UK day 21 FD Aiming to be super good for the last 10 days ,everything aligning to enable this OH away on business for a few days so think can squeeze in an extra fast day ,have a busy. week lined up and that always helps, like many others have commented NFD can easily go way over when I guesstimate weights/calories so I’m going to be vigilant with the scales .
Day 21 London UK FD
Monday – My favourite day to fast to correct weekend naughtiness. I definately felt i was not overeating but having everything i wanted. Have also noticed cravings for choc and sweet things is reduced. Going to attempt to fast all day until dinner. Black coffee, water and stock cubes where needed.
Day 21 Dublin NFD
Day 20 Dublin FD
Day 19 Dublin NFD
Hello all, sorry for my tardy check-ins. Very hectic weekend. Congrats everyone for getting this far. Would love to join the December challenge too if I may?
I’m doing alternate day fasting but it’s turning into 4:3. Finding fasting on sat and sun next to impossible as so much social life revolves around food and wine. So I go to the gym both days and still stay within my daily calorie allowance. Finding this WOL helps a lot to not overeat on nfds now.
Day 21, FD, New Zealand. It was a really tough day for me today. Once or twice I thought I couldn’t last the day without eating – even though I completely know I can do a fast day with just 500 cals. In the end I did manage to last from 6pm Sunday night to 7.30pm Monday before eating probably a bit more than 500 cals. My goal for this week is to get down to 65.8kg so I keep envisioning that goal when I waver. Tomorrow is my 2nd FD of the week, so i’ll be back on track. Good luck for this final stretch, everyone.
Day!21 Cornwall UK FD
Went over TDEE yesterday, always happens if I have breakfast I eat the rest of the day! Still today is a fast day so just a meal tonight. I didn’t weigh this mkrning but will do on Thursday morning after Wednesday fast.
Today I’m hoping to take MIL out for shopping and lunch, I’ll just have a coffee. But the weather is awful so we’ll see. She’ll be so disappointed if we dont go. I have a friend coming to help me.
10 days to go – really need to continue with positive attitude and measure and weigh all foods to calculate those calories honestly! Its so easy to kid myself!!
Goodluck every one.
Bigs virtually hugs to those going through tough times x
Day 20 Surrey UK NFD NOW DAY 21 and today is a FD…. Oh my, I started this post yesterday and then got side tracked by the needs of the family. Bit of a bother with eating last night, had too many werthers sweets. I don’t know why I suddenly feel like having sweet things! I don’t normally have a sweet tooth.
I really wish everyone well on this forum, those who are struggling with family issues, take heart and take strength from all the support in this group. As well as dealing with food and weight issues, there are still the things of life going on, but I do think we are all quite strong fundamentally, and I am very grateful to be part of such a group! Thinking of everyone here makes the fast days so much easier, but I am also going to call on the strength of this group for the feast days! Thank you all. xxx
Day 21…. Florida……. FD
I ate terrible all weekend, glad it’s a FD today. I know that the scales and I will not see eye to eye tomorrow. Although, I could kick myself in the hind end, I think I’m okay with it. I knew at some point, we were going to disagree, and I also know that it was going to be my fault.
Only three days of work this week and three days until my boys are home. They are having such a good time. They both deserve the fun and relaxation. This was my youngest first year going with the boys, I think waiting for a deer in the woods is a bit daunting for him, but my husband says he is loving the fellowship he’s receiving. He getting some really sound advice on love, family, the future and our Lord. Everything a young man needs before they venture out into the real world as adults.
I’m especially excited because that means my husband and I raised not only one exceptional young man but two!
So far, the boys have successfully gotten two deer and seen a couple inches of snow. I’m glad they got to experience the snow, because my husband was talking about moving back up north once the kid was off to college, hopefully, hes come to his senses cuz this girl does not do well in the cold…. brrr!
Well, I’m off…. must try and not be late today!
Cheers!
