Day 14, Australia FD
Third day of b2b2b! I did complete it and I was doing super well and then I think went a little over, but it wouldn’t be by much, still under 600 cals I’m sure, could even be under still, but I didn’t prepare the food I ate so can’t be sure. Hopefully all good for my weigh in tomorrow morning!
BrightonBelle great job on your first b2b2b! I’m proud of you!
Day 14….Florida…. NFD
Rocy……. My family is not big believers in modern medicine, for several reason, I won’t get into it on here but I want to help if I could. Routine blood test such as the ones you did, sometimes can be affected by what you did up to two days before the test. Example, if you were to eat a high fat the day before will show badly on the test, especially if you normally do not eat this way. Many diagnoses can be resolved by changing our diets, which could also affect any tests, you may have. Example starting a no carb diet a week prior could show on blood work you have the beginning stages of diabetes. I truly understand your concern, please do some research as to what can affect these tests, what you can do naturally to decrease the issues and such, before you condemn yourself on one test.
Brighton….. Congrats, my love for you are stronger today then yesterday. As each day passes your strength and determination will never be bottled!
I feel better today, even with the set back I received yesterday. I am moving forward!
Have a great day!
Hello everyone UK Day 14 FD (11.9)
Well I received a present all the way from NZ – it included some HawkesBay dark chocolate with plum and almonds (delicious). Now I am not a fan of dark chocolate but this could change my mind! I decided to indulge and broke my fast last night so while I didn’t do as well as the week previous I still fasted from Sunday evening to Tuesday evening. Again because my class is off now for the holidays I was out of my usual routine. Creature of habit! So am doing another fast from last night and will hopefully continue until tomorrow evening. Well done on all those you achieved their goal of b2b2b fasts.
@at a good quote to keep in mind.
@Rocy – my husband was taken in by the adverts for Benecol as he believed this would help his high cholesterol, needless to say his cholesterol was still high. Benecol while may contain helpful ingredients is high in sugar. I encouraged him to take porridge in the morning and fast one day a week. His latest bloods showed an improvement. He has also been snacking on nuts.
Day 14 USA (Illinois)
NFD today but going to do my best to eat very smartly. I often can pass on sweets but certainly do crave salty items or snacks. I don’t generally worry about the sodium as I have very low blood pressure (110/70 or lower). But it does seem to make me retain water weight easily enough.
Thanks all for the kind comments about my upcoming physical. I feel good about my health. I used to believe 68 was really old, but now it seems like middle age. π
Isn’t so much of our WOL now improving our health?! Yeah for us! Talk of blood chemistry, we are getting healthier this way.
Must run – I give piano lessons to home school children on my Wednesdays. I love being retired!
Onward and downward.
Day 14– Colorado, USA– NFD
Well, DH chose going out for dinner last night. I had a draft IPA beer (local craft micro-brews are a specialty of CO, couldn’t pass one up.) For dinner I just ordered an appetizer/ starter dish to keep it small. Pretty sure I went over 500 cals…. but stayed far below TDEE.
So, I made it from dinner Sunday night until dinner Tuesday night. That’s a full 48 hour Fast!
YAY me! I will chalk that up as a successful return to intermittent fasting.
2nd post:
Coda– thank you for taking the time to post the Gratitude & Strategy articles. Both well worth reading!
“I am grateful for… the support & inspiration offered by this community.”
SongBird– I love snow shoveling! If I’m outdoors & actively working up a sweat = I am happy! It’s a great workout! Sometimes, I’ll just keep going & lend a hand to the neighbors drives & sidewalks too. Invigorating!
Good luck at your physical. Congrats on taking charge of your health & moving that scale down. Your doctor ought to be quite pleased.
Pissupoosa– Your birthday celebration sounded perfect!
Such gifts! You make me so glad I cannot stand chocolate. I just hand them off to DH or co-workers. Thank goodness no temptation there. (And I’m taking your advice & steering clear of Christmas baking sites. Too tempting. Studying slow-cooker dinner recipes instead.)
Rocy– way to dodge that surgery bullet by losing 2.5 stones. Well done!! So sorry to hear of your RA though, I hope it stays in remission for you.
AT– I’m jealous of all your yoga classes. They sound wonderful. When my feet are finally healed, you’ve got me thinking I should look into finding some affordable ones to attend.
Bigbooty– love when you drop in. As always, great advice!
