  • Hi CG, thanks for the warm welcome :-). Yes, I’ve done the BMR and TDEE calculations and I think I’ll write them down and tape them to my fridge so I’m reminded! I think Monday and Wednesday will be my regular days, with Thursday as a back up in case one day doesn’t go as planned.
Looking forward to getting and receiving support to keep on track πŸ™‚

    Evening all,
Today have again I have made some healthy choices, which I am pleased with. Tomorrow evening I am trying zucchini spaghetti with bolognaise as kid will want pasta and that is some thing I am trying to reduce.

Having a bit of a busy week, work wise – lunches , after school meetings – new term , so I am going to have to fast Sunday. This still fits in with the 7 days then fit in another 2 FD next week.

I probably have to avoid lunches at work.

Go girl, I understand your loss, my father passed just over 2 years ago at 67 years of age. The grief passes, but you will have great memories, I remind my kids of grand dad and what he may have thought of their achievements, and we do continue to talk about him, remember, laugh and cry. I was just talking to my sibling about how happy dad would have been with the Hawthorn victory.

Well this week is going well. Talk tomorrow. Change

Well folks you’ve made my job hard! So many wonderful posts to reply to so….I will assure you that I’ve read them all but cannot possibly reply. I reckon you miss just one day around here & you’re done for!! GG sending lots of {{{ }}} your way for when heyou need them. If you need them today then use them otherwise save for another day when the blues hit. CG why not give yourself a breather in the middle of all your activity – say make one day a Go the the pool day then come home and just relax? Or make Tues & Thurs your days off or similar. You are doing unbelievably well & we don’t want to see you fall in a heap. We’d be lost without you!!

Had 2 lovely days away. Spent the last 2 hours of our trip sharing with each other about our daughter & grandkids. No great solutions but it was good to let each other know how we’re coping or not coping as the case was today – GG a bit like you it just reared itself up out of nowhere & swamped me. So we’ve cleared the air for another while & agreed that we simply have to wait. And just remember GG the more special/precious the relationship the harder the grief process. So yours was truly special & that’s very precious in its own right & something to hold on to tightly and treasure don’t forget that.

Well as you can imagine I haven’t fasted today & had a few treats. So tomorrow is a FD. Have house guests arriving for 3 days tomorrow (from our Alice Springs days) so fasting again will be difficult – would have loved to do a 3rd one. Never mind I’ll just have to put my dreams of hitting the 60’s on hold till next week.

CG you brought back memories of my nana. She lived near Swan Hill Vic on a dried fruit farm. We used to help our uncle spread out the grapes for raisins and apricots to dry on the racks. Nana had one cow and would make butter with the old butter pats & cream of course. We would get yabbies from the little dam & shimmy up the trees to pick almonds/walnuts at Christmas time. Nana almost always wore an apron – all day as far as I remember…guess she was always doing something! Then we’d help pick peas or beans or tomatoes or flowers from the gardens. There was 4 of us kids & we all fitted somehow! in a little Morris Minor car. One year going up there for Christmas we hit some floods & water flooded the car. Dad opened the doors to let the water out & our potty floated away. Some nice policemen caught up with us & embarrassed Mum by tapping on the door & saying Is this yours maam?! LOL guess it was my potty seeing I was the baby of the family! But then my brother was only a year & 2 days older so could have been for both. Mum had 4 of us in 4 years after the war. Byee all suejen XXXX

Welcome Sunshiney, you will probably be referred to as SS from now on by the group. One tip for fast days is to make sure you have enough protien, eggs are good.

Hi gang. Just going to bed after watching the Paul Hogan Special. Belly laughed right through it with OH and SIL. Successful fast day. Very pleased with myself.. Wayyyyy passed my bedtime. Off to the land of nod..???????

Good morning team, great sleep, in bed by 9:30 and the birds woke me just on 6:00 so a good solid sleep. Having my coffee assessing the aches and deciding if the pool is a go, although it will fit well with the massage to follow.
Sunny your attitude is really going to help you as well as you Change. You will find you see food differently you shop differently and try to start using smaller plates, because your portion size needs control and out of habit we do tend to fill our plates or bowl. You do think twice before having foods you KNOW are junk and when the results stat showing on the scales this way of life/eating becomes addictive ? So you can still have a couple of wines or that piece of cake, but they become treats rather than the norm
Suejen, it’s lovely to clear the air when a situation is hanging heavy with a spouse. Picking the right time to bring it up isn’t always easy, but being away from home feeling good, can help. I hope you can both get past it all and move on, things will resolve themselves in due course.
How did everyones fast go? I “think” I was okay, even with the bikkies I had, but will weigh in later, tongue in cheek, and hope for the best, but next week will always be there, so wont spoil my week end by not enjoying my few treats ☺️
Have a happy day team, no matter what life offers you, it does beat the alternative and it is a beautiful world to be part of. We can all look back to situations when we thought we would never cope, but hay, here we are on the other side and we got through. ? xxxxxxxx

Good morning everyone. Tired after my late night but it was worth it..???
Change. I to am having zuchini spaghetti tonight. Made a big batch of my special spaghetti loaded with grated carrot and zuchini to make the meat content less and so then many less calories in the sauce. Then serve mine , and
Anyone else who would like it , over zuchini spaghetti and others over pasta. We are having a big extended family dinner and so suits everyone. Yummy…???
You sound like you have a busy life with work, kids etc. you will find lots of ways to make meals suit everyone. Mashed cauliflower instead of white potato is another good one. I mash my caull and sweet potato together with a sprinkle of herbs and it tastes great.. How old are the kids? Would be lovely to roll back the clock and relive that part of my life. Enjoy every minute of your precious family.

