  • Gypsy, stay safe, thinking of you, cyclones are the hazard with living in such a beautiful place. You’d know your own check list for staying safe and cosy, well self contained anyway. Our thoughts are with you 🙁 CG xxx

    Hi all!
Well done on keeping everyone guessing GG, will have to read back to find out more about Andrew….he’s before my time. Sounds like he’s one of the good guys, so welcome (back) Andrew and let us know how you’ve been getting on.
Welcome to you too, Ozziegirl. It can be hard in the evenings of a fast day if you can’t distract yourself, so it’s good advice to keep some calories for a late snack. I like having a few (6) almonds and a cup of green tea. Others go to bed early with a good book. It does get easier so hang on in there.
CG – so funny to think of you losing both halves of your bathers at different times and very good idea to measure before buying new ones or you’ll be getting a reputation!! ;0
Gypsy – hope you stay safe when the ‘sandwich’ hits – not quite the risks the rest of us think of when faced with a sandwich!
My weigh in day again tomorrow and I’ll be measuring too. Wore a pair of trousers today that I haven’t worn for a few weeks and they’re nearly falling off me!! 🙂

Seriously, the number of people who eat Bird’s Eye steamed fish, I think they are missing a great marketing opportunity!
Here in Qld I would be considered a mexican as I come from NSW.
Isn’t he a cat in the henhouse, Gypsy? Anyway enough of pedantics!

    Welcome, Ozzie girl.

I am going to have a rant here. From reading your posts I can see we are all intelligent ,well educated and mostly women. Yesterday while having a get together with some friends, one of them referred to one of our female politicians as ” that girl”. Now we are speaking about an adult female politician. I do not support her party but to call a woman a girl is to my mind seriously disrespectful of our gender. Instead of blowing my top & upsetting my hostess I made an excuse and came home. Am I being precious? Would anyone call Tony Abbott a boy? – I could call him a few other things!
I’d be interested in your comments. Men ( not boys) please have your say too.
    Barking mad Doggy

Doggie – I had the same rant yesterday at work – how is it that each there is a social gathering at work, the “girls” are expected to set-up or help with cakes or whatever, and the ‘boys’ simply turn up for beer or (very rarely) heavy lifting or moving? When I jokingly mentioned it later, I was told, Social club is run by “girls” as they are better at such stuff. I was tossing up whether to bring it up at next staff meeting, or to let it go and not sound whingey and princessy.
Anyhow, ate my body weight and then some yesterday (I have to STOP CHEESE), so sticking to straight and narrow FD today – so no calories until lunch at 12 noon. I didn’t realize but had a moment of truth when I entered Asahi Beer in my calorie app – it was 400 cals! for one measly bottle that I didn’t even much like, I prefer white wine that the function organizers had run out of…
Welcome back Andrew, and welcome Ozziegirl.

Also, as we lose weight and change shape, how are you updating your wardrobe? I am thinking of sticking to a capsule wardrobe in current size and then slowly updating pieces in it in new shape/size. Something like post-baby wardrobe lol 🙂
I had to give away a few old (but in good shape) clothes, and OH was commenting that it seemed like a waste to give away good suits etc, and was planning to do this every couple of months. But I didn’t want the emotional baggage of staring at baggy old clothes every morning. Also chucked a minor tantrum when he asked what happened if I gained weight again! OHs of the world reading this thread, this is the WRONG thing to say to a woman 🙂

    Ha, Lotus. Husband fail!
Dogs, sorry it spoilt your day. Maybe you could have tried a quiet word without losing it but I know. You want to say something but don’t want to come across as humourless.
I find this all the time on various topics such as homosexuality, sexism towards males etc. Women complain about sexism but then say outrageous things about men.
Anyway, it is such a put down isn’t it, to call someone a girl in that context. Of course in other contexts, it is perfectly OK. I picked someone up for calling her daughter’s flatmate a “little girl” when she was being a bit critical of her. Clearly anyone living on their own is not a little girl. It was a put down.

