  • Day 2 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Goodness what a busy thread – 127 registered so far WOW!

Went to a Jazz evening with friends last night featuring Geoffrey Keezer (piano) and Gillian Margot (vocals) – brilliant night of excellent piano and vocals with good company and wine!

Had a lovely walk with my usual Friday walking group this morning and despite rain being forecast we had a lovely dry morning and enjoyed being out on the fells in our beautiful county!

Today was going to be a FD but had yet another early birthday lunch surprise with friends – what else can a girl do? This week I have only been able to do 1 x FD as various friends have surprised me with adhoc lunch/morning tea to celebrate my birthday – I decided just to go with the flow and then firmly press my RESET button on Monday with a FD – Tomorrow is actually my birthday and DD has asked that I be ready to be picked up at 1130hrs…….?????
I see we have a birthday today @paulmarsh – Hope you are having a fab day 🎁and as others have said please make sure you stay healthy!

@strawberriesandcream – thank you for the link to the spreadsheet – great job between you and @pissupoosa getting it out to us so early into the challenge

@triplet – being in NZ you are usually one of the first to post each day. As has been said by others try to ignore the jealous comments and remember that this is your journey and you are doing it for you and no one else – am so glad to see that you have regrouped and have joined us again 🤗
@pashaw – is your daughter travelling with friends? I know it’s hard but they have to fly the nest and find their way in life at some stage – As others have said she can stay in touch via Facebook, Skype and FaceTime and she can share her journey with you. I do understand how you feel – I still remember when DD went to Grenoble University for an elective year out of her studies – I suspect you need this 🤗
@pamelav – nice to see you here again – good to hear that you have been lurking in the background and keeping with this WOL with great success – 👍within 5lbs of target
@redrockgirl302 – welcome back – fab time in Europe by the sounds of it and 💃for no weight gain during those 6 weeks – go you!
@happymargo – Hope the Crohn’s disease starts settling down soon and that you can start weaning off the steroids – Take care of yourself and we are here for you – HUGS
@lindasue – you and I can support each other this month in being mindful in our maintenance journey – I certainly do not want to get complacent either!
@bert1802 – what a great post on Day 2 – very motivating and so realistic – anyone new to the challenge please read – as Bert says “This WOL, works so well is because it is adjustable – It’s about balance” It is nice to see the “old Bert” back!

I have now caught up with all the posts and have enjoyed “meeting” all the “newbies” to the group and seeing all those from previous challenges – we are truly a global group here! some inspiring stories and some great weightloss already and love the commitment to joining this WOL!

Some general advice to anyone new – Try to see 5:2 as a WOL and not a “Diet” – There is no need to make special meals for you – try to eat what the family is having e.g. my OH loves a crab pasta dish I make – if I’m fasting that day I have a smaller serve of the sauce with courgetti and put less olive oil in the sauce than normal and it’s a great FD meal for me of around 300cals! Miss out on the carb element of the meal and it will cut down the calories enormously!

I look forward to our journey on this June 2017 30 Day Challenge – TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!

2d post. @coda thank you for the information about the spreadsheet. I’m not sure that I really want to do that and I like the tracker. I find the spreadsheet so big and unwieldy or perhaps my mind just doesn’t function as well using those kinds of tools. That being said it seems like a lot of people do really like it. I tried to follow and use it in March. Since then it’s just not worth this well for me. So I don’t know if it’s better for me not to join the challenges, if I’m not going to keep up my part on the spreadsheet or if I can still be in the challenge but not be on the spreadsheet. I don’t want to make it difficult for people who are using it. I just find the tracker a lot simpler to use.

I love this site and I love seeing the post and sharing my little tidbits. I don’t post as frequently as many others but I do read through them and feel connected to all of you.

    Day 2: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD
Not really planning to start until I come back from my holiday on 16th.

    2nd post

    @sirisan – please stay with us 🤗
There is no need to join in on the spreadsheet – it is there for those who like that sort of thing and not essential to being part of the challenges!

Curious if anyone else on here follows a LCHF or ketogenic WOE? I feel a little awkward thinking about posting anything about what I eat, b/c to many folks following a low-fat and whole-grain and plenty of fruit WOE I sound crazy. Thought it might help me to know if there are particular folks eating similarly to me when I post about food ideas or questions, etc.