Doorbell so must go. Talk to the rest of you later??

How much weight do you lose on a fast day ?

I weigh myself every morning and find after a fast day I have usually lost over 1 kg.
It builds up a bit over the next few days but obviously the goal is not put it all back on before the next fast day.

CG, I hope you’re right about seeing things like cake as a treat, not the norm! I think it’s sweet things that are usually my downfall.

I’ve got a busy morning ahead, which I hope will help me get through my first fast day. I hope you don’t mind if I record my starting measurements here to help keep me accountable?

    Weight: 100.3kg
    Bust: 111cm
    Underbust: 93.5cm
    Waist: 96cm
    Bellybutton: 106cm
    Hips: 120cm

So it’s pretty clear that my lovely hourglass from when I was slim has blown out into a not so lovely stout pear shape! I hope to whittle down my waist and hips, in particular.
According to the calculation on this forum, I currently have a BMR of 1690c, and a TDEE of 2323c.

Ok, off to get ready for work. Fingers crossed for success today!

Sunshiney, welcome. I am in Brisbane. No sun today though! You can do this. The first week may be a challenge but if you can stick with it, you will never look back!
Today is my 59th birthday and I look so much better than I did last birthday and I feel great. I have lost 11 and a half kilos since November and just have a few to go.

Fit, I am a tad up this week due to no fasts. These days I only weigh on Friday mornings and am therefore emptier after fasting etc. So I know my few hundred grams isn’t actual fat. It is just yesterday’s bread! But next week!

Parley, I used to weigh daily early on and found it helpful despite all the advice not to. I did like to see what was happening but decided to cut back to after each fast day. I always lost about 500grams a week. Now, I only weigh in on Friday mornings and it is a while since I have lost that much in a week but that is totally because I am socialising too much, or at least socialising in the wrong way!

Anyway, I now don’t want to know what the scales say on NF days. I am only interested in the number after the 2 days are up as fluctuations can be demoralising and mostly dependant on water weight, I think.

Greetings all. Welcome Sunshiney. Yep I think we are going to call you SS. No nasty Nazi connotations though.
Up I also have an iPad so the emoticons are easy to use. I’ve a laptop too but don’t think they are there.
Well yesterday was my first FD for almost two months. It went off surprisingly easy. Weigh day the first time in two months as well and I’ve gained just a tad short of two kilos. Measurements are up too. I’m not at all surprised as I comforted myslef with food. I had another slightly longer walk with Pepper today so things are looking up. Does anyone listen to ” Conversations with Richard Fidler”. He’s on the ABC at 11 am on weekdays. Yesterday was most interesting. It was with a 50 year old woman from Hobart who became anorexic. We always associate this with young females but it’s not always the case. Not that I think that any of us are in danger of it but she did start out by trying to lose weight. By the way one can download this as a Podcast. I do so and can then listen to them at my leisure.
    No more now. Chores beckon.
    Enjoy TGIF.
    XX Doggy ??

Doggy. ThAt is great. If all you have put on is just a tad short of two kgs…after all that sickness. What a gal..I too love Richard Fidler and conversations. My fav program..

Parley , I too would imagine that the difference between FD and NFD is fluid. I only weigh on the day after FD for that reason. Too much fluctuation.

Can’t weigh this week as I do not have any scales handy. Will weigh for two weeks next Friday and hopefully get 2 FD,s in next week..

SJ. I agree you miss one day and you have lots of reading to catch up on. Very hard then they respond to all the posts but as long as we keep reading them and posting encouragement , especially to the newbeys, that should be all that matters.
Funny that I do not consider myself a new era aNymore after only just 6 weeks..
    What a great group…???????

Good luck for today everyone. Especially to Change…CH , and SS. It is Friday and anxiously waiting SIL results. Once we get them hopefully will do some celebrating???????

    Blasted auto correct!!???

