  • Morning all!

Well done Beverley and Hemmy on your losses. I think 1lb per week is excellent..steady and consistent and allows body time to adjust. This is a WOL not a quick fix so much more likely to retain the good results.

I agree with you Hemmy re goals. Our local Chest and Heart set mine at 66kg due to age (53) and height (162cms) I’m now just shy of 2kg off that but think I could go lower without looking scrawny. I can’t believe how successful this WOL has been for me and am absolutely determined to maintain this weight loss. I enjoy FDs and I know others on here do too. It’s great to eat normally and socialise and still get good results 🙂

Celtic..haven’t heard from you for a while..really hope all OK with you xx

Hemmy..I love your little sign off sayings!x

    Have a good day all

    Karen
    Xx

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the well wishes and the same right back at ya. I can’t reply individually at the moment as I’m having a bad M.E. day. I will write as soon as I’m able, but in the meantime I am reading all the inspirational, informative and entertaining posts!

    Ta,

    Mak

    Thank you Karen.

Yes, slow and easy for me. I will be doing this WOL in some form forever I reckon. I am sure after losing a good amount it will prove harder… I am much happier now with how my clothes feel and look after 11 weeks so in for the long steady ride. Xx

    Hi Mak

Sorry you are having a bad day x I send you healing thoughts… try to rest.

Look forward to you feeling better and joining in .. keep in touch just say hello if you feel upto it.

Hope everyone else is doing well. ( Celtic.. Worried about you and Stu. Hope you are OK.) Xx

Off to do something with these damn apples and blackberries. Keep picking them but not doing a lot of action with them. Lol

Don’t forget Brit lovelies “Don’t wait to lost Weight”. Xx

A shopping trip to Tesco has provided me with some new foods to play with. Finally got some of the Heck chicken sausages so shall enjoying trying those – can hardly believe how low cal they are. I think they will be a nice addition to a chunky veg soup.

Also got some Tesco Finest yorkshire puds to try. Only 99 cals per pud so might be handy on a fast day filled with something veggie.

The thing I bought that I’m most interested to try is almond milk. I kept reading about nut milks on various websites and almond was the one that seemed to have the best combination of good nutrition plus very low calories (the unsweetened Alpro one is 13 calories per 100ml compared to 50 calories per 100ml for ordinary semi-skimmed) That’s a pretty big calorie saving for a sauce. I’m going to try it with a cheese sauce, perhaps try one with some 50% reduced fat cheese and also try it with the yeast flakes. if its good with just yeast flakes it will be a fab addition to my FD pantry. Anyone else using it?

    Hi Karen

That is good then, we are cheering you to the finish line.

    Hi Mak

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day, hope this improves soon.

    Hi Hemmy

I think that I shall be doing it in some form as well, first to lose and then to make sure I don’t put it back on. I am having a bad food day at the moment, need to get back in my stride.

    I love blackberry and apples!!

    Hi Priscilla

Well done on getting the sausages, yes they are really low but tasty too. I think Almond milk will be nice in lots of things, good for you as well. I use yeast flakes occasionally but don’t find the flavour strong enough.

Let me know what you think of your new buys.

    Ginette

    Hi Everyone!

So after a week of 5:2’ing i lost 4 and a half pounds! Needless to say i was very happy!
I’m in my second week now and today is a FD; it’s been a bit more of a struggle today than my previous FD’s but i know that not every one is going to be easy, and i’m feeling positive about my progress.
I’m sure that at some point the weight-loss will start to slow down but so long as i lose at least 1lb a week i’ll be happy; reading everyone’s progress on here is really spurring me on and it’s good to know there are people going through the same as me 🙂

    Hi all

Tiger..wow! Well done on your loss 🙂 A great number to help you on your way x stay focused..it gets easier and you’ll soon be in the swing of things.

    Mak..hope you’re feeling a bit better x

Ginette..are the Heck sausages chilled or frozen? I haven’t found any yet. I could have a look when I’m in the UK at the w/e and give them a whirl.

Hope everyone else is having a good day 🙂

With husband away for work I’ve been very productive with housework today so can enjoy a sit down this eve!