Day 2 Lancaster, PA, USA FD
@strawberriesandcream and @pissupoosa Thank-you for getting the Spreadsheet together for June’s Challenge Group!✨
In case anybody doesn’t have the link @strawberriesandcream posted it…. here it is again.😊
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SLq0JjjWe8jvsiubsJSS8owJ-qYfGYtY1ceZPkWphLM/edit#gid=0

Yesterday evening I was wide awake at 2:30 am, this morning.
Has anybody else experienced kombucha keeping you awake at night after drinking it in the early afternoon?
That’s got to be it. I did everything I normally do to help sleep and yet I was wide awake. I told myself chocolate would make it better… But did it really? It did relax my muscles a bit so I could finally relax and go to sleep. So yesterday’s 360 calorievFD turned into a 761 calorie NFD.
So far today only probiotic dairy drink of 80 cals.
Vegetable with steakbone broth of 150 cals planned for evening meal. So far FD l👀ks g👀d today😊
@sirisan I see many people in the group are in agreement with you and don’t choose to post on the spreadsheet… That is Ok 👌 and I’m very glad to have you and others continuing on together in the group. The beauty of our group is we each do what works for us in our own way …. Giving and receiving support along the way. Please continue on with us! I love to see your posts!✨
✨✨I’m looking forward to more to read today!✨
@rerunirret I make the green vegetable stew with bone broth so as to have the protein, vitamins from the veggies and the bone with some steak on the bone for flavor. That and grilling zucchini, squash onions and eggplant have been helping to eat more protein and less carbs for the past week. The beauty of this group is that we have many variations of the FD’s and NFD’s, when we share others will be able to share similarities. There are quite a few people here who are on the ketogenic diet. When we do a water Fast after the 1st day all of our bodies are in ketosis. I was just reading about the ketogenic diet and what to do to help prevent insomnia while on the ketogenic diet. So please share your experiences and daily food when you feel comfortable.✨I try not to eat any carbs on FD’s. I read that yogurt if it is under 25 grams of carb will be ok. I had heard before no carbs at all in order to stay in ketosis. I also read you need some carb to transport healthy amino acids like tryptophan for serotonin in your body. For a few days, a week no carbs at all, but maybe not a life plan.✨ Please share your experiences
    ✨Together we are Stronger.✨

    @at ✨🎉Wishing you an Early ✨ 🎶 🥂🎂Happy Birthday!🎁🎉 http://www.hummingbird-guide.com/images/stargazer-lily.jpg

    ✨Keep on Keeping on!
    Ever onward and Downward!✨✨🤝✨✨

    Day 2, Germany, NFD

@strawberriesandcream and @pissupoosa thanks for the spreadsheet. As I’m just trying to stay below 54 kg this month it’s nice to have place to add my days. Don’t want to count calories or use the tracker anymore, will weigh myself only once a week now. I’ll see if it works this way.

@chumi 6 years ago we moved to the small town we’re living in now. We tried ballroom here, it didn’t work out. We want to dance at the level we were used to, they don’t do that overhere, we do miss it. My husband found a running partner in our neighbour, I work out at home and now I’m having my ballet-class once a week. In a few years we want to retire, then we’re moving back to the south of the Netherlands, we’re househunting already, we love househunting, we also like moving house, a nightmare for most people, we enjoy it.

Day 2– Colorado USA– very low calorie Controlled Day

Still limited diet during my Crohn’s flare-up. But thoroughly enjoying homemade bone broth & smooth, blended soups!
One of my Favs is creamy asparagus-cauliflower-potato soup. Delicious, loaded with nutrients & satisfying!! 🍵

    3rd post

A quick check in before heading out to an evening of Ceroc with OH. 300 posts already and onto page 7! Lots of great stories and advice.

@steffieagle and @krisnia – you’re welcome and you’re right about the interactive spreadsheet – for those who want to track details it’s great and a major timesaver for the monthly host. I love reading and responding to posts and can spend my time doing that.
    @shaninia – great start!
@anna6 – welcome, I’ve added you to the spreadsheet if you wish to use it.
@bert1802 – great to see you back in the groove my friend with lots of advice for newbies.
hahaha @fivetwofan5252 – I know I’m a bit slow on the uptake at times, but I honestly didn’t get the significance of your user name until you explained it to us – doh!!
Welcome back @RedRockGirl1302 – glad you had a great trip and happily stayed on track foodwise.
@sirisan – the spreadsheet is totally discretionary. If it’s not for you that’s absolutely fine. Your involvement and support for others is far more important.
@basyjames – sorry I missed you, your name is certainly on my written list, but didn’t make it onto the spreadsheet – thanks @coda for helping out there.