Sunshiney, I’m going to call you Sunny! I will list my progress for you to try to inspire you
    Started 5:2 at 94:5k
    Bust; 120.0
    Waist: 116.1
    Hips: 116.1
    Neck: 39.9
    THEN THIS MORNING
    Weight 75.1k
    Bust: 104
    Waist: 94
    Hips 100
    Neck: 33
So big losses over all, as far as when to weigh, I still weigh daily, I can fluctuate between 75k and 78k, now sure, I become crest fallen, but between fasts it does make me toe the line a bit with PC ( portion control) as well as treats. It’s natural to have that odd urge to raid the bikkie barrel or hoe into chocolate, the system seems to scream for it, mine does, I can eat a whole block of triple cream Brie cheese, my biggest downfall! But if the scales are way up, it brings me back to reality! The choice is yours, once a week or daily, but 4 months before starting 5:2 I was 99:5k and started counting cals with My Fitness Pal which was a daily weigh for me to keep track, and just kept the habit going ? Now I still probably have more to lose, but I’m comfortable in size 14. Shorts or 3/4 pants, I don’t cringe when I see my reflection in a shop window, and I feel very healthy, now physically too since my back surgery. Because this has all happened in just over 12 months, I still expect the big girl I was in my reflection, I still reach for the large size in clothes, this morning I bought some new shorts and didn’t have to go to the big girl section ? so it will happen for you, and enjoy this journey, you learn so much bit by bit about food, also how to know when your hungry or just picking, your body teaches you that a carrot straw with dip is just as nice as a cracker! I hope this helps you and Change hang in there because times may get hard, but they do pass, and that’s especially when you need us for support. I don’t intend to ever go back to being skinny, I’m too old to carry that, my skin would just hang, but if I drop one more size so be it, but I’m in no rush, and very contented these days (although I do have a contented nature)
Well morning went well, enjoyed the pool and ohhhhh the Myotherepy was wonderful, she know just how to iron out my kinks. So will go back for monthly “iron outs” unless I need it earlier, but it’s not cheap, so monthly will be good.
So happy day team, enjoy your PC day, those treats are available to you now ☺️ so enjoy them, but remember to have a small piece, (not the whole block like I do) or better still, don’t have things in the cupboard you can’t stay away from! Love and best wishes to you all….. Good news Doggy, your on the mend…xxxxxxx

Hi all, last post today as went shopping for the food. That being weekend food. OH does not move from the lounge very often on the BATHURST V8 MOTOR RACE weekend . No one dares to ring of come visit. due to this race each year.
Todays weigh in for me was bad….. 75kgs. I have put on 3kgs in 2 weeks due to the fact I have not been taking consideration with my food choices …so hence I pay the price! Will be more caring next week.
I had a restless night last night… not sleeping…. so had a long nap from 1pm to 5pm….obviously needed it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY UP have a wonderful time and congrats on looking beautiful for your day with the new you.
DOGGY- good news that you are feeling so much better
WELCOME SUNNY- good to have you on board. You will see change slowly …enjoy the journey of 5:2.
PH- have a wonderful family evening….the zucchini dish is very delish
    ………GO GALxxxxxxxxx

Hi all, am running late today, had a power outage here most of the day. Bloody wind! Only read yesterdays posts so far(before power cut), but will get to it.

Fit, just want to say thanks for the kind words, praise indeed from a second generation school principal. I really felt your closeness to your dad in your family history stories, can you imagine the impact of your’s and your father’s influence on the hundreds of students who passed through your hands? Teachers leave a legacy that goes far beyond their own time. You should all be proud of that. And I think there’s a lot of daddy’s girls on this thread.

I’ll drink to that! Have been bottling my wares and since I have no recipe for certain request challenges, tasting as I go. Interesting….there appear to be drunk ants everywhere, must be the honey! I found a local with a hive, CG (must have organic !) So I’m making a honey bourbon liqueur. It involves dropping a chunk of honeycomb, loaded with honey, into spirit already aged on wood,(I transferred it to a glass barrel. We’ll see what turns out after a few months further aging. might take your head off! but it sure will be smooooth. Gotta go sort a meal out now we have power. Later xx gyps

Up, how remiss of me HAPPY BIRTHDAY, I hope its been a joyous day with a wonderful evening to follow. The big 6-0 next, golly doesn’t time fly. ?????
GG, you are sounding slightly better, maybe you were sleep deprived, and it’s all been pretty full on for the last few months, please rest up my friend, your mind and body need it. 5:2 can wait even Doggy has only started back and I had time out, so it IS doable and no rush, you are number one, so take care of YOU ??? xxxxx

Mmmm Gyps, sounds like a crash cap will be needed? ? but hay, I’m game if you are ? and thanks for altering your recipe, it will be beautiful. I often chew on the natural honey comb, (don’t know about the one soaking in your barrel?) but not always easy to buy, health food shops can have it sometimes and my Dad used to swear by it for chesty coughs and I just enjoy the natural flavour. Probably a no no on 5:2 but then I love dairy too, just a natural born rule breaker I think ? xxxxx

Happy birthday UP! And isn’t your new body just the best pressie? You were pretty tall and elegant anyway, as I recall. Have a great evening!

And Hello Sunshine! Welcome aboard. It will all work if you just keep at it. And you are a Qld’er? Good show. Hope all goes well for you. Never give up before consulting the mob. they will have a solution for you.