    Karen
    Xx

    Good evening friends. x

Priscilla that almond milk sounds interesting, will have to read up on it… good to hear how you get on. I have been reading the merits of coconut oil…supposed to be good. Xx

Ginette Your body is allowed to have a bad food day.. we all rebel at times.

When you do the gym make sure you have some carbs before. Kristy got told off by her trainer for being tired as she hadn’t had any carbs. He said she needed them for energy. I like apples and blackberry’s too…well I did but will probably get sick of them. Hate to see them wasted as no one seems to be picking them. You will soon get back in your stride. Xx

TigerFeetNeet Wow what a fantastic start… well done you.

After a while the fasts get easier but we all have our blips. We are human and that’s what we do. Lol

Yes, I am of the opinion a settling of a lb.a week is the slow and sure way to go. Xx

Karen hope you got your rest this evening after a busy day. You are nearly at your goal now .. how exciting is that. Xx

Bev hope your day has gone well .. see you on early morning call. Lol Xx

Audrey hope you are feeling better.Xx

    Hope everyone else is okay.

Brit lovelies Eat to Live not Live to eat. Xx

Hoping every one had a good FD yesterday/today. Got through the day on just an apple a pear and dinner of 100g of water porridge. Started using apple cider vinegar today… thought I might as well get two things done at once and mixed some husk into it and made up to a pint with filtered water. Seemed to work well kept… hunger pangs away while I was cooking. Things didn’t go well on Friday. Spent yesterday hibernating.

    Celtic..so sorry about Friday x

Thinking of you both and hoping things improve x

    Love
    Karen Xx

    Hi Tiger

Well that was a great loss, well done! It is nice to get a good loss at first as it shows that it works. Keep up the good work.

    Hi Karen

In the chiller, they are normally in cardboard display boxes. They have a cardboard bit on the front of the packet, it is an orange coloured bit.

    Hi Hemmy

I wish it was just the one I’ve gone off the rails lately, I’ve just got to get myself back to normal. In a bit of a strange mood lately with things happening that I can’t do anything about. I will shake it off.

    Hi Celtic

I am sorry that Friday was a bad day, remember we are here for you, things are difficult enough for you and Stu without more to challenge you.

    Ginette

OK you lot, here is your morning call…..ring ring ring

So much more happens here in the evening I have to catch up. Then I have trouble remembering everything. You are all in my thoughts though of course.

Hemmy, our little treasure. 11 weeks. I had to look back and think I just finished week 5. It seems a lot longer. LOL

Wise words Karen and Hemmy and I know Audrey would say so too if she was here. Slow but sure. I must learn patience!! I have fished out size 12 burgundy velvet jeans. Boot cut. I have sizes 10 to 18 here. The 18s will soon be going on ebay…hoorah.

Celtic, thinking of you and Stu.

Priscilla, I tried all sorts of milk because when Neil was diagnosed with the big C cows was out the window. I tried Almond and Neil didn’t like it. I don’t like soya. My friend has wheat milk. Odd. We settled on Goats semi
    skimmed.

Big weekend coming up, sort of. Daughter started her Phd yesterday and heard she had got the job she wanted in Turin. She rang 3 times yesterday but could hardly speak as she has the virus! She is back here Friday night. Like dynamite! Also Grandaughter number 1 is 15 on Friday, she is sons daughter.

Good luck to new folks. 2nd coffee for me. Hemmy I cannot think of a witty ending except, little things please little minds and big pants fit big behinds..hee hee

    Beverley x

Good morning CAMP…..ERS hope all is well with you and yours. Xx

Celtic what a shame for you both you don’t need extra worry at this time.. As Ginettes says we are all here for you. Take care. Xx

    Hi Ginette

Just take a break from the routine. Its hard to focus on everyday things when there are other more pressing things going on.
I don’t know but I would guess a lot of people with weight issues like us are probably worriers. So hard to focus especially if we feel we are not able to control things.
Things seem to have a way of finding a level again somehow.. ( Like our weight hopefully). Xxxx

Whey hey Bev size 12 velvet jeans. What with Audrey in her size 10 leggings .. Karen near goal .. not standing next to you lot. Lol
Sounds like a busy week-end ahead Well done to your Daughter and Happy Birthday to your G Daughter for Fri . Xx

Hope everyone else is doing well Xx

Well Brit lovelies as Bev says.. Little things please little minds and big pants fit big behinds.

