  • Good morning, lovely people.

Day 18, London, FD (last minute decision to fast, to create some “credit” for the weekend. Quickly boiled some veg and liquidised them, before going to work, and voila- I have my veg soup for the day).

Adding to Coda’s frozen grapes idea- frozen berries work well, too. Also good for perking up plain yoghurt or throwing in together with frozen banana and blitzing into an ice-cream.

@richard67- how do you eat (or drink?) the egg white in a carton?

@In it to thin it- really liked the “accurate journal” line.

@and… exhale- I’m curious why are you giving up coffee? I have not missed some fasting requirement, have I? (Everyone is different, but I find that the “va banque” approach (all or nothing) usually backfires. With me, anyway.)

I will be on for December challenge, too, if there is one; though my aim for December would probably be simply not to gain weight (ha, low expectations are the secret of happiness, right?:-)).

    Have a good day.

Good morning, lovely people, my post disappeared but as it’s Friday, I am procrastinating with work, so will write again.

Day 18, London, FD (last minute decision, maybe to create some “credit” for the weekend).

@and… exhale- why are you giving up coffee (i.e., I have not missed some fasting requirement, have I?). Personally, I find that the “va banque” approach does not work (for me anyway) and the odd cup of coffee/glass of wine make me feel quite good, actually.

@Coda- good idea about frozen grapes. I also like having frozen berries to hand- they can perk up plain yoghurt, and are also nice blitzed with frozen banana- delicious “ice-cream”.

@Richard67- how do you eat (or drink?) egg white in a cartoon?

I will also be on for a December challenge (though my aim is likely to be simply not to put on weight during the festive season- ha, low expectations are the key to happiness, right ;-)).

    Day 18 Brisbane Australia FD
First time I have attempted 4:3 instead of 5:2. For some reason I really struggled today- up until now I have managed realatively easily on fast days – I wander why because I introduced a 3 rd one it was that much harder. It’s not as though I am starving myself. I has 200 cal for breakfast & struggled to get through to dinner when I had my 300, but still feeling hungry. May need to retire early!

My longer post disappeared, so just a quick check-in.

Day 18, London, FD (last minute decision, might as well earn me some “credit” before the weekend :-)).

Day 18 Cornwall UK liquid only fast day.

So far so good! Keeping busy been on my static bike hit, 30mjns pilates and cleaning and will change bedding! Waiting for a weather window to take the dog out for a good walk. He goes back to owners tomorrow and I’ll miss walks 3/4 times a day! Though I usually do one good walk a day!

Bone broth is ready and will have one portion about 1pm, so far water, tea and coffee.

Best of luck to all friday fasters!

    Day 18 Italy – FD
Have got to midday no problem, but now I could just eat a little something. I shall have a cup of tea and see how I go on. Hope I can get past dangerous o’ clock.
    Everybody sounds very upbeat today…yay!

Day 18 / Tweed Coast Australia / FD

Fast day almost over since it is nearly bedtime. Went well, even though hungrier than usual due to lack of sleep.

    Day 18, Australia NFD

Wow some great losses happening. Fantastic work. Very inspiring.

B2tf thanks for sharing a bit of your story, you have done so well since April, what a change to your life really. Great job.

    Gozo, Malta

    2nd post

Back2thefuture congratulations on reaching your healthy BMI range. That’s truly one successful story!

    Day 18|NFD|Toronto
83.5 kg this am after FD yesterday. Spectacular late Fall weather yesterday motivated me to do a 5-6 kilometer urban walk in the am. Still contemplating a third FD tomorrow to make this a 4:3 week.

    Day 18…. Florida…. FD

I realized this morning, I forget to post yesterday, my apologies!

Yesterday was a NFD, that were sideways….. I feeling the pain this morning.
I had to take the boys to the airport, they had to be there by 4am for a 6 am flight. We’re a hour away from the airport, so, we left by 3am. Getting up that early my body clock made me hungry by 6 am. Then it was all downhill from there…. Thank goodness, today is FD. I’m really beginning not to like or even enjoy NFD.