    yep. epic fail ! 🙂

Morning all. Well we had some heavy showers overnight and it’s looking pretty grey out, a bit breezy, but nothing threatening as yet. No definite cyclone watch, so it could still fizzle to a low. tho doubtful with actually 3 potential blows brewing off shore. Some one will cop this lot. A bit ‘erk’ if you let it, but I just do the fundamentals (stock, stack and “Steady as she blows!”) and don’t look at the media hyping ‘inflaters’. Not that I don’t commend the ones who storm chase and risk harm to keep the public informed. My (deceased)son was a news and documentary cameraman/journo at times of disaster ( a stringer for the Southern media) He free lanced and actually won several awards (like the one hanging on a harness from a helicopter over a bushfire, he located trapped survivors and saved lives) . But the various newsmongers sitting safe at a desk, miles away, with their libraries of said footage, tend to hammer us with re-runs of past destruction while they’re waiting (in hopes? it sometimes feels like!) of the real thing! It gets stressful, to say the least (one does NOT want to re-live that experience as a mum, or a blow like Yasi, I can assure you!). I still have a direct line to the storm birds (My boy’s ground zero mates) If it’s coming my way one of them will tell me. Or they might arrive (From far and wide) with their cameras to use my place as a base, so they can be in range when/if it hits the coast. In which case I’ll be busy shovelling food into them, and they’ll no doubt raid my still for a rum or two. And yes, Doggy, I have a 5KVA generator and plenty of fuel, to keep the Sav Blanc cold, GG! (did you know Yalumba has it in a cask?).

I’m away to make my soups and cauliflour pasta to freeze. Not letting a mere cyclone put me off track! I am holding at 85.8!kgs and it’s GOING DOWN! will check you all out later, don’t worry if I am offline for a bit. Busy. xxxGyps PS.. tsk tsk, CG, do try to keep your togs on!

HI All Gyps stay safe in that weather & glad to hear you’re very well set up AND ahve some very handy contacts as well! Hope your cooking has gone well (whoops actually typed coking….thought I’d better change that!).
Oh Lotus soo not the thing to say! My OH isn’t much better – think he’s quietly sceptical of my weight loss & is waiting for it to all come back on again. So he just doesn’t comment much at all, which is not very encouraging. I think your capsule wardrobe as you call it is a good idea. Gotta have new, smaller, more flattering clothes for sure.
Dogie yes “like a girl” is a phrase that needs to get lost I reckon. Have you seen the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIxA3o84syY It talks about actually changing the meaning of the phrase rather than dropping it. And along with that comes changing the derogatory context of the words/s “girl/girls”.
Fit I too put on a pair of jeans that I couldn’t do up weeks ago & now they’re a bit loose. I just could not believe it. I was sorta trying them on for a laugh really, not seriously thinking that I’d be anywhere near doing them up. Yeah!!
FD again today before my best friend’s birthday dinner tomorrow night. Well…this is birthday celebration numero uno with just 4 friends, & THEN she’s having a big 130th bash at the end of the month – 60 for her, 50 for OH & 20 years married = 130! She really knows how to challenge 5:2 but we can shift things around, have extra fast days…and still enjoy every bit of food & every glass of wine. What a WOL!!
Have a good day all and enjoy the journey – think of it as on open ticket, not a ticket with a date that a must be kept! Don’t just hang out for the destination. I KNOW we all wanna get there but don’t forget to enjoy the journey and what you learn about food/eating/your food habits/hunger/what works for you and doesn’t. SJ

Thanks Suejen and Lotus for your comments. I’ve just watched the video. It’s very good. After belonging to golf clubs etc for years I got fed up with it always being the “girls ” that did the catering etc etc. Since moving back to Tassie I’ve not joined for just this reason.
Congratulations to those of you who have lost weight and now fit into smaller sizes. I recently bought myself a pretty blouse. It’s just that weenie bit too tight still but I am determined to fit into it with comfort within the month.
FD here but so far I’m doing fine and not hungry.
Gypsy I’m so sorry to read about your son. Yes we all know about people who are doers and not oohers. Your son was obviously a doer. Batten down those hatches and stay safe.
I’m going to go to bed an hour earlier toningt. Pepper the pooch is still waking me up very early so I’m going to go to plan B.
    DOGGY

