Day 17 London UK FD
Late posting for yesterday. Ive moved into a far more flexible and sustainable pattern of fasting for me. For 2 days a week I’m now attempting full 24 hour fasts, then having my 500 calories or thereabouts. Thursdaay was due to be a fast but i woke feeling strange so i didnt fast at all, i think i needed the break from it and ended up doing a slimming world day instead also keeping to tdee. Its done the world of good and yesterday i did my 2nd fast of the week and feel back in control. For me being able to switch days works well with my lifestyle and i don’t feel like a failure like on other plans.
@wellrounded – no, not giving up coffee/caffeine, was just wondering why it took five cups of freshly ground to get myself going in the morning. Also because a nice hot cup of coffee really makes me crave something sweet and sugary, and cravings I can do without!
Looking back on this week, from Weds on I ate loads and loads of processed rubbish, sweets, cake, fast food – so it’s not surprising that I couldn’t get started, was probably facing an insulin mountain each morning. Not so easy to work out what’s at the root of such flamboyant self-sabotage, but I didn’t care enough about myself to put on the brakes. I think I was trying to make myself feel better, but it felt like trying to fill a bottomless hole, and ultimately left me feeling worse. Must remember that for next time.
Normally I avoid coffee on FDs as I like it with milk, which sets off hunger pangs and uses kcals I’d rather spend on food. This week it has been the least of my problems!
Day 18, NZ, NFD
Full day catching up on gardening / house chores.
Feeling super tired – eaten well but need to watch I don’t start snacking now right before bed!
Bert – yes, I am finding my tummy gets terribly upset after NFDs – not eating anything different but the food (any type) seems to go right through me when I first break my fast, especially if I do b2b FDs. After that things settle down. Sorry if too much info!!
Take care all. Xxx
Day 19 UK NFD
Keeping up the momentum of yesterday’s Fast day. Healthy choices day. Checking in early as busy day.
Commenting on earlier posts I do also not feel so good the day after a NFD, it must be the food I am picking not the amount as I find I do eat less now as I get fuller quicker. However on NFD I do tend to go for slightly richer foods. Just goes to show what your body puts up with and how you get used to the feeling.
This 5 2 certainly puts another spin on eating, in such a short time for me, started November the 1st. I noticed others who have done previous months like setting themselves further challenges as you feel so much better after a FD.
Good luck all. Keep going!
Day 19 | NFD | Bucks UK
Successful FD yesterday, rare Friday fast and 4:3 for me, no extra weight reduction or gain makes this weeks total 3.5lbs π
Still can do a few more hours before I eat…
About take my 12yr old daughter to vocal lessons but she would much rather be in bed and is having a sulk… she’ll thank me one day when she’s famous and the thin me will be cheering her on damn it!!
Have a nice Saturday.. nuff love x
@bert1802 Yes!!! I am always feeling rough on the day after FDs, normally after lunch. My syptoms are (apologies) bloated, windy, constipation/upset
When I’m at work I’m not that hungry and no longer snack before lunch. I never sure what i want to eat. I no longer eat sandwiches for lunch. Last week i tried chicken strips and fruit and i was okish…
Day 19….. Florida…….NFD
Time4me and MissyJ……. I really thought at first I had a stomach bug, seems like everyone has been sick at work, then I started to notice the pattern between FD and NFD. Since I’ve got NFD for 2days in a row, I’m going to elimate fried foods and spicy food today from my diet to see if that with tummy issues tomorrow then another group Sunday until I can find the culprit.
I was talking to my sister last night, telling her about my issue, she suggested I do this because these were her symptoms when she was diagnosed last year with IBS and gluten allergies and her doctor told her to start eliminating foods until she had no symptoms, all this why she was tested for different food allergies. She found out she’s is allergic to wheat, soy, nuts, dairy and egg products. Also her body reacts negatively to fennel and cinnamon, although allegy test for it came back negative.
Not sure if this will help and I don’t believe I have either IBS or a gluten allergy but if I can calm this belly even just a bit, I’m all for it. She also suggested I visit a doctor but I’m out on that, but she’s been trying for years to get me to see as she puts it a real doctor! Just because I don’t believe in traditional medicine.
Alright, I think I did enough rambling for today…. Today, is my Sat to work, so I must be off and at least try to be on time today!
Day 19. Sunshine Coast Australia: NFD: Home again a day early. Coming down with a head cold. Last couple of days have eaten very poor choices. Amazing how much damage one can do. Tomorrow is a new start. ( sounds like a government policyπ€π©). I have just gone back and have read pages 18-21. Saw where HannahWatto mentioned a catch up. I’m so sorry I missed that Hannah. It would have been lovely. Next time or maybe when you come north if that is ever on the cards.