On that note ” Anyone Fasting today. Lol Off to the dentist. Xx

    Hi fellow be its

    Am coming home later today.

Caravan is being put away for winter and drained down.

Will be in touch tomorrow good luck to all

    Audrey

    Hello All,

I started 5:2 today and am on my first FD – I’ve decided that I’m better off just eating one meal in the evening rather than eating throughout the day as I know that once I start…you get the picture.

I managed to avoid cake and biscuits at work so that’s a big thing for me as I’m used to having some every day.

Planning a delicious supper of quinoa, kale, garlic and chilli for this evening – I can’t wait. It’s quite nice to feel so hungry and have the discipline not to eat, I keep reminding myself that it’s okay to be hungry, a feeling that I never really let myself feel before.

Reading these posts have been so encouraging, I’m hoping to lose a stone that magically appeared when I turned 30!

    Thanks all x

Hi Skinny Jen and a big welcome from me.

I am relatively new but you will find a lot of lovely, experienced and kind ladies to gently prod you on your way.

Great you are nipping it in the bud and sounds as if you are right on top of things. Wishing you all the best!
    Beverley

Hemmy, if you catch this. No way could I get into my size12 jeans yet! They are hanging up like the proverbial carrot waiting patiently for me to catch up with them. lol x

Thanks Beverley – these posts are getting me through my lunch break!

    Hi All

There was I half way through a post and accidentally lost it.

    Hi Beverley

What a great boost for you, seeing the sizes change, a sure sign of how well this works. Good news for your daughter who will be going to Turin, I predict holidays in the pipeline for you!

Sounds as if you have a busy weekend ahead. That virus is awful, I know some people who have had it. I called my sister in law in Canada yesterday and she is home with double pneumonia. She lives on her own as well, she does have friends calling in to see her and the doctor. I was only on the phone for two minutes as I knew it was difficult for her to speak. How I wish I was closer…….

    Hi Hemmy

What I need is to get into routine again, still doing regular fast days and that helps. Yes I am fasting today.
    A day in for me.

    Hi Audrey

I am sure this is a busy time for you, see you back here in full flow tomorrow then. X

    Hi Jen

Nice to see you here. Fill up on water or weak squash, black coffee or fruit teas. If you count in the milk you can also have tea (my favourite). I bought a bigger cup when I started 5:2, I use the same amount of milk but just more water.

The first day I found the most difficult, I very soon adapted and sound as if you have it all organised, this is half the battle.

If you need help or advice just ask and there will be lots of people to help.

    Ginette

    Afternoon Brit buddies 🙂

Ginette..thanks for the info re Heck sausages. At least I know what to look out for now so hope to track them down.

Jen..welcome 🙂 Keep on track for your first FD..you will feel such a sense of achievement and tomorrow you can relax but not go mad! Such a lot of great support and advice on here to help you on your way x

Beverley..Turin..fantastic! Lovely city..stayed overnight earlier this year en route to a ski holiday in Sestriere. Fabulous part of the world! Those velvet jeans sound fab!

    Hemmy..hope dentist went OK x

Audrey..looking forward to having your company again and hope the packing up went fine.

Hope everyone else having a good day 🙂 NFD for me today

    Karen
    Xx

    hi all

NFD for me and on my own as hubby is away again. I decided to try some of the Heck sausages. They are really good! Had a couple with some cauliflower cheese. How do you all manage your packs? Too many to use at once. I bought 2 pack, separated 1 pack into single sausages and froze them. The other pack, which I used some of tonight, I’m thinking of cooking and freezing, maybe even chop into chunks and freeze and then could pop the frozen chunks into soup etc. Any thoughts?

Well done on your good planning SkinnyJen – that’s half the battle. I aim to have as tasty a meal on FD’s as I do on NFD’s. In fact, it’s my constant hunt for interesting FD recipes that keeps me interested. Only one fail so far – cauliflower “pizza base” ugh (though husband liked it fine)

Have finally lost that naughty pound that I put on after my holiday – in fact lost 2 in total. My loss is definitely in fits and starts – nothing for a week or so then a drop. One other odd thing I’ve noticed. As I weigh daily, I always expect my losses to be the morning after a FD. That is almost never the case though – I seem most likely to drop the second morning after a FD. Strange!