Day 21 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD
Well, I’ve already started my FD, even though technically is a NFD! …Since I’m fasting tomorrow. And it is almost tomorrow anyway, or will be in 45 minutes! Yes, another late night working on a class assignment. I’m on a roll that would be difficult to pick up again tomorrow so will be seeing it through again into wee hours. I’m doing pretty well despite this lack of sleep challenge.
Day 21 – Cumbria UK – FD
Had a good weekend and today I am on my 2nd back to back FDs (500cal) and hoping to stay strong.
I had a bit of calorie overload on Day 17 evening and still not know why I fell off the wagon so badly. I did not have a good sleep that night and did not feel so good – so the next day I tried to re focus on why I follow this way of life and this has helped me to move forward in a positive manner……….
As I only started using the tracker on here for the 30 Day November Challenge, I have now gone into my tracker and inputted my weight for roughly every month since January 2016 – all had been noted in my diary!
It has been fascinating to look back at where I came from and where I am now – I would like to share my journey:-
I initially went from 75kg to 68.8kg the previous year (2015) by following the 5:2 DIET (note:- I used to see it as a diet back then!) on and off…….
In January 2016 having re read Dr Mosley’s book I got motivated to see this as a WAY OF LIFE and NOT A DIET for the long term health benefits and with a weight loss target to get into my wedding dress (36th wedding anniversary this year) by the end of year – hence the target weight of 55kg which was about my weight when I got married!!!!
Joining this November challenge has given me the last push that I needed – Last week at my weigh in I was down 3.2kg for the month and therefore only 1.3kg off my target – so fingers crossed that I will get there by the end of the year.
Thank you to all the contributors on this forum – Reading your daily ups and downs and knowing that there is support out there if you look for it has proved so helpful.
It has been great reading how everyone tackles their FDs and I learnt about various ways of fasting e.g. back to back FDs, Fluid only FDs and 16:8 fasting – I have been able to use those various systems of fasting to get my weight moving downwards again, having basically plateaued for the last 3 months before this challenge. THANK YOU
I wish you all a positive week for that final push to the end of the month.
Day 21 USA (Illinois)
FD for me today. I need to lose the couple pounds I picked up over the weekend with eating out and not as much exercise. I am technically still on maintenance, but will stay more vigilant on my NFD’s. Those are still the worst!
I talked to a friend at church yesterday about our website, and I hope I can support her in beginning 5:2. She’s a widow and a dear lady. She’s still considering our WOL.
Onward and downward!
Australia Day 22 NFD. Monday was supposed to be a fast day but a full-on day supporting my brother while also managing the business remotely. I have to return home tomorrow and know that my brother will probably be drinking by the weekend again. The hospital turned us away last night and no specialist services will be able to see him for several weeks. I don’t know what to do.
US SC Day 21 FD
Not sure how to arrange my two FD’s this week as I have company company on Wednesday, more on Thursday and none leave till Sunday. I could try to do back to back but not sure I want to. Maybe 16:8 for the rest of the week till the holiday is over will help.
Hannah, my heart goes out to you. I so wish I could wave a magic wand and make everything right. My father was an alcoholic who quit drinking on the birth of his 5th child. I was quite young at the time so don’t have any memories of him drinking. He managed to stay sober for the rest of his life till is death over 20 years ago. There is always hope.
Still day 21 West Oz third post!
Just reading some of the posts for motivation as I drink my nth cup of weak tea tonight and hanging out for tomorrow.
Just wanted to send heartfelt thoughts and hugs and wishes and prayers to Hannah. Your situation sounds awful. Just wish there was something that could be done so you and your brother could get the assistance and help you need. Makes me so mad that there is such a lack of services and help for mental health problems in this country of ours. Hang in there Hannah, thinking of you.🤔
Day 21 Portugal FD
Gosh, two thirds of the way through the month! Still time to make a difference, although I think I will be doing well not to gain anything this month. Will wait and see how the next 10 days go. Planning 4:3 this week, hopefully today, Wednesday and Friday. Did some strength training this am, will be feeling it tomorrow.
