  • I’m making 2017 a new start in my food habits. As my profile outlines, I’m making a big effort to reduce my weight and improve my skin. I’ve grudgingly tolerated psoriasis since the age of 7, and all the abuse and misery it has inflicted on me as I grew up. It has recently become much worse so I guess I’m looking for a miracle. I know there is no cure but I am interested in the potential link between psoriasis and gut bacteria.

I’d welcome any advice from a tried and tested source if it was successful for you. Aveeno is a no go for me. It made it worse. My current favoured treatment is coconut oil applied topically. Steroids and all the dermatological creams are totally out too. They don’t work for me. (Incidently, I found out that a sea salt and water mix applied to the skin stops the itchiness).

I don’t suffer depression at all, being an optimistic person, so you can say pretty much anything without fearing I’d be offended if you think it will be useful. I’m not over sensitive about my skin.

Wishing you all a fantastic 2017.

Hi @fastladyv, just browsing the forum and came across your post. I’m from South East England but actually currently live in Glasgow! We still share an accent though, and i’m back home currently for the holidays 🙂

Sorry to hear you’ve been suffering. My brother used to suffer terribly with his skin, he was misdiagnosed with eczema for years but then went to see a different specialist and it turns out it was a fungal infection that was cured with a course of anti-fungals and he hasn’t even been half as bad ever again since. Other than a potential misdiagnosis (I know psoriasis is different but could be an option to see another specialist?) I know dairy can have a big effect on skin, have you ever experimented with removing/lowering dairy in your diet?

We’re running a January small group challenge over in the weight loss section if you’d like to join us, we’d love to have you 🙂 you can find out more info here:

My psoriasis disappeared as a result of the 5:2 and I know that I am not alone.