It’s so odd not having my husband and my youngest around, it’s so quiet! I didn’t realize that with no one to turn lights, or television on, how dark the house gets. How little dishes there in the sink to be washed, or how much work it takes to take care of the animals, the garden and the garbage.
I forgot to put the garbage out at the curb, until I heard the truck. Watered the garden in my night clothes because I realized at 9:30, I didn’t do it. The dog had me up at 4:30 because I didn’t take him out before hitting the sack.
Oh my how, I appreciate the little things they do, to keep this home afloat.
So, I’ve devised a plan…. I set 5 alarms on my phone with corresponding notes.
6pm turn on lights and tv…. I don’t watch TV maybe the sound will help!
    7pm water the garden
8 am and 10 pm… take dog out for work and before
Sunday at 9pm take garage to curb for Mon pick up.
I’m sure I’ll be adding to this….. lol
Well…. must be off work today
    Have a great day!

UK day 18 NFD today managed yesterday ,now need to get my head round being “good” over the weekend , it’s just getting the balance right I’m struggling with , I’ve done it in the past so no excuses , so back to basics eat well have a few glasses of wine but not go crazy – simple right ?

    Georgia/USA/Day18/NFD:

It’s Friday !! YAY! I have lots of plans this weekend with my significant other. A Wedding Reception Saturday and a pre-Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. Gonna try my best to hold it together. My next fast day isn’t until Monday. I noticed lately that I have been quite indulgent on my days off. I’m trying to curb those impulses. This weekend will be a good test for nest week’s Thanksgiving holiday. I don’t usually go in too hard on the holidays, but this year I feel like I have a lot to prove to myself.

    Day 18 USA Hawaii NFD

Day 18 West Oz second post NFD
My new mantra is ‘ Food is NOT a reward for fasting!!’
Have the munchies today and having to try very hard not to overeat my TDEE.🙄

Day 18, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Non-Fasting

    Going great !

    Day 18 – Canada- NFD

lilymartin – You are so right – “food is not a reward for fasting” – in fact, it shouldn’t be a reward for anything. We must try harder.

Have a good day everyone. Sun is shining here and it’s supposed to be a warm day.

    Day 18 USA (Illinois)

NFD today – just had a good breakfast following yesterday’s successful FD. Very glad I am holding my target weight.

lilymartin – I like that mantra – good to remember

LindaSue – glad your Thanksgiving Dinner at McD’s wasn’t worse! I do enjoy that little ice cream cone they sell when I need a fairly low calorie sweet treat.

Bert1802 – it’s amazing how dark things are getting up here in Illinois too. We’ve had a gorgeous fall, very warm, but cold is on its way today. Enjoy your quiet!

    London | Day 18 | NFD post 36h fast

A Quick check-in. Sorry will do a catch up post later. Hope my other fellow fasters did ok.
Broke fast around 10am – so ~38hrs fasted. Feeling fine. Could have fasted for longer, but I’m donating blood later this evening, so want to make sure I’m fit for that. Drinking lots of water to keep my self hydrated etc.

Checked weight 65kg – Only 0.1kg down from my previous 36h fast. But, hey I’m OK with slow as long as it’s steady.

Missing exercise big time! Starting the 30-day yoga challenge this weekend.

    Good luck all.

Day18 I’ve hit a wall been doing great on my FD s an then yesterday I had a nfd had a complete blowout an now my FD today is not going as well as normal

    Day 18. Sussex U.K.
    NFD
Slipped up yesterday evening, after 3 excellent days. Over by about 400 on my TDEE. Something spiked the insulin. I think maybe butternut squash soup. Then dried apricots etc. Otherwise ok and weigh in this am was 12.10.
Bttf – congratulations you must be over the moon. Healthy bmi. Great

    2nd post
This fast is hard going! but still on it really hope to see it through liquids only! We’ll see if my ger gets worse I may cave later!!
    Better have some bone broth.
    Trying to stay strong!

