  • Hi All!
What a great load of posts to read…..love it! So interesting and fun to read all about Australia Day and also Burns Night! What a contrast….especially in food πŸ˜‰
Milena, my maiden name is Murray, so we reckon we have Scottish ancestry. My parents and one sister even went to visit Blair castle, the ancestral home I believe! I’ve only been to Edinburgh but would love to see more. My dad climbed Ben Nevis when he was in his 70s!
PH, delighted that you’re getting used to your new bed and I’m sure it will do your back lots of good.😴 I’m so jealous that you never seem to be under pressure to stay below your TDEE, I have to really watch out on nfds or I’ll easily go over.
Dawg, love the poem and agree with the sentiments! How wonderful that your move has benefited your health….that makes it all worthwhile I’m sure. πŸ˜€
SJ, you make my mouth water with the delicious variety of tasty food that you just ‘whip up’! πŸ˜‹
Barb, you really are strong, focussed and determined and you will succeed. As others have said, stick with us here and we will support you all the way. We know that certain meds make it more difficult but you will get results if you keep on plugging away πŸ’ͺπŸ˜€
Jade, great to hear you got the hunger dragon under control, well done! I managed to persevere too and my dragon is under sedation…for now, anyway! πŸ‘Ή
AA, you’re doing a great job, loved barramundi when I was in Oz, you can’t go far wrong when you have fish πŸ‘
CG, lots of great advice for Barb and everyone as usual. Hope you enjoy your pork chop, I’m not a fan of pork really but my butcher does a lovely rolled stuffed joint which I roast and that’s very tasty mmmmmπŸ˜‹
I’m off to the cinema today to see the film ‘Room’, which has an Irish director and has been nominated for a few Oscars. I read the book ages ago and was very impressed. The only problem with going to the cinema is that I have to have some nibbles, usually chocolate because I can’t stand popcorn! Must try and make it fit into my TDEE….wish me luck!

Aargh! I made a mistake. My TDEE is a whopping 2523. It was my bmr that was 1850. This is because I weigh a lot and I put light exercise as I walk 11500 steps a day. I’ve been eating 1550 cals a day – how on earth do i eat 1000 more???? I’ve always weighed heavy and don’t look my weight if that makes sense. Anyway I can’t bring myself to eat that much every day. What do you suggest??
    Thanks
    Anne

I love popcorn FIT I couldn’t go to the cinema and not have some. 😁😁 AA, try changing your light exercise to seditary and see what the results are. I walk a lot during the day but do not count that as exercise unless I actually “go for a walk” if a you know what I mean. I have had knee problems for a couple of years and try to get a lot of steps in during the day. I read in the instructions that we usually over estimate the exercise we do so maybe that’s the secret? Just a thought. Mine says 1635 but I am sticking the around 1200. Barb xxx

    Thanks Barb,
I go for 2 proper walks a day; 40 mins in the morning and nearly an hour at night and I try to up my heart rate when I walk. As I have a desk job I get very few incidental steps during work hours. I read the description of each level of activity and this fitted with light exercise. If I go sedentary it’s still 2202 😯.

i could stick to my 1550 or increase it to say 1800 to try and reduce the difference but I feel ok at 1550…..

If you feel good at that, well that’s where you should be. As everyone says, this is for life. B

AA, if you can eat that much below your TDEE then I’d go for it. You have still a lot of leeway at the sedentary level. Track your progress for the next few weeks and see how you get on. If you are losing consistently then there’s no need to pay much attention to those figures. As they say, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it ‘ !
Barb, it’s no hardship for me not to have popcorn, I can’t even stand the smell of it! But guess what? I didn’t have chocolate either, I don’t think that has ever happened before!!! So, I’m feeling very proud and thrilled. I am proving to myself that I can change the habits of a lifetime and I don’t have to stick in the same old rut, yippee!πŸ’ͺβœŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ˜‡

Well done FIT I don’t think I could be so strong re the popcorn. BπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Morning/evening team,. must be the year of the iPad, I used a new cable I bought from Telstra, had it on overnight to recharge and it’s still dead! mmmmmm, so I’m trying the old cable this morning, which wasn’t an Apple, just a cheap one and even though it was slow, it worked, fingers crossed! I am so used to my ipad, using the computer really feels like “the big screen” Even the keypad feels enormous, yet I did have trouble with the ipad keypad in the beginning.
Annie, I agree with staying with the lower TDEE, if you are satisfied, why add more food. The less you eat, the more you lose.
Barb, 1200 is very low, especially in the beginning, if you restrict yourself so much you will feel a failure when times happen that you go over. If that happens, just tell yourself, you are allowed to. Again, stay where you are comfortable and if you find it doable for the long term, well that’s great but is it sustainable?.
I stuck with 1200 originally, for a couple of months, but joining 5;2 switched to my actual TDEE and with the two fasts per week, found I lost more weight. That way, you get the real feats/famine effect.
Fit, how wonderful you don’t need snacks at the movies, it’s the easiest place to feed our faces so good on you in not needing it. I think the Scott’s must have been good breeders, not too many of us have none of their blood in our heritage, even you Irish.
    Missing my icons!
Well, I’m doing my second fast today, with the pool and gym shortly, more torture, but today just suits my routine better. It also gives me elbow room to do another if I want on Friday. Plus it gets the fasts out of the way for the week a lot quicker and as long as we do two fasts in seven days, it still works. I don’t believe in making this way of eating too restrictive as the diet syndrome starts to show it’s head as in feeling deprived then gorging oneself. I want this weight to be gone for good,(as most of it is has)and all the dangerous fat gone for good, so making 5;2 doable and sustainable…for me anyway…is making it as easy as possible. Of course healthy eating on my non fast days is where the secret is, so calculating treats into my TDEE make it all so easy. I rarely go a day without using MFP to keep check, it’s such a habit now, I usually plan the night before, and if things alter, I rob Peter to pay Paul as the day goes on. As in change the menu to suit the TDEE.
Have a great day team, hang in there if fasting, I hope there isn’t too many heavy heads from yesterdays celebrations. I had a terrific day just cleaning and playing catch up around the house. No home care on public holidays so she didn’t come yesterday, and my home just never felt right….but it does now, I pulled so many things out and gave things a really good go, you FEEEL the difference.
You are what you think team, so think positive, YOU CAN DO THIS,we know it works, we are human and make mistakes, but BRING IT ON…..we are up for the challenge, we are AUSSIE DETERMINATION, and know how to make it work…xxxxxxxxxx