Hi Doggy, you hang in there, I’m sue you will be in your new top before you know it. Well my fast has turned into a semi fast. Adding dinner and my coffee I’ll finish at 727cals so not really a fast but still a very low cal day. I bought some corn nuts today and had to try them, yummmm, but high cals, only had 30g but that pushed me over. Veg soup tonight with a grain roll, shouldn’t have it but haven’t had bread for so so long and looking forward to just biting into it with my soup and calculated that into my cals.
I haven’t come in on your conflict, I’m a bit of a fence sitter on that one, I agree it’s wrong that women are always being expected to be the ones setting up and supplying lunches or suppers etc but they usually like to anyway, I know our local hall has a Hall committee who do all the functions but they enjoy it and they are all women who do the cooking. Although it wouldn’t hurt for the men to “buy” something to add. Plenty of cake shops around. As far as being called a girl, well I guess it could be a lot worse, and it depends on the context of the conversation usually. Sometimes it can be a compliment too. Sorry if that puts me back on the fence but I usually call men guys anyway again depending on the conversation.
Have a lovely and enjoy what ever you do 🙂 CG xx

I wish I could lose it in my top half CG, it always goes from my bum amd thighs first (not really complaining but it aint that big) haha! I would love to lose it up top and in my arms but I guess that is not the way I am built. I am sure it will go eventually…

Hope those cyclones disappear Gypsy, apparently Cyclone Nathan is in QLD as well.

Can you please tell me what type of Birds Eye fish you buy Doggy?

Hi to all the newbies and Andrew from Castlemaine, looking forward to reading your posts!!

FD for me tomorrow, I am looking forward to it. Have a great night everyone.

Hi all. have been off the air for a couple of days travelling & look how much I have to catch up on!
Warm welcome Yellow, Teskat, Chippy, Ozzie & welcome back Andrew.
SJ – Vegemite soup idea came in handy last night. Thanks – top tip.
DiiP – Well done on those reducing numbers.
CG – LOL. Try those cozzies in the shower before baring it all at water aerobics!
Gypsy – stay safe & keep that wine cold!
GG – glad that’s over….didn’t even understand the FLIPPING hints.
Doggie – I do the same thing on FD. Eating the same each day makes it easy. Just change the protein at night. Does plan B for Pepper include Phenergen?

In Brissie for my Mum’s 97th birthday tomorrow – & she’s still living independently!
FD today (with something cold & wet in fridge as reward… cryptic hint – SSB.
Feast day tomorrow to celebrate with my beautiful Mum.
All those fasting tomorrow have a good one!
    CM xx

Hi DiiP, I’m really surprised where the weight did go from, bum, hips, waist, and now the bust, although I don’t think it is cup size, just back fat, maybe both, and above all, my thighs, they have really toned down, just need to lose it in the upper belly, just below the bust, but I don’t really care, so long as it’s going and gone for good. I’ll measure Friday too. I guess exercise for specific areas might help. Are you getting the winds of surf from the cyclones? If so, take care…CG xxx

Hi team, came in at 468c today, didn’t have the roll, the soup was so filling just veggie with tinned tomatoes chic peas etc and very yum. Just having instant coffee tonight instead of cappuccino BECAUSE I can have it all tomorrow 🙂 so another fast done. Have a good fast tomorrow if are are doing one, I’ll be doing one on Friday to make it 4:3 this week. Start preparing team, boil an egg on to boil, check if you need salad goods or veg, you know the drill, and have a pleasant evening.. CG xx 🙂 xx

Me too CG – another FD on Friday for me. Good idea with veggie soup (love it) , but think it might trigger carb craving! Love bread with my soup. Oh well, as you say…TOMORROW we can have it. CM x

WOW, that is good to know CG, I have the upper belly problem too, we will remove it I am positive of this!!