Hannah, I don’t have anything to offer you other than virtual hugs…so sorry. Please remember we’re all thinking of you. Xx
The weather has really hit the UK with a vengeance! It is a foul day. I drove over to see my son at uni, it’s his first year and he’s only 20 miles away! He was very pleased to see me and I took him out for breakfast. It was quite a struggle to stick to my cup of tea while he tucked into a full English breakfast! I just told my self that as I hadn’t made it myself I probably wouldn’t like it anyway! I thought a Monday in November would be a good day to mooch around the shops and do some Christmas shopping…wrong! It was packed and the queues were really long at all the tills. I’d left home at 9am and didn’t get back until 3:30. Totally pooped now, I have made some veg soup and will have a small bowl to keep me going until tea time. Then I’ve got to go back out in this storm to do the weekly shop…I haven’t really thought this through!
Good luck everyone as we go into the final push for this challenge.
@hannah: are you in touch with AA, and Alanon,as resources? Take care with best wishes from far away.
Day 21: Gloucestershire, UK: Fast-day: Fellow fasters today…stay strong.
Patti67: Stay STRONG.
Not long to go to the end of this November Challenge.
I am intending to put up the December Challenge in due course….(unless someone has beaten me to it, and I haven’t noticed!)….I hope many of you sign up, in order to keep up the way of life to Christmas and beyond….but forgive me if I don’t always keep track of who’s checked in each day and who hasn’t. I may not be good at that…ha..ha!!
Day 21, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Fasting
Good Morning All. Survived the huge Thanksgiving dinner yesterday (four generations of laughing, singing, guitar picking, game playing, eating fools !
I did fine, ate lots of vegetables, ate some of my Watergate salad green fluff and skipped all the other pies/cakes/cheesecakes, etc. – not necessarily due to the calories but because I really wasn’t hungry. Will be doing it all over again on Thanksgiving so will probably eat some pumpkin pie then. Didn’t get in much exercise other than walking around a lot and lifting my fork (okay and lifting my wineglass a wee little bit). But it was wonderful and I slept great! Back at work and fasting from 7 last night until 7 tonight and then will have salad with added protein.
Headed out for a nice, long walk as we are having unseasonably warm weather for this time of year and I want to enjoy every second.
Have a great day, all.
Day 21. Florida USA NFD on top of everything else we decided over the weekend to sell her house and move! A little stress eating going on. Then packing to go up North for 5 weeks tomorrow – house goes on the market tonite so I am making everything picture perfect. Running around packing a week’s worth of primping into a day. Hopefully some good so we’ll come along and decide to buy themselves a Christmas present and it will be sold by the time we come back In January then we have to find somewhere to move to. – a little spur-of-the-moment.
Day 21 Wellington New Zealand FD
Survived the weekend (4 days) of golf, 4 rounds and I logged up 68,000 steps on my pedometer over those 4 rounds. That made me feel a lot better when I reviewed my food & hydration intake so over the same period and I’ve convinced myself that 1 round of golf (17,000 steps) equates to the not too out of control food and alcohol intake.
Planning another FD tomorrow and may even toss in a 3rd one this week. Isn’t this WOL terrific as long as the discipline is maintained. Cheers, Mike
Day 22 – Melbourne – NFD
Happy Tuesday All!
@lindasue, well done you for the restraint in the face of grave provocation.
@songbird, yes, it’s therapeutic to have a good whinge now and again and that’s what us Forum Friends are for!
Good FD yesterday in that I didn’t eat until 6pm and only 250 cal. Not so good in that I was hungry by 4pm and started to lose concentration and think about food a lot!
Taking on board the retraining aspects of stomach learning to be frequently empty and the brain learning to change the signals, and repeating it to myself – it takes about 2 months or so to start to settle into this WOE. Anecdotally that is, from some other threads as well. I do look forward to the time that it will be easy to do fast days, and just another day of the week.
@hannah you and your family are in my prayers.