    Mornin CG!
I might join you in fasting tomorrow, Wednesday, as I’m going out for lunch on Thursday for our monthly get together with the ladies who used to help look after my dad. In fact, one of them is now helping to look after my sister. But that will affect my weigh in on Friday because I won’t have fasted the day before and I really want to get an accurate reading. Oh, well, it’s not the end of the world.
Hope you get your iPad sorted, but be careful of other cables and chargers, I just saw a warning about them being a fire hazard.
Yes, I’m pleased to have changed my mindset about having to snack at the movies……it’s all in the mind and it feels good to get control of that.
The film was superb and the screenplay was written by the author of the book so that made it very faithful to the book. The actors who played mother and son were amazing, particularly the young boy. I hope it picks up a few oscars.🎭🎬
My OH is having a great time in France meeting up with the neighbours and being invited to their homes, we are very lucky to be part of such a warm and welcoming community. I’m a bit jealous, not to mention bored and lonely……the days are long and the weather is so miserable. We have another yellow warning in place for the next few days. πŸŒ§πŸ’¨Ok, time to stop whining and find something to do πŸ€”

G’day aussies and honorary aussies how was YOUR day? I didn’t actually get to do MFP till the end of the day but thankfully I was only about 40 over my TDEE. And that was with several wines a mini pav (was yum) and BBQ chicken with BBQd sweet potato chips. Both kunch & dinner had salads so that helped. Had a lovely swim at the beach again though wasn’t so happy finding out later that they had 5 shark sightings yesterday in that area and actually posted signs on the beaches YIKES! I didn’t see any when I went but not nice to read. Not that I’m a strong enough swimmer to head far out at all.
Today thankfully is back to a normal NFD so back to my sparkling mineral water & no wine. Funny I don’t even miss it (but DO enjoy those social/special events!). They say the trick when you remove one habit is to replace it with another one so that’s what the sparkly water & rhe wine glass does. If you just leave a vacuum it wil be too hard & you’ll drift back.

Have to finish here as my mobile’s playing funny bu##@@@ on me again if I scroll back. So…have s good NFD all and stick to your TDEE. It does make a difference. If you don’t do that then practise your portion control especially any treats you may have. Whatever you do remember you’re setting yourself up for a good week….not just eating for today!! Suejen xxxx

Well done on staying so close to your TDEE, SJ, especially having lots of treats included. How scary to hear about those sharks when you have just come from a swim……..eek!⚠️🏊😱 I must try your advice about replacing a bad habit with something else….very good idea!πŸ˜€

Fit so glad you did manage to find a carer (or more?) to look after your sister & take the pressure/stress off you. Fasting Wed sounds like a good plan for your week. Hope you’ve found some things to do to fill in the vacuum while OH is away – practise your French maybe? Hey you sure had a win over that chocolate at the movies…that’s a great achievement. Now work on that one Fit & you’ll win the battle on your NFD’s!
Ah CG more torture for you but hope that instructor is a bit kinder to your glutes today! Boy sounds like you sure got stuck into things yesterday – your place will be sparkly too. Have a successful FD CG & prepare yourself for those last few kilos to come off πŸ™‚
Fit I too had a win yesterday. I bought a peppermint crisp yesterday thinking I’d have a treat on my NFD. But then I planned all this special food for Ozzy Day & didn’t think it would fit into my day. So….I put it in the fridge saw it several times but just ignored it & kept on with what I was doing. Now THAT’S a big win for me….to be able to leave a special treat alone (especially chocolate) for a whole day!! But…I will have it today and I will track it into MFP to make sure it fits. ALL GOOD!!!
Planning a nice long walk today so it will be 2 HB eggs & some salad each in ziplock bags in my backpack & some water. OH has picked up some of my good habits. Probably walk along the coast & maybe sight some sharks eh??!! But would prefer to see some more friendly sealife. Only 3 more days till I go back to work for just 3 weeks & then I’m done! Will be glad to do so. So I’d better enjoy my lazy mornings etc.
MAKE TODAY COUNT FOLKS. IT WON’T COME AGAIN. THAT FOOD THAT’S CALLING YOU IS WAITING TO BE TOLD…GET LOST I’M IN CONTROL HERE πŸ™‚ suejen XXXX

Hi all, back from the pool and boy did he give us a workout today. Did not stop for the whole hour. Said it was a. Extra special endurance day to make up for what we indulged in on Australia Day. Just his excuse to get us moving a little bit more. Can’t complain as the 95 year old lady in the class kept up. She is a legend. πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ‘πŸ‘
Fast day for me too today as tomorrow I have Bridge and Coffee/brunch afterwards. Fit now that I do Monday and Wednesday’s I weigh on the Thursday so that it is the same as before. Weighing the morning after the 2nd fast day of the week. I consider that to be the most accurate reflection of weight loss for the week. Hoping to see some loss this week after my gain last week. Also regarding me being needing to eat more to get up to my TDEE I cut out most sweets, cakes, biscuits a number of years ago and don’t have any in The house at all. I also try not to eat any wheat so no bread. Just mountain bread wraps if I need a quick lunch. Mostly have salads though. So have not been eating a lot for quite a while before I started 5.2 hence the 13kg loss before I started. I do have a treat sometimes like a gluten free cake now when I go out for coffee. Seem to have lost my sweet tooth though and can easily have coffee with nothing else. So to eat extra have to add more protein.