No winds on the Gold Coast as yet, have a feeling we will miss it, x fingers. Hope Gypsy is safe and enjoying her Sav B.

Thanks CM, congrats to you as well.

Doggy – I agree with your rant, in that context you do not call a woman a ‘girl’ because used like that it is obviously meant as a derogatory term. I have no problem with ladies doing the catering at events if they want to, but it should be understood that men should get stuck in too. I remember as a young teacher that the males on staff expected the women to make the tea at breaktime. As a coffee drinker, I had no intention of making tea that I wasn’t even going to drink, so when the first male walked into the staffroom after me, I politely pointed him in the direction of the kettle and teapot. From then on, whoever was first in made the tea or coffee for everyone else, regardless of whether they were male or female. On a more serious note, there was a report in the newspapers here a few days ago about an Irish trained surgeon (I’m ashamed to say), female, based in Sydney, who advised her female students to give in to the sexual advances of their superiors because it would be too damaging to their careers not to do so or to report the behaviour! I was appalled and outraged – this is wrong on so many levels, I can’t even express myself properly. It makes my blood boil that men still behave like this when in positions of power and that a female would advise her students to go along with it. It’s like she’s giving permission to the men to do this and I’m sure there are male students listening to her and storing the information away for the future. Sorry to go off track into a very serious subject but I feel very strongly about this, especially as I’m the mother of two daughters who are just setting off into the world of employment. Ok….time to breathe and stop ranting.
Lotus – your OH will have to think carefully before speaking in future! Dangerous waters!! I think it’s a brilliant idea to get rid of clothes that are too big and treat yourself to a new pieces, which are a great incentive to stay on track. Is there anywhere you could get your good suits altered if they are in too good a condition to give/throw away?
Gypsy – sorry to hear about your hero of a son, and glad that his mates are still keeping an eye out for you. Keep cosy and come safely through the storm.
Charlie’smum – so thrilled for you that you get to spend quality time with your amazing mum. I think that generation were made of great stuff! Enjoy this precious occasion.
Weighed in this morn…..one kilo down and 2cm off hips! Very pleased with that 🙂

Thanks Fit, SJ, on the show of support re OH. He’s supportive, but just a bit pessimistic whether “starvation” will work. Will all the weight come back when go back to normal? I wish I could starve lol! Semi-fast today as had to take a visiting out-of-town friend out to dinner. Ate carefully and logged in, daily total about 900 cals. Oh well, tomorrow’s another day…
Regarding capsule wardrobe – not my original idea, but really cool one though. If you all have time, take a look at http://www.outfitposts.com. This lady posts really good ideas on making outfits of existing clothes, and packing for a three-four week vacation in a carry-on. Pinterest has some good ideas too.
Can’t scroll up- but big congratulations to all “losers” ( weight / inches)!!!
And big hello and G’night all
Thinking of you dear Gypsybell. Stay safe.

AD is now 4th overall in most popular forum! Especially well done to CG for bringing us all together and keeping us going.

And yes, I do plan to alter where possible. I have sewing machine, so pants are doable, jackets will too expensive to alter…

    Time for a proper check-in…

So where have I been hiding? Had a bit of a health problem. Without going into too much detail, a diagnostic procedure turned into a surgical procedure, which included a nervous wait on a biopsy and a rather unpleasant post-op infection.

On the plus side, a trip to the Halls Gap Jazz Festival and a trip to Adelaide to celebrate the 30th birthday of the love of my life’s eldest child.

The yucky medical stuff involved a boring diet of bland stuff which nearly drove me mad.

Finally broke through the 88kg “glass floor” and have been consistently around 87.5kg.

Also broke through the 30 “obese” BMI and into the 29-something “overweight” bizzo. Another “tick that box” thingy.

Kept up the walking as much as possible under the circumstances. Today included a brisk 4km walk that burnt around 300 calories (according to Runkeeper).

Back to 5:2 next week Monday and Wednesday.

