Day 20 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD
Doing well. Had a raw mint cacao slice that was delicious and wasn’t compelled to have a second and third slice! In fact I went on to eat a delicious healthy lunch afterwards. I’m enjoying this WOL.

Day 20 Sunshine Coast Australia: FD: Going ok. Have been packing MIL’s room out all day and now aching from top to toe. 5 hours of driving ahead of me to morrow to deliver her stuff to her granddaughter. Not looking forward to it, but will be the golden opportunity to do another FD. I tried following what I could remember of your post, NorrieB, for the bone broth. Had it for dinner. Yummy.
Thinking of you Hannah. Such a difficult time for you and your brother. May it all work out for the better.
Off to bed now with a couple of panadol. Night.
Day 20 Cornwall UK NFD
This morning OH surprised me with breakfast in bed, lovely poached eggs on granary toast. Delicious! But calculated the calories and came to 411! I would have guesstimated less!! It will keep me going until this evening.
We have just got back from a 6 mile bike ride as the weather is sunny and calm. The sea was amazing big waves and St Michael’s Mount glistening in the sunshine, just so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place!!
HannahWatto, so sorry to hear your brothers not doing so well again. Mental health is a difficult one for families to deal with.
Fast day tomorrow, must continue being positive and motivated!!
Happy Sunday every one.
Day 20, Australia NFD
Pleased with the food choices I have made the last few nfd’s. Had a treat tonight, but stayed under tdee each day and actually felt happy to eat less instead of more. Stopped eating a few times before I was finished thinking I didn’t need to eat anymore, so happy about that. Hopefully that continues this week too.
Looking forward to fasting tomorrow and hopefully a b2b later in the week, I’m sticking to 4:3 this month in the hopes of reaching my goal, only 10 days left of this challenge, so a few more fasts to fit in and very mindful eating for my nfd’s.
Good luck everyone.
US SC Day 20 NFD. Had a successful liquid FD yesterday. Got lots of chores done. Have had 3 FD’s this week and just managed to maintain. I really need to get control of my NFD’s especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon.
Hannah.. so sorry to hear that your brother isn’t doing well again. Thoughts are with you and Ciren also. Stay strong!.
Day 20, London, NFD.
Prepped some roast cauli, spiced squash and oat-bran bread for today, to stop me picking at other stuff. Not sure that it will work (I have some work-related stuff eating into my weekend so feeling a tad bit sorry for myself), but at least tomorrow is a FD.
Read a bit more of Dr Fung’s book last night. Well, well….
Day 20 Florida USA NFD getting ready to go up north on Tuesday for the holidays for 5 weeks and everything is getting very challenging so I think what I am going to try and do is do 4 – 24 hour fasts this week which basically means I will only have dinner and coffee tea and water. Not sure if this shakeup will work but with traveling and the holidays – right now is seems like the best road to take. Have a good day
Day 20 UK NFD
Yesterday turned into a FD so that was good. Feeling good today and it’s day 20 so that means 10 days left of this challenge month. I have learned so much and yes did peak at the scales today, had originally decide not to until the 30th but couldn’t help it and guess what 20 days 7lb loss. Yay day!
Spurs me on for the rest of the week, and the next 10 days. Now I’m not saying I’ve been so precise with my cals, but I have eaten when hungry and eaten a lot less than usual on most days FDs and NFDs. Upped the water, with lemon.
Like the idea Itsmyturn of the 24 hour fasts. Just dinner. Will try and go fo 4/3 this week. I love other members ideas and like to try different things. Keeps it interesting.
Good luck all
Hannawatto
My heart goes out to you at this time as I have mentioned before I have the same issues with my son. Just remember that there is nothing we can do except be there for them let them know they’re loved but they have to work it out themselves. We take on so much responsibility and we have to just let it go.
I did a three-day Family Conference in March when my son was in Rehab and it involved 15 families — one or two members from each family and it was probably the best thing I did. My daughter and I went and I think it was incredible for her. She adores her
big brother and blames herself for a lot of his
problems which is ridiculous but it’s a fact. We both
came away from the three-day conference with
families in the same position a little more in control of
ourselves and understanding we cannot control the
situation. I never realized how much responsibility I
felt for his issues because it is a family problem –
generations of my family have fought this battle
and the one thing I did learn in this was there is
nothing we can do – we make excuses we cry we talk we turn ourselves inside out and it is their decision
– they have to make the decision to get better and to stick to it I cannot tell you how many times my son
has been in rehab and the tens of thousands of dollars we’ve put into it and it all comes down to the
fact that nothing will happen until he’s ready. He is in
his 8 month of soberiy very positive and happy in his very busy life and we live our lives waiting for the other shor to drop. Stay strong♡
supportive you are in my thoughts and prayers at this
trying time .
