  • Day 1 – USA – Missouri Ozarks – Non Fasting

Today is my normal weekly weigh in day – 143.

No breakfast, lunch at Wendy’s with friends, my usual chili and Jr. Frostee.

Did a lot of walking (shopping) but still have to do some “formal” exercise tonight.

Another shopping day tomorrow – different town about an hour away, very relaxing ride filled with beautiful scenery.

Hope everybody has a wonderful start to the month.

Hi Hannah we are continuing posting on November’s thread. How are things with your brother?

Day 1. NJ USA NFD. hi on a train after a day in NYC. Playing eating and drinking. This has to stop but …
So many events planned. Not giving up – just need a fast dsy

    Day 1… Florida…. NFD

    Just a quick check in…..
Didn’t break my daily fast until 1 pm. Had a difficult time drinking my water. Hopefully tomorrow, I can get it all in. I seem to drink more of it when on FD then any other time…
I know I’m over my TDEE, but for dinner we had these sweet and spicy pickles, oh boy, I just couldn’t stop. I’m glad tomorrow is another FD.

    Have a great night everyone!

Day 2. FD Sunny country West Australia
FD went OK yesterday as a 16:8. I quite enjoy not feeling hungry on my FD. Sleep deprivation doesn’t seem to have affected weight but it WAS only one night…
Had 100 gms lamb with big bowl of veggies for dinner but it IS amazing how quickly those calories add up. Interestingly I got the munchies after dinner and Felt hungry even though I Wasn’t actually hungry, if that makes sense. Had to exercise a lot of discipline not to eat something.🀐
Linda 5555, portion size/control to my mind is really key to the whole weight loss/ healthy eating effort. It wasn’t until I started on this forum and actually worked out with a calorie counter exactly how much I was consuming that I found out one of my problems. I told myself that because I was eating lots of vegetables, fruit, little amounts lean meat protein etc and very little ‘junk’ food that I was doing OK. Well, it was such an eye-opener when I started to weigh, measure, number crunch. I was under-estimating what I was eating as my TDEE by about half!! Eat twice as much as your body requires for enough days and it is clear as to why the weight goes on.
Even with 5:2 I have had to be really vigilant and found that I have to be VERY careful on NFDs as I think we trick ourselves into thinking we ‘ deserve’ a food treat after a fast. Which begs the question – why fast if I am just going to replace all the lost calories with my very next meal??
So for me December is another month of number crunching but everyone does things differently so what works for one is not ideal for someone else. Nevertheless we are all in this together.
To those who feel they aren’t getting anywhere I do suggest you keep going. A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step and the fact that you are even on this forum shows that you have taken that first step. The posts and the support found here have been absolutely vital to helping me in this WOL.
And big props to bttf for keeping up with the group and who is doing what – really appreciated πŸ€—

    Day1 UK NFD

Sorry a little late, Started Dec celebrating – NFD today and started as I don’t want to go on but tnroughly enjoyed, biscuits and crackers etc. Not too many but definitely more than I should. Result – very tired and thirsty.

Would like to say will redeem myself with a FD tomorrow but won’t as its number 1 of Christmas work do, and number 2 work do is the day after. But it’s not all about food! So by Sunday I dare say I it wil be a FD.

Determined not to put on what I lost in November. Extra vigilant.

So glad we are carrying on with this group x

    2nd post.

    Love the lessons learned Wellrounded!

And great to see everyone results! No matter what they say the fact we are all still checking in means we are in control of it. Don’t give up anyone. Perserverence will win eventually!

    Day 1 E. Canada NFD

Onward everyone. I have both succeeded and struggled, so I can identify with just about every story.

I already gave my results yesterday. Today though I weighed self once in morning at 122.5, and again in evening at 125.5. A mystery. We shall see what happens over a week.

I think I overate today. Let us check.
    Bran flakes 180, 1/2 banana 50, 2/3 a chicken wrap 260, timbit 80, st. 570
almonds 100, pork chop strips 250, potato 80, salad 70, blackberries and whipped cream 80, 1150, other 100, total 1250. Went for a swim today. If count is accurate, then I didn’t overeat TDEE.