Fit, that makes my blood boil too, how dare anyone feel they have an upper hand or control over anyone. Whatever happened to team work no matter what the gender. Intimidation has no place in life let alone the work force I had it in my early working years and accepted it as the norm (needing the job and just hated it) these days there are so many avenues that can help but it should never happen in the first place. How dare they! It does make you wonder on their upbringing? Congratulations too on such a great weight loss, and the measurements, just makes your day doesn’t it.
Andrew sorry to hear of your problems and hope it’s all behind you. How wonderful to break through your plateau, hope it’s the start of better things.
Nighty nite team, good luck with your fast tomorrow 🙂 CG xx

By the way has anyone else noticed when you post, the page reverts back to the beginning of the thread instead to what you just posted?…CG xx

Yes CG, I’ve noticed that too. Bit of a nuisance. And yes, big congrats to you for being the ‘glue’ on this thread!!
Andrew – so glad that you are celebrating and enjoying life to the full following your health woes. Well done on your significant breakthrough on the weights and measures front too.
Lotus – you are doing all the right things and time will prove it! My OH doesn’t really comment on the diet or fast days but he always tells me that I look good no matter what. I would love him to give 5:2 a go for all the health reasons, as well as weight, but he has no interest whatsoever.
My French visitors are arriving in the morning so I will probably be off air for a while and when I do log on, it could be in french…or gobbledygook….because I don’t think my brain can handle a whole week of trying to speak french 24/7!! Wish me luck!!

Good morning team, Fit have a ball with your French friends, maybe they can do some French cooking for you too, and when you say we might not understand you after they go, are you fluent in French, how wonderful. Our 5:2 will help you with choices if you are eating out too, funny how embedded it is in our consciousness.
Fast day team for a lot of you, YOU CAN DO IT no matter what the weather either, it is cooling down now but perfect for steam fish or soup even stir fries. We will all start having to rethink our menus before too long and get away from salads. The warmer food should help with the chills a lot of us feel on fast days too.
Don’t sweat the small stuff team, let things roll off, enjoy YOUR life, try not to let others affect you, if you get negative responses to your 5:2, be happy in knowing you are the one coming out in front, you are the one looking after yourself. 🙂 and there is no need to explain to anyone.
Have a positive day, remember how far you have come, it makes your fast so doable. Your AUSSIE DETERMINATION is at it’s best in difficult times so use it, get bloody minded, and the results will be there for tomorrows weigh in. 🙂 CG xxx

    Hi all

Very happy this morning 2kg gone from Tuesday morning when I got back from Cairns. So one fast one healthly day and back to the gym. Just goes to show not fat fluid. So anyone that has a break be reassured it will drop off

CG I think new bathers are on the cards for you, you should find some bargains at the moment change of season.
Andrew welcome back I have mised something I think hope you are doing well.

Lotus, my hubby who really means well said to me last night, so now will you buy some nice clothes instead of what you have now. I know my shorts are all very big, but next summer I hope to be 2 sizes smaller, so why buy something now, if it doesn’t fit for next season. Anyway have a couple of pairs of jeans that are new and a few tops, and my work clothes I think I will be right.

Everyone take care we can do this

WOW Bali, congratulations, don’t cha just luv this way of life?
Just watching the news, I hope anyone living in or near Sydney is safe, what a huge storm you had last night.

Gypsy, the cyclone is so close, please be safe and know we are all thinking of you.
Golly Mother Nature is showing her strength lately.

Be safe team, put yourself first… CG xxx

    Congrats Bali!
Reporting safely from Sydney CG 🙂
Plan to do a fast day tomorrow and watch what goes in the old pie-hole today.
    Stay safe Gypsy

Anyone read the fast beach diet? Anyone tried it out? I bought the book, and plan to do it see if non FDs can be better tweaked.

CG – I’m learning french but far from fluent. I just meant that my head will be melted from trying to speak french all week and so I’ll probably not be able to think straight in English or any other language. I’m looking forward to showing my visitors the sights, but will probably blow all my calories on wine alone!! 😉
Didn’t realise storm had hit Sydney – hope all on this thread safe and my two nieces who live there, plus a nephew who lives not to far away.
    Wow Bali – that’s a brilliant loss…woohooo!!