Hi everyone day 20 uk nfd
@bert – usual suspect is wheat and Gluten but could be others. The body is amazing at adapting no matter what junk we put in because it has no other choice. It is only when you stop putting it in and the body has had a break it tells you loud and clear when you reintroduce those foods. When I tried Atkins a few years ago when I ate my first simple carbs in weeks I immediately blew up like a balloon and felt really ill. Yet before I never really had a problem, apart from being over weight! At the moment I am getting headaches but not sure what is triggering them – is it food? Not enough water or combination. An elimation diet is a good way to start.
@hannahwatto – so sorry that things are not good again with your brother. Hugs x
@lilymartin what about putting the numbers in first for meals and then if you have any left over you decide what you can do with them, save them or spend them! Rather than spend first and then realise you are overdrawn?
@rocy65 – it’s amazing that some food doesn’t sound like it could be much is almost 1/3 of daily intake when it’s actually added up.
@B2tf – that is how I feel too about feeling an addiction it is like being taken over by another at times. Do I count my blessings that drink is not my addictive substance most certainly? They say sugar is a highly addictive and withdrawals are very real from headaches, shakes, mood swings and depression. But I guess my battle with weight is at least not as damaging to those around me or to me and now with 5:2 I have a way of dealing with it and though not without its ups and downs nothing compared to others’ battles.
The first draft of our holiday had 2 nights in Chicago, 1 in Minneapolis, 1 on train in a roomette, 3 in glazier park, 1 again on train, 2 in Seattle and then onto Vancouver for 5 nights but this has come in over budget and feel we are trying to fit too much in by including Vancouver. We may have to leave Vancouver and do Canadian rockies another time. So we may stay longer in national park and or longer in Seattle. Still working it all out. So any tips, must do’s etc would be appreciated.
Day 20 – London, UK – FD
Have stuck with the 24hr fast between evening meals and it’s been pretty easy! I have tried to make wise choices whilst eating out and stick with just the one glass of wine. So going into my next 5 days in Scotland with the family feeling strong, hope I can keep it up!!
Will attempt to keep up posting whilst away but please forgive me if i don’t manage every day, it’s always busy catching up with everyone!
My daughter’s 25th birthday today so off out again, will try and be good.
Wishing you all success and wellness going forward! Sorry to hear of the folks among us going through troubled times, I hope you find peace soon.
Ack, ack, missed again. Came in, read posts, went away without posting yesterday! (B2tf, what is the ‘pinch-to-the-back-of-the-hand-‘ test for dehydration? How much skin should there be?
Catching up. The FD on Day 18 concluded pretty well.
Day 19. E. Canada NFD.
Had 3/4 of a bagel (meant to eat only 1/2, must remember to throw away 1/2 right away. 250, Then a Bagel with smoked salmon and a bit of cream cheese for lunch and 1/2 of dinner. 450/st 700 A cookie 320, . So we’re up to 1020. Raked leaves (still too rainy to cycle but it stopped long enough to rake.) Had salad with 1 t of dressing 50, about 4 sauteed shrimp – 80?, and maybe a bit of chicken, 40, a bit of rice 40, and then other for 100, st 1320, so pretty close to TDEE – oh, and ate some small chocolate samples at a craft fair, so we’ll say 1400.
Day 20. E. Canada FD, I think, We shall see.
So far bran flakes (larger bowl than usual) 240, 1/2 banana 60, 1/3 small tin of ham 70, leftover salad 30 st. 400. Hmm, will be a challenge to stick to 500-600 calories for a FD. I think I’ll try for a bike ride before it starts raining again.
Day 20… Florida…. NFD
This darn thing…. I had my whole post written then it disappeared on me. Ugg! Believe when I tell you the first version was a master piece.
Itsmyturn….. I’m right there with you, sometimes I feel like I’m not losing as well. However, weight loss can not always be measured by what we lose but rather by what we gain.
I have gain…. energy loads of it, clothes fit so much better. I’ve even worn some that haven’t seen the light of day in years and I can bend, crouch even sit on the floor and get back up without my whole body screaming in terror.
Maybe looking for your gains will give you a better sense of what you’ve lost to keep moving in the right direction….
back2future and Coda…. like my sister, you are all very wise. I’m feel a bit better, yesterday I cut out fried and spicy foods. Today, will be bread. Once I find the culprit, it will be gone for good.