Will continue to catch up on posts since page 21, but it takes time to absorb what everyone says. Tomorrow will be spent packing up mil’s clothes, books, photos and all she has accumulated over the past 3 years. I hope she will be happy in her new home.
Don’t know if I’m game to get on the scales till I have had a successful fast day. Can’t remember the last one. It has to be at least 2 weeks. Plenty of inspiration on the thread so will take the bull by the horns and get back into the rhythm of 5:2. Goodnight all. It’s 10:54pm.
Day 19 – Italy NFD
Blew another FD yesterday, I managed to get past dangerous o’clock (yay!) but at dinner time my old nemesis, my daughters leftover pizza got the better of me for the first time in ages. I clocked in at about 900cals.
Today, I wanted to try again but instead I got the kitchen scales out. I fancied couscous and butter beans for lunch. I measured out 100g of couscous(much less than I thought) and 100g of butter beans for 600cals. I was amazed how little there was on my plate.
I’m going to make a real effort to measure everything I bet I’m eating loads over what I think
Day 18 Florida USA NFD. Checking in sticking to my tdee but don’t feel like I’m losing any weight at all. Still doing back to back fast days my body must be adjusting to something – don’t know what but just not a clean feeling – it’s kind of puffy holding on to lbs kind of a feeling. I know the scale owe me so it is a wait and see and stick to the plan time. Have a great day.
Day 19, NFD,Canada
2 parties this weekend at my house so my resolve will be tested. Hosting my bridge group today and the usual fare is yummy desserts and wine. I decided to provide desserts that I don’t like,haha-yes there are some . . . so easier to serve those and not indulge in myself. Tomorrow hosting a party to watch the football western semi finals (go Lions!). Contrary to form will sneak in some healthy alternatives – veggies and dip, roasted cauliflower, fruit kabobs and will stick to those and avoid the higher calorie choices.
Judy toronto I am plant-based too, but have to avoid rice on FD. I substitute riced cauliflower. Also I find if I eat kidney beans I totally quell my appetite, 2 tbsp is only 30 calories. For a sweet craving I like 1 cup of frozen cranberries whizzed in the blender with a cup of water, tsp ofpsyllium and a few drops of stevia- 50 cals. It is thick like a smoothie and feels like an indulgent treat. Found that recipe in Dr.Greger’s book “How not to die” which is wonderfully inspiring!!!
Day 19 Cornwall UK NFD
Yesterday fd went well though had hoped to be liquids only, I was under 400 cals so ok.
This morning down 1.5lbs so only 6lbs to target!
Ciren2 sad to hear your OH family news, that is tough. x
Fuvvie hope you enjoyed your travels and pleased to be home. Life will be easier with your MIL in a home and I hope she settles in well. It took my MIL a few months. Its just a relief that she’s really well looked after.
You’ll get back into 5.2 wol and see the numbers go down when you feel you can get on the scales!
Reid I came to the same conclusion on fast days if I bad breakfast I was hungry all day. I just have an evening meal about 400 cals. I no longer eat bread I have oat cakes. I have replaced rice and noodles with the Konjak equivalent or cauli rice, so I dont have that bloated feeling.
And exhale – we’re all so different! A coffee with splash of skimmed milk fills me up on fast days that and sparkling mineral water!
Hollylj – cold pizza, hard to resist!! I now measure/weigh everything so count cals accurately . I too was shocked at the amount on my plate, makes you realise why we over eat by under estimating the calories we consume!
So a day of mindful eating so far a banana, bone broth, cottage cheese with celery and carrot sticks. This evening OH has made a prawn curry which Ill have with Konjak rice. I’ll have a glass of wine first for the week!.
All the best to you all and have a good mindful weekend!
Day 19: Gloucestershire, Cotswolds, UK: Fast-day.
Making up for my lapse yesterday, feeling much stronger today. Hope it lasts. Just porridge at 5.30am before work and water now and til’ tomorrow breakfast.
Thank you so much everybody for your kind words, prayers and virtual hugs for my husband’s brother and sister.
Stuff happens…it’s life.
Day 19; Toronto; NFD
Reid and Back2thefuture:
Thank you both so much for your wise words!
Reid, I love the idea of the psyllium, I will pick up some and use it for my fast days.
Back2thefuture, I will try not eating any carbs on my fast days, I’ll stick to tofu and vegetables. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to get to my bedtime without any trips to the kitchen.
Wishing everyone a great day and will share how things are going with the new changes.
Georgia/USA/Day 19/NFD:
I’m thinking about turning today into a FD. Just had some coffee and a 100 cal snack. Wasn’t feeling the scale this morning. I have a wedding reception to go to this afternoon. Not feeling that either, but I have to accompany my bf so… I hope to get some studying done this early afternoon though. We’ll see how things go this weekend. Have a great Saturday Everyone!