Absolutely agree on cut the grains & ditch the sugar. Solid info to support this https://www.dietdoctor.com Helpful site!
LEW– that’s terrific progress having clothes slip on easily. Enjoy those summer dresses on holiday!
Day 14. Sussex U.K.
NFD.
Mostly sticking with 16:8 by missing breakfast.
Sorry was not able to check in yesterday, these days are so hectic sometimes. However I surprised myself yesterday when out for a traditional festive meal. Only able to eat half the main course so brought the rest home to have for lunch today. This has never happened before! I did have a small pudding but even so, previously I would have carried on stuffing myself, thinking I had to eat everything on my plate. Yesterday I could feel that I knew when I had had enough. What a shock. Lol.
Virtual hugs to everyone out there today. Aren’t we lucky to have found this group?
2nd post
NFD I had ff yog and seeds for breakfast and took a friend out for her 70th birthday baked potato and salad with a glass of red wine! Thatll be me for the day now and I think I’ll fast from now until friday morning.
Bigbooty I’ll try water only! Can you point me to more information on which fats to eat?
Bert 1802 my family also try not to go down modern medicine route, Im a great believe in taking responsibilty for my health, making necessary changes and not relying on a pill, unless absolutely necessary!
Coda and At and Happymargo thanks for your input. I just love this thread such amazing support!
songbirdme I’m also 68 I don’t feel old, keep moving and take of ourselves!
Im now off for a dental check then visit MIL. Stay strong and safe x
Day 14 WA USA NFD
Completed 2nd FD but today is a NFD as there are celebrations at both of my schools plus dinner with a neighbor. Will try to be mindful but enjoy!
Congratulations Manura on your 1st 3 day B2B. I did my first a couple of weeks ago because of this forum. It’s a wonderful supportive place.
I’m not quite in the 68 yr club, but I am 66. I’m still teaching full-time. Making decisions 1 year at a time. I’m excited that as of this morning, I’ve lost 24 lbs since my b-day on Sept. 26. – even losing 3 lbs so far in December. My 67th b-day should be quite different if I keep on this journey.
SongBirdMe – I love how you’re spending your retirement. Teaching piano to homeschoolers is great! I used to teach piano. I still have to figure what I want to do when I “grow up”.
Day 14, London, NFD.
Had to fast until now (for a hospital procedure) but have our work’s Christmas do tonight, so it won’t be a proper fast day.
Finally finished “Thin Inside Out” by J Spinardi which someone here recommended. Not a bad book on how to get out of the habit of “dieting”, even though I (strongly) disagree with some of the suggestions, but it provided “food for thought” anyway.
Coda- thank you for posting the inspirational articles, good to bear those strategies in mind.
Kudos to everyone who has either attempted or completed b2b fasting this week. One day, that will be me, but that day has not yet arrived ;-). 36h fast is plenty, for me right now (I don’t always get that right either, yet).
Day 14, NYC, FD.
I have been AWOL for a few days, recovering from a house full of friends from around the country. On the downside, I overate and over imbibed. Weight is up a bit but going down. On the upside, a couple of these friends commented on my weight loss, and one of these friends is now reading up on intermittent fasting. On the VERY significant upside, my husband won two front row seats to Hamilton last Thursday so we celebrated!!!
Son #2 should be home from college on Friday, and I turn 61 on Monday.
Hi Rocy,
Dr Axe isn’t too bad for general advice.
https://draxe.com/healthy-fats/
With regards to fats, I think your already eating a lot of them. Avocadoes, nuts in particular walnuts. I also eat almonds and brazil nuts (mostly to help my bike riding). I eat a lot of tuna. Salmon is also good but I don’t personally like the flavour. A splash of olive oil in my salads. Real butter but I personally don’t have a lot of it. I sometimes have coconut oil if Im making a curry.
Not sure if Im confusing you with someone else? Did you have high blood pressure? Try swapping over to “lite salt”. It has a lot more potassium based salts rather than sodium based salts. Should be able to find it in supermarkets. We get more than enough sodium, its the potassium we need to boost.
Day 15, Australia NFD
Great results this morning on the scale after the b2b2b! Finally at and under my goal! Yay! 62.4kgs this morning. Really happy as this was probably my last chance for a b2b2b or a b2b as we are traveling on Saturday and visiting family which makes it hard food wise.