I weighed in at 84.9 this am. It usually goes further down 2 days after fasting, water retention for muscle repair after all that diligent exercise (in old ladies mode anyway) I’m happy with that. It has stopped going back up! Carry on, all, I have a roast chicken and sav reward tonight. xxx Gyps

Ps. Suejen, don’t forget our 5 kilo challenge for Xmas. Glad you and hubby are weathering your offspring’s ups and downs together. That’s the best homefront to present. I call parental solidarity “The manufacturer’s Quarantee!”. What they do ex-factory is not your fault! Cheers all! gyps

Up Happy Birthday. Have a wonderful day.

Doggie I too enjoy the Richard Fidler interviews. Don’t download as a podcast, although I should but have the ABC as my home page on my laptop and can access the program through that when I miss. Haven’t listened since OH has been home and it’s one of the things I will be taking back!

Jumped on my scales (which have been playing up) and they were so shocked they registered a decent weight first time!!! Pretty sure it is a truish weight too as they have chucked out some outlandish amounts previously. So only another couple of k’s to go.

CG reckon I’m just a little old rule breaker too. Ditto dairy products and at the moment have a wonderful vintage cheese block with mixed peppercorns. Just melts in the mouth and I sometimes shave off some and enjoy with a cuppa while OH goes for cakes/biscuits. Not sure who is eating more cals.
TGIF hope everyone has a great weekend. Welcome Sunny and any I have missed.
    YY xx

    Happy birthday to Up πŸ™‚

Yes gyp, I’m a coastal Queenslander. Will be nice to feel confident swimming at the local beaches this summer, for a change.

Wow CG, great seeing your changes in numbers, thanks for sharing them. You started at a similar weight to my current weight and your current weight is similar to my goal weight, so great to see it can be done. May I ask how long it took you, and how soon you saw changes in your measurements after starting?

Oh, and thank you all for the warm welcome! πŸ˜€

    Hi All!
Another pleasant morning here today, if a little cool. I seem to be the exception on the weigh-in front. I always weigh less the day after a FD but then it goes up again the following day or two, so I take my weight two days after fasting as my ‘real’ weight. So, I seem to be yo-yoing all the time now with not much of a downward trend overall. Really have to concentrate on the non-FDs to get some lasting results. I weigh every day to keep myself on track but count just each Wednesday as ‘official’ weight.
UP – congrats and happy birthday! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Of course, I’m a bit late but hope you’ve had a lovely day and that OH suitably spoiled you. I’m sure you’re delighted with your new shape this year on your birthday and I remember how slim and elegant you looked in the photos you posted earlier in the year (especially those fab legs!!). Fantastic loss over the last year, woohoo! I’m the same weight as last week – so, must try harder!!!!
CG – great to hear you enjoyed the massage; that will be a lovely treat to look forward to every month. What a marvellous and inspiring example you are with those amazing stats and the satisfaction of buying nice clothes in the ‘normal’ range is very encouraging for others too.
PH – can’t believe you’ve been here for six weeks already! Very clever to have such an adaptable meal when you’re feeding a gang…everyone’s happy and you don’t ruin your 5:2!
PC – yes, I agree that the plan is to keep the overall losing trend going downwards even with a little yo-yoing in between……just have to stay below TDEE on the NFDs, which is where I fall down! Best of luck!
Sunny – you are making a great start just by being here and well done for posting your stats…..as you can see from CG, this wol (way of life) will bring you lasting success πŸ™‚
Doggy – you’re definitely back in the game! Your gain was not that bad and I’m sure you get rid of it in no time….BRING IT ON!!
GG – hope you have a good weekend and enjoy better sleep, enjoy as many ‘nanny naps’ or ‘power naps’, as I call them, as you like; they will do you good. Take care of yourself xxxx
Gyps – there is a great quotation from an Irish writer that says “A teacher leaves the tracks of his teeth on three generations”……hope mine and my dad’s legacy isn’t quite that violent!! Your home brewing sounds amazing, I bet the gals will all enjoy the fruits of your labours at the reunion…I’ll probably read all about it on the news!!!! πŸ˜‰
YY – glad you’re getting good results from the scales at last; keep up the good work!
SJ – hope you and OH had a good chance to put things in perspective and to realise that you are doing all you can and the ball is in your daughter’s court now…..you can only do what you can do; so get on with doing the things you love and enjoy life as much as possible xxxx
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone and remember PC (portion control and personal care)!