Do you have a house in France? Wow!!

SJ. Scary about the Sharks. How far do you go out. I have not been swimming in the ocean since my big operation on my hip. Told in no uncertain terms by my doctor not to..Used to love going out and catching waves to body surf back to the beach. Probably would not want to do that now with the increase in shark attacks.

Have a great NFD today..enjoy the freedom. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ€—πŸ€—

SJ, I’m afraid the lady I spoke of has been helping to look after my sister for quite some time now and we are still looking for someone extra. However, we have another person in mind whom we will meet up with next week to see if she’s interested…..fingers crossed!
Funny you should suggest practising my French, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing this evening! For my class tomorrow, we each have to bring an interesting or unusual object and talk about it.
Well done on resisting the chocolate, woohoo! You’re establishing some great habits for you and your OH, good on ya! Look forward to your retirement, it’s going to be a wonderful exciting new chapter in your life xx

Hi PH, sounds like you were put through your paces alright but I’m sure you’ll feel the benefit. If I do fast tomorrow I’ll follow your example and weigh in on Thursday, sounds like a good plan. Yes, we are lucky enough to have a house in France, it’s not very luxurious but it has everything we need and our neighbours are lovely people and great fun πŸ˜ƒ

Hi team. I’ve had th devil of a job logging on this morning. It’s no doubt that gremlin that tends to lurk about. Well once again we seem to be experiencing the country of drought and rains. – for our honoury Aussies this is from a well known Australian poet. After many months of drought we’ve got showers today, a storm forecast for later and then two days of possible heavy rain. Needless to say we need the rain desperately but do not need floods. Rain is also forecast for those areas that still have fires burning but I don’t think it’s supposed to be all that heavy there. Mores the pity. The last I heard was that New Zealand firefighters were coming to help our poor exhausted people.
Milena to hark back to your Robbi Burns night. What is exactly in Haggis? Also neems was it? Being of Scots ancestor I don’t eat offal and I think Haggis has that as an ingredient. Each to their own what.
AA as to your quiet high TDEE. I agree with what other have said. The more calories we consume the more weight we gain. That TDEE does seem high. I used to be a bit eater but could not eat that amount with comfort.
I’m off to town for a haircut and colour this arvo. I’m feeling like a drab, shaggy sheep so think the hairdo will boost the old morale.
I’ve got myself sorted for another FD tomorrow. I’m also going to buy in some extra supplies in case we get cut off due to flooding. We have a low causeway we need to cross to get into town and that becomes impassable when we have heavy rain. Oh damn I’ve just heard my microwave beeping, I hope it doesn’t mean a power outage.
    XX Doggy

PH I don’t go far out at all – just beyond where I can touch the bottom, then I swim ALONG the beach…not out. But here’s a photo of the shark at that beach yesterday – not far enough away in my books!!!!!!!!!! Blimey!

Shark at Gnarabup photo Shark at Gnarabup Beach.jpg

Wow! SJ, what an amazing photo and that shark definitely was waaaaay too close! Eeeeeek! Looks like you had a very narrow escape indeed.
Dawg, it’s dreadful to think that the places that need rain don’t get it. I hope the extra help brings much needed relief. Enjoy the hairdo, I’m sure you will feel and look terrific afterwards. I always find it a great pick-me-up.

Eeek, I’m gone all day and I open the thread to sharks!! Holy moly…that beach is beautiful otherwise though. Yikes SJ yes that is a little too close!!! Well done on leaving the treat in the fridge – very impressive.
And almost as shocking is to hear that someone went to the movies and didn’t have popcorn OR chocolate – nice work, Fit! Like Barb, I’m a big fan of movie popcorn – and chocolate, too. And I would love to hear more about your wonderful neighbors in France, sounds so ideal. OH there was a news report here about all the flooding in Galway – hope you are not quite that soaked.
CG know what you mean, when my iPad died I felt as though I was driving a Buick with this big clunky laptop. I’ve gotten used to it but sure do miss the emojis! I like your explanation of robbing Peter to pay Paul – I had a 300-cal treat today and felt like a boss with still plenty of cals for a decent dinner. All thanks to the 4 Ps, because my light lunch was HB egg, some 15-cal corncake things, and an apple. Felt full on 300-some-odd cals.
PH your β€œpool boy” sounds like he’s putting you through quite the time, with a full hour! I may follow you with a FD also tomorrow too – how many is that, now? CG, PH, Fit, and …?
Doggy, you are going from famine to feast with the weather…. Too bad it can’t all be directed right into the fires. Wish I could join you for a haircut, I’m a shaggy sheep as well, but she cut mine sooo short last time I don’t dare go again until it grows a bit more.
Sorry to ramble, gang – Tuesdays are a crunch for me, 4 different classes and students queueing up outside my office all day. Wonder how I even had the time to eat an egg πŸ™‚ Looking forward to team-fasting tomorrow! xxx