Be interesting to see how you go Lotus, I’m still sticking to the original NO diet 5:2 or 4:3 so there are no restrictions on most days, let us know how you go, good luck 🙂 CG glad you are safe xxxxx

Oh what a lovely excuse Fit, I envy you 😆 CG xxx

Hi countrygal. Well done on your weight loss u have done so well. I need to get back into the diet got 2 stone to loose by September. I just seen that you have king Charles spaniel. So have I , I got a black and tan one. Hes lovely. I enjoy walking him. Im going to start bk sunday in 5 2.

Fit- Carry your phone with you, and use Google Translator 😉
CG, from a quick read, its 5:2 + Mediterranean diet on non fast days + exercise/active lifestyle – all for six weeks. We are doing A and C for most part, B – the Med diet, sounds like its worth investigating- for most part because it seems a healthy and balanced way of eating. Non FDs are my slip-spot. So, will work on it and report back…
P.S. Annoying how the thread goes back to Page 1 after every post!

Byrn, welcome to our thread, ahhh, another cavie lover. I’m up to number 6, I used to have a Samoyed, Elka, for 18 years, not many photos of my kids growing up without her in them, she was just family,, big job though, was given my first cavie when he was 8 mths old as the daughter got a staffie pup and preferred it, it was love at first site, an my addiction started. I have a ruby, Bailey, a Blenheim, Indy and of course a black and tan, Rocky 14mths old and my lap dog (sook) and just adore them all. They all have their own idiosyncrasies which makes them unique. Being on a property, no need to walk them, they adore the garden and playing out there.
Stay with our 5:2 AUSSIE DETERMINATION and we will support you all the way, unusually with a few laughs, or discussions on anything/everything but very family orientated. Looking forward to you posting your results… CG xx

    Morning all.
Andrew – blimey sounds like you’ve been through the mill, but good to know you have come out the other side in the 87s! Well done & hope all is well now.
Fit – enjoy your visitors, but don’t let them cook…..butter, cream & oh no, wine! Be strong but have a wonderful time with your friends.
    Bali – WOW great stuff
Lotus – planning to read it. Interested in what you think
Fit – you’re so right about our glue …thank CG.

Sorry Bryn, forgot to welcome you to 5:2! Your on the right track here. You will feel great, but unfortunately you will also have the horrible side effect of weight loss!!! Yay! I’m hooked & the forum is like having a bunch of friends along with you for the ride. Good luck & remember it gets easier the further in you go. CM

Morning all. Just to revert for a tic. Fit I heard that discussion with the female ? Vascular surgeon on the ABC a few days ago re the sexual harassment that still exists amongst the surgical community. It’s just outrageous. Did you hear that some surgeon from The Alfred has been stood down.
OK back to the 5:2. This morning a lugged a 5 kilo bag of flour up the stairs. Not only is it B heavy but bulky. So for those of us who have lost that amount of weight, and many more who have lost a lot more – we ARE doing a wonderful job. I am proud of you all and proud of myself too.
    Must dash.
    Cheers Doggy

OH MY GOODNESS!! Last logged onto this AD Thursday last week and have just spent a few hours reading to catch up – my eyes are sore – I just have to come in more often. OK so …

Welcome back Andrew – I wondered if you would resurface again – it is good to have a male perspective sometimes …

so my comments on past few pages of posts

Calling people girls doesnt rub as much as “Girlie” aargh! And I hate it how we speak of our Prime Minister as Tony or Julia (past times) or Kevin etc … no matter who holds this position, and no matter what we think of them and their policies, the position should demand respect and they should be called Mr, Miss or wahtever. It is the position that deserves the respect – Never heard Robert Menzies being called Bob wne he was being spoken to. Any way – ranting is over now.

Clothes – I take the too big ones to Salvation Army or Smith Family or whatever and donate and then buy more from the same place .. clears out the cupboard, benefits others through donation and benefits also with fund raising and less out of my pocket when I buy.. win win situation – will buy nice new ones when at my goal weight.