B2tf: Thank you for that, it was interesting. I found a youtube video suggesting that such a test was useful for people who had contracted food poisoning and were at risk of dehydration owing to fluid loss from vomiting and from diarrhea.
******The question is, do otherwise healthy (i.e. no food poisoning present) people really get dehydrated as easily as believed?*******
On Feb. 20, 2015, experts came together at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad, California, for the 2015 CrossFit Conference on Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia, organized by the HEAT Institute. Among the speakers was Dr. Mitchell H. Rosner of the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
And here’s the link to the youtube lecture: “Dispelling Hydration Myths with Dr. Michael Rossner” Forum users may wish to note that at t = 8:14, he dispels the idea that drinking a large volume of fluid over the day will reduce ingested calories. There is also no evidence to suggest drinking over and above thirst improves fatigue, mental awareness, arthritis, migraines, dry skin, nosebleeds, constipation, amongst other claimed but not proven benefits.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEISKcIMSHk
Dr. Rossner, quotes a paper in which “a rise in serum osmolality of less than 2 per cent promotes the sensation of thirst, whereas dehydration is defined as when a person has lost greater than 3 per cent of body weight which increases serum osmolality by at least 5 per cent.” [** I think that weight loss of greater than 3 per cent is intended to refer to a sudden such loss, e.g as the result of food poisoning, and not a loss due to going on a 5:2 diet which is much more gradual a loss. ** ]
Anyway, Dr. Rossner quoted that paper to dispel the myth that “by the time one is thirsty, one is already dehydrated.” Dr. Rossner suggests that it is unlikely evolutionary development left us ill equipped to know when to drink fluids. We get thirsty for a reason – to guide us when to drink.
For those short on time, his conclusions are at t = 21:58 into the video. As to the benefit of increasing fluid intake to an arbitrary and high amount.: He suggests that drinking up to 8 glasses of water, over and above the fluid one takes in from eating as well as drinking, is arbitrary and may not just not bring the benefits claimed, it could be dangerously excessive. (Marathon runners have been known to die from drinking too much water as this can bring on a condition known as hyponatremia, or too little salt.)
Day 21 FD London
Had a bit of an indulgent weekend with some exercise thrown in, so was bizarrely looking forward to fasting. It was ok today and made sure I had plenty of water and some dinner in the evening and may have just gone over 500kcal.
Feeling slimmer but not much movement on the scales as yet, which is disappointing but will try and persevere and carry on.
Hope everyone has had a good start to the week.
Hi all uk day 21 was a fd up to 6 o’clock then it wasn’t lol
I was doing great not feeling hungry at all just very very cold. I started to make dinner for family had my bone broth and made the mistake of popping a little chorizo in my mouth, cus a little bit won’t hurt, then another little bit then dinner looked so good so had a little bit of that too and it went down hill. Tomorrow is another day.
Got some replies ready to some folks but having caught up on reading it’s getting late so I will post tomorrow. But Hannahwatto I hope something came along to help your situation x
Day 21 – London, UK – NFD
Day 1 in Scotland visiting family, didn’t do too bad today, if over TDEE it won’t be by much. Aiming to maintain rather than lose this week, have to be realistic, don’t get as much opportunity to spend time with family so don’t want to be fussing too much over what I am eating and drinking, but I am staying mindful of distinct damage control!!
Good luck all, keep up the good work!!
Day 22. NFD West Australia.
So glad I stuck to FD yesterday and came in under 500 calories.( Had to read the posts here at 10.30 pm reading instead of eating to keep on track!)
The scales show the lowest number for some years and even allowing for fluid loss it is very motivating. Am determined not to undo the good work over the next 9 days. Would love to put my name down for the December challenge.
Thanks again to all you lovely people for posts and support. It has really made the difference for me. Without this forum I would not have succeeded.
Beautiful sunny day is calling me in to the garden. Hope you all have a good day. Stay strong.
Thoughts are with those struggling with any problems.
Onward and downward.😋😊