Celtic – so sorry to hear things were rough last Friday. Thinking of you.

    Hi all

I am finally home with caravan put to bed for the winter. ….

I buy tesco healthy living sausage they are really tasty and 80 kcals each I think. Anyway I chop them up and use them instead of meat balls in my pasta dishes. …..

I am off for a well deserved long soak the the bath now, welcome to skinny hen. Celtic sorry it was bad news on Friday, Karen hope mum is sorted out soon, to everyone else HELLO. …..

    Talk more tomorrow

    Audrey

    Good evening friends.

Hi Audrey … looking forward to seeing you back tomoz. Xx

Welcome Skinny Jen .. Just love the name. You are in the right place for help… support and a bit of fun. You are in the right frame of mind to really make a difference… Happy days. Xx

Bev.. you will do those size 12s easy peasy I reckon… we are all with you all the way there. Xx

Dear Ginette you are our main stay.. our Star … but you also need support too. You have come such a long way .. we have a good few miles to catch up .. rest up a while but still be here with us. ( To keep us in line) Lol. xxxx

Karen.. Hope you are enjoying your NFD being very mindful of those last few pounds. Go Girl. Yes, dentist fine just an ok checkup. Wonderful dog walking weather hope its the same for you. Xx

Priscilla Well done on the loss. I have read others on the forum say their loss is the second day after the fast. I usually can rely on a 2-3 drop the next day then increase by 1 on the second day. Xx

Thinking of you Celtic and Stu. xxxx

Don’t forget Brit lovelies …EAT TO LIVE NOT LIVE TO EAT.. Xx

Disaster, unmitigated disaster. Burnt the dinner well and truly. Son came round and was so intent to talk to him thought I had turned off the oven and hob. Not so!!
Hence mad dash to Tesco and oven chips and finest Moussaka.
    Very rude words all round…….
Self flagellation is in order……FD tomorrow thank heavens.

Oh Bev Xx Don’t beat yourself up about the dinner but can truly understand how you felt.

The main thing being you were so intent talking to your son which at the end of the day is worth everything. x
Good ole Tesco to the rescue.. enjoy and wash it down with a glass or two.

Hurray for easy FD tomoz for you. Xxxx

    Hi Karen

I hope you enjoy them, I have got some tomorrow.

    Hi Priscilla

Aren’t they filling as well. I think I have heard of smash as well made into pizza base. I’m not sure where.

    Hi Hemmy

Yes I’ll keep you all on track if I can. I just had a delicious Belgian chocolate options, such a treat to finish fast day off with.

    Oh dear Beverley

Such a shame, I can imagine how annoyed you were, still in the grand scheme of things it will pass.

Nice that you are close to you son, I am close to mine as well.

    Ginette

Good morning all hope all is well with you and yours. x

I am so surprised how my stomach is shrinking and taste buds changing.

Some weeks back I would have “chip shop” fish n chips once a week. Now for the last about 3 weeks Kristy and I haven’t mentioned them. Of course they always came with the bottle of wine.

Anyway, Audrey said weeks back they were to greasy for her now and I now feel the same. The thought of that batter … Yuk Soooo definitely getting there.
No wine since a week tomoz still miss that a bit but not too bad now.

Shopping with Mum and small snack at bakery café today. That’s holds no worry now.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing. Be mindful.

Remember Brit lovelies ” Dont be large Be in Charge” Xx

Hemmy I love your “quote for the day”……

I have weighed in plus 1.5lb was feeling bad till hubby got on and he is plus 4lb! Fast days Saturday and Sunday this week, will have to manage without milena it’s going to be hard…..anybody fancy doing a B2B?

My tummy is still upset from last weekend, I don’t do buffet beige food anymore…….

    Have a great day everybody

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey

And why will you have to manage without me? Been ready and waiting for you. At least we won’t be talking across threads and confusing everyone now.