    Hi everyone,
great reading all your blogs, I actually look forward to it, I am not much of a blogger, sorry.
However, reporting in is great for me and helps me commit.
CG wow your results are inspiring. A lady I work with has lost 26 kg on this program and is well over 60 years and looks wonderful.
Today went well, made healthy choices, have made my own museli for at least 3 breakfasts, I know it is carbs but I think it helps. Just 1/2 a cup with youguhut and berries …on NFD,s of course. I can share the recipie if you like. I find it prevents me from grabbing bad old crumpets or toast.
I am going to fit a FD Sunday as ran out of time this remaining week.
Wishing you all the best this weekend, I am off to a party with dreaded finger food, but I have put in a good effort this weekend.
    87ks 157 cm.
    ciao CC

Oh dear Change, I’m 65 at Xmas, so age is no issue with 5:2, and I’m the average with some older and some younger, and we all manage well.
Sunny, if you go back to the first few pages, at the top of our thread (we are 169 now) it tracks my progress, as others, a lot not with us now, but it gives you an idea. I think this Sept, just gone was 12 months, but my weight has been stable since April ☺️ so not really loosing any, through complacency I think, but was not fasting for a few months with being on hospital, so had a bit of zigzag happening, but it’s settled.Fit it doesn’t matter when you weigh, as long as it’s the same day each week I guess, to give you a reading to log.
Have a lovely week end team, hope to see you logging on then too, but if life gets in the way we will all understand ☺️ xxxxxxxx

Hello all, I just started 5:2 yesterday. Aiming for health benefits more than weight loss, but losing about 5kg would be great! Has anyone had issues with fatigue on the day after a fast? Have just skimmed over the last few posts & seems like a fantastic community you have going. πŸ™‚

Hi EmT and welcome! I agree that the health benefits from 5:2 are something to aim for and weight loss is an added bonus. I found myself a bit tired or cold on some fast days but not the day after. However, I think others have experienced some fatigue like you. I think the more you get used to it, the easier it becomes. Eating plenty protein and less carbs is a good idea for both fast days and non-fast days, as it gives you energy for longer, so you could try that. Best of luck!

Happy happy birthday Up & welcome Sunshine & EmT…good to have you here. I’m enjoying the company of old friends from Alice Springs days so fasted for brekky & lunch only. Had my yummy mustard & maple chicken for dinner & apple crumble. We haven’t seen them for years …that’s my excuse. They will be with us for 3 days so won’t fit another fast in over the weekend either. Never mind tis lovely to see them. On the plus side they don’t drink so no alcohol was consumed by us!

Have a great weekend all. May not post again until Sunday we shall see how busy we are. Will try to be good some of the time I promise! suejen XXXX

GG hope there’s some sunshine peeping through the clouds for you today. CG lovely that you were able to get another massage & that they are so good for you. Excellent decision that you’re going to get one regularly…..well I believe that the massage makes the decision for you if it’s a jolly good one!

Hi SJ! – not used to seeing you post at this time! Have fun with your guests, I’m sure it will be lovely to reminisce and catch up with each other’s news. 5:2 will wait for you, so enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you here again on Monday πŸ™‚

Hi all, thanks for the birthday wishes! Gypsy, I aim for elegant but can’t do much about height. I think I am average, 165 or 5’5″. At least that is average for our generation. Seems to be a lot of tall girls with big feet these days!

I was pretty good yesterday, all things considered, but haven’t seen my kids yet so more to come!

Welcome, Em, and Change, I am glad you find this forum useful even if you aren’t a poster!
    Have a good weekend all!

Good morning team, gee, I slept in and would still be there if my boys hadn’t woken me. Very muggy already, 27 top and thunder storms. Ohhh I love a good storm, but the fire hazard is a worry due to lightening strikes. Welcome to you EmT, and to all our newbies. The week end can be a testing ground for you. Portion Control is your big key, and stick with in your TDEE, it’s easy to go over with out knowing. Most of our team enjoy a wine or whatever, and when socalising so easy to down a few, but it’s empty cals and easy to lose track of ? I too enjoy a whiskey, but by no means a big drinker (well any more) even when GG and I met up, we were very good…..considering, even with the yummy cocktails at happy hour, but then all the food helped absorb what we drank ?
Have a lovely day team, I hope you get to be with friends or family, don’t envy you GG with Bathurst, been there, done that! My Mum used to love it too, but that’s no surprise, the dear ol’ lead foot! I think Lazy is the title of my day, general tidy up, salads are the fare, and mayb a movie or two after some watering. Golly, don’t I sound old(ish) ? but it’s surprising how a hot shower alters my plans when the aches are gone, mmmm ☺️ xxxxxxxx

Hello team. Welcome em T – what. good name. I’m sitting here spitting chips or just plain bloody annoyed as my knee is plying up again. I had to abort my early morning walk as it was too painful. I had a session with the ice pack and will have another go later on. Well my day went smoothly yesterday until I hopped into the odd glass of wine before dinner. Then I felt peckish so had some salty biscuits. And then some more ! I don’t usually buy them for myself but hubby (skinny as a greyhound) likes to munch on them. I will just have to be more self disciplined. This is the last weekend before the kids go back to school. I’m so looking forward to it as our usually quiet little community is hopping with holiday makers and their dogs. They all seem to set up a competition to see who can bark the most. No wonder I’m hopping into the wine.
    Enjoy your day all.