Sarah 57 -I am now 5’6″ having shrunk a couple inches probably over the last 20 years. I don’t have osteoporosis, but I think it is just being 68 years old that has made me shrink. My mother did as well also probably 2″ down when she died at 87.

My 160 pounds brings me right to the top of acceptable BMI. I might still want to lose as much as 10 more pounds, but my goal was to maintain 160 through the end of the year. Having come down from 189 in March, I am happy with the steady loss and maintenance. But even if I don’t lose any more, I feel good about myself.

    Day 1-Minnesota-USA-NFD
Hello, Back2theFuture and everyone! Just read all of the last 3 days of posts, and congratulations to everyone who is reducing weight, maintaining a weight loss, or just hanging in there with 5:2, even with a small weight gain over the month. The important thing is to keep doing it.
I know only one person, a man, of course, who ever kept his weight within 5 pounds up or down. (Just for credibility, I’m a retired Bachelor of Science Nurse). People thought he was strange. He was quite obsessed with his weight. Lots of eye rolls when he was around. I think weight up and down is the norm for humans. We just need to manage it and not feel bad about it! Anyone reducing, maintaining, or just sticking to this WOL, can be considered a success! It’s a journey, after all.
May I join the December challenge? I do need to be part of this group. There is no better motivation than being part of this online group!
I’ve gained 4 pounds since taking leave at the end of October, and I would like to reduce my weight by at least 2 pounds or 1 KG over this month. I’m keeping my goal low because of the Holidays and all of the parties we will be expected to go to.
I took a month off from the forum, off from the diet, and even took off my fitbit (it took 3 weeks until I no longer had an impression/divet on my left forearm). I needed that, after 5 months of logging in and also striving for weight loss, and reaching my goal weight in October.
I needed the break. I started April 12, and then started Coda’s 42 day challenge in May. Then I participated in every challenge and posted daily (except 3 days, I think) until November 1.
At some later time, I will explain why I had to take a break, for health reasons. But I still believe this is a very healthy and doable way of eating.
Height: 5ft 6and 3/4 in; weight: 147 lbs, BMI: 23.0 Too high for my body build.
    Good luck to all.

    moth54:
“A pint’s a pound the world around”, my mother taught me. From her English grandmother.
In other words, 16 ounces of liquid equal a pound. A glass of water, milk, whatever, at 8 oz, is at least a half pound or more. You really shouldn’t weigh yourself throughout the day. It does no good. You’re just weighing the food and drink you’ve had, the water retention from salt you’ve eaten, and the water retention from any exercise you’ve done, (which causes inflammation from using/tearing muscles, which is how they get bigger and also takes on water for awhile).

    Day 2 UK NFD

Songbird, thank you and well done on achieving that! 160 sounds like a really credible goal for me. X

Day 2 | Derbyshire UK | NFD weigh in 2lbs shed

Well I did my 3 days b2b fasting. I can honestly say that at no point was I ‘hungry’.

I felt invigorated, positive and happy on day 1.

Day 2 found me craving a glass of wine when I got home from a stressful day at work, it was really hard but I just kept thinking of you gorgeous people on this forum and once I’d not given in by 9:00pm I knew I could go through successfully to bedtime.

Day 3 I felt queezy, lethargic, bone weary and just wanted to curl up on the sofa. At 12:30 I ate 2 heroes chocolates (102 calories) but did not go over 400 calories all day. So no hunger but strange cravings instead.

I’m pleased that I’ve done it because the experience has taught me that days can be tough but not impossible. Maybe I’ll have the strength to combat over indulgence over Christmas with an extra fast day, or I might be able to think back and work my way through foolish indulgences!

Anyhow I’d love to know anyone else’s experiences of struggle and the strategies they used to overcome them.

Welcome Northerndawn, your experience is what I love about this WOL, you can just re start and get in the groove again, no recriminations just a renewed steel to do what’s right for you.