Now onto maintenance, though not sure what that will be made up of yet, will have to see where I am at with regular weighing. Hoping for 6:1, but the fact that it has taken me nine months to lose 10.5 kgs with mostly 4:3 makes me sceptical that it will work for me. I have also built muscle in that time so hopefully that is a big party of the reason it has been on the slow side, but I am so happy!
Laura55555 b2b fasting is doing two normal 5:2 days of 1/4 tdee or less in a row, back to back, instead of spread out. B2b2b is three days in a row. Some people do their 1/4 tdee and some liquid only fast one or more of the days. I find one of the benefits to b2b fasting is that by the second day you find you are not actually hungry anymore, I’m sure someone else will know the technical terms to what is happening, but it’s actually easier to just keep going. I also find it is great to get them out of the way, especially at the beginning of the week when it doesn’t tend to be as social. This week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were the only days I could fit fasting in, so to fit in a third fast I needed to b2b2b! The other thing that I find makes it easier is not expecting too much from yourself. I have water fasted before but I don’t put that extra pressure on myself, but often only eat around 200 -300 cals each day. Also not feeling like I have to do the whole thing, in that there is always a benefit to fd’s being able to say to yourself if you’re struggling I can eat that tomorrow, so I still think that but always feel like keeping it up the next morning as that feeling has gone. I think I know that my mind just needs to not feel like it is long term deprived, which is one of the reasons 5:2 is so doable really.
Those are my thoughts anyway.
Give it a go sometime if you want to, it might not be for everyone but it has been such a strength to have my fellow b2b fasting pocketeers!
Have a great day everyone.π
Day 13 | NFD | Bucks UK
– forgot to check in yesterday, got a bit carried away, my daughter sang O Holy Night solo in her school Christmas concert, she was great! (I’m biased π) I was an emotional wreck. By the time I WhatsApp the vid to my mum, then my Nana and other relatives in the Caribbean, posted on instagram and facebook it was late and fell asleep.
Day 14 | NFD | Bucks UK
Had a office Christmas lunch which going to overflow to tomorrow
Want to fit a FD on Friday hopefully, fingers crossed.
Day 14, Gozo Malta, NFD
I think I’m within my TDEE today if the sweet ball of chocolate cookie my daughter made and which I samples is not very high in calories. This morning I weighted 63.9 kilos. I’d like to be lower but still hope to maintain by doing a one fast day per week.
Good evening/ night everyone.
Hi Rocy,
Diet Doctor isn’t too bad as well. Dr Andreas. Perhaps a little too LCHF for most including me. Im OK with the no grains but I don’t go out of my way to smother my food in butter when cooking. And I do eat some fruit as long as its whole fruits. Mostly the berry type fruits, tart apples, kiwi fruit.
Lou Belles: Congratulations on getting to your goal! Well done.
You will probably find you can maintain on 5:2….6:1 is a bit of a stretch when you’ve been doing 4:3. It’s how it is for me anyway….but I’ve managed (more or less) to keep at my goal weight since the beginning of September. It’s a matter of experimenting really. And staying vigilant!
Day 14/Carolina (USA)/NFD
These NFD sure are easy, LOL. My FDs seem to be fairly easy as well. Going to shift my fast day this week to Friday, I think. Gym has been good to me. Scale isn’t as kind as I’d like, but I won’t complain. Haven’t seen my weight from last week yet, but I know good things are happening. Hoping for a good weigh in on Sunday (moving it this week because I’m moving my 2nd FD).
Hope everyone has a great day!
@goldensun yes I’ll be doing a fast come Sunday evening, you are very welcome to join me.
Rocy…..
I so agree with living with the pill thing!
I work in pharmaceuticals for many years, up until they’ve moved my company out of state and I didn’t want to move.During my time with them, I came to know and understand what goes into making this pills as well as the financial gain in having doctors prescribe them to their patients. It’s a money making game that could potentially harm someone based on the chemicals used to make them.
As far as modern medicine, I grew up in a home that did not believe in it, so it was easy for me to follow. My sister raised me and took this route with her life after two doctors misdiagnosed a close friend of my sisters. She was called home because of the misdiagnosis.
I don’t condemn anyone who chooses this route but I believe their are other ways to treat the misgiving our bodies are having…. So to speak.
All in all no matter what way you decide to follow do your research. The more knowledgeable we are, the more successful we become.
I get asked this all the time, so I’m sure your all wondering.