Doggy all very understandable, weather is a big factor in our aches too, especially humidity or the cold…..it’s our bloody age when it all boils down, I couldn’t exist without my anti inflammatory or panadine! Off the forte, made me groggy, and trying to just use paracetamol only but need the codeine when times are tough! Hang in there, the day has only just started…daylight savings, maybe walk later ? xxxx

Morning all our guests haven’t appeared yet so I have a little window of opportunity to post. They’ve been on the road in a caravan for 4 months up through Central Australia & then all around the west coast to here. Campers from way back. Had a lovely long dinner last night. But I’d have to say that there are BIG advantages to socialising and not drinking(not suggesting I’ll do it though!). Usually I would have served nibbles before dinner cos you need something with your glass of wine or whatever. And then after dinner as we know the alcohol increases your appetite, but last night was perfectly content to just have dinner & that’s it. So they are helping me to stay pretty well with PC days…..can’t ask for better guests than that eh? But when they’ve left I bet I’ll have a glass or 2.
Planning a few walks or sightseeing drives today & tomorrow & a lunch at one of our favourite olive grove cafes.
    Doggie you’re in a bit of a recovery spiral aren’t you. Your body did so little for so long that now when you push the boundaries it objects & says Hold on….don’t like this. It’s partly an age thing (sorry) but also it’s a part of the 2 steps forward/1 step back process of getting over an illness. So hang in there & get ready to take the next 2 steps forward…..then 1 back! Frustrating I know but you’re getting there. {{ }}
CG enjoy your lazy day…sounds delicious.
Fit yes I was late posting last night but went straight to bed afterwards. Had been chatting & hearing the news of old friends all last night. We haven’t been back to Alice Springs for many years but they go back fairly regularly so had all the goss. We had 8 years there together & our kids were all good friends. Now they’re all over the world but they keep touch via facebook with many of them. Some have even made the trip over to California to catch up with our son.
My partial FD led to a gain of .2 so not worried about that – especially after my 2 days away travelling this week. Still in the low 70. somethings so looking good for next week. Have a lovely weekend all. Looking like pretty nice weather here. sj XXXX

EmT I haven’t had issues with fatigue the day after, only on fast days if I push the boundaries too much with exercise. I’d say just make sure you have a good healthy breakfast the day after FD with some protein whether that be eggs, milk, some cheese, nuts or yoghurt. All helps to get you back on track again. If you don’t like breakfast have a protein snack a bit later on.

Happy birthday UP..that is if I haven’t missed it…if I did hope you had a good one. Not keeping track if the days. We got the results for SIL yesterday and looks good. Has to have 5 was radiation but may not have to have chemo. Has to see the oncologist Wednesday next week. We were so pleased with the news had 2 or3 or 4 scotches and then wine with dinner. Lucky the dinner was sensible. Great night though. Having another family b b q lunch, salmon and tossed salad. Just made some all natural chocolate with nuts and cocoa powder and planning on making all natural ice cream from fruit in my ninja .. And maybe one nice white wine. Staying in a beautiful unit overlooking the Broadwater at southport. Heaven really.. Must go. Knock on the door of the unit..

Hi all, Raining here. Nice lazy day. Bloody scales are back up to the 86’s. Hohum, but I’m firming up, so hopefully it’s muscle, not fat! ….sigh… walking is really the best fatbusting exercise, but…. well… it’s raining. Good for the garden, think I’ll just watch it grow for a bit.

Welcome EM T, and yes, I sometimes get tired after a fast day and it can be reversed by a carb/fructose hit. Try a fruit smoothie for a fast zing and a more complex carb, like wholemeal sandwich, for sustained energy. Just be aware that if you are not equally expending that fuel/energy in activity, then the residual will be stored – as fat. It’s a big topic, but here are some basics:

Carbohydrates are the body’s fuel/energy source and a low carb diet can make you tired. Especially in conjunction with High protein, which actually drains energy for it’s own digestion (which is why it aids weight loss) . Protien is the body’s building blocks/healing material and takes much longer to digest, which is why it satisfies for longer, but a big steak dinner will leave you less energetic than a bowl of grapes. (lack of protein over time will also weaken you).

So, FIT, whilst I agree re protein being more filling (and satisfying for longer)have to disagree with it as an energy booster. I also agree that it is a good ploy to do lower carb and higher protein on an everyday basis. But it’s a matter of balancing it to match activity needs. So whilst exercising on low carbs is helpful to weight loss, maybe, over short bursts, it is not helpful for hard yakka, sport endurance or mental concentration (CHo’s also fuel brain function).
Don’t shoot the messenger! I got all this first hand from one of our top ranking footy coaches, Wayne Bennett, (who coached me on health issues for college footy stars back in the day). The rule of thumb was (for athletic competition) Quote: “Feed ’em pasta and potato to go the course, steak to fix the damage later and glucose/sports drinks on the field every 15 minutes to keep them on the ball”…..Unquote.

Hope that helps you Em T. Getting cold on fast days is also an energy issue, but we all put up with that because it would defeat our purpose to gobble food as a warming source. It’s all a matter of getting into a new mindset and tweeking 5:2 guidelines to your own needs. It will make you healthier, That I promise. I have reversed type 2 diabetes and lost 10 kgs (over a year) so far. Luck. xx Gyps

….. Mmmm sipping on a nice, sweeeet honey bourbon liqueur as the rain falls on my tin roof. Most restorative…can’t say it’s increasing my energy levels yet, tho…..mmmm (evil rising..)need some more…What? I gotta do progress tastings, don’t I? And it’s Saturday. Maybe I’ll just try it with some soda water…
    Noooo! It’s better straight! Arroooo!
Shuddup Zelda! ….Get up and get on that treadmill!