Songbird, so good to hear of your success, you’re rightly proud of what you have achieved. Motivation for us all. Congratulations!

Lilymartin, I agree with what you say about counting the calories accurately. I don’t so much now but I’ve learnt that what I thought were shockingly tiny portions to keep within my TDEE are in fact very filling and are sufficient. I don’t feel hungry at the end of a meal and now, when eating out, I often leave part of the “normal” portion because it’s just too much. (Would never have done that before!) I think it’s vital to get a clear picture of what your TDEE looks like before trying to eat without measuring calories.

Whittled on a bit now-sorry😳 Good luck everyone. Happy Friday xx

    Day 2 – Staffordshire UK – NFD

Yesterday was the first time I’d run on a fast day. I was a little nervous how I would cope energy level wise. I took it slow and steady and thoroughly enjoyed it. No problem at all.

UK day 2- haven’t decided what the day will be yet , had a good FD yesterday , OH is at a Xmas do tonight so in theory I could do another b2b, but 2 in a week might just be too much , but have a night out tomorrow so it would be a good idea, I’m off to Pilates soon so I’ll just see how the day develops, completely agree with all the posts,I stated logging everything on MFP in May and I still get surprised when I add everything up , must have been underestimating for decades ,and it certainly takes an effort to reduce portion sizes after all this time, really need to keep track of things over the festive period .

Day 2, NFD, New Zealand. Undoubtedly over my TDEE after several wines, a cocktail, patatas bravas, and assorted Japanese dishes but hey, it’s Friday! Have a good weekend, everyone.

    Day 2, London, FD

On weighing and measuring- I personally don’t do it often enough, but quite agree that the answer to the unexplained weight gain is usually there. Most of us underestimate what we eat (sometimes I even simply forget, it does not register in my mind, I don’t even know how). Calorie counting is so very boring (it kills me!), but it makes you aware of nutrient density, etc. My aim at the moment is to count (albeit roughly) on most days, but I am not there yet.

    London | Day2 | FD

Apologies for not posting on December Day 1!
    It was an NFD
    skipped breakfast
chicken, rice and salad for lunch
Smoked trout, avocado and salad for dinner
A slight (!) transgression with a piece of Christmas stollen after dinner – after all it’s December now πŸ™‚

    24-h fast today.

Hello everyone UK day 2 fd (11st.7 1/4)

I am going to do what Neo used to do and note my weight each day (if I weigh). Not for any other purpose but just to see the fluctuations and keep me motivated perhaps.

Also going to dust of the running gear and start couch to 5k again – The weather so far has been cold but dry but that is a cue for rain and heavy frost off course.

Pocket fasters I am planning another fast beginning Sunday evening certainly Monday and hopefully Tuesday but perhaps (if the stars are aligned) including Wednesday as well. If you are interested in joining me, post my name along with yours in your post so that way all names will be there easy to see. If everyone adds their name to the list but copies the others already there – hope you understand that lol.

    Day 2, Australia NFD

@coda I’m in for Monday, Tuesday b2b and possibly Wednesday too. Sounds great to have the company again. πŸ˜†

    Second post.

Sorry that I cannot join you, Coda- long fasts are not for me (not yet anyway): I know that I will only be setting myself up to fail if I attempted them at this stage. But respect to everyone doing those.

Today, I took broth to work and lo and behold- I had not closed the container properly and it has now spilled in my bag (blast and triple yuk).

Though my best “fast” story so far is when I went to yoga feeling quite fragile, slipped, banged my head (!) and oh, just gave up the ghost.