Ok, off out now, planning to dance off some more fat cells. Have a good rest of your day/night.

    Day 2, Montreal, NFD

    Hello everyone,

I’m going to need a bit of help and advice here cos I think I’m now starting to be in the so-called “plateau” in loosing weight. This is my 7th week on 5:2 and in the first 6 weeks I lost a total of 7.5 kg (more than 1 kg per week) and I was feeling very happy with that. So for this June challenge I set a goal of 4 kgs (which is actually the remaining of my global goal), but it’s day 2 and I think I won’t reach that goal.

The reason I think I won’t hit my goal is because I weight myself every morning before shower and I see how my weight fluctuates (although for weight tracking purposes I only write down my weight on Mondays), and so far, the day after a FD, I usually lose about 1.5 kg (and then slowly gaining a bit on my NFD so at the end of the week my total lost is a bit more than 1 kg). But this week, the day after my FD I’ve only lost about 0.5 kg, so on my NFD and easily regaining that weight lost 🙁

Two things to note here is that this first 7.5 kg I’ve lost so far have been the “extra weight” I’ve put in the last year or so, and now I’m in my more normal weight (only a couple of times in my life I’ve been on around 72 which is my goal), so I can imagine that my body is thinking “oh great, we’re back at our normal weight” and stops burning fat. The other thing is that I’ve started to exercise a bit more and I have the feeling that maybe and gaining muscles weight, could that be possible?

Anyway, I’m not going to give up with my 5:2. I take the advice of many of you and I’m not going to get obsessed about losing weight and just make this my WOL.

Thank you all for your support and thanks again to @Strawberriesandcream for organizing the challenge!

    Thanks!

    Day 2 (2nd post)

Hopped on scales just for fun… knew the number would make no sense. Just curious.
My prednisone meds have stuck a solid 12 lbs of retention on me! 😧 Whoa!

My feet & ankles are so swollen I can’t get any shoes on! So I zipped into Target to snap up 2 pairs of cheap $1.99 floppy-floppies. Aaahhhh! Sweet relief!
Now I need to paint my toenails to make my puffy little piggies look less like giant bear paws 😁

I’m not at all worried about the scale for the next 2 months as I taper off this med. The number will just be nonsense. So I’m setting other “ACTION GOALS” instead.

1– Back to Basics of 5:2. Commit to 2 full FDs each week. Once I start it, no bailing out & pretending “I’ll just do this tomorrow.” That’s just a lie I tell myself. Commit to the day & be strong!

2– Fitness: Lift weights/ strength train 3x/ week. Walk or run my doggy daily. Ride bikes with OH on weekend. Make it FUN!

3– Banish the horrible stuff that attacks my fragile gut: No wheat, no gluten, no processed refined sugars. No excuses!

4– continue to stay clear of my biggest addiction: Diet Coke. Finally kicked that to the curb (after many, many relapses) and want this time to be permanent!

Before putting anything in my mouth, stop & ask myself,
“WILL THIS GET ME CLOSER TO MY GOALS?”

    Day 2, USA, NFD
Finally got the 5 lbs. off that I gained last weekend while out of town on a trip just in time to leave for another weekend. I am going to try to be better this time!

    Day 2 – Mexico City – NFD

First NFD after two FD back to back. I feared that I would be ravenous, but the hunger seems to be under control. Exercising with the 8fit app, has anyone here tried it in combination with the 5:2? Would be good to know your experience.

FD UK Glasgow ITS SCORCHING!!! Scale advised 80.4 kg today and am currently in huff with it 😛

Back from a short evening walk managed to clock in 10km plus walking today and am very pleased with it. Plan is to keep this going I usually clock in minimum 6 -8km on my walk to work commute but feel and sleep better if I do 10 plus.

Feeling good I missed this mental clarity feeling when fasting and am over the moon I am back to this. Tomorrow walk with a friend planned last time out wee catch up took 18km hoping to get similar result. I need to fit in a first post half marathon run somewhere on sat prolly early am once I ll have something nice for breakfast. I still haven’t decided what I want. Off to have relaxing bath and re read Thin For Life by Anne M. Fletcher a book someone on here recommended and I love it to bits.

    Still day 2 –

@fatveganchickslims – What does “in haff with it” mean? Perhaps in agreement with?