“Yeah, yeah,” (snigger from the black side)”Lemme know how that goes for ya’, Dearie…”

So… It’s all about CHANGE…and bein’ EMPTY…. Making hay while the SUN’S’SHINY…. teaching the Eskimos new stuff about snow, if ya’ get the drift.

We try, we stumble( some…hic.. more often than others.. ) but we get up and watch each other’s back. Commiserate over character lapses to do with fridge doors and pantry stashes. And when all else fails, there comes a roll of thunder…(wait for it!) and the boss gives us a serve about unethical topic practices. And we do better!…sigh… so best I get the soda water….so hate to drink alone…. yoohoo! is anybody out there?

PS, Change, hate to bust your bubble, lovey, but you already BLOGGED! Gad, you made me realize that’s about what we’re doing here now (how off topic!) Don’t worry, it’s a developmental thing. It’ll creep up on you as the mob draws you out of hiding. Works. I’ve dropped a lotta weight off my mind! Jeeze, one thinks of this thread as a personal page, hope we are not drawing a wider audience! Best I beehive!…..Oh, well….

See what happens when you leave me unchaperoned? With a blank page! Needs filling…Support! support!.. Oo! not to worry, I made it to the fridge….got the soda…. now where is that chocolate I stashed? Mmm goes nice with honey…….Ooo!(gas rising)…going now.

Hay Gyps, get outta my bourbon! Thought you only liked “the real thing” ….nice aint it? ? xxxxxxxx

Still having a slow time with posting on the computer. So went to see OPTUS today, as apparently so many others have done. OPTUS is upgrading its G3to G4 network and this is the reason the phones and computers in Forster are all but not working effectively. This has been going on for sooooo long.
Last night to keep my happy for the weekend OH took me on a date.We went to a Mexician resturant. The food was delish the Margarita’s even better. On the Bathurst w/e he usually does something nice for me. The big race is tomorrow so I will busy myself doing my favorite thing which is reading. I found a book Dad had given me when I went to Europe , so that will be my comfort tomorrow, between reminding OH to GET OFF THE LOUNGE to eat and visit the bathroom.
have a enjoyable night and a big welcome to EmT……….GO GAL XXXXXX

Hi All!….wherever ye are! Where is everyone…..poor Gypsy wasting her sweetness on the desert air!!!! ( except for the few reliables). Never mind, you get more interesting as Zelda takes over! πŸ™‚ But, leave some bourbon for CG or she’ll kill you! πŸ˜† I bow to your superior wisdom re carbs and protein, Matron πŸ˜‰ – so take heed EmT and I’m sure you’ll feel less tired on FDs.
Change – you are making good choices and will continue to go from strength to strength, keep up the good work!
Up – you don’t just aim for elegant, you are rocking elegant! πŸ™‚
CG – your body obviously took control and said sleep is what’s required, so I’m sure it will do you good. Hope you had a very restful, lazy day xxx
Doggy – don’t get disheartened, you are still making progress and remember how CG had a similar experience….you will get there xxxx
SJ – sounds like you are having the best of times, well deserved and I hope you have a fantastic remainder to your weekend πŸ™‚
PH – so glad to hear that your SIL had some good news and enjoy your precious family times together (( ))
GG – I’ve no idea what a Bathurst weekend is but it sounds like some of the rugby, soccer, snooker, cricket, darts etc etc etc marathons that my OH gets stuck into. How nice that he took you out for a meal first….very wise man! πŸ˜‰ Enjoy the book; nothing better for a bit of well-earned ‘me’ time ((((( ))))).
I’m off to visit my MIL (since my OH is away). She is 94 and sharp as a tack and very interesting to talk to. She loves to hear about all the family especially good news; so I’ll fill her in on the christening and the wedding and also I just heard yesterday that my daughter in college in England is to receive a chancellor’s award for academic achievement – so great news all round. Have a great weekend everyone and remember PC all the way! BRING IT ON πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Hi Fit, it is slow today, strangest weather, hot, muggy bits if rain. I guess everyone is out and about. Bathurst is a car race, the final of the season but they are the cars you and I drive, road cars, obviously hotted up, and a normal road, not a track is closed off for it, very dangerous at the sppeds they travel, but it goes all day and takes all day to do the amount of laps needed. 1000k I think.
Well my relaxing day took in mowing ? I love my ride on, and lots of watering, very enjoyable morning. Don’t quite know where the afternoon went. Your MIL is a good age, my Dad’s sister are 89 and 95 the last of the eight of them and both very sharp, but normal short term memory loss, …..just like mine ? names etc, I’m hopeless!
Congrats with your daughter too, what an achievememt for her. I’m off for an early night, nighty all, see you tomorrow xxxxx

    Ha, thanks, Fit!