    Day 2……. Florida….. FD

Last FD of the week, I started last nights fast a little late because I decided to have something a little sweet. Since starting the Nov. challenge, I’ve drastically reduced my intake of sofa and sweet treats. I used to drink 6-8 cans a day now I’m down to 2. The sweet treats used to be 2-3 a night, now I eat if I’m lucky once a week.
I’ve also discovered that I don’t need those things to keep my energy levels up, I found I have some hidden away but all the food and junk was tucking it further and further into it hiding place forcing me to replace it with food high in sugar and products that turn into sugar.
Hopefully today at work, things play out as they have been taking a very late lunch which will give me a couple more hours of fasting time. Since Wed., I’ve only had an eating window of five hours. It’s really hard to consume any more than your recommended calories when your eating times are only a couple hours. Plus, Ive been sleeping wonderfully.
Well… I must be off, I ignored my alarm last night and didn’t water the garden, so I must do that before work…… My winter veggies are not going to keep us fed, if I don’t feed them!

US SC Day 2 NFD. Successful FD yesterday.

Being a data fanatic, I have been keeping a spreadsheet since I began fasting in April and then joined Coda’s first challenge in May. I weighed every day.. for no reason really as I know I’ll go up and down but always on my regular weigh day (Saturday) I recorded a loss for the week. I was also very committed to MFP and measured and recorded size monthly. It takes no time to record weight or food on MFP.. I rarely have a food now that I haven’t recorded before so it’s just there waiting to be selected.

Somewhere along the way I got lost. When I look back over my years of one diet or another it seems like once something happens out of the ordinary that may derail my efforts I find it very hard to get back on track. This time it was my surprise trip home for my sister’s birthday. I didn’t fast for 2 weeks and didn’t record a single weight or food. When I got home I struggled with getting back into my groove. I stopped weighing daily and stopped recording calories. I had days where I knew I went nuts eating and deliberately didn’t record it because I just didn’t want to know.

It may seem strange given the season in it, but for some reason I feel more motivated so far this month. I have lost over 40 lbs since April. I have gained around 3lbs since my lowest recorded weight. The thought of going backwards is terrifying. Looking at all this has given me the jolt I need to get my act together.

It has only been because of you guys that things aren’t worse. I still hung in every day reading posts, cheering and commiserating but still fasting. Had I not fasted I don’t want to know how bad it would have gotten.

Thanks to all who continue to drop into our cyber cafe with words of wisdom. I’d be lost without you all.

Day 2 (30+2) Sunshine Coast Qld Aus: NFD: may I add my thanks to those of others B2tf for the November and now December as mother henlooking after all of her chicks. Time consuming but very rewarding. succumbed in the “Battle of the Scones” literally as I cooked scones for book club and also made rum balls which were also clearly calling my name. Not the best start to the month. Walked on the beach with daughter and grandson this afternoon which was truly delightful. Walked 3.5 kms. Then had coffee frappΓ© which would have taken me well and truly over the top. C’est la vie.

    Day 2 Brisbane Australia, FD

Had a good fast day. Going to make a conscious effort to measure my food over my weekend NFDs – I struggle not to overeat.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Day 2, Gozo,Malta, NFD

I had a piece of mincemeat and cranberry Christmas cake I made last Sunday with y coffee this morning then had two more white coffees.

I keep on buying baking books. This morning I bought new from Amazon and I have two more coming by post Leo from Amazon. I would like to continue baking for my family though I have to be careful and limit myself what to eat from the sweet creations I bake. Anyway the scales are showing me below target weight. I keep weighing myself every morning as that keeps me aware of my weight.

Today I will have baked salmon with hoison sauce and konjac rice for lunch and baked or steamed fish with vegetables for supper.

Happy Friday everyone. It’s the weekend again and we do indulge more food wise.

DebbieQ πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ well done you! I was a bit like that after Christmas last year. I totally lost my way. However I was still on this forum and then put out my invitation in May and can honestly say I haven’t looked back apart to see how far I have come lol. Yes there have been bumps in the road but I have gained friends and lost lbs.

    Day 2 – Cumbria UK – NFD

I struggled yesterday evening for some reason but kept myself busy and distracted from food and managed to stay just below my TDEE – it did mean an early night to bed with a good book………personal victory for me!

Yet I woke up feeling great and not hungry at all this morning – very strange how our bodies and mind work sometimes.
Went for a lovely 4mile walk with friends followed by coffee (no cakes!) – trying to do a 16:8 day as OH and I are taking daughter out tonight for her birthday and we are out with friends tomorrow night again.