My vocabulary keeps getting stretched around this global group. Love it!

    Forgot to post yesterday 😱
    NFD today. In Ayr
2nd week into fasting and Weighed myself today after 4 fasts over the 2 weeks and 4 pound off !!
    Feel montvated ! Lol xx

Oops I meant motivated xx lol

    day 2–ma, usa, fd
    day1–ma, usa, fd

    Day 3/NFD/Melbourne Australia

My son and his gorgeous family are coming to dinner. I’ll be cooking the food they love and enjoying sharing it with them. As @bert and @at advise thats the beauty and flexibility of this WOE.

    Love our global language lessons.
@happymargo‘s floppy-floppies. Are they the same as thongs (Australia), jangles (NZ), flip flops (UK)?

Thanks for the spreadsheet @ pissupoosus and @strawberriesandcream

Lovely to see you ‘back’ @bert

    Enjoy today

2nd posts from the too hot to soon Florida…..

Thank you everyone for the welcome backs!
It really feels nice to be back to my old self….. hopefully, I’ll stick around for a while. The other me is such a bore!

Date day and grocery shopping are going very well, spent way to much money but it should last us at least two weeks….. Well unless the boys go into a hungry spurt and eat all of it in one day!

We had a nice lunch and my favorite coffee after wards and we’ll have a nice dinner of fish later on!

Well, I’m off! I’m gonna make a nice dessert for after dinner…… healthy of course!

Surely, NOT everyone was Kung-fu fighting?

    Day 1 – CARDIFF UK – NFD
    Day 2 – CARDIFF UK – NFD

    Starting Weight : 154.7lbs
    Target Weight : 148.7lbs

I wasn’t able to weigh myself yesterday, so have had to take today as the starting weight for the challenge, although it probably is up a little.

Thankfully my OH was discharged from hospital today have been in for a couple of days with dangerously low potassium, but corrected with 4 litres of IV. I slept on a chair beside him the first night, but had to go home last night and that was difficult, especially going back at 9.30 this morning to find him in tears. He really has had enough of hospitals and is used to having me on hand to help him 24/7, something which an overstretched NHS can’t compete with. I do find it difficult though when I have to get permission to be able to go in out of usual visiting hours to help him as I get such different responses from the nurses every time. When I’m there he is calm, will drink and will eat because I’m there to help him. He struggles to communicate and is too embarrassed to admit if he can’t understand something but his pleasant manner masks this.

Anyway back to the challenge. I’ve decided to set a stretch target this month. My aim is to be at a healthy weight when my daughter returns from travelling on 3rd August – I’m about 13lbs away. She’s travelling to Bangkok alone, then meeting with some physio student friends and spending about 6 weeks travelling through Thailand, Lao, Vietnam and Cambodia, some with the other some on her own. Her plan at present is to spend a week on her own in The Philippines, but that will depend on Government travel advice. When she comes back looking tanned and healthy (she hopes but is very pale) I want to have lost a noticeable amount of weight. Apart from a tub of Ben & Jerrys already purchased to get me through her departure, I think nerves may curb my appetite.

So apologies in advance if the neurotic mother makes an appearance. I know she’ll be fine, but she’s 18 and it’s my job as a mum to worry.

Sorry for the ramble – next FD will probably by Monday.

    Day 2 – NFD
    Scotland

Think I”ll go for Monday as my next FD. Tuesday seems too far away right now.

Loved reading all your posts, saw my name on the spreadsheet – now to suss out how to access my row, thanks for adding me

Have a good weekend one and all.

Day 2 Florida USA FD Had a very successful FD today, ate only breakfast and a very healthy dinner- shrimp, Cauliflower mashed, green beans, and salad. Was even able to have 2 ounces of white wine over ice. I’m still disappointed about the May plateau I got stuck on, in spite of 9 FD’s. I’m carrying on for June. knowing everyone has had their own struggles. I’m not alone.

Me again, @sirisan no no noooooooo please don’t feel you have to leave this challenge group. Not my intention at all. The spreadsheet is there to use or not to use. As with this wol you find something that works for you and what works for you may not work for others and vice versa. I am sure @strawberriesandcream will log you in.