20 days, my gosh where has the time gone. All though I’ve had some ups and downs, I have found that I’m actually enjoying everything that comes along with this new WOL. I’m ready for the Dec challenge!
Yesterday was a good day, I worked my Sat. Glad that’s over until next month… We were to busy, I think the holidays are slowing some construction down. For those who don’t know, I work in kitchen, bath and floor design. Love my job, it’s fun taking a blank canvas (house) and turning it into a master piece.
But, when I got home, I felt like doing nothing. Then three hours later, POW! My second wind and I blitzed my whole house. Finally, 2am and with the smell of bleach and no dirt in sight, I slept. My oldest, he’s 20 strolled in about 1am, and thought I lost my mind…. kept asking me if I was alright. But to be fair…. I always clean when I’m upset or stressed. The cool thing is, I wasn’t upset or stressed last night, I just had so much energy, that I was out of control. Another plus, it that I can start pulling out my holiday junk…. not today but after Thanksgiving. Today, I’m clearing out the closet for the cloths swap on Sat.
I’m also going to control more of what goes in even though it’s a NFD. Tonight, I meet up with friends for dinner.
That’s my life in a nutshell……..
Have a great day!
Michelle
Day 20 – Cumbria UK – FD
Cold but sunny day in Cumbria with the fells all covered in snow – beautiful place – so lucky to live here!
Today was not meant to be a FD but looks like it will be by default. The OH did a fell race and I went along for support and since dinner last night at 1930hrs all I have had today so far is water or tea with a splash of skimmed milk – planning dinner now and I think it will be easy to keep mine under 500cals.
I had already planned for tomorrow to be a 500cals FD so now aiming to do back to back FDs as I’m out for dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! Will definitely need to be mindful of my eating on those 3 days…….as I’ll be drinking a couple of glasses of wine each night no doubt!
I might aim for another 500cals FD on Friday to finish the week on a strong positive as we now have only 10 days left in this 30 Day November Challenge.
@alanix – Like you I find 24hr fasting on my FD thus saving my calories for my evening meal works best for me too
@hannahwatto – positive thoughts coming your way and just in case you need one – a big virtual hug
Good luck to all in this challenge for the final stretch
Day 20,NFD, Canada
Coda, don’t miss Vancouver on your trip! Maybe only 2 nites in Glacier park? Take the ferry from Seattle to Victoria, then ferry from Victoria to Vancouver. Take a day trip up to Whistler from Vancouver. Absolutely amazing scenery and depending what time of year you are travelling there is a good chance of seeing orcas on your ferry rides.
Day 20 – WA USA NFD
Today I wrote me TDEE goal at the top of my food journal. I went over by about 100 calories 2 days in a row. I want to get things back under the wire.
Coda – you mentioned that you’re wanting to stay within a budget for your train travel. I agree with In It to Thin It, that you don’t want to miss BC. On the other hand ferry rides are quite spendy & Canada is expensive. It might be better to leave BC for another trip. Glacier is breathtaking.
It depends how you like to travel also. I have found over time that sometimes less is more so one can savor or savour.
D21, Melbourne, Australia, FD
Not really sure if this is considered a FD or not. Will complete 48hr fast tonight with dinner but will certainly not be 500! Wil be nearer FDEE.
Feeling good with fast. No real hunger pangs. Had a 4.5 k walk with son yesterday – 30c – a bit hot!! He’s a fast walker so I felt quite tired by the end by felt good having done it.
Have a good week all.
Hi init and AnneMarilyn – we travelled to NZ 2011 and loved it but we tried to do too much taking in both islands in a campervan. It’s bigger than it looks lol. So I am wary of trying to fit too much in rather than relax and enjoy what we can. We could have a couple of nights in Vancouver but would that do it justice? Maybe leaving Vancouver and BC for another time would be better? Tho all still in planning stage. Thanks for the input x
Day 21 – FD – Melbourne
Late post last night, early post today. Very hot start to the night and poor sleep.
Four days of NFD in a row. No blowouts but probs a little over the aim. Managed to wait until lunch time on 2 days, before eating.
My prayers are with you all for strength and success, and especially for those with other health, family and life issues (mentioned or not) xxoo
We are at the start of Week 4 – Well Done Us!!!!
Day 20 – Los Angeles – FD
Hi Everyone,
Fast day here in LA. I didn’t have eggs so I had to settle for yogurt for breakfast which isn’t really my first choice. Still, making it through the day with some football and coffee (not the same as football and beer for those who are wondering).
Looking forward to a filling vegi soup and fiber one for dinner!
MB
Day 21 West Australia FD
Kept to my TDEE, not easily but I did it.