@coda and @lou Belles – I’ll join you for B2B FDs starting Sunday evening and can continue until Wednesday evening.

I’m driving down south on Wednesday and having dinner that night with a good friend whose house I’m staying at for 6 nights – and as there will lots of evenings out during that time there will be no FDs during those 6 days……………my aim is to try and do 16:8 days wherever possible and be mindful in my eating/drinking during that time but I’m not sure my will power will be that strong ……..

I will then aim to do B2B x 2/3 FDs starting Tuesday when I’m driving back home.

For us all following this WOL especially those who have questioned their own abilities recently on this thread – I found this quote that will hopefully resonate with us all……..

    Day 2– Colorado, USA– NFD?

I put a question mark by NFD because I’m not sure how today will unroll.
I am now 5 weeks post-surgery to my Right foot, & today I go in to have surgery completed on my Left foot. So of course, no eating or drinking prior (to avoid aspiration of stomach contents during intubation.)

Yesterday was a successful FD! Nothing to eat since my light lunch yesterday. Won’t be out of surgery until 2:30 or 3:00 today. Will need to take in some food later to buffer my gut for the medications. Not sure that meal will exceed 500 cals, so this may end up being a b2b FD.

I’ll need to be extra careful with food choices the next couple of months….Want to select the most nutritious foods to support optimal bone healing!! Prepped for surgery by loading my freezer with homemade Bone Broths & hearty, nutritious Soups. Easy to re-heat & loaded with vitamins & minerals.

Hoping to not gain weight while lazing about in bed allowing my feet to heal.
But I’ll have plenty of free time to keep up with all the posts & inspiration here!!

nice quote AT – another one added to the bottom of my calendar

Good luck with surgery HappyMargo x

Day 2 Surrey UK NFD I have just eaten 3 brownies which my granddaughter made with such pride. I could have said yes to just one, but didn’t. Oh well, done and dusted…no more! Going to try and join you all for the three days fast. Could you tell me in short version, (Promise I will read the 2nd book by Dr Fung!) what the main benefits are of a long fasting period please? Sorry to ask, but it helps to have a good basis for why one is doing it!

AT I like that quote too. Very Carpe diem.

Margo, really admire your stamina to keep the fast, during 2 surgeries and recoveries. No reason for me to gripe and whine about how hard it is when I think about your example. Thanks for the motivation!

    Day 2 WA USA FD?

I put a ? because I’m not sure it’s realistic. One thing I know if that I will liquids all day until the staff Christmas function in the evening. We’ll be at a Mexican restaurant plus be playing Bunco. I’m hoping I can keep the total to 500 cal for the day.

Yay for Diggly on completion of 3 day B2B fast!

Happy Margo – all the best in surgery. Sounds like you prepared well nourishment wise.

Question – I need translation help on a few initials being used. DH I believe is “darling husband”, but some use OH – wheat would that be. And MFP, not sure about that.

Coda, Loubelles, AT & Norrie B, I’m planning to join you all on the B2B beginning Sunday evening.

    2nd post,

B2tF, did I miss the post, or are you still figuring out November data? I don’t want to miss the info. Think it would be interesting.

Day 2 NJ USA FD. I can only hope. I didn’t eat a lot yesterday but cheese was involved! Getting back on program.

    Day 2 – Los Angeles – NFD
Yesterday was not a great day but not a disaster either. Looking forward to Sundays fast and concerned about the weekend.

    MB

Day 2: Gloucestershire, UK: Fast-day…feeling stronger today. This will be my first FD for EIGHT days! I must do another on Monday to catch up with myself. I’m being tough on myself, but there it is. If I do that I’ll allow myself a pat on the back.
Will brave the scales tomorrow….provided I can hang in there today.

    Day 2 USA (Utah, visiting)

    NFD for me.