Hi team, ipad problem was the adapter which came with it, so bought another and it’s fine, so even Apple equipment goes wonky!
Suejen, that’s too close for comfort, give me the pool any day, only sharkes in them have two legs!😏 I used to love the beach and find with age caution took over, now I see why. And with your retirement, shout it from the roof tops. You will find, like the rest of us retirees, you will begin to wonder where you ever found time to go to work, so into count down, three weeks and it’s over yohoooo!πŸ˜ƒ I hope they have a lovely send off planned for you……
Doggy enjoy the pampering, I’m pleased you kept trying to get on it’s a pain. I’m with you on the rain, desperately needed here too, but with no damage! I heard this morning they are evacuating more towns because of the fires, it’s just awful, the heartache those people are feeling plus the worry of the unknown is dreadful. They don’t know if their home will still be there when they go back…..oh and the animalsπŸ˜₯
Fit, I’d be putting on a movie with my feet up! Golly, take advantage of being your own person, you run after so many so often, time to relaxπŸ˜ƒ I hope the new carer comes off for you, it’s a hard situation and you need someone you have faith in and can trust….all the best sweet oneπŸ˜‰πŸ’•
PH, I think all our trainers got their heads together, no sympathy for us oldies, just dish it out and see if they take it. Im so damn sore, the couch will be very comfortable shortly for my Nanny nap! Oh golly she pushed us, my glutes are so sore you wouldn’t believe it possible, feel like I was kicked by a mule! Guess I’m doing the exercise correctly though……any way, no more till MondayπŸ˜€
My fast is going okay, I felt sick when I got home so had a small tuna salad and a black coffee, haven’t put it on MFP yet but it will be fine, bit of chicken and veg fir dinner I think…….Tomorrow I’ll be glad I did it todayπŸ˜‰πŸŒ·xxxxxxxx

Just checked my calendar…seven weeks today before I fly to Sydney for our reunion team, getting closeπŸ˜€πŸ’•xxxxx

Hi all – going well so far. Only coffee at 3pm then my two hard boiled eggs at 5.30. Looking forward to chicken and veg for dinner also CG. Keep strong everyone doing Fast Day……get back to you all laterπŸ’œπŸ€—

Only 4.5hrs left on my first fast day. So far so good. I’m at 480 so have enough for one sugarless marie biscuit to have with a cuppa later on. I do wonder if I made the right decision to split the calories over 3 meals fairly evenly and just have a bare steamed barramundi fillet for dinner. Dinner will end up the lowest meal. I did feel like murdering a few people at work due to the ‘hangries’ (the women in my family get angry when hungry so we came up with the term to fit the mood) but kept my mouth shut and nobody got hurt. πŸ˜‰
I think I’ll go to bed early though. Generally I’m a bit of a night time grazer and leave a goodly amount of calories for the evening, It was no harder or easier than I thought it would be and my poached egg and toast held me till lunchtime but only just. The veg curry held me till dinner but only just and I went for a walk to hold off dinner till 7:15 so the night won’t seem so long.

Have a good night all, but esp those who are starving like me.
    Anne πŸ˜€

Well done Annie, change it around next time, you will learn when to eat differently with each fast, I don’t eat breakfast, on any day, so my first meal is between 11:00 and 2:00…. Just practice, plus if I’m busy, even around home, I do forget to eatπŸ˜€ but I make up for it after my first meal, once I eat, I just want food. That dragon wakes and it’s a fight all arvo😟 but I can “usually” winπŸ˜ƒ……xxxxxx

    Hi All!
Another bad night’s sleep for me…..two nights in a row waking at about 4am and then unable to get back to sleep for about three hours. I don’t think it’s the rain, although that has been torrential…..thankfully my part of the country, (I’m near Dublin, Jade), has been the least affected. Along the south and west coast has been the worst hit, I’ve never seen anything like it.πŸ’¨πŸŒ§β˜”οΈ
Jade, the French neighbours had always been polite but we didn’t get much beyond greetings and a few words about the weather in the beginning, partly due to our poor French. Then about six years ago we brought our dog with us and since the French love their dogs, this led to more people talking to us. One particular lady took us under her wing and invited us to meet her circle of friends and now we’re invited to all their homes and to local events that we probably wouldn’t have even heard of before. That lady, her husband and her best friend came to stay with us here for a week last year……we had a wonderful time showing them the sights.
CG, great to hear that you got your iPad sorted. I must say I’m loving mine although I’m still feeling my way around it. I’m still trying to get Skype sorted and photo bucket up and running, but I’ll get there. Your glutes will be very well toned for the reunion, you’ll have to wear figure hugging outfits to show them off after all the torture! πŸ‹ Yes, the time is flying by until the reunion. I can’t wait to hear how you all get on together and what high jinks ye get up to! It will be epic!πŸŽΌπŸ·πŸ½β˜•οΈπŸΉπŸ‘œπŸ‘ πŸ‘—
    PH, you’re playing a blinder, well done!πŸ‘πŸ‘
AA, I have started getting the ‘hangries’ too during the last few fds. I’m putting it down to sugar withdrawal although I’ve only started feeling like this lately. But being aware is good so you can recognise that and hopefully not take it out on others!😑
I’m not in the humour to fast today so I think I’ll try a semi and do a proper fast tomorrow despite going out for lunch…. I can just have a bowl of soup with the other ladies.
Big hello to everyone else, especially Up, Gyps and Noots…..haven’t seen ye here for a while…..hope all going well for ye!πŸ˜€β€οΈ

