

Hi my names Paula I’m 26 yrs old I’m from New Zealand I my perfect weight is 69kgs at the moment I’m weighing in at around 80kgs
I first herd about the 5:2 fasting when I watched
the documentary on discovery that Michael was in. 2013
    I couldn’t believe my eyes

Hi! My name is Alex, I turned 20 in December and am reeeaaaally keen on the 5:2 diet! I have to say that I love the motivated spirit that reigns here 🙂 Such an inspiration!

I don’t weigh myself as I’d rather measure – and I find it way more motivating, as the results don’t fluctuate in the same way that weigh-ins often do.
I’ve got quite a bit of bulk to shift – and I’m DEAD SET on being a fit and fabulous 21 year old when I hit that mark on 5 December! I want to lose 17 cm in my waist just to mention one goal, so I have my work cut out… 😉

Did my first fast day today (497 calories) – and it’s been surprisingly easy. I normally graze a lot (especially in the eve) but it was a breeze sticking to my water and flicking through my ‘Fast Diet’ book while my Mum snacked on peanuts… She’s joining me on Wednesday.

Hope you’re all doing well! X

    Hi all,

My name is Amanda and I’m 28 and just starting out with 5:2, have about 14 to 18lbs to lose so combining the 5:2 with exercise (keen runner and love gym classes) hoping in 6 months time to get there 🙂

I generally find I eat when tired, not because I’m hungry so any tips gratefully received! Also anyone in Hampshire (UK)?

    Amanda x

Hi! I did my first fast today!! I got pretty hungry but otherwise went well I have been looking into this for a while! I am from Sydney, Aus so I am about to go into Autumn/winter when I always tend to overeat out of bordem. I have about 5kg to lose, I am pretty active, and try to go to the gym 4-5 times a week but haven’t seen my weight shift or get toned so I thought I would give this a crack!
Amanda I drink lots of tea, so if you are not sure if you are really hungry – try herbal teas, chai is my fav!!

I just made myself sad. I happily clicked to read this topic, then remembered it’s been quite a while since I was in my twenties!! 🙁

    Hello everyone!

Just thought I’d check in, I’ve lost 2lb so now 60kg, 3kg to go until I hit target! I have been naughty and only fasted last week, so I’m very pleased I’m managing to maintain the loss… Have been shopping recently for summer clothes and it is so so strange to have to try on the size 8/small/extra small, I sort of just feel the same although everyone has said how different I look…

A few people have asked about timelines whilst in your 20s, I’d say the younger you are generally the easier it is to shift the weight, for every fast day I do I seem to lose 1lb, so around about 2lb a week on 5:2, maybe a little less.

Hope that helps, feel free to ask any questions! 🙂 G xx

Hello everyone! I’m also in my 20’s (just turned 24)I also started my 5:2 journey in February! And honestly I could not be happier, besides the weight loss, it’s just incredible how much my appetite has changed, I don’t crave sugary and fattening foods anymore, and I had a serious sweet tooth!; the only time I get cravings is about 2 weeks before my period, but other than that, all I can say that the benefits go way beyond weight loss!. There have been times were I haven’t lost any weight, but I really don’t care anymore since the health benefits are still there!! Just wanted to share my story because i’ve struggled with my weight for about 5 years and this is the only thing that has helped in more than one way! So keep going at it ladies, it’s sooo worth it!!

Haha kitsix – me too!! Maybe we should start a thread – “Ladies who wish they’d known about 5:2 in their 20s” – What you reckon?

    Hi!

I’m 28 and started the 5:2 about a month ago after everyone at work doing it and a doctor colleague of mine fully encouraging it. Now I weighed myself yesterday and hadn’t lost a sausage! (Literally) I was so close to jacking it all in when it was suggested to me that I have a look on this forum for advice as my doctor friend said shed NEVER heard of anyone not loosing any weight on the 5:2. I got the best responses and wanted to share them just incase u lovely people end up in the same boat as me. The mantra on a feast day is eat WHAT you want but not as MUCH as you want – not something I was previously living by. Also diet coke. I’m addicted to the stuff! 0 cals has got to be a winner. Incorrect. Apparently ur body still recognises the sweetner as sugar and still produces insulin which is bad. I am currently going cold turkey on the stuff. Also sometimes it takes longer for your body to reach a tipping point where u actually start dropping weight. So measuring is always best! I’m currently struggling with the idea of throwing away my scales but from the sound of it it’s the way forward. Also I have been advised to try and stick to your tdee on feast days. Not to the dot but around abouts. Mines around 1600 cals.
I think also when u start the 5:2 you maybe get in the mind frame of uve got to fill up on feast days to get through the fast days. I think when u beat these obstacles ull be well on ur way. However the most positive thing is that I’ve stuck to a diet for a month! No cheating as with usual diets! That for me is an achievement in itself! Good luck everyone I love reading all your success’s

    Hi @laurac85!

Really interesting post – especially about diet coke! Will definitely be phasing that out of my regular “diet”! And good on you for sticking to it for a month! Hope you’ll see some results soon…

I’ve been doing this since 31st March – so well over a week now and I’m loving it! Dropped 6 pounds in the first week, and people are already telling me I look different. And I really do feel different.

Honestly, I think it’s because it isn’t just a “diet”. It is a health boost to fast this way! I’ve been sleeping MUCH better than I used to: I’d have trouble falling asleep and I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed until at least noon – and wouldn’t even feel well-rested! Now I jump out at 8 am and go for a run! And I just feel better over-all!

How about all of you? Can you tell a difference in your general well-being?

    Alexa X

    Hey guys,

I’m at the 3month mark now! Still fasting, although I’ve had some binge-y moments (that’s putting it politely, raiding and eating the fridge is more like it). But thanks to fasting, I haven’t gained any weight, just maintained at times. I’m now 40lbs down.

How are you guys doing? An update would be lovely!

    Tracey

    Hey everyone!

Great reading all of your posts on how everything is going.

I’m 26 and have been on the 5:2 for 6 weeks now. Was reluctant to weigh at first but have weighed today on the gym scales and I’ve lost half a stone! I really can’t believe it, but so happy. I agree with a lot of you ladies on here that I feel that I have more energy, and I can feel my attitude to food changing.

I’m a student midwife and go back to placement in a couple of weeks so really hope I can keep it up through that, although I think it will be a challenge.

    Laura