AnneMarilyn – OH is “other half” but don’t know about MFP either! And I think DH could be other expletives than “darling” if necessary. πŸ™‚

DebbieQ – terrific for you on the 40 loss since April! Congratulations!

Northern Dawn – good to see my Minnesota friend back again! Here’s to good health for us all. We’ve been through several challenges together, haven’t we? I hadn’t realized about water weight issues with exercise, but I do remember our Curves coach always measured us before exercise, and I bet that is why.

Here’s to all you “pocket fasters” – go for it! Onward and downward!

    Second post of Day 2

FD going ok so far. I’m home this afternoon – having some more work done in the house. I thought it’d be tough being home around food, but so far so good. I’ve been drinking tea and generally keeping my self occupied.

Coda – I’ll try and join in for Tuesday as well, but never gone beyond 36h yet – so we’ll see. Planning to make a fresh batch of bone broth this weekend – I should have the ready by Sunday evening.

Looking forward to the Nov stats. Thanks for a great job done b2tf and carrying on to Dec.
    Have a good weekend all.

    Day 2. Sussex U.K.
    NFD.
Goldensun, Biddie, Ciren, Coda, thanks so much for the kind words.
Bert, you really made me laugh out loud. I can hear you calling me now. Lol.
I got out of the house today to rock choir and enjoyed it so much I have decided to go twice a week. I think the singing is good for physical and mental health. It meant no snacking between breakfast and lunch either. Although to be fair my snacks usually start after supper.
I made an almond and flaxseed meal cake yesterday, which looked like a brick but with butter on is quite filling.
Intending to fast next Monday and Tuesday. Not sure what form it will take yet.
    Good luck everyone.

    Day 1 USA NFD (18:6)
    Day 2, USA NFD
Hanging on by a tread but determined to get back on track. Encouraged by everyone’s posts.

Day 2: Pacific NW USA, liquid only FD

My stomach still gurgles a lot, more than usual, since my 66 hour fast when I eat or drink anything. I was more accustomed to the empty stomach growl while fasting than his post fasting phenom. Not uncomfortable, just noisy in the office and during meetings. Any pocket fasters have anything like that going on since the fast?

NorthernDawn – I am so happy to add you to our Dec Challenge roster, and as noted, we are staying right here on this same thread through Dec 31.

Happy – thinking of you right now and all day, sweet dreams under anesthesia and speedy recovery!

Maui – we all have hold of the other end of your thread so all you have to do is hold on too!

    ===========================
AnneMarilyn, you didn’t miss the Nov results yet. Yesterday I said I would wait a little longer for any last minute additions. Probably everyone who was going to post has by now so here are the stats.

5 people gained weight in Nov, between 4 lbs and .5 lbs, and one reported they stayed the same.

I say, do not dispair, those are meager numbers, we all know the scale can be that fickle just sitting there by itself and all of us better face the fact that we will have weight fluctuations up as well as down in our quest for a healthy WOL. Strength comes from being aware, having the knowledge about what we can do to change what we want to change and then taking the necessary action. I needed to say that as much for myself as anyone else because I can so easily become undone if everything does not fall perfectly into place in my plan! Life is not perfect but it can be wonderful when we appreciate that we are always learning!

Here are the reductions of those who reported for Nov:
Total group – 180.57 lbs (or 81.91 kgm, or 12.95 stone)

Thanks a lot @back2thefuture, for your encouragement. It feels good to be included in the group!

AnneMarilyn & Songbirdme… MPF is “My Fitness Pal”… its the tool I use to keep track of calories and exercise. I find it very helpful.

Patti67: Hello, good to see you here today….I’m also hoping to fast on Monday…maybe we can support each other.
Agreed, singing IS good for you; I enjoy it in church on Sundays!

    Day 2 | FD | Bucks UK

Today was such a grey day… the kind where you just want to go home and comfort eat. I was craving warm bread with butter as I walked around doing a food shop.
By the time i got home, put away the shopping, started washing and drying the laundry, had a cuppa i had forgotten all about bread!

Nice quote @at another to add to my phone notes 😊