Hi all UK day 18 fd

My fast from last night has gone better than previous attempt, nothing but water and coffee so far and lots of trips to the loo. The plan for tonight was to visit friends before they head to Oz for 6 months and we would bring a Chinese take away with us. However as last night I failed to prepare, I have ordered a small prawn noodle stir fry from a healthy eats place, that I will bring along in place of a Chinese for me. I will also bring one of the mini bottles of wine (one glass size) hopefully I won’t be tempted by any of the crisps and nibbles they are sure to have (I will bring some carrot and celery sticks with maybe an avocado dip just in case)and hopefully will not be tempted by any more wine – may also bring a bottle of fizzy water so I have a backup plan. If I stick to this I could still be within 5oo cals or close to. I really want to make some progress and see another lower number on the scale if not tomorrow then certainly by the end of the month. In order to do that I need to prepare and be prepared to change.

Have a good weekend everyone – enjoy but be mindful and if the worst comes to the worst and you have a ‘screw it’ moment enjoy it but get back on track as soon as you can.

    Day 18 – Staffordshire UK – NFD

    Forgot to post this morning.

2nd post – thought I would also share my plans for holidays next year. As it is going to be a milestone one for me (shhhhh but I’ll be 60) and I have always wanted to see Montana/Rockies and my OH has always wanted to have a train journey – so we thought we would combine both and are looking at the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle stopping at Glacier National Park. Has anyone ever done this? In the early stages of planning. I so want to be at goal by the time we go (possibly June). Certainly something to keep in my mind over the festive season. Feeling excited!

    Day 18 | FD | Bucks UK

    So far, so good…
Hope any Friday fasters are hanging in there too
    😊

Coda you sound well prepared for this evening, sure you can do it!
Planning your trip will be amazing and certainly one I would love to do! Good luck.

Well still on liquids, I’ve cleaned changed bedding and taken tbe dog for 2 long walks, just going to have some bone broth and one more to sup later while OH has his supper! I will also give myself a manicure as I can’t eat while doing that!!

Children in need night so will watch that and cry as usual! Have donated and OH also. Will get an early night if I start to get tempted!

Good luck all! Onwards and Down!

    Day 18 Portugal FD

So yesterday’s FD went really well, under 500cal, I would say, as I just had a salad for dinner. Today’s FD is going ok. I have nibbled a little – a few nuts-, so need to be extra careful about what I eat for dinner. Hoping these two FDs will cancel out the negative effects of over eating during the early part of the week.

    Have a great w/e everyone.

    Day 18 – London, UK – FD

My good week has carried on after the busy-ness of w/e and early week. I have dinner out tomorrow evening and Sunday evening, was thinking of trying 24hr fasts between evening meals, anyone tried that before? I was thinking on ending FD with dinner this evening which would be 24hrs, then the same tomorrow and Sunday. Thought it might be a reasonable way to deal with dinners out. Will keep you posted how it all goes. Weigh day today and v happy with 3kgs off, since 1st Nov., and clothes feeling looser!

    @coda – sounds like a great trip you’re planning!

b2tf – amazing to get you BMI down that amount since April

Ciren2 – major achievement too, well done, especially when you’ve been carrying that extra weight for 38 years, must feel amazing!!

It’s so interesting reading everyone’s successes and also the struggles we all go through at various times. Thanks you all…..”if you can’t be good, be careful”, as my Granny always said!!

Day 18: Gloucestershire, UK: It WAS supposed to be a fast day…ha..ha!
I came home from work and, well, just didn’t feel in the mood to stay hungry any longer. I went from porridge at 6am and nothing but water til’ about 2.30pm. Then ate..
Came home to an upset husband.
His brother’s wife has walked out on him after over 40 years of marriage, AND his sister has (probably terminal) lung cancer.
    Sad times.

    Day 18 – 2nd post for today

Fluids only FD going OK – have just been catching up with the posts to keep me in check!