Hello all. Just back from my Sydney trip and I am pleased to report I made it this time with 18 calories to spare!! I was over with my sugar and protein according the MFP but I also fitted in an ice cream from McDonald’s. I’m a happy camper. So many posts during today, sharks, my goodness I only have to worry about snakes here. AA and others who get grumpy because they feel hungry, I felt like that but CG is right, the longer you put off eating the better you are although I must admit I have about 4 coffees and gallons of water (feels like it anyway) before I actually eat anything so that fills up my morning.
When is your reunion CG, I was thinking I might be on my way to Vietnam then but thought if I am coming to Sydney to catch the plane I may be lucky enough to meet you all or at least those attending. Sugar withdrawal, someone said lemon in the water curbs that craving and it worked for me. PH the pool workout sounds gruesome, I’m hoping the water Zumba I try on Friday will be a little kinder than your “pool boy”.
FIT I am still suffering from insomnia but have done for years. I don’t take sleeping pills but do take Restivit, melatonin, and sometimes if I have a bad headache I take strong headache pills, (not all at once though) they also give me some relief from insomnia. OH said its all in my head……depending upon how much sleep I have had when he makes that comment I either ignore him or tear strips off him. Either way, it’s not good.
Anyway good evening/morning to all. FD for some of us tomorrow….oops it’s 12:03am so it’s today Good luck. Barb xxx

Great news Barb, on how well you did while on your trip! Well done!πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘ I’m sure CG or GG will give you the details of the reunion and how to get in touch to meet the gang for a meal or drinks….it would be wonderful I’m sure. Sleep well 😴

Hi all,It’s been a while since I posted due to extreme bussyness. Wanted to wish all the Aussies a happy Australia Day on the 26th but couldn’t get a signal. It was supposed to be my fast day but we went out to a bbq and then out to lunch yesterday, Wednesday,so I will have to make up for it on Friday. It’s just clicked over to Thursday here and I’m wide awake after two hours of sleep.
I seem to be gaining and losing the same couple of kilos so will try 16:8 on my non fast days. As someone wrote, it seems to be harder when you have less kilos to lose, as I want to get rid of the seven kgs I gained when my husband was so ill with lymphoma last year. Fortunately he has recovered and is now in remission. He’s feeling well enough to start small renovations around the house. The new induction cooktop looks great and I am learning how to use it, with my you beaut new saucepans. It’s so quick to heat up, as good as gas I’ve been told. Anyway, feeling more tired and going back to bed now. Goodnight.

Hi all, I’m joining those who are having trouble sleeping. I waa so tired last night that I went to bed at 8.00 and straight to sleep …wide awake now at 12 30…at least I have H’s four and a half hours of good sleep.

Annie, well done.πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ‘πŸ‘..it is very difficult that first fast. Especially when you are used to having breakfast. I would like to share with you what I found the best way to fast when I started considering that we are both similar in weight. could I suggest that you make a miso soup for your fast day from the recipe on the Aussie Determination Recipe Thread (66 cals) whole batch , the vegetables in the recipe made it feel like you are having something substantial. When I first started I would make up a batch and have that with 50 g grilled chicken for lunch.(50 cals ) or a HB egg (70cals) Then just heat up the rest of it when I got the munchies during the afternoon. Easy to heat up in a cup in the microwave like a cup of coffee to drink/eat at your desk. Then you should have enough calories to have some more veg or salad with your fish at night. Not sure what work you do or even if this is possible, just a suggestion. This would leave you more cals for Dinner so you could have some green veg and some sweet potato with your fish..over time I ate my breakfast later and later and trained myself not to eat before lunch. I did this by having my 2 boiled eggs with me and drinking lost of water util I was really hungry. Before I knew it I was having my eggs for lunch and not needing to add the chicken with the soup. I now can do the same as CG and not having my trusty eggs till late In the day, as long as I have my coffee sometime..
And now I also don’t eat until about 11am most days. This makes your fast days much easier as you can then skip breakfast and divide the cals up for the rest of the day. I found it took around four fast days off feeling hungry and then everything seemed to get much better. I am confident that with the commitment
You have showed so far in losing what you already have and your commitment to exercise that you will smash this new way of eating very soon. πŸ˜‹πŸ€—πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸ’œπŸ’œEnjoy your non fast day tomorrow. 😘

SJ loved the picture of the shark..how on earth did you get it? And yes much to close for comfort in my books.
Doggy, the news today says that the fires near Launceston are finally under control. Not such good news for the north west coast though. Hope you get some good rain.πŸŒ§πŸŒ§πŸŒ§β˜”οΈβ˜”οΈ
Noots. Welcome to the midnight wide awake club.. I too an trying 16.8 on My. On fast days to break a plateau. Good luck. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹
Barb..well done on your tripπŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‡. Regarding the reunion. We will by at the Oaks Darling Harbour from I think the 16th March, some of us 3 days and some of us 5 days. GG or CG will certainly fill you in with more exact details (memory not wonderful especially at this time of the night) Would live to meet you if that coincides with your travel.

FIT. Good luck with your fast day when you feel in the mood to do it..πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ Just so jealous of you having a house in France to Visit. Where is it in France??? Your neighbours sound wonderful. I have had two trips to France and loved it. We rented a little cottage In a little village of Muton (probably wrong spelling) for a week and it was wonderful . Then we went to Ax en Provence for a walking tour.

Getting drowsy so will try for some more shuteye!πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Jade. Good luck with yours too. You must be very good at multi-tasking..seem to be one very busy lady..you are an inspiration!πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’œ

Barb, 18 cals to spare, nicely done! Hope you do get to catch some of the WTF in Sydney. I do the lemon water and it does dial back the crazy quite a bit for me, even mid-drool eyeing the biscuits. Had to laugh at you tearing strips off OH, yes sometimes the choice is hard!