What hard work!!! I like the WOL of 5:2 for general health but to lose weight …….
Since November 1st , having calculated my TDEE ( 1500 calories) , on NFDs I am eating less than HALF of what I was eating beforehand. On FDs 1/4 of that new TDEE ( 375 or less than 500 calories).
So in effect much less than 1/8 of pre-November 1st food intake on FDs. To do this I have had to be really vigilant in what I eat by weighing, counting calories properly and not guessing.
Last night to stay within my TDEE on a NFD it was scrambled eggs on toast – no milk cream or butter and 1 slice wholegrain toast.
Happy to re-set my appetite which has happened and learn to listen to my body – stop eating when full but it is a long journey!
Coda – I usually do try to plug in the numbers as I go so I know how much I have to work with for each meal but over Friday and Saturday not able to – didn’t take my computer with us. But lesson learnt , do NOT guess – measure or weigh!!! Still happy to do this for the next 10 days as it is the only way I seem to stay on track.
Watched a film last night set in the 60s and we all commented on how much thinner all the people were – looked like a natural thing. Not an overweight person in sight. So what is different now??
PS How come it takes a few days to put ON a few kilos and several months to remove them?!!
Day 20– Colorado, USA– NFD
Wow, this weekend sped by! Tomorrow is my first day back to work in 3 weeks post-surgery.
Recovery is coming well. I’m confined to “desk duty” helping with monthly documentation, etc instead of my actual job (Surgical RN) because I’m required to sit with my leg propped up, but I’m really looking forward to seeing all my co-workers again!
I’m also excited about keeping busy & getting back to my routine!!!!
Busy + Routine = easier to handle Fast Days. For sure.
second post.
Just read this on Tom Venuto’s site Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle
“Fourth, almost everyone underestimates their food intake. The famous New England Journal of Medicine study (Lichtman) is the classic example, where women who swore they were “diet resistant” and had thyroid problems were actually underestimating their food intake by 47% and overestimating their calories burned by 51%.”
Sounds like me!!
Also regarding plateaus :
“The energy balance equation is always with us, but ENERGY BALANCE IS DYNAMIC! This means your calorie needs can change based on your body size, activity level and countless other factors. If you fail to adjust your caloric intake and expenditure in real time to accommodate for your continuously changing energy needs, you’re likely to struggle with plateaus and be never-endingly perplexed about their cause.”
Day 21 – New Zealand – Fast Day
Didn’t have a great weekend food wise, youngest daughter had spent 24 hours doing Relay for Life (a cancer fundraiser), and came home exhausted and hungry and requested a bath, cheese scones and bed (in that order). Who can resist hot scones with butter and jam? Fasting today, I find days at work so much easier than days at home with family to feed, a pantry to raid and a fridge to forage in!
Day 20 Melbourne Australia – FD
Sorry i have been MIA for the past week or so, my 8 month old boy got really sick and had a fever for 3 days! he is much better now but it was quite hard to stick to my FD’s while at home looking after him, i find i do so much better at work.
Weighed in on Wednesday and i had lost another KG but i am not looking forward to this Wednesday as i know i haven’t been too good this past week! We live and learn! i am happy to be fasting today, it’s gonna be a warm 38 degrees here today i am more thirsty than hungry today!!
Day 20 USA (Illinois)
NFD today – very full and marvelous day with our Choral SocietyConcert this afternoon. I am so happy with how everything went! So many wonderful compliments on my choice of music and performance. And people are still noticing my weight loss! It all has made me feel wonderful today. Will weigh in after tomorrow’s FD.
I am sorry I haven’t been able to read all the posts, but I will try to go back tomorrow, read, and lend support.
Coda – your trip sounds marvelous! If there is anything I can do for your time in Chicago, please let me know. I live about 2.5 hours west of there but maybe could do something? We did Glacier by car but everyone says the train is the best way to see that park.
Day 20/21 FD NYC
Oops I forgot to write again today, it’s 1230 am so technically the end of my day 20.
It’s all been going fine. I just don’t feel I’m losing weight, at the moment I am losing weight but .4 of a lb or something ridiculous but I am fine with this being a new way of life at this time. I find the fd’s easy. I might just stop weighing myself completely for the time being and do a weigh in at the end of this month challenge.
Thanks
Day 21 – Switzerland – NFD
Okay, so one missed FD and four days of hopeless eating have led to a gain this week – up 600g/1.3lbs to 90.1kg / 198.6lbs. Doesn’t seem like much but has set me back by 1.5kg on where I could have been, had I stuck to the plan.
Back to basics, healthy veggies today. Good luck, self-care and determination to everyone on the challenge today!