Well done on the impressive weight loss @ Helsbelsjoe @sarah57 @back2thefuture
@Illymartin – what a great attitude and also love your quote for today
@patti67 – my sympathies regarding your slight setback – I did exactly the same yesterday evening but have got back on the horse as they say with a low calorie fluid only FD today – hope we both succeed
@coda – hope your plans for the evening work – great job in thinking and planning ahead
@ciren2 – what sad news for you to come home to – my thoughts are with you and your husband but great news regarding being back at your goal weight

I’m hoping to stay strong and carry on this fluid only 36hr FD – started at 2300hrs yesterday and not planning on breaking my fast until 1100hrs tomorrow

Well done to all and positive vibes to those who are struggling – we will get there

    Good night

    Day 18 – FD, London

My 2nd fast for this week, struggled a bit and had to eat my 500 kcal as soon as I got home which was unusual. Think it’s time for a film and a hot bath as very tired and maybe an early night.

Hope everyone else had a good day!

@alanix 24hrs is what I have been doing. Started wed evening after evening meal, had small meal Thursday but could have done better and again nothing until this evening. I was however so cold I had a bowl of bone broth when I got home to warm me up. Hope I keep to my plans.

@Ciren so sorry to hear of the upsets in the family. Difficult times ahead – stay strong as you will face them better if you stay in control of things you do have control over. Hugs

    Day 18 E. Canada FD

First: Ciren2, that is a lot of bad news to absorb at once for your spouse, I am sorry.

Fuvvie – Forgot to say this earlier: I am glad for your sake that your carer role is about to be modified. Basically by your MIL’s going to a care home, you are getting the help you needed before. Do not feel badly, there are still plenty of things you can do to help her, you just won’t be doing all the ‘heavy lifting.’

For the rest – I wish you all onward and downward.

Okay, back2tf, I am not going to be late reporting for my weigh-in day. I’m going to say 126.5, same as last week – I think I have plateau’d for a bit. The scales as of mid-afternoon read 125.5, but yesterday they read all over the place again – 127, 128.5, 125.5. So today I checked with the ‘medical’ scales at the pool, which say 125.5. But some of that might be water weight loss, so that’s why I’m saying 126.5. This is the dilemma about accuracy – there is always going to be a range, depending on various factors.

So far today: breakfast 180, 1/2 banana 50, caffe latte 130, st 360. Now, I have been snacking a bit on sliced chicken and a dab or two of peanut butter. Yes, I know, snacking is to be avoided, but at least it’s protein. But I think that has put me to a subtotal (st) of 440.

What I’ve done right: I went for a swim (yay me! because today is a yay day) and did laps for at least 25 mins. Couldn’t cycle today (it’s pouring.) Also yay for meI’ve resisted thus far buying anything like a cookie, etc. (On a FD, that is going to be my minimum – no refined sugar.)

Now, how to keep focused so that I don’t blow the fast day. Think positive. Remember that I’m trying to give my body a rest. I can do this, at least this week. Keep going!

    Day 18– Colorado, USA- NFD

No change in weight from last week, but that makes sense because I ended up with 6:1 instead of 5:2. Next week will be much better, for sure. Back to 5:2 and carefully counting calories on my Lose It app.

    D19. Melbourne Australia, NFD
Finished 48hr fast yesterday evening. I’m very surprised how easy it was. No big hunger pangs. Also surprised how my stomach has shrunk. Results are less than earlier longer fasts but I suspect I don’t have any carb stores now and therefore no water loss when I fast. Still all moving in the right direction.
    Happy weekend all.

US SC Day 18 NFD. Was supposed to be a fast day but caved around 2 pm. Don’t know why. I will do one tomorrow instead.

Ciren2 my thoughts and prayers are for your husband s family. It’s a sad time for you especially for your husband

    Day 19 Melbourne NFD
Slipped a bit last night, probably over TDEE but not a blowout. Now just have to stay strong over the weekend.
Best of wishes to you all, for happy weekend eating or fasting.