@pashaw no apologies necessary with so much on your plate you are an inspiration to us all. When we moan and groan and use excuses we should think of you. It’s in the job description of being a parent to worry, we can’t help it when one of our little birds start to flutter.
One of the twins has announced he wants to go to NZ next year for at least a year if he can. They were with us when we visited in 2011 and loved it. To commemorate our visit we arranged for a Kauri tree to be planted with our family name. Maybe he can find it while he is there!

    Day 2,3 – UAE – FD ( 2nd and 3rd of b24b)

Day 2 – West Yorkshire UK – FD

    Oops forgot to post yesterday.
My fast week starts on Saturday.
Started today with a 45min spin class. It’s been a good day.

I’m hoping to lose weight this, I plateaued in May stuck at 86.1kg for 3 weeks but I have lost inches.
    Wish me luck weighing tomorrow

    Day 3, London, NFD
Yesterday was supposed to be a FD but completely blew it.
Everyone on here is so positive I am trying to be also but can’t seem to see past my size and weight.
I will hopefully have a FD Sunday.

Good luck to everyone on here.

    Day 2-Albuquerque, NM -NFD

whoo–effed up last night’s FD breakfast by getting into a bag of tortilla chips! Oh well, still a few days left in this challenge.

@happymargo–I really appreciate your attitude through this temporary setback. I will try to adopt it next time something comes up. My Sweetie is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and responding beautifully. He is most upset by his loss of strength and energy and though I keep telling him that it is temporary, that he will regain his natural athleticism, I know that it is easier to say than do. Thank you.

@Onahealthyhigh–We used to call them thongs here in the U.S. too until those awful ‘thong’ underpants became trendy. I call them flip-flops now.

    Still Day 2 –

@mogaman – I know a plateau is discouraging for me too. But June is a new month. Let’s keep on keeping on & see what results come. We have control over our behaviors; not the scale.

@hotchoc – regarding the spreadsheet, you should just be able to type in your info in the slot you want it. It’s really quite user friendly. My computer sometimes took a try or two but then it worked.

@PashaW- hospital stays with loved ones can be quite taxing. My mom is in the hospital in British Columbia after a fall in which she fractured her hip. She has a type of dementia brought on by a reaction to prednizone when she was in the hospital in 2009. She is “narc sensitive”; a light weight when it comes to meds. We as a family try to be there to advocate but we can’t be there 24-7. Her personality begins to change as soon as she is the slightest bit over-medicated. They can’t just follow their normal “protocol”; somehow they hate to individualize. They put her water bottle beside her but she doesn’t drink unless someone reminds her. She was dehydrated as my brother visited the other day. Anyway, all to say it empathize with needing to by your loved one’s side 24-7. You have a wonderful attitude in it all.

@happymargo – I’d never heard of your term for flip-flops. Is that your personal denotation?

@annemarilyn – welcome to the POCKET LINGUISTS (well, we already had POCKET WINOS!). I have done crossword puzzles and now play more Words With Friends. Chuffed is ‘extremely pleased’ but Mr. Google didn’t help me with “haff with it” this time. I took Latin a couple years in high school to improve my vocabulary, and it did help. But boy was it ever hard. Besides just words, I also love Trivia (Trivia Crack is a good Facebook game).

    2nd post
Welcome @karina.122 I love the start of a new month of support and challenge always so positive. Stay with us and share our journey. As we progress there can be lots of rocky moments, people fall off the wagon, plateau, lose momentum, are impacted by life events but there is always a hand reaching out to haul us up again or give a virtual hug.

I felt just the same as you. Quite despairing of ever losing weight and gaining health in my 60s. I never imagined I’d be looking back and seeing 42lbs gone.

Small steps. Every day is a new one.

Day 2, Rochester, NY, USA – FD

I did well with my fast day until the evening….I didn’t eat anything until I had a 200 calorie smoothie at 3pm. Dinner was a salad and lettuce wraps with chickpea salad. I should have stopped there! I ended up walking to a local pub with my husband where we had a beer and split an order of French fries. I’m still in a calorie deficit for the day, but I definitely went over my 500 calorie budget. I normally wouldn’t choose a Friday as a fasting day, but this week was unusual and I thought I would try it. Monday will be my next FD, and I will aim to eat reasonably over the weekend with plenty of activity.

Hi, I have just found this challenge and wonder if I can join please?

    Day 2&3 NFD NZ

@fatrabbit I agree with your sentiments about the spreadsheet. It’s having a supportive coordinator that i know will read my post and reply if I need something that makes this so valuable for me. I know some do like to record on the spreadsheet but I really just want support and I’d rather @strawberriesandncream saw my post and responded to me than got bogged down logging data.