Fit so sorry too about your sleeping problems – definitely not a great time for a FD, treat yourself to some comfort food then maybe curl up with a book and take a blissful nap. Thanks for the French neighbor news, they sound like angels but also didn’t they get lucky to meet you πŸ™‚ – sounds like one of those serendipitous friendships where all feel lucky.

CG I’ve been kicked (and bitten) by a mule, so I know the feeling! Isn’t it funny, as much physical work as we do all the time – and I know you must do with your farm – the trainer will find some muscles that haven’t gotten the workout. Devious, those trainers….

Annie, CG always has great advice – find what suits you on a FD. I’d never had a real lunch on a FD before Monday, but I was not happy that evening w/so few cals left – very hangry indeed. All I did was wake up the hunger dragon for a few bits of cabbage. He was pretty hangry too. Definitely the one evening meal is best for me.

Hi Noots – wonderful to hear how well your husband is doing, hooray for remission! If there is any justice in the world, your extra kgs will come off quickly and easily. The new cooktop sounds like fun – lots of veggies in its future.

PH did you make it through? I’m on the fast train today with my HB eggs, not sure who is riding. Need to rearrange my schedule so I can do Sundays, as I must put the good smack-down on my post-Sat-night-cocktail marathon nibbling. All things are possible πŸ™‚ xxxxx
ps: HA I knew you were out there PH – we crossed – will catch up later.

Noots, so good to hear from you again. Life has a habit of getting in the way at times but you are doing well and are full of positivity and determination. I wish your OH continued good health and I’m sure as things get back into a more normal routine for you, the weight loss will come too. Enjoy your new hob, it sounds fab!
PH, our house is on the west coast of Normandy, about an hour south of Cherbourg and an hour 1/2 from Le Mont St. Michel. We are very near the coast and there are fabulous long beaches very close by, miles of dunes to walk the dog and lovely villages with outdoor markets every week. It’s very peaceful and relaxing.
Jade, thank you for the compliment. I’m sure I’ll sleep well tonight, I often have a bad night or two and then a few good ones…..at least I have nothing to get up for in the morning so I don’t get too stressed out about it. Best of luck with the fasting today and Sunday…..brave woman!

Fit your place in France sounds so gorgeous – I am literally sitting here at my desk dreaming about sojourning near the French beaches. Ah…too far away for me to even fathom. At least we have some sunshine here today! Winter has been a bit dreary with the gray skies.

PH I too wondered how SJ’s shark photo was obtained – maybe she jumped that high in the air when she found she’d been swimming with that fellow? I’ve been in the ocean near the jellyfish before and almost ran above the water getting away from them.

Speaking of being at my desk…I suppose I should work! Hope you sleepy ladies get some well-earned rest soon – zzzz xxxx

Thanks for the fasting advice. I’ll try to hold off brekkie for a while but I have meds to take so can’t really skip a meal entirely. I used to skip breakfast every day but I had to re-train myself into it as I have pills to take before and after every meal for at least the next 6 months. The veg curry was great but I’ll work on getting the calories down with the veg I use and I could cut the portion size. I can turn my poached egg and toast into 2 boiled eggs and snack on those in the morning. I just need to put more effort into thinking about the possibilities. Having been a ww many times over I know how many calories are in most foods off by heart.
Today is my work Christmas lunch and hopefully I can pick fish or salad. I basically live on fish these days which I enjoy immensely.
    Have a good day all
Ps 0.5kg came off yesterday. Pretty pleased with that 3.7 to go and I’m under another zero
    Ax

Good morning/evening team, beautiful morning here, a lot of Melbourne and surrounding areas had heaps of rain, in fact Geelong was badly flooded and a man was hit by lightening yesterday, God did not see fit to give us any…NONE! I’m sure we will get ours sure in due course, but even the skies are blue, nothing threatening at all.
Doggy, I hope Tassie got it’s fair share, especially around the area suffering from the fires.
Noots, well done and how lovely having a new kitchen and toys to play with πŸ˜€ new gadgets can be fun or a pain, but some AUSSIE DETERMINATION will have you using it all like a pro. I wish your O/H continued good health.
Barb, the reunion is from Wed 16 March through to the Sunday night. We are staying at Darling Harbour πŸ˜ƒ and you are more than welcome to join us, maybe for a meal. The hotel is The Oakes.
So much insomnia happening team, I had an awful bout for around a week or more, only last month I think, but having decafe or hot chocolate before bed has certainly made the difference. I almost need a crow bar to get out of bed now as I sleep so well and so heavyπŸ’€ I know when I first started 5:2 sleepless nights happened a lot on fast days, I just had so much energy, and my mind wouldn’t settle, but it did pass and even now I have the odd one, but they are awful, and the night is so bloody long! Doggy suggested earlier on to try Magnesium, which I now take daily so don’t know if it helps or not but sleeping or lack of is intermittent now.
With the hungries, wait, wait, wait, give it 10-15 minutes, if you are still hungry, have something, protein preferably, calculate the cals to add to your tally for the day, and sit quietly and have it, make it count, don’t guts it or shove it down, enjoy it! And don’t feel guily afterwards. As I said yesterday, I do rob Peter to pay Paul on MFP so you can do that with whatever you had, take something off your evening meal!
Fit your holiday home sounds perfect, you have often said it’s not much, but hay….it’s yours and offers peace, wonderful neighbours, a scenic atmosphere, and away from routine so be proud of it.We had an old caravan with a large annex on site, bought it on site, but it offered a cheap holiday away from the grind of the week and I loved it, it was warm, cosy and clean. In fact I loved it in winter when no tourists were around, just empty caravans, and we had the park to ourselvesπŸ˜€ yet the regulars were so warm and friendly, we had happy hour far too often, but love every minute of it.
It was only one and a half hour from home so would go down Friday night after work and return Sunday arvo. I hope your enjoying your “me” time πŸ˜ƒ doing whatever takes your fancy.
My fast went very well yesterday, sitting bang on 73k today, my loss is very slow now as I’m close to where I’ll stay I think, 65-67 whatever happens, not too bothered, but will fast again Friday (or a semi) Friday I seem to struggle with, like a kid last day of school before the holidays!
Good luck to you who are fasting, remember eating is habit, not need and most of the time, just thirst. When you eat, do it slowly, savour it and make it count πŸ˜€…..enjoyπŸ’xxx