Welcome everybody who have joined since I last logged in …

I eat four bean mix and tinned tuna and a piece of fruit on FD. It is easy, portable and I dont have to think about what I am and am not eating – just grab the tins and go. Also have done some maths and as I try not to eat after 7pm at night and dont have breakfast I figure that I am fasting for 17 hours every day that is not a FD.

My thoughts to everybody who have had medical issues, family issues and my jealousy to those who are travelling or having visitors.

Anyway weigh in tomorrow – look forward to all yuor posts and how you are all going.

Ok let’s see how far back I need to go. Boy you really gotta post firs thing these days or you’re a goner!
Andrew welcome back after all your medical issues – and what a re-entry it was to AD. Such cryptic clues that drove me mad gogal! But great that you’re back onto 5:2 next week.
Yes CG thanks for your always wonderfully supportive, encouraging posts first thin every morning that get us going…and keep us together I reckon. Sets the mood.
Fit have fun with your visitors and your French, and remember that the 5:2 WOL is very forgiving as many of us have found after holidays/visitors etc. Body seems to bounce back much easier with 5:2 (Bali is proof of that !). So enjoy those wines & that food,, & make some sensible choices to balance it.
Bryn welcome and best wishes for your 2 stone loss. Stick with 5:2 & you’ll do ok.
Dogie what a great illustration for us – we have done well, haven’t we!

Ok have my big night out tonight – 60th party for my friend. Going to eat little today but not a FD. Meet for drinks first and then transfer to a restaurant – a Japanese tempura one, where at least I know the serves are small but there are 5 courses. So will see how I go. Just going to enjoy it and think about another fast tomorrow. Gotta have fun with this WOL – that’s its beauty!! It’s sustainable long-term which is wonderful. suejen

Hi Gang! So far so good, lots of heavy rain, but the trajectory (of cyclone Nathan) for land fall is about 300k’s further North at this point, other side of Cairns. (Bugga, surviving son is in Cairns!), but they reckon it’s going to veer out to sea again. They usually intensify when that happens, and come in again, somewhere further along. Ah, well, par for the North.

I am having a FD. finally found the konjak noodles in Woolworths, Yum, going good with my lean beef and tomato bolognaise sauce. only 220 cals so far.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and comments. Welcome to newbies. I’m sure I’ll be fine (and this old hut has withstood for 120 odd years). Getting the ghist that you are all doing amazingly well, but haven’t had time to read up all. We ARE growing at a rate of knots! And coming fouth! Great info Andrew! Sorry for your health issues, but glad you made it back.

Well done C! & G! (the gluggy glue girls!)

Agree re sitting on the fence about being a ‘girl’, CG,(it’s all in the context) but definitely won’t cop ‘girly’! And sexual harassment is a recipe for a put down few get up from in my orbit (the pen is more emasculating then a surgical instrument in the right hands..)I have sorted many a chauvinist out on the job front. NEVER accept gender abuse! the bigger they are the harder they fall! and someone is always their boss somewhere, follow the chain and go through the channels, (Or just record on your phone and stick it on an intercom if all else fails).
As to catering being considered the province of women (as barbeque is man’s business? tut, tut) one can easy fix that by presenting shop bought biscuits, (preferably stale),or something else equally un-appetizing. Only on throw away plates, no napkins and if savoury, always forget the salt and pepper. Which is usually what males do when it’s left to them.( and may I state there are many males who do love to cater and are exceptions to that sexist statement!) but most females can’t abide the male chauv’s version, or wax lyrical on the criticism, thus the males get off the hook! Have you ever thought they do it on purpose? Two can play that game.