After that two weeks of trying bloody hard, including liquid fasts and b2b with you, and losing not an ounce – decided to put 5:2 aside and enjoy the Danish food – which seems to include a great deal of mayo sauces and chips. Drank a lot of wine too. Came home, ate the Godiva chocs OH had bought me, shared the wine and toblerone I had bought my son, and got on the scales to survey the damage.

Weight exactly the same as I did before I left last Thursday. Go figure.

    Milena

Thought you were still away…..thank goodness you are back. You are being missed on the loca thread, everyone is missing you and that silly woman seems to have gone now..

I am up for liquid only and fast on Saturday and Sunday if that fits in with you?

Keep in touch let me know if you are up for weekend fast day

Well done on maintaining let’s hope it’s this easy when we finally reach our target weight, HeheHe. …..
    Welcome back again……

    Audrey

Milena would love to hear more about Denmark. Do you speak Danish. FD for us I’ve decided to do just liquids until dinner time nd then its broccoli soup for dinner. Did a huge amount of cooking Tuesday which meand theres about 10 portions of beetroot and horseradish soup in the freezer. Its got a glug of plymouth gin in it so prob not a fast day meal. I added sliced celery diced cooked potato and a can of chickpeas because Stu wont eat blended soups. Tues we had a qourn concoction with chilled reheat wholewheat pasta. At the same time I used the rest of the quorn mix up by topping it with chilled mash potato. Last night we took one of these quorn potato pies to share at a friends house….it was lovely to be sat in a normal room not surrounded by boxes. I think it did us good to have a bit of a break. Hope every one is having a good day. What FD meals are people planning? I got a good deal on the apple cider vinegar from a company called Dolphin Fitness. They do all sorts of stuff. Also got 5 L of Faith in Nature Rosemary shampoo twenty pounds cheaper than else where and postage free.

Forgot to say that all though number on scales not changed much lots clothes much looser. Really grateful to have found 5:2. .Finding ita hugely motivational focus. The frirnd we had dinner with lsst night has been doing this WOL for about 18 months and now maintains on 6:1

Has anyone made their on cauliflower rice yet ?

Had another trip to GP with Stu to try and get them to start lowering massive dose of sodium valpoate… he’s tired all the time, his skin is peeling off and hes gaining weight again….which has pushed blood pressure up again . Still no results from the carotid ultra sound.

    Celtic

I hope they sort Stu out soon and he starts to improve.

It sounds like your freezer is very full of ready meals like mine!

I make lots of soups and stews as well as arather good chilli and bolognese made with turkey mince so it’s low in fat. … I prefer my winter meals to summer ones much more satisfying. ….

    Have a good day,

    Audrey

Beverly hows Neil doing? Ginette hows Pam .? Karen hows Mum ? If you want a milk alternative oat milk is worth checking out. Personally I dont much like soya milk on things like cereals. It has got better over the years (I have been vegan at points in the past). Theres a strong arguement against almond milk …. its extremely water intensive and thought to be contributing to the drought California was / is experiencing. Used to make my own soya milk and nut milks once upon a time but current kitchen is way to small and lifes too short!

    Hi Audrey

got back Monday night – so up for a fasting weekend, to use my analogy of snakes and ladders, was very much expecting to have slid down a VERY long snake so had psyched myself to having a big repair job. Instead I can see the finish line – at least to the first target I set myself, back at the end of January – can’t remember why I set 53 lbs, such an odd number. I revised the target to 77 lbs in February, must be mad – I’ll likely be here forever!

Celtic – no I don’t speak Danish, but nearly all Danes speak English, so different to going to France or Italy. We are back there in January – at eighty pounds for two return tickets, cheaper than travelling to the south of England from Edinburgh!! This trip we ventured to Jutland, to visit a museum. We go to buy jewellery but Copenhagen is a lovely place to spend a weekend or longer.

    Milena

I am very pleased that we will be fasting together again I somehow feel that it’s easier when someone is doing it with you.

Thanks for joining me are there any more takers?

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey

did miss you! Of course, planning now for the weekend, I am such a planner!!

As I will be doing without wine all weekend, I am prepared! Glass full and drinking it right now!

    Milena

Have a glass for me! Am going to treat myself tomorrow night when ian goes work….