Annie, the more carbs, such as bread you drop and replace with protein, to keep you full, the better πŸ˜ƒ having full cream milk in your morning coffee for starters πŸ˜‰, I too take meds daily, but altered them to lunch time. A hard boiled egg would be enough for brekkie with a milky coffee, so hang in there and don’t be afraid to try different combinations, have a positive day Annie and stay happy πŸ˜€πŸŒ·xxxxxx

Hi team, weighed again (after my morning constitution) and 72.6k but just been asked out for lunch, quite impromptu so it will be lovely, very very humid here, so unsure what the menu is at the cafe but hope it’s light πŸ˜ƒ glad I fasted yesterday, no gym or plans today, we plan to fossick first, op shops and nurseries so very relaxed “me” time 😊xxxxxxx

Hello everyone. I’m happy to say that we have had an great bucketing of rain over the past 12 to 16 hours. With had a total of almost 40 mis and more forecast for the next few days. Unfortunately Northwest Tasmania where all the files or seem to have had three little rain. I am writing this with great difficulty as I have Pepperdraped over my lap and am I’m using a combination of Siri and typing with one finger. and Siri you are still a bloody idiot!,
Wow SJ that shark was a tad too close for comfort. We had a Great White sighted in the vicinity recently and the cops closed all the beaches and prevented people from swimming. Not so long ago one grabbed a surfer off her board. Her cousin heroically gave it a almighty smack on it’s nose and pulled her onto his board. He managed to catch a wave back to the beach and would you believe it the shark followed them and only gave up when realised it was in very shallow water. She only received minor injuries and is back surfing I’m told.
FD here too. It’s now almost 11 am and I’ve not had anything to eat. It’s a new strategy for me as I got very hungry mid afternoon on Monday. I plan to have 2 HB eggs and some fish for brunch. That way I’ll have quite a lot of lee way calorieswise so I can have a good filling supper.
My pampering went well yesterday and I’m happy with my colour and cut. I didn’t want a jaw dropping change in colour. Just something subtle.
    XX Doggie

CG, I’m having wonderful ‘me’ time. I’ve just got home from an amazing concert at the National Concert Hall of classical music. The first half was various arias and pieces for choirs and orchestra. The second half was Mozart’s requiem. The choirs are all directed by the same lady and have young people ranging in age from 8 to 30. I went with my friend and her two daughters who used to be in one of the choirs. I’m off to the cinema again tomorrow after the lunch with our home help ladies. Maybe my OH should go away more often!πŸ˜ƒ I am proud of our home in France because it has opened up a whole new world to us and my OH loves being near the sea because he grew up beside the sea and misses it where we live now. Great job on your fast and weight. I think we’re all getting into a steady pattern now that the silly season is over.
Jade, I hope your day went well. I’m glad to have supplied the daydream, free of charge to my friends, of course! πŸ˜‰
AA, I’m sure you will find a routine that works for you and you’re getting great advice from all the ladies here. Keep up the good work!

Dawg, glad to hear you got some rain at last but I hope the fire areas get enough to put everyone out of danger. Looks like you’re making a great start to your fd. Give Pepper a hug from me!

Morning folks CG you saw a 72….how fantastic!! You will slowly bounce around & little by little that 72 will stabilise and then you’ll drop a bit more. An impromptu lunch with a friend how lovely…and more of that fossicking that you love too. ENJOY πŸ™‚
We did a big walk yesterday & it knocked the stuffing right out of me. Maybe because it’s the first long one we’ve done for a while – even OH was worn out. I came home, sat in a chair & I was off for an hour and a half I think. Was a tad warmer than when we usually walk too but not much. Anyway saw some beautiful parts of the coastline that we will return to. Had my portable lunch – 2 HB eggs & some salad in a ziplock bag then there;s nothing left to carry.
Oh the photo I put up wasn’t mine of the shark ladies. Jade I did love your version of events though! Taken by the beach patrol helicopter a bit later on. We saw them again yesterday doing their patrol of the coast.
AA when I first started 5:2 I had 2 egg dry fried with a rasher of bacon. Then I didn’t eat all day till dinner. Then switched to a HB egg for both brekky & lunch & then my dinner. This worked well for a while. Now I’m not so hungry in the morning (quite a revelation for me) so I have a coffee with a splash of milk then hang out till about 4/4.30 to have my only HB egg & then a decent dinner as you have more cals left. So you vary your FD schedule to whatever suits you as you go along, but also your tolerance to FD’s becomes much higher – they don’t bother you, but that takes time. Aand….some days… they do bother you again but not very often! So go with what works but as a general rule I’d say most of us try to keep more cals for dinner as that’s when we’re all hungriest.
FIt your house in France sounds idyllic! And I love Mont St Michel – we had to do a detour on one of our trips specifically for me to visit Mont St Michel. Very touristy inside of course but a beautiful location/building.
Jade I wouldn’t DARE keep biscuits in the house apart from crackers as they don’t call my name out.
PH I too felt like going to bed at 8pm last night but I didn’t dare. Somehow I kept my eyes open till much later. Had to get out of my chair a few times though.
Noots congrats on your OH’s remission Woohoo!! & also on your new cooktop. Such fun to play with & very easy to clean too – love that aspect!