Conversely, just ignore the command to do it, or refuse outright, (like they do,) We HAVE equal rights, it just remains to assert them on equal terms, that a male understands. And who cares if he doesn’t accept it? just don’t do it! If it’s not part of your job description, it’s a courtesy, either do it with a good grace because you want to, or not at all. I don’t do domestics. Everybody knows I don’t. Only the less perceptive are dumb enough to think it’s because I don’t know how! ( I mean, We didn’t have a central sterilizing department for theatre instruments when I started nursing, or an automatic pan flush, besides I started my career as a pantry maid… so how dumb can they be?) Just make your choice, girls. No need for a song and dance, just a bit of a grin and something like.. “In a pigs eye!” ..or “You looking for food poisoning?”…..”I don’t do domestics”… “Nope, you’re turn.”…”Hah! call for take out”..”You don’t need a cook, you want a CHEF, mate, check the male room…” etc…

I fear we will never lose discrimination until females stop expecting males to do all the changing. The younger generation don’t see the division so much and it is slowly disappearing on the job front. Vive` la dif’france, I reckon. I miss being a helpless little female.. (Can’t think who blew my cover…) Cheers, gotta go, the pot plants are floating…. It rains. xx Gyps

Can I add here that your posts, Gypsy, are always spot on?

To circle back to the start of the discussion on M/F division of labour, I would say that at work, we don’t often, have an overt sexism that only men do this or women do that, and that’s wonderful, but what I do notice is quite covert/subtle – the people who don’t want to clean up (and that includes some princesses and some men) simply walk out at the end of a function or leave a meeting room dirty, and receptionist or junior (and many times female) admin staff, are expected to clean up. I notice it, and try to stop it, but its there. And I have been told I am too protective of my team (as office manager) and “they need to fight their own battles” – I think they are no empowered to fight yet, and other more empowered people need to change by example.
OK, team! Rant over, I shall never get on this soap box again lol.

    Ahem, back to 5:2 😉

Thanks for the support countrygal. That be great I need help and support. Yeah I love cavaliers hes my 1st one. I have 3 small children and hes marvellous with them. How have you done altogether on 5 2 x

Thanks for welcoming me all. Im bk on 5 2 after the weekend. Wales are playing rugby so will have to support and watch my team with a few lagers lol. Then back to it sunday then on my journey to 2 stone. I will let u all know how I do and keep you updated on my fast days. Thanks all x

Bryn, I think I’ve eventually gotten off my plateau of 80k, last weigh in was 77.8k but one more fast Friday for me so will know Sat if I’ve beaten it. Overall, 5:2 is the best and easiest WOE ( way of eating) I have ever come across. It’s just so easy and doable and if you slip up, very easy to change days or do another fast, our 5:2 is so very forgiving and there is no need to throw in the towel because there is always tomorrow! A lot of diets in fact all diets are so restrictive and if you slip up, you think, oh buggar, I’ve blown it, and give up, but our 5:2 allows you to eat anything you want, just be cautious of portion sizes, and two days a week stick with 500-600cals, what could be easier? You can add an extra fast any time you wish to get back on track if you think you have over indulges and with clever food choices on fast days, never feel hungry or like you are dieting. So welcome back, we are all here for you. Enjoy your game, never understood rugby, enough sport in my life, and I hope your team wins.
Gypsy, try to keep your feet dry and watch out for the “joe blakes” 🙂 …CG xx

Thanks countrygal. Having a few friends over I am with some lagers and our country’s playing rugby. Rugbys big sport here in wales. im gona try fasting tomorrow though and monday and Thursday next week then weigh next friday. I will let u know how I get on. Would love to be size 10 for a wedding I have in Santorini in september im size 14-16 now. My friend who’s getting married has lost weight on slimming world but I have tried it and get bored of eating same thing. I do think 5 2 is the best because there is still variety.

Bryn, I wish my Mum was still alive, just to know I was talking to someone in Wales, she’d be over the moon. She is Welsh decent, adore the singing of course, played the music all the time, saw the Welsh choir a few times, her maiden name was Jones, so you can’t get more Welsh than that. My Dad was Scotts descent, so my dream is to go to England to do a tour of both Scotland and Wales….one day, ho hum…CG xxx
p.s. Enjoy your lagers, you can still have a few on 5:2 xx

Ah thats fab countrygal. South Wales im from. What country are you from. Uk is a lovely place. I avnt been to Scotland but I will go one day. wales is lovely mountains everywhere.