    Day 18 WA USA NFD

Did well on my FD yesterday but was quite cold by the time I ate about 6 PM having been on liquids all day. I think others have also posted about getting cold on FDs.

Coda – I’ve lived throughout the west of Canada & the USA. Your train trip sounds like a great idea. The Montana skies and Rockies are breathtaking. I’ve done Glacier Park on a motorcycle – another gorgeous area. I’ve taken the train recently from Vancouver, WA to Seattle and enjoyed that but not gone on the train for a long trip as you describe.

Ciren2 – sorry to hear about the tough times in you husband’s family. Will be praying.

    Day 18…. Florida….FD

I missed a day, so it’s taking me some time to reply to those who mentioned me… Sorry!
Song bird…… I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s getting eerily dark lately, I’m over day light saving thing the states practice.

FD went well today…. didn’t get enough water in but still pushing forward.
Quick question…. maybe a bit to much info but here it goes.
Lately, I’ve been noticing that my belly is a bit up set after a NFD, but is fine after a FD. It’s been happening all week. I fast MWF so Tu and Thur. days my belly is quiet as a church mouse but M,W, F Sat. And Sun mornings I wake up sick to my stomach. I’m thinking, it’s something, I eat on my NFD that has got me. But I’m not eating anything that I haven’t eaten before. Anyone else have this?

    Day 18; Toronto; NFD

I’m having a rough time sticking to 500 calories on Fasting Days. I’ve tried different things. The worst is just eating breakfast and then nothing for the rest of the day, impossible for me. So now I skip breakfast and lunch, other than eating 1/2 banana and 2 cups of vegetable broth. Then I eat dinner. Keep it light, mostly vegetables, beans (I’m vegan), maybe 1/2 cup of rice. Okay great. Wrong. About 2 hours later I am desperate to eat more, it’s like my body is screaming at me – where the hell are the other 1200 calories I’m supposed to have?!!

    Help!

    Day 19 FD West Oz
EEEkkkk!!! Doing a 16:8 today. Have visitors all weekend. But yesterday was not near my computer so did the usual guesstimating for my TDEE. When I arrived home last night plugged in the figures and was not happy to see that I was 700 calories over my TDEE. Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast ( no butter cream or milk in eggs) with 1/2 medium cooked tomato, 1/2 orange, 1/2 pear. Slice of toast with 1 tbsp jam ( usually don’t eat toast or jam but staying with friends…)
Lunch was a small white ( no choice ) turkey ,sprout and tomato roll/bun, no dressing.
Dinner : 2 small pieces shaved ham – less than 1 oz – 1 small tomato, 2 olives, 1/4 avocado, 1/4 cup homemade tomato sauce, 1/2 cup broccoli with a smidge of feta( 1 cm x 1 cm cube) eaten on a bread and butter ( side) plate to control portion size, 1 slice multigrain bread.
Snack : 8 cashews ( counted), 1 cup popcorn – no salt or butter, just popcorn, 2 small 15 gm chocolate frogs.
Normally I wouldn’t have eaten all that bread . I often don’t have any bread in a day. Have not eaten jam for years! Would not normally eat the snacks but it has shown me why I need to keep on track with the calorie counting for a while longer!! If I overeat by 700 calories on my NFDs daily x 7 = 4900 calories extra per week it is no wonder that my scales are sometimes not heading in the right direction!
Adding my Congratulations to Bttf, sarah57, Helbelsjoe for their successes – well done!
Ciren2 – thoughts and prayers with your family at this awful time. Stay strong, lots of worldwide friends thinking of you.
judytoronto – re hunger pangs, I find I drink lots of glasses of water, sometimes 2 or 3 in a row or have a cup of black tea or hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice. Sometimes a coffee with a little milk can take the edge off your appetite. A fairly low calorie snack is popcorn with NOTHING added but I do measure it to make sure I don’t eat too much. I also chew sugarless gum if all else fails. Apparently it is good for removing plaque too so winning on all fronts! Good luck
Happy weekend to you all. Again, thanks for your support by posts.