@strawberriesandcream thank you for posting the spreadsheet, I do know it’s important to some but I value your time and input to my posts more than a log of data.

I too echo the concerns for @paulmarsh, I do hope he reads our comments and sees them for the care and concerned responses that they are. There’s no judgement here that I’ve ever seen or experienced from anyone but it does appear that your goals are bordering on unhealthy and potentially damaging to your body in the long term. Please take care not to force your body into using your muscles for energy. Cardiac muscle is susceptible to this phenomenon as much as skeletal muscles and there are many distance runners that have succumbed to heart attack when their poor hearts have been damaged by insufficient calories over too long of a period.

Personally I’m having a great start to June. My two NFDs have been under TDEE, it’s all about mental attitude for me and I’m in the controlled and determined zone right now. I feel lighter and my jeans today have a baggy waist that wasn’t like that a couple of months ago…I’m going to go ahead and assume that’s a product of weight shedding and not stretchy pants giving out in the wash. My husband is quite sure his clothes have been shrinking in the wash (nothing at all to do with late night chips and chocolate marshmallows) so maybe mine have grown into the fabric his lost because there’s no extra bits floating around in the machine lol.

Day 3 Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 NFD
First two fasting days of the month completed although no food til 12 noon which will be soup and fruit. Lots of lovely fresh vegetables coming off the allotment now need to go steady on the new potatoes this evening Charlotte my favourite.
    Good luck to all.

    Day 3 UK FD

179.6 lbs. Bounced up but at least stayed under 180. Saturday’s are always difficult so today will be a challenge. But I don’t think there is anything bingeable in the house. I just need to eat slowly and just once, preferably at 4pm. Just because there are more people around is not a good reason to be hungrier, and anyway with the roadworks out front I may be lucky if I have any people here today. Although as Google maps recently cottoned onto the fact that the sanctuary is here (I am amazed it took them over ten years) we are now classed as a business (they don’t seem to have a separate category for a charity although they probably found us while searching the charity commission website) and our access is supposed to be maintained during the works. Useful as they let the veg man and a visitor and a personal delivery through yesterday. I don’t know what the critters make of the constant shaking and noise from the works. The house moved yesterday when they scraped the old surface off the road! The noise is bothering me much less than it would have before fasting, my anxiety os so much less:)

I didn’t mean to disparage anyone’s work on the spreadsheet, the amount of work put in has been enormous, it just seemed excessive and rather overwhelming for an individual to take that on but the new self entry version seems to be a better solution:)) I confess I have never even looked at the previous spreadsheets as I don’t have a computer to open them on and am unlikely to update the new one. I am logging onto the tracker here daily and using it as a food diary too, which along with logging here on the thread is enough for me.

Did someone say pocket linguists? That is much more me than the pocket winos. It is years since I had so much as a glass of wine but I am a language addict. I am working on Hungarian and Russian at the moment. Count me in.

Back on it please add me to June

Hello all day 3 uk co down nfd

@krits best advice is to just keep on keeping on – what is the alternative? A plateau while frustrating can be overcome just keep the faith!

I believe for the pocket linguists what @fatveganchickslims said was she was in a huff with the scales lol not a haff. Meaning she had fallen out with them – we have all been in a huff with them one time or another.

@strawplash – welcome never too late to join. Jump we were we are, day you are on is always day of the month no matter when you start.

    Welcome back @s1u2e3

Day 3. Uk nfd.. Plan to run today and mindful eating. Had a headache all day yesterday and it eventually lifted with some water and paracetamol. I was totally using it as an excuse to have a binge..telling myself this wol wasn’t for me and to start a new fresh diet tomorrow. But then I sat for a few minutes asked myself what I really wanted and it worked! I had a small tea, as I didn’t feel that hungry, had some fizz then went to bed no binging no waking up feeling crap this morning.although I’m only on it a week. I already think my need to stuff myself going and that feeling if I want it I can have it on a nfd so nice! Sorry for going on just feeling positive this am. Keep strong x

    Day 3 – UK – NFD

On holiday so not sure whether I’ll be getting too many FDs in. Stuck to eggs and yoghurt for breakfast so hoping to at least keep within TDEE and avoid sugary carbs.