Night night fellow brits, enjoy what’s left of the evening

    Audrey

Hi Audrey lovely to see you back.
Be care careful about the liquid only diet as Kristy’s trainer told her that these liquid only diets ..are for losing instant weight but when you go back to eating normal food you instantly put it back on.

Because your body thinks it going to be starved of food so it retains the fat.

The reason why the the 5 2 way of life works… its because you are still feeding your body so it thinks its getting food but the stomach is shrinking with the less calories.

This is why not a lot weight is lost in the long term on a liquid diet.

Just good ole Billy the Trainers ranting’s. Lol Xx

Thanks for your concern hemmy but I think that is probably when you are on a liquid only diet all the time and not just the odd day.

I do take in calories whilst on liquid only so no danger of my body thinking it’s starving HeheHe

    Audrey

    Hi Audrey

I said to Kristy .. Audrey would know what she was doing with this WOL.. as she has been here a while. Of course handsome trainer Billy is god at the moment and must be obeyed. Lol xx

    Oh milena

I have been tempted have opened my wine tonight. A very nice rose with summer fruits yummy! Cheers talk tomorrow

    Audrey

Finally had a late FD dinner of broccoli soup (thank you freezer) and three of the Waitrose LoveLife sunflower and pumpkin seed oat cakes. (They are one of the only brands about that doesnt have palm oil in). Before we could eat had to pull oven out andclean and rereive the digital thermometer I dropped down the back the otherday. Dinner might haveen late but at least the back of them cooker is spotless. So glad i bout the stem mop at beginning of the year.

Does any one else cook using rice bran oil … its got a high smokepoint and zero cholesterol.

    all in the planning Audrey!!!roflmao!!!!!!

Hi Celtic, if nothing else, we learn on this journey, never heard of it, must admit I use extra virgin olive oil and butter for everything! Love the stuff. Perfectly mad though!

Hi Hemmy, I dont think the trainer is correct, but not necessarily completely wrong.

We do a restrictive fast and only allow liquid, Audrey goes down the path of very low calorie drinks (but not reduced calorie – oxo just happens to have very few calories and taste nice). Im water only but some days find a cuppa with a drop of milk and a sprinkling of sugar just gets me through the day. A true liquid fast is calorie free.

Calories in – calories used. Eat nothing and, because simply functioning uses calories, you will will reduce weight because if nothing is going in, you use the fat supplies already in your body to exist. Its simply a 5:2 option, as opposed to 500 calories. Considering it is perefectly possibly to exist without food for weeks, I imagine no one would starve to death and have fat reserves. I think there have been studies to examine the effects of not eating, for a long period.

Provided we dont follow a liquid day by overeating, no weight regained.

The idea that your body retains fat cos it thinks it is being starved is possibly untrue – people on long term true fasts dont necessarily put it back on. I think simcoeluv gives a link to an example where a Glasgow guy fasted for many weeks, only water, and didnt regain the lost weight.

On the other hand, if you dont drink, you will lose some weight which will go straight back on when you drink. Thats why some folk show a high weight loss at the beginning of a diet.

Audrey and I make a point of drinking a lot of water.

Though when you think of the severe calorie restriction people held in concentration camps in WWII must have suffered, they lost weight but they survived on a very restrictive diet, it shows the human body has the capacity to survive on very little, so perhaps not just about calories. Humbling eh??

    Hi Milena

I understand and get where you are coming from here… but I feel we are not in the situation of those poor people in the concentration camps… thankfully.

I think we have a choice here we are not in the 1940s and I do not wish to compare myself to that situation .. as much as it was absolutely horrendous.

Each to their own and just my opinion of course. Xx

    Hi Hemmy

my father, escaped death at the hands of the Nazis – many slavs went into the camps -though he was suffered gunshot wounds, and reached England at the end of the war – I was not comparing dieting to those horrors – I simply gave the example to marvel at the human body and its ability to survive.

Seems I manage to offend on these threads on a daily basis – and to think I would probably be pretty good at offending if I ever did it intentionally!

    Hi Milena

Absolutely no offence taken as I am sure none intended.

Just couldn’t compare this WOL with what those poor people endured through no fault of their own and no choice. Can also see what you are saying.

Think I will just plod along at my own pace and stop trying to be helpful. Lol Xx