My children have been vaccinated but for only the major illnesses. Yes, I have taught my kids alternate ways but ultimately they’ve made the decision on whether or not they’ll believe in modern medicine.
They were both born in a hospital, my youngest was a premie.
I have never and will never compromise the health and well being of my children. They have seen doctors on regular basis but my doctor understands my beliefs and works with my kids to come to a happy compromise based on what is best for their health.
Day 14 – London, UK – NFD
Apologies for not posting yesterday, crazy kind of running around day and today not a lot better!!
Completed the b2b fast and really happy with a 1.5lb drop in weight, making total loss since 1st Nov 9.5lbs…4lbs off goal!! Not bad after a 4 day break in Rome, loving how this WOL works for me!!
Today has been pretty crazy busy too so the NFD has actually ended up closer to a FD in terms of calories consumed and the upside is not feeling painfully hungry. Must complete a full NFD tomorrow though.
Good night all.
Day 15 FD sunny West Australia
Well the sun is out, the soggy paddocks and crops are drying off and we might be able to start harvesting again later this afternoon so we’ll see…
Did 16:8 yesterday which went really well, even possibly a proper 36 hr FD but didn’t know exact calories so taking it as a 16:8 – too tired to crunch numbers when I got home.
Went to drinks with work colleagues and accidentally left my wallet home. It wasn’t the worst outcome as I ended up not drinking anything as I wouldn’t have been able to buy my round and I didn’t want to borrow money so zero calories which was a great start to the evening. Besides which I got to talk to lots of work mates and wasn’t stuck by the barπ
Then a dinner with friends and chose the children’s size turkey and veggies. Had one slice of turkey with gravy, medium serve of veggies and left about 1/3 on the plate.
Like Patti67 I would once have eaten everything on my plate , but not any more. It is SUCH a good feeling to listen to your body and know when you have had enough.
I am amazed at the low weight of some people on this thread with weight in the low 60’s. Just wondering how tall you guys are? That would seem to be quite a desirable weight from my point of view!!
Unlike some here I absolutely adore carbs and absolutely refuse to give them up. Breakfast was a slice of wholemeal toast with butter and vegemite. I admit since doing 5:2 I have cut out a lot of carbs but not altogether and never plan to do so.
I am a bit concerned that carbs are getting such a bad wrap. We’ve had the fats, eggs, spuds, meat, dairy, too much protein etc etc all being vilified. I think research is missing something with carbs. As children we ate plenty of white starchy carbs – bread, rice, pasta, potatoes by the score. We were all lean and school photos show us all as lean/ sometimes skinny kids. We also ate some white sugar.
Personally I think the obesity epidemic might have more to do with chemicals, additives in food and the amount of fast food and ‘non food’ we consume. I looked at a meat pie in the supermarket the other day and the list of ingredients was about 3 cms long !!! and it contained about 25 ingredients !!! most of which were additives , preservatives etc, and only 38% meat.π
AnneMarilyn – I am amazed how busy I am in retirement. I used to teach public school music (all levels depending on where they needed me, K-14). Teaching piano is a nice involvement in children’s lives, but I also am president and director of our local Choral Society and very involved getting a children’s museum in our town.
I am sure you will find areas of involvement doing what you want to do! And congrats on the 24 pounds! That’s terrific! I started 5:2 in mid-March and am happy to have kept off 30. I’m all about maintenance now.
Happy Margo – snow is one of the reasons I would never live in the south. You in CO must feel the same way. I have my down coat and comforters, so I’m comfy!
Day 14 UK NFD
Still coughing and started to use this to be good as eating makes me cough, however now I’m eating anything to see if it makes me cough. ???? Most things still do, but so many nice treats around I can’t seem to resist trying them. Keep picking especially in the office.
Need to refocus and concentrate on Fasts and lengthening time not eating. Have a few nights out coming up so need to prepare. Determined not to let my weight loss for November creep back on.
Drinking lemon and water almost constantly. Fluid intake up.
TMI COMING UP, Tip – they say that the colour of your wee (urine)when you go to the loo (toilet)should be straw or lighter otherwise you are dehydrated. If dark drink more. Mine is near enough clear – think I’m finally drinking enough – which has always been an issue for me. πππthought I would share!
Good luck all Fastonians and well done pocketeers.