    Day 18, NY, FD

    I forgot to post yesterday!

I went to a friendsgiving dinner and went a it 300 calories over my TDEE.

Had a FD today and actually didn’t eat all day until my evening meal. Usually have a late lunch and light dinner. 85 felt luxurious to be able to have a larger evening meal… on a FD.

I don’t understand it though I am literally losing just half a lb if that… my weight is just staying stable. It’s annoying… I guess having gone over my TDEE is the reason?

    Nov 18 / FD / NC, USA

Today I drove 7 hours home to my boyfriends house first for him to exclaim, “You look skinny!!” What a great feeling. Today was pretty easy not to eat because I had 2 appointments and had to drive home the rest of the day. I did have some a few tortilla chips and guac a minute ago because I haven’t eaten and I’m ravenous (some emergency stuff came up and I am watching a baby). Trying to decide if I should have a PB sandwich and call it a day since we haven’t gotten groceries yet. Anyway, here’s my check in! NFD tomorrow. Going to try really hard not to butcher this week since I’m home. Good luck everyone, I know I need it!

    judytoronto:

When I first started the 5:2 WOL, I would have a small breakfast on fast days. However, I eventually found that it was far easier to have nothing except for a cup of tea or two with a dash of milk during the day, lots of water, and I mean lots, and then have a 400 (approx) calorie dinner around 6:30-7pm. I always feel so hungry after eating carbs and then head back for more, especially bread or rice. So, I really try to avoid bread, rice and pasta most of the time. I find a big salad at suppertime with some added protein is really filling, or lots of steamed vegetables. I do find it easier to eat nothing during the day until the evening – just keep busy.

Oh, and another thing I’ve been doing: every morning I have two teaspoons of psyllium mixed in a tall glass of water. Helps to fill you up and provides lots of fibre but be sure to drink lots of water during the day too.

Day 18: Pacific NW USA, Friday FD going well, however, smelling the seafood OH is cooking. Since it’s my FD he’s decided to splurge for himself and since he doesn’t have to forgo the carbs he’s doing a panko breaded fish and oyster fry. Oh my, he’s grating fresh horseradish and making tartar sauce. (I’m casually peeking in the kitchen.) But you know, I’m equally satisfied by thoughts of what I can eat tomorrow.

About tomorrow, Saturday, I was reminded by my doctor’s office, I’m suppose to have my annual blood draw so fasting will continue a few more hours than I had planned. But it will be exciting to see what changes 5:2 hath wrought!

Coda – so excited for your potential roll right over our continental divide! My OH has taken that very trip multiple times. He loves it, the park, the scenery and actually all trains. He recommends getting a sleeper. Do you think you might pause any time in Seattle?

Happy – so you learned you can maintain with 6:1, that’s a win!

Ciren – so sorry for you and your hubby’s emotional roller derby right now. That must feel worse than an elbow in the ribs.

judy – could you try replacing the more simple carbs with vegan protein and fats to see if the cravings would abate? I’m not an expert on vegan food RDA’s and I am an omnivore myself but I do know rice, bread, potatoes, wheat and any sweet fruit definitely give me insatiable cravings.

Bert – ouch, tummy troubles. Are you drinking enough water and getting enough fiber (standard issue questions)? Do you think you might have uncovered some heretofore unknown food sensitivities?

Thanks everyone for the recognition on my new found healthy BMI range. 5:2 is a WOL where you really can set long term goals and acheive them!!!

Lily – I agree, a NFD is not a reward for a FD and neither is it a “stock up” day prior to a FD! The real trick with this WOL is finding your balance. Actually not a trick, it’s zeroing in as you figure out what works to keep you steady or doesn’t work and sends you on your rump instead!

Wellrounded – we saw all 3 of your posts even though it sounds like you couldn’t???

    Day 19 | Derbyshire UK | NFD

    Day 19 – Staffordshire UK – NFD

Reid – looks like you were replying to Judy while I was writing something very similar – funny!