Well have my next osteoporosis scan today so will be interesting to see the results. I had to go off my meds 12 months ago so eager to see if I’ve held my own. FD is all ready to go with a HB egg & sausage casserole in the freezer for another 5 meals so easy peasy. MY exercise yesterday should help a bit. Waiting to see what I weigh in at tomorrow. Hope those who are fasting have a successful day. I’ve found that the best answer to hunger is……..have a drink! Often you’re not actually hungry I’ve discovered. We confuse the signals a lot. suejen XXXX

CG, the 72s! Woohoo! You’re on the move! Have a wonderful day……love that word ‘fossicking’…..it’s really expressive.
SJ, no wonder you slept so much afternoon all that exertion in the heat, but I’m sure it has also done you alot of good. You are so well prepared for your fd, you are bound to succeed. I did a really good semi-fast today and I will manage a proper fast tomorrow even though I’m going out for lunch by just having soup. Hopefully that will see a small loss for me on Friday.

Doggy I so often am typing with a dog’s snout over one arm and a cat sitting halfway on the keyboard! Yes Siri is an idiot but sometimes she can type better than I can.
Fit thank you for the free daydream πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I like the romantic French ones.
CG woo hoo, big congrats on seeing a new number! Slow and sure, that sounds like the right way. Hope your lunch was fun.

SJ and all who sing the praises of the HB egg – thank you. Annie, they’re a lifesaver on FDs so you could take your meds and still have plenty of cals left. I went wrong the other day with a 300-cal lunch. Today I had an egg around crazy-hour (3-4) and wasn’t even that hungry for dinner 3 hrs later. Ha, well let’s don’t go crazy, I still HAD dinner. But sadly, no eggplants yet! OH is being a little picky this week.

I was a sun worshipper today, took a long walk with a colleague over the lunch hour. He is very tall so I had to almost sprint to keep up. I think MFP recorded over 10,000 steps just on the walk. Felt great to get some exercise outdoors. Happy day all – xx
ps: SJ, good luck with the osteo scan!!

Well scan done & dusted though it was getting there that was the problem. Roadworks going on & they keep changing which roads are closed to where I had to get to. So gave up & walked…all good in the end as everyone is running late the guy said!

But FD just got dumped as I got a better offer hehe! OH has to go up the coast to his picture framer again & he said what about I drop you at the beach so you can have a swim (& not get bored talking frames!) & then we’ll visit a few sites along the coast & then have chinese for dinner – now that’s a BIG DEAL cos we don’t have one in town. So…..I said YES (weeelll I had to be pushed soo hard) & will do FD tomorrow. Just a coffee for breakfast will help today anyway. suejen XXXX

PS Also called in to the local rec centre to pick up info re their Living longer Living stronger classes. I need to get sorted after I dropped out of my pilates class. Have my osteopath organised, now need to get the fitness side of life sorted. Classes only cost $7.50 so can do that & still afford a Pilates class with someone else for $14. Have found a good centre that has loads of classes & they suggested that I do a class with each of the 3 ladies to find one I like so will do. 2 classes will be cheaper than the one I did last year though I was able to claim a little on HBF. But it’s a rip-off paying double $30 for a so-called supervised class when it’s basically unsupervised! OK now I’m done πŸ™‚

For those of you who are having insomnia problems. I have a couple of Apps on my iPad. One is called Sleep Well and the other is End Anxiety. Just type Sleep Well app. Mine is the one with the ZZZZs on it. I find them both very therapeutic. Forget it it if you are going to be sceptical before you start. I often drift off to a Nanna Nap while listening to either one of them.
I lasted out till 1230 pm today wiht only black coffee till then. I didn’t find it difficult to do.
We have more heavy rain forecast for today and tomorrow. We’ve already found that some water seeped into the downstream loo. Luckily it has Lino so hubby was able to roll it back and try and dry if out. That part of the house is below the soil level and I guess it’s just poor building practise with no damp proofing. Once this weather system is over we are going to have to dig out the flower bed and have damp proofing put in. Bloody nuisance as this isn’t the first time it’s happened.

    the

    That would be downstairs loo.

Thanks for the insomnia info Dawg.
Why are so many of us having this problem? I went to bed at 9pm found my self wide eyed and bushy tailed at 1230am until 4am. No matter how I tried to relax sleep just would not happen. I had to be up at 6am to go Nursing.I may have only dozed, now home and just want to crawl into bed BUT if I do! It will be another broken nights sleep.
CONGRATULATIONS CG On being 72kgπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘±well done!
Sj- that shark was to close for comfort. Scary pic
FIT- Just so enjoy “me” if OH is away….. I turn the music up put candles on and go to bed to watvh chick flicks. You are so lucky to have your home in France. The one city I would love to spend time inπŸ—ΌπŸ°.
Today was not a FD for me ….tomorrow is I am doing a 4:3 this week.Wishing you all success for the weigh in.
Going to take the”white one” for a walk and fight off wanting the bede…..GO GAL XXXXXX