Hi @louis05 give yourself a commitment of at least a month and see how it goes. Well done for getting over your first hurdle. Headaches will disappear just keep well hydrated. This is what this group is for – to post not only when things are good but it is especially supportive when things are tough. And it can be tough in the beginning. This is your journey so don’t compare yours to another’s. Remember no guilt either if you do have a slip, just put it behind you and move on, tomorrow is another day.

Help!! This has not started well for me at all. I lost 20kg 2 years ago, with the help of phentermine and have put it all back on☹️My GP will not prescribe me any more and it isn’t sustainable either. Managed to cheat on my first fd, and then have not stuck to my calories since then, it’s always going to be tomorrow, everyone sounds so positive but I was just soooo hungry on my fast day. How do people deal with it? I am on medication for life for epilepsy which increases your appetite so I feel like i am fighting a constant battle.

    Hello,
The fear of being hungry is far worse than what it actually feels like. I used to just focus on the fast day and not look at how much I had to lose. Decide what you are going to eat on a FD, aim for leaves/vegetables and protein, anf then think about which meal you are going to miss. I miss breakfast, then have a light lunch followed my a light evening meal. I found that a hot drink helps when you are struggling, I like lemon and ginger tea.

The key to a FD is a stack of jobs to do to keep you distracted and out of the kitchen! You can do it! One day at a time.

Have a look at your diet the rest of the time and reduce the sugar that you are consuming, it just makes you crave for the sweet stuff. Have a look at Robert Lustig and Jason Fung, should help with the resolve.

    @rerunirret

Hi, I do LCHF as well, i actually think that it is the most effective way to fast. I originally most weight with LC in 2010 and got to goal but have drifted up since and had trouble getting back their with the same technique. Adding fasting really helps.

I find one the biggest benefits is that you don’t get fast day headaches when you LC. i believe that this is because during a fast day you use up any glycogen stores and your body goes into sugar withdrawal (something that any low carber will be very familiar with) if you low carb on non fast days you don’t eat sugar/starch so these stores are never refilled and you don’t have to withdraw from the sugar each time you fast so no headaches.

They are very complimentary ways of eating and i would recommend to anyone who is particularly carb sensitive. I personally practice a high vegetable, low carb diet so all my carbs come from veggies and some limited fruit (too much sugar) this is because i am trying to cut down on eating a lot of meat as people often eat lots of meat on low carb, something i would rather avoid for the sake of the planet. Im not vegetarian at all but i dont think low carb should be an excuse to eat nothing but meat.

‘Diet’ advice cant make up their mind about what macro nutrient you should reduce in order to successfully lose weight fat, carbs, or protein. The good thing about fasting is that you just reduce all of them 🙂

    Bug

@ashwpz don’t be too hard on yourself.
It takes time to adapt to fasting and we all have times where we sound positive, especially at the start of the month. We also all have times where we don’t feel or sound so positive, one of the things at lot of us do, is exactly what you have done. Log on here and reach out for help and advice. With such a global community there’s always someone to lean on.
My best advice is drink LOTS of water on a FD and initially split your limited calories up over the day until you feel ready to have one small meal at the end of the day if you are able.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this, just keep hydrated and keep checking in here. We all have good days and less good days, it definitely gets easier wth time. Just hang in there and it will happen.

    Hi @annemarilyn,

I think it was Huff not Haff. ‘In a huff’ mean you are grumpy/sulky/frustrated about something (think huffing and puffing)

    found this online

In an offended manner, angrily, as in When he left out her name, she stalked out in a huff. This idiom transfers huff in the sense of a gust of wind to a burst of anger. [ Late 1600s ] Also see: in a snit.

    Day 3
    West Midlands UK
    NFD

    Day3 Guildford UK NFD

Very hungry today, first day of holiday. Nursing shoulder pain from rotary cuff injury being aggregated when minor trip with suitcase.

Yesterday went well, day 4 of FD, I only do this before a holiday and then afterwards if needed.

    Enjoying reading everyone’s progress.

    Day 3, UK, 16:8

Sticking with 16:8 for last day away from home, weight fairly stable with no fast days and guessing on calorie counts for eating out so pleased with that, but looking forward to getting back to routine. Lauren.

    Day 3 | Herts, UK | NFD

Terrible night’s sleep (overheating husband!!), but off to the gym shortly for a zumba class. Will have to take it a bit easier than normal as my injury-prone spine (I have a prolapsed disc combined with another condition) is feeling a touch sensitive.

Out tonight with friends, which I’m really looking forward to!