2nd post
Just need to make a comment on Carbs as someone mentioned they are getting a bad vibe. Carbs are the only thing that fuels your brain, so a nutritionist told me. Protein doesn’t. So you do need some carbs in your diet from somewhere at some point in your day.
Doesn’t have to be a huge amount but a little goes a long way and you can pick the healthy ones rather than the blood sugar spike ones. I.e. Apple rather than white rice etc.
Days 13 and 14 Minnesota, USA FD yesterday and NFD today
So sorry that I missed checking in yesterday. I fell asleep in my chair and woke up well after midnight to go to bed. FD yesterday went alright, a little over 500. Must do better. Today I’m eating low carb and staying under TDEE. FD tomorrow.
Best of luck to everyone.
Hi lilymartin,
Eating lots of carbs as a growing child shouldn’t be confused with eating lots of carbs as an adult. As a child it just means we are supplying enough energy for our bodies to grow (faster). After we have catered for our TDEE all excess is used for growth. The trouble with being an adult is that we no longer need to grow vertically. Hormones kick in to limit that growth. So all excess must be utilised somehow, and that is horizontal growth. i.e. we get fat. The evidence for sugar and refined carbs as being the major culprit is pretty strong. You need the equivalent of one tea spoon (4 grams) of glucose circulating in your blood at any one time. All excess must be processed by the liver and stored as glycogen or fat. That is why people are continually hungry when they eat a diet high in simple carbs. The body is continually storing the carbs as fat.
Im sure chemical additives don’t help. The more you can eat “natural” the better off you will be. It also doesn’t help that food manufacturers all employ the “bliss point” when making their products. The intersection of fat/sugar/salt to maximise the taste. Get the bliss point right and you can make cardboard taste awesome. Ive seen bottles of vinegar with 50% sugar content. CRAZY!!!!
Day 15 | Pune India | NFD
Mid point of the month. Weighed myself today. I lost 3 pounds this month so far! That is great for me! I am a slow loser, so this is big for me. Thanks a lot everyone, your support and this forum has made me accountable and set on right path!
@annemarilyn – Congratulations on your weightloss! Great numbers – 24 and 3! You are on the roll!
@lou Belles – Congratulations on reaching the goal! Doing “Fireworks and Happy dance routine” for you! How does it feel to be at goal?
Day 16 UK FD
It is the second fast of the week for me. Liquid only. I think I would find it too difficult to eat anything on a FD now. I started off on the usual 500 cals but encouraged by one or two other posters quickly decided to go to liquid only and probably check in at the end of the day at around 50 cals. I actually find it easier not to eat anything and am no hungrier than on 500 cals. Good luck today everyone.
HI bigbooty I would agree with you about simple carbs and hormones except that children in the 60s and 70s were, mostly, not overweight or fat. Children in the noughties often are. I work with children a lot and some of them are very overweight and unfortunately have very little muscle tone. Also if you look at movies of the 70s ( we were the other day) it is noticeable that children/teenagers/ adults were not fat as we are today. I have no problem using the word ‘ fat’. I am fat not merely overweight. Not ideal but there it is.
Day 16 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Over indulged last night with a homemade seafood paella (at OH request – he obviously missed my cooking!) and wine but was very nice
Doing a fast during the day today until dinner this evening – going to see “A United Kingdom” followed by an Indian with friends
As I cannot fit in another FD this week I’m planning on doing a couple of 16:8 days or fasting during the day and having an evening meal only if going out!
Going for an aerobic class soon
Take care all – look after yourselves today
Good morning, lovely people. Day 15, London, NFD.
Half way through, I weighed myself- have not gained weight, which is my modest goal for this month of over-indulgence.
Chipping in the chat about carbs and why we gain weight now and not when we were kids. When I was growing up (in a Southern European country), there were hardly any snacks around and generally food was not as abundant. Mums/grannies cooked meals from scratch, using fresh market produce. We roamed about after school. Exercise was part of the daily routine- we walked everywhere.
People live differently now, and we are great at deluding ourselves. Even when I travel to places that pride themselves on being health-conscious (say, California), I cannot help but notice that portions are huge and there is a lot of junk that masquerades as healthy food. We’ve just stopped listening to our bodies.
One of the reasons I like the fasting regime is that it helps one regain appreciation of the taste/smell/right amount of food. Not right away, but that’s what I think will be my gain in the long run. This month, though, as I mentioned- I am just hanging there, by the skin of my teeth π