GG, I know all about Bathurst. Everything stops here too. My husband loves it but 2 crashes in 2 days, don’t know how the second one survived. I even used to live in Bathurst for a couple of years. In years gone by we had to troop down to Wollongong from Sydney just to watch the race with my husband’s family every year!
These days we don’t but everything also stops for F1 Grand Prix’s and sometimes Moto GP.

PH enjoy the Gold Coast and the good news.

Bought myself a new size 12 dress today and feel great in it. Got a Sportscraft birthday voucher and combined it with a 30% off sale so did OK! Definitely inspiring me to keep up the good work!
    Cheers all!

Thanks for explaining Bathurst, CG! We call that rallying here in Ireland and there are nearly always serious, if not fatal accidents, often amongst the spectators….not my cup of tea, I’m afraid. I have lots of aunts and uncles in their 80s and 90s on my dad’s side and there is great longevity on OH’s side too; so we reckon out girls will live to well over 100!!
UP – you’re welcome πŸ™‚ Woohoo for size 12 dress, bet you look fab!!

I am still about, but I have had to get out in the garden and get the weeds down before summer. In one week we have gone from having heaters on in the house to melting in the heat.

I am now down to 68.9kgs helped along by the change to salads during the week. (Jan 89kg Aug 80.5kg.) Its nice just to go down to the garden and pick vegetables for tea. Most of the summer vegetables are now coming up. I still have to cover tomatoes at night as we are still getting frosts. It was quite nice to have to get some new clothes during the week as my others were too big. Nice feeling.

Good morning team and wishing you all a happy relaxing day ?
GL you are doing so well with your weight loss as well as all the exercise you get in the garden. It’s a great healthy way to burn off some cals. You’ve obviouslt got the 5:2 WOL and WOE down patt. You seem to be managing so well. Are you just doing 5:2 with PC on normal days. That seems to ge the most proven to work. And new smaller clothes, what a thrill for you.
Smokey overcast day, still muggy here, storms predicted again, but don’t seem to eventuate. I AM planning a lazy(ish) day, but who knows, I take it as it comes, but very relaxed will be the go ? Enjoy the day team, be it on the couch watching cars go around in circles sounding like blow flies ready to attach, or getting out and about, the day is yours, so live it ☺️ don’t forget a bit of planning for our fast tomorrow xxxxxxx

Happy Sunday all. My day started at 7am ESDST so Bathurst can take OH’s day up. We were up with tea and poached eggs OH only as I am doing a fast … really need to kick this bloody 75kgs in the derry.I am a comfortable size 14. Have not even considered trying on the size 12 bikini I brought last summer …..That is my goal and also my 68kgs.
FIT- sorry i did not explain the race…. its international ….so assumed everyone knew of its existence.
UP- congratulations on the size 12. You will really knock them out in your new dress. I remember a pic of you looking stunning.
Have a wonderful day…..enjoying all that you have planned and prepare for your FD tomorrow……..GO GALxxxxx

    Thanks again for compliments!

GG, I forgot to tell you that I even learned to drive on Mt Panorama! My father used to take me around so that I could learn to change down gears on the hills. Sorry it isn’t Family History Wednesday!

We have a slight complication here as my children are planning a trip to Mt Tamborine for my birthday. There is a cheese factory and craft beer place next door and they have live music on Sunday arvos. My husband has decided not to rock the boat so will not complain! When he agreed, he didn’t realise it was the day of the race. He will get to see the all important start and a lot more anyway. It is an hour and 10 minute drive each way. Hopefully he won’t drive with them in spirit!
    Have a good Sunday all.
Looks like a nice day here.

Hello everyone. Thanks SJ & Cg for advice on my ups and downs. You are both right. I am certainly no longer a spring chicken. More like an old broiler! CG you are right about the weather. Years ago when I sufferd from chronic back pain I could tell days before the barometer showed that we were in for a change in the weather. I was up before sunrise today and their was a spectacular pyrotechnic show of lightening over the sea. We’ve had no rain though but some is forecast for later. I’m about to check out my rather large collection of meds and check if I have any antiinflammatories left. I did manage a short walk today though so that was good. Also managed to water my pot plants which is fun in itself with a puppy determined to bite at the water and get himself sopping wet.
Yeh I know about the Bathurst too. I’m not a fan but have a brother in law who watches every Grand Prix, car race of any description on TV. I’d sooner watch paint dry. I’m just happy that it’s cricket season again.
GG you mention that you also enjoy reading. Do you have any good books you can recommend. I enjoy good fiction plus that occasional thriller.
Enjoy the day team. Which of you coined the phrase ” eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we diet?”

G’day everyone. Had a nice day at a festival yesterday and enjoyed eating normally but not over the top. Having my second fast day tomorrow and hope it is easier than the first one. Watching some Bathurst as I have a cousin who races in the supporting races in the v8 Utes, and an uncle in the touring car masters.