Australia Day 20 NFD apologies for not posting the last couple of days. Those of you who have been on these challenges since Coda first established them in May will know about my brother’s issues with anxiety, depression and alcoholism. He’s in a bad way again so I flew down yesterday and will be here for a few days.
Day 19, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non-Fasting
Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous Fall Day in the Ozarks! Lots to do, getting ready for a family Thanksgiving at the granddaughter’s house (about two hours away). Taking my always requested sweet potatoes (real sweet potatoes, boiled-peeled-sliced thickly, layered in a casserole between layers of a syrup of brown sugar, orange juice and real butter – topped with mini marshmallows (of course) and popped under the broiler until crispy. ( I frankly prefer mine just baked with a little butter and cinnamon but tradition insists that we eat these – and they are quite good ! )
Also taking the ever popular Watergate (pistachio fluff) salad.
Will be doing Thanksgiving here at the farm on Thursday or Friday (not sure as have to confirm everything with the “blended” families tomorrow. We have had two divorces in the family this year, sadly, and coordinating who has the kids when is becoming an issue. We are very flexible, whatever works the best is fine with me.
Eating is going okay, not thinking too much about it, hoping to eat sanely tomorrow and feel that I will. If not, M – Tu – Wed are fasting days before another feast so that should help. Exercise and water as planned !
Wishing you all well.
Day 20 NFD West Australia
Family and friends all day yesterday, ate mindfully and healthily, crunched the numbers at night and … 800 calories over TDEE!! So in 2 days have eaten 3 days equivalent and it is mainly very thin slices of meat – less than 30 g, salads, steamed vegetables, a couple ( 3 ) of 15 g chocolates and 2 tbspns ice-cream. I have had a few slices of bread which I don’t usually do , so paring back amounts even further!!
It seriously IS amazing how small quantities of food need to be for me to stay within my TDEE. Who knew ??
I had to smile – my OH asked why I step on the scales and stand and look at them for ages. He asked me if I was hoping to exhale a few more calories and for the number to go down !! π
Thinking of you and your family Hannah, mental health issues so difficult to deal with and so poorly funded.
Hope everyone has time for themselves today and a day of rest. Me , I’m off to sing at a little bush church in the sticks.πΆ
Perth, Australia, Day 20, NFD
Thanks Diggly and B2tf for the welcome back π
Hmm, completely sabotaged my FD on Friday. Started off really well, minimal calories consumed during the day (splashes of milk in 2 coffees). It was great, work kept me from thinking about food. Get home, decided to call a friend and headed to the local markets. Umm, big mistake. I won’t go into what I consumed, let’s just agree it was over 500. My only consolation is that I had essentially fasted 24 hours before the blow out.
Yesterday I was out and about and today too. Am meeting friends for lunch today at a pizzeria. Roll on tomorrow and my next fast day!
Still haven’t caught up on all the happenings in everybody’s lives. I’m sorry to hear about your family news @ciren2. What a shock on both fronts. Hope you’re all doing ok.
Day 19 – London, UK – NFD
Very late and on way to bed! Big old storm going on outside, good day, busy in the garden clearing up leaves so managed the 24hr fast til dinner tonight, planning the same tomorrow before celebrating my youngest daughter’s 25th Birthday in the evening. The scales were telling me it’s been a good plan so far, happy me.
Good night all, catch up tomorrow!
Day 19 – Los Angeles – NFD
It was a decent Non fasting day. Usually on the weekends I eat a little more than the week and consume more alcohol but nothing too crazy. Tomorrow is a fast day so that should be good. Doing a thanksgiving 10k with my son so will do a trial run tonight. That should help as well.
Thanks all for the support!

Day 19 – Canada – NFD
Up very eaRly this morning and went on a 10 km walk with some friends. .
Cold and rainy. Lovely walk through the woods in a conservation area. Saw five or six white tailed deer off in the distance. Lunch at a tea room – beef soup and salad.
Grandchildren and son here for supper tonight – Moroccan chicken stew. Not sure how my TDEE words out for today. Also had three glasses of wine. Will count more carefully tomorrow. Very tired now, snow flurries today on the drive home.
Day 19 / NFD / NC, US
I’m home for the week with parents and not exactly sure how well it’s going to work out. My boyfriend and I went to eat tacos and I had some chips and dip π it was really great. I had some potatoes from a roast my dad made, but that’s all for the day. Funny how one larger meal can keep me full all day! I’m hoping that the mindfulness I’ve been using to keep myself from eating everything is going to continue happening throughout this week of being home..
